you [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] work and energy you sent your vocabulary words before we begin our lesson I first learn to see work what work what working done when a force changes an object's motion work is done when a force changes in the object's motion [Music] you do work where you move a bow across the violin string I have energy energy energy is the ability to do work all right so energy from the bowling ball causes the pins to fall over and that's looking example of energy beam kinetic energy kinetic energy is energy in the form of motion in all moving objects and kinetic energy so that moving roller coaster the car the roller coaster have kinetic energy potential energy potential energy is the energy that is stored and ready to be used all right explain that the top of it Yale has potential energy so this way young boy at the top of the year that's learned has potential energy YouTube video forces applied on an object resulting in the movement of that object [Music] work done is equal to force into distance all right so we're going to talk about work and energy I need you to open your books to page one once I get your handouts with your name date and number at the top named number alright so for what is work at the top part it says made a prediction what is the prediction what is the prediction prediction think about the scientific method then we just goes what is the prediction Chris there's like a hypothesis so it's a gift it's a gift so the question is how do you know when work is being done I need to answer that question how do you know when work is being done how do you know when work is being done I'm going to give you one minute to answer that question all right so we're going to test your prediction you're gonna decide whether each action and the chart is work you're going to ask yourself whether you got something done explain why you classify each action the way you did and you're going to record the information you're gonna answer is it work so you're gonna answer yes or no did you do work yes or no and then the next block you got it block you this foot why our lineup why or why not so you can ask yourself whether you've got something done that's not determine whether or not you can doesn't work did you get something done when you picked up the book yes I know why the lineup all right the next one think about a problem so right now everybody think about composition and we see you thinking think about a problem are you doing work yes or no write it in a blink plane why or why not alright the next one slide your chair from under your desk you can undo them and they're back [Music] all right the next one right here great thank you over there all right so you're going to press your speed less against the wall so you're gonna press your feet but against what you need to turn backwards and press your feet against the wall or your foot against the wall are you getting face the wall and put your foot put that easy way is turning backwards all right is that work so press it really hard give her something on face all right all right the bottom you have to make it work after you've done all these activities what do you think work is what does it mean to do work all right what does it mean to do work at all right Terrence are using forces and energy okay more easily I'm sorry you agree do you disagree you would like to end this accountable talk when you have to do a lot of things like what all right so if you push the wall you believe that that's work you believe that that's work can someone tell me what they think do they agree with Harvey's do they disagree what do you think [Music] okay agree with that disagree with that let me hear your thoughts tonight all right why do you disagree so think about the video when he was doing work when the young boy was one work all right so this let's redo those so we can get a little information a little bit more information on work and energy all right turn your book to page is 128 look a little more information going into it what is work so what to move fast push and pull okay all right let's see that's what get page 128 when you have a quick Adama Thank You Nicholas thank you all right so it says what it's worth essential question I'll do it you to work all along with me do you know what work is you might say that you do work every day at school and science work has a special me work is done when a force moves an object or changes in objects all right so let's look back at our explore activity is it work is what it's done when a force moves keyword moves an object or changes an object's motion so when we were pushing the ball where we working did it wall move so were we working okay let's see so when we slid the chair were we working why so I want to tell me why while we work in Jamarcus because the chair was moving all right so we pushed our foot up against the wall where are we working working all right why are we working Nicholas right you could have been working all right so you think because we pushed but the definition of work is that done when a force move an object or changes in object's motion so Nicholas when you pushed against the wall did you move to wall all right so who are you doing work Juana it didn't move nothing good all right thinking about a problem thumbs up if you think that was worth all right so much otherwise whether work I can't use even if nothing's moving all right we're just thinking nothing's moving okay got it go ahead all right nothing this pushing or what there's no force all right we're not exerting any energy and nothing is holding the wall good food therefore there was no one work work wasn't being done all right time to face 130 what is energy what is energy all right way to reform you need energy is what makes motion and I guess an object you give it that all right very good so energy looking at your anchor chart is what makes motion possible what Facebook makes most impossible all right so we're going to look at a photo and determine what is worth my hand so the photographs below show examples of work look for clues that motion is taking place you're going to look at the photo and it folds a little blurry on your worksheet top of the photo on the actors board I need you to answer the questions about the photographs I'm going to give you about three minutes and then you're going to discuss it as a group all right all right [Music] [Applause] don't want to stay counter violent is don't work nor the violet is doing work Ava all right there's motion of all they're using the force and they're causing motion so they are doing work Ava I'm here all right there's motion they're using energy but Howard I need up there doing work so it takes more than just energy how do you know that they're doing work they're changing the position of the work of the boat of the book very good so work is going on very very good Thank You Hannah they're using for school what else is needed to do dirt you cannot use importance to push this for it to be considered work smoothly right movement in ports all right very good number to describe the pork that the snowplow is using to do work with the fortune or ease a UH need a push very very good and number three Jordan how was the pores of the snow cloud different from the ports of the aisle is so the violinists are just using a pool on to the snow ecology to put with a violent violence are you doing okay alright turn your Explorer sheet over to the backs and says work is it work or not work alright Randy heyyy clearly three actions would work is done and then included these reactions where work is not being done an example it gives you for you I put the definition of work work as a force which is a push up normal which moves an object or changes and objects motion so my example number one read it for me Randy Randy's not ready mark Randy read it for me and I waited for the bus at the bus stop is that work on network class now work why wasn't it work someone tell me why doesn't work Ava come on and I know you know it why isn't that work when I just waited at the bus for the all right so there's no motion alright there's so much I'm just standing still and I'm waiting okay the second one read it for me uh who has everybody for me Jonathan Jonathan's not paying attention morning for Jonathan um go ahead pour down no read the example serious open the box we get some cereal and that work are not work debris on it why that works all right so when I open the bottle I guess it depends on what type of Syria about your open opening it's a hole when you open the box all right there's good so now we're to get three examples of not working and three examples of the working you can work together as a group and you have four minutes all right a lot of good examples of work and not work so let's talk about you give me one I've heard some good ones over here training yeah all right she brush my teeth do some once an answer to whether or not it's work or not work no answers like is it work or not [Music] brush your hand there's movement very good very very good and there's a force because you're moving you're pulling the toothbrush and you're pushing the chip brush right so that's forth and there's move an excellent way to example put equals on all right all right let's do one that's not work not work give me one of yours if that works sitting in a chair so the dogs been sitting in the chair am i working why am I not working very good all right one more give me one more week of not laying in the bed does that work on that word all right tell me why does it work for do all right there's no work and there's no force very very good all right let's do one more chairs putting on your coat somebody putting on your coat did that work or not why I'm sorry sitting in stairs motion and what motion is moving and what what one can force all right there very good okay open up your science journal okay and you can take off the D okay cars that are in your caddy all right one two three all out of meat all right you feel great art to create big questions to write questions about work and energy right one question about it and then answer it are you all have one minute in 44 seconds all right I'm going to listen to you to give you a question let's see we would like to ask the question give me one tonight all right a nice question is what can you say about work what can you say about work who would like to answer that question with one thing that you can say about work it's the only one here what's the definition of work what did you learn about work today all right forces the movement being that you are working all right work is force and movement of forth and motion all right you can other place to the dearest what is work what is work without the defendants Janelle what it works all right give me a little bit more because I'm going something this is my ability and I'm doing something [Music] okay very very good very very good all right keep your textbooks open or your journal Alden passes to the table leaders so that I can look at your questions and your answers you didn't write them let's go ahead and write quickly all right hold the question I'm going to write a question in your journal and that you're going to answer okay when you get back you'll have a question to answer so go ahead pass it to the table leaders are we in transition okay miss Dotson thank you so much for letting us videotape your lesson and just have a few questions for you the first question is how did you prepare for your lesson today all right I use the science textbook as my guide and then I utilize resources from YouTube from teacher Spade teacher Pinterest to build my worksheets but my major on my main resource was a textbook can you tell us a little bit about what happened during the lesson okay so the first part was an exploring activity and so I wanted them to try to figure out what work was by allowing them to give examples or show examples of what work was and so I want them to figure out that you know work is force in motion or force and movement and just so that they that would stick with them so when we started the other activities they would have a you know a foundation as to what work really was okay and for your students that are proficient how do you push students past proficient during small group instruction my proficient students I normally put them in a group and then we try to we'll do other activities writing activities or well do maybe I may have them do a project or we may do more hands-on activities related to you know force emotion or energy emotion and what about your struggling students how do you support struggling students all right so I'd Strickland students we will work in small groups because it's easier when you pull them in a smaller group thing and we would just go over the concepts we'll probably I'll probably use task cards that I get from teachers pay teacher's or will read a story about force emotional working energy just to bring it down a little bit tie down a little bit so that they can grasp the concept that I'm trying to convey to them [Music]
