Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
Now that /u/Museamaniac has posted his 31 days of blown & controversial calls, I can add one that I think is really up there in terms of how bad it was.
How many things can you find that went wrong here?
I've heard it described (paraphrasing) "Carbo missed the plate, Hendricks missed the tag, and Burkhart missed the call."
Ellie did tag him with the glove but the ball was in his bare hand!
He did not get tagged but it looks like he did not touch the plate tbh
Can I point out that was poor base running (at least for the initial movement towards home)? He was standing flat footed at 3rd base when contact was made. As a runner, you should be in an athletic position with momentum bringing you towards home as the pitch is crossing the plate. If itβs a contact play (go on contact, on the ground) you have a moving start. However, it will also allow you to easily stop and make it back to the bag on a line drive or fly ball.
Surely this is the memorable World Series moment of Carboβs career?
Iβve never seen an ump positioned there to make a call at home plate.
