in spite of all that you have been through this week i'm telling you there will be glory after this i want to pause and publicly appreciate our praise team and our musicians who have ushered us in to a moment of worship just for us to be able to bask in his glory we've been with you now for five weeks using this medium and i'm appreciative for those who work in our media department and those who volunteer tirelessly to make sure that we're able to usher in through a spirit of excellence even by way of technology i started last sunday a series and this is the third installment if you missed the first two i need you to go back and hear those it's all building us to a rising crescendo that we're going to reach over the next couple of weeks i want you to find your way to the second book of the bible the book of exodus chapter one i'll be there for the next two weeks and i need you there studying it considering it marinating in it i'm telling you god has opened up so many treasure troves of revelation that i believe that we'll be feasting off of it for many months and moons to come exodus chapter one and today i want us to look at verses 15 and 16. exodus 1 verses 15 and 16. the book of exodus means to come out but today i need you to stay in in spite of what you've been hearing on the news stay in and read exodus chapter 1 verse 15 and 16. the king of egypt said to the hebrew midwives whose names were shafirah and poor when you are helping the hebrew women during childbirth on the delivery stool if you see a boy kill him but if you see a girl let her live i want to continue our series a midwife crisis changing the game midwife crisis changing the game there's an african proverb that says simply it's not what you are called it's what you answer to it's not what you're called it's what you answer to a consortium of psychologists from my alma mater duke university i did a study for a span of seven years and in it they were trying to track down why it is that we call people the wrong name who we know clinically it's called misnaming you know the person but you are ascribing a different identity more often than not this whole problem of misnaming happens from parents mothers fathers who call the son the daughter's name or daughter of the son's name they're confusing them by giving them orders and directions and instructions and they all live in the same house i have identical twins who are turning 14 this week and oftentimes they try to cross me up answering each other's phone and ask which twin am i i said i don't know both of y'all look the exact same to me myself being afflicted with misnaming of these psychologists from duke university says it doesn't matter how old you are it is not traced back to uh alzheimer's or dementia you could be 35 you can be 57 you can be 79 and still find yourself afflicted with misnaming but to give me some decibel of peace the psychologists argue that when you are calling the wrong name watch what you call them some identical twins are named angel and adore and so sometimes i call them adore and angel or sometimes i call them grace calling them the wrong name but the psychologist said notice that you don't call your children even in misnaming them you don't call them who you work with so i've never called the angel crevance never called the door colleagues have never called grace pastor kerry because even in my mind mapping how it is that i love them i love them differently when it is that god calls our name he never calls us by something that is outside of the bounds of his grace we're more than a conqueror we're the head we're not the tail beneath think about the splendor the majesty of how many names god has so that we never get confused he's el shaddai he's el elyon he's jehovah tiscanu he's jehovah jireh if you talk to your grandmother he's a wheel in the middle of a wheel he's a doctor in the sick room he's a friend when you don't have any names are so important and if you don't think so you ought to journey through the book of judges and when you journey through the book of judges you're coming to a truck stop in chapter six chapter 6 you'll know that the midianites are coming after the children of israel and when they're coming after the children of israel where we find somewhere hovering in verse number 11 a young man by the name of gideon and he's hiding in a wine press threshing wheat he's doing the right job in the wrong place at an inopportune time he's supposed to be fighting and he's hiding and the angel that has been dispatched to come see about him makes this declaration watch what the angel calls him mighty man of valor meaning a man of carriage a man of prowess a man of strength and yet gideon is caught hiding it would appear that the angel is guilty of misnaming him calling him the wrong thing but the angel understood even with the specialists don't understand at duke university that sometimes when god calls your name it is not who you are it's what you're getting ready to become the gideon wasn't yet but he was about to operate an office and a position that he didn't even know that he was equipped to occupy god's getting ready to change the game and when he changes the game i want you to know you won't even have to go down to the department of social security to change your name legally because he's changing your identity spiritually gideon would emerge in many chapters later to prove that the angel was not wrong he was a man of valor a man of conviction and a man of honor you got to be careful what you name your children it's a terrible thing to call your child mercedes and they're not going anywhere to call them prosperity and they're not even making an investment in their destiny if you don't think naming is important look at the middle eastern name that tracks back to the seventh century that middle eastern name that i want to offer you today it's a name called kemp kemp is translated in the 7th century to mean champion of wrestling in order for you to be a champion of wrestling you got to know how to tie people down hold them down so that they cannot emerge hold them down so that they do not become victorious that's what the word kemp means i'm preaching you today from atlanta georgia where my governor's name is governor kemp who has now become a champion at holding oppressed people down holding him down because this very weekend he's opened up beauty parlors tattoo parlors massage parlors all for people to be held down by covet 19 with the expectation that they'll never get back up again governor kemp is a champion against the oppressed and i can't blame him i was mad for a couple of days until i realized he was living up to his name when we go into our text in exodus chapter one exodus chapter one tells us about another governor who's a lot like my governor in exodus chapter one he sees that the minority population is growing and increasing and flourishing and he says what can i do to stop him this kind of conservative governor that we find in exodus chapter one is the very first one in history to legalize abortion he's an evangelical but he's against minority life and so he says and puts out an edict all over georgia i'm not georgia i'm sorry he all over exodus chapter one that when you see minority children i want you to kill the boys but let the girls live and he made up in his mind according to historians that there are 500 midwives to handle six million israelites 500 midwives and they only can hire two and the governor says i know which two i want to hire i want to hire number one a midwife by the name of shafira i told you tuesday night in the middle of our bible study class that her name translates to mean beautiful but there's a second midwife and that second midwife's name is poor and her name translates to mean mother now this is a contradiction it's a conflict this the tension of the text simply because a midwife is supposed to be somebody who is up in years but according to theologians historians anthropologists and biblicists pua is a young girl so she's not qualified she's too young but she gets the job maybe you missed it i i realized maybe i'm talking a little bit too fast there are 500 midwives and the one who isn't qualified gets the job i'm telling you you getting ready to change the game once this pandemic lifts that they're gonna be people who have more education we have more experience who have more connections have more time in but they don't have more favor god is getting ready to single-handedly pick you out of a group because you are not larry graham you're not one in a million you're one out of 500. only one out of 500 could handle the responsibility you're getting ready to take only one out of 500 could be able to manage the level of anointing that you carry i'm telling you only one out of 500 are equipped for the task that god is getting ready to give you and they gave a poor this young lady who's just out of being a candy striper hadn't even taken her lpn exam they make her the midwife when on paper she's not even qualified you ought to thank god for what god is getting ready to do for you because you don't have it on paper but you have it in the spirit realm maybe you missed it you don't have it in your bank account you don't have it in your credit report you don't have it in your pedigree and there are no initials behind your name but when god qualifies you you'll never have to second guess why it is that you are where it is that you are and they told these two midwives pua and shafirah the governor did said when it is that you are sitting on the birthing stool follow my direction and if there's a boy i need you to kill him if it's a girl i want you to let him live and these two unsung heroes of the civil rights movement are really the architects of civil disobedience the governor told them what to do but they refused to do it it is my hope it is my prayer that those of you who can hear my voice this sunday morning are in fact following in the shadow and the footsteps of these two nondescript midwives yeah i heard what the governor said but i still ain't doing it ain't nowhere in the world i'm gonna put my family in jeopardy i'm gonna put my health in jeopardy i'm gonna put my children in jeopardy trying to get a haircut when kovid could make me lose my head so they said i know what the governor said but i'm gonna go in the opposite direction that is the call for you that in this hour that you've got to find the moral fortitude to go against the rest of the grain of culture in society same former president of morehouse college dr benjamin mays here's what he said one of my favorite quotes he said i'd rather go to hell by myself than go to heaven following a crowd sometimes your greatness is being different sometimes your significance is understanding i can't do what other people are doing why because i'm wonderfully and i'm fearfully made i'm an undercover agent i'm in the world but i am not of it so they decided that they were not going to listen or follow what it is that the governor argued for them to do and they decided to go in a different direction amazingly alarmingly pua is known as mother but she doesn't have any children she has no idea that god is getting ready to change the game of her life that everything is getting ready to shift simply because hear this she didn't listen to the governor i want you to know that what it is that you do over the next four to six weeks will dictate what history will record you as i would hate that i would have the responsibility to call you deceased to call you the late to call you the former i want to be able to call you one of god's chosen elect who survived the pandemic they called her mother hear this when she had no children they called her mother and she did not even have a husband yet they called her mother when all people in the community thought she was barren but by the time you get to verse 21 you'll see that god gave her the desires of our heart because jesus knows our prayers before we ever speak them i'm so excited that people are going to have to backpedal what they used to call you and they're going to have to acknowledge that the call on your life is greater than the stuff that's on your resume i'm telling you god's about to change your name and when he changes your name he's going to change the game and change the destiny i stand before you today with great nerve great nerve to be able to call myself dr jamal harrison bryant what nerve of me to call myself that after i failed the 11th grade got kicked out of high school had to go get a ged got a ged and then went to morehouse college here in atlanta georgia went to duke university that i've been talking about today went across the pond and got a doctorate of ministry degree from oxford university i'm dr bryant and dear friends last year i had to go back to the school i got kicked out of where they used to call me dropout they now have to call me doctor when god changes your name he changes the game in case you do not know jesus of nazareth for 33 years was just known as jesus mary's little baby boy joseph's plus one son the friends of three disciples the leader of millions i want you to know he did not become christ until he got off the cross something is added to your name only after you've endured something that was supposed to kill you i can't wait to see what they're gonna call you when you come out of this i want you to know i already got the answer they're gonna call you more than a conqueror a royal priesthood a chosen generation that the soundtrack of your life for the rest of 2020 will literally be millions didn't make it but i'm one of the ones that did pooh was called into the oval office and was asked why in the world did you let the boy children live she said it's not my fault the women who are israelites are different than the women who come from here we put them on stools and the stool that i'm sitting on this morning is a lot different than the stools that those expected mothers had to sit on the stools that those expected mothers had to sit on it didn't have a swivel did not have four prongs at the end didn't have a lever cushion stool is really just a glorified fanciful word the stool here this was just two stones there were two stones that were sitting on top of each other one for either side of the derriere and they had to in fact sit on that which was uncomfortable there was no anesthesia there was nothing that could inoculate the pain but they had to sit propped up here it is knowing that gravity would pull the baby out of them did you hear what i just said they're sitting in something uncomfortable and there was a pull to get out of them what they were carrying i don't know whether you realize it or not but those of you who find yourself in the discomfort of furlough the uneasement of being unemployed the disenfranchisement of being stuck in a house with people you can't stand it ain't nothing but a stool god had to make you uncomfortable enough just so that you could feel the pull of what it is that he impregnated you with do you know what you're carrying do you know the weight the significance the size of what it is that you're carrying what you're carrying is so great that god will not allow you to be comfortable in the delivery he needs you to experience every ounce of the pain so that you understand this pain is for my pleasure this pain is to redirect history this pain so that your bloodline will forever be disrupted and poor had to in fact say to the governor i know what it is that you said but i tried to get to him but by the time i got to him it was already delivered that's what it is that you're going to say to the enemy of your greatness i know you didn't want to see me thrive i know you expected me to wave the white flag and to give up and i know you wanted me to surrender and to bow down i'm sorry but by the time you tried to make me depressed before you tried to make me commit suicide before you tried to make me relapse into codependency i was already delivered i was already delivered because what god has done in me he helped me get delivered i'm getting upset church people he helped me get delivered and i couldn't get to an altar he helped me get delivered and nobody laid hands on me he helped me get delivered and there was no vial of oil he just changed the game he's helping me get delivered through a computer through a laptop through an ipad through a telephone the game just changed i'm telling you so many of you got wedded to church that you got divorced from god god said i'm shifting everything that you know because you don't even realize that before the foundations of the earth here it is while you were in your mother's womb i already knew you i'm excited because you don't even understand that you're a history maker and you are a game changer you get ready to do it in an unconventional way you're getting ready to find your sweet spot i'm telling you you can change the game you can buy houses with bad credit you get ready to get jobs with no degree you're getting ready to leave a lineage with no example you get ready to be set free in your living room the game has just changed and guess what it starts right now basketball has been suspended football is not being played soccer is no longer on the court so the game just changed the enemy thought he could play with you but he didn't know your name you've been redeemed you've been bought with a price and you've been transformed welcome not to a new year but welcome to a new you because you are what god designed you to be you are it before you even walk in it you already have what it takes the raw materials the essence the support the supply and the assignment i'm telling you i'm excited because i already see it tell the referee to go to the sideline don't even play the highlight tapes the game has just changed i need you to believe it because i already see it i'm excited i can't keep it to myself i had to pause and not just tell you i had to tell your children tell your neighbor tell your co-worker tell your friends that the angels in heaven are not going to call you by the wrong name you have been misnamed for the wrong last time you will not be caught broke you will not be called lonely you will not be called depressed you will not be called anxious you will not be called unwanted or unloved why because the game has just changed i'm having a midwife crisis because i got too many people who don't know their name it's not what you've been called it's what you answer to i want you to be called saved i want you to be called a member of the body of christ called church i want you to be called under the covenant of new birth missionary baptist here's what i want you to do i want you to become a part of my family how do you become a part of our family of faith and you can do it right now in this moment don't hesitate don't deliberate don't wait another moment the angels in heaven are calling your name they're calling your name to get saved calling your name to make some life decisions calling your name to make the best choice you have made in a long time i want you to give god your heart give him your mind give him your spirit if you were dependent on the governor you'd be messed right now but i depend on a higher authority the king of kings and the lord of lords i got good news the government is on his shoulders by his stripes we're all going to be healed listen georgia is now number 55 in depths 12 in those that have been tested but we're getting ready to be number one in the world here it is for soul winning number one in the world that's what i'm claiming by faith number one in the world for soul winning i want you to partner with me i want you to invest in this
