Midnight Gyoza Street Food | Kochi Dumpling Stands

this is a crunchy gyoza from kochi at the yatai not too far away from the center and the castle and i'm gonna have the last one together before we do a walk around around the city how you doing wow that was so good this is a unique um gyoza stand that is open until three or four in the morning and i wanted to have a midnight snack um they said i could film just for like a minute so i only have i can only have the last bite but um because of the protocol i shouldn't be talking uh with with people around there but it's a really interesting it's a really interesting um place and i i'm in kochi just for just for one more day let me see if i can get a good angle on here i have a a wide lens that kind of uh brings you a bigger angle in the front here it's kind of cool right it's a parking garage that has been turned into a gyoza stand oh man and you know what was really good about these gyoza they're crunchy they kind of grill it and make it crunchy on the outside look at the steam rising from these yatai it was so good yeah all right let's go walk about guys we're gonna i'm gonna show you i'm gonna show you kochi at night now this is a prefectural prefectural capital of kochi prefecture this is city let's get my mask on here um this is actually the entertainment district of okochi however even at night on a weekday during a pandemic there are still people around koji prefecture doesn't have as bad of a situation as tokyo in the other places but it is still really important to to take precautions and we were i was doing my best of social distance in there but i know it's really hard at places like yatai but they are running in business at least until tonight anyways because i know a lot of the travel restrictions have changed starting tomorrow typically on the weekends especially this street will be filled with yatai serving gyoza they also had ramen and other things there so let's go on a walkabout it's getting closer to midnight it's about 11 10 p.m in kochi not a lot of people here hey daniel penick i love these night vibes so do i look at it just in the middle here you have all these bicycles and rubbish and i'm i'm gonna try to avoid where all the hostess clubs are because i don't want to inadvertently film somebody um that i shouldn't be privacy laws are quite strict in japan so i do it with with uh with that in mind that we don't want to record anybody that is not trying to be in this because people have the right to do stuff that they shouldn't be doing that looks like a sushi shop over there that's an interesting shop let's get some distance look at this looks like a old building and i guess in the summer they'll open the windows up and you can sit out there on the steps and just have a sake or something oh check out this yatai look at this shack here you don't see these in tokyo really because it's winter they have they've covered it up so it can stay warm inside there but there's about four or five people in there you can see yamachan it's pretty cool we have some kata okay up ahead i don't think we're gonna hear anybody singing but you never know as we walk by the front door now this is this street is very very famous because it's part of the sunday market um it's like tuesday really it's kind of sun monday night tuesday so this market was here about 36 hours ago it's quite famous and this whole market is lined with mostly elderly people that have been selling uh goods for for decades some of them are new there's a younger generation that's coming well i see christmas lights i see christmas lights up ahead are we gonna have to go check that out there's a lawsons lawsons is big in shikoku hey this is my friend tasty chronicles hey sonny hey john stay safe here's some uh some money towards more face masks thank you staying safe now you can't see it i want you to close your eyes and use your imagination but above that tree you would see coach castle all right a uh 16 17th century castle above that tree but you you can't see because it's you know past near midnight and they turn the lights off check it out there's a yatai over there i love the vibe of kochi you may uh looks like you could probably eat some of that food right there on the outside james boardman's here did you you did the sauna to river now it's time to do the inside soup ice cream soup ice cream soup ice cream that's a good idea i have to be honest with you i didn't want to eat i ate the gyoza that was that i purchased because i was curious what they would taste like but i i want to be honest with you i'm going to post on instagram after this i had one kilogram of food for a dinner a one kilogram chicken namban at a at a famous restaurant in kochi and i can hardly move my stomach luckily my legs are the one that does all the moving not my stomach but my stomach is so full up right now oh okay this is a famous chain here this is a kushikatsu chain i believe yeah from osaka it's a lot of fried stuff it's pretty reasonably priced now what is akochi kochi is the name of a city in shikoku that is pretty awesome wow i got christmas what's the christmas spectacular over here well and they got frying food up there that's what that sound is wow every time i come to kochi i am just i eat so much and i drink so much and i have so much fun this is the first time i've been wandering the streets um at midnight let's go check out this christmas display this is really nice because of the pandemic and and everything in tokyo is really closed uh down more than last year you really don't i really don't feel that vibe but even here you know there's this beautiful christmas display on a shoten guy this is a shoten guy at midnight i bet you in an hour or two this could be like i could see a yura or some sort of ghost down there just standing there staring at me and then in like one second just and then standing right there in front of me before it gouges my eyes out with its evil porcelain tongue basically i'm gonna try to get home real quick because i don't want that to happen especially at a beautiful spot like this christmas tree i'm dreaming of us champagne white and sort of slightly blue christmas tree copyright music okay you can name that tune in 12 notes right i guess this is about it let's see how deep christmas goes in coach i think i think this is about it this is as deep as christmas goes oh there's the police the koban it's the officers of the law i feel safe from nothing it's really no real threat to my well-being at this time of night in japan except for the cold any possible crows you digging this sunny it's nice it is about it's zero degrees right now um in tokyo i think it's a little bit colder we have a cold spell right now and it's uh extremely cold in the city uh and i'm heading back to tokyo tomorrow at 6pm after i do some couple of shoots for only in japan um i i've been filming one episode for for two months now and i'm gonna be finishing it up today tomorrow so i'm excited about that wow that's pretty extremely cold shane shane writes in in parentheses somebody from up there in north canada this is cold for us shane be aware that most people watching are from like southern california so this is extremely cold for them too um if you were to go down this way uh do you know do you remember that place i called that was called um there's nobody around there's a place called hiromi uh and this is a place where you could drink um and eat in this pit that was really fun i believe it's closed down because of the pandemic the yatai is open because it's mostly outside so it's kind of a good thing but um even then i i was trying to stay away from people but hiromi hiroba was almost all inside and i believe it's closed down but i don't know like in a couple of months when things normalize that is one of the best uh places to just drink and meet locals and talk to people in japan everybody's close to everybody it feels like the october festival in munich 20 years ago when locals actually went to the thing and then you would brush side by side with people and talk to talk to people that was it was a great experience that's what that is here in kochi that's what i love about hiromi market um it's really really cool and it's that way about uh about 200 meters i think down the jude avenue just freaking cold right now shane i don't know how you do it man because it's my fingers are broken all right let's go this way i hear music that can't be a yoda you avoid people except for one person you take ghosts pick one person they don't pick a tokyo anymore but it's good to see people trying to trying to still make a living you know in this in this um economy is really really hard wow i can smell that sue the alleys of kochi especially off of the shotengai have so much personality i am feeling just a little bit of christmas christmas is about giving i you know i felt really good about my little teeny gift to a bunch of bros that i give grilled with a grass and they they um smoke it and and char it with uh it's really really good but it's closed someone's doing karaoke [Music] let's go listen they're pretty good i think is that kind of creepy you just kind of creepy here it's creepy silent this is where i'm isolated now and this is where you would see a yura or some kind of ghost standing there in the distance like right there this is the this is the kind of situation where like if you're in the bronx or something in new york there's some dude like escape from new york where snake pliskin is walking around and there's a bunch of dudes that come out it's the kind of situation i'm not ghost hunting but i have an imagination that the ghosts are hunting me i'm not hunting them who hunts ghosts i'm just saying this guy is dark scary it's dudes dude what no way flashing red light totally i could see a ghost underneath there this is this is kind of creepy who would walk down this street at night why don't they have lights so that's just creepy hey here to the ron is here thanks man manhole um cochi uh is is famous for the whales that are offshore whales will will um go by here especially in the winter time you could see them happy whales have cats so this bridge um actually after i was here last year or a year ago or two years ago i forget we have a discord on our discord server we have um somebody put this bridge in there as an emoji i was i'm not sure who did it maybe nosh did it but i'm back at this bridge and this bridge is uh the hairpin bridge it's a really famous story um i guess you can look it up it involves a hairpin and a romantic story and this is the a bridge or recon creek recreation of that bridge i'll see if i can find it in fact i have a light here i can turn on this light and draw attention to me so all of the ghosts know exactly where i am but ghosts i don't think i don't think ghosts i think ghosts run away from lights right they don't go towards the light those are that's moths i'm just gonna attract mothra um and this is the um kanzashi which is this amazing uh snack uh cake that you get from kochi prefecture like a gift cake so it's pretty cool here look at that i love this city it's got so much personality to it doesn't it ah bright light and over there it's not gonna play now but if you look at another live stream i did walk in through here during the day it's odd so many parallels with japan and star wars if i was you know what if i was working at this job i would have the the blue or green light stick i want to be part of the rebel force which i guess in construction terms would mean go instead of stop so i'm not sure how powerful the blue or the green light stick would be or lightsaber i should say all right let's make our ways this way it's a total insanity sorry it's just because i just survived this okay look at this street the shelting guy why would they do this this is the empire this is where if if you walk underneath that light you man will cover but those are some of the blocks and you see fish which is probably bonito fish or katsuwa right and that's part part of the culture too and the smoke could be the tataki and the water so that's a pretty cool manhole cover i like that it's a fish dance yeah it's fish dance so we're only 350 likes from from from getting a dessert so i'm gonna walk around the corner here and do a little this is the direction to the station by the way this direction to the station um in japan i'm always looking down because you never first of all you don't want to step in anything and second of all this man the manhole covers are amazing in japan and in in in these metal metal plates on the ground you can see the culture of the city which is to me pretty amazing the station is closed see straight ahead is the station and that is closed because the last train has gone in fact there is in the middle of the street coach ken still has uh trolleys or streetcars that go back you can see the tracks in the street there do you see that and these streetcars start to close down around 10 pm which is a little early but it's dark look at the gas station is shut down well that can't be good the number of likes we have triple six it's kind of creepy anything can happen in the central coach at midnight we started with some gyoza that was really good and now we're finishing maybe with a dessert but i'll take you in there and we can uh check out to see what we can get for we're just 300 likes short of a of a full house the hamamatsu building oh these are mostly like hostess clubs like snack bars anybody's practice japanese most of this is katakana that's creepiest was that a human was creepy he's got a hoodie on something wrong with it but in japan just weird oh that's i hate those robots they're kind of going out of business the peppers i'm seeing them less and less they've been out for like six years you think they would change the design don't the streets of japanese alleys and streets have so much character the way that they put tomate on the street there the bicycles this the do not enter signs and the beautiful pictures of food in fact if you want to see a ridiculous actually went into a truck sauna only in coach this dude he took a k truck which is a really small truck and put a sauna on the back of it and he backed it up to the river and he said john go in there street corner um this is i guess people like to hang out at the corner here but these palm trees represent the sunday market which i did an episode on before it's really cool if you're ever in kochi or in chicoku on a sunday make sure you get your saturday night sunday morning early come here it's amazing it's a 300-year market that they put on right on the street just avoiding that drunk dude didn't she my grandma was from england as canai says england well let me get some alcohol spray my grandma made all sorts of delicious english food including giblet giblet gravy which was amazing can i give me this miniature alcohol spray bottle okay okay good sanitized oh look at this so this looked really good i've never had bread pudding in japan it was about three dollars for that it must be good it's a pudding good yeah that's good did you see that mascot with the fish head i've never seen that mascot before and it wasn't it was a fish head like already been cut severed from the body and then it was put on a human body that's what made it weird it's a fish head severed from its body and and displaced and put on a fish body a human body that's messed up that's just utterly messed up what's not messed up is this and we didn't get close to a thousand likes but it doesn't really matter we're ending the night um with something sweet because that's what you do on monday nights it's actually technically tuesday now so from england it doesn't mean i didn't say i'm gonna eat the whole thing uh soy soy seller rush jave joe vlogger i don't i didn't say i was gonna eat the whole thing i might save it for tomorrow which is today this looks pretty good not really good check it out there's custard good cake good some kind of cookie like pudding bread wood whipped cream good what's not to like about this oh the 2000 calories oh good that was good so i'm saving half i'm saving half for kanai my wife i'm gonna put this in my bag and take it for her and it'll be back in here tomorrow and she's gonna not gonna want it she said just buy me a new one i'll tell her it's a thought that counts 2 000 calories it's not too it's not really 2 000 calories hold on now how many hold on you people it's 298 calories okay so i ate 150 calories right now all right right before bed too now i feel bad so people are saying to me get a beer you know how many calories is in a beer all right
