welcome to progressions playground it's day three of X Games Aspen twin city for the cheap slopestyle course it's the men snowboard slopestyle final Brandon Graham alongside Canadian heartthrob Craig McMorris and the third member of our field Kroy Corbin Harris excuse me out on the course today Craig this is one of our favorites because we see innovation we see creativity we see tricks we've never seen before year after year preach Brando preach I look forward to this day every single year it's your Christmas this is my Christmas by New Year's and you know what it's my Thanksgiving too because I got a thanks to these riders for going for it in day and day out on this beautiful slopes of course yeah we've got a heavy roster headlined by some big names including those two right there are defending gold medalists on the right 18-year old Marcus Cleveland and your little brother Mark McMorris trying to regain the top spot this is of an event he's won bow so many times now the interesting thing here is the podium from last year did not have to compete in the slopestyle qualifier so these two we have not seen what they could throw down on the slopes of course yet very good point who will be joining those two we see now in our eight-man final of course Tyler Nicholson was our silver medalist last year he also pre qualifies how about red Girard first top ranked qualifier from a couple of days ago red Girard is like a fine wine as he gets older he just gets better and better I'm gonna start calling him Rouge that's good to know it's not even enough to drink and of course you dono in search of his very first slopestyle that hard to believe he's been so good at biggera never met the sister got all the tricks passed best result for you kiddo toe was outside of the top ten that's silly so he's already ahead today because only eight guys in the field his finish today will be his best slopes on result which is just mind-blowing because he's got triples two different ways he's got a backside 1980 quadruple cork I don't think we're gonna see that today but he is capable look at this crowd invading buttermilk mount and it's a fan favorite this coffee year-after-year a look at our format for today we've got eight riders are getting three runs each single best score counts overall impression now what that means is the judges want to see you ride this course uniquely with extremely difficult or technical tricks and while you do all that they want to see you perform it or execute it perfectly and what of course this is Craig a little bit of a departure from what we've seen I love this course I had the pleasure of riding practice in the rail section up top forces these riders to slow down gives them so many options and the ability to get extremely technical you'll see a lot of different line choices this first rider to drop in twenty-one-year-old out of Tokyo Japan making his seventh X Games appearance Yukiko doto regular footed rider dropping in with that left foot forward switching up here going to the half on that first down rail you can coming in hot with a podium finish last night big air so he's got a lot of momentum but he needs to bring it to that slope horse needs a full pool especially if that first router you want to set that benchmark score if you will going it snap 1080 on that she takes off switched land switch three formations that goes absolutely out of the ballpark trying to go right over that fence switch backside triple sixteen on that middle jump if he would have landed that it's crazy to think at 21 years old making a seven thick sub-games appearance I still feel like when you watch Yuki he's so good but there's still some sort of untapped potential with him that we're yet to see I couldn't say it better it's consistency when it comes to you we've seen him blow mines do stuff we've never seen before and then we'll see him come out and not make a final or outside of the top ten so if Yuki is just coming down three runs in the slopestyle final run one first rider throw that one away and of course he's been here before twenty-six point six six go talk to me that first one to drop in Saturday funds so here's Kyle back making his fourth scheme he looked really good it looks good the face of this board is also yellow we cannot say for sure but we assume that his favorite cool clothes on would be yellow cow back was riders s gonna take advantage of these top sections this tactical rail line 180 in a backside switchbacks at 60 puts it down perfectly this disregard may be one speed check that is how Mac did that on that double Michael Chuck go in front one switch tail press switch backside 360 out but this is where he went down Brando double Michael Chuck made famous by Canadian Mike Michael chocolate and what happened with Kyle there yet way too much air so we start doing frontside rotation you want to laugh with that right foot board and to take off with her right foot board again each of these guys getting three cracks out on this course Chris morning 18 years old making his X Games debut has made a lot of noise this winter in other contests he came correct and qualifiers this guy did not just come here to get to the finals he expects to get on the code he's got the tricks can he cleaned it up on the rails Wow have one a backside 360 out 50/50 frontside 360 I'm grabbing a little bit of melon at that front hand on the hillside edge the backside to set Lee so far so good for Chris pouring out of Silverthorne Colorado [Applause] switch I really appreciate the style trying to bus it around 60 or 1440 they have to really get going and Chris Corning falling on that second job there now there was some speed concerns on this course yesterday when the ladies hit it in fact a couple dropped because they weren't sure about that seeing no after-effects here today the men are normally a little bit bigger than the women so if you have more weight on the snowboard you can carry a lot more speed the other thing that was affecting the women was that fresh snow that was worked into the course and there was definitely some itches oh yeah Ralph all overnight for sure here in Aspen and it was not snowing last night so that fresh snow was worked in and the course is running extremely fast a 31 for Chris Corning and he's temporarily putting him into first place now in his third X Games appearance out of British Columbia to one point rolled Darcy sharp Darcy sharp pulled out of the big air event last night due to ankle issues he has been battling six now and he knows that he has a much better attempt or better shot and this is the reason why he is best rail riders in this field Dali fretboard same way out that was real pretty the nuances of the knowledge and take off on that front foot was Tony Hawk pro skater s that was that really was and we'll tab over to on that whole monster on the camera switch backside 1260 from Darcy sharp what a run so far for the 21 year old frontside off the closed Rabbitohs and 80 he's our brand oh the money booter one two three that was a backpack pistol 1440 the Canadian onslaught continues you just have to get that in there somebody's gotta say it Darcy sharp putting down the best run of the day take another look onto this sea rail every part of that rail run was so unique so different then going off the toes spinning front side grabbing the nose all the way down backside triple I think this is a extremely good run for those judges are gonna love how tech he got the rails on top but we have to remember the names at the bottom of this lineup eighty-seven point six six what a score for Darcy as he takes over the top spot when we return our defending gold medalist Marcus Cleveland hits the course we're in the middle of run number one here in the men's snowboard slopestyle final but Craig walk us through this course feature one I love this top feature in force the riders get extremely technical and this second feature is right up against it so you don't have very much time in between the first rail section and the second rail section so that whole thing is kind of meshed together big rail garden with it if you will pardon me in that of the stirrers third rail section this is where the riders gain speed see a lot of gap two's on that down flat down or the rainbow rail that puts them in the position for this first tough free jump so this first of three jumps is a little bit smaller so you'll see guys doing 12 sixties there really have to get on the gas but that'll bring it around this second of three jumps has two quarter pipes on each side as well so the riders have of hitting the quarter pipes or going straight over and then that money boot a red Dan random 70 feet look at that for sheeps and insane crowd out here on hand at Buttermilk Mountain hey let's turn down to Corbin Harris who's with some x-games royalty on the summer side Corbett who you with that's exactly what I was gonna say he's only young but he's x-games royalty right now he's got three gold medals one vert two big air Elliott Sloane thanks for coming down here who is your pick today I'd have to say Carl Mack that's my dude right there why do you love you so much I don't know we've just been riding together like the past year or two and uh yeah he shreds alright thanks for coming snowboard slopestyle final we drop now our top ranked qualifier from just a couple of days ago red Gerrard oh yeah hi Brad red is a beauty that's the only way you can describe talented kids on a snowboard the nicest kids so well sick a snowboarder snowboarder just such style such lacks personality he's everything that's right about this board right now rides left foot forward regular if you will so far on this rail section is my favorite trick switch back to pull back that is so hard to stop your rotation then go board slide under flip on that a frame rail read Girard great top section switch backside 1260 landing perfect and here's where he sets itself apart boosting on this quarter pipe frontside 1080 double all the way down brando field you've been put on notice red Gerrard riding with such confidence such ease as we take one more look now red Gerrard has to beat Darcy sharps eighty-seven point six six if he wants that number first that's where I think he out star ste right there the quarter pipe feature is rewarded so heavily it's so different and red Gerrard throwing a double on that that is very 2.66 putting him into second place two more attempts here well there we'll see Mark McMorris who is a true snowboarder riding all aspects of the sport and joined the competitive scene let's now take a look at the Netflix altered carbon on the move with Marcus [Music] [Applause] I think he feels he's got some unfinished business he's a very competitive person he's so hungry there's only one thing that matters and that's winning like I see that I see that that's where his motivation is and he's using that to his advantage to us winning is a good feeling being the best feels good there's no doubt about that and I mean mark is a good rail rider he's a great jumper he rides back country you know he gets himself immersed in the in the powder and building jumps out there and he's a true snowboarder there's huge contests and there's endorsement deals and and everything that goes along with that you know and media coverage and stuff but that's just one part of snowboarding you going out there to have kick-ass time you know you can't forget that you know it's all about the fun with Mark so I think his passion for snowboarding he loves it like actually really loves it and it's it's really inspiring it makes me feel like there's there's no other way for him it runs in his blood [Music] there's no doubt about it no bigger name in snowboarding right now then Mark McMorris making his 10th x-games of parents owner of 14 medals he's won this event four times before not taste the Regina Rough Rider can't do so much watch this gap front - that's a big down slide down round by the way you looked great in that feature thank you so much Mark McMorris is riding with a chip on her shoulder [Music] he's the most competitive [Music] he wants to win and last night that fourth place position in a way him finishing off the podium is just so bizarre wanted a frontside triple 1440 on the middle jump Marc's got his eyes set on one thing and that's a gold medal if Marc puts this front triple down back that up with a backside 16 on that money booter almost perfect that jump that trick off the middle jump so gnarly cray if you would have put that down just a bit too much weight on that back foot but that trick is so difficult that frontside triple cork 1440 more in the camo kit this wintry lope I'm glad the camera was able to catch up yeah that we were worried about that too here's our defending silver medalist making his fifth X Games appearance we saw him in big air last night 22 years old at North Bay Ontario Tyler Nicholson [Applause] spring front for trying to gap out to the switch to 70 pull it back kind of comes off a little bit early but that front side to makes no mistake and our ladies go ahead no please you I wasn't going to say the Canadian Air Force seven straight gold in a row that's what I was gonna say cray upset by Marcus swedeland who won it last year but somebody who could jump into that full bail position it's Tyler Nicholson in this field there's no room for error there's no room for the baby that's what's so scary about the Canadian national team we know the big dogs right Mark McMorris max Perot who did not qualify for this sebastian to talk as well and then oh by the way Tyler Nicholson comes in last year says kid on the block I want a silver medal we have 1440 on that right there and this frontside 360 he's kind of got to be frustrated because he knows at the top he had a couple bobbles has to throw this run away but I would Mickelson more than capable 1440 is too different direction a forty six point six six for Nicholson good enough for the bronze medal position but were early well there we see Norwegian Marcus Cleveland he finds his home ski hill to be the perfect training spot let's take a look now at the real cost keys to success with Marcus Cleveland my name is Marcus Cleveland I'm from doom boost Norway it's a pretty small town but it's it's awesome there there's not really much people and whenever I go to the resort up here like 200 meters away I can pretty much do whatever I want start to lift whenever I want and yeah it's a [Music] resorts pretty small and that's probably why I got to this level that I can just ride whenever I want and if I want to learn something new on the rail sort of knuckle so I can just go up there and build it and getting creative and just try it it's awesome to experience all the best parts and mountains all around the world but like coming home and ride up my home Resort is always the best the gold medal last year in slope style a silver medal in big air just last night is coming in riding with supreme confidence I love that feature it just goes to show doesn't mean you don't need a massive you don't need the best you just need a ride a lot of artists Cleveland is for people who haven't watched this kid ride at 80 years old what makes him so special for control his ability to pop off his front foot is back foot ability to flip off of rails there we call that the berserker switch that's gonna be a throwaway run for barges cleaver Wow I just saved it with that front sights ahead and I going in back triple o sixty that he knew that switch back pan you saw yeah he was kind of playing it by year scrambling a little bit there yeah became straight jazz but here we go to 70 on 450 get knocked off filter he is the one who brought that trick to slopestyle snowboarding and he's probably the best at it so Marcus will look to clean things up on attempt number two again each of the riders getting three runs here in this finals format as we await his run one score of 40 quitting him into fifth and run one these are having too much fun in here I was out there I had to come in here so sage you just watched Run 1 Darcy sharp with a commanding lead what do you think so far Darcy's run was insane I'd love to see Mick moe toss it down and Cleveland put those down and then from there on I'd like to just you know see people build on those runs and go from there back stack stack if you put your run down you're in the top two exactly we want to see a couple more stomps in their stage it's been a minute since an American even meddled in this event you were the last one to do it back in 2012 I'm claiming Reds gonna do it Red's my dog he's gonna he's gonna get it right here I mean he's got all the tricks he's got the technical rail he's got it's that switch to pluck do you pull back you're putting your slope run is straight up money if you like calling some runs with us let's do this all right well we got you so here is a look right now at the top three after run 1 Darcy shot the lead Reggie our top-ranked qualifier Gerard sitting in second and Tyler Nicholson our defending silver medalist sitting in third place as we bring you back to the top of the Jeep slopestyle course just like that run to set to kick it off you don't know how do you feel about you think you don't go and switch back 16 20 on the second job dude Yuki is straight up a tornado coming down the school hearse dude he has all the tricks and let's see what he's got here we were talking about on his first run brando the consistency is really affects them yeah it's the work to fall in the first rail man and then going in now that was the second run going into your third run with falling on Drake meters rail is a huge like mentally breaks you down Craig and I talked about it so much success in big air it's crazy to us that he doesn't even have a top 10 finish in slope style it's so good any hat you know he has that US Open went with the right with those back-to-back triples that was just a mind-blowing run but yeah I mean that stands you come here and it's definitely a mental mental task being here with all the world's best and everyone watching well speaking of mental days now on his third of three runs coming in you're dropping and you know you fell on the first rail that is the only thing that looks you in the face yeah on your third run it's out you regain control regain confidence when you're coming in maybe you hit that come into the Joseph yeah you've kindly gotta just go numb do it cuz if you fall on one of the jumps you can't see them they're at the bottom and like you just said it's a perfect example the rails is staring you in the face you've got to let that go and know that you have it so here's the michigan kid Kyle Mack finished 7th at X Games Aspen 2016 when he made his debut trying to find his very first X Games poem kit flare for days hit they're looking to see a front end you gotta put some respect on that thing little street flare I thought you would be a guy that would really appreciate this particular edition of the slopestyle course given how techy it is up top one of the best slope courses I've seen this is such a sick trick switch backside 12 grabbing switch tail that second port on it so you digging into the oh and that's just the giving of trouble okay we saw him fall on that in his first run I was so amazed in the qualifier it was a two run format he went yard on it and was able to save it but here's a day that double michael checked it's not working out for ya that landing looks a little brick to so I think those guys that are hitting the quarter pipes on it having a little bit of a tough time coming down on it today what's so hard not to over rotate that trick look at him trying fight yeah yeah toe edge in but just unfortunate so seventh place is where kind of man this day but of course he does give one more attempt out here on the course tonight 96 Pacific on ESPN our coverage continues from Aspen with the there she's riding so good but I love seeing Kelly take the top two just got to put some respect on that which they respect on that name we expected some respect on Kris Corning the corn dog out here putting it down dude Kris corny in his X Games debut looking so comfortable on this course was terrific and qualifiers sitting in 6th place not so terrific on that second rail feature they're coming off way early what do you make of that backside rodeo off that a frame there's dude backside rodeo up to a frame is gnarly coming in the cab 12 nose panting Ali how are you [Music] Wow frontside 1440 on that bottom jump so a full pull from Chris corny than you will but right at the top round oh that Braille bobble yeah yeah the judges are keeping this thing so close to the vest they want to see it from top to bottom in years past maybe you could get away if you're a big guy jumps of fixie anot oh yeah getting a little lighter on the rails 928 no in 2018 you got to have a grade rails and a great jumps it's not like you know you're just gonna win on the jumps nowadays it's just not end of an era especially the way this course is building nowhere you couldn't know exactly I like how you put it because the rails are a huge part of it there's a lot of them and if you put a technical and creative run together with the rails you're gonna pry see yourself on the podium speaking of technical and creative Brando chipped our c-sharp diamonds are alluding to that's what we call a sec way okay Darcie sharp our current leader just so six-six my goodness I love this rail line is so technical watch this nollie front blunt safe something you don't really see on that camera he was not laying into that was just really sick I'm always saying all we need he jumps off his front foot when you ollie onto a rail you usually take off with your front foot up and then your back foot drives the pocket and ollie love the hardware katzie's just the distance covered on that trick is so good now sharks sitting in first place with an 87 56 and Wow heavy edge couplets looks like you kind of houdini'd out of that one though without the score he's kind of it you kind of escape this door up there that cab over so epic so gnarly that rail is extremely long so you're cooking into that now this switchback 12 sage looks like he had it it looks like you had if he can seize he comes around his body keeps rotating can't see it on that angle but that's an edge catch right there and that is one of the worst ways to fall we sail we saw semi - the big air laughs and he landed and then your body keeps rotating you catch your edge and you're just not ready for it darcy sharp though evades inter that's when you just go full body bag there's nothing else that you can do there it's just your body's Block in Tehran respect it's just like everything is coming together this winter and it couldn't happen to a better kid 50 outside three sick or at a better time oh good noisiest of hammers that was insane mad nice kids laying it down this is one of the best tricks of the competition triple on the money booter Brando looks like he missed a little bit of pop on that a little less speed it's amazing we always talk about guys when they make their X Games debut as he did last year with all the talent but maybe he's not able to put it together on the big stage for sure all of a sudden totally different ballgame he got switched back to 70 Paul back was textbook that's something you've seen a video part right there so gnarly and this back triple 1440 as you said just didn't get the pop now you got a wonder he hits the quarter pipe lands extremely deep does he have enough speed to really generate the lift needed for that triple true so red will hold on to his first run score of that eighty two point six six and second place is where he will stay Sunday our X Games coverage from Aspen continues on espn2 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern we'll have the women's ski big air and the men's ski all of our X Games coverage is also streaming live on the es [Music] and there he is a bronze medal and uncharacteristic bronze medal last year in this event because he flat-out owns it can he get back one of the most consistent riders of our generation here yeah on backside 270 270 out the way you held that on that time on that kind of trick it's easy to over rotate on the rail of Mark McMorris keeping that Tavita switchback 12 now we went down on this trick here in the last run 1 2 3 no mistakes no handcuffing waiting for the 16 2 3 guys for the 14 keeps it in D that was insane follower 1 set off the top sage one of the most consistent riders of our generation in the name that Brando gave Mark McMorris why do you call him the closer because when he comes out everybody else is done Enter Sandman here comes the closer switch backside 1260 and where this run was really made was right here this front triple on the second jump went down that on that and run 1 but sage Domus is going that insane off jump number 2 jump number 2 looks like a tough one for everyone here especially him on his first run and he has laid that one down looked easy now sage I got to ask you back triple 1440 we know marks got the 16 20 you think he's gonna drop that in his third run I guarantee he's gonna drop it in his third run just even if he's in first I guarantee he's just gonna do it just the ceiling deal thirty six point three three for Mark McMorris on run number one probably a better score I think it's gonna be better we have a new leader on the gun for Mark McMorris welcome to first place respect right there they still got more in the deck back in familiar territory is Mark McMorris I have the tiger up here Tyler Nicholson yeah how do you follow that up by the way Mark McMorris puts down that 90 Tyler Nicholson our soldier battle is from last year he's sitting in fifth place switch front boy look at his camp to that Braille that big that is big again I had a lot of speed coming back rodeo of this grabbing views on the backside row do you see a lot of guys get down that's front enemy PL edge Nicklaus adopting to grab front and in between the bindings we switch backside there but you made that backside Japan Road yeah it's so famous big fat we're big fancy let's not forget blew out his ACL less than a year ago in saying that he's riding at the level he is right now Tyler Nicholson is a bulldog he's a little bee he is straight up ball dog if that's weak right there collect the areas board keeps rotating can't hold it no son Darcy sharp yeah let's switch backside 1260 his shoulders kept turning got his edge there Nicholson his shoulders keep turning and that will be a throwaway run look at the focus here his own Marcus Cleveland at that silver medal last night in big air landed another quad I think he's asked himself what more do I have to do I know he wants to improve on this how does he respond to Mark McMorris who just took the long with a nice gap back lip that's now that was very pretty of that down flat down back to in to out with someone saying just do that yep there we go love that trick too in 450 out we've been calling that the Berserker I like it I like it 10 bolts that's what gave him trouble and he had to go kind of rogue on this next jump but this is what he really wanted 16 triple dipping and another triple dip right here I did not want to be this is when you literally just do not want to be a judge in these scenarios its nitpicky typing everything to my I was textbook yeah but we're not judges here the bat the gap back lip that was textbook the only draw away would call was that flat down rail kinda came off a little bit early was a little bit CG and that's when you're not teed up for your boards completely 90 but I mean we're just picking that straws now splitting hairs yeah seriously is that enough those two landings that you have to take two that were flawless to catapult Cleveland into the top spot six six all the way in the first place are just gold medalist goes in Seine Marcus Cleveland taking over the top spot on run number two here starts the battle so two attempts into our three-run final slopestyle final on just a gorgeous day three here at X Games Aspen it's been so much fun the last couple of days headline night one david wise winning the gold for different double corks that's never been done 1260 part me in the pipe on the ski side and we were a part of this one yesterday Jamie Anderson back on top after six straight silver medals another gold she is on another level and then what about max Perot of the barn burner of a big air we had last night going cap triple 1800 and then a frontside triple two scores could buy and that got him the gold I got to talk to him after he loved the fidgets spinner ass back to the goal pedal and then finally snowmobile freestyle ret Turcotte this guy went double gold so he wins that and then speed and style last night like a boss comes back and goes to four to doughnut the scary thing is Brando yeah he still has another event this week oh don't tell me that could it be three four three Jaimie Anderson a cold best excuse ever she
