hello and welcome back this is jeff of taofledermaus today we brought back mike the welder you may remember him from the russian steel case shotgun shell video and i certainly got the impression that he was well liked by our viewers when i say well like that means there weren't that many direct insults towards him weird comments about his fingers or hair or teeth but i know you're not like that and just like me you appreciate all the folks that helped me produce these videos but mike bravely came back and at the end of the video he'll talk about some of the stuff that he creates so stay tuned for that today we'll be testing these buckshot loads but it'll also be a test about mike because he has never patterned buckshot before he has no idea what his limitations are now i almost never accept another person's hand loads but because these came from wade rush who is so well respected in the reloading community and his buckshot loads are legendary they've been tested documented and proven to be safe and effective and i have to have complete confidence before i hand these off to mike to shoot now wade also has a channel called bubba roundtree outdoors be sure to check him out lots of good information there now wade sent us a big variety of different shells almost no two are exactly the same and this is the perfect way to make me go crazy we have different brands of holes different brands of wads different brands of primers different brands of powder and of course differing powder loads of those different brands of powder we got some pellets that are powder coated different colors we have different brands of buffer we got some that are roll crimped some that are fold crimped and we have different size pellets with varying number of pellets in each shell 10 pellets 14 pellets 24 pellets yep check me into the loony bin our first targets is pumpkin it's full of water it's about 20 yards away if you don't fill with water you're doing it wrong for these tests we're going to be using this buck kicker full choke that was also sent to us by bubba and we're going to see how it performs with the shells that he also sent us i bet it grates cheese really well we'll let you guys try to decipher what this is but pretty much these are all pretty big loads um this one's utilizing blue pellets with a buffer uh medium and we got 16 pellets it looks like on the shell so we'll see what that means yep had some kick that is one monstrous load of buckshot 16 pellets most buckshot loads are nine pellets and overall mike did pretty well considering i didn't give him any practice shots but it's not his fault that's a brand new 18 and a half inch barrel i just bought costs way more than i should have paid but it has these nice iron sights on it kind of like rifle sights that you can adjust we'll just bring up the elevation a little bit and he should be good to go for the next shot if i did it right last one's a 14 pallet load so should be fairly similar to the last one oh yeah that was a hard hitter a little adjustment to the elevation and mike is shooting like a pro got a nice tight pattern but we do have that 14th pellet flyer 20 to 30 yard engagements with wild boar are very common in shotgun hunting the techniques strategies and ranges used in shotgun hunting are very similar to those used in bow hunting so we got a number two buck with a 24 pellet load we're gonna do that next very nice lots of energy there well this time we got 24 pellets and it looks like we have about a 12-inch pattern there that's pretty good we wanted to make sure the gun was still sighted in and mike was still confident in shooting at 20 yards we also wanted to wash off the table a little bit and get rid of some of those flies i call that a success so for this next round we're going to use this number zero it's a 32 cal 14 pellet looks like it's got uh red pellets in there so it should show up pretty nice and we'll see what this one does as well we have the gun side in for 20 yards this is at 30 yards and mike is using the same point of aim in other words at 30 yards we're not seeing enough drop of the pellets where mike would have to compensate and aim a little bit above the target at 30 yards we are seeing a bigger spread i'd estimate it to be about a 20 inch spread at this point and of course for a wild boar-sized target that thing would have been peppered very effectively at that range so this one's going to be similar to the first one that we fired off this one's uh number zero 0.31 16 pellet with the blue pellets should be somewhat similar to that first shell that we shot at 50 yards mike's still using the same point of aim in other words shooting it at point blank without any compensation for drop as you can see he probably should have used a few inches of holdover aiming slightly above the target that's hard to tell but it looks like at 50 yards the spread is about 30 inches this is at pretty much 50 yards and so out of uh what the was it 16 on that one 16 i think we got three yep okay so we got two similar shells here we're gonna try to hit this uh pig target at about 70 yards and we're going to try using the 18 18 and a half inch barrel first and then we're gonna go to the the longer barrel and see if there's any improvement with that that is a long ways for buckshot it's too far for the film with a high-speed camera in fact okay take a shot and see where it lands [Music] with that 18.5 inch barrel i think we got about nine uh shots actually hit the target and out of those nine shots pretty much there's a silhouette on around the entire target uh there was like two hits here on the spine which probably probably would have taken it out okay so we're going to try to somewhat recreate that last shot but this time with the longer 28 inch barrel and see if it uh you know changes anything at all uh see hopefully we'll get maybe a tighter grouping maybe fingers crossed we don't know see that doesn't have that nice rifle sight on there so he's got these clunky bead sights on there he's taking some practice shots we'll see if he's got it down or not anytime you're ready yeah so this one was a lot more interesting we definitely saw some improvement here on this um we had one two three four five for a direct hit so it's pretty much like a potential liver shot liver shot lung shot spine um whatever you want to say that is and then over here is got really interesting because then he pretty much had a silhouette once again around the face he got a real that's a lucky face shave yeah so yeah i mean that was a lot more effective that time uh so 70 yards so i mean yeah that was doable i hope you enjoyed the video and it gives you some idea of the effectiveness of buckshot at different ranges now i realize that using so many different loads makes it very difficult for a viewer to follow along and make any kind of comparative analysis i stare at these shells for months trying to figure out how i was going to make a video of so many different loads and we certainly had a lot more shells than we had sunlight it took us about four hours to film the footage that you saw just now but don't get me wrong it was still really interesting to film the different loads that we tested and compare them with each other hey everyone i'm mike this is my business mike's metalworks i have a
