Humming does actually help to "lower ones voice" like Matthew was saying. Im a 24 yr old guy with a deep voice, but when i get nervous/hyped up my voice immidietely transforms into a lighter boy-ish voice; humming as 'deep' as you can will help with regaining the real voice.

Matthew is fantastic as Rust Cohle in HBO True Detective. His mannerisms and the way he delivers his dialogue is superb. I feel he for sure beats his chest to drop his voice for True Detective. He owns the scenes in True Detective where in present time he is being questioned.

before move on we must also just mention wolf wall street's which you are a genius in and their their object long people a lot of people seen that movie it's done really really well here and again it's one of the things that a lot of that character but he wasn't on the page it was stuff that you came up with yeah now look Terence winter the writer when a writer writes a scene and gives dialog to a character and it starts off with they're in a 5-star restaurant he pulls out a bump of coke takes it orders martinis until they drop then says hey hey young man how many times a week he jack off great and also let me tell you this the secret of this business is hookers and cocaine I mean talk about the roof being taken off I was like well who's this guy the vernacular you became it we became the imagination ran what is the thing you're doing and that you know the banging in the stomach what is that is it a meditation technique or that's something I do already a more successful that's something I'll do before scenes to relax myself get my voice to drop um I've been doing it for a while but it's just something I do to relax myself get out of my head um and I was doing it before the scene and then I'd start the scene we do five takes I'm happy Martin's happy we're about to move on and before we moved on Leonardo raises and he goes hey hang on a second he goes what's that thing you're doing before the scene and I told him he goes well if you put that in the scene I was like yeah great so the next thing that started it off then gave him my mark Hanish spiel and didn't know if it was gonna come back and it hit me in my head I was like oh and now get him on the same rhythm because now he understands passed the torch um and then started out did you do it before you came out here no on the way down the hallway I was sure humming and making noise I wouldn't beat my chest but I would tell me fine will you be doing it on the limo on the way to the Oscars probably yeah I like to think of you doing it and I find some sort of rhythm it's different every look any of you here is obsessed now okay
