wake that ass up in the morning the breakfast club morning everybody it's tj envy angela yee charlemagne the guy we are the breakfast club we got some special guests in the building master product man that's what the p stands for master product with his sons hersey and mercy welcome fellas yes pete came in with a big bag with everything he got i'm gonna just tell y'all ain't nobody got more product than me in the industry i keep telling y'all it's 90 business 10 talent and so any orders or producer 5 producer 5 artist what happened when that over with your career over with uh we got to start thinking trust funds uh family trust if you look at what happened with dmx blackrock it's like we got to start thinking bigger and that's why i said we need to hip hop union but i've been dealing with dr sasha spade and uh we're going to come up with something about trust funds so we need to make sure the industry understand that and product always talent my son's hell of a basketball player but they're not going to be dumb jocks they're going to be they're gonna be uh owning business they're gonna be able to do other stuff that when they look at us they look at me come from hip-hop my boy is educated that's right you know what i'm saying so hurt said mercy that's what i love about the ace students some of the top basketball players in high school in the world congratulations to both of you y'all just won the state championship right yeah yeah yeah and then hersey you going to tennessee state tennessee yep and you got a scholarship off already too right yeah i got it i got a couple offers and you're only a freshman yeah yeah it's not a game how does that make you feel pete as a father it makes me feel good man because we come a long way and uh even my youngest son he's already they got high schools now next year the rules is changing they're they're trying to play pay kids to go to high schools and stuff so they want to wow they got a program just called me to pay me to get him so we want the top players i'm like man we're about education like we we bigger than that and then with with uh hersey already you know with the ncaa the rules are changing in august so i got two deals on the table for both of them but i can't do it till august i mean i made 400 a month playing basketball at a top university but now he got a deal on the table we got agent advertising as you can use the likeness he already got a deal for 2.5 million dollars and he'll probably be the highest paid player at any college not just a hbcu wow and that that's being able to stay in school and then my youngest son he got a deal on the table for a million but we can't even take it right now because but the rules are changing so i just think that's the that's where we're going there man this education that's what that's that's what it's about for us i love that my kids are ballers but education is more important i'm teaching them about business about giving back about not forgetting where you come from and so i just respect hercy move about going to hbcu and putting the spotlight on because that's that's going to change the game now we talk about it all the time we've been talking about it for the last i don't even know 10 years we've been on this radio if one athlete decided to go to hbcu so why was that decision important for you to say you know what i'm gonna go against the grain i'm gonna do something that nobody else goes now you know most kids say i want to go to not a hbcu because usually hbcus don't get the tv time they don't get the notoriety but you was like f that i'mma change why well what uh with me i always thought outside of the box you know i feel like i'm different i feel like with me going to hbcu i can make a difference and that's what i did i wanted to make a change and put a spotlight on for all the spcu's around my dad always taught me to be a leader and uh i just made that decision off of my own decision and i felt like it's the right decision and like i said i want to change the narrative so how many schools did you visit uh i visited like five or six schools like i i had a bunch of offers but tennessee state is the one stuck out to me for sure that's gonna be so exciting for everybody there by the way yeah and financially like the people that are gonna go to the games all the so you now can we talk about that so now that you said things are changing right yeah how so what how does the deal get structured well people are coming at me uh and they know that they are my kids and they just i mean put millions of dollars on the table because they know i mean we just hearsty play with the number one player in the country and we just won state he was the leading scorer of the game he then led them to him at mercy to state championship mercy as a freshman he had 15 percent in the state championship game he had 24 points i mean a lot of advertising agencies realize that these kids are the future but my thing is i'm saying i'm i'm happy because now they're investing into the future and so these these companies already see it earlier so what if i had lebron what if i had kobe at a high school level to market and promote my product uh a kyrie irving i mean and like like like hershey always say uh when you look at uh a little what is uh yeah damon little like nobody really believed in him and now he's one of the top his top players in the nba but imagine you caught those guys up front because my kids had to work for everything right like i made they know they work horses but we put guard first uh none of them had a car like i didn't buy my kids cars like they walked to school they rode their bicycles you know and and and that's what got them in the shape they got because i want to teach them how it works i feel most people don't see that too they probably just think that we have everything handed to us that's not the case like me and mercy work like we from the project you know like we put into work every day uh like my dad said i'm not getting a car until i go to college so i mean it's a blessing being able to do that though but one day i'm gonna get him a car too so that's right and that's that's hard right when you come from me it's like your daddy is p so he he got money but even as a parent it's like how do you instill in your kids the right amount of work ethic and not be spoiled and not to feel privileged you know what i want them to be successful even when i'm not here i want to build a generational wealth so i know what got me here hard work because even you hear a lot of these artists crying uh once their careers are over you got to figure something else out and that's what i'm doing we started business so let me show you with my boys i know y'all seen this i started this with my boys the 25-year ice cream man anniversary and we got our own ice cream it only makes sense we missed the ice cream man we got our own ice cream what's it called the great great l.a great okay great you know what i'm saying l.a great in in this ice cream is so important because it took us 25 years but just the best tasting ice cream you could get uh we got lactose free thank god and then all natural southern ice cream but i'm gonna show you how much product i got that's what i'm talking about preparing got the ice cream okay you got the water great water little authentically guess you really about today what you're really excited about about today that's what l.a great is about oh i got something for you i got the wifey you know what i'm saying that's the wine right there just in case passed that tour so look at your energy drink that's a good tool oh yeah so the king kong and energy drink it says make them say um holy who's cereal okay i got the baking soda case you want a big size oh nobody's seen this that's the icon puffs the rap snacks this is the best tasting puffs you ever had i'm just telling you thanks no you're not lying all right you got the master p icon noodles hold on i got the fish fry this is going to be this will be kroger's next week so percy and mercy i don't think y'all gonna be able to sign no other endorsement like he said we do it all as a family like we got our series the shoes this y'all the miatas y'all see what we doing we're getting better with time uh this is my favorite this is i like and then the one yes charlotte maine remember you was talking you see why not getting better one time you're getting better absolutely you know what i'm saying 100 and uh i got the nipsy blues from my homie rest in peace you know what i'm saying are you gonna come i know you're coming out with a basketball shoe you've got something i got but i gotta get that right so i'm letting them weather shoes they love to wear okay so y'all see our pack i keep the pack you know what i'm saying so this this this is how we doing it so product outweighs talent like i told y'all listen to mystical song mystical said uh mexico said uh 90 is your business 10 percent is your talent and snoop got it that's why he's successful right now a lot of artists do not get that they're sitting around angry and mad but you got to realize even that record people be telling me i got a hit song okay why you know even producers and artists they got so many songs in a computers you could buy a beat now for 200 right and it'd be done so they don't care about that once it's over the next three to five years they're looking for somebody else and what happens after that and so that's what i'm teaching my boys and i want to teach that game to everybody that's listening just know without that record being marketed promoted coming it's like i did the ice cream man without me coming up with a concept for this this would be nothing if the ice cream man song wasn't named ice cream is like okay what would it be yeah yeah so that was after we made the record after producers did it and i put my vocals to it i had to get out there and market to spend money people don't know like even a zone of the song down from my hitters that song was not a hit at first so that song was hot c liked it magic liked it they took it took it everywhere but me and xl had made a clean version and snoop didn't even know that record was a hit because we had another record we put out as the single and we had to keep going to the club i had to pay for video all these different things to make that a hit and i think that artists don't realize that's why they sell their soul to these major labels and all this stuff but you know be like damn you got so much talent but why you sold your soldiers in major labor because you know that 90 of it is the business right and i think we don't prepare and that's why i said like even the artists that we lost i mean i mean god blessed the day of my home in nipsey hustle he had to sign a record deal because he just couldn't make it on his own and when i looked at the deal he had he was like oh i just got to do it i'm like when he signed to atlantic think about it he wasn't happy because he wasn't normally doing what he normally do and so you look at it and that's what we have to change that never started talking about economic empowerment uh and i want to change that with my boys when you talk about business and when you talk about you know education is so important everybody thinks about the money why i'm still successful because i realized so think about it uh famous amos cookies right mm-hmm they end up selling that company for two billion dollars that was just for some cookies you see how much product we have up here right let me ask you this yes getting your product in stores right because that's something i'm dealing with right now yes how how receptive are people because obviously there's a limited amount of shelf space there's competition yes when it comes to these different products so how have these meetings been going how is are they receptive well so for me and that's what i did in new orleans they have a company called ross's and my thing is to get african-american owned products into those stores and on those shelves and they agreed to do that they agreed to put money back into the community and i just love it it's hard it's hard for us to get our product onto those shelves so now we have an avenue if the product is good we're able to get it in these stores and and i talked to the owners of those companies that say and i've already already started putting other uh products of other african american small loan business into those stores so i just think that we got to make good product and we also have to support it i'm talking about as as consumers you know we always support other people products but if we're going to build economic empowerment then we have to support our price we got to go buy these products not just get them into the stores you know the hard part is is finding the stores that they're in like you know same thing with you like i got my i got a water yep positivity water we got it in hudson and all the airports which was very difficult yes got it in city trends but the problem is it's like when i go to a new york store new york gas station i would love to support yes but they don't have it they only have a certain amount so it's kind of focusing on the distributors to make sure we get in there and i guess he's trying to say how do we make sure we get it in all those stores that these distributors are are focusing on on minority owned businesses as well yeah well you know what think about it with with the george floyd case you know we stand and we protest and we march and you know my boys we we're in minnesota so you know this is where we come from and we have a house there and it's like we protesting for that but now what i told them i mean what do you guys think the biggest thing is economic empowerment right we don't know we don't have a plan what what are we asking for and now it's time to demand that if we're going to change that narrative so we can help our communities and our cultures we got to stand up you know because everybody got their black lives matter shirt on and even you see in the nba we look at lebron you look at kd you look at kyrie irving and they they talked about putting money back into hbcus we got to start holding them accountable like we just got to start holding not lebron but we say in the nba you know they may they maybe they need to start going in there and screaming at these people saying look well where are you guys putting that money into because what i told hersey is the only difference with tennessee state you know they don't have the big jumbo trines that the other major universities have so with hershey coming there they get a big time at the league like this they're going to know these companies in the community these games are going to be sold out people are calling from all over the world to come but we need to make sure we put that invest back into the arenas but that don't have to start with making sure the small business in the community that we are supporting it and so that's the whole thing is community driven but you know a lot of these companies say they're giving money but we got to find out where they're giving that money too that's right and and when you talk about business like you guys have i mean you guys on the radio you guys on social media social media is changing the game so we just have to go harder on social media to make sure that they get our products and i think you know all these companies that say they want diversity they saying that they putting back and helping small business right we're going to start holding them accountable and saying okay well put us in your stores put us in walmart put us in target put us in kroger you know and i think that's the that's the narrative and that's that's what i like about the rosters thing is like they're actually doing something about it i actually have a meeting with them this weekend and i got that meeting because of greg from wheat act okay and you know i got i got we that stuff in there yeah exactly so he got in there and then he called me and he was like look i told him about your press juices and so he set it up and now i'm going down it so we got to do that same thing with walmart and target we have to use our resources i think our problem is we don't understand that resources is the that's how i'm able to survive 25 years in the business keeping good relationships and resources and i think that's what people don't they don't do you know it's all about education like even with my kids i said okay what's economics economics uh it's a study of how society uses limited resources yeah what's investment uh to allocate money or current financial resources in order to achieve high gains in the future that's what i'm talking about my whole thing is we need to be sending our kids to college instead of the prison you know when i was 18 and 15 like we wasn't thinking like that so my whole thing is if i want to be a generation well because it's not what i have all this is temporary i don't care nothing about the money we don't live for the money but if we could leave an imprint on this planet so when they look at us oh yeah masterpiece started a rough life he started from the streets but look at my kids they're not gonna have to go through what i went through but i'm still gonna teach them hard work you're a generational curse breaker pete yeah yeah you know what that and that's what it's about so people can't get mad at me if they locked up but they don't have nothing on the corner you want to hang on a calendar you're never going to have nothing now if i could tell uh your future by your friends i tell people all that time show me your friends and i'll show you your future and i think our culture don't get that so if you sitting around you angry you're mad and you're talking about something i don't care about what i did 20 years ago charlemagne that's right i'm focused on that now how to grow how to get better how to how to have my kids a better life you know i'm not crying about oh well this person didn't do this for me uh man once time goes by you got to keep moving because time don't wait for nobody like i told them everybody got 24 hours if you hanging in a club partying or chilling you ain't gonna have nothing don't get mad at me because i'm shining 25 years later and i'm not even making money off of no music i'm doing something totally different and i never tell y'all one thing about me i never hated nobody else i always celebrated with puffy uh jay-z whoever was successful i celebrated that because i know my time gonna come in if i keep working i mean when we started the chips me and james lindsay it's like you know what let's get out there and do something big you know me and james talk about it all the time and nobody believe but i'm selling them now that's why you're going to see me on a lot of these bags because if you ain't promoting if you ain't promoting this like you're promoting all the mother brands we don't need your own that's right they really have those in the bodegas like i go into bodega it's really on my corner in the store yes now p you had a lot of artists right yes and people were talking recently about black rob and was like diddy should be helping and did he should be doing this um and we should be starting a union i kind of feel like the the the industry should be like the nfl or the nba when you get into that league when you get into that place they they they have a guy that shows you what to do with your money and how to invest your money what you should be doing you feel like the industry should be doing the same because you know you get somebody from the hood that's never had anything you give them two three hundred thousand dollars they don't know what to do they don't know how to make that yeah so let me tell you we do need a union and i said that a long time ago uh i think the problem is we're not holding self accountability oh no when i went to visit people in prison i asked the ward and i said why a lot of these guys here say 90 of the people here it's because of drugs and drugs is killing our people man and and we're not holding ourselves accountable so we like to blame it on everybody but what about the big record companies i you know we you point the thing at the deities and and all that stuff but what about the jimmy ivenes and all these guys that you don't talk about i've never seen nobody said nothing they the ones who got the money think about it did he the middle man to to to these big corporations which he made a good life for himself but i never seen nobody angry or frustrated because those guys should be helping those guys made billions of dollars then he might have made millions but he's still the middle man to the gateway so i'm i'm just disappointed that our culture that nobody never you know you you get angry and upset at these guys but diddy did we had to do so think about this and black rob i love him man and dmx all these guys and these guys amazing talent but that's what they want to do to beat they signed up to be talent and so when that talent is over that's why that's why i'm doing this with my kids like don't just be talented you spend your money because you you sign up for something it's like a deal you sign that deal like when i sign that deal with them big companies they don't care if i lose everything and go back to the hood that's right but nobody gonna say nothing about it but if if i sign the artist and then now they don't make it and they doing bad you're gonna look oh that's your fault no you don't understand the process a lot of these guys get greedy and they want to go do their own thing i let a lot of guys go i've never said you got to stay with me i'ma break your leg or something like i'm like no man you don't want to be with me it's like a relationship go on about your life i let them go on most of those guys left me and you can ask anybody that signed the deal with me that i never held them back i never asked them for nothing they went did other deals to this day snoop went on and did what he had to do we got a great relationship some of the guys didn't do what they need to do they angry and upset you can't be angry or sadder somebody how long do you think a music career lasts you know what i'm saying michael jackson went to the top and fell off before he died so when he died the stuff came back up it's like dmx music went up four five hundred percent that makes no sense so a lot of these guys sitting around angry and upset you can't blame diddy or jay-z because everybody gonna die that's what y'all got to realize like so stop figuring that part out and if you get a hit song if you need to go in the a r go find a job go find a job don't just think that if i just thought i could be master peter ice cream man or music stuff forever time go by my kids my album 25 years old my kids ain't even that age so that's a long time you have to figure something else out and i think we just got to put our trust in fate and god manage and use this like even the young artists right now because they dying young 19 20 years old you better start thinking about something else and how to last and survive and i think that's what that's what we're not doing because i i keep going back to his education and stop burning a finger so when somebody go to jail so this is what i'm this i want to tell y'all which we don't talk about what you said if somebody go to jail we always say free somebody what about the family that lost their lives or their kid that got killed during this incident or whatever so we got to start looking at that we got to start saying okay it's two sides to every story that's right you know and so you know the negativity that we're dealing with right now we got to change that with we're positive because even right now i mean we're dealing with so much police brutality in in and it's it's crazy but at the same time go look at the numbers i looked at the thing in philadelphia where how many of us killing us it's way more than that but we don't want to talk about that because that ain't good to talk about but what i'm saying how we gonna educate us how we gonna educate our kids for me having my kids walk out the street saying you know what don't just think you got rights your rights is to get home parents we gotta teach that to our kids you know because now we think we got all right so we we ready to go turn up when the police pull us over i'm not teaching that to my kids the one right if you go to jail i can get you out i want to get you home and we can figure it out so that's the rights that i i'm hoping that this generation get and i hope that same thing my dad said my dad's a retired police officer and one thing he says you can't win in the streets yes you can't win he said you go to jail i can get you home weekly right after but if you die well you know what do nothing with it you know what you know what we are ashamed of the truth we don't want to hear the truth and that that's one thing about back in the days the older people tell you the truth i'm gonna give you the truth and i think that now even artists somebody get caught up into something we don't want to deal with the truth even if somebody died so that's part of the truth though because i mean we've seen people comply with police officers and still end up dead yeah you know what i'm saying yeah we've seen people in handcuffs on the ground instead of man i'm saying that they don't have a right to kill us that's right right they don't have the right to kill us i'm saying that part but i'm just saying us we gotta know when we walk out that door what we're dealing with we got to talking that's what i'm saying we straight targets absolutely so you know think about it so that's why changing and growing that's what that's what i've done my life i'm not perfect but i'm saying you know yeah i come from a rough life i haven't been thrown on the ground by the police and everything and then sometime i'm happy to police around think about it because if somebody gets shot at somebody get killed where you at you where the police the p you're crying you people crying for the police so you know and then i just think it's i don't look at it like police i look at that good people and bad people and everything we do the bad people need to be locked up the good people need to be celebrated that's how i look at it and and i'm tired of them killing us i'm tired of us marching and i'm saying we got to come up with some type of plan and do something mm-hmm that that's what this is about and that's what i'm doing i'm starting with my family saying let me educate my kids so they could have a chance to live a better life and and maybe they could make a difference just what hershey's doing right now you know saying that i don't i don't rose to this level as a talent but now i can go to hbcu and change it for all of them and that's that's a blessing were you tempted by any other office from other schools are you 100 like i'm going to an hbcu uh you know like i've said all offers i had a few a bunch of them on the table it's just like tennessee was the place for me i felt like because it's a place where i can connect with community too and like my dad said that's a big thing i want to bring people together and i felt like i could make a big change so tennessee state was the one that grabbed my attention mostly mercy do you have any idea where you want to go i know you've gotten an offer already well for me i got offers from hbcus too so i mean i'm open to anything i'm still young right now so i got time but i mean i'm open to going wherever so you don't have a choice in your head they're like man if i get in no not right now i'm trying maybe one day uh if hershey does good i'm gonna team up with him so there we go we gonna see you guys y'all one state together how did that feel together that was a that was a crazy experience for me being on that team like being the top five team in the country so just winning the state championship it was just a it was a blessing in the honor for real yeah now being able to play my little brother that's it's something else like not too many people can have can say that they play with a family member so and want to stay together so yeah you think you're better than um your dad was at his prime i believe so they're younger y'all you can't compare that cause like you know mercy six-fold freshman he's a shooter hershey sixth street park guard that's like but they quick fast they dunking on people they don't you know so at my time i showed them i said different play styles yeah it's a different game and but i was showing him and i don't know if y'all know i showed hercy because he dunked on people a lot i say look they had a guy play with me pull him up helicopter so he played in the cba with me this dude okay crazy hops huh but you gonna show you how the time times change but just like people try to compare jordan and uh lebron james you can't you'll never see that you'll never get a chance to see that so i just think that i'm happy that i've made it to a level and now they can make it to a level even further than me because this is all they do and like i said i mean when you love something you're passionate about so they don't do well i love them when i'm watching them first i'm i'm more proud of them that they honor students and a student but i'm like if i take this away from them that's when they upset so they got to go do what they got to do and they they love it that show me that they love it you know for for him to walk to the parks to go i want to see do you really want this and if i'm going to support you because i'm not going to waste my time i'm saying if you really love something as a parent i'm going to support you and i think that's what this is about uh you know we we say just like what our sheriff said family over everything you know what i'm saying so miller gang why why why y'all team doesn't get the i guess the publicity that lebron sun team get if y'all won state and uh well you know but you know what it's a process i believe because it's lebron you know lebron we we beat brian and james them team wow yeah we beat them by 20. oh wow yeah so uh that should have been a story i would have yeah but you know sometimes how does okay so why john marant when you had john marant and uh zion so you only heard about john moran you didn't even i mean you only heard about zion you never heard about john morento he got to the nba and i think the same thing going to happen with these boys is that the world because you know you try to hide it well you can't hide hard work and you can't hide passion and love and i think that espn uh all these places they already have they the people that they know even because they know that they know them first so they just got to work a little more harder to keep building i think winning state scoring 24 points and having the number one player in the country on your team and you lead the team i think that's going to account for something that mercy starting as a freshman i mean he beat out like six seniors on the team so to be able to shoot the ball the way he shoot the ball and the way he get to the goal and to the rack i mean espn riders are right in the bottom uh owners and and gm's are starting to talk about them now is it pressure to succeed at tennessee state no i see that's everyone think i feel i don't have no pressure like my dad said if i just work hard put the work out i'm gonna be all right and like it's gonna come natural to me so i'm good yeah and so all y'all in the portal right now transfer portal we need a big man a seven footer come on i'm just telling y'all right now this is where you wanna be at because the spotlight is coming they're going to have to put them on more tv games uh and then so when you look at tennessee state it's uh it's a mid major so what i mean by that is a mid major john marant went to murray state which is the same conference yep and oh do we have robert covington come out of the tennessee state so oh oh anthony mason went to tennessee state okay uh oprah winfrey with the tennessee state so like this is a place to where in in a lot of proactive leagues and like my dad said too i'm a student of the game and i'm a student like behind in the school work too like uh i did my research a lot of people came for hbcus oprah ditty common uh samuel jackson so it's like a lot of people can come from hbcu and be successful like that's what i wanted to show too yeah but you know what the most important thing son what what are you majoring in because that's that because if basketball you're gonna have a backup plan which a lot of athletes don't have what are you imagining yeah well uh tennessee state their engineering program's good so i'm majoring in architectural engineering so wow wow and i'm preparing mercy what are you what do you want to major in uh probably biomedical engineering so so we're not we're not going to school it'd be uh gym rats uh you know not just to play sports yeah hershey's gonna be building gyms he's gonna be building the miller hotels your daddy gonna have you building hotels yeah that's that's what i want i think that down the line when people look at me when i got hurt if he could once he get that degree charlotte man man let's don't build this it's going to develop absolutely you know you know what i was thinking about when you guys are talking about walking to the park walking to school riding your bike have the cops ever harassed you um no not at this person enough okay yeah because it has to be scary sometimes to even think about like all right my son's about to walk out that door and you never know what's gonna happen well you know what and that's we all taking chances so everyday life uh it was even rougher for me so i didn't give a parent teach their kids so even the kid that the police shot in minnesota which she's gonna probably end up going to jail too she talking about she had a taser no no such thing as a taser with a uh a taser don't feel like a gun so but i just wish that kid wouldn't have ran right i just that's the only thing she wrong for shooting them she should be the same thing with the other guy got but we also got to look at if we run now they got an excuse i don't want to give them any excuse yeah i get it but at 17 years old like my son is 17. it's the police fault man i just know no it's that fault the police put that kind of fear no but think about this right that's why the education part come in what i'm saying you're only going to get a ticket let's just get the ticket or let them take you to jail it's called the 19th you're not going to stay in no nothing but 15 minutes they probably just gonna write you up and let you go that makes no sense because they should be worrying about real criminal cases that's going on hitting the police right now you don't know what no we do that right now we ride the police get behind us we could be legit and we still love that kid like you know you just right here see if they turn right i don't know but that's what i'm saying but we're not teaching that and that's what we came uh with the educational part like i feel like we have to have everything right when we walk so my thing is as a parent now i'm making sure you know your license plates is straight everything that you got because they looking for excuse me so when you know that you're gonna be thinking a little differently and i think everything that happened right now you got one person losing their lives to save 10 million more and that's what that's what i'm saying all these cases have put a lot of light and what we've been dealing with for years that been been hidden because nobody had no phones nobody could see none of this stuff this ain't like this ain't been going on i think now we can actually see it and that's the crazy part about it with the power technology and so i just think that's the that's the part that we're gonna have to figure out how to keep educating us through this process because this is tragedy for us as black culture i mean the next step got to be some type of reform yes you know what i mean like none of us are safe until there's some actual police reform that prevents this stuff from happening that's what i'm saying with a plan of action that we just don't go out there much and burn stuff down though we want some real resolutions now mm-hmm yeah they're going to get lost they got the george floyd policing act on the table yeah because we don't lost too many of us you know so i just think that's the that's that's the part that i see that that the change that has to happen and that's why i say it got to start with economic empowerment because if we don't own the blocks or we don't own no property in these communities we have no verse and that's why you know if you look at us now as a culture we're thinking product look how you thinking now even though you got this you're doing these other things you're like no but i need my own product i want to create some wealth i want to be able to pass something down to my kids to to my family and i think that's the mindset we are starting to think like entrepreneurs and bosses now what what just what would a rapper's union look like p a a rappers union would look the same way a sag union or uh actors gail union would look like and i think that's how we got to start thinking so we got to we got to get some of these guys that at the top of the game that that made billions of dollars off of us these chairmans are these boards of all these companies and say you know let's do something i'm open i'm hoping to even sit down with our culture with the rock nations with the ditties uh with the 50 cents uh dr drake like we all need to get together in a room you know with the young artists the drakes and you know get in the room and let's let's figure something out to say let's take control of our future and like envy said the nba have it the major league baseball nfl have it you know when we die we just die there's nothing left even even prevention like you know for these drug things and medicare and that type of stuff we don't even have it and we'd have made hundreds of millions if not billions for these companies yeah artists can come together and form a union even for us on the radio we had to join yes um sag after in order to even be a full-time radio personality and see that cause you have to yeah and so and that and that's what we needed so what i've been doing even on another level for for small business uh i got the master p reviews where we've been yeah bringing people in and and and promoting a product putting it on shine and we've been doing that for free you go to masterpiewreviews.com send your product again and we've been marketing and promoting it and making sure that that uh people can actually see that see the product uh matter of fact is is she still result one of the ladies that i'm i'm i want to review her product i told her she was around here yeah i seen her in the home yeah ooh chantelle yes oh worldwide can't tell excellent come in so that's that's what that's what we've been doing it's not just about us it's about it's about all of us yeah chantelle she has a game called ryan antics and it's in target and walmart now y'all yes so this is what we do we we we take small business products and we market and promote let's let's let's show them your product like oh she a hustler she's been on the show she's working and but i'm saying so where where's your product getting now talk to the mic yeah you might like the mic so where's your target in walmart yeah so how did you get it in target at walmart i worked very hard i won a couple of pitch competitions and you know it took me like two years of following up with the buyers to actually get it in well that's what i'm saying so y'all master p reviews you see what i'm saying like to be able to to get product like this in uh in target that's that's incredible because that's hard to do it is so but it start with just going for it people always say well pete you know how you do it i'm like you know you only can hit a home run if you swing most of us afraid to swing so we can't get our product into these stores we already think in our mind we lost we thinking negative is never gonna happen i i don't think like that i'm thinking look i'm about to go get this in here these people need me they need my product and this is what they've been missing and so i mean we talk about african-american games we we've been buying this stuff yeah that's right right that's right so time's gonna change so no thank you like this is this this is beautiful so you're gonna have her on peace reviews yes i'm bringing on peas with you that's what it is you know i want to talk to you about being a parent man like what what do you think hersey and mercy have that you didn't have growing up what what do you think the one fundamental thing is um i think the one fun fundam uh middle thing that i didn't have that hershey and mercy had somebody that supported me the whole way uh spending that time you know because we all have parents but i think time is something you can't get back and uh i've been able to do that with them and and be with them and uh watch them blossom uh put the ball in their hand as a little kid i gave them a little nerf basketball so parents be saying well what you do with your kids i give them a little nerf basketball but i also gave them books i gave them newspapers to read so now they're good students so every time they like that little put trying to shoot online come read this book for me uh come read the newspaper for me so at the same time uh doing some type of math numbers and stuff like that with them because i'm saying if i could teach how to play basketball then i need to be able to educate you at the same time absolutely so i think a lot of people don't realize that that they just think oh i want my kid to be top nba player you know how that's like even for my kids good as they are right now but it's only 400 jobs 10 million people trying to get them that's like hitting the lottery and so everybody thinks they even think about it some of the top players that they have in the draft won't even make it a lot of those guys are in the d league but the g leader so that's what i'm saying preparing us even preparing for failure i tell people all the time you know how many times i feel even that product charlemagne know when i first brought the shoes he was like man what is that i'm like that's all right i'm coming back i'm coming back man look at me now you know what i'm saying and it's like that's what we have to prepare and i think you know me telling my kids that i'm proud of them even if they don't make it to the nba as long as you go to college we good that's right you're going to go and build relationships you're going to do stuff that a lot of people can't do like even with herself right now going to nashville the whole community every corporation every business they want to be a part of what he what he's done because nobody's done it that's a beautiful city stay away from the white girls percy stay away from them there's a lot of beautiful white women in nashville okay let's get going to hbcu yeah yeah and stay on campus okay so it's not a dream of yours to see your son's in the nba you know what i would love that but guess what the dream i'm so happy for them already i think that what because i don't want to put pressure on there's no pressure it's like you got to do this because you love it if if you look at kobe what you think mercy it's going to happen so but you know what i'm not like they got to do this you know because i i want them to know i love it though so this is that's what we want to do so and that's why that's why you know if you're passionate about something uh i i support it but i'm saying though to y'all saying i love y'all like this ain't if you don't make it to the nba i know you're still gonna be successful at something i mean look at the products and all the things you're creating i mean and you're not you're not gonna have to be like every player that got a beat up so when i played with steph curry daddy steph curry used to be around he was a kid but he just loved to shoot like just like these kids they put up 1500 shots a day that's how they get so good but that that means you got to be passionate about it but it still don't mean everybody gonna make it oh what was the guy that uh from out here that was like lebron oh uh lenny um minnie cook lenny cook lenny cook was the the dude out of high school got busy and he never made it so he let the light it up yeah he was more into partying and chilling and hanging and he didn't want to put the work in yeah well you know what i love about my kids they put the work in right after the state championship they were right back in the gym but it's still like like i said i also prepare them for the worst and i think any parent should do that you should do the lenny cook story like a real story i know he did a doc but a real story because it's he busted mello he busted brawn he played against all of them and they all kind of played with each other and out of all of them he was the only one that you know what and that's what that's the part not i'm definitely open to do that but that's the part that people don't realize like what about the ones that didn't do it the right way right and so my thing is to them it's about staying humble and having integrity you got to go somewhere where you got to meet coaches even for me they're not going to do it the way i did it you know i went in there ready to fight with g no whatever like so i'm like go in there and be humble you're going to break that like you don't have to be the loudest person in the room you don't have to keep it real be yourself and so i just think they the way they play hard because of so doing doing the uh state championship game you know some people didn't even know was watching tv but they didn't know that there was my son it was like who number 25 and then number 15. the boys go home like they out the project or something like they hungry and that made me smile because i'm like you know what that's the way you put you know i started out with them charlotte man i used to be hitting them with stuff going to the basket you know what i'm saying like dude go you're gonna the referee might not call the foul you know especially what we play they want to see them lose so to be the number five team in the country high school they always got the x on their back and and they didn't start like that like i said when when they beat the uh sierra canyon team by 20 now people start really because that's what brian played for they start really you know looking at them and you know and it's a process i told them one game could change your life that's right and so that's what basketball is so like like hersey going to tennessee state i mean uh john marant went to what school he wanted to stay yeah murray state so uh oh steph curry went to baylor no davidson davis davis so i'm saying these all mid majors so one game you get to play and they play in a lot of big schools so you know one game to change it all that's right it's just how hard you work and so i just think for me i think as parents don't don't pity your kids teach them hard work and and and you got to put god first our thing is in our house you know and that's that's one thing too i think that once you show your kids you know why you do stuff like i don't do stuff to make money you know i do i do it with a purpose and a passion and i think that when you use your talent you do the right thing you're going continuously getting blessings and so that's what i love about them and that's that's why i'm there with them supporting them you know and i think that's that's the big thing we just got to support our kids if you want to help build the next generation you want to do you know because none of us perfect i look at the stuff that i did wrong and the stuff i did right i'm showing them like look this what you want to do this this is how it go but the stuff that that i had to fix in my life i show them that too you know just like you say with girls you go to the school right now girls gonna be waiting on you them gym's gonna be packed think about it so you gotta choose when you find somebody is right for you and and that's that's that's what you wanna be with so and having respect so i taught them respect respect is so important to where if you got somebody you're in a relationship you respect them even moving on out of that relationship you're going to be all right so i just think with and and you know with now with all the social media you got to know how to survive with social media that's right so i just think that's why the big companies like them because they see that they're on the right track at least they get they they they they're getting a good start i got two more questions is it a requirement for mercy to go to an hbcu nah cause i know you got the university of minnesota off already in yeah he got he got a bunch but you know what my thing is with herself what people don't realize hershey was gonna go to ucla and go to lsu all these big schools but like he said when a coach at tennessee state contacted him he could tell that coach penny was about him right and that's that's what you have to find so when mercy find that same situation whether it's the hbcu you know he get it i mean tennessee state just offered him just offer mercy in the ninth grade wow so in uh hampton in hampton yeah don't go down why do you think we don't celebrate moments like this in our culture more pete because we got two beautiful sons going to college playing in high school ball and what if they chance why we don't celebrate that more because the negative thing is more important like if they was going to prison that would be cool it'd be front line front page news from masterpiece so and uh i think too it's a lot of it's a lot of self-hate man when people see you're successful you're doing the right thing even with me it's like but i don't look at i think that we get our rewards from god that's how i look at it you know our rewards gonna come you know even with my kids i'm teaching them how to bless other people to use your talent to bless other people so we're not looking for to be celebrated i just think that you know we just keep building and doing the right thing and then we could break that barrier because people probably wasn't looking for this to be coming from me with my kids saying okay i want to do something different they only want to do what i like if they was doing music at they age right now they'll be the biggest rappers in the world and everybody hold that masterpiece son and they you know they had glocks in their hands and all that you know what i'm saying but now you got a a book and and you're doing all this math like what's the highest match you're doing in high school now uh i'm in calculus so i'm pretty much the highest right now ap code so wow think about it like i don't even know what that is well it's kind of hard but uh there's like derivatives and stuff and uh calculus is to me it's easy but telling people i guess it's hard but but it's like anything you you got to you have to put the work in you have to study so that's what all school is a lot of people that so they don't know i had to fight because i had good grades i lived in the project so they're like man you got to eight you think you better than me no man i just studied it's just like basketball these kids are good in basketball cause they practice they put the work in we all our whole thing is you don't work you don't eat and for my for my kids to be working the way they work and they don't have to like i ain't getting my kids no call like i told her until you go to college so you want to put the work in and that's what he did yeah people act like being smart is not cool and i don't understand it i want to be a square a rich square that's right and guess what i ain't no tough guy none of that is cool just don't mess with me leave me alone don't mess with my kids you know what i'm saying having businesses they'd be like oh you think you all that cause you starting you doing this i remember so what do you mean that you're supposed to be dumb and stupid like that's cool like you you make money and you can't even count your money like that don't make no sense to me like i i teach my kids you know be polite oh have integrity uh let's get better we we don't know everything technology change every year education change so we got to keep up with that we're not keeping up with the joneses and other people we like you know what and i think too if you put your trust in faith and go you ain't got to worry about that like the haters gonna be there you know what i'm saying and that's why from family members to friends if you don't have nothing don't worry about it because it ain't my fault because think about it if i gave up right now my music could have been over if i didn't do all this other stuff i would i wouldn't be where i'm at right now so you still would be poor and in the project because even the money i gave you the first time you just blew it so you're just looking for me to give you something all the time and then if i don't give it to you mad and angry and upset i'm cool i love all my family my friends but i feel like now i'm gonna help underprivileged kids i'm gonna help the elderly like i'm not just wasting my money on people that think just cause they grew up with me i gotta give them something and so i teach my kids that they we know i mean even though they play basketball they box too they know cause in basketball you might have to scrap so it's like people not gonna take advantage of you knowing that that that you respect them and and you're gonna be the bigger person but you're not about to use me you're not about to take my kindness for weakness that's why i say hold up man product don't [Laughter] that's why you're in the ghetto struggling that's right i you know because think about it my life been like this up and down like when you make money you have a lot of money sometimes then as an entrepreneur it go down you got to figure it out that's right so people was waiting for my downfall but i'm like i'm like instant grits just add this l.a great water and i'm gonna bounce back you know what i'm saying so don't be afraid to feel don't be afraid to bounce back don't you know take these failures like even with my kids you know what made them tough just like you said man they don't even mention my name nobody know who i am i'm going in the gym and work harder i'm going to get better i'm going to get smarter me as as a man growing up i don't need to be the same person i was 25 years ago that's right so it's no growth and i think that's what we have to be on so don't be mad at me because i'm successful i could be toe up and in jail or dead like a lot of my friends it's a church you have your church then you made that bad lying don't be looking at me like it's my fault i'm i just want to be better that's right i want to be able to give and help people that that need it but i'm not giving people that unappreciative people that think that you owe them something i think that's what any artist looking at this or any athlete uh a movie star whatever like you don't owe people nothing but love they say that in the bible and and you can't keep trying to be god me and romeo talk about it all the time even romeo man romeo successful and i love that he humbled and he put god first and that's why he just keep going he keep getting better i mean romeo and business this is a family business everything we got you know is either me or romeo coming up with it or the boys and we work together as a family and i like that romeo just be chilling like he not worried about what somebody think about him or whatever doing the right thing because it's easy to do the wrong thing it's easy to pick up a gun kill somebody and it's over with where you think you're going you're going to prison and i just look at a lot of these artists man i'm going to tell you my favorite artist right now it's crazy that uh if you look at from young boy uh to dirk although i like all those guys but one that really stand out to me is uh polo g oh yeah i'm gonna tell you why i think polo g if he had a right management if he was with me he would be the biggest artist in the world because he could cross over you got the number one album in the country right now right a song number one song gonna come man polo g to me be honest with you like you could feel his music like he you could feel that he have a soul so you don't have to be the toughest guy in the world and i think that's what made my career mm-hmm so i think i think that you got to have a soul even though you come from the streets and you've been through the struggle and the pain i think that his music is is is appealing to that and i think i wish him the best i think that he's one that's going to go a long way all right well peter it's always a pleasure when you come man it's just so much free jewelry yeah and hersey and mercy we're rooting for y'all don't let anybody trick you all out position there's haters out there who don't want to see you succeed who mad your daddy and romeo been out here succeeding all these years so stay focused young kings the devil work hard but god works harder thank you all for joining us yes sir good morning [Music] you
