was Saturday night yeah anyway it's one of those like the last night was Tifton Georgia and it was guy Penrod I got to see all my old buddy guy who I haven't seen in a while the Martins and the needle ins and that was a fun night I don't get to mix and mingle like that much it's usually just me and a stool and the microphone and I enjoyed that too of course but it was so much fun getting to hang out with them and talk to God I said guy and I said on the bus and we talked about God for a while and he loves he loves the Lord I love talking to you okay what I think I promote everything I need to promo the spring fling crew look around the channel I there I've done it all and so it's time for my guests sandy Peggy and Don pistolas her sweet husband but before we come on bring them on I want to bring Sandhya around us sing with me and Andrew Grier tis so sweet to trust in Jesus [Music] I love this so much Jesus precious Jesus [Music] with me Jesus Jesus Jesus Jesus precious Jesus for grace to trust in a more zeal for grace Oh to trust [Music] oh my goodness gracious there they let me read there they are hi Sandy and Dawn hey that sounded pretty good big man how about one yet if we weren't retired we could take that on the road no we're retired from the road how are y'all doing tonight good welcome to our backyard let's get it hey dumb lean over to your right a little bit squeeze I note there you go now I got both your heads in the picture Hey oh so this is your backyard where you doing your live bro tell them about your live broadcasts which I hope you will continue we a few a couple months ago we did a live pot there like a videocast I don't even know what to call it right and we thought we were just the bomb but apparently we had started and we were talking sideways for like 20 minutes are you well that's right because you can't start them once you've started if you start like this you cannot change it well we know that now and so anyway he got snarky about it or something and said I got this Cindy and I said watch it Dan and so instead of Don and Sandy we started calling each other Dan and Cindy which apparently started hashtagging the Dan and Cindy Cindy with an i oh yes Cindy see is it CY NDI well it could be no but I see IND I see IND no we know we had 10 ten good minutes mark of just my 10 minutes of that pouring her heart out really crass nicely pressure that we have this crazy idea that we'll start doing sunsets with Dan and Cindy that hey I'd watch it an RV come on yeah you want you out you telling me today y'all want to get an RV now you've had a bus why wouldn't you get a bus because students it yeah and you know what this this RB the one we're looking at the sprinter mark is it's smaller its agile it's hostile its mobile its all those things it can it can park in our children's parking lot yes right whatever that's really the bottom line because you've got eight children now spread out all over yeah we have Florida Tennessee Indiana Los Angeles and Oklahoma yeah so you just want to go from child to child and with good thing you had a because you can only abuse one for a short period that's right before you have to be done yeah they can only take us for so long no we we we love our kids and I think like us although they were a little if they were genuinely embarrassed by Dan and Cindy we thought that was a good thing well you know sandy I mean I first met you or of course I heard of you I want to go back to the first time I heard you it was 1980 it was of the GMA and Bill Gaither drugged you he had some afternoon event or something and he had you come up and he kind of introduced you I believe maybe it was even earlier than 80 but it was somewhere around there yeah and you were singing we shall behold him yes and slaying everybody let's talk about that song for just a second yeah there's a career song for you wouldn't you say it is one of those songs I mean of course I love Dottie Rambo I mean and I've always been very mindful that when someone offers you their song it's like they're offering you their child exactly yes mm-hmm and she always said to me mark she always said thank you for taking my baby and dressing her up so pretty it's a truth it is the truth you know it it was yeah it was a an unexpected song matey really but I was on the road with Bill and Gloria and they let me sing that night after night after now in front of their audiences and as you saw it just seemed to connect with people oh yeah did you not have any idea that it would no it was actually Gloria's idea she heard it recorded she said you know I'm gonna tell bill you need to sing that on our tour are you serious uh-huh you owe Gloria you know don't worry let's talk about Gloria minutes I mean don't you love her yeah I love how just mmm-hmm I watched her night after night after night craft stories bring us into like you could begin to like taste what she was talking about and smelled yes the cinnamon you know rolls with the middle one that everybody wanted like you could just right she's just an amazing storyteller whether it's telling a story or telling it with lyrics in a song do you think that you learned a lot how many years were you with the Gaither group or on the road I was there I think it was five or six years okay you were there that's a good bit of time and yeah you mainly sing backup at first and then bill would pull you out for we should behold him I presume yeah like that the last couple of I also did the little stick with jesus loves me where I'd sit at the piano and start you know as a kid and then grow up so I would do that well you do strides in and caring yeah and all that give me a little bit of which one's easy as Karen der strasse in well have you how long has it been since you've done this mm it's been a while like Streisand is just so it's all about the straight tone you know and so I would use Jesus loves me yes and then sing it like Strahan yes so so that instead of little children him belong it's a little people yeah and it was on your live CD your first live CD yeah which I'm wonderful yes that is one of the greatest CDs ever I really mean it I mean it was so thrilling and it was it was a crab surrender yeah of course yeah it was an 8-track cassette now so let me run through some questions that some people out today on Facebook I asked people if they would just want to ask you something that this is your chance okay and let's see okay here's a good one Julie döner diee and they are I think it's dinner said hi sandy your stellar career is obvious and loved worldwide you are the best of the best but I want to ask you if you could do anything at all and no you couldn't fail Tom what would it be that's a great context for questions you said mark asks I asked the people that a few weeks ago because I think that's a great question if you knew you couldn't fail Don same thing for you if you need what would you do now at this stage like for a you know just for a season or whatever did it's not things okay you go dancing with the stars and Hello Dolly on Broadway Oh Lord from your lips to God's ears I would go for that last I don't know about I don't know how good you can dance but I would love to see you honestly are you good I never have but anyway I would love that okay now let's see another one see you oh yeah good questions go ahead get them all done in a minute I would have probably played played college football at a d1 and impro done both you wouldn't but but but I mean it's too late for that right right okay what from probably the same answer yeah you know what uh that's funny cuz I'm doing markets I got to think about it but I'm I'm doing exactly what I want to do I am so so happy pastoring doing what I'm doing it's like I got my bucket list given back to me some but I'm I mean it I love I love people most of the most days yeah and I love you know I'm getting to lead the church like I grew up in so honestly other than other than singing with our family more I love that's probably my greatest joy is getting on that bus with our family and kids and I'll Drive it and she can take care of the grandkids and let's go sing a little bit I'd I'd love to do that more but man I'm I'm blessed Misha said no golf do you like to go on Senior PGA to play this thing you to lean toward sandy a little bit so they say your heart I'm sorry about this guy's is this app but other than that this app is incredible okay yes they'd let us do too anyway it's too much to comment okay Susan Norwood says sandy if she has ever record oh no no no we don't that's that okay hi mark can you have sandy and Susan I'll explain later can you have sandy which gospel singers influenced her the most [Music] that's my parents for sure mm-hmm but my parents okay for sure yeah but then Evie and Andre crouch were my high school okay Oh totally my high school and you believe we know her now why no when I met her for the first time I'm like you don't understand like no and she and I are the same age but I think because she was like 16 and 17 when she was seeing ya she seemed older and now like we're friends like wheat stalks right me too sandy he is just precious and she is and and her husband is wonderful but you know she she preceded you even though you the three of us are really all the same age pretty close she preceded you in her career and you preceded me I heard you at the that LA outdoor theatre thing that huge what every week yes Dana my friend Dina and I saw there and I remember sitting there thinking I wish she knew my name because I'd never told anybody that because it's kind of weird but I did think it and now we do okay now you do I love you let's talk about the first time we met I was thinking about that so Estes Park exactly yeah it was yeah I was hosting the morning thing right right and you were a new artist oh yeah unheard-of and I remember yeah I introduced you and just tried to make you feel at home so then you got up and I said thank you Amy for that wonderful introduction your first album my father's eyes is still my favorite and then I said are y'all ready to rock and roll they went yeah that's a tough I don't do that and then I went into as I remember exactly what that did cuz that was a pivotal moment for me I'm telling you I hadn't laughed that hard in a really long time like my belly was hurting and I've told you this before but I might of peed my baby well I'm honored it was such a thrill because you took my face in your hands afterwards it encouraged me you know one thing I love about you let me just say this while I'm thinking about it I saw you do that - Andrew Grier when you were over to our dinner conversations that day I watched you encourage really everybody it but now remember you really poured into him and I don't even know if he you know I'm sure you noticed it but I noticed it and you do that a lot do you make an effort to like scan the room and find the person in there who not Andrew would be that person but my friend Peggy Campolo does that she scans the room and finds the least the ones yeah nobody would talk to probably there yeah and that's what I gonna find to go hug really definitely I believe it uh my mom though she always she would always take us her hands like this so that she could have even for 10 seconds our full attention and she would say you know do you know that I love you today yeah or whatever it might be short she'll say and how important is bad I know what it's meant to me sure so oh yeah I mean I didn't forget it that day and how many years ago is that 1988 you know but anyway okay so let's see this if there's any more questions what oh here's one I thought several people asked in so many different ways like Diane DeWitt Thank You Diane and Jennifer and Malone both of these on separate questions said is do you have a favorite of like if you had to pick one song to sing to the world that you a favorite of and I know it's hard to pick a favorite it's like asking like you said which is your favorite child which I intend every parent has a favorite they just won't admit it but maybe not I got nothing you got nothing even on the song we're like pleading pleading the fifth yeah you love them all but do you really like them no we'll get to that later what song would you be pick for if you of my music or of all music your favorite of all of them of your music okay I mean they're clear-cut they come in seasons but one that I go back to all the time is his eyes on the sparrow called it did you really done yeah you thought so too huh no question that's probably that would be you know what when she's really giving her you'd say her testimony when you say a song just sums up why she sings and what's the joy the Lord about and what's her song and the gift and it's all there and it's just sandy it's just it's it's not Sandi patty if you will it's just sandy yes the song oh yeah really yeah it's really yeah okay having a fake Diane Turner like to know a favorite pass your scripture that helped you get through life challenges yeah I have mine you go some I know proverbs 3:5 and 6 okay cuz I will say God show us the way but then we don't want to do our part to make that well quote it what is it I forgot so trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge him then he will direct your path hmm but so often we want him to direct our path but he's given a sort of a prescription of how to recognize his back when it comes hmm so that's why I like that one that's a good one yeah I'm read five and six that's like you a scripture you know I really love I've been reading a lot of the message lately and I really love his message is so good and but Romans 12:1 and 2 in the message I love that and this isn't necessarily to get I through a rough time but it's like I'm in this I want my days my daily days to count and I want just my every day's to count you know and oh I know we will with swatting them but it just says just take your everyday ordinary lives you know and that's our that's our offering that's our sacrifice it's just life I guess you got a Lucy Swindall said life is so daily mmm you know and so I want my daily days to count as our sacrifice you know it says you're going in you're coming out you're going just your daily days so I love that Roman so I wanted you from the mess from the mess really good I tell you the message just turned me upside down because I've kept you late if all you independent Baptists like Iraq was raised late by the King James don't let it offend you go get you a message Bible and just lay rubber like for instance you know that scripture that says come unto me all who are weary and heavy-laden yes and I will give you rest don't you love it in the message where it says are you tired worn out down on religion come to me get away with me and you'll recover your life I'll show you how to take a real rest won't work with me what time and I love this line learn the unforced rhythms of grace that yes that the unforced rhythms of grace you only put the whole thing that's good are you tired worn out burned out on religion come to me get away with me and you'll recover your life I'll show you how to take a real rest walk with me work with me watch how I do it learn the unforced rhythms of grace I'll not put anything too heavy or ill-fitting with on you yeah keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly I love that been that beautiful that's really get it so bad it's so good that's the Jesus I want to know better don't you yes absolutely yeah I love what restaff said he said if your Jesus is a condemning Jesus you need to fire him you got the wrong one amen who said that Russ Taff oh I do yeah Yeah right absolutely okay so tell me you got how many how many got eight kids you blended this these two families and it and you blended it like how many years ago 23 23 we just celebrated our 23rd anniversary yeah congratulations so we had I have four Don had three we adopted our youngest one okay 11 years old on dam 11 seven seven seven six five three and then we brought the baby baby shame into it six months in a watery three one more couldn't hurt is that what you were thinking watch you're outnumbered at three it doesn't even matter right right so now they're 33 what's the ages 33 well I'd go 33 but it's 34 it's an even year cuz I just give him all the birthday she drives her crazy nobody learns he tried now you know 34x I until right now 34 30 30 30 29 so Ali's odd this year 28 26 - what did you say sandy well they're gonna start texting going I know those are not birthday when I'm 34 yet twins turning November so I just give everybody a birthday in November well that's good you know well listen I am can you sit oh you got a book sandy you got a booger day because that we really we got some real distortion going on right now with Skype and I don't know why but yeah sandy and it's called the voice and what is that like what does that book about that voice you you know a number of years ago the record company thought I needed a brand so they said hey how about the voice and I always found that a bit ironic for myself because I just never felt like I had a voice and not talking about my singing voice I'm talking about learning to speak up and speak out right and so just even as a kid I was drawn to music that's the lyrics because I was here a song I mean one in particular I remember what's up I've got confidence right right and I think I wonder what that feels like they have confidence so maybe if I learned that song if I sing it I can become it so music has always been my voice and I think in the last probably 25 or 30 years I ask God just began to heal some broken places in my heart I've been more comfortable not hiding just behind a song but in order to speak my heart and speak it without having to use a song and so I've been able to nothing it's really a reflection but it isn't the book really is a reflection of God's faithfulness in my life through the really tough times through the hard times I didn't understand I mean I celebrated a lot of people think just you know you're Sandi patty you shouldn't have tough times well everybody has tough times you know and and and even though you had some big tough ones about 23 25 years ago you've had a lot since then too right yes right a family of eight you know eight kids and just learning to navigate teenage world and adult world and how to be is how to be a good parent to adult children right to make their own choices and how do you walk with them and just you know we just we celebrate our beautiful bruised wounded broken family in great and everybody's you know when you when we finally realize we're all a pack of freaks just trying to find our way home and our and our big brother the Lord Jesus has come for us and all we got to do is try to keep up yeah but really we don't even have to try if we follow he'll pick us up and carry us I love that but he's gonna get us home if it kills right so I tell people a lot the older I get the more I've learned and the more I've learned the less I know but what I know really really really really know and I wonder if we woke up every morning and really knew how much God loves us with that change who we feel who we are hmm I'm edit has been life-changing for me hmm to learn to really realize or you've only heard that entrust in it yeah and didn't know it back on days when maybe my day hasn't been so great right that's got it Hill right there loving me yeah yeah mark I teach beginning and Tana at our church oh it's my favorite thing I've done in a long time really and it's for adults who are like choir and all that and so I said this a couple of weeks ago but it is so true so I tell them listen really all you need to learn is middle C if you can find the C's you can always sign your way home and the thing about that is if we can find who Christ really in ROM his word we will always find our way out oh that's good that's really good and you know what I've learned as I age that I'm 60 now and he's just a lot nicer than they ever told me he is kind and long-suffering and patient and yeah I mean all those words that we've almost said so much they've lost their impact you know yeah yeah and stay closer than a brother all that all that yeah yeah yeah I love you guys dawn so your pet do you actually preach on Sunday I do the music mostly but I preach in the chapel my little congregations about 500 so contact yeah okay we have it our church home it's called crossings Community Church in Oklahoma City right under our roof of crossings Community Church we have a sanctuary service its choir and orchestra we have it's called the venue service which is a band and a little more contemporary driven and then we have a chapel service which is traditional with some liturgy in and so babs dawn does the music for that and it is Jeff so the first Sunday he said so those books they say okay we get that book out and we it's a book of songs and we the self told a hymnal yeah so you know in the liturgy you know I did I used to be has a beautiful liturgy the Book of Common Prayer so it's really you know what I like to call it it's evangelistic you know what don't apologize for that at all ever because that's our love it we take communion every we celebrate the table every week mark and that special but it's much like the church I grew up in but with the liturgy makes it it's just really wonderful so it's really a bucket list thing for me again to be doing this I just heard a sermon from Jonathan Martin not of the Martins but Jonathan okay Jonathan a Martin is his name pastored a church in Charlotte but he was talking about how he is and now he's not there anymore but he's at that church but he's really appreciating the liturgy the the farm and how Dallas Willard talked about how you've got to form your life in your yes you know and even if you don't feel like it if you just keep doing it that it really for you yeah it informs our practice and that's really what liturgy means mark it means the work of the people so that's really it's not something it takes even in its definition it takes it takes all of us you know weekly to practice that together so yeah there's a real rhythm to it yeah see yeah and you can't really can't do it you can read it by yourself but you can't practice it really alone can you it's more of a community community is it's so about being together in community - it is when I was raised energy for me was Easter Christmas and Gaither you know what I mean that was my liturgy growing up yeah me too man and we never we never did the the Creed you know I belong I like the Creed yeah air and communion those those anchor right that's been the things in between but the anchors that you come back to there very sure you know all design I like what Peterson says this again we talked about the message and Peterson says and it's all designed not that we find God in our story and we so often look mark for God in our lives right but the bigger context is that we find ourselves written in God's story and when did I cover so that's a Peterson quote about liturgy that there's the rhythm and that's really finding experiencing ourselves in God's greater story and context so there's a real rhythm to it that I I was surprised I mean when I took that service I thought man you guys know I'm like mr. Sunday night I'm the last guy that should be taking the liturgy service I know but I mean I love the old Sunday night services - we used to have with this thing either okay now listen I've got to ask you this sandy you've retired according to the final farewell tour right from the road that's not what we're gonna clear sandy has retired from the road sandy has not retired from spreading the gospel and you know and she's gonna do it a new way find out a way to be around those grandkids more and find a way to travel with that husband and just I just have fun and sing what I want to like I love some of the opportunities that come lately to start speaking more yeah so you know it's time to share what you know you know I mean to pass it down to someone guy Penrod and I were talking about that I would love to go and teach something teach young people but the only thing I really think I could teach them would be what to say between the tracks or how to talk not or not yes yeah in that the truth yeah something what if you went to a whole night of sandy Patty and you just sang I might as well stay home and play the record right you know you got it dad but and yet you don't want you set up to tell you everything about the song yes no you don't want to say this next song says Amazing Grace how sweet the sound I mean sing it or quote it we don't have to hear it twice yes we don't have to do both but a good story a good story is a good way to say a song I think I'm I'm looking for my favorite poem that I want to maybe closest with oh that's good but talk a minute well let's see forgotten akaki let me look at the comment do you think you could come to Tucson sometime now let's not that answer no I pray I don't know we might you know you just never know but thank you for asking given that little under and go no - yeah Misha Eman wants to know you touring in Canada or England soon Sandy's not touring anymore and I if you go to mark Lowry calm slash tour that's where you can find out that's what I have to do and after this I don't know go look at my website I don't know that's what you got is it true yeah but there's a and so we would like a handful yeses to do a concert or yeah and try to include this our kids now and we didn't talk about in residence well at the church I'm artisan right now that's a big Gmail and you're the artists and residents at at the crossings you know what she does smart is that what you talked about in and I'll talk about her it's so fun to see the young the young worship leaders that will come by you know we literally office right next to each other so it's awesome you know here I didn't come by the young cripples and they'll spend time and you know what that's exactly what she's doing and pouring into their lives and sometimes it's big heavy talk so sometimes it's just hanging or sometimes it's just you know reminding them when they have young kids have mom Misha and they won't remember but that's a you know it's fun to watch her at that stage it's fun you know it's fun to watch through these twenty thirty years but it's a fun you know what it's it's a great stage now to being what you said and you need to be doing that too more yeah yeah because you do it so well and you you you you you know laughter it's such a great medicine and you do that the timing of that but then you know that mary did you know hello well you know i'm not neither one of us are done your nose you know Frank Sinatra quit about five times yeah yeah I'm not doing that alright let's hear your poem so this is by Feherty sale okay it's called wisdom when I have seats to break my wings against the saltiness of things and learn the compromises way behind each hardly open gates when I've looked lies in the eyes grown calm and very coldly wise life will have given me the truth and taken in exchange my youth oh yeah father time wins Dana yeah I love being sixty don't you I mean I don't know what the big deal is I think that's a run how do you feel that's right I feel fantastic I've got a little bit arthritis in this thumb right here yeah do you have any yet don't ask him he look like healthy of he had I yeah well but you know I can deal with that I was thinking the other day I good knows this the beginning it burns just like a hot poker in there nothing okay Lord is this the beginning of everything falling apart but I thought hey you know it's just gonna happen yeah that's right and I love it I love the journey isn't it great in the journey fantastic the journey it's all about the journey don't miss the trip that's what I tell ya yep yeah that's what I tell those gentle people and what you're worrying about with your kids with your career it ain't it ain't gonna happen do the things that I worried about that you know that other shoe falling that someone's gonna find out I really can't sing and I'm really not that funny and Bill Gaither doesn't really need a baritone I mean I've always had that shoe hanging over my head it ever happened yeah don't worry about things at all I love gallop I love Paul Young who wrote The Shack yeah yeah he wrote a blog years ago you probably still find it it's called future tripping and I've talked a lot about this but future is brilliant and how he says worry is like because that future tripping you're going on a trip but but you're doing it in your mind you're feeling the same emotion as if you're actually living it yeah it's not really happening and you're the only God their God will not go with you to a place that doesn't exist yeah they met something so so here you are wearing and trying to fix it having labor laborious breathing and you and then you and and you're still feeling it as if you're living it Wow so I quickly and that was eases habit I ever broke just I mean literally I recently I just quit I mean I start every time I wear I think that's not happening I'm not going there and because there because there is no god but me there and I don't want to be in any place where I'm the God right good I had a dish I added this to that thought God will not worry with you about your past or wallow with you oh no he would not wallow with you in your past or worry with you about your future because God will not go to a place that doesn't exist yeah that hmm and he is the great I am not the great I will be or the great I was he is only in the now yeah in that cool and you're sweeping you can sweep it under the blood you can sweep it under the rug but you gotta sweep it somewhere and if you sweep it under that blood you can forget about it you know that's free yeah I'm a recovering fundamentalist I think that's true but I'm not totally sure yeah I love you guys thank you for being my guest here tonight you're good yeah you've got to come out to
