morning good morning house of hope with atlanta this morning is the first sunday in october and this is the month that we'll be celebrating our more than pink campaign this sunday we'll be celebrating our breast cancer awareness my name is maxine alexander and i am a two-year survivor of breast cancer [Applause] when god chose me to take this journey i knew with all my heart that i would be able to get through this will you join me in the word of prep father in the name of jesus we come this morning to tell you thank you thank you for allowing us to get through this journey father i want to thank you for my sisters and brothers that is going through this journey and i want you to give them the strength to be able to endure this journey you make no mistakes when you put this on us so i want you to know that we are grateful for the doctors that you put in place all the healthcare leaders and i'd like for you to know that in the name of jesus we thank our children we thank our families and loved ones and we ask that you continue to strengthen us when we're weak in the mighty name of jesus amen our scripture today will be taken from romans 8 18 and 28 from the new american standard version for i consider that suffering for this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us and we know that god causes all things to work together for the good to those who love god to those who are called according to his purpose house of hope family whatever you are going through whatever you have been through and whatever you're about to go today is breast cancer awareness sunday come on i need you to make some noise in your living room and so if you're a survivor of breast cancer what i need you to do is put this in the chat i know now make some noise in the house for all of our cancer survivors hallelujah listen we gotta move on it's more than peak month make some noise in this month we are raising awareness around those who have survived cancer lupus domestic violence and infant loss and so this is a very important month for us and this month we've chosen to highlight survivors and thrivers and on behalf with that being the glory well this is the day the lord has made and we're here to rejoice and be gladding that we've come to the first sunday uh in this month of october this is breast cancer we're in the sun then we just want to thank god as pastor carter said all of the survivors you know we've seen so much loss over the past year i mean hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of lives uh that are no longer with us and we honor their memories those who are no longer here whether we through covet or cancer but we want to pause to celebrate and thank god for those who have made it and so every breast cancer survivor come on shout yourself out you know one shout them out in the comments we want to make it that you you know that we love you and we're here for you and if you're watching today and you are you're in need of assistance i want to not just shout out those who deal with cancer and uh had another case of cancer in my immediate family that we're dealing with now just finally about it and uh and we're praying uh even now for every person who's battling cancer now and i just want you to know that god is a healer amen do y'all believe that god is a healing god god is a healer and i want to i want to declare that over your life and whether they cover the cancer god is a healer he was wounded jesus was for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with the stripes of jesus you and i can be healed and i want you know that we're here for you we're praying for you even now those names that are scrolling on the screens now we're praying my heart has been broken um again of course we had last week we buried minister dorothy watkins and uh and uh just and we've had one of my staff members who've been with me 12 years tavares wilson uh contracted covert a few years a few weeks ago and he passed away and so i'm just really really really really really down by that he's been had my back for all these years and when he wasn't 50 years old and so praying for his wife and his children what what what what uh uh blow uh so we're praying for the wilson family and the more families and uh uh just just tough it's just tough on your boy right now i can't lie uh i'm always i'm always the person they're trying to give people faith and hope and i and i am a person of faith i'm a person of hope but i can't lie death is painful it is i can't lie to you and uh it is painful um tavares was a heck of a staff member here with us and uh his beautiful wife and children um seen him coach those those balls in football we just our last conversation uh was about the season and his son and i'm just uh just heartbroken today but i um uh but i do i do know that we saw not as others who have don't have hope amen so we we we know that that we do have hope and we do have hope and that hope is in our lord and our savior jesus christ and and i want you to know that we're here for you and uh and if you need some help you can get prayer our pastor our first lady emerita mrs ivory colin shepard she's uh 92 she's resting with at home and let's keep her lifted during this time she joined our church when a husband came in this month of october pastor shepard was elected pastor october 27 1957 and that's when she came with him and they were married in december of 1957 that same year and so october 57 is when they came to this ministry and we're still covering and still providing and taking care of her today so we love her amen y'all shot mrs shepard out in the comments and all the other names on our sick list we're still praying uh for the family minutes dorothy watkins who we buried last week and we're praying for tavares's family leon wright's family uh praying for them we're praying for uh even now we're praying for dick and paul paul harper uh and henrietta harper and melvin phillips as they bear their sister janice and we just had that funeral a few days ago so we've had a lot going on but we know that god promises that we won't be comfortless he promised to send us another comforter amen and so these ministers are available to help you during this time so right quick i want to just we're going to go and uh have a pick up right quick and uh lift my spirits a little bit i've been kind of melancholic a little bit but all this death um i've had to preach probably 50 funerals this year and it kind of gets kind of gets heavy and i can't lie but we're going to go right to our hope happenings and i'm sure that corey and crystal have some kind of some kind of foolishness uh cooked up for us to anointed as jasmine is she's not here entertaining us this morning uh she's been under attack the enemy's been trying to kill her in the past few weeks she knows what the power is uh it's in the name of jesus some of the stuff she's going through the past couple of weeks could have taken her out uh but she has one whose name oh and that that name demons flee in trouble somebody typed in a compact jesus jesus oh you you'll keep he'll keep it he'll keep the plane from crashing he'll keep the car from wrecking somebody attacked jesus jesus jesus hallelujah we give god the praise i don't know what you're standing either but i dare you to type that name there's only one name of the heavens without men and women lords and girls may be saved and that's the name of jesus that we give him the glory [Music] give me honor we give him the praise come on shout hallelujah my mama shout she shall shout jesus glory to god glory to god glory to god i said something about that name something about that name something about that name lord have mercy we give you glory father we bless you we honor you oh thank you for the power and the deliverance that's in that name and we glorify you and we honor you and we give you the glory now may this worship continue to be christ centered we want to see you as isaiah saw you high and lifted up and we give you the glory we give you the honor and we give you the praise now my father bless us during this time give me power to proclaim your word in jesus name amen and certainly we thank god for his blessings and for being such a good and kind and a favorable god and i on the lord for you you and you god is so good to us and we thank god for his presence i don't know about you but if you're thankful just type that in comments i'm thankful today i'm thankful i'm thankful today i am so thankful that we give god the glory the honor and the praise again to every survivor of breast cancer to those who are battling cancer right now i want you know that he is jehovah rophie he's jehovah raphaca and everything you need out god is a great great healer my heart uh has been kind of heavy the past couple of days and uh one of my family members was recently diagnosed with cancer very close in the family and uh and so this month means more to me uh now and i'm praying that god's going to meet and speak to the hearts of those of you who are dealing with cancer not just that those of you who are caregivers come on let's give a hand and some emojis in the chats and praying hands and claps of all those who are caregivers of those who are dealing with cancer even now uh let's pray that god's grace is going to be sufficient and supply their needs as well and maybe your bound is not cancer and but everybody has some kind of battle and if that's you today i want you know that god is a prayer hearing and a prayer answering god that's a passage that i want to share with you today is from the book of isaiah i've been asking god to give me uh something uh to to to share with you today and there's a passage in the book of isaiah and it's isaiah chapter 59 of the book of isaiah if you have isaiah chapter 59 and i want to come down to the end of that 19th verse of isaiah 59 and uh with an appropriate passage for this cancer awareness month isaiah 59 and we have isaiah 59 the end of verse number 19. let me read in verse verse number 19 here's what verse 19 says it says so shall they fear the name of the lord from the west and his glory from the rising of the sun here's the key part i want to share when the enemy shall come in like a flood the spirit of the lord shall lift up a standard against him when the enemy shall come in like a flood the spirit of the lord shall lift up a standard against him i want to talk for a few moments from this thought making it through your mess making it through your mess as i said earlier one of my family members has been diagnosed uh with cancer that's been spreading rapidly through the anatomy and when i was able to have a conversation after hearing about the diagnosis that diagnosis the first thing they said to me was i never thought i'd be in this mess not at this time and not at this age and i'm sure there are some of you who are watching right now who wondered how in the world did i get in some messes in life uh because mess this does not be cancer mess can be a challenge with your finances a mess can be a challenge in your relationships a mess can be a challenge in your own mind and emotions and really in a real sense this is what was happening uh for the nation of israel they found themselves similarly in a mess i mean whoever would have thought the nation of israel would be in the mess the darling after god's own eye being in a mess the one who got it the ones to whom god had made the promise that he multiplied their seed as the stars of heaven and the ones who he promised that he would allow them to multiply and spread like sea sand on the seashore for them to be in the mess the one that he promised even to abram before he became abraham that he would send the messiah through his own seed and yet the nation of israel at the time of our text finds themselves in a mess because of their apostasy and their hypocrisy because they turn their backs on god they find themselves in a serious mess it was a mess that had begun in 605 bc when pharaoh nico ii in egypt had been run out of egypt by that chaldean warrior whose name was nebuchadnezzar that mess continued in 597 and 596 bc then the reigns of kings jehoiachin and jehoiakim when nebuchadnezzar came as the son of nabi palassa and took jews into a place called babylon that mess uh actually was cemented in four minutes in 586 bc when nebuchadnezzar came back and took thousands of jews away from the land of the nativity burned the temple there in jerusalem and burned the walls of the city israel is now in a mess like none other than such a mess that they've been carried away for 70 years of a messy situation in babylon so heinous and so debilitating were the conditions in babylon that one psalmist wrote later on by the rivers of babylon there we set when we remembered zion we hung our harps upon the willows thereof because those ancient babylonians were mocking our faith and asking us to sing the song that we used to sing back in jerusalem that psalmist said it was so difficult it was so hard it was so antagonistic that my response was how can we sing the lord's song in a strange land the nation of israel finds themselves in a mess and yet while they're in a mess god send the prophet isaiah to prophesy about the reality of that babylonian mass god sends isaiah the prophet the most eloquent of the hebrew prophets to remind them and inevitably remind us that no matter what messy situation you find yourselves in that you can make it through your mess and if there's a person today we're wearing cancer a pink in your honor there's a person who's struggling today with covet 19 struggling with your own consciousness whatever your mess is today there's a word from the lord god spoke to isaiah and he speaks to you and the word is this in verse 19 of chapter 59 when the enemy shall come in like a flood the spirit of the lord shall lift up a standard against him first of all isaiah talks here about if you're going to make it through your mess you got to understand what he calls what i want to call the absolute certainty of the mess look what he says he said he says when notice he does not say if he says when notice he does not say maybe he says when when it is an absolute certainty i think that's a reality even for the people of god we have to understand the importance of when just because you are a child of god or a part of the darling of god's eye does not exempt you from the wind it is not maybe it is not perhaps it is when there is an absolute certainty job said that a man who's born of a woman is of a few days and those few days are full of trouble when paul says we endure hardness as good soldiers win peter says all of us who live god in christ jesus shall suffer persecution when jesus says in this world you shall have trials and tribulations but be of good cheer i've already overcome the world when it's an absolute certainty when not a homily when not a simile when not metaphorically when not figuratively when not imaginatively when not hyperbolically when not hypothetically when not imaginatively when not paradoxically when literally there is the absolute uncertainty so i don't get who you are or how big the bible is you told or how many scriptures you can quote into each life some rain will fall and that's why we got to gird ourselves because the enemy is like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour he says when and so if cancer has called your number it's just your win if you happen to be a caregiver it's just your win if you're having to deal with fluctuating emotions in an unstable economy it's just your win and you ought to be encouraged that god is even with you in your win and so understand that just because you're in a difficult time peter says thinking not strange my beloved concerning the fiery trials which are try you as some though some strange thing happened to you things happen in life because if we can't suffer with him now we won't be able to reign with him later on and so when you're gonna make it through your mess when that's absolute certainty but not only is that the absolute certainty of the mess secondly notice the adversary who causes the mess he says when absolute certainty hit us the enemy the enemy for these ancient of jews uh of course was babylon and nebuchadnezzar nobody was as gifted nobody was as strong in battle as nebuchadnezzar was and he's come against him oh to metaphorically make them make brick without straw uh for you and i we have to deal with our own nebuchadnezzar oh god the nebuchadnezzar of spiritual wickedness in high places the nebuchadnezzar of demons that have been sent from hell the nebuchadnezzar of generational dysfunctions the nebuchadnezzar nebuchadnezzar of dysfunctional realities in our lives there is a real enemy it was the uh the sixth century bc philosopher zoriasta who suggested that there is a duality and an equality between the forces of good and evil i want you to know that there's a real enemy i know we live in anti-faith anti-spirited society but brother and sister there's a real demonic force that's at loose in the earth and you can't sense the earth groaning right now that even right now don't you ever get so educated don't you ever get so disconnected that you don't realize there's a real demonic enemy who's trying to seek to devour us and so there is an enemy there is an enemy and so sometimes when even the enemy is raging please understand it was the job who went through a situation when god gave the enemy permission to attack job and i want to say to you as you're watching that when the enemy comes to attack you note that the enemy can't do anything to you unless god allows it or god authorizes it sometimes god will allow what i want to call a case of divinely permitted satanic antagonism where god will lease the enemy and the enemy thinks he's there for your destruction but in the reality he's there for your development there is a win there's the absolute certainty but then there's also the adversary who causes your mess when the enemy but not only when the absolute certainty the enemy the adversary who causes it but notice the the agony and the chaos there's agony and chaos of a mess it's right here in this verse when the enemy his agony and chaos shall come in like a flood all the flood waters here is a reference to the demonic the flood waters here are a reference uh to destruction and what he says is the enemy metaphorically can come in like a flood to destroy your life please understand last month the gulf coast was hit with the hurricane on the anniversary of katrina 16 years later to the day another hurricane came through the gulf coast and parts of new orleans and parts of the gulf coast are still underwater right now but here's what i want you to understand it was not the storm that made a mess in katrina it was not the hurricane itself but it was the flood waters that came after the storm what god said to me and i want to say it with you today it's not the storm that's going to determine your growth or your trajectory or your destruction but it is how you manage after the storm has subsided no it's not the the divorce is not going to take you out but it's what you do after you've gone through it the breakup can't take you out but it's your state of mind because what happened in new orleans uh lord have mercy and even in parts of new jersey and philadelphia in new york many insurance companies have tricked people to pay for insurance but they had one stipulation you don't have no flood insurance we'll take care of anything unless it's a flood but can i share something with you today if you are a child of god you already have flood insurance you already have something that can hold you you got the blessed assurance that he'll give you insurance to keep the in the middle of the floods i want to share with somebody who's watching uh don't let the aftermath of the storm take you out just because mama died does not mean you got to spend the rest of your life in agony and pain stand up and hold your head up and say it's not going to take me out because i can handle the flood and so there's the absolute certainty of the mess there's the adversary who causes the mess but then there is the agony and chaos of the mess but there's one more thing i got to tell you that bless my life not only the absolute certainty that when the adversary who causes the enemy the absolute certainty shall come in like a flood but notice the actions that the anointing that helps us to conquer the anointing that helps us to conquer he says when the enemy shall come in like a flood don't y'all make me run i ran this morning it says the spirit of the lord shall lift up a standard against him so when the flood waters are raging when the cancer diagnosis is given when there's radiation or chemotherapy or surgery i want you know while the enemy is coming in like a flood isaiah said that the spirit of the lord that sang rock that moved on the face of primordial liquidity and hoovered on the face of the deep that sang ruaca that said let us make man in our image and after our own likeness that same pneuma that breathed on jesus that empowered his ministry will be in your life right now let me tell you something what blessed me here is that the holy spirit begins to be most operative when the flock waters are raging in your life somebody type in i thank god for the holy ghost the spirit just doesn't give you goose pimples in church and goosebumps in church the spirit don't just make you run and shout in church but one of the things that the spirit does if the spirit will lift up a standard against the enemy i gotta take my seat but i feel my ride pushing me right here you know can i tell you what bless me here i did my research on this and i discovered something that won the first thing the spirit does is he lifts can somebody type in he lives now that word lift comes even from the french in the french it's the word levy you missed your shot right there the french word for lifter is the word levy yes god and it has some nuances for you and i from a homological perspective i love that french etymological reference there because it says when the spirit of the lord when the enemy shall come in like a flood the first thing the spirit does it lifts y'all mr shout that word again is levy yeah the spirit levies you do know what happened in new orleans uh was not the hurricane that caused the disaster but the disaster in new orleans was caused because the levees broke oh god the livings had been built by the army corps of engineers and the levees were to damn to create a dam in case of a flood the levees would prevent the waters from coming into your particular area but what happened in katrina they built levees that were only for a category two storm and katrina was a category five storm so what happened the army corps of engineers had levees that couldn't handle the intensity of the storm but i'm so glad y'all we got somebody greater than the army car of engineers cause if the storm is a category 5 6 we have the holy spirit who can damn up every attack of it that's why you made it that's why you still got your right mind cause the holy spirit can lift up and damn and stop every assignment of the enemy i don't know who's dealing with cancer right now but god told me to tell you your letters are stronger than the flood the spirit is greater than the enemy i got the clothes i got the clothes i got the clothes but the spirit shall lift up a standard oh i'm two minutes over my time but i got to deal with this as i take my seat uh because this mess me up here the the spirit lifts a standard now when i was a boy my mama taught me always have some standards i thought she meant principles i thought she made some ethics and she said the spirit lifts up a standard but i when i read this and did my research that's not the standard here that isaiah is talking about when he said the spirit shall lift up a standard that word in the hebrew it carries the idea of an accoutrement of battle oh god i feel you holy ghost it is an accoutrement of battle for whenever they were going to battle in the 6th century going to war at the front of that army was something called a standard it was not the army the air force the navy the marines or the coast guards but it was called a standard well he does smith what is a standard dog well a standard was like a billboard oh god they'd have a billboard uh a parchment they would attach it uh what they would do on both sides of that billboard they would write the names of every battle they had been in oh god they would write the names of every enemy they had conquered and on both sides of that standard they would write the names of every battle and then they would put a stick on one side and a pole on the other side and then as they were marching the battle they will lift the standard up real high so guess what so the army who's marching behind before they saw the enemy they saw the standard and when the enemy was coming to fight against him the first thing the enemy saw was the standard and what was on the standard the standard had every name of every foe of every demon of every enemy that had been defeated and that's what the standard was the standard was a reminder that you've already been in some battles the standard was a reminder of every victory you'd already won and i don't know who's watching me right now but stop looking at the flood waters of the enemy and start looking at the standard of the end of god start looking back and see how many times god brought you out does anybody have a standard come on raise that standard up yeah to stand it when you were down to your last dime uh the stand it when you were about to give up and when you look at the standard it should remind you that there ain't no secret to what god can do what he's done for others or he'll do the same thing for you somebody type in i got a standard and my standard is this jesus i'll never forget what you done for me jesus i'll never forget how you sprawled me and set me free jesus i never forget everything god has already done for you and so when the enemy shall come in like a flood the spirit shall lift up a standard against him i want to say that every person who's battling cancer or covet right now if it's cancer covert if it's a crack crisis if there's something going on in your consciousness the spirit is going to get you through it so you be not dismayed whatever been tied you god will take care of you the spirit is going to lift up a standard against the enemy and you shall live and not die so lift up your standard in the name of the father the son and the holy ghost walk with your standards hallelujah and family i want you to know uh that the promises of isaiah are the same promises that are ours today and when the enemy comes in like a flood the spirit of the lord will lift up a standard against him and i want you to know right now i don't care what kind of mess you're going through what kind of diagnosis you've you've had god is a god of deliverance and god is
