okay hi everybody we are on our way down to our amish neighbors and uh we're taking the motorized cart back down to him to borrow for the day he's got some hay to bail i've guessed i hate to bail today also but i'll be using the tractor on mine so maybe this afternoon i might be able to go down and help him out a little bit and maybe even be able to video it and show you how he goes about failing his head it's a nice day for a ride down the road just a piece and lady and bill soon to be happy to be here at work we're coming up on jim's field gonna be raking up today [Applause] and bailing it's gonna make some beautiful speed jim said yesterday it was just lovely which is not a word that's usually in his vocabulary but he oh boy i can smell it it smells really good he just had it yesterday yeah i gotta break right it is just beautiful hay we've had such lovely weather whoever gets to eat this is gonna love it so we are across from our the road from our amish neighbors and as you can see they had a big pumpkin patch we had an early frost so they've already moved removed all the real uh bright pumpkins but these are just ripening because we've had some really nice weather so i just wanted to show you that i'm glad to see that every day they're ripening a lot more and they said they've got a good market for them i think they said they're going to vermont over here they had an attempt at digging a well first they tried by hand and there was a bunch of people here digging by hand that didn't work then they hired an excavator and that also they didn't get any water which is a real bummer for this young couple i feel bad for them um but they have a well triggered digger coming they have water they've got big gardens here can't see them now but they were just beautiful because we got the frost but they had a big big garden here and it was a dry summer so a lot of times they had to bring in water and they had to bring in water for their house and they told us the other day that they are going to be building a house this fall so they've got a lot of busy times coming up they've really done a lot here this summer and here's um the baylor that um they're borrowing and jim's gonna pitch or have the cart available with a motor so that they can fill up some hay this afternoon after they pick it up off the field there's some horses out back put him up there then we'll get that close and i'll explain what he does okay i'm gonna push this back and i'll explain what he does okay this is what some of the amish in our area do when they don't have a big barn or a big farm um they don't need a big barn because he just does construction work carpenter work on the side and does some garden work so um they have this one field over here which they have been working on and where they've got the rest of their second cutting down in the center over there and that will be raked up and brought in today so since they don't have a big barn and are able to put the hay and loose into the barn because they will use the hay loader to pick this hay out they're not allowed to use a baler in the field so they are allowed to do it this way um and several of them in our area have to do it this way because they have no other options they have a small barn and to be able to get it all in there they need to bale it up so what they do is set the card up get the baler going they'll come in with a full wagon of loose head and i believe that back it right in here and just fork it right into the into the baler so i'm hoping this afternoon i can come over and show it to you while it's operating um if they're gonna let us i think they will but i'm not positive so we'll see how what happens there but if they if they can't uh at least i was able to show you this part and explain how they do do it so hopefully we see this afternoon and that's what they're getting water with right now when they need it i feel quite bad for them because it's just a young married couple and it's just a lot of expense unfortunately they went through all the trouble maybe they could take it back they bought all these tiles for a dug well and all these tiles were dug well and they may or may not get back yep little boards yeah it kind of reminds me of some of the trials we went through starting out life doesn't always go easy so so i'm back down my neighbors and we're going to see about get some hay in the barn he has raked his hay and he is coming up through with a hay loader in the wagon he has his sister helping him this afternoon i'm going to see if i can't be of help too so we'll go look things over so here is the hay loader um it is made to go behind the wagon and it operates so that the hay is brought up these um i think they call them fingers i'm not sure what they call them but they pull the hay up onto the wagon and then they have to spread it around on the wagon to make the load this is used by most all the amish in our area because they're not allowed to bale hay in the field these loaders are a little bit hard to come by and there is been a couple um places that do make them new so they are available new also on the wagon is andy and his sister and his six-year-old nephew i believe driving the horses [Applause] thank you okay [Music] the kicker does not work on this baler so they decided to take the top part of the figure off so there'd be no less pressure on the bale a short while ago i put on a video about how i bail with my horses in the fields that you might be interested in watching it's called bailing hay with horses oh we grew up with horses and you guys did but i did too yeah yeah but i think how many people have never never grown up with horses they're trying to learn and they don't know anything about it so if we can kind of put on video some of the things that we know it's really helpful for them here they're back in with a wagon and andy's sister's hitching it up for having a him position aren't you yeah been the body what do you want to do drive a fork maybe a little bit bold how about that yeah so so you it fall down and you fork it to the front and then it gets placed i'll stay in front of you yeah this would be interesting people really enjoyed it [Music] right [Music] foreign [Music] um are these your father's horses all right sounds horrible yeah because yours aren't really quite big enough no but you mowed and raked it yeah yeah i mean i mean they can do it but it's it's hard it's hard it's like me with my bigger horses running the baler with a kick in the wire man that they can do it but it's it's so much right yeah you might want to do it all day long yeah yeah but my smallest team is quite a bit heavier than this 15. yeah are those the belgians they weigh around 3 200 300. really and i don't think these two would make way more than 30 would they i don't think so all right [Music] come here okay hey okay how do you get off that breaking your neck all right slide down good question though how come you have your shoes on your sister is running barefoot yeah i'm used to it and he a lot of guys have no shoes i could never handle it no way in the world yeah i almost changed i mean i do sometimes but i mean i'm i'm often not at the sawmill right don't want yeah but not have shoes there yeah how high do i need to go to get out of the way headquarters hold me right yeah you ready yeah [Music] on their first load a six-year-old boy is driving horses so i hope i can handle the task [Music] i really like these nice braided lines [Music] ahead of us is a big ditch and you can see across the ditch there's a rake there and that is where his brother andy's brother farms this was originally his father's whole farm keep going oh is that it that is it yeah i don't know how you can stand here with your bare feet on that board i assemble this one oh you're way up there yeah because i got barefoot i couldn't oh my goodness hurt my feet with my shoes on standing there yeah i can't believe it after a short supper break we got right again so [Music] can i turn too sharp or not fine okay 6 30 last load's all done heading to the barn nice big low too well i hope you enjoyed the video please subscribe and hit the notification bell have a great day [Music] you
