Making a $50,000 Eldritch Minecraft Mod (for MrBeast)

10 months ago I was offered the opportunity of a lifetime work for Mr Beast on the most expensive Minecraft mod ever created and turn it into the most visually impressive the game has ever seen so naturally when my good friend and legendary mod young Nick Yong came up to me with this offer in exchange of $10,000 I refused what why how can you work for the biggest YouTuber and get paid handsomely in exchange of a silly Minecraft mod why wouldn't you see I've done my first show of Minecraft mod commissions for YouTubers in the past and funnily enough even some for CJ Mr BEAST's brother and while I did enjoy coding for others my favorite part has always been coming up with new ideas and making them myself as such commissions never really made me feel whole so it's going to take a little more than just money to listen we can do whatever we want and you can make a video about it I'm in what's the pitch so Mr Beast is organizing a $5 versus $50,000 Minecraft mod video with various mods ranging from $5 all the way up to uh well 50,000 and of course we're doing the big $50,000 mod and rat since you make pretty lights and big explosions I want you I want you too young okay damn it rat I I meant professionally yeah yeah keep telling yourself that two sexy big mod men on a big Minecraft Project don't tell me you don't know what you're doing okay you know what I wish but actually it's not just the two of us hello hey yo is that iTune yes that's itun and in case you're not a mud nner let me give you a little bit of context this guy is an absolute legend in the Minecraft modding scene he started modding before I was even playing the game this dude made the original portal gun mod mob dismemberment slender mod and one of the first ever Minecraft modeling tools inside of the game itself and look I don't even know how I do this on modern Minecraft so I can't even begin to comprehend how he did on old versions and you're telling me I got to work with this guy I feel like a fish out of water I'm out of my league well maybe but before I knew it I wasn't a call with the rest of the team we picked along and started brainstorming and after a long and productive 10 hours we now have a vision of what we want Minecraft's biggest bus fight players would start in a massive ancient city Canyon and work their way towards a massive laser gun to kill a giant aldrid entity that's when they end up being swallowed by The Entity and transported to an alien space Dimension inside the entity where they have to reassemble the gun and use it to destroy the heart of the entity yeah it's closer to a fever dream than a vision but trust the process oh and did I mention we only have two months to do it yeah let's get to work now usually I work on quilt but this mod has to be made on fabric which raises our first problem whenever I need to do flashy visual effects I Rely heavily on a modding Library called loadstone and that library is only available on quilt or Forge not fabric so I'd have to Port it from quilt to fabric in order to use it and normally this would be fairly easy as quilt is very similar to fabric but that's where we have a second problem not only do young and niton want to make the mod on fabric they also want to use mojing mappings instead of the regular fabric ones mappings basically dictate how everything is named in the code and because Mojang quite Lally wrote the game you'd think the naming system would be the superior one right right math helper becomes MTH B entity at Fresh entity damage Hur apply damage actually Hur entity pose becomes POS so naturally entity Dimensions becomes entity Dimensions entity is sneaking becomes entity is Shifty down yes even for mobs Abra CL player stays the same so client player too nope local player so client World becomes local World nope that's client level naturally you can't forget about the iconic Minecraft instab buil game mode Tator loses an L for no reason and becomes blog position. ad becomes offset which is actually good if it weren't for the fact that the other type of positions offset is still named ad and finally I kept the best for last like villager entity. notified Death Becomes villager tell witnesses that I was murdered you you can't make this up and of course all these are just examples the tip of the iceberg so you can't even begin to Fathom the pain I'm going to have to go through nevertheless despite everything I still committed and started porting loadstone and after long grueling hours of looking up names and translating them to random nonsensical ones young aniton told me this well you can just run like the translate mappings task or whatever to at least translate your existing code yeah if any good mod bu that environment would have that cough cough tin why didn't you tell me that early I didn't know you didn't know about it it's a Gradle task you could have just double clicked a little task and you would have it would shut up okay I'm I'm leaving I'm out I'm out I'm going to I'm going to cry in my corner but eventually after spending way more time than I needed on this I had a version that worked hey at least now it works uh the screen shet works the flash works and uh I'm going to trust myself that everything else Works maybe all right now that loone is ported time to work on some actual features all right first things first the map is going to have objectives so we need you know a pink system and an objective systems that is displayed objective system being displayed that that works uh but the Ping uh well I don't know what I did but yeah yeah this this is what happens I think I touched a class that I probably shouldn't have touched but the Ping actually kind of work look there these black dots that move around uh they should not move around that's not normal okay and would you look at that that that's fixed my hand is no longer dislocated it doesn't move uh it moved with the pings for some reason but now look they're properly colored and they just ping like like a ping and they're just like Skittles you can have them multiple colors multiple pings uh so look at this purple look at this blue uh look at this other shade of purple okay I swear to God there's there's more colors than blue and purple I'm just getting very bad luck with the random colors the second thing I got to work on are spatial Rifts they're going to be a thing in Phase 2 that allows the pliers to hop in them and actually get teleported to the other islands that they need to go to now I have this 2D PNG just flashing we just need to make it look good see I'm thinking threedimensional yeah that's that looks trash but yeah like that that's looking good now how about we try to mess around with the numbers a bit let's see uh oh my god wow spatial urin okay that's that's maybe a bit too much or we could touch the orientation numbers directly and uh completely offset the camera position thing so that does a kind of electricity Vibe I don't know if I'm going to use this but it looks cool all right I also try to make a note system that looks like this uh it doesn't look really good it certainly doesn't look like broken glass especially with the uh the the Miss in the uh connection as you can see like that doesn't look like a crack at all however if I make a constellation mod in the future that could be the way to go I just realized there's a render spere method here that uh oh what that looks so cool I didn't even realize that was here when I ped loadstone I didn't even know that was a thing for loadstone what I'm trying to understand how it works but I can't figure out how it does it just it never does a it says render sphere but it never does a sphere wait a minute wait a minute I think I mean there's still not a sphere but W oh wait so you're telling me loadstone is not just for particles oh I've unlocked a new power and I can mess around all I want and do some really interesting things I still cannot figure out how to make it a solid sphere how okay okay I got this after like I think just an hour an hour that that was was a very long hour but I can finally present to you ball definitely not going to use it for the Rifts I don't think it works but hey new power learned I don't know I might use it in the mod later however before I do that let me tell you a little bit about the fabric of like it looks like a 3D glass crack is that's what I'm trying to say and now all the magic is in the effects look at that that looks beautiful that looks like a gorgeous Aurora balis it's wow at this time of year and now with a space vortex in the middle to connect all the cracks W look at those particles going in and you can't forget the opening sounds oh that's wow that's I'm I'm saying wow but that's really satisfying yeah never never give me a funny stick that breaks the continuity of time and space like oh my God I just can't stop using that oh and before when you go through them you just get teleported and now there's actually a cool teleport effect oh wait I've got an idea villager particle accelerator never mind yeah all right it's it seems to work a little bit better with an ion colum he's just going he's just going and since I know we have a plan for like a massive Rift on top of a volcano in the phase 2 uh now they're also size customizable and you know they're just regular Rifts if you go through them well they just Del uh I love fortnite all right third thing on the menu we need a respawn system you know the Mr Beast team can't be trusted to not die they are going to die so uh we need something so that they respawn and they can continue to play and young as me to do an entire system for it but uh I think I've got a better idea done and just slap a rift teleport effect on it and bam done no need for a system ship it and now that we've got all the boring system stuff out of the way it's actually time to get to the meat the fun the gun this baby is going to be the star of the show well I mean the star of the show is going to be the boss but this baby is going to be the star that kills the star of the show and I mean look at that thing pulsating in the night Wen gun Wen gun how about we take it for a test ride just give it some time to warm up you know it's preparing his shot it's going to be satisfying I promise oh promised now obviously it's going to be slow whenever they play it but it's a dead ENT we can have fun you know increase the Cadence a little bit but you know right now it's all looks no effect and uh we can't have that can we yeah I I I think it's right M of deadly although now that I'm looking at the death server that they have uh of the phase one map the walls are actually pretty thin I mean they're pretty thick but uh if that's going to make a hole through a mountain it will definitely make a hole through one of these walls so instead I just switched to a classic you know throw blocks around explosion a bit laggy but at least uh you know they won't find a way to escape that way and after a bit of polishing giving an animation to the Crosshair whenever you get on the gun making it really slow and heavy when you turn it and making the Crosshair shoot where it actually aims because yes that wasn't actually the case before the gun is pretty much done and while I was working working on all of this can you guess what IUN was up to taunting me in the logs that that's literally it all you did was remap the mod by hand until we told you there was already an automated task for it in grle oh my God bro and I can't let that slide So I responded and 2 Days Later young joined the game ladies please do not flirt in the logs thank you you're just jealous You Ain't Us oh I love working in these guys okay I would like to make an addendum cuz apparently that's not everything Ian has done so far he's also gone ahead and added sound sounds to the bfl and oh that sounds so good and apparently he's also revised my explosion code a little bit and supposedly made it better which I [Music] doubt which I don't doubt oh and the oh I know that sound hold on I got to see this again oh oh the [Music] blocks they do flips now oh that's that's awesome but what's the point of a big gun that destroys things if you have nothing to shoot it at as you can see I've gone ahead and messed a little bit with my new found sphere powers and made this creepy really creepy eyeball but it's just a texture and I'm actually curious what we can do with it so I can give it an inside check and wow okay that that looks actually really cool oh and if I rotate only the exterior the Sky Box inside stays still oh and I can also display shaders inside okay that's that's actually probably going to be really useful and really trippy oh that's actually such a cool effect you enter it and out of nowhere you're just stuck in the void okay so I went ahead and modified the end portal Shader just a little bit and superposed it with a sky boox and I am really liking that that looks really clean and I I I put multiple layers on top of each other it makes the outside look cloudy now it doesn't make any sense but it doesn't have to so we'll go with it all right so I've been messing around for about an hour and I think I got it look look at this and it looks so pretty if you pay attention on the outside you can see like some sort of clouds moving and then the iris is made out of this beautiful green vortex I'm in love with this look at this thing it's unreal it is crazy you can see me on the edge of the eye right now and as soon as I turn just exit gone and all it needs now is just to look around randomly and sometimes look at players and then I'm pretty sure we have our BS well the first phase at least because remember in phase two we're going inside the eye in space so let's get that so welcome to phase two as I said space themed and it has three Island it has a magical Island a technological Island and a meteorite scorched fire themed Island our first job here is to finalize the sky box as you can see young already went ahead and implemented a custom Sky Box but I really wanted to experiment with it and make something unique and dynamic and in order to do that I may or may not have tricked him into buying a giant pack of Sky boxes so we're going to try a few o ah ooh now all all these Sky boxes look really cool but they look a little bit static and remember we want something Dynamic so let's try to move them around a little bit Ah Um when I said moving skyboxes I didn't mean the entire world but uh oh where even am I I I can't find oh wait wait H hi how's it going all right this is what I was actually aiming for it's working slightly better I don't know why whenever I do a change that's graphical it just changes the entire world but Minecraft's World rendering code is absolutely scoffed you would not not believe it so I'm not surprised now I overlay two Sky boxes on top of each other and made them transparent so we have the same cloudy effect that we have on the eye but the real kicker is when you combine more than two and different ones I mean look at this wow it's just wow and you know yes the Skybox is gorgeous but I feel like it's it's missing something you know we're inside the eye so um how about we show that this has to be one of the most insane skyboxes I've ever seen for a custom dimension in in Minecraft and to be honest with you when I first got hired for this $50,000 Minecraft Project I was not sure I'd be able to pull my weight but yeah I think this is it now making the Skype ready isn't my only job here as you remember there's three islands and specifically we got to work on the magical one see on this magical Island there will be a custom boss and right now all he does is uh summon farm animals so let's get working on his attacks the first attack is going to be a shock wave and uh that that that looks trash I'm going to be honest with myself rat that looks terrible all right particles is a little bit better uh though it just looks like he just used paint instead of magic but if we move it that looks like a natural shock wave and with a little bit more particles yeah I like that I like that that gives us the sense of power now for the second attack what I want to do is one of those cool anime alchemy circles that summons a light but in order to do that we'd need a cylinder function and loadstone doesn't have one so I got to figure it out and find how to make one I guess in since I'm lazy I'm going to experiment with the eye directly and uh it's already going terrible wrong I expected some weird results but uh not whatever this Abomination is what the hell is this oh my God do not look at me oh my God that is trippy W wao and now I turned him into a pancake devour of Worlds okay I think this is the right time to say that I have no idea whatever I'm doing in trigonometry but I think that is a cone which means I'm definitely getting closer yes okay I got it okay perfect effect and with a bit of circular magic we now have a literal magic circle and with some spin oh some spin you can't forget the spin ah that is really really sexy now all it needs is to be functional and we're good and for the third attack I figured I'd get one of those magic sword portals because I think that would just look awesome and I'm right it does currently it just throws Trident uh that also fly for some reason that's I don't know what so all I need to do is fix that fix the portal looks make it more purple give it actual magic Spears and boom look at that wow absolutely anime I love anime why do I say these things and now that the crystal Mage can also summon minions because yeah I didn't tell you there's a fourth attack it's just look I'm just using particles it's so simple it's pretty much done now whether the fight is balanced or not uh that's a completely different question but it it it's good look that's my job done all right if you've paid attention while I was coding all these things in Phase 2 you may have noticed that there's a giant red ball in the middle while the bus in the first phase is going to be the eye we coded earlier the bus in the second phase is going to be its hot it's coold and you have to assemble the gun throughout the islands to shoot at it and destroy it the team and I decided to settle on a design a to a black hole and I tried this but it doesn't exactly look good sadly I think that's as far as I'm going to get with load Stone however if I were to use shaders from what I'm looking at there seems to be quite a few good black holes I could replicate but I'm still bad at making shaders so as with everything Shader related I just hit up my more competent friend pirab and after working for a few hours together trying to implement various black hole shaders found on the internet we eventually managed to make one work oh my God I am actually speechless I mean look at everything here we've got the sky boox the eye in the sky the black hole made with shaders at this point this whole mother has just become a tech demo look at the light defraction just like Waring around the black hole and then you know you of course you can angle it and of course if you go inside it distorts your vision I don't know what to say but that was just getting the Shader working now we can actually experiment with it ooh that's a creepy fog effect now it's completely dark so it's not what I want and it quite frankly doesn't work that well on me but it looks really cool and in red it's even better okay now I just changed a variable which I don't understand exactly what it does and I still understand what it did but um I probably shouldn't have changed it all right and after a lot of painful math I finally have a result I'm happy with I didn't change much in the end and now it also has you know a center piece that glows that clearly indicates to you uh what you need to aim at when you shoot the bfl in the second phase and when you do it completely shatters this is when the final sequence of the mod is going to take place and oh boy am I going to make it amazing but you'll have to wait to see it now before we ship the mod there's still one last thing I want to do see young and naan have been working on the script sequence kind of thing so these will allow you to respawn and the orange ones are linked to cut scene and one of these cutscenes is this really cool tendril absolutely destroying everything its way but the problem is that's the only one on the entire parkour and it's just way too cool to pass on so um let's make it so that the boss randomly uses it oh my god it works yes oh my God hold on I'm going to I'm going to increase the frequency oh my God oh my God yes look at that look at the Roose oh this is awesome Ian did such a good job with them oh it's so cool oh the bridge is completely ruined but oh my God that's awesome you going to do anything you going to smite me oh my God look at those blocks it's the best looking destruction I've ever seen in this game okay so I missed a little bit more around with the tendrils in oh my God you're not going to believe this added a bit more polishing to the entirety of phase one adding this beautiful fog that wraps in the city and look at those tendrils coming out of it it looks so threatening and menacing they're on the floor on the ceiling that's just oh my God that is so threatening and I also went ahead and added sounds every time it attacks every time it smashes with a tentacle through things look at that and funny enough all of this reminds me of a comment I saw in my previous video about the limonal pools and the big fish I had being like Oh this is the closest rat we'll get to coding an eldrid being in Minecraft yeah no you guys really need to stop underestimating me and with that we have a pretty solid mod for the price tag all that's left for me is to code a few more minor features GES that Propel you upwards in a new gas variant called the flare for the volcanic island a light Bridge you can walk on and lasers that zap you for the tech Island a force field that keeps the gunpod hostage until you have defeated the boss on the magic Island emissive scull for phase one a cool looking credits block and dimension and you know me I can't pass up on good ambient so I added some for phase one and for phase two and after all that and a bit more polishing we tested the mod a few times making sure everything worked looking at me what do you mean hi rap yo W he moved he moved and it did okay here we go here we go no for the most part everything was going well we were on time and the deadline was approaching but sadly alock stopped there see two days before handing the m to the Mr Beast gaming team for them to get everything ready for Jimmy and the Gang to play we were given devastating news the Mr Beast gaming video we were going to be featured in had just been scrapped while the team was very happy with what we showcased to them this wasn't the case for every other mod they commissioned most of them being deemed too buggy boring or just not a good fit for the video and as such Mr Beast wouldn't play it and while our mod was salvaged months later to be played on Nolan's Channel this wasn't exactly what we signed up for it wasn't the same as the whole Mr Beast game playing it so instead I figured I'd get the second best thing for this video friends how confident are you about killing a warden pretty confident okay okay follow me everybody do not step on Trier yet we need to set up the Trap all we got to do is we got to dig a two block deole this is all you need to take care of the warden
