welcome to the jungkook's games tutorial for lost ruins of arnac in this video i'll be teaching you the rules of the game as we play through the first two out of the game's five overall rounds now i would like to mention that the only reason this video is being made is because it won the monthly poll that is voted on by the patreon supporters of this channel now if you'd like to learn more about that and potentially vote in a future poll then you can go to patreon.com john gets games now i'd also like to ask that if you end up enjoying this video that you please click the like button for down below as well as the subscribe button for the channel alright let's jump into the game out here we have the game fully set up and ready to play for our three different players now before i start i would like to ask that you please turn on the klingon subtitles i might make mistakes as i'm showing you the game and that lets me put corrections on the screen where you should be able to see them well let's start things off with a brief overview of the game thematically all of us have now arrived at an island in the middle of the ocean and there are artifacts and ruins there for us to discover now each player has a deck of cards and two archaeologists and we are going to play through five total rounds now during a round players are going to be spending cards in order to do the actions listed on them and they can also use the cards and other ways to travel with their archaeologists out to various dig sites on the island these over here are easy to get to at the start of the game while others have to be explored before players can activate those sites now a big part of this game involves the deck of cards that we have each of us starts with the exact same deck of six cards and as we play through the game we will be able to use our funding to purchase new items because these cards have coins in the bottom now all the cards to the right of this staff are going to be items that cost funding and all cards to the left take exploration tokens because these are artifacts that we find on the island now this staff tracks the rounds once we go to the second round it will go here and then there will be four items available and two artifacts so as we continue to go throughout the game we will have less items available to us but we will have explored more artifacts to find out on the island now in addition to having a different cost each of these types of cards works a little differently as well when you spend your funding to get new items they go to the bottom of your deck so you will have access to them soon because you put in an order for them whereas every time you buy an artifact you play it immediately and use its effect because you just found it but in the future if you want to use it again you will have to spend a tablet that you found to activate it at this point i'd now like to draw your attention to the temple now each player has a magnifying glass and a book token and this shows that we are going to be finding things over here on this temple which involves a branching track and then we will also be able to write things down about that now every time we advance either of these tokens we will get the associated rewards that are listed here and if we are the first person into one of these areas with a token then we specifically get that bonus so there are a lot of benefits to be had while researching the temple and a decent amount of victory points that can be found at the end of the game and if you get your magnifying glass all the way up to the top then you'll gain access to the lucrative temple tiles at the top now as i mentioned before the game will take place over five rounds and once we have finished the fifth round we can add up our points we are going to gain points for various cards that we have in front of us with these numbers in the bottom and we will lose points for the fear cards that are in our deck we will also get points for temple towels as well as the position of our research tokens on the track we will get points for idols that we can find for exploring various sites out on the board and when we explore we will uncover various guardians that we can then gain points for if we are able to overcome them once all points are collected the player with the most points will be the winner now obviously i will talk about all of these things in much greater detail as we are playing and at this point i think it's now time to start playing the game now as you can see we are beginning in the first round and the very first thing that happens at the beginning of each round is each player will draw the top five cards from their shuffled up deck now this is going to be their starting hand for the round and as you can see we all now have one card left in our deck because our starting decks are just six cards large at this point it's now time to start taking actions and as you can see the first player marker is down here with the green player now we are going to play as the green player for today's tutorial so that means we can now take the first turn of the game well let's start by taking a look at our hand of cards as you can see we have two exploration cards we also have two funding cards and we have a single fear card now our starting deck consists of six cards four of them match our player color and then two are fear cards like this that means by process of elimination we know the last card on the top of our deck is indeed a fear card now for our turn we can take one main action and as many bonus actions as we want now the bonus actions always have a lightning bolt symbol in front of them so we could play this exploration out to take an exploration token and put it in front of us and then still take our main action because that lightning bolt means this is a bonus action now i don't think we want to do that at this point and it's worth noting that the bonus action lightning bolt shows up not only on our cards but also on our player board for spots that we can activate with idols which i'll talk about later and there are also bonus actions that can come into play with assistance that i will also discuss later on so whenever you see a lightning bolt that is a bonus action that does not consume your entire turn now at this moment i don't think we are going to play out any bonus actions and let's now take our main action for the turn now there are eight different main action options total and the one i'd like to take for this turn is digging at a site with one of our archaeologists with this in mind we can now take a look at the main map area of the board and as you can see it's split into three overall areas now at the start of the game the bottom area has these five dig sites that we know about and we can go to with our archaeologists this middle section has eight unexplored areas and the top section has four unexplored areas now when we go to dig at a site we have to go to a site that is already explored so that means these five options are the only ones we can do right now it's a different action to explore a new site and i'll talk about that later on in the tutorial so let's focus on these revealed dig sites and as you can see below them there are one or two action spots now technically every single spot has two action spots on them but in a three player game as part of setup we randomly put three of these blocking tokens down which will stay on these locations for the entire game if this was a two-player game we would put blocking tokens down onto every single one of the double boot spots and in a four player game there would be no blocking tokens at all so we have to send this archaeologist to a free action site underneath one of these spots and as you can see all of them do have a boot on them or maybe even two boots now these boots are the travel cost that we have to spend in order to get our archeologist over to that site and if we look up here to the next area some of these sites require cars or boats and way out in the horizon these locations take two cars or two boats to reach once again we can't actually access those sites because they aren't explored just yet so when we focus back down here all of the transportation costs are just walking because they are very close to where we landed on the island now the main way that players will get these transportation costs is by playing cards from their hand to just get the transportation cost in the top left corner as you can see we have two boats two cars and one foot and in fact every fear card in the game has a foot icon in the top left corner now i think what we should do is spend this fear that will give us the one boot icon that we need in order to visit any of these single boot locations it's worth noting if we wanted to go to a double boot spot we would of course need to discard two cards like this or we could get the transportation icon in different ways those could show up on assistance like this one right over here they can also show up in the main action of different cards that can be played and you can also just spend two coins as you can see this is a travel hierarchy on our player aid and it says that you can always spend a car as if it was a boot or a boat as if it was a boot you could spend a plane as if it was a car a boot or a boat and you can always spend two coins to hire a pilot so effectively you can always spend two coins to make up for the transportation cost of any of the single icons in the board so as i said we're going to use our fear card to gain the one boot transportation cost that we need and whenever we play a card we put it face up in front of us and future cards will also go down here and the order doesn't matter this is effectively a large face up discard pile for us now that we've played the fear card we have a boot at our disposal this means we can send our archaeologist to any of the single boot spots that currently does not have an archaeologist on it and i think we should go here and that will give us two coins we can place those on our player board in our cargo area and at this point we finished our main action once again we could take as many bonus actions now if we wanted to but i think we may as well hold on to these cards so that means our turn is over and play can now move on clockwise to the next player after considering their options they are going to play a fear card for the boot and send one of their archaeologists out as well in this case they're going to head over here and that is going to give them two exploration tokens after that they could play bonus actions but they've decided not to and that's going to finish their turn this means red can go so they can start by looking at their hand and we're not too surprised to see them also play a fear in order to send one of their archaeologists out to the single boot spots on the board after considering the options they want to go here and that gives them one arrowhead after that they feel they are done with their turn which means we now get to take our second turn of the game so we can focus back over here and i think for our main action we want to spend some of our coins in order to buy a new item card so let's focus up on the card market and as you can see there are currently five items available and there is one artifact over here now artifacts cost exploration tokens to buy whereas the items always cost coins at the moment we have four coins so we technically have enough to buy this aeroplane but i think let's spend three of our coins in order to purchase this army knife next up let's focus back on our area and whenever we take a new item card we put it face down to the bottom of our deck now we don't naturally draw more cards until the start of the next round of the game so we have essentially reserved that army knife for us for the next round unless we find a way to draw two cards through various bonuses in this first round of the game and that is certainly possible now i'd like to talk about the specifics of this card a little bit more before we move on as you can see it has two transportation icons in the top left corner so if we were to play it for transportation it would provide both of those icons now whenever you play a card for transportation you don't get any of the other effects on that card so it's certainly something you have to keep in mind now speaking of effects on the card you can see down below it says choose two different options now this does not have a lightning bolt symbol on it which means that playing this card for the action in the middle is going to cost your entire turn and if you did that then obviously you would not gain the transportation icons in the top left corner speaking of corners in the bottom right we can see there is a one with the victory point symbol so that means if we still have the army knife at the end of the game this is worth one victory point for us now the final thing i'd like to talk about is the specifics of the action this says we could choose two different options when we play this out in front of us and those involve getting a coin getting an exploration token getting a tablet or exiling a card now whenever you exile a card you can take any card from your hand or from your played cards area and remove it to its associated exile spot on the board so for example we could play the army knife get a coin and exile this fear and again every fear card is worth negative one points at the end of the game as you can see there is a deck of fear cards up here so when you exile those they go on top of the deck and likewise there is a deck over here for exiled items and lastly a deck for exiled artifact cards that means this army knife is overall very flexible and that's why i decided to pick it up now obviously we haven't played it in fact technically it is two cards down in our deck at this point and now the next thing that we have to do is refresh the card row the way we do this is we slide all of the cards towards the staff so that means that these will go here and then we draw a new card from the associated stack in this case that is a horse it gives two of the car type of transportation it costs four coins to buy and when you play it as a full turn action you get a coin an exploration token and you can draw the top card from your deck into your hand well our main action is done and i don't feel like taking any bonus actions so that means our turn is over and yellow can go well after considering their options they are going to play a funding card but not as a coin for a bonus action instead they are playing this card for the boat transportation icon in the top left corner with this boat action and their archaeologist they're going to discover the first new site of the game with this in mind they can focus back out on the map and they have decided they want to head over here that does have a boat icon and that explains why they spent the boat icon on their card to go there but in addition to that you'll notice there is a threshold line here with a cost of three exploration tokens that means it's going to cost three of these tokens back to the bank in order to explore any of these new spots up here and likewise if anyone wants to explore up there it will not only take the two travel icons but also six of these exploration tokens considering how far away these sites are so yellow arrived over there and they've spent their three exploration tokens and now it's time for them to explore this site the way this works is they take the top card from the matching tile stack that fits the area they just explored this is the site level one area so they'll take one of these or as the more expensive farther away sites come from the two stack over here next up they can flip this tile over and place it onto the area where they are at now as you can see there is an idle token on every one of the unexplored spots so that means yellow will take this and then place this a new location down onto the board next up they can place this idle token down onto their player board regarding idols it's also worth noting that when you explore a level 2 site you get two of these idols although one of them starts off face down so that means you will only get the immediate bonus of one it would then flip over and then obviously with two of these idols you are getting six points at the end of the game their new idol will now go into their cargo area now whenever you take a face up idol like this you have to immediately activate the bonus on it and then you flip it face down as you can see it shows the three victory point icon on both sides now this icon looks familiar to us that is the exile a card action that we already discussed so that means by flipping this over they can remove any card they've played in front of them or from their hand in this case we are not surprised to see them exile this fear card from their discard area so that will go up here onto the draw deck and then the next thing that happens is a guardian is going to appear at this new location now that means we take the top tile from this deck of guardians we flip it over and we put it on top of that current location after that it's now time for the yellow player to actually dig at the site that they explored which means they are going to get all of the associated benefits that are on that site so in this case that is going to give them an exploration token it will also give them a juul which are quite hard to come by but unfortunately this is a somewhat scary area so it will also give them a fear card which will be placed face up in their discard area so they can draw the top card from the deck and it's worth noting that if there were no more fear cards left in the deck then instead they would take one of these tokens which is worth negative two points now these tokens can be exiled just like a card and it's worth noting that these are double-sided you can see on the back side there is a multiplier for the resources all resources in the game are functionally unlimited so if we run out of tokens we can put a token on here and have it count as three now it is very unlikely that we would have all of these fear cards be gone but it's certainly a possibility so yellow can place this fear card into their discard area and they're certainly happy they got rid of one considering they ended up gaining another one now of course they can put their exploration token and a jewel into their cargo area as well and that's finished up their main action now before we move on i'd like to go back and take a look at that guardian in more detail as you can see it shows several different icons on it and as you noticed this guardian did not actually stop the yellow player from performing the dig action at the site now the guardians are scary overall and at the end of the round if you return an archaeologist from a site that still has a guardian on it then that player will gain a fear card into their discard pile just like we've already seen fortunately one of the main actions involves overcoming a guardian at a site with one of your archaeologists and i think it's likely we'll see the yellow player try to do that later on in this round so we'll talk about the guardians in more detail then yellow has now decided they're done with their turn so that means red can go and for their main action they have decided to research the temple now this does not use their archaeologist or any of their cards instead they have to spend their resources to move one of their tokens up the track as you can see each player has two research tokens one is a magnifying glass and one is a book now you are never allowed to have your book be higher up on a row than your magnifying glass and that's because thematically your magnifying glass is you discovering things in the temple and the book is you writing down those discoveries afterwards now for every research action you can move one of your tokens up one space on the track and as you can see at the start of the game all players are adjacent to two different locations now whenever you go up you can go to an adjacent spot so that means the red player can spend one joule to move their magnifying glass up here or they can spend an exploration token and an arrowhead to move their magnifying glass up there now that does appear to be what they want to do so they can spend an arrowhead and an exploration token to pay for that and in the future from this spot they can move to that location or that location because they are connected now whenever you move a token onto a spot that has one of these bonuses you immediately take that bonus so these are only going to go to the player who is first to that specific spot on the temple track obviously there are no bonuses in the first area over here and now the final thing that happens is the player can take the associated benefit for the token they just moved in this case they moved their magnifying glass up so they can look to the right in that column and that means they are going to get a coin as a reward if they had moved their book up to either of these spots on the row then they would gain an assistant which i will talk about soon so they can take their one coin and that's finished up their research action they've also decided they're done with their turn so that means we now get to go again well i think this is going to be a setup turn for us let's send our archaeologist out to one of the dig sites and in particular i think i'd like to get two exploration tokens now that is unfortunate because it's going to cost us two boots currently if we look at our hand we don't have any boots but remember you can spend the cars or the boats as if it was a boot and you can also spend two coins to hire a plane which counts as a boot as well at the moment we have one coin so i think let's just spend both of these funding cards for their transportations so that means we've effectively gained the two boots that we need and we can now take two exploration tokens one thing to remember is that of course we won't get the coins from playing these cards for their effect so we can take the two tokens and i do hope this is going to be worth it to us of course foregoing those two coins is significant but as you can see we have two exploration cards in our hand so that means we could get up to four tokens total and i think for the turn we want to do next it's going to take three of them and i'll discuss the plan once it's our turn again all right we are done so now the yellow player can go and they have decided to take the overcome a guardian main action the way you do this is you have to have a guardian at the same site as one of your archaeologists and then you must spend all of the associated icons that are printed on that guardian in order to overcome them in this case the cost for this guardian involves spending a car transportation as well as one arrowhead well they can start by looking to their hand and they are going to play this funding card for the car so that has satisfied one of the two requirements but as you can see they don't actually have an arrowhead currently in their encampment fortunately they do have an idle in their cargo area because you may have noticed on every player board there are four of these spots that match the shape of an idle and they have the lightning bolt in it which means this is a bonus action and what this means is on the player's turn they can take an idle from their cargo area and put it on top of any of these empty spots and then immediately perform the action of one of these five options so they could spend a coin to get a jewel they could get an arrowhead two tablets a coin and an exploration token or they could draw a card from the top of their deck now obviously they need an arrowhead so they are going to do this bonus action to gain an arrowhead from this slot here now it's important to note that each of these locations has victory points printed on them and when the game is over you'll get points for all of those numbers that are still showing since they covered up that one that means they have effectively spent one victory point to gain that arrowhead now the idol itself is worth three points to them but it was also worth three points when it was down here in the cargo area it's worth noting once an idol is placed on one of these spots it stays there for the rest of the game unless you find a card action which changes that so that means in the future if they get another idol then as a bonus action they could go here to take one of these but that would obviously cost them two big trade points the third time you do it costs three and the fourth time you do it it costs four points so you better be very sure that you need the bonus that you are getting for covering up those points well they now have the arrowhead and of course they played this car so that means they have everything that they need to overcome this guardian now that means they've essentially gained the guardian's respect and it is now leaving that area and then they can place this face up into their own personal area once again having a guardian on an action spot does not stop you from taking that action but if the guardian is there at the end of the round when you remove an archaeologist you get a fear so by overcoming this guardian when the yellow player resets and pulls this archaeologist back they will not gain a fear because the guardian is no longer there next up they can place this guardian face up in their area because each guardian gives a player a one-time bonus when they choose to flip it over as you can see the bonus is in the top right corner so for this guardian here they could flip it over to gain one boat transportation icon when they need it now you may have noticed over here it shows five victory points on the back and that's because every guardian that you defeat is worth five points to you at the end of the game whether or not you've used it's once per game bonus well yellow is done with their turn so now red can go and if they have decided they want to play their fear card for a boot icon to then send their archaeologist out to a dig site the place they've decided to head to is here that does cost one boot and then this effect says if they use up one card from their hand they can then gain a jewel now whenever you use up a card from your hand you simply play it from your hand into your face up discard area without performing any of the bonuses or effects listed on it in this case red decides they want to use up this funding card so it will go over here and once again the transportation icon or any icons on the card itself don't mean anything they have just used this as a cost to then gain a jewel which they can put into their cargo area all right that has finished up their turn which means it's now time for us to go and i want to use these two exploration tokens to purchase the first artifact of the game with this in mind let's take a look back at the card row and as you can see there is currently just one artifact because the artifacts are always to the left of this staff now that is an inscribed blade and every artifact is going to cost exploration tokens listed in the bottom this one in particular costs two exploration tokens well we happen to have two exploration tokens so we can spend those as payment and then we can take the inscribed blade from the market next up let's come back to our area and if you remember when we bought an item it went to the bottom of our deck however whenever you buy an artifact you instead play it face up into your discard area and immediately activate it so that means we can perform the effect of the inscribed blade and it says we can research the temple with a discount of either one arrowhead or two tablets now you may have noticed in the middle left there is this tablet icon with an arrow and that means in the future when we play this artifact from our hand in order to perform this action we have to spend a tablet as a cost now every single artifact in the game costs one tablet to play from your hand but whenever you buy them and play them immediately this cost is not needed so that means in the future we will probably want to start getting some tablets because you need those inscriptions to better understand how to use these artifacts thematically now at this point we can research the track with a discount of an arrowhead or two tablets and at the moment we haven't researched at all which means our options are an exploration token and an arrowhead or a jewel now this is obviously the one we are going to go for and we can discount that arrowhead away but we do still need one exploration to make this research possible fortunately for us we are allowed to take bonus actions at any point during our turn even in the middle of an action so we can spend this exploration card to gain one exploration token and then immediately spend this token along with our one arrowhead discount to move our magnifying glass up right over here now after we do that we can get the associated bonus which is going to be one coin which we can add into our cargo area which is right over here now we finished up our main action which means we have to refresh the card market so we can slide all of the artifacts over and then refill this spot in the next one is a cleansing cauldron that one says when you play it you can draw a card from your deck and then optionally exile a card from your hand or from your played area that's a pretty powerful effect and it does cost three exploration tokens to take all right our turn is done so yellow can go and for their main action they want to spend this jewel to research one spot on the temple track as you can see that is the cost for the right hand side so they can send their magnifying glass over there and then they will gain one coin as a reward this means it's now red's turn and they want to spend two of their coins to buy a new item card currently there are three options that only cost two coins the first one is a parrot and it says when you use it you have to use up another card from your hand to get a jewel next up the carrier pigeon says as a bonus action you can take two tablets and lastly this airdrop says you can exile this particular card to gain one item card immediately into your hand now this is the one they've decided to go with and that also has an airplane as a transportation icon which is effectively wild it's worth noting these other two had boats and it's also worth noting that every single artifact has a plane as its transportation icon sometimes even multiple planes so this airdrop will go to the bottom of the red player's deck then the items will slide over and we will get new ones and this is a revolver now that gives you two boats if you like or for its main action you could spend one of your exploration tokens to immediately overcome a guardian without having to pay its associated resources so that is a very powerful way to deal with guardians on the board that might cost things that you are not wanting to spend all right red is done which means we can go again and we currently have two coins i think let's spend these to buy another item which means we can buy the parent or the carrier pigeon now we do have an artifact which gives us a two tablet discount when we are exploring in the research track although it does cost a tablet to play so gaining more tablets is a good idea also the parrot would give us a jewel and many of the research spots in the temple require jewels so that is also a real consideration both of these seem good but i think we are going to go with the carrier pigeon after that we can slide all of these items down and reveal the new one this is a lantern it provides a car style transportation and it says you can activate any of the basic dig sites at the bottom of the board when you play this you can do that even if the location's action spots are full of archaeologists that is these five down here because they each have that icon which matches up with the icon on the card next up we can put the carrier pigeon to the bottom of our deck and now i think the yellow player can go in this case they are going to buy an item and spend two coins and that's going to be the parrot after that all of these are going to slide down and the next one is an automobile it has a bonus effect of getting two exploration tokens after that the parrot will go to the bottom of their deck and then they've decided they are going to play this card as a bonus action that is just going to give them an exploration token moving on it's now the red player's turn and they are going to spend this jewel to research one spot on the temple track in this case they want to move their research book up here which is going to cost that joule and it's worth noting once again that the research books can never go to a higher row than the magnifying glass but they are allowed to be in the same row even if they aren't on the same location now after they've moved up here they can take the associated bonus for the research book and that lets them gain a new assistant the assistants are down here and at the start of the game we made three equal piles of them now whenever you gain an assistant it starts on the silver side they all have a golden side on the back which is better and i'll talk about how you flip an assistant later on in the tutorial in this case the red player can take any of these three assistants this first one is a bonus action and it lets you draw a card but then you do have to use up a card in your hand this one here says you can take an exploration token or gain one card transportation icon finally this one is not a bonus action instead for your full turn you can buy an item or an artifact at a discount of one coin or one exploration respectively now this is the one they've decided to take and as soon as they remove it you can see a new one is available to the next player to gain an assistant this one says for a free action you can spend a boot icon in order to get one arrowhead next up red can place this assistant into one of their two spots and they do it with the standard orientation and later on in this round if they want to they can use this assistant for its full turn effect all right they are done with their turn this means it's our turn and at the moment we have no resources or archaeologists and we have a single exploration card in our hand now it's worth noting we don't have to play all the cards in our hand at the end of the round we can optionally keep as many as we want or discard any that we don't want into our pile before we reset and to draw a new hand now i think let's just use the exploration card for its bonus action that will give us one exploration token which we can use in the next round possibly and at this point we are going to pass there are no other full turn actions that i want to take and now that we have passed we will not take any more full turn or bonus turn actions for the rest of the round next up the yellow player can go and for a bonus action they are going to play this exploration card that is going to give them one exploration token and then they are going to buy an artifact which is going to cost all three of these tokens once again the cost is in the bottom left corner and the only artifact option is the cleansing cauldron which does indeed cost three now after they buy that a new artifact will come out this is a serpent idol and it's relatively cheap at two of these exploration tokens and when you play it you get a jewelry which is hard to come by but you also gain a fear card next up yellow will immediately play their artifact and that lets them draw a card into their hand and then if they want to they can exile a card from their hand or from their played area now they are certainly going to use this to exile the fear card they gained earlier on in the round and that has finished up their turn this means red can go and for a bonus action they are going to play their funding card to give them one coin after that for their main action they are going to use their assistant once again this assistant does not have a bonus action so it will take their whole turn once again this lets them take an item or an artifact at a discount of one of the associated resource and they are going to spend these two coins along with this discount to buy a three cost item now whenever you use an assistant you then tilt them sideways with three coins available they could take this automobile or this lantern and they've decided to take the lantern so that is going to go to the bottom of their deck and then of course this will slide over and we will get a new item this is sturdy boots it says when you play it you get an exploration token and then you can send an archaeologist out to a dig site with a discount of two boots this means it would be our turn but of course we have passed so that means yellow can go and even though they have a card in their hand that they just drew they are actually going to pass as well that means red can go again and they are going to play this card to gain one exploration token as a bonus action and then for their main action they are going to pass this means all players have now passed which means it's now time to start setting up for the next round of the game the first thing that we have to do is reset our board and the first part of that involves taking all of our archaeologists back from the board and we put them back onto our player area once again if you return an archaeologist from a spot that has a guardian on it then at that moment you take a fear card and you put it into your face up discard area in this case though yellow was able to overcome that guardian so they can pull this archaeologist back without taking another fear once we have potentially gained fear cards from guardians we now have to take all of the cards that are face up in our discard area we then shuffle them and then we put them to the bottom of our deck after that we can refresh any assistance that we have but of course we don't have any in front of us although the red player does so they can refresh their assistant and then shuffle up these cards and lastly the yellow player can shuffle although they do have one card in their hand and they've decided to optionally put it face up into their discard pile before they shuffle then it obviously did not make sense for them to keep this fear card in their hand so all of these will get shuffled up and put to the bottom of their deck after that it's time to advance the card row and the first thing that we do for this is exile both cards that are adjacent to the staff that means this serpent idol goes to the artifact exile area and the airplane goes to the item exile area that is unfortunate the effect on this one is pretty great it says you can send an archaeologist out with a discount of one plane when you go to a dig site and if you are discovering a new site this would give a discount of two exploration tokens unfortunately it was just a bit too expensive for players to take in the first round of the game once both cards have been exiled the staff of the moon will slide over one space and then we can refill the empty slots in and at this point you can see going into the second round there will now be two artifacts always available and only four items available instead of the five that we saw in the first round of the game before we move on let's take a closer look at these cards both of them cost three exploration tokens this first one right here says you can take two coins and then do a resource upgrade that means you can turn a tablet into an arrowhead or an arrowhead into a jewel the other artifact is a stone key it says you can move one of your idols on your player board from a slot back into your supply crates that means if the yellow player took this one they could return this back over there essentially giving them another point and also giving them another opportunity to do a bonus action so it seems likely the yellow player is going to be interested in picking up that stone key after that it's time to start the new round the way this works is we pass the starting player token clockwise to the next player and then each player will simultaneously draw five cards from the top of their deck well actions can start with the yellow players since they have the first player token and for their first action they have decided to use their once per game boat icon on this guardian they overcame and then they can send the archaeologist out to a boat or boot site in this case they would like to head over here and this is actually the spot that they discovered in the first round of the game now as you can see you don't have to spend expiration tokens when you go to visit a site that was explored earlier because everyone knows where it is so yellow has paid the cost for the boat and now they can take a jewel as well as an exploration token but unfortunately they will gain a fear into their played cards area so this is everything that they get and they are now done with their turn that means it's time for the red player to go and they've decided to play this fear card for the boot and they will use that for transporting one of their archaeologists in this case they've decided to head over here and that will give them two exploration tokens alright that's finished their turn which means we can go and let's start by taking a look at our hand now we knew that we were going to have both of the items we bought in the last round because they went to the bottom of the deck and obviously they were within the first five cards that we drew but we did get lucky to also bring our inscribed blade into our hand now since we want to play this from our hand we will need to spend a tablet to make that happen and currently we don't actually have any tablets in front of us fortunately we could play this carrier pigeon as a bonus action to get to tablets and i think odds are pretty good that we will end up doing that in fact i think let's do this for our very first action so we can start by playing the carrier pigeon and that will give us two tablets and that lightning bolt means that was a bonus action so now for our main action let's play the inscribed blade that is going to cost one tablet to activate and then we can research with a discount of either an arrowhead or two tablets so we actually have two options available to us we could use this discount to move this book up one space we could spend our one expiration token and have the discount of the arrowhead and that would give us one of these assistants the other thing that we could do is move our magnifying glass up that way we would discount the arrowhead and we could spend the other one of our tablets to pay for that tablet here and then we would get this as a bonus for being the first player to get to that spot i think that is going to be worth it to us so let's go ahead and do it so once again we have a discount of one arrowhead and then we will spend this tablet for that cost once we have moved up here we can take this token and we immediately cache it out so that will give us a tablet which can be this one right here and then we can leave this face down in our area now we can see that the magnifying glass bonus for this row will give us one exploration token which we can add to our cargo area and i feel like that was a pretty good first turn for the round our research action is done but before we move on i'd like to talk about the temple track in slightly more detail now as you can see there are more and more benefits along the side of the track and there are victory points and this is the amount of points that you get at the end of the game if your marker is in that specific row so if our magnifying glass was in this row that would be worth six points to us at the end of the game whereas if our notebook was in that row that would be worth four now the next thing to point out is this golden assistant icon whenever you get this bonus instead of taking a new assistant from the supply you instead choose an assistant that you already have and you flip it over to its upgraded side when you do this if the assistant was already exhausted they actually refresh so it's certainly a good idea to use your assistant before you upgrade them if you're planning on doing so the upgraded signs are all better as you can see this assistant that the red player has gives a two discount on either of those purchases instead of the discount of one on the silver side the next thing i'd like to point out about this temple track is what happens when you reach the top as you can see if you get your magnifying glass on either of these spots that is attached to this top area and if you are able to pay this cost of a coin an expiration token and a jewel you can then move your magnifying glass up and into the left most open slot on this track so the earlier you get up here compared to your opponents the more end-game victory points you will get now once you are up here with your magnifying glass in the future when you take research actions instead of bumping up your notebook you can now buy these temple tiles each of these two point tiles costs the resources printed underneath and if you want a six point tile you have to pay the resources for the two two value tiles that are directly underneath it so that means this right here would cost a jewel as well as an exploration token and an arrowhead and likewise if you want to buy the 11-point temple tile that is going to cost all of the resources underneath because that is at the top of the pyramid covering all of these tiles the last thing to point out is that when you bring your magnifying glass up to the spot you then can look through all of these bonuses and take the one that you want so that's another reason to get up here before your opponents because you get more choices next up the yellow player can go and they've decided to play this fear card from their hand to use the boot for transportation with this second archaeologist they'll head over here and when they dig at the site they will take two tablets from the supply well they've decided they are done with their turn so now the red player can go so they can take a look at their options and it looks like they've actually decided to use their assistant that lets them buy an artifact or an item with a discount of one and they are going to buy an item and as you can see they don't currently have any coins this means they can buy these sturdy boots for one minus one or zero coins and that will then go to the bottom of their deck after that the next card can be drawn this is a hot air balloon that says that you can exile this card when you send a archaeologist out with a discount of one plane and if you discover a new site you get a discount of three exploration tokens when you do it well they are done with their turn which means it's once again time for us to go now let's glance over here at the track because i think what i'd like to plan on doing is sending this notebook up over here to get a assistant in this round in particular this assistant in the middle looks pretty great for us and in order to do that we need a jewel currently the only way that we could get a jewel is by going over to the spot so i think let's play our fear card that lets us travel over there and then we have to use up one of these and the funding card is much less impactful than the army knife so let's use funding to be used up to get ourselves a jewel that we can then use hopefully on our next turn to move up there and get an assistant all right i think that's finished our turn so now yellow can go so they now have to figure out what they're going to do and it appears they have decided to play their cleansing cauldron from their hand this means they have to spend a tablet and then they can draw a card from the top of their deck and they can optionally exile a card from their hand or from their played area and they are certainly going to exile this fear card after that they've decided they are done with their turn this means red can go and they have decided to play their airdrop card that says they can exile this card to gain one item card and put it directly into their hand remember normally items go to the bottom of your deck so the airdrop will go into the exile pile and then they can add any of these four cards into their hand and they've decided they like the idea of the hot air balloon so that will go into their hand and the next card to come out is a brush that says that when you play this you gain one exploration token for each idol that you have up to three after that red decides that they don't want to do any bonus actions so they are done which means we now get to go now remember last turn we got this joule at a decent expense in order to move up on the research track so let's now do that we can spend this joule to move our notebook up into the spot and then the bonus for that area is going to give us one of these face up assistants now i think all three of them are good this one in particular is nice it lets you draw a card from the top of your deck but then you do have to use up a card in your hand so you're not gaining a card overall but you might get a better card than the one that you use up the upgraded side of this just lets you draw a card which is certainly nice over here this is a good way to get those arrowheads without potentially using your archaeologist but ultimately i think this one in the middle is too powerful getting an exploration token or a car transportation seems like a really good bonus action for us and the upgraded side gives two cars or a coin and an explorer token so we can put this over here and i think we are now done with our turn that means yellow is up and for bonus actions they've decided to play two of their exploration tokens that will bring them up to three tokens total and then for their main action they are going to buy an artifact and they are going to spend all three of these tokens then they can take one of these two artifacts and they certainly want the stone key after that we can replace this spot and that is a guardian's ocarina that says that when you play this you can return a placed archaeologist back to your board and each of your travel icons counts as an airplane for the rest of the round that's a very expensive artifact as you can see and that's because reusing one of your archaeologists can be a very powerful action next up they can place the stone key in their plate area and immediately activate it of course they do not pay the tablet cost because they did not play this from their hand now this says they can move one of their idols on their player board from a slot back into their supply crates so they can slide this back down over there and they can either leave it down there or they can potentially use this again to get another cheap one of those bonuses for just one victory point of course this is now going into their deck so they could potentially play this several more times as the game goes on alright that's finished their turn which means the red player can go and if they have decided to play this hot air balloon they just picked up on their last turn now if you remember that says if they exile this card they can then send one of their archeologists out to a site and they have a discount of one plane it says if they are discovering as they send this out then they get a discount of three exploration tokens and that is indeed what they are going to do so this card will be exiled and with it they are going to explore here and as you can see that has a cost of six exploration tokens well they got three from this hot air balloon and they also have three on their board so they can spend those that means they have paid their six and they have decided they want to go over here that is going to cost two of the cars for transportation and of course this hot air balloon that they exiled gives them one plane which counts as a car so now they need one more car and they're going to get it by playing this funding card from their hand which does indeed have a car in the top so that means they have now paid everything that they need to explore over here and that also means they get to take both of these idols now this one is face down and they never look at it while this one has a face up bonus they can immediately take let's take a closer look at that icon and as you can see it shows an assistant of silver or gold color that is being tilted back to the left now that means you can refresh one of your assistants so they are going to do that and then of course this will flip over where it is worth three points just like all of the idols this means the red player has the possibility of doing two bonus actions to activate these up here although of course each one of those is going to cost them an increasing number of points now that they've taken their idols they can draw the top tile from the level 2 stack as well as the top guardian and then they can place these into that area now this site says when you activate it you draw a card you get a tablet and you get a jewel and then the guardian is a gigantic spider now that says in order to overcome it you have to use up a card from your hand spend a coin and spend an arrowhead it's worth noting that most of the guardians cost an arrowhead although there are a couple that don't next up blue can now dig at the site so they will draw a card gain a tablet and get a jewel overall that was a very powerful action all right they are now done with their turn which means it's now our turn now i think what we should do is play our army knife from our hand and that lets us choose two different options we can exile a card gain a coin gain an exploration token or a tablet in this case i think let's use the exile to get rid of this fear card from our deck and then let's also grab an exploration token we can add that right over here and that was our main action so at this point we are done with our turn that means the yellow player can go and they have decided to spend this jewel to do research at the temple and then with that cost paid they can move their notebook up here and as a reward take one of these assistants now they've decided to take this one here that lets them as a bonus action spend a boot in order to gain an arrowhead and the one revealed underneath it simply gives coins they can place that on their board and that has finished up their turn so the red player can go and they've decided to spend their jewel to research at the temple and that pays for this cost here so their magnifying glass will head to that location they will then get this bonus and they will also get one exploration token for their magnifying glass in that row after that they have to use this bonus which lets them draw the top card from their deck well we are next and at this point i think let's explore in the level one area we can do that because we have the three exploration tokens we need we have the archaeologist and we can use our assistant to give us one car transportation that means we can head over to any of these four spots so we have to look at the idols to see which one we want to grab there are two that give a coin there's one that gives an exploration token and one that gives a tablet now i think having the tablet is probably going to be best at this point so let's head over here and explore this site before we do anything we can flip this over and take a tablet and then put both of these into our cargo area next up we have to draw the top tile from the one stack as well as the top guardian and then place them on the spot so the action that we got is oh that's interesting it looks like there's a crashed airplane there the action lets us take two exploration tokens or we could buy any item card on the market without paying any coins for it now the guardian that we found at the site is a large monkey and it looks like that monkey likes gold the only way to overcome them is by giving them four coins which at the moment we certainly don't have well we can now activate this site and i think let's take the free item with this in mind we can take any of these four items all of them are expensive although two of them cost four versus three so i think these are the ones we are interested in now this revolver does seem pretty nice spending one exploration token to instantly overcome any guardian uh regardless of its tokens it does seem good the unfortunate thing is if we bought this revolver it would go to the bottom of our deck and we would likely not be able to draw into it this round to be able to use it to get rid of that monkey so instead i think let's go with the horse that is versatile it gives a coin as well as an exploration token and it lets us draw one card and at this point we have some pretty good cards in our deck so drawing into more is definitely a good thing so we can put the horse to the bottom of our deck and i would like to note that if you ever go to draw a card but you don't have any cards in your deck then you don't actually draw anything the only time you ever shuffle up your discard pile is at the end of the round next up we have to slide these over and draw a new item this is a large backpack it costs three coins and when you play it you get a coin and then you draw a card from the bottom of your deck that is interesting remember when you gain new items they go to the bottom of your deck so you can use your large backpack to then draw that into your hand within the same round that you bought the item that seems quite powerful overall and at this point we have finished our turn that means yellow can go and for a bonus action they want to use their assistant that lets them spend a boot in order to get one arrowhead and they are going to play this parrot now they picked up this item in the first round and they were planning on using it to get another jewel but that does cause them to use up another card and at this point they've decided it's better to use this boat as a boot in order to get that arrowhead in this moment so this will be played out in front of them and now they can get the arrowhead as a free action and now they are going to research on the temple track and spend this arrowhead along with this tablet as you can see that is the cost for them to move their magnifying glass up they won't get any bonus tiles because of course we got there first and then they can take the magnifying glass reward for the row which will be one exploration token after that they are done with their turn so the red player can go and it looks like they still have a bunch of cards in their hand for their main action they've decided to play the lantern item that says they can activate any of the base level sites on the board in this case they would like to activate that one which will give them one arrowhead all right that's finished their turn which means we can go and at the moment we don't have any cards in our hand now we could pass or we could use our idle as a bonus action to lose one point in order to take a arrowhead and then use all of these resources to go up once on the temple track i think this is probably going to be worth it so let's go ahead and spend that idle and now as you can see this cost right here is two tablets and an arrowhead which we have we can then move up here and unfortunately there is no bonus token in here in a two or three player game if it was a four player game then there would be one now the main reason we are doing this is because it puts us ahead of our opponents to try and jump on one of these bonuses in the next round because we're not going to have the resources in this round to continue up and also as a reward we will get another exploration token for having our magnifying glass up there well that's finished our turn so yellow can go and it looks like they have decided to simply play a funding card out in order to get a coin and that was a bonus action so for their main action they are going to pass it doesn't look like they want to spend this to try and do anything out there on the research track that means it's now the red player's turn and they still have three cards in their hand even though one of their opponents has passed already despite the fact that they have so many cards they are not going to play any and instead they will spend this tablet as well as this arrowhead to research on the temple track as you can see this is the cost that they need to move their notebook up to the second level and then the reward for that is they can take a second assistant for one of the stacks after considering all of these options they want this one that will give them an exploration token or a boat and that revealed this one which lets you spend a coin to get an arrowhead next up they can place this assistant on their board and they are done with their turn at the moment this means it's our turn and at this point i can't see anything good for us to do so we are going to pass and then the yellow player has already passed so that means the red player can now continue to take turns until they have decided to pass as well so they can consider their options again and it looks like they want to spend this exploration card to get one explore token they will then use this assistant to get another explorer token and then for their main action they're going to use their top assistant to buy an item card or an artifact at a discount of one and in this case they are going to buy an artifact now we can see they currently have three of these tokens so when they include their discount they can spend up to four which means they have just enough to buy this guardian's ocarina so they can spend these tokens and then take the artifact before we move on we can bring out a new artifact this is a coconut flask it says when you play it you get two coins and then it says you can use the effect of the silver side of one assistant available on the supply board that means these stacks over here so playing the coconut flask will likely usually give you a few good options to choose from next up they can play the artifact they just bought which is the guardian's ocarina and it says they can return a placed archaeologist to their board and then each of the travel icons that they spend for the rest of the round counts as if they were planes in this case they've decided that they are definitely going to return this archaeologist they can put the archaeologist back on their board and that's finished their action but since all of their opponents have passed already they can now take another turn after considering their options they have decided to play both of these cards that they have in their hand for their travel icons that's a boot and a car but remember this guardian's ocarina says all of their icons count as planes so now they can use these two planes to send their archaeologist back to the same spot they explored earlier on in the round that's right over here so that means they can draw another card from the top of their deck then they will get a tablet and they will also get a jewel they can put these into their supply and then draw this card at the moment they have just one card left in their deck that's finished their turn and now they can take another turn and before they take a main action they've decided to do two idle bonus actions the first one is going to give them a single arrowhead and then the second one which covers up two points for them will give them a coin as well as an exploration token that means they just erased three points for themselves at the end of the game but they felt like this was going to be worth it because now they would like to overcome the guardian at the location with their archaeologist as you can see the cost involves them using up one card from their hand and that's going to be the one they just drew so they will play this out and gain no benefits for it and then they have to spend a coin as well as an arrowhead which they just picked up with those idle bonus actions so that means they've spent everything they need to in order to overcome this spider which will then go face up in front of them now as you can see the bonus in the top right corner says they can exile a card and it has a lightning bolt which means this is a bonus action and they've decided to use this immediately in order to exile one of the two fear cards that they have in front of them so this will go back to the board and at this point they could once again take another main action after considering all of their options they've decided to pass they do have some nice resources over here but those aren't quite enough for them to move up anymore on the temple track now that they have passed that means everyone is passed so we can start setting up for the next round of the game the first thing we all do is return our archaeologists back to our boards and unfortunately for us we were unable to overcome this guardian at the site with our archaeologist that means when they come back they are also going to come with a fear card which will go face up into our area and it's worth noting this guardian will hang out here so if nobody deals with it by the end of the next round and someone goes on to the spot then they would once again gain a fear this does mean people might go over here specifically to try and overcome the guardian though that is of course worth of five points at the end of the game and the bonus for this one gives you an upgrade turning a tablet into an arrowhead or an arrowhead into a jewel so this will go down here and now we can shuffle up all of these cards including that pesky fear card we just took and we will then put that underneath our deck at the same time the yellow player can do the same thing and they played a lot of cards in the second round of the game it looks like the red player also played significantly more cards than we did lastly we can all refresh our assistance and then it will be time to advance the card row that means both of the cards adjacent to the moon staff will be exiled and then after that the staff will move to the right this can then slide over and now we have to reveal two more artifact cards it looks like the effects on both of these are rather simple the war club simply lets you defeat a guardian where one of your archaeologists is and the ceremonial rattle lets you refresh one of your assistants at this point you can see going into the third round of the game that there is going to be a balance between the cards there are three artifacts available and there will be three item cards available finally the starting player marker can move clockwise and then each player can simultaneously draw five cards from the top of their deck to start the third round of the game now i'm going to stop playing through the game at this point and instead i would like to discuss what happens once the game is over once again that happens after we complete all five rounds of the game and once that fifth round is over the only extra thing that we have to do is return all of our archaeologists and potentially gain fear cards if there were guardians at those spots once we've done that we can then move into final scoring in order to facilitate scoring the game does come with a notepad and it is split into six rows the first one says we will score points for our positions of our magnifying glasses and our notebooks on the track in this example we would get 23 points for our magnifying glass and four points for the notebook red would get 21 for the magnifying glass and eight for their notebook and a yellow would get 12 for their magnifying glass and a six for their notebook after that we will all gain points for any of these temple tiles that we were able to gather before the game ends and then we can move on and score for our idols the way this works is we will each get three points for every idol that we have no matter where it is on our board and then we will also get all of the points that are not covered up on this idle track so in this example the red player would get 12 points for their idols plus another seven for these not covered up spots after that each player will get five points for every overcome guardian they have in front of them for example the yellow player would get five plus five plus five you do get the points even if you didn't end up using the bonus on that card so this would be 15 points for them after that it's then time to score for our cards we will gain points for each of our item and artifact cards that are within our overall deck and we will lose one or two points for each of the fear cards that we have remember you lose two points if you have a fear token in front of you because the feared deck of cards ran out now that means we take all of the cards from wherever they are and then we simply pull out the ones that are worth victory points so in this example we would be getting four points for our items and artifacts and minus two points for the two fear cards we have in our deck after that we simply add up all of the points and whoever has the most victory points total will be the winner well at this point i have covered just about all of the rules to the game which means this tutorial has come to a close i do want to point out that on the back side of this board there is an alternate map that has a different and a slightly more punishing research track but i'm not going to be describing the details of that in this video on that note i hope you've enjoyed learning how to play lost ruins of arnac as always i'd like to thank
