hello and welcome back to my cribs we're gonna be reading chapter 8 gift for the darkness I think this will be a lot less boring than the last chapter fingers crossed mm hey II looked up miserably from the dawn pale Beach to the dark mountain are you sure really sure I mean I told you a dozen times now said Ralph we saw it I think we're safe down here how the hell should I know Ralph jerked away from him and walked a few paces along the beach back was kneeling and drawing a circular pattern on the sand with his forefinger his voice came to them hushed are you sure really go up and see he said Jack contemptuously and good riddance no fear the Beast had teeth said Ralph and big black eyes he shuddered violently he took off one one round of glass and polished the surface what we gonna do Ralph turned towards the platform the conch glimmered among the trees a white blob against the place where Sun would rise he pushed back his mop I don't know remember the panic flight down from the mountainside I don't think we'd ever fight a thing that size honestly you know we talked about we wouldn't fight a tiger we'd hide even jacket hide Jack still looked at the sand what about my hunters iemon came stealing out of the shadows by the shelters Ralph ignored Jack's question he pointed to the touch of yellow above the scene as long as necessary we're brave enough but then and now the thing that squats by the fires though it didn't wanted us to be rescued is twisting his hands now unconsciously his voice rose but we can't have a signal fire we're beaten a point of gold appeared above the sea and it once all the sky lightened what about my hunters boys armed with sticks back out to his feet his face is red and marched away piggy but on his one glass and looked at Ralph now you've done it you've been rude about his hunters now shut up a sound of us and expertly blown conch interrupted them as though he were surrett serenading the Rising Sun back went on blowing till the shelter's were astir and the hunters CLEP crept up on the platform and the little ones whimpered is now there so frequently dead Ralph throws obediently in piggy as they went to the platform oxyde Ralph bitterly talk talk talk he took the card from Jack this meeting Jack interrupted him I called it who hadn't called it I should have just blew the conch well isn't that just calling it Oh take it go on talk Ralph trust the constant it rustic on chin to Jack's arm and since that down on the trunk I've called an assembly said Jack there's a lot of things for a lot of things first you know now we've seen the beast we crawled up we were only a few feet away he sat up and looked at us I don't know what it does we don't even know what it is the Beast comes out of the sea out of the dark trees Wyeth shouted Jack you listen a beast is sitting up there whatever it is perhaps it's waiting hunting yes hunting hunting said Jack remembered his age-old tremors in the forest yes the Beast is a hunter only shut up the next thing is we should we could we couldn't kill it and the next is that Ralph said my hunters are no good I never said that I've got the cards Ralph thinks you're cowards running away from the boar and the beasts and that's not all there's a kind of sign on the platform as everyone knew what was coming Jack's voice went up tremulous yet determined pushing against the uncomfortable I pity he says things like piggy he isn't a proper Chief Jack clutched the conch to him he's a coward himself for a moment he paused that went on on top when Roger and me met Oh when Roger and me went on he stayed back I went to after the two boys glared at each other through the screams of hair that went on to said Ralph then I ran away so did you owe me a coward then Jack turned to the hunters he's not a hunter he never have got us me he wasn't a prefect and we don't know anything about him gives orders and expects people to obey for nothing all this talk all this talk shouted Ralph talk talk who wanted it who called this meeting Jack turned red in the face his chin sunk back he glowered up under his eyebrows all right then he said in tones of deep meaning in menace all right he held up the conch against his chest with one hand and stabbed the air with his index finger who thinks Ralph ought to be chief he looked expectantly at the boys rank around food frozen under the palms was his deadly silence and ZUP said Jack strongly whoever wants Ralph not to eat chief a silence continued breathless and heavy and full of shame Polly the red drained from Jack's cheeks then came back with a painful rush he licks his lips and then turned his head in an angle so the gaze avoided the embarrassment of linking with another eye how many think voice trailed off the hands that held the conch shook he cleared his throat and spoke loudly all right then he laid the conch with great care on the grass at his feet humiliating tear tears are running from the corner of each eye I'm not gonna play any longer not with you most of the boys were looking down now at the grass on their feet or their feet that clear desert again I'm not gonna be a part of Ralph's lot he looked along the right-hand logs numbering the hunters that have been the choir I'm going boss by myself he can catch his own pigs anyone wants to hunt when I do can come too he blundered out of the triangle towards the drop to the white sand back back turn and look back at Ralph for a moment he paused then cried out high-pitched and raged no he left down from the platform and ran along the beach paying no heed to the steady fall of his tears and until he dived into the forest Ralph washed him kingi was indignant I've been talking Ralph and you just stood there like roughly looking at piggy and not seeing him Ralph spoke to himself oh come back the Sun Goes Down he'll come he looked at the conch and piggy sand what well there he gave up an attempt to rebuke Ralph he polished his glass again and went back to his subject we can do without Jack Merridew there's others besides him on silent but now we really got to get a beast now I can't hardly believe it we'll need to stay close to the platform nobody will leave they'll be less neat a feminist hunting now we can really decide on what's what there's no help piggy nothing to be done or while they sat in to press silence then Simon stood up and took the conch from piggy who was so astonished that he remained on his feet Ralph looked up at Simon Simon what is it this time a half sound of cheering ran around the circle and Simon shrank from it I thought there might be something to do something we again the pressure of the Assembly shook his voice away he sought for help and sympathy in close and shows piggy turned half towards him clutching the shock conch to his brown chest I think we ought to climb the mountain a circle shivered with dread Simon broke off and turned to piggy was looking at him with an expression of the RISM in comprehension what's the good of climbing up up to this here beast when Ralph and the other two couldn't do nothing Simon whispered his answer what else is there to do a speech made he allowed piggy to lift the conch out of his hands then he retired and sat as far away from the others as possible that he was speaking now with more assurance and what if the circumstances have not been so serious the other sort of recognized as pleasure I said we could all do without a certain person now I say we gotta decide on what can be done I think I could tell you what Ralph's going to say next most important thing on the island is the smoke and you can't have no smoke without fire Ralph made a restless movement no go piggy we've got the fire we've got no fire that thing sits up there we'll have to stay here and he lifted the conch as though he had power to his next words got no fire on the mountain well what's wrong with fire down here our could be built on them rocks in the sand even you'd want smoke just the same that's right Moke by the bathing pool boys the end of Babel only puggy piggy could have the intellectual daring to suggest moving the fire from the mountain so we'll have the fire down here said Ralph he looked about him and build it just here between the bathing pool in the platform of course he broke off browning picking things out unconscious the stub of a nail between his teeth of course the smoke won't show so much not be seen so far away we needn't go near near the other not in perfect comprehension there be no need to go near will be that we'll build a fire now the greatest ideas are the simplest now that there was something to be done they worked with passion he was so full of delight and expecting liberty an expanding Liberty in Jack's departure Oh forth pride his contribution to the good of society that he helped to fetch wood the wood he fetched was close at hand a fallen tree on a platform that they did not need for the assembly get to the others the sanctity of the platform had protected even what was the useless there well then the twins realized they would have fire near to them as a comfort in the night miss said a few little limbs dancing and clapping hands boy it was not so dry as the fuel they had used on the mountain much of it was damp li rotten and fulled insects of scurried logs had to be lifted from the soil with care or they crumbled in a sodden powder more than this in order to avoid going deep into the forest the boys work near to land on a fallen wood no matter how tangled with the new growth skirts of the forest and the scar familiar near the conch and his shelters is sufficiently friendly in daylight but they might become in darkness nobody cared to think they worked therefore with great energy and cheerfulness though his time crept by there was suggestin of panic and the energy and hysteria and the cheerfulness it built a pyramid of leaves and twigs branches and logs on the bare sand by the platform for the first time in the island he removed his one glass knelt down and focused sun on tinder soon there was a ceiling of smoke in a brush of yellow flame Mullins who had seen a few fires since the catastrophe became wildly excited they danced and sung there in the partyish air about the gathering at last Ralph stopped work and stood up smudging the sweat from his face from the dirty floor arm what well have to have a small fire this one's too big to keep up piggy sat down carefully on the sand and began to polish his glass we can experiment you'll find how make tit how to make a small hot fire and then put green branches on to make smoke some of them leaves might be better for that than the others as the fire died down so did the excitement a little and stopped singing and dancing and drifted away towards the sea or the fruit trees or the shelters Ralph's trapped down in the sand blast to make a new list of who's to look after the fire if he can find him he looked round then for the first time he saw how a few big uns are there and understood why the work had been so hard where's Maurice he wiped his glass again I expect now he wouldn't go off to the forest by himself would he Ralph jumped up ran swiftly around the fire and stood by piggy holding up this hair we've got to have a list there's you me and stem narak and he would not look at piggy let's poke Ashley where's Bill and Roger piggy leaned forward and put a fragment of wood on the fire I expect they've gone I expect they won't play either Ralph sat down and began to poke little holes in the sand you surprised to see that one had a drop of blood buy it examined is bitten now closely and watched the little blob of blood that gathered where the quick was not away piggy went on speaking I've seen them stealing off and we was gathering wood they went that way the same way as he went off himself where I'll finished his inspection and looked up into the air disguise as if in sympathy with the great changes among them was different today so misty in some places the hot air seemed white the disk of the Sun was a dull silver as though it were nearer and not so hot at the air stifled they'd always been making trouble haven't they boys came down near shoulders and sounded anxious we can do without him we'll be happier now won't we Ralph's at the twins came dragging a great log and grinning in their triumph they dumped a log among the embers the sparks flew we can do all right on our own can't we for a long time when the log dried caught fire and turned red-hot Ralph's at my sin and said nothing did not see piggy go into the twins and whispered to them nor how the three boys went together into the forest here you are him to himself with a jolt in the other two or by him they were laden with fruit I thought perhaps said piggy we ought to have a feast kind of three boys sat down they had great mass of the fruit with him and it's properly right ripe they grinned at Ralph as he tuck someone began to eat thanks he said then with an accent of pleasured surprise thanks bill all right on our own said piggy it's them that haven't got no common sense to make trouble on this island we'll make a little hot fire Ralph remembered that he had been what had been worrying him or Simon I don't know you don't think he's climbing the mountain he broke into noisy laughter that too and took more fright oh and then took more fruit he might be he gulped his mouthful he's cracked Simon had passed through the area fruit trees but today the little ones have been too busy with a fire on the beach they had not pursued him there he went on among the creepers until he reached the great mat and was woven by the open space crawled inside beyond the screen of leaves on the sunlit pelted down on the butterflies danced in the middle of their unending dance he knelt down in the era of the Sun fell on him at another time the air had seemed to vibrate with heat but now it threatened when the sweat was running for his long coarse hair he shifted restlessly but there was no avoiding the Sun presently he was thirsty and then very thirsty he continued to sit her off along the beach Jack was standing before a small group of boys he's looking brilliantly happy hunting he said he size them up each of them more wore the remains of a black cap and the ages ago they had Stern and to the mirror rose their voices have been songs of angels well hunt I'm going to be chief they nodded in the crisis passed easily and then about the Beast it moved looked at the forest I say this aren't gonna bother about the beast you know that them we're gonna forget about the beast that's right yes forget the Beast if Jack was astonished by their fervor he did not show it and another thing you can't dream so much down here this is near the end of the island they agreed passionately are the depths of their tormented private lives now listen we might go later to Castle Rock but now I'm gonna get more of the big uns away from the conch and all that will kill the pig and get a feast he paused and went one more slowly about the Beast when we kill it will leave some of the kill for it they won't bother us maybe he stood up abruptly but going to the forest now and hunt he turned and trotted away after a moment they followed him obediently they spread out nervously in the forest almost at once jack found the dung and scattered roots to the told of a pig consumed the track was fresh back signaled the rest of the hunt to be quiet and went forward by himself he was happy and wore a damp darkness of the forest like his cold clothes he crept down the slope to rocks and scattered trees by the see the pigs lay bloated bags of fat then she was enjoying the shadows under the trees there was no win and they were inconspicuous and practice had made Jack sound as the shadows he stole away again and instructed his hidden hunters presently they all began to inch forward sweating in a silence and heat under the trees and ear flipped idly a little apart from the rest sunk in a deep a term eternal bliss lay in the largest South a lot it was black and pink and all the great bladder for Bali was fringed with a roll of piglets it slept her burrowed and squeaked fifteen yards from the drove back stopped in his arms straight and pointed at the sound he looked round an inquiry make sure that everyone understood that the other boys nodded at him her over eight arms slid back now the drove of pig started up in a range of only ten yards the wooden Spears were the fire hardened points blue towards a chosen pig one piglet with a demented shriek rushed into the sea trailing Rogers spear behind it a sow gave a gaping gasping squeal and staggered up with two Spears sticking in her fat flank the boys shouted and rushed forward the piglets scattered in the South bursts the advancing line and went crashing away through the forest after her they raced along the pig track but the forest was too dark and tangled so Jack cursing stopped them and cast among the trees then he said nothing for a time but brief so fiercely they were awed by him and they looked at each other with uneasy admiration presently he snapped down at the ground with his finger there before the others could examine the drop of blood jack had swerved off trudging a trace touching a bough that it gave I followed mysteriously right and the shirt Hunter's trod behind him he stopped before a covert in there they surrounded the covert but the Sal got away with a sting of another spear in her flank trailing BOTS hindered her and the sharp cross cut points for the torment he blundered into a tree forcing a spear still deeper and after that any of the hunters could follow her easily by the drops of vivid blood the afternoon wore on hazy in dreadful with a damp heat now staggered her way but ahead of them bleeding and mad and now the hunters followed wedded to her in lust excited by the long chase and dropped blood they could see her now nearly got up with her she's flirting with her last strength and held ahead of them again they were just behind her when she staggered into an open space for the bright flowers grew and the butterflies dance round each other in the air was hot and still here struck down by the heat the South fell and the hunters hurled themselves at her it's dreadful eruption from an unknown world made her frantic he squealed and bucked in the air was full of sweating noise and blood and terror Rogers around ran round the heap rotting with his spear whenever Pig flesh appeared dak was on top of the sows stabbing downwards with his knife Roger found a lodgment first point and began to push still he was leaning with his whole weight spear moved forward an inch by inch and the terrified squealing became a high-pitched scream then Jack found the throat and hot blood swatted OH spouted over his hands a sound collapsed under him and they were heavy and fulfilled upon her the butterfly is still danced preoccupied in the center of the clearing at last the immediacy of the kill subsided the boys drew back and jack sit up holding out his hands look he gave out and flicked them while the boys laughed at his reeking palms then Jack grabbed Maurice and rubbed the stuff for wrist cheeks Roger began to withdraw his spear and the boys noticed it for the first time Robert stabilized the thing in a phrase that was received uproariously right up her ass did you hear did you hear what he said right up her ass this time Robert Maurice acted the two parts and Maurice acting of a pig's efforts and avoid the advancing spear was so funny that the boys cried with laughter at length even the pale even this paled dak began to clean his bloody hands on the rock then he started work on the sow and he punched her legging out the hot bag some colored guts and pushing him into a pile in the rock where the others watched him he talked as he worked well take the meat along the beach I'll go along to the platform and invite them for the feet to a feast that should give us time Roger spoke chief uh how can we make a fire jack squat it back and frowned at the pig raid them and take fire there must be four of you Henry and you and Maurice and Robert and Maurice well put on a painter paint and sneak up Roger can snack neat snatch a branch why say what I want the rest of you can get this back where you were we'll build a fire there and after that he paused and stood up looking at the shadows under the trees Joyce was lower when he spoke again we'll leave part of the kill for he knelt down again it was busy with his knife the boys crowded round him spoke over shoulder to roger sharpen a stick of both ends presently he stood up holding the dripping sounds head in his hands where's that stick here Ram one end in the earth oh it's rock jam in that crack there Jack held up the head and jam the soft rope down on the pointy end of the stick which pierced through into its mouth he stood back at the head and the head hung there a little blood dripping down the stick instinctively the boys drew back to when the forest was very still they listened and allowed us noise as a buzzing of flies some of us spoke no guts Jack spoke in a whisper pick up the pig Maurice and Robert skewed the carcass lifted the dead weight and stood ready in silence the standing over the dry blood they looked suddenly furtive Jack spoke loudly this head is for the Beast the gift silence accepted the gift and awed them the head remain there Tim I'd grinned faintly blood blackening beneath it between the teeth all I wants they were running away as fast as they could to the forest towards the open beach diamond stayed where he was a small brain image concealed by the leaves even if he shut his eyes the sows head still remained like an after image the half-shut eyes were dim in the infinite cynicism of adult life they sure do I mean that everything was a bad business I know that time to discover that he spoken aloud he opened his eyes quickly there was a head grinning him usually in the strange daylight ignoring the flies the spilled guts even ignoring me and dignity being spiked on a stick he looked away licking his dry lips yes for the Beast why not that being the Beast come for it the head he thought appeared to agree with him run away said the head soundly go back to the others the joke really why should you bother you're just wrong that's all a little headache something you ate perhaps go back child said the head silently Dimon looked up feeling the weight of his wet hair and gazed up at the sky up there for once were clouds great bulging towers that spouted away over the island rain cream and copper colored the clouds were sitting on the land they squeeze produce moment by moment this clothes tormenting heat even the butterflies that started the open space for the obscene thing grinned and ripped I'm in lowered his head carefully keeping his eyes shut then sheltered them of the sand there were no shadows under the trees but everywhere a pearly stillness though it real seemed elusive and without definition I loved guts was a black blob of flies a buzz like a saw after a while those flies found Simon gorged they alighted by his Runnels of sweat and drink they trickled under his nostrils and played leapfrog on his thighs there were black iridescent green and without number in front of Simon the Lord of the Flies hung on a stick and grinned at last Simon gave up and looked back saw white teeth and dim eyes the blood and his gaze was followed by an ancient Miss capable recognition in Simon's right temple a pulse began to beat on the brain Ralph and piggy lay in the sand gazing at the fire idly looking pebbles into its smokeless heart that branch has gone where Sam and Eric we got to get some more wood we're out of green branches Ralph sighed and stood up there were no shadows under the palm of the platform we the strange late that seemed to come from everywhere at once I up among the bulging clouds Thunder went off like a gun we're gonna get buckets of rain what about the fire Ralph trotted into the forest and returned with a wide spray of green which he dumped on a fire that branch crackled the leaves hurled in the yellow smoke expanded he made a nameless little pattern in the sand with his fingers trouble is we haven't got enough people for a fire gotta treat Sam and Eric as one turn they do everything together of course well that isn't fair don't you see now to do two turns Ralph consider this and understood he was vexed to find how little he thought of him like a grown-up inside again guilin was still getting worse and worse he looked at the fire you'll want another green branch soon Ralph rolled over thank you what are we gonna do have to get on without him at the fire he frowned at the black and white mess with which lay on burnt ends of branches he tried to formulate erred not piggy look up and blundered on now the Beast I mean I'm scared of that too but nobody else understands about the fire someone threw you a rope when you were drowning if a doctor take this because you don't take it you'll die you would wouldn't you I mean horse I would if they see he can't they understand without the smoke signal we'll die here look at that a wave of heated Eric's emerald from above the ashes yeah from above the ashes without a trace of smoke can't keep one fire going and they don't care and what's more he looked intensely into Piggy's streaming face what's more I don't sometimes was that guy like the others not caring what'll become of us if he took off his glasses deeply troubled I don't know Ralph we just got to go on that's all that's what grown-ups would do Ralph's having begun the business of unburdening himself continued piggy what's wrong they looked at him in astonishment you mean no not it I mean what makes things break up like they do piggy rub his glasses slowly and thought when he understood how far Ralph and on towards accepting him he flushed Pinkley with pride I don't know Ralph I expect it's him jack-jack a taboo who was revolving around the word - Ralph nodded solemnly yes he said I suppose it might be a forest near the near them burst into an uproar demonic figures with faces of white and red and green rushed out howling so the little uns fled screaming out of the corner of his eyes Ralph saw Piggy running two figures rushed at the fire you're prepared to defend himself they grabbed half burnt branches and raced along the beach there the others stood watching Ralph and he saw the tallest of them stark naked save for the paint Annabelle was Jack Ralph out of breath had his breath back and spoke well doc ignored him lifting a spear and began to shout listen all of you being my hunters we're living along the beach by Flat Rock we hunt and feasts and have fun you want to join my tribe come and see us perhaps I'll let you join perhaps not he paused and look around he was safe from shame or self-consciousness behind the mask of his pain and he could look at each of them in turn Ralph was kneeling by the remains of a fire like a sprinter at his mark his face was half hidden by hair and smut Sam and Eric peered in together around the palm tree at the edge of the forest a little and howled creased in crimson by the bathing pool and piggy stood on the platform the white conscript in his hands and I were having a feast we've killed a pig and we've got meat you can come and eat with us if you like up in the clouds canyons and thunder boomed again died acting at two anonymous savages with him swayed looking up and then recovered little uns went on howling back was waiting for something he whispered urgently to the others go on now a two sandwiches murmured back spoke sharply go on two sandwiches looked at each other race their spears together and spoke in time the chief has spoken the three of them the three of them turned and trotted away presently Ralph rose to his feet looking at the place where savages had banished Emin Eric came Hawking an odd whisper I thought it was and I was aired piggy stood up above them on a platform still holding the conch that was Jack and Maurice and Robert said Ralph aren't they having fun I thought I was gonna have asthma next year asmar when I saw Jack I was sure he'd go for the conch I can't think why a group of boys looked all at the white cell with affectionate respect he placed it in Ralph's hand and little and seeing the familiar symbol started to come back out here turn towards the platform feeling the need for ritual first went Ralph the white conch cradled then piggy very grave and then the twins and luhan's than the others sit down all of you they raided us for fire they're having fun but the Ralph's was puzzled by the shutter the flickered in his brain there was something he wanted to say than the shuttered come down but the error regarding him gravely now you're troubled by any doubts about his sufficiency Ralph pause push the idiot hair out of his eyes and looked at piggy but the oh the fire of course the fire he started to laugh and then stopped and became fluent instead the fire is the most important thing without the fire we can't be rescued I like to put a war paint and be a savage but we must keep the fire burning fire is the most important thing on the island because because he paused again and the silence became full of doubt and wonder he whispered urgently rescue oh yes without the fire we can't be rescued so he must stay by the fire and make smoke when he stopped no one said anything after the many brilliant speeches Thea made on this very spot Ralph's remark seemed lame given to the little ones last Villa has hands for the conch now I can't have a fire up there because we can't have a fire up there we need people to keep it going let's go to this forest and tell them the fire's heart on the rest of us and the hunting and all that being savages I mean must be jolly good fun davon Eric took the conch that must be fun like Bill says and he's invited us to a feast meat crackling I could do with some meat Ralph's held up a sin why shouldn't we get our own meat cleanse looked at each other bill answered I don't want to go into the jungle Ralph's grimaced he you know goes Hunter they're all hunters that's different don't spoke for a moment and then piggy muttered to the sand he little and sat solemnly thinking of me dribbling overhead the cannon boomed again and the dry palm fronds clattered and a sudden gust of hot wind you are a silly little boy said the Lord of flies just an ignorant silly little boy Simon moved his warm tongue but said nothing oh you agree said the Lord of the Flies aren't you just a silly little boy I'm an answered him in the same silent voice well then said the Lord of the Flies you'd better run off and play with the others they think you're batty you don't want Ralph to make your batty do you you like Ralph a lot don't you and Iggy and Jack diamonds head was tilted slightly up his eyes could not break away from the Lord of the Flies hung in the space before him what are you doing all out here alone aren't you afraid of me Simon shook there isn't anyone to help you only me and I'm the Beast diamonds mouth labored brought forth audible words eggs head on a stick Nancy thinking the Beast is something you could hunt and kill said the head for a moment or two the forest and all the other dimly appreciated places echoed with a parody of laughter who knew didn't you I'm part of you close close close I'm the reason why it's snowgo why things are the way they are the laughter shivered again come now said the Lord of flies get back to the others we'll forget the whole thing Simon's head wobbled his eyes were half closed as though he were imitating the obscene thing on the stick he knew that one of the times was coming on Lord of the Flies is expanding like a balloon this is ridiculous you know perfectly well you'll only meet me down there don't try to escape Simon's body was arched and stiff Lord of the Flies spoke in a voice of a schoolmaster this has gone quite far enough my poor misguided child you think you know better than I do there was a pause I'm warning you I'm going to get angry see you're not wanted understand we're gonna have fun on this island understand you're gonna have to have fun on this island then don't try it on don't try it on my poor misguided boy or else Simon found he was looking into a vast mouth there's blackness within blackness it's or else said the Lord of the Flies we shall do you see DAC and Roger and Maurice and Robert and Bill and Peggy and Ralph you see Timon was inside the mouth he fell down and lost consciousness beard okay so this has been an odd chapter basically the group split into two jacks split off with the two others like Maurice and one other I can't remember the name of Roger maybe Roger and Maurice maybe so he split off and he hunted something he's like we're not part of your group anymore your group sucks because he was like I want to be the leader of this group and nobody was like yeah we want you to be leader like no one rose their hand when he said who wants Ralph not to be the leader and so he ran off crying and then other people started joining him yes so now he was in his own group he's leading his own group and uhm the rest of them are just kind of living life to him in the regular area and Jack kind of went off by himself and so now that Jack's gone Ralph's like but not Ralph piggies like yay I finally have the freedom to be myself and not be constantly shut down any time I try and talk and so piggy is like let's do things that you haven't thought of yet how about we get a fire down here instead of up on the mountain with a monster how about we uh just have our own little feast of fruit and stuff how about we just have like a good little tight-knit thing where we don't hate each other all the time and we're also like I guess okay and Ralph's kind of like annoyed because he knows the fire is super important and now they can't have the fire on the mountain where he wanted it because it would be easier to see up in the mountain but oh well anyway so all this is everybody's kind of chilling and getting their lives together without jack and jack is with his guys and he's like how about we hunt and so they hunt and they catch the mother pig and they stab her a bunch of times and one of them stabbed her up the butt and kills her I guess and then they cut her throat and they chopped her head off and they pull out her guts and they leave her guts in her head as an offering to the monster of the Beast the Beast and so they like stick it on it put it on a stick and they leave it out and like this for the monster and then they scurry off and I like we're gonna need fire to cook all this meat that we just got and so I guess Jack convert gets a plan he's like all right so we're gonna steal fire from the others because we have no way to make our own fire and so this whole time Simon's actually sitting like in his like spot his little shelter thing that he built for himself that's kind of like in the angles that he occasionally goes to and he's just kind of sitting there Simon and he watches them like tear apart this pig and he sees the head just put on the stick and soon he ends up going through like an existential crisis but we'll get back to that so anyways tack runs off and he steals fire from the guys and he comes up with like completely naked except for a belt which is a weird thing to wear if you're gonna wear anything like why belts of all things you're not holding anything up anyway so he's got like pants all over his face and by paint I mean blood and probably mud and other things and so he runs out and there's still some fire and Jack's like we have meat and now we have fire you guys should come out and have a feast with us and so he runs off and then his guys were like as a chief commands and then he runs off and so there's a little discussion that happens now between Ralph and Piggy and piggies like I ran real quick to get the conch because I was worried you might steal the conch and Jack didn't steal the conch but anyways so they have a talk right then they're like okay so like going off and we'd all want to just go off and be savages and have our own fun times but what's really important is keeping this fire going because if we don't have a fire going we can't be rescued our is the most important thing and all this time there's like clouds building above them there's like thunder so it's kind of ominous it's not like okay I understand you want to be out there and you want to have fun all the time but like really we gotta this is the most important thing is being rescued it really is and everybody just needs to understand that and everybody like yeah I guess the most important thing is to be big and so anyway it's back to Simon he's just laying there like staring at this head that just got stuck on a pike ahead of the board he's kind of just like and I guess it's talking to them and it's like you'll never be accepted by everyone else they're all gonna laugh at you just like gonna carry and carry I don't know if you know carry you might be too young Stephen King did a book called Carrie where girls like got psychic powers but she's rejected by everybody and then her mom's voice echoes in her head they're all they're all gonna laugh you it doesn't matter that's not what this is this is something else story about it that's kind of how Simon's acting right now though he's kind of like freaked out and staring at a pig and kind of going crazy I don't know what he's gonna do like maybe he is care crazy cuz you said oh don't let this happen again so like maybe a psychotic breaks occasionally I don't know I'm excited to see what happens with Simon I hope he's the one that ends up being like crazy and changing the plot but maybe he won't be anyways well that's all that happened in this chapter it was a bunch of stuff that it was cool and it definitely makes up for how awful last chapter was so thanks for joining me guys and I'll catch you in the next one goodbye [Music] you [Music]
