hello and welcome back to my Creed's I'm Micha and today we're going to be continuing Lord of the Flies I'm on chapter 9 so what's happened is Simon might be going crazy while staring at a boar heads on a stick Jack has separated from the rest of the group and that's basically it so let's hop into it chapter 9 a view to a death over the island the build-up of clouds continued a steady current of heated air rose all day from the mountain was thrust at 10,000 feet revolving masses of gas piled upon the static until the air was ready to explode by early evening the Sun had gone and the brassy glare taken place of the clear daylight even the air that pushed in from a/c was hot and held no refreshment other strain from water and trees and pink surfaces of rock and the white and brown clouds brooded nothing prospered but the Flies who blackened their Lord and made spilt guts look like a heap of glistening coal when the vessel broke in Simon's nose and the blood gushed they slept him alone referring the pigs hi flavor for the running of the blood Simon's fit past into the weariness of sleep he lay in the mat of creepers while the evening advanced and their cannon continued to play the last he woke and saw dimly the earth were close by his cheek Billy did not move but he lay there and his face sideways on the earth his eyes looking dully before him then he turned over drew his feet underneath him and laid hold of the creepers to pull himself up when the creeper shook the flies exploded from the guts with a vicious note and clamped back on again Simon got to his feet the light was on earth Lord of the Flies hung on a stick like a black ball iemon spoke aloud to the clearing what else is there to do nothing replied Simon turned away from the open space and crawled through the creepers until he was in the dusk of the forest he walked early between the trunks his face empty of expression the blood was dry around his mouth and chin only sometimes he lifted the ropes of creepers aside and chose his direction from the trend of the land he mouths words heed not reach the presently the creepers for soon and the trees less frequently there was a scatter of pearly light from the sky down through the trees this was the backbone of the island the slightly higher land that lay beneath the mountain where the forest was no longer deep jungle here there were wide spaces in their sparse through the thickets and huge trees the trend of the ground led him up the forest open he pushed on staggering sometimes with his weariness but never stopping usual brightness has gone from his eyes and he walked with a sort of glum determination like an old man Buffett wind made him stagger and he saw that he was out in the open on rock under the brassy sky he found his leg for a week and his tongue gave him pain all the time when the wind reached the mountaintop he couldn't see anything happen a flicker of blue stuff against brown clouds he pushed himself forward in the wind came again stronger now huffing the forest heads until they ducked and roared diamond saw humph things suddenly sit up on top and looked down at him he had his face and toiled on the flies had found the figure to the lifelike movement would scare them off for a moment so they made a dark cloud around his head then as the blue material of the parachute collapsed the corpulent figure would bow forward eyeing a sly settled once more iemon felt his knees smacked the rock crawled forward and soon he understood angled line showed him the mechanics of this parody examine the white nasal bones on the teeth the colors of corruption he saw how pitilessly the layers of rubber and canvas held together the poor body that should be rotting away then the wind blew again and the figure lifted out and breathe loudly at him Ivan knelt on all fours and was sick so his stomach was empty then he took the lines in his hands and he freed them from the rocks and the figure from the windscreen dignity last he turned away and looked down at the beaches the fire by the platform appeared to be out or at least was making no smoke further along the beach beyond the little river and near a great slab of rock a thin trickle of smoke was climbing to the sky Timon forgetful of the flies headed his eyes of both his hands and peered at the smoke even at that distance is possible to see that most of the boys perhaps all the boys were there oh they had shifted camps away from the Beast assignment thought this he turned the poor broken thing that sat sinking by his side the Beast was harmless and horrible and the news must reach the others as soon as possible turn down the mountain as his legs gave beneath him even with great care the best he could do was stagger bathing said Ralph that's the only thing to do Nicky was inspecting the looming sky through his glass I don't like them clouds remember how it rained after he landed on rain again Ralph dived into the pool a couple of little ones were playing at the edge trying to extract comfort from a wetness warmer than blood Magee took off his glasses stepped firmly into the water and put them back on again Ralph came to the surface and squirted a jet of water at him I my spec said Peggy I got water on the glass I got to go out and clean him Ralph squirted again and missed he left at Peggy expecting him to retire meekly as usual on him and silence instead he beat the water with his hand stop it he shouted you hear furiously he drove the water into Ralph's face all right all right said Ralph keep your hair on he stopped breathing beating the water got a pain in my head I wish the air was cooler which the rain would come I wish we could go home he lay back against the sloping sand side of the pool his stomach protruded and the water dried on it Ralph squinted up at the sky one could guess the movement of the Sun by the progress of light patched among clouds he knelt down the water looked around where is everybody did you sat up perhaps they're laying in the shelter where Sam and Eric and bill he pointed beyond the platform that's four they've gone Jack's party let them go said Ralph uneasily I don't care just for some meat and for hunting said Ralph wisely and for pretending to be a tribe and putting on war paint and you stirred the sand under the water and did not look at Ralph absolutely out to go to Ralph looked at him quickly and Peggy blushed I mean to make sure nothing happens Ralph squirted water again long before Ralph and Peggy came up with Jack's lawd they can hear the party there's a stretch of grass in the place where the palms left a wide band of turf between the forest and the shore this one stepped down from the edge of the turf there's a white blown sand of the above high-water warmed right rotten blow that again was a rock that stretched away towards the lagoon beyond was a short stretch of sand and the edge of the water a fire burned on the rock and fat dripped from a roasting Pig eaten to me a roasting Pig meat into the invisible flames all the boys of the island except Piggy Ralph and Simon and two tending the pig or grow grouped on the turf they were laughing singing lying squatting or standing in the grass holding food in their hands but the judge by the greasy faces the meat eating was almost done I'm held coconut shells in their hands we're drinking from them before the party had started a great log had been dragged into the center of the lawn jack pained and garlanded sat there like an idol there were piles of meat on green leaves near him and fruit and coconut shells full of drink Peggy and Ralph came to the edge of the grassy platform and the boys say as they noticed them fell silent one by one till the only one boy next to Jack was talking then the silence intruded even there and Jack turn where he sat every time he looked at them and the crack little fire was the loudest noise over the droning of the reef ralph looked away and sam picking the ralph had turned to him accusingly but down his nod bone with a nervous giggle Ralph took an uncertain step pointed at a palm tree and whispered something inaudible to piggy then they both giggle like Sam lifting his feet high out of the sand Ralph started to stroll past he tried to whistle at this moment the boys who were cooking the first fire suddenly hauled off a great chunk of meat and ran with it towards the grass they bumped piggy who was burnt and yelled and danced immediately Ralph and the crowd of boys reunited and relieved by a storm of laughter pinky once more was the center of social derision that everyone felt cheerful and normal back stood up and waved a spear make them some meat boys with a spit gave Ralph and piggy each of six a succulent chunk it took the gift dribbling there stood a neat beneath the sky of thunderous brass that rang with the storm coming Jack wave disappear again does everybody eaten as much as they want there was still food left sizzling on wooden spits heaped on the green platters betrayed by his stomach Pig you threw a pics bone down on the beach and stooped for more tax book again impatiently as everyone eaten as much as they want it's home conveyed a warning given out in the pride of ownership the boys ain't faster while there was still time barring there was no immediate likelihood of a pause backroads from the log that was his throne and sauntered to the edge of the grass he looked down from behind his paint at Ralph and piggy they moved a little further off over the sand and Ralph watched the fire as he ate he noticed without understanding how the flames were visible now against it all light evening had come not with calm Beauty but with a threat of violence Jack spoke give me a drink Henry bought him a shell and he drank watching piggy and Ralph over the jagged rim how early in the brown swell of his forearms authority sat on his shoulder and chattered naziha like an ape all sit down boys ranged themselves in rows in the grass before him but Ralph and piggy stayed a foot lower standing on the soft sand Jack ignored them for a moment turned his mast down to the seat of boys and pointed at them with a spear who's going to join my tribe Ralph made a sudden movement that became stumble them the boys turned towards him I gave you food said Jack and my hunters will protect you from a beast who will join my tribe I'm chief said Ralph as you chose me we were going to keep the fire going now you run for food run after food you're an yourself shadow Jack look at the bone in your hands Ralph lit crimson I said you were hunters that was your job Jack ignored him again or join my tribe and have fun I'm chief said Ralph tremulously and what's about the fire and I've got the conch you haven't got it with you said Jack sneering he left it behind see clever and the conch doesn't count as this end of the island Allah wants the thunderstruck instead of a dull boom there was a point of impact in the explosion the conch counts here too said Ralph and all over the islands what are you gonna do about it then Ralph examined the rank of boys there's no help in them they look confused and sweating piggy whispered a fire rescue will join my tribe I will me I will although the conscious in Ralph breathlessly and : assembly a shanty writ he touched Ralph Ralph's wrist come away that's going to be trouble we've had our meet there's a blurred blink of bright light beyond the forest and the Thunder exploded again the blue ones started to whine big drops of rain fell among them making in vigil sounds when they struck wanna be a storm said Ralph you'll have rain like when we dropped here it was clever now where are your shelters what you're gonna do about that the hunters were we're looking uneasily at the sky flinching from the stroke of the drops a wedding of a restlessness set the boys swing and moving aimlessly the freckles occurring light came brighter and the blows of the Thunder were only just bearable little uns began to run about streaming Jack left onto the sand who are Dance come on dance he ran stumbling through the thick sin and open space of rock beyond the fire y'all between the flashes of light then lightning in the air was dark and terrible the boys followed him clamorously Roger became the pig grunting and gnarling a Jack who sidestepped the hunters took their Spears and the crooks took spits and the rest of the clubs of firewood a circling movement developed that in a chant while Roger mime the terrible Pig the little uns ran jumped on the outside of the circle again Ralph under the threat of the sky found themselves eager to take a place in the demented but partly secure society they were glad to touch the brown backs of the fence that hem the tear and made it governor ball you know the beasts cut her throat spill his blood movement became regular while the chant lost its first superficial excitement and began to beat like a steady pulse Roger ceased to be a pig and became a hunter so at the center of the ring Yad emptily some of the little and started a ring of their own and the complimentary circles went round and round as though repetition could achieve safety for itself there's a throb in the step of a single organism this dark sky was shattered by a blue-white scar and an instant later the noise was on them it's a blow of a gigantic whip with a chant rose in the tone of agony kill the Beast cut its throat spell its blood now to the terror Rose another thick urgent blind kill the Beast cut his throat spill his blood again the blue white scar dragged above him and the sulfurous explosion beat down a little and screamed and blundered about fleeing from the edge of the forest and one of them broke the ring of big uns in his terror him him the circle became a horseshoe the thing was crawling out of the forest it became darkly uncertainly that's not good English a shrill screaming that Rozen before the Beast was like a pain the Beast stumbled into the horseshoe kill the Beast cut his throat spill his blood the blue-eyed scar was constantly noise and Abul Simon was crying out something about a dead man on a hill hill a beast cut his throat spill his blood do him in sticks fell in the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed the Beast was on his knees in the centre and his farms folders over his face is crying out against the abominable noise something about a body on the hill the bee struggled forward broke the ring and fell over the steep edge of the rock but the sand by the water at once the crowd surged after it poured down the rock left on to the beast screamed struck bit tore there were no words no movements with the airing of teeth and claws then the sounds open and let down the rain like a waterfall the water bounded over the mountain top tore leaves and branches from trees poured like a cold shower over the struggling heap on the sand presently the heap broke up and figure staggered away only the beasts lay still a few yards from the sea even in the rain they could see how small a beast it was and already its blood was standing thus and now a great wind blew the rain sideways cascading the water from the forest trees on a mountaintop the parachute filled and moved your slid rose to his feet unswayed down through a vastness of wet air and tried with ungainly feet the tops of the high trees yet falling until all he still falling is saint towards the beach and the boys rushed screaming into the darkness the parachute took the figure forward all in the lagoon and bumped it over the reef and outand to see bored midnight the rain ceased and the clouds drifted away though the sky was scattered once more with the incredible lump lamps of stars and the breeze died too and there was no noise save the drip and trickle of water that ran out of clefts and spilled down leaf by leaf to the browner of the island the air was cool moist and clear presently even the sound of water was still a beastly huddled on a pale Beach in the stain spread inch by inch the edge of the lagoon became a streak of phosphorescence advanced minutely as the great wave of the tide flowed clear water mirrored the clear sky of me angular bright constellation the line of phosphorescence bulged about the sand grains little pebbles held them in a dimple of tension then suddenly accepted them with an inaudible syllable and moved on along the short edge of the shallows the advancing clearness was full of strange Moonbeam embodied creatures with fiery eyes Erin there a large pebble clung to its own hair air and was covered in a coat of pearls a tide swelled and over the rain pitted sin and smooth everything with a layer of silver now it touched the first of the stains and seeped from the broken body and the creatures made a moving path of light as they gathered the edge at the edge the water rose further and rest Symons coarse hair with brightness the line of his cheeks slivered and in turn of his shoulder became a sculpted Marmol marble a strange attendant creatures with their fiery eyes and trailing vapours busy themselves around his head the body lifted a fraction of an inch from the sand and a bubble of air escaped from his mouth with a wet plop then turned gently in the water somewhere over the darkened curve of the world the Sun and Moon were pulling the film of water and the earth planet was held bulging slightly on one side while the solid core turned a great wave the tide moved further along the island and the water lifted thoughtfully surrounded by a fringe of inquisitive bright creatures itself the silver shape beneath the steadfast constellation diamonds dead body moved out towards the open sea oh ok so looks like we have our second depth here first being that kid with the birthmark in his face and then second being Simon although I feel like the lead-up to Simon's death was somewhat obvious uhm what with him having a talking pig coming at him well not coming at him but like he was like staring into the face of a dead pig and it was talking to him so like something about him losing his childhood his child miss they talked about that as well and he climbs up a mountain and he sees the dead body it's like I gotta tell the guys it's just a dead body it's not actually a monster on top of the mountain there and so Simon goes up to the top of the loft ratios up stop mountain sees the dead guy starts running down to where Jack has his fire because Ralph and Piggy's fire has gone out and Ralph and piggy are kind of a lone because everybody else has left to go Jack because they want meat and so Jack and piggy go over to there too and they're they're really just going for the meat themselves and Jack's like sure you know what guys you can have some food too but you know he's gonna use it as leverage later and so Ralph and piggy are eating their meat and then Jack's like alright now that everybody's done eating and they're like we're not done eating he's like now that we're done eating everybody's like okay he's like now that we're done meaning who's joining my tribe and we Ralph's like I'm the leader and Jack's like no you're not the leader and Ralph's like I blow the conch and we can have a meeting and we can discuss this and Jack's like your conscience doesn't work here also you didn't bring it and Ralph's like okay but I'm still the leader and Jack's like yeah well be quiet because I gave you food and you can't really say anything and so I thank people are gonna be joining him and anyways so sundar starts the thunder and lightning starts up and it starts to rain everybody gets kind of freaked out and Jack's like we don't have to be afraid of the rain and he's like I'm the new leader now and he like runs off into the beach it's like we're not afraid of the Ray and they start chanting and then they kill the Beast cut its throat well it's blood hit it with a hammer I don't know whatever the chances and so they're all running and like enjoying rain I guess dancing around in circles and the loons are scared cuz it's like raining and there's thunder and lightning and it's like terrifying and now the woods couldn't Simon it sounds like hey you'll have to be worried about the beasts it's actually just a dead person up there it's just got a guy with a parachute he's dead and everybody's like it's the Beast and it's not Simon's like no no I'm not the Beast there's the Beast is a dead guy up on the mountain and I like it's the beasts and they start killing Simon it's too dark for them to see it Simon we're not really listening to what he's saying everybody freaking kills Simon he like falls to the ground and they just beat him to death and then everybody like gets up and they're like that's a small Beast and they wander off and the book describes the boys as like monsters at this point he's like the the creatures with fiery eyes approached the corpse on the beach and then Simon's body is now lit by like luminescence from the water and then he gets like dragged out into the ocean and so I don't know if the guys actually know that was Simon but their items bodies now gone so I can't verify it in the daylight I don't know if they know it was Simon like after they killed him they realized of assignment or what we haven't really covered yet so it wasn't a real reason to speculate anyways so now that body on the top of the mountain gets picked up by the wind because Simon freed a parachute because he was tired of it sitting up and going down sorry freed the parachute and now the the skeleton gets lifted up and carried out the sea so now there's no evidence on top of a mountain that Simon wasn't the Beast the whole time oh notre man oh yeah so the skeleton gets taken out to sea right and now that Simon's gone down and been killed and now he's getting washed out to sea - they're gonna think that killing Simon was killing the Beast not that they know it was Simon because it was too dark so I'm gonna think they killed the Beast and be like Oh a beast must have got him Simon while it was out there at least that's what I'm thinking and so Simon's gonna be gone the skeletons gonna be gone and this beast that doesn't exist is now also gone and so I guess they're gonna move on with their lives and forget this happened I'm not gonna speculate again I got to stop speculating ok so we're done with this chapter thank you thanks for joining me I'll catch you in the next one and goodbye [Music] you [Music]
