minor sins and ask the lord for pardon and his strength i confess to almighty god and to you my brothers and sisters that i have greatly sinned in my thoughts and in my words in what i have done and in what i have failed to do through my fall through my fault through my most grievous fault therefore i ask blessed mary ever virgin all the angels and saints and you my brothers and sisters to pray for me to the lord our god may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen lord have mercy lord have mercy christ of mercy christ have mercy lord have mercy lord have mercy let us pray grant almighty god through the yearly observances of holy land that we may grow in understanding of the riches heathen in christ and by worthy conduct pursue their facts through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever amen offering to god the fruits of the land in thanksgiving the israelites profess publicly the saving acts god has done on their behalf lent is the time to recall the lord jesus's suffering on our behalf a reading from the book of deuteronomy moses spoke to the people saying the priest shall receive the basket from you and shall set it in front of the altar of the lord your god then you shall declare before the lord your god my father was a wandering aramian who went down to egypt with a small household and lived there as an alien but there he became a nation great strong and numerous when the egyptians maltreated and oppressed us imposing hard labor upon us we cried to the lord the god of our fathers and he heard our cry and saw our affliction our toil and our oppression he brought us out of egypt with his strong hand and outstretched arms with terrifying power with signs and wonders and bringing us into this country he gave us this land flowing with milk and honey therefore i have now brought you the first fruits of the products of the soil which you o lord have given me and having set them before the lord your god you shall bow down in his presence the word of the lord thanks be to it be with me lord when i am in trouble be with me lord when i am in trouble you who dwell in the shelter of the most high who abide in the shadow of the almighty say to the lord my refuge and fortress my god in whom i trust be with me lord when i am in trouble no evil shall befall you nor shall affliction come near your for to his angels he has given command about you that they guard you in all your ways be with me lord when i am in trouble upon their hands they shall bear you up lest you dash your foot against the stone you shall tread upon the asp and the viper you shall trample down the lion and the dragon be with me lord when i am in trouble because he clings to me i will deliver him i will set him on high because he acknowledges my name he shall call upon me and i will answer him i will be with him in distress i will deliver him and glorify him be with me lord when i am in trouble the apostle paul exhorts us to place our faith and confidence in the lord jesus who suffered and died and was raised from the dead for our salvation a reading from the letter of saint paul to the romans brothers and sisters what the scriptures say the word is near you in your mouth and in your heart that is the word of faith that we preach for if you confess with your mouth that jesus is lord and believe in your heart that god raised him from the dead you will be saved for one believes with the heart and soul is justified and one confesses with the mouth and soul is saved for the scripture says no one who believes in him will be put to shame for there is no distinction between jew and greek the same lord is lord of all enriching all who call upon him for everyone who calls on the name of the lord will be saved the word of the lord thanks be to god to honor the holy gospel please rise [Music] all together one does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of god [Music] the lord be with you and with your spirit a proclamation from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you o lord filled with the holy spirit jesus returned from the jordan and was led by the spirit into the desert for 40 days to be tempted by the devil he ate nothing during those days and when they were over he was hungry the devil said to him if you are the son of god commands this stone to become bread jesus answered him it is written one does not live on bread alone then it took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a single instant the devil said to him i shall give to you all this power and glory for it has been handed over to me and i may give it to you to whomever i wish all this will be yours if you worship me jesus said to him in reply it is written you shall worship the lord god your god and him alone shall you serve then he led him to jerusalem made him stand the parapet of the temple and said to him if you are the son of god throw yourself down from here for it is written he will command his angels concerning you to guard you and with their hands they will support you lest you dust your foot against the stone jesus said to him in reply it also says you shall not put the lord your god to the test when the devil had finished every temptation he departed from him for a time my brothers and sisters the gospel of the lord praise to you lord jesus christ good morning my brothers and sisters in christ going back to our readings today the first reading from the book of deuteronomy is focused on the great deeds of god upon israel to approach god it is necessary to recall our humble beginnings as we offer our gifts to the lord in the liturgy we acknowledge our own history how we have been oppressed by other people without mercy and love we also declare how god has led us to freedom do we believe that in our own history god has shown his might to us by destroying our enemies and by leading us to freedom with signs and wonders the focus of the second reading from the letter of paul to the romans is on the faith in jesus christ faith is preached to all people without distinction salvation is for all who believe that jesus is the lord his divinity and that the father raised him from the dead his resurrection this to his divinity and resurrection are the foundation stones of the christian religion no one is excluded from the possibility of being saved no matter of what race or people it is open to all and everyone who calls on the name of the lord the gospel reading from saint luke is about the temptations of jesus saint mark the earliest of the witnesses to the proclamation of the good news comprises the temptations of jesus and one and one soul birth with saint matthew elaborates into 11 and saint luke into 13 verses that jesus was tempted remains an undeniable historical fact but matthew and luke may will be giving us the deeper meaning of them in the form of an early catechetical instructions all three temptations lack of trust in divine providence presumption and striving for independence from the divine will corresponds the temptations of israel and the desert whereas israel defaulted while christ comes out victorious in every case i remember the story of the three priests who were in honor retreat together they were sharing their struggles and difficulties with each other weaknesses the atmosphere seemed right and it seemed safe to share namala one priest confessed to being a secret drinker la singer pusha and he gave much detail of how he managed to conceal and cover up that fact the second priest confessed to having a gambling addiction even to using money from the paris account to feed his addiction he spoke of his dread of the inevitable when he could no longer cover up and his calm would be uncovered the third priest was reluctant to share and it was only after persuasion that he confessed his secret weakness he says weakness he was an incurable gossip he was never been able to keep secrets secretly my brothers and sisters temptations are here to stay samantha lung habang maganga tayung maraming temptations and we have more chances to fall into sin the devil triggers what is inside us that the lord suffered much opposition in his public life and crumbled torments in his passion is known to all but is everyone also aware that he was tempted in many ways just as we are this is the clear statement of the sacred writer in the letter to the hebrews he was tempted in every way that we are but he did not sin that is the lesson today's gospel brings home to us his mission was to overthrow the kingdom of satan and to establish the kingdom of god but this did not go unchallenged today we see the two antagonists in the struggle christ and satan the temptations are the manifestation of the great struggle going on behind the senses for man's redemption but christ is the victor and every suggestion of the temper our gospel today shows us jesus christ was successful in the struggle against the temptations of the devil his only desire is to do the will of god he listens to the voice of god the voice of god is to establish the kingdom of god by listening to god's word not by satisfying our appetites or self-denial living simply and ordinarily not by trying to impress be in focus on the true one true god not to anything bizarre hindi if we are not molded according to god's word we can easily succumb to any temptation we have no fear of violent violating the rights of others like the right of life to education basic human rights god's word serves as a reminder for us not to give in to what is evil the question is how do we handle temptations to grab power to destroy other people's reputation to steal to scum to be unfaithful to our loved ones because somebody else is seducing us to consume what is more than necessary to buy what we don't need to squander our hard earned money uncommitted and nothing influential to manipulate to get what we want how do we handle temptations when there is no choice jesus answers is never compromised with the devil no to capitalism we should not desire anything else but god we take hold of our identity as children of god we should decide to die as children of god and god's loving hands not to die and disrepute and our paris says there are many temptations to listen to the latest gossip to steal the collections to sexually abuse the miners in the vulnerable to get the affection of married people even if married already to hide needed information to punish the others what will be our response we can and must learn from the savior how to battle with a temper he does not rationalize he does not argue a definite word from the scriptures a thought of past assurance of the father a determination to do his will at all cost puts to flight any suggestions of the evil one my brothers and sisters we are here gathered today celebrating this holy eucharist what is the meaning and challenge of this eucharist parasatin in this eucharist we ask the lord to strengthen us in our fight against the demons in our lives in the eucharist we encounter jesus who succeeded in wrestling with the devil and who listened to the voice of god here in the eucharist that we celebrate we don't give the devil a chance and this eucharist we firmly affirm that we are god's special possessions god's children together we professed our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from life true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for as men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen heavenly father into us in your covenant of mercy that leads us to everlasting life with humble hearts we pray lord acclaim [Music] blessed is [Music] you're indeed holy oh lord of fountable holiness make holy there for these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at a time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you in aid of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks he gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of an eternal covenant which will pour that free and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me the mystery of faith [Music] [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life in the chalice of salvation giving thanks you held
