give our god the glory that is truly to his name it's almost i sound like i'm offending him when when all i say is god is good he has been [Music] better than good he he has and i want to take the moment and give him the worship that is truly due his name [Music] minister phil thompson thank you so much for your gift to the body of christ uh thank you so much for ministering to us it was minister phil thompson who was with us before the pandemic hit thought that it would be even more befitting that as we go back the one that came with us when we closed came with us as the doors opened again i blessed and honored god for all of our virtual family those that are all over the country watching that are tuned in those that are just saying pastor i just don't feel as safe right now look take your time there's no rush no rush because the same god that that that heals in the house is the same god that will heal in your house [Music] hallelujah hallelujah to all our family and friends around the country i bless you there's a word from the lord and i want to share with you let me get right to it because as we talk about this god has just been doing some amazing things and has even ministering and and even dealing with me personally i really do pray i do i pray that those who are listening in on today i pray that you get something out of this because i almost felt as i was reading as i was worshiping writing i was like god is this just a personal devotion because it just seemed like he was ministering just to me and i and i want to encourage somebody here today in the book of joel the book of job joel joel chapter 2 joel chapter 2 and joel chapter 2 starting at verse 12 joel chapter 2 and we're just going to look at verses 12 and 13. listen to what it says in joel in joel chapter 2 um chapter 2 verse 12. yes listen to what it says it says yet even now declares the lord somebody shout now yeah declares the lord return to me with all your heart with fasting and weeping and with mourning and rend your hearts and not your garments return to the lord your god for he is gracious and merciful slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and he relents over disaster yep verse 12 again says yet even now declares the lord return to me with all your heart and just for a moment people of god i just want to talk about from from from the subject as we share these words i want to talk about it's time to return [Music] it's time to return it's interesting because as we look at this this portion uh joel prophet one declares maybe even minor because of the length and breadth of the words that yet they were not long but yet still impactful that joel speaks a word at a very interesting time in the people of judah's life where the children of god were dealing with some things that were so similar to what some of us may even be dealing with now you know they're coming off the heels scholars may argue back and forth about a few things but but one of the things that i share is about the history of this is that they were they were dealing on the back end of swarms of locusts that came in that came in these devouring insects that came in destroying all of what they had worked for and all of the things that they put hopes and dreams in things were destroyed it was a a level of calamity that the people were just not accustomed to in that area people still even argue about if it was actual an event because in that area in that area it's just one common for swarms of locusts for locusts to even show up at that magnitude much less to come in the way it came in i mean if you go to chapter one it will talk about uh the the like an army it rushed in destroying so much of what the people of god had worked strived for and and i don't know what what what what what you may feel about this or how you may feel about this but boy that's some frustrating stuff to seem like you work so hard to get to a certain place only to see so much taken away to see that that things that you you have worked for and put a lot of hope in and even dreams in only to allow disaster to come in and swarm at the level it has swarmed in it they didn't see it coming they they didn't expect it they no no they they weren't warned it was out of nowhere it just came and it it brought such a level of disaster and and and and calamity that the people were struggling to even try to recover i mean it was rough i mean people were all over the place divided and uh upset and discouraged and yet even depressed because they were not expecting for this calamity to hit the way it did it it hit in a way that they just didn't see coming in and so while they're going through they were trying to pick the pieces back up together i wonder am i talking to anybody here that knows what it feels like that once you get hit by something you you didn't expect coming and then when it hit you now here you are now just trying to catch a breath again here you are just saying no i'm not even trying to get back up top yet i'm just trying to recover again i'm just trying who knew who knew that as we were going into this season and we were going to still be at a moment where we're still in recovery mode where people are trying to get their lives back together people trying to get their families back together people are trying to get their resources back together people are trying to get their sanity back together trying to get their minds back together as many of us trying to get our habits back together and it has brought us to a place where it knocked us down so hard that we're still trying to recover but this is this is your shout this is the part where you could tell god thank you for because even though it hit see see joel is not talking to the deceased joel is talking to the survivors joel is talking to those that took the hit and even when they didn't know how they were going recover their recovering and i wanna know do i have anybody under the sound of my voice now you still trying to figure some stuff out you still trying to get some stuff back together but one thing you can truly be able to say pastor jack i'm recovering i'm recovering i'm getting it back together i'm not as fast as i was i still have my moments sometimes i feel like the cha-cha i'm taking two steps ahead but then getting knocked a few steps back but the good news is i'm still moving i want to know do i have anybody now that can declare with all of what i've gone through with all of what i yeah this is the praise that you can offer to god god i thank you that even though i may have lost some stuff along the way i thank you that you still kept me is there anybody that could just tell god thank you for keeping me [Applause] point in somebody and tell them you're a survivor you're a survivor he's talking to survivors and this is what's interesting so now as they are in the mode of surviving now their minds that the oh yes they focus on recovery now their mindset is it's time to return they're trying to return back to their lives we're trying to go back to our jobs we're trying to get things back going i'm trying to get my income back together i'm trying to return back to to my life i'm ready oh my god i can't wait to get back on a plane again come on y'all know what you're saying i can't wait to get back on a vacation again jesus i can't wait for these kids to go back to school again eight people should have said amen right there i can't wait they're in the they're in the process of seeking to return they want to return back to their normal lives and so here's god though speaks through the prophet joel and makes very clear to them that yes nothing wrong nothing wrong with returning back to your life but while you in the process of returning come on let me help you you better make sure you're returning you're putting your returns in priority you better make sure that while you're returning to this and to that into he and to she you better put some stuff in perspective because let's just be honest it might be that this season may have taught you that some stuff you don't need to return to he says i'll keep going but he says while you're returning he says return he yet even now even now why you putting all your plans together i'm doing this tomorrow yes and i'll be doing this next weekend yes and next month we're planning to do this yes we're going to return to this wait wait no no god says now why are you doing this because i i have to admit this is where the conviction came for me because while i was we were putting things together saying yes it's returned it's time to return back to to to some normancy it's time to get back into the sanctuary where we've planned for it we've prayed for it we put things together we we've we've invested in it we've done all this to make sure god said wait hold up now why are you trying to return back to a service what sense does it make for you to return back to the service and and there's still a part of you that ain't as close to me as you should don't you don't no no no don't don't you look at me and judge your pastor don't do it because i know i'm talking to somebody come on people come on my family online y'all better come on get with me because many of us have allowed the struggles that we dealt with through the calamity to cause us to put people out the house that should have been running it come on come on all right all right anybody ever had moments where you know so much drama start happening in the house and when stuff drama start happening in the house you start telling all your guests like look baby right now this ain't a good time i'm gonna need you to go or you're on the phone look at them no oh no some give her to pop off and i ain't trying to embarrass you embarrass me uh so i'm gonna need i'm gonna get off this phone jesus said that's cool if it's your cousins it's not cool when it's me [Applause] he says he says no you you you went a little too far because with all the drama and you're trying to get all this together you told jesus i'll call you back you told jesus come back another time and you called him to fix it and after he put you in place to fix it now okay god now look i i'll take it i'm sorry and god says no no no don't put the mast out do you know that in revelation as jesus the one of the famous uh verses that we will even use sometimes in an invitation where they says when jesus says lo and behold i stand at the door and knock well you know and and and you know come on in and and i'll sup with you and you with me you know we was we were off times looking at that as if it was the the those on the outside sinners those who were not in christ jesus knocking at the door of their heart when in revelation if you look at the context to how he said it he wasn't talking to those on the outside he was talking to folk who he's accustomed to being in the house he says no he says i'm talking to those who we were close but you allowed this calamity to pull us apart oh yeah you were on fire first you were oh yeah y'all had it all programmed and everything yes you did you had a program ready to look online and everything you were you were good to go yes you are you treated me like yes it was still we're putting things still in order yes at this time we're going to sit together as a family and we're going to sit and we're going to watch worship we're going to come and we're going but then somewhere along the line in your return you started not treating me like i was the feature you started treating me like netflix well i'll i'll watch it when i when i get home this week i i'll watch it when i get off work well i watch it when time get yeah and before you know it you you weren't just looking at me uh you you were not just one week down you were like oh man i got three weeks down you could tell cause somebody called fussing you didn't tell us about this uh it was it was online it's those moments where god is saying i need you oh god i hear some i hope somebody's hearing me on the sound of my voice i hope you're hearing me online that jesus is saying before you return to your schedule i need you to return to your savior jesus says return to me he says i i i want you to get to the place where you you can declare i'm aware first of all i'm aware of my calamity i'm aware of what i'm going through i'm aware that this is a struggle i'm aware that yes i've lost some stuff i'm aware that i've been affected resourcefully i'm aware that i've been affected socially and even yes let's be honest i've even been affected spiritually but i refuse to allow what i've gone through to destroy me when i know god may be using it to develop me he's developing something in me so here it is now i acknowledge my god's charge i acknowledge the fact that god is saying now return to me somebody shall return to him it's time to turn return this word one version says to turn back it literally means to turn back to go back to that place go back to that place come back one version says it's it's time for you to get back to that place it's like making a u-turn to get back on the road getting you to your destination when you've taken an early exit he says i need you to return return back to me says the lord listen to what he says and then watch this and when you return there's some things i need you to do he says when you return he says first of all i need you to return inwardly with all your heart i need you to return to me with your heart because what sense does it make if you return to me with your service but your heart ain't there because if you return to me with your service you're gonna give me service but no intimacy and the last thing i want to do is end up in a house with somebody who just offers service but no intimacy show me a marriage where there is all service oh yeah y'all get the work done but no intimacy and i'll show you a starving family i'm trying to help somebody jesus says the same thing with me there's no way that you can come and lift your hands and worship but you spent no time with me this week there there makes no sense for you to get up and pray and preach on a microphone but you don't put your yeah you speak about me on the microphone but you don't get on your face and listen to me on your knees during the week something is wrong with you getting to the place where you offer service with no intimacy and i wonder do i have anybody here that's saying yes i've been guilty before where i'm giving god that yes i said my prayers but i wasn't praying i was doing the services but i wasn't going and sharing my heart to god but god told me to tell you that it's okay i'm giving you another chance the buck stops here i wonder am i talking to anybody here that's ready to return back to god somebody ought to put a hand up and say god i'm coming back i'm coming back yeah no shame you don't have to be embarrassed come on even where you are online just lift one hand and say god i'm coming back home i'm coming back i'm coming back he says return he says return to me he says return to me watch this with fasting oh yeah in a few few more weeks that we're going to do our fall fast and i'm looking forward to it because there's there's there's some stuff come on y'all let's just be honest there's some stuff that we picked up during the calamity that you ain't picked up in a long time god god probably looked at some of us and was like real with god i'm going through i mean but really you ain't done that in six years you told your friends you ain't called them you telling people god thank you for delivering me people sliding my my dms and you sliding in folks dms i was just saying hey no you wouldn't i just praise the lord no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no the guy says no no we we get we we're gonna slide because there's some stuff that you have picked up that i'm gonna need you to put it back because it doesn't belong to you give the enemy back what the enemy what belongs to the enemy amen four people stop trying to win this godly fight using the enemy's tools he says get back to fasting there's some stuff you got to put down and let's be honest yeah sometimes yeah we got to put the we got we got to put certain parts of the plate down come on we picked up dip we picked up more plates during this calamity eight man three people oh so y'all just gonna look at me and judge me i got the lights low so ain't nobody looking at you come on let's be honest all right i need three people to testify just three come on come on online lift your hand if you tell true i need three people that can testify and say oh and when you went in that closet you were so glad you didn't throw that away i like it come on whoo i'm glad i didn't throw that away boy that i almost got rid of those [Music] calamity just makes you put an extra piece of chicken on the plate this is it does it makes you you're not sleeping much so 11 o'clock you're supposed to be snoring you're snacking you know is how do you binge without some popcorn i mean how how do you y'all looking at me like don't judge me past that man he says fasting watch this he says also i need you to return to me with weeping and mourning weeping and mourning god are you serious haven't i cried enough in this season haven't i mourned enough in this season is he crying weeping and mourning oh you better hear me is what you do when you have to say goodbye to something you've been so emotionally attached to god says no no no see when i talk about fasting yes there's some abstaining there's some things you need to put to the side he says but i need you to also bring some weeping and mourning because there's some stuff that i i'm telling you to let go you don't want to let go i'm not talking about the stuff you let go that you can just let go and say thank you jesus i'm done with that no no no i'm talking about it's time to let some stuff go that you might have to say god do i have to but but but god do i have to but god come on now every come on now just i'm not hurting anybody do i have to and what you don't understand is that god is saying that there's some stuff i need you to say goodbye to because it just doesn't fit with where you're going see so no this has this though this is not well people need to stop being so hot no no this has nothing to do with just trying to be better than anybody trying to be holier than anybody no this has everything to do with i know what your future looks like i know what's ahead of you i know what i'm getting ready to do in your life now it may be okay with some people but you know what god is saying to you that there is some stuff that your future it doesn't fit with where you're going so there i wonder i may be talking maybe it's just me but i wonder am i talking to at least a few more people in here that knows that god is saying your future is too important to keep holding on to stuff that's no longer necessary somebody shall let it go [Applause] he says with weeping and mourning that means it might be that there's such an attachment when you release it it's going to trigger almost the same part of your brain that triggers when there's a death you go you're going to give it but your fingers still attached to us come on y'all never gave something that you guys said something might feel like tug of war but god says you better keep it out there don't you dare bring it back in you better hold it out even if you pull it you better hold it out because i need you to get ready for some weeping and mourning i need you to be able to let it go and release it with a level even if it hurts to let go even if you do it in tears and say i i don't even believe i'm doing this but god said it's time to let it go somebody shall let it go all right i got close here because he says look wait not only do you acknowledge your charge i'm aware of my calamity i acknowledge my charge but here it is now i have to at least be able to tell god thank you because i'm not talking to somebody who doesn't have a track record of doing amazing things so when he tells me to do something i can trust that it's going to be amazing because it's god who's telling me to do it i can trust you god because you have never changed you are still the same so the reason why things may be happening is not because you change it's because i have sunrise sunset sunlight darkness is not because yes we call it sunrise as if the sun is rising we call it sunset as if the sun is setting we'll say from the uh the rising of the sun going down of the of the same as if the sun is going down but you know all you needed was third grade science and you'll understand that light and darkness has nothing to do with the sun moving the sun doesn't move it's the earth that keeps turning and when this and when our part of the earth faces the sun sunrise but when we turn our back on the sun it gets dark i say all that to say you might want to be careful in pointing your finger at the sun when it gets dark because god says i didn't change you did i don't believe you left me i never leave you nor forsake you you did god you stopped calling no i never stopped calling i didn't leave the house [Music] you did i want to know am i talking to anybody here that could take a moment and say god that's why i thank you that you never change i thank you that you're the same yesterday today and forevermore what is it about god's attributes that i can't help but tell him thank you for the bible declares that he's gracious somebody shall gracious they said he's merciful somebody shout he's merciful gracious y'all know what gracious means that he's the one watch this now say it like this he's the one that keeps giving you favors i want to know am i talking to anybody here that right now you can tell god thank you that when you were at your worst god did you a favor what's a favor you know what a favor is that's why i like people that may ask for a favor when you ask for a favor you're at least acknowledging i do nothing to deserve this i didn't work for this i didn't earn this but the only reason i'm going to get it is because you doing me a favor i want to know is there anybody here that can take a moment and tell your god thank you that he did your favor come on be honest you didn't deserve the life you have you didn't deserve to have the breath you have you didn't deserve to get the healing you got god did you a favor i want to know do i have anybody that can say god i thank you for doing me a favor he did you a favor he's gracious not only is he gracious but he's merciful merciful literally beast you were guilty you were guilty you you messed up you got caught and you deserve it you deserve it and yes you you'll get ready to face it and now he tells you he steps right in in the middle of your punishment and says as much as i want to tell you behind up i love you right now i'm going to hold back now now you cannot expect me to do that all the time because some of us right now you can be honest enough to admit that there are some weapons that you should have gotten that god held back from you am i talking to anybody here that can say god i thank you i thank you that you were merciful enough that you kept from me what should have destroyed me we would walk in guys i'll i'll say this say this then we go we were walking going on a walk as as a family and so when we go on a walk as a family we notice that uh lady tara and i will walk james will walk but johnny wants to ride his bike and also so johnny of course he rides his bike during the walk so while he's riding his bike during the walk we're walking and we get to a certain part of the neighborhood we get to a certain part of the neighborhood where we see dogs dogs everywhere they're coming from their yards and they'll come and they they do their barking and all that but i don't know why johnny felt this he just decided that this one particular dog deserved some undivided attention so so here's a dog already barking he's already looking mean and johnny jumps off his bike because we were walking with simba and so of course we're walking with our dogs so while we're walking with simba they're looking at each other and you could tell symbols looking at the dog like you move i'm moving the dog says you come closer i'm gonna get you to assembles like if my master wasn't holding me i would be there you know you could tell they're having their little dialogue and i'm sitting there having a little fun with it i'm letting them jerk back i'm letting them play back with each other and all because i noticed that they were just going back and forth right well johnny decides that i want to join in the fun he gets off his bike gets off his bike and starts messing with the other dog so he's stomping at him i said now look i'm telling that little boy if that dog starts chasing us i don't have to unr i don't have to outrun the dog i just have to outrun y'all hey man i said so you keep playing you just might get what you deserve and he kept playing and he was playing and that dog started growling he started playing i said stop that dog would listen to me and he came running towards him and when he came running towards him i mean no master nobody around and while he was running somehow out of nowhere something just made that dog stop right where he was now he started kept barking but he didn't come no further and the closer i looked at the dog i noticed that dog had an invisible fence collar so as much as that dog wanted to get a hold of the master of that dog already put parameters around so there are some places that dog could get to and i wanted to go and knock on that master's door and say thank you because he should have he would have and he could have torn my son apart but you put something around that's mercy guys i want to know am i talking to anybody here that can take a moment and give god praise because when life got a hold of you when life was about to tear you up we serve a god that put parameters in place that kept what should have killed you what should have destroyed you god held that stuff back i wonder do i have anybody here that can lift one hand to god and say god i thank you for being faithful great is thy faithful lord god our father oh my god i want to know am i talking to anybody that can say god i thank you for being faithful [Music] god says come on come on stand to your feet come on god god is here god is saying you have no idea some of the stuff that should have destroyed you you didn't even see it coming i protected you from danger seen and unseen why because i'm gracious come on lift your hands i'm gracious i'm gracious and i'm merciful and i'll keep from you what should have destroyed you thank you god for being so who god and you never change great is thy able to get our grief groups going and people have been ministered to thank you so much brother warren thank you so much for the work that you and horizon does to help our community to become whole and healthy i want to share with you guys as well our beginning of our uh our new members classes it's going to begin in october classes will be held every second sunday of the month watch this every second of the month at nine o'clock that's the in person but then eleven o'clock via zoom on the fourth saturdays of the month from nine to eleven so for those who just want to get online make sure that you be a part of our new members classes just come on be a part of what's happening we're going to get a chance to uh get you connected and all with our classes all right to make sure that we're we're doing the best that we can to to make sure we keep even the sanctuary um sanitized and clean we're gonna have to go right after service we're gonna have to exit the building because we have people coming in for 11 o'clock so we want to make sure that we get everyone out the building as quickly as we can now of course once you get out we could fellowship all you want all of that but we want to get out the sanctuary so that we can go ahead and get it ready for those that are coming in at 11 o'clock as well we got food trucks in the back too guys we have food trucks in the back that we want to be able to be a blessing to all of those so look this is what we have this is what we have for for all of those people who are here we have we'll have at the door people at the door who are going to give all of our adults 18 and up all of our our our adults 18 and up um we're going to give you a ticket give y'all takes food now we ain't checking id so y'all just all right now now this is what we're going to what about my children well trust me we have food already provided for our children so we got food for our children but we have tickets for the adults that you'll be able to go you'll be able to get you some some food that you'll be free meals and even if you just say look i want to get some for my cousins and all of that well they're still selling food as well but i want to make sure i feed you not just spiritually but feed you physically as well as you come to worship today and then you can be able to buy something for your cousin them amen amen all right so we want to get a chance to do that we got we got all we got uh uh what chef dans we've got uh new york slice uh off the hook fish and more uh we got a mexican uh uh cuisine a man that's there we got some trucks
