where we are ashamed to lift our voice or lift our hands and offer unto god somebody say offer it unto god amen the fruit of our lips the sacrifice of praise amen you may be seated this morning in the house of the lord in the presence of the lord i want to stay on assignment this morning welcoming everyone to the house of the lord thanking everyone for being here it truly is a blessing to be in the house of god amen it's a blessing to be able to worship god with like-minded people who are seeking to glorify god and magnify god you know god honors our praise he honors our worship he has filled this room where we are right now he is in this place right now the almighty god is here with us this morning amen we want to take the time to thank everyone for coming again but also we want to welcome those who are tuning in online from argentina everybody say argentina amen we've got brothers and sisters that tune in with us all around the world but today we want to highlight those who are in argentina tuning in and worshiping the lord with us we have a few first-time guests this morning before i begin will anybody help me this morning in welcoming our guests thank you jesus i remember when i first came and my name was called i kind of felt very important i kind of felt like a celebrity i would have stood up and testified if you asked me to but praise god we're not going to do that this morning we're going to not going to ask anyone to stand up or sing a song or give a selection or testify or anything like that but when i do call your name if you don't mind just kind of slipping your hand up so we can see where you're seated we can come by and greet you a little bit later our first time guest this morning and if i pronounce your name wrong please forgive me i'll i'll come by time guest uh rebecca akers is that correct rebecca rebecca where you seated all right she may have slipped out for a moment but all right op okay if you would go ahead and stand we're going to put five minutes on a countdown and this five minutes is for us of course they're talking to greet one another but we also want to take the time to greet our guests at this time pre-teen and youth will be dismissed all right [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do jesus [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Music] jesus jesus [Music] jesus [Music] and the word became flesh [Music] we must be saved one lord one faith and one baptism one god father of allah and with the holy ghost [Music] hallelujah amen i am thankful that i know who jesus is amen it's good to be in the house of the lord this morning good morning everybody and uh good to have each of you here we have we have uh just dismissed our youth and our um pre-teen to go to their services but it's good to see all of you here if you notice several empty rows up here if you want to make your way up here in just a moment and get a better seat you can do that but i am so glad that each of you are here today now if you're a first or second time guest perhaps i haven't met you i was not here last sunday morning i was out of town ministry but i just want to say it's so good to have you here with us and i thank god for what he is doing in our church and the revival that's taking place how many notice changes any changes around the property today amen there's a lot of new things that are happening amen i just want to to say to brother rob lee taylor and all of his crew that helped finish out that building put a new roof on like in 30 minutes i think that's what it took them but they uh all all of those that have been working over next door and all the hard work there's so many people i don't want to start calling names i should i'll get myself in trouble but uh it is uh it's so good to uh to see progress in the kingdom of the lord and for those that are new that don't understand what's happening we're in the we are in the process of moving forward in our construction we can't fit all of our congregation in the room at the same time so we have folks split up all over the campus this morning and but there are times that we want to bring everybody together and we just don't have a room right now but our uh goal is to build a brand new worship uh sanctuary and uh right over here on the big lot out there and we have a program we're in the process of still raising money we have have yearly or weekly or monthly commitments uh from our membership to move forward with that campaign i'm so i'm so thankful for everyone that has been faithful in your in your imagine campaign commitment thank you so much for your faithfulness it's just exciting to see progress and little things are changing we've see i've noticed there's some rugs out there that have our logo on it i like that and then of course this week they added the logo to our little porsche portico shade drive-through i thought that looked pretty nice how many noticed that when you walked in amen now what we have what we have been working on is our school we're trying to get our school underway it's the most pressing issue because uh school has already started we've got kids meeting all over right now different classrooms and we need to expand our classroom space so we've added on to the building over next door it's very close to completion and but i'm thankful they're going to be able to move into that it does matter even if you don't have school age children it's going to bless our church because right now the school has been using other rooms and we're going to be able to repurpose those for classrooms and meeting spaces and all of that ministry locations around the church so while you know it may not apply to you right now it's going to bless the church uh to be able to to have an independent uh school that that is it houses all of our christian school and uh it's going to bless us to have all those rooms freed up so thank god for that you're going to see the construction of the parking going in very very soon this week we also got a good report we do not have to get any more permits i'm thankful for that amen i'm excited about that we went in and talked to uh permit division and so i'm sorry yeah that's a major deal amen that is a major major accomplishment so as soon as as soon as the money comes in we can move forward with all of that so i'm very thankful for what the lord is doing and uh the construction and moving forward you know jesus uh made the statement one day standing in front of the temple he said destroy this temple in three days i'll raise it up they became offended and they said hey listen our father you know it took almost 40 years to build this temple and you're gonna you're gonna build it up in three days and and then the bible says this he spake of his body not of the building it wasn't about the building he was talking about his body the work of god although it involves a building it's really not about the building it's about the body amen and so i don't think that we're focused on having just the biggest building the reason why we need the building is because the body is crowded and we need to be able to grow the church and build the work of god in the city all right i've talked long enough but it is so good to have everyone here and again if you're a first or second time guest and you're looking for a home church we encourage you to do what we call stick six because every service in a pentecostal church is different and in order to know whether or not we're the church for you you're gonna have to visit about six services and then you'll be able to make an educated decision and decide whether or not we're the right one you need a chance to see our values the doctrine that we preach you know people today make make just two quick decisions on on on whether or not the church is right for them and they'll make a decision based on children's ministry they had a cool logo out front they got a good music program you need to know the doctrine you need to know what the church believes and um and so we're very passionate about that around here we love the word of god i thank god for the excitement but if you don't have the word the word is going to keep you the miracles and all the wonders of living for god are awesome but it's the word that's going to get you into heaven and so but we're so glad to have everyone here in the house of the lord again if i haven't met you my name is rob mckee and that sweet beautiful lady right over there is my wife shara and we're thrilled that each of you are here with us dr wilson our executive pastor is out of town this weekend we've got several folks our administrative pastor by saul korea he's out on vacation uh brother mayer our multicultural ministries uh pastor he is out on vacation so back in the beginning when my wife and i first started here we used to have a say in that we'd have a bunch of people call in so they're going to be out of town we just said well if looks like it's just going to be mama and them today and uh and so even if it gets down to mama in them we're going to have revival and we're going to have church so i'm looking forward to what the lord is going to do today amen before i get into the word i'm going to ask you go ahead and turn there matthew chapter 9 we're going to begin reading in verse number 27. once you find it just hold your finger in your bible and i'm going to ask my wife to lead us in this course i think acts of faith are important and one of the things that the queen of sheba was so impressed with in the household of solomon was their ascent into the house of god solomon is known as one of the wisest men of course other than jesus christ his wisdom came from the lord but uh he was very intentional about the ascent how you go to church how you approach the lord and i think that's important how we approach the word of god is important and so i want us to take just a moment we sing this course but it's an opportunity for us to gather our thoughts in and adjust our attitude and help us to hear what god is saying you can hear a sermon it's not going to change your life but if you hear the word of god it'll make a difference in whatever situation you're facing today amen if you have your bibles take them out hold them to your heart if you're using your cell phone to read your bible just as an act of faith hold it up to your heart and let's sing this course together the words will be honest [Music] ready to receive the word of god speak to me [Applause] search me try me i'm ready to receive to me [Music] way the truth [Applause] the word of god [Music] [Music] please [Music] amen amen reading this morning from the gospel of matthew the first book of the new testament remember matthew mark luke and john are the chronological story history of the ministry the birth the ministry the death the burial and the resurrection of jesus christ each of them are are written from different viewpoints and they're all unique in their presentation but they all run together sort of at the same time and they all funnel into one book of the bible the book of acts and so we're going to begin with matthew chapter 9 and verse number 27 matthew 9 and verse number 27 when you find it say i've got it all right here we go let's read it out loud together and when jesus departed thence two blind men followed him crying and saying thou son of david have mercy on us and when he was come into the house the blind men came to him and jesus saith unto them believe ye that i am able to do this and they said unto him yea lord then touched he their eyes saying according to your faith be it unto you and their eyes were opened and jesus straightly charged them saying see that no man know it but they when they were departed spread abroad his fame in all that count i want to take my title from verse 29 the words of jesus spoke to these two blind men and he said according to your faith that's the title my message this morning according to your faith let your bibles down and let's pray together father i thank you for your word i thank you for the power of your word i'm asking you to speak to us today come on lift up your voice to the lord right now god we need you speak to us [Music] hallelujah jesus we need you lord we trust you lord in jesus name in jesus name we pray amen according according to your faith amen i thank god for his word his word is powerful god bless you you may be seated [Music] amen i'm gonna have the video team help me out just a little bit with my i have a few pictures to to share with you i believe three pictures to share with you today uh but i want to begin um this morning talking about one of uh in my opinion one of the most unappreciated innovators in american history talking about thomas edison thomas edison is undisputed and uh just undeniably the greatest inventor and innovator of of american history perhaps even the world he was a leader who was so far ahead of his time an innovator a man with an incredible mind a visionary that would uh he would continually present new innovations and technological creations that not only were effective but effective in a very broad scale he he his inventions changed the culture of america and the world of his day there's not a corner of the earth that hasn't been impacted by the work of thomas edison now his his inventions were in several categories uh first in electric power generation also mass communication and sound recording uh motion pictures other areas but there are a few areas that are not as well known that thomas edison uh changed he just transformed technology in certain fields for example he created the phonograph which which really was the beginning of a lot of media that we have today the motion picture camera he invented it early versions of the electric light bulb thomas thomas edison rechargeable batteries it was thomas edison that figured out how to do that he was also what's not well known is he was also a very skilled and brilliant chemist and several of the chemicals that he created uh are were used in in many other technologies in in creating other inventions and and um he invented the the the carbon telephone transmitter so not only was he an inventor of new things he took existing technology and completely transformed it alexander graham bell is credited with the telephone even though there's some question about that but uh he is credited with the telephone thomas edison took the telephone and part of the problem with the telephone back in the early 1800s was that it would not produce a more a powerful enough current and so it was thomas edison that figured out how to uh to use this this carbon uh transmitter and uh and make the telephone an actual usable device he created what was called in his day the fluoroscope it was a machine used to x-ray and that uses x-rays to take radiographs and of course that's still in use today all of it began with thomas edison um in 1870 he decided you know what i want i wanted i want to know more about the mining industry and so just randomly he would take on these completely diverse uh areas of study or of industry and just step in in a place he knew nothing about and completely turned innovation on his head just changed everything it was it was a brilliant brilliant man he he uh when he got involved in the mining industry he developed a machine that could pulverize rocks up to 10 tons using uh rollers and crushers and that wasn't the the the best part of it they would actually crush these rocks and then he would use a magnets three giant magnets that would pull the iron ore from the piles of dust and so it just changed everything so they weren't hacking and and using pickaxes to to try to get the ore they they just crushed it all and then were able to separate the ore using magnets and you know not only was was thomas edison um responsible for all of these individual inventions but he was a man of influence many of the innovators and inventors that we have you know heard about in american history in the world history they got their start with thomas edison it was thomas edison that taught them that mentored them that ultimately inspired them to uh to take particular fields of study and and develop new technology he you know in his day he fought against incredible skepticism and um and and yet he continued to innovate so much that people couldn't deny his success it's just everything he put his hand to he he would create an innovation a new uh machine a new device that would make whatever it was people were doing just so much better and more effective and and uh he was just known to uh to to be a person of transformation and so his vision his ability to see the unknown just in spite of the criticism sort of lifted him his business and his all of his innovation into uh almost a legendary status while he was alive he he created what was called the uh uh continental edison company and he's he opened outpost around america i think i've got another picture of edison you can go ahead and put that up uh he created this this uh really almost a global uh industry with offices around the world and um interesting that in his it's in his paris outpost which was not that large but it was uh it was an outpost where he would he actually created new processes for experimentation and new laboratories and showed people how to experiment and how to create new things and think outside the box and so in his paris outpost there was a young serbian um engineer if you could put the picture the guy with the mustache put that up there i think we've got that picture somewhere there he is good looking guy posing there but uh he was he was a young serbian engineer and um he he was so impressed with edison's inventions that it challenged him to try some some innovations of his own this young man was named nikola tesla and uh he had his own success he he developed his own following and tesla became a just uh at first he was a co-worker of edison eventually unfortunately they had a falling out and they became competitors but together tesla and edison although although they were rivals created what was probably the most impacting transformation of world culture in in american history and that was the american electric grid now we take it for granted today but at one time most of the critics felt like electricity was unusable because if you're going to have an electric light you've got to have a device like edison owns to create electricity for your home so you know you've got to produce electricity if you want to use electricity and so it was edison and tesla that came up with this brilliant idea of creating electricity in one place and then sharing it house to house business to business and there were a lot of people that thought that's impossible electricity is just too dangerous but edison was not afraid of innovation as a matter of fact there were some things that he did such as the the uh the fluoroscope that he got into and he eventually dropped them and so his his assistant was actually exposed to high levels of radiation and died it was a terrible thing tesla said i'm not going to deal with any more other innovators came along and took his invention and made it safe for use but uh it was it was this this electric grid that received the most criticism in his day and uh and yet ultimately it succeeded far beyond what they ever imagined within 40 years of this creation this idea of creating the electric grid every home in the world the primary source of of lighting in the world was the electric grid electricity and it was transformed 40 years that's all it took for edison's ideas to become a reality because before that it was all coal lighting but coal lighting had had practically disappeared and everything was lit with electricity so edison's vision was contagious he had faith for a better tomorrow his visions always had widespread impact uh on on the modern industrialized world one of the uh most impacting things they say about the character the personality of edison the thing that allowed him to do so much in his lifetime was that they said he had this unique gift that without any precedent without anyone saying even this is a problem he would observe find an issue and um and then he would he would imagine new possibilities he just would imagine things that no one had ever imagined before he would see things that nobody could have ever thought of sort of just an innovator stepping out into into the ether the abyss and he just imagine this is what we could do people would think man i never thought about that never had that idea before but man might work well um edison they asked edison what the secret of his success was and he said you know the real secret of my success is restlessness i thought that was fascinating he said restlessness is the secret of of what i've been able to accomplish he said a better tomorrow begins with restlessness restlessness is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress then edison said show me a thoroughly satisfied man and i'll show you a failure i thought that was brilliant when you get satisfied with the status quo you are living in a land of failure now i believe that this drive for success is key to any of us moving forward and accomplishing more in our life and that's really what i want to to sort of focus on today but i want it to be applied to the work of god for the past several months we have been examining the many miracles of jesus and we see the desire people manifested in those moments when they see jesus coming they have a need in their life and they make a move in faith but our purpose in looking at all these miracles isn't just a random study but each of these detailed miracles have uh a special significance they reveal something about jesus beyond the fact that he was just a healer now let me just say thank god for healing how many have ever been healed supernaturally in their body before just raise your hand okay look around all right you know it was a healing put your hands how many ever ever received a miracle of some kind aside from healing you prayed about something and god answered supernaturally lift your hand look around that's awesome that's amazing testimony we're a church that believes in the supernatural more important than the miracle is the message amen we we know jesus said in that day of judgment there would be many that would say to me lord lord did we prophesy in thy name cast out devils in thy name perform all these wonderful works in thy name and he will tell them depart from me i never knew you it doesn't you know a lot of people come to jesus like that woman with the issue of blood and they're not interested in transformation they're not interested in relationship with the lord all they're looking for is deliverance for their infirmity i need healing that's why i'm at church today i'm sick and the doctors they they don't know what to do they're shaking their head they're saying it's over i need a miracle i need a miracle with my kids i need a miracle of my job and so we come to god for very selfish reasons and i'm so thankful that the lord will meet those needs but god's desire is to do much more than just give you a miracle he wants to transform your eternity he wants to save you what does it profit if a man gains the whole world and loses his own soul what good are you doing being healed if you're going to be lost and go to hell so that's why every sunday morning i try to take just a moment and focus on the importance of salvation in your life if all a church does is get up and preach about miracles or how to have a good marriage or how to have a good relationship with your kids or how to be a good uh uh you know christian influence on the war in the workplace and we we share all of these moral and righteous ideas but we never talk about salvation we have missed our primary uh message and our our most important mission and that is salvation there is only one way to be saved and that's through jesus christ amen jesus is the answer for salvation for everybody no matter the culture no matter the age get into the body of jesus christ and you'll be saved if you don't then you will be lost and go to hell there is a real place called hell eternal fire where the worm doesn't die you're going to have memories of every missed opportunity it's going to be a place of eternal torment you don't want to go to hell but there on the on the other side of that there is a beautiful place as bad as hell is heaven is that great amen it's wonderful it's a place of eternal reward it just makes sense everybody everybody wants to go to heaven and i talk to a lot of people i've never had anybody seriously now they'll joke around about it i want to go to hell because that's where all my friends are you're not going to be having fun and partying in hell that's right that's dumb okay all right if you believe in hell it's because of the bible and the bible doesn't describe hell as a big party okay but but if if if i ask someone you know do you want to go to heaven almost everybody will say yeah i want to go to heaven but only a few people have done what's required in scripture to actually go to heaven you can't just say well that's where i want to go and because i'm a good person or because i'm used of the lord because i'm you know maybe even i might even have the holy spirit but i haven't i haven't obeyed the rest of the gospel just being a believer doesn't guarantee you're going to heaven do you know that right amen acts chapter 19 the apostle paul met the disciples of john and he asked the question have you received the holy ghost since you believed they said we haven't even heard whether there be any holy ghost and he asked the question well how are you baptized baptism matters and they said we were baptized under john's baptism and he said john baptized unto repentance saying there's coming one after i the latching of whose shoes i'm not worthy loose they were baptized by immersion in water but it wasn't in the name of jesus and so the apostle paul commanded them all to get re-baptized but this time in jesus name how you're baptized matters it matters you need the baptism of the holy ghost and you must repent of your sins the gospel isn't just the death it's not just the burial and it's not just the resurrection it's the death the burial and the resurrection that is the covenant of how we get into fellowship with the lord amen that's why in the old testament the sacrifice of israel did not stop at the brazen altar that was just the place of death a place of repentance it was a place where the sacrifice died but then that blood was carried over to the labor of water where the priests would take their bloody hands and dip them down beneath the surface of that water and that crystal clear water made from the brass looking glasses of the of the hebrew women would become murky with the water so the priest would look down in that clear water they would see their reflection hey look there's robert lester mckee right there i see him but the minute i take the my bloody hands and i put him under the water the water is murky i can't see through the blood to see the man i used to be if you're going to see the rob mckee that used to be you've got to somehow figure out a way to look through the blood it's covered by the blood but it didn't stop there then they would take they would take that sensor of blood and they would walk into that holy place which represented the place where the spirit of god dwell amen the baptism of the holy ghost and they would walk into the holiest of holies and there they would sprinkle that blood on the the ark of the covenant on the mercy seat and so you have three different stations and all of them were critical in order to bring israel back into right fellowship with god that's why it's so important that no one believed just because you visited the brazen altar that that's good enough you got to go to the next step you gotta you gotta get baptized amen you gotta wash away the guilt of sin in your life amen and then you've got to step into the next dimension where you receive the glorious gift of the holy ghost the presence of god almighty the shekinah glory of god comes to live inside of us that's why the apostle paul asked the question what know ye not that your bodies are a temple of the holy ghost now i become the tabernacle i become the place where god's spirit dwells so this the gospel is not just repentance people say well if you want to be saved just come repent that's not you're leaving folks short there they've invented a new doctrine where they say well baptism is an outward expression of an inward confession there's no place you're not going to find that in the bible amen mark says that we are now buried with him in baptism and and and that that baptism doth now save us amen uh romans and colossians both say we're buried with him in baptism so this baptism matters so if you've been baptized before but it wasn't in jesus name thank god for your previous experience but just like the disciples of john in acts 19 you need to get re-baptized again now we're going to talk about miracles today but i'm going to fail as my as my my assignment as a minister if i don't tell you that it is vital it is critical for you to be ready to go to heaven you've got to get in covenant with the lord by obeying the death the burial and the resurrection amen amen all three are critical when you receive the gift of the holy spirit it is not just some random gift that empowers you romans 8 says but if the spirit of him that raised up christ from the dead dwell in you he that raised up christ in the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his spirit that dwelleth within you if you don't have the holy ghost inside there can be no quickening amen you need the holy ghost amen sometimes people confuse the baptism of the holy ghost when you when you receive the holy ghost you will speak with tongues we know that when paul when when uh simon peter visited the house of cornelius and and he baptized him the rest of the disciples were angry with him and they called him before the council and said what were you thinking going in there and baptizing those gentiles salvation is of the jews and he said listen i couldn't help but baptize them because they received the holy ghost just as we did back in the beginning for we heard them speak with tongues when you speak with tongues as a spirit gives the utterance that is a sign of receiving the gift of the holy spirit amen that's what happens now there are other things in the gifts of the spirit diversity of tongues a lot of times people get all those mixed up but there is an initial sign of you speaking with tongues when you receive the gift of the holy ghost it's not just for you or you or you or the spiritual people the ones that want to be leaders in the church it's for everybody amen simon peter said it this way it's for you it's for your children it's for your children's children it's for all them that are far off even as many as the lord our god shall call everybody needs the holy ghost all right so obeying the gospel is important we'll give you an opportunity the conclusion of this service today to take that step of faith walk up to the front repent of your sins get baptized in water the water's warm we have robes it literally takes less than 15 minutes amen less than 15 minutes in less time than you can get insurance with geico amen you listen you can you can get fire insurance for eternity if you just get baptized in jesus name amen all right all right let me let me get back to this so thank god we can obey the gospel of jesus christ if you've never fully obeyed it or maybe you're unsure how you were baptized we only have one guarantee and that is obey the word of the lord amen so very important now uh the the as i mentioned before the gospel is one of the four testimonies of the life the ministry and the death of burial the resurrection of jesus christ and um we've been talking about all these miracles and each of these detailed miracles not not like what you find in matthew 4 23 matthew 12 and 15 and luke 9 and 11 where the bible says and jesus healed them all or he healed all that were afflicted healed all that were sick those general mass healings we don't know any details about but in these described miracles of jesus there is a greater message than the fact that he's a healer we already knew he was a healer there's something that the holy ghost is trying to communicate by recording it in scripture that's why john 20 and 27 tells us that if all that had been written in or that that jesus both said and did that though that john said i suppose that the world itself could not contain the books thereof so the things that are recorded are there for our benefit and so we've been going through all of these miracles of jesus and we're now on miracle number 16 of the 27 described miracles of jesus christ now each of these has a a powerful message about jesus and our our covenant uh rights and covenant privileges that we can rely on with the lord and we've gone through all of these you all the messages are posted online if you want to do a little study on all these it is uh powerful as you begin to walk through each of these but they all reveal something about jesus beyond the fact that he was a healer now these descriptive miracles in each of them we find a message that's that is sort of the primary purpose of revelation something about the nature of jesus christ that we should know about him in his his kingdom now let's let's look at this very short uh reference uh that we have read today about the healing of these two blind men i mean other miracles can take as much as two chapters worth of description but in this we find just five verses long the healing of these blind men and there's a few things about it that are important now this particular miracle is only recorded in the gospel of matthew it's it's omitted from mark luke and john now every week i talked to you about the gospel of john i've probably done it to the point of ad nauseam but i i i i want to i want you to understand that each of these gospels are unique and it it's helpful when you understand the audience um and and sort of the mission of these men that recorded from their viewpoint the life of jesus christ it's kind of helpful when you're reading through the scripture like oh that's why he talked about that so much or that's why he always recorded when jesus said this and so the gospel of matthew is uh was one of the first gospels to be recorded and it was it was written about 17 years after uh the day of pentecost so after the church was born by the way that's why we call ourselves pentecostals is because that's the day that the lord chose to start the church no magic to the name it simply means 50 50 days after passover is a feast but 17 years after pentecost the birth of the church that's when this gospel of matthew was written not all of the new testament was written at the same time the first book that we have placed in the canada that we have in the canon of scripture was the gospel of james it was sort of a christianity 101 that that james wrote to the church you know this brand new church because they were preaching out of the old testament but he wrote this how to be a christian manual uh for all the church for everybody to read but then matthew was was one of the first written around 50 a.d and but when matthew the gospel of matthew was written most of the christians at this point we know from the book of acts that most of the christian church was were jewish messianic believers and so they believed that jesus was the messiah but they were all jews so most of the church was jewish at this point so matthew's focus throughout his gospel is primarily on the jewish perspective of jesus uh as the messiah and the messiah that would be promised to the jewish people so he he wrote it to convince the jewish audience that jesus was the messiah that was prophesied about the old testament and he does it by by driving home two very important covenants two important covenants and you're going to find this now now that you know this you're going to start spotting this as you read through the gospel of matthew he focuses a lot on the covenant that was given to abraham and the covenant that was given to david those two covenants were critical for for the jewish culture in history those two covenants mattered and and here's what those covenants were god's covenant with abraham was that all of his descendants through him all the nations of the world would be blessed and this is found in genesis 12 and verse number three god told him abraham all of your descendants are going to bless the entire population of the world every culture will be blessed through your lineage and then the covenant with david was a bit different he's uh god gave david a covenant that out of his lineage which was a particular branch of of uh hebrew society that there was going to be a king from his you know his children were were going to produce a king that would sit on the throne of israel forever second second samuel chapter seven now so matthew spends a lot of time connecting jesus as a descendant of abraham and a descendant of david this was so important now you and i we may memorize a few scriptures and hopefully everybody's memorized some scripture but we we know a little bit of the bible jewish culture was much different they didn't have the printed bible like we do they committed most of the old testament words of the prophets and psalms and the law of moses to memory they as small children it was as familiar with them as how to drive a car more familiar because they didn't drive cars but they they understood scripture they knew they knew all about scripture and and uh and so these these covenants were part of their culture they knew them you'll find i think uh uh 13 times in the gospel of matthew uh matthew makes this statement he'll he'll say something about jesus and then it'll say as the prophets foretold or that fulfilled the word of the prophets 13 times he makes that statement that what jesus just did is proof that that's what isaiah was talking about that's that's what joel was talking about that's what daniel was talking about what jesus did just did proves that he was the promised messiah the son of david the son of abraham now david david's lineage was a royal lineage david's son and his son's son was a king amen abraham's act of faith was a sacrifice so matthew begins with the birth of a king giving the lineage from david all the way to jesus christ and then it closes with the offering of sacrifice and and so the jews were often offended by the gospel because they assumed that when all these church people started preaching to us they're trying to get us to give up all of our customs that was so important for them all of their practices all of their feast and their their their sacrifices and and they were offended by the gospel but matthew's mission throughout his gospel uh is very similar to what you find in the book of hebrews uh in that he tries to convince them that i'm not asking you to give up what you have i'm trying to tell you that what you have is just a symbol but i'm going to give you the substance that was just pointing towards what we have now this is better than what you've been doing so you're not losing anything what you're actually doing is getting the substance now the best way that i can describe this is years ago uh american monetary system was based on the gold standard and so for every dollar bill uh there was there was gold that basically guaranteed that that exchange of currency that that federal reserve note but we got away from that a long time ago so it doesn't really apply to us but basically the purpose of it was uh so that you didn't have to carry around just uh you know 40 pounds of gold in your pocket but you could just carry these bills and it represented that goal okay and so the bills were just a promissory note of the real substance so when you got a when you got a 100 bill that was sort of like a check a check isn't cash okay there's cash that represents that check hopefully that's the plan by the way need to make sure that that's the way things work okay anything else is illegal don't write checks if you don't have the cash but but the idea is that this represents the substance and so that's what matthew is trying to convince the jewish people of that there that what you have been practicing is just a symbol it's a sign it's sort of a pointing towards a promissory note but what jesus has provided in this glorious gospel the baptism of the holy ghost is so much better amen it's better than anything you have that's why in hebrews 11 the end of it says that then these all die in faith not having received a promise god having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect what we have in the holy ghost is better than what all the old testament patriarchs received yeah daniel had dreams but we got the holy ghost abraham had faith but we got the holy ghost amen david had worship but we got the holy ghost what we have is so much better somebody ought to stand up right now and just shout i'm thankful for something better amen now stay with me stay with me i'm i'm getting close amen all right so uh matthew is presenting jesus as this uh this this coming messiah and this coming king all right now uh so we find the genealogy of the king his birth in bethlehem the city of david uh which was prophesied micah 5 and 2 the coming forerunner whichever king would have it someone would come before him and say hear ye hear ye uh the king and well that's what john the role that john represented and um and so uh there there's there's prophecy that talks about each of these now one last thing i want to mention of matthew and and then we're going to actually look at this miracle matthew is the 40th book in the canon of your bible the old testament has 39 books an easy way that i learned it as a kid is the word old has three letters the word testament has nine so 39 books in the old testament matthew is the 40th in ba in scripture 40 is uh is a number of testing or evaluation and um jesus was tempted by the devil for 40 days israel was was in the wilderness for 40 years david was king for 40 years moses was in a palace for 40 years then he was in the desert for 40 years israel wandered in the wilderness for 40 years so each of these 40 denominations represented a time of testing matthew is he is a tax collector so you're going to find that his gospel is very precise and concise it's he is very detailed and organized in his presentation of the life of jesus christ and so as he's presenting jesus he's presenting jesus as this messiah that stands the test of time you can apply any standard to him whether you apply the standard of the covenant of abraham or the covenant of david jesus christ is he is the promised messiah he is the promised king somebody say amen all right but so these these two blind men very short passage they cry out jesus have mercy on us david wrote in psalms 146 that the lord opened the eyes of the blind the lord raiseth them that are bowed down it's possible that the blind could have known that scripture that you know this messiah when he comes that he would open the blinded eyes but for whatever reason the blind came stumbling into the house the bible says jesus enters into the house most of the commentaries agree that this is where jesus is living so if you didn't know that jesus had a house he had a house we find it that uh he had a house when the wise men came to visit him he didn't he wasn't just a vagabond living you know on the outskirts of town in a tent he had places that he lived and this is one of those places so as he enters into the house the two blind men come in following him now before this the blind men are following jesus and they're crying son of david have mercy on us son of david have mercy on us and and apparently jesus does not stop and deal with them he allows these men to pursue him he allows the men to follow him because it would take an act of faith in order to receive a miracle there's a lot of people that think they're going to get a miracle just by sitting on a pew and waiting for the lord to come to them where they are you've got to get up and pursue him you got to reach for him that's not how the lord operates you got to you got to stretch yourself a little bit and so that's what these men are doing they are they're pursuing the lord and they follow him into this house now i don't know if you've thought about this but if you were blind it would be very dangerous for you to pursue someone because they're going to take you to places you've never been before unfamiliar places where you could stumble over things you could fall off and off the road into a ditch somewhere you could hurt yourself but yet these men were more concerned about receiving their miracle than they were about their own safety and they just had enough faith to believe that if we'll pursue jesus we don't have to worry about getting lost in this city i don't have to worry about going into an unknown house because the moment jesus touches us the moment jesus heals us we're going to receive our sight and it won't be a problem any longer so yeah we're going to throw caution to the wind and we will pursue him can i just stop and tell somebody it's time that the church stop being so guarded and so careful about pursuing the supernatural in god at some point in your life you just got to take a step of faith and say i don't have a safety net i don't have anything to fall back on i just believe i'm dropping in the darkness but i believe if i can connect with the lord i will receive my miracle amen i'm gonna receive my miracle and jesus they they they follow the lord stumbling into the house of the lord literally the house of the lord and and uh jesus asked them do you believe that i can do this now somebody may have told them we don't know jesus is healing folks we don't know perhaps they just overheard somebody else giving jesus glory for all these miracles but these men somehow knew that jesus was healing folks they they understood but they had never seen it with their own eyes obviously and so they had never witnessed a devil cast out they had never seen the dumb speak they had never seen jesus raise anybody from the dead they had never seen jesus lay hands on anybody else blind or anybody else deaf and see jesus open eyes and unstop deaf ears they were living in complete faith for the unknown just i i've never seen it the unprecedented world of faith i just believe that he's going to do it for us have you seen him do it before never but i believe he will do it for us amen i believe that the church has got to understand the message of these two blind men the miracle of the message of these two blind men is that you can believe god for unprecedented things you can believe god for things that you have never had have witnessed in your life i've never seen god give a miracle like the kind of miracle that i need the lord said that's all right be it unto you according to your faith you may never have seen it but if you've got enough faith to believe it you can receive it hallelujah you see there are a unique group of disciples that have never seen the miracles that they need they've never seen the deliverance that they desire but they just have enough faith they have enough belief in god this just kind of crazy almost reckless faith that says i'm gonna step out into the unknown into the dangerous i'm gonna throw caution to the wind i'm going to trust god for things i've never seen before you can have faith you can have faith for the unprecedented now the ministry and purpose of jesus was to bring restoration that was part of his mission and and uh when when israel was defeated by assyria they they basically decimated all of of judah but eventually when they were freed from the assyrian captivity they were turned and they restored the desert and they caused the desert to bloom again the prophet isaiah came along and said that's what's going to happen pointed back to the time that israel restored what was dead in the desert and said that's what's going to happen when this messiah will come he said the desert not the physical desert but the desert of israel's uh spiritual condition their dryness it will rejoice and it's going to bloom like a rose he said they are going to see the glory of the lord and the excellency of our god then he said strengthen ye the weak hands and confirm the feeble knees and say to them that are of a fearful heart be strong fear not behold your god will come with vengeance or with passion even god with recompense he's going to answer the sinful condition of this world he will come and save you and so then he he narrows it in and said all right now i'm telling you that's that's kind of the passion that this messiah will have and that's the effect it's going to have on the land but then he narrows it down and makes this unique statement that these two blind men have to understand they have to know they said isaiah wrote and said then the eyes of the blind shall be opened and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped then the lame man leap as a heart and the tongue of the dumb sing for in the wilderness shall waters break out and the streams in the desert amen so these blind men understanding these prophecies knew that the lord was encouraged and he was lifting and even though it was early in his in his uh miracle uh work in in ministry they knew that that the wheat were being lifted and and the lame were being encouraged and lifted up and and there was joy in israel again and people were making a lot of noise and if they knew this prophecy which i believe they did that they understood if he's doing all that the bible says then shall the eyes of the blind be open what they were saying is if that's all happened it's our turn now amen this is my moment it's our chance all right just stay with me for one more moment i'm coming to a close and and the lame are going to leap and he said i will restore you so the these these blind men understood that restoration was coming to israel the promise of restoration include the blind and yet jesus said do you believe that i can do it no precedent no proof no foundation for our faith except that i just believe what do you believe i just believe i just believe you know in john 20 and 29 jesus told thomas he said he said thomas because thou has seen me thou has believed but blessed are they which have not seen and yet have believed there is a special blessing on those that can believe god for things that they've never seen before there is a special blessing for those that can step out in faith on hope on a belief on a conviction that god is going to come through now the message of this miracle is that when it comes to the supernatural precedent isn't required all you need to do is have faith to believe you can believe god for things that you've never seen now let me just say jesus continue and said according to your faith be it unto you your ability to receive is connected to your conviction to believe somebody came to church today because they believe god is going to make a way somebody is going to come to the altar here in a few moments because they just believe that god is going to bring a miracle into their life james the god the the epistle of james and and which i'm closing with this musicians please come the epistle of james chapter two and this is where i want you to see this faith is not simply having some mental conviction i just believe it's going to work out i've had people tell me that before well i believe god's going to make a way well why do you believe god's going to make a way well i just believe i just believe james 2 and 18 deals with this he said but someone will say you have faith and i have works show me your faith without your works and i'll show you my faith by my works then he said you believe that there is one god you do well even the devils believe and tremble now that's we quote it often as a proof of one god and it is but but he's not focusing on that's not the purpose of what he's saying is that you believe in one god well big whoop the devils believe that now it doesn't do them any good because they have no covenant they have no hope they're damned for eternity that but yet the devils believe that even though they have no hope they believe the same thing you believe and even the devils when they when they believe it they respond with trembling they do something with it and so that's what james is dealing here with it's not simply about your belief it's about your action when they believe it they tremble so what is your response to your belief or your faith he says but do you you you want to know oh foolish man that faith without works is dead i know a lot of people that are sitting around waiting for financial miracles i just believe god's going to work it out not if you're not a tither foolish foolish it's foolish to expect a miracle if you're not obeying his word and i get it all the time people say well you know but isn't tithing a part of the law listen tithing existed before the law you find it all the way back in the in the first family with cain and abel tithing predated the law it it shows up continually throughout the old testament with abraham so it predated the law you find it even in the new testament amen jesus didn't come to do away with the law in uh in in luke 11 42 jesus is rebuking the pharisees and he's saying listen you're tithing and yet you're you're you're not obeying some other parts of the law jesus said you should do both if tithing wasn't a part of it he had a perfect opportunity to say you shouldn't tithe so even in the new testament we find jesus himself saying you need to be a tither now you weren't expecting this on a sunday morning i'm just throwing this in for free because so many people are needing financial blessings but they're they're just believing it i believe it i believe it if your action doesn't coordinate with your belief your belief is dead your faith is dead faith without works is dead amen i want a new job but i'm not going to fill out any applications dead faith i want a breakthrough preacher but you don't worship dead faith i want to know the lord but you don't pray every day dead faith i i love the lord but i hate my neighbor uh-oh jesus said when you've done it on the least of these you've done it as unto me so find the worst christian you can and love him and you'll pay him back for his love for you that's basically what he's saying you got you got to put some action behind your faith your belief amen well if i want to know more about the lord well not if you're not reading the bible every day [Music] amen your faith has to be mingled with works act it's activated by works you're believing god for revival nobody's worshiping i want i want the holy ghost to move in the service well what are you doing if everybody in this church worship like you worship would we ever have a breakthrough oh man see i've done i've done switched into pastoring this is what pastor looks like i turn from an evangelist into a pastor real quick listen we have got to understand that god blesses our action our acts of faith that's what james is saying your faith without works is dead if you want a miracle give god something to work with can we stand together [Applause] every one of us in life are faced with needs or we need god to come through i wonder is there anybody here today that needs a miracle in your life whether it's financial a miracle of restoration healing in your body healing of a loved one maybe you need a miracle in your job just lift your hand if that's you you need a miracle maybe not everybody needs a miracle i think if you stop for just a moment most everybody would say yeah well in that area i need a miracle i need god to work something out hands all across this room so many needed miracles i want to encourage you give god something to work with do something based on your belief and and we've encouraged this as part of our culture for many years we've had people bring job applications up and i want you to anoint this with oil okay you know and and that act of faith is what is what brought about the miracle we've had folks trying to break addictions and they write down their addictions or maybe if it's cigarettes they they take those cigarettes and they they you know take it out into a field somewhere and dig a hole and bury it i'm talking about acts that god can honor faith without works is dead i always encourage you do something but one of the easiest acts of faith is responding to the word of the lord that's why it's so important that every time we give an altar call it's so important for you to do something walking down to the front god is god back where you're sitting or standing just like he's got up here it's not about that it's about that act of faith where you step out and say god i believe that when i get down to the front of the church and i lift my hands that you're gonna give me the supernatural miracle that i need in my life so before i open these altars i just want to warn you don't come down here if you don't need a miracle this is not for you but if you need a miracle in your life i don't want you to think about it stop reasoning like those blind men throw caution to the wind and just start reaching i just believe when i touch jesus i'm gonna see a miracle so i open these altars don't think about it come on just take that step of faith whatever you have need of just walk down whatever area of your life when you come to the front just come as close as you can allow room for everybody behind you just step all the way forward i need a miracle i need a miracle in my home my family my job i need a miracle in my finances amen come on take that step of faith hallelujah i feel the holy ghost moving right now i believe god is bringing healing in this place somebody has come and they're desperate i'm dissatisfied i've never seen god do anything like what i need but i just believe he's going to perform it hallelujah that's it let him see those tears let him see the desperation god i need you i need a miracle in my life lord jesus i need a miracle i need you to work it out hallelujah jesus thank you lord that's it but they don't know you amen if you're not down in the front find somebody and pray with them give god something lift your hands to the lord just say god as i lift my hands lord i believe in you for a miracle hallelujah there is [Music] they haven't seen what you can do there is power in your name so much [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] we know that hope is still [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] still gonna make a away [Music] is [Music] [Music] by the way where there seems to be no way [Music] [Applause] [Music] i'm not going to speak out i'm not gonna complain about the negative things of life i'm just gonna trust god in the name of jesus christ [Applause] [Music] jesus thank [Music] is [Music] is [Music] [Music] i hallelujah just tell the lord i thank you in advance [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] i yes [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] is of faith and i believe you right now god you're gonna make a way according to his faith according to his faith in jesus name so be it we trust you lord thank you jesus we thank you in advance for what you're doing hallelujah before the week is over we're going to see it come to pass in jesus name before the week is over hallelujah thank you jesus thank you jesus hallelujah thank you jesus [Music] god [Music] [Music] somebody just sing that with us come on sing it to the lord you say and it is done i said just speak it to the lord [Music] hallelujah in jesus name hallelujah thank you jesus hallelujah oh yes lord hallelujah [Music] is [Music] is is [Music] and if is god is with us [Applause] is [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] amen amen thank god for what he's doing here today i just want to close with this i want to remind everyone about our services this evening before we're dismissed before you step out i just want to say that if you maybe you didn't receive everything you need today but it's important to take a step of faith there's three things that you can do before you leave to take sort of that that step that god can honor an act of faith out in the foyer there is a table over against the stairs it's our connection booth and you can sign up for our one of our small groups that's happening this week you need friends that's a good first step you can sign up for one of our bible studies that are happening on tuesday night or you can sign up for what we call pastors reception and it's a monthly meeting with my wife and i and all the new families for that that uh that month and there's usually you know 10 11 12 or so people and it has refreshments very easy we'll talk about how uh to become a member if you're interested in it's not committing to anything it's just hearing more about it so we're sort of an orientation but all of that is available out there and it's an easy way to take that next step to get your life together to get what you need from the lord and bring order to your life amen so i'm so glad that egypt here at this time i'm asking brother leo one of our ministers to come and he's going to pray a prayer of dismissal and after he's finished praying you can consider yourself dismissed all of our first and second time guests remember you've got some free stuff don't leave without your free stuff all you have to do is go into the cafe take your little token in there and you can redeem it for some gifts that we have for you even if you didn't like the service you might as well get your free stuff and uh and so but we're honored to have you here remember our service this evening at 6 00 p.m completely different service we encourage everyone to be here choir will be singing it will be a great night of worship for the leader would you come all right church i don't know about y'all but i'm going towards my miracle towards my faith going towards it and now let's pray to be dismissed lord we thank you for this service that we had today this move of god this move of faith that we're going to go according to our faith lord jesus that we may go out of here changed and refreshed and filled with your presence lord jesus as we continue this week and we come back tonight at this service let us come safely and go home safely and praise the food that we're about to eat in jesus name we pray you can consider yourself dismissed [Music] [Music] cheers [Music] is [Music] is [Music] [Music] breaks is changed [Music] [Music] before the kingdom [Music] is [Music] oh [Music] [Music] first [Music] [Music] for who can stop the lord [Music] almighty can stop the lord [Music] uh [Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] my [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] here as we wait seek your face come and make your throne upon our pace here in this have your way the moment [Music] fall down [Music] my you
