what a beautiful day it is anybody else happy to be in god's house this morning anybody else happy to be in god's house amen let's pray right now let's ask god to fill this place with his presence thank you lord god thank you for the opportunity the honor and the privilege of being in your house today god we ask you to move into this place god open our ears to hear in our hearts to receive your word and remove any distractions and any fear and any doubt and anything that would keep us from receiving from you today there might be people in this place that need a miracle god and we know that you're a miracle worker hallelujah we ask you to move god move move move let your holy spirit move god help us to align with your will and your purpose god we know that you want us to be a shining light in a darkness we know that you want to move in this place we know that you want to move in this community in our homes and our lives god we know that you want to impact the city god for your glory sake hallelujah we want to be the vessel we want to be the hands that you use we want to be the feet that you use god we want to be the people of the mighty god hallelujah we want to be those ambassadors of christ hallelujah bring in the gospel to those that are in need bring in hope helping those that are in need god we ask you to help us today help us to be that church that you've called us to be help us to be the people of prom it's the people of hope in the name of jesus just for the next few seconds would you raise your hands and would you raise your voice and would you worship god with me lord you're wonderful you're great hallelujah i don't deserve your love or your mercy or your blessings but i come to offer all the praise all the honor all the glory to the king of kings understanding will guard our hearts it's not god's will for us to be anxious it's not god's will for us to be worried so if you would if you've got a need come right on amen come right on don't let anything hinder you this is your moment this is your time if you have a need in your body if you have a need in your life come right forward they're going to begin to sing again and as they sing if having the best hope in this universe [Applause] and the good news is there is no magic formula there is no trick there is no secret except for this if you will open your heart to the presence of the lord and the spirit of the lord he will meet you right where you are don't wait until you're good enough for god just get into his presence right now hallelujah amen what a wonderful spirit of the a month is our membership experience if you are new to the pentecostals if you just recently been born in the church so to speak you've received the holy ghost you've been baptized or you've just moved into our church and you want to know what it's all about what ministries are available to you this is coming up this wednesday night so how this works is we'll have our service preliminaries a worship offering all of those things and then when it comes time for teaching we will break out into several classes membership experience this wednesday is one of those classes so if you'd like more you a basketball can't say that but jesus can put your marriage back together again put your heart back together again [Music] i feel the holy ghost in this place today i feel the presence of the lord hallelujah the miracle worker is in the house [Music] amen amen you may be seated what a joy to have with us our evangelist brother charles o'rourke he has been with us now for i want to say five weeks and over the course of the past five weeks i think we have somewhere around 76 people who have received the baptism of the holy ghost we are so thankful for what god has done we're also thankful for our friend this is his last sunday with us he will be with us on wednesday night today he will be ministering with our pre-teen and youth combined we want him to come and greet us would you put your hands together and welcome our evangelist the lord everybody i first want to tell you everybody that i love you all this is a great church it's been a it's been a fun enjoyable time as we've had our ups and our downs uh when it's outreach reaching people getting people connected committed but i'm excited about people that have continued to come continue to serve and continue to love god i love this church i love uh brother and sister pastor and sister mckee every time you can walk in a building and even if you feel like you're a little tired or discouraged i'm not trying to go on but this last sunday morning i got to say something so sister mckee starts singing in the rest of the crowd and i'm not trying to leave anybody out because but when she starts singing the rest of the crowd it just lifts me up and i want to say that you're blessed you're very blessed to have them [Music] i may be hot on saturday but i look forward and i'm gonna miss this i don't get all emotional but i'm gonna miss this singing behind me because even when i cut hot and discouraged i come in on sunday and i get to hear this music y'all don't know how i'm sorry i'll shut up but it just getting them sing and dr wilson gets them going he just switches it and they just do a wonderful job he just we're going to sing this we're going to sing this and that you're you just don't know how blessed you guys are do you but you need to understand you and then i'm going to say something it's my last time because i'm not going to be here with them they're going in they're so busy they're so wanted and then demand pastors great church pastor mckee i'm sitting up in the office with him and i'm going to say this he's up there sharing with me what he's going to be speaking about this morning and he's sharing me well let me tell you this let me tell you this and i said brother mckee can i ask you one question and i said it very respectful as the pastor of this great church he is so intelligent he is so smart that i'm not trying to be i'm not trying to i said brother mckee do you ever feel like you have to just slow it down a little bit because you have so much information to share that these people just like whoa whoa pastor i can't retain all that he just smiled he's extremely intelligent you're extremely blessed they came and built this great church and i'm sorry but i felt like i need to say this i'm not trying to go on you are blessed i love this family dr wilson and his wife doctor they're so wonderful all of you that helped me on outreach brother chris so many others of you thank you for all the hard work we've got people that have been faithful i'm proud of so excited about marcus and his sweet lady there they got one update they got the hugs are baptized i'm so excited about this young lady on the second row my sweet friend right here she may not answer a phone but my goodness she's going to show up to church on sunday brother eric i'm so happy that you hear so many that are watching around the world and listening uh to our our simulcast uh on revival radio it's so good to have each of you here and not only does this church minister here in our community in the city and all across houston south texas but also at our other campuses but then there's there's even a further extension of minister all the churches that have uh are now all being led by ministers that came out of this local saying i thank god for that i don't take that lightly i thank god for what he's doing amen through you through your extension of ministry and uh we want to celebrate that and i am so excited uh that one of the families from our church is about to be going on a missions trip to botswana i'd like to ask the zach long family if they would please come brother long is a minister of the gospel he has worked in missions before his parents our full-time missionaries have been for for a number of years he was raised on the mission field but he and his family have been a part of our congregation for many years now at this point and their girls are my buddies and uh but we are so glad that they have an opportunity and god has opened up a door for them to travel for a short missions trip uh to botswana the country of botswan i'd like to ask the ministers to come and what i would like for us to do today is i want god to use this couple they're going to be there until the month of december and he'll be teaching he'll be preaching helping organize the work there churches all across the country of botswana and there is a tremendous need in this nation and i really feel like that the hands of this church need to send them forth with blessing and we want god to be with them and use them so if you could stretch your hands out to this family this morning and let's pray that god uses them they're going to be leaving this week headed on their missionary assignment let's pray that god would work with them father i thank you thank you for this wonderful family thank you for your hand upon their life and minister to them god we send them forth today as ambassadors we send them forth lord god with the anointing of this church resting upon them i pray that you would work through them work through their ministry use them god give them favor with souls god give them favor with the churches and pastors that they'll be leading and assisting i ask god that you would work through this family protect them keep them safe in jesus name in jesus name we pray everybody said amen amen if you love the lord clap your hands amen [Applause] amen again we we love the long family we're going to miss them as they travel but i am excited for them i'm telling you it was a miracle how god worked this out and uh he has a full-time job and it just sort of worked out where they could go and travel and and he's going to continue to work abroad and so thank god for all of that amen god is so good you may be seated we're going to do something special today because this is labor day weekend we are not having an evening service we're typically we have a sunday night service which is a completely different service than our sunday morning service and if you've never been to a sunday night church service you just you know you just don't know what you're missing it we you know sunday nights are how pentecostals got their reputation and sunday nights the choir is typically singing we've got a lot of exciting things that are happening on sunday night that are completely different than a sunday morning service so we will resume our sunday evening services next week but because of the holiday and so many people will be traveling we wanted to give our staff the same opportunity even though i know many of you would be at church tonight we want to give our staff the opportunity to spend time with their families and so we will not be having an evening service so i i encourage you to uh to take advantage of this evening let the lord work through you and you know if you feel impressed invite somebody out to eat whatever the case is i hope you have a have a good evening labor day has always sort of baffled me while we call it labor day when nobody was working but we we take this time to uh obviously eat and uh and have a good time but i want to since we're only having one service today i don't want to get in a big hurry we're not going to have a long drawn-out service but i did want to take just a few moments i'm going to ask my wife to come every week she gets up and leads worship but it's rare that she just comes up and sings a solo and so i've asked her to sing this morning i hope this is okay amen [Music] she is she has been my favorite singer since she was 12 years old and she was my high school sweetheart actually i was in high school she was she wasn't yet but [Music] we are [Music] i waited till she grew up okay i went just don't you gotta explain everything these days uh but i uh i am so thankful for her and for her ministry and she's did a tremendous job by the way speaking at the socal ladies conference this past week and she'll be singing at a concert i think tuesday night up in nashville and i just i love her and i appreciate her and the giftings that god has given to her put your hands together and let's welcome my beautiful wife i recorded this song about 20 years ago and it's one of my daddy's favorite and i want to just dedicate it to somebody maybe who's going through a difficult time i know my sister if you're watching i'm dedicating this to you my brother-in-law's been very very sick with covid pneumonia my niece has 32 weeks pregnant she's got covered pneumonia and so i know a lot of people have gone through very stressful times and i just want this song to be a song of an encouragement to you here today [Music] when you're up against a wall and your mountain seems so tall and you realize life's [Music] let the old man decide or you could change circumstances with a hands to the lord today amen if you're here for the first time let me just say it is so good to have you if i haven't met you yet my name is rob mckee and i'm the senior pastor here at the pentecostals and of course along with my beautiful wife i just want to say we're honored that you're with us today and if you're looking for a home church i say this every week if you're looking for a home church and you're a bit unsure you don't really know maybe these crazy pentecostals could be a church that i could attend not real sure yet i just want to encourage you to do what we call stick six because every service at a pentecostal church is different this week's service will be a lot different than next week's service and and so in order to get a good picture and make an educated decision on whether or not we're the church for you it takes about six services and we have three every week uh three different services every week sunday morning sunday night and a midweek service before you can get a good picture of whether or not we are the church that you want to be a part of and it's so important the church that you select uh it could make an eternal difference i mean literally whether or not you make it to eternity many times is is could be determined by our um by the the church that we join ourselves into and uh and so in six services you'll get a good picture of our values the doctrine that we preach the uh the lifestyle that we practice we just believe that the lord deserves our very best and i'm so thankful that we have people from almost every demographic of life we've got 39 40 countries represented in our congregation at least we've i think we may even have more than that and uh and and it's it's just great being a part of a family i'm probably closer to to our our church members even though we're not related by the any other blood except the blood of jesus i'm probably closer to you than i am many of my own family and i just i love you know just being a part of a local assembly of believers and i like you you may not even like me but i like you anyway and we're so glad that you're here with us why don't you turn to somebody next year and tell them i like you amen all right thank the lord if you have your bibles if you would please turn with me to the gospel of mark and while you're turning there the gospel of mark is one of four gospels that tell the story the birth the life the ministry the trial the um the death the burial the resurrection of jesus christ one of four gospels the gospel of mark was the first one that was actually published and then matthew and luke were published around the same time and much later the gospel of john but matthew mark and luke are what many people refer to as the synoptic gospels and it basically means system but it it also sort of implies that they're similar so you'll find a lot of the same miracles that matthew mark and luke together the same miracles are described john is much different as a matter of fact that was one of the purposes john told his disciple polycarp later you read it in historical documents that that one of his purposes for writing the gospel of john was to include the things that were omitted from the other three gospels and so that's why you'll find unique miracles in john that you won't see in the other gospels it's just recorded in john's gospel now he has some of the same things recorded as well but much of john is is unique in that that he records a lot of the early ministry of jesus and the other three record the latter latter part of the ministry of jesus but i wanted to i'm going to preach today using as our texts the gospel of mark mark was the first published but the story that we're going to use as our text is actually actually occurs in all three of the gospels and it it's always recorded in much the same way and uh it's dangerous to do what i'm going to do today because i'm preaching on two different miracles uh unique situations but there's a purpose for it john chapter 5 and verse number 21 john chapter 5 and verse number 21 and we're continuing our series on the message in the miracle and just for the sake of time let's go ahead and begin reading in john 2 5 and 21 everybody read it out loud with me and when jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side much people gathered unto him and he was nigh unto the sea and behold there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue jerius by name and when he saw him he fell at his feet and besought him greatly saying my daughter my little daughter lieth at the point of death i pray thee come and lay thy hands on her that she may be healed and she shall live and jesus went with him and much people followed him and thronged him here's a break in the narrative it's a little bit different but stay with me and a certain woman which had an issue of blood 12 years and suffered many things of many of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing bettered but rather grew worse when she had heard of jesus came in the press behind and touched his garment for she said if i may touch his clothes but his clothes i shall be whole and straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague and jesus immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him turned him about in the press and said who touched my clothes and his disciples said unto him unto him thou seest the multitude thronging thee and saith thou who touched me and he looked round about to see her that had done this thing but the woman fearing and trembling knowing what was done in her came and fell down before him and told him all the truth and he said unto her daughter thy faith hath made thee whole go in peace and behold from that plague now we're going back to the first story while he spake there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said thy daughter is dead why troublest thou the master any further and as soon as jesus heard the word that was spoken he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue be not afraid only believe now very quickly and i say this only because there's new people i know many of you have heard this explanation many times but please just be patient with me there were there were several instances in the gospels where jesus heals many but there's no detail given not all of the details are recorded john 21 and 25 john wrote that if there are so many other things which jesus did the which if they should all have been recorded that jesus said and did that i suppose even the world itself could not contain the books thereof that's what john said you you haven't heard everything you haven't heard the whole story and and we don't get that in in matthew 4 23 jesus heals all every disease and sickness among the people matthew 12 15 great multitudes followed him and he healed them all who we don't know just all what did he heal him of we don't know wasn't important for us there's apparently no reason for us to know the details luke 9 and 11 jesus spake unto them of the kingdom of god and healed them that had need of healing who's the them don't know what did they what were they sick of we don't know but in other places the narrative slows down and we get a picture of who it is we hear about the history we we have interaction between jesus and it's all recorded so the only reason it's recorded is there's some other truth that god wants us to have from that text and it can't be that he's a healer he's already established that he heals he healed all those that were oppressed so there's a deeper message in these miracles these what i call the described miracles of jesus than that he's just a healer okay and and so we've been going through these miracles systematically if you want to go back and catch up they're all online we post them all online but um today we're going to be looking at at two of the miracles miracles nine and ten we're working our way through the 27 miracles of jesus and each of these has a very special message for each of us lay your bibles down let's pray father i thank you for your word i thank you lord for every person that's gathered here this morning i pray that you would help us lord help us to hear what you're speaking to the church today lord we need you in this house thank you lord and everybody said in jesus name god bless you may be seated there there are many professions that lend themselves to notoriety we often hear of of sports athletes and actors and attorneys and politicians of course there many of their names are household names that we're aware of but there's one profession that you don't know a lot of people that practice it they're not uh typically in in the forefront of sort of our cultural conscious and they're they are food critics food critics how many famous food critics do you know probably not a lot uh if i were to survey the crowd there's not a lot of people that know of uh could name very many food critics but i want to introduce you to one food critic i believe i've got a picture of two people sitting at the table if you could show that um and this gentleman's name here is duncan he's here with his wife and they're eating uh cake and aid at the age of 55 years old duncan decided that he wanted to be a food critic and so to start his career to launch his career he published a food and hotel guide and of course just to date his food guide one of the restaurants that he reviewed was a brand new restaurant called sanders court and cafe sanders court and cafe was was uh the original name of kentucky fried chicken uh my good old harlan sanders um colonel sanders but um he decided that that's what i want to do now go back to the other picture if you could uh and uh at the age of 73 he uh mr duncan decided that he had achieved fame everybody knew who he was and he decided to um to get involved in the production business and and produce food and so he licensed his name to a local factory at 73 years old and they started duncan heinz cake mixes 73 years old hard to believe when most people are retired at that age this yet this man is starting something brand new history's filled with a lot of people like this a gentleman the next gentleman uh ray kroc it's a black and white photo if you there you go ray kroc you may or may not have heard of it this man before but he was 52 years old and he was stuck at a dead-end job as a salesman and he had good good months and and bad months but he uh he was working in the exciting business of ice cream machines that's what he did he sold uh machines that they would use in restaurants to to make ice cream and make shakes and so he was he was driving around los angeles trying to sell somebody and an ice cream shake machine and stumble on a small small little hamburger shack and i got to talking to the owners instead of of selling them an ice cream machine he decided to invest in their company and borrowed money and bought this business from these two gentlemen and um and eventually he would go on all this was at age 52 he ultimately would open other businesses and then franchise and turn it into what we know of today as the global juggernaut just the the worldwide conglomerate of mcdonald's you can go anywhere in the world today you're going to find a mcdonald's all started with a man who was 52 years old just decided on a whim one day i want to start something different and then of course harlan sanders of course you put the picture up a moment ago harlan sanders was a failure in life he had gotten fired from a dozen or so jobs before starting his restaurant and then of course he failed at that he went out of business and he found himself at the age of 65 years old completely penniless he was absolutely broke and um but he decided you know 65 years old that's a good time to start something different and so he found a chicken recipe and the rest is history kentucky fried chicken would become another uh worldwide phenomena and um of course uh he had incredible success in in in his life at at a very late age in life i i could share a lot of these stories and and um go ahead and put our title slide back up i could share many of these stories but uh i won't take a long time there are certain people like uh grandma moses you may have heard her name uh not related to me that was what the name that she went by her last name was moses but uh grandma moses began painting before this she was a seamstress she decided you know i want to try my hand at painting and so at 78 years old she started painting and became very passionate about it immediately was a hit and started the successful career i think when before she passed her paintings were going for over 1.6 million dollars a piece all of these people in life started what we would consider careers too late they started at times when it seemed like they were beyond their their years of prime we would have told them you need to just relax and and find a way to be comfortable this morning i'm not just preaching to the elderly demographic so don't worry you're thinking man it sounds like he's preaching to all the older folks this morning i'm not i promise i'm sort of uh preaching a concept an idea that i felt very strongly about and um you know as we've been going through these 27 described miracles of jesus there are a lot of messages that that i believe are sort of the overwhelming concepts that scripture is trying to communicate through these described miracles and i i believe that this this message in particular these miracles miracles 9 and 10 like many others are connected and if you want to go back and see the connections of the other miracles just go back on our our uh youtube or our facebook page or even our website it has all the messages there's connections between many of these miracles but this these two miracles unlike all the other miracles occur at the same time it's unlike any other miracles jesus performed these two miracles are going on simultaneously he's on his way to the house of jairus and he's interrupted another miracle takes place and then he completes goes back to um the healing of jairus daughter and so these messages are these miracles are interwoven they're entwined you can't talk about one miracle without talking about the other if you're going to finish the story of jericho you're going to have to cover the story of the woman pressing her way through the crowd and it's intentional all three of the gospels include this interruption all three of them not one of them omits the story or or says oh and by the way there was also another woman in the street they they all put it chronologically in order that this is where it started and then this is the interruption and then he goes back to his his primary purpose now both miracles begin with the critical condition of jarrius and all three accounts refer to him as a ruler of the synagogue luke references him as the leader of the synagogue the other two say a leader of the synagogue but he was not an insignificant person he was right in the heart of the dealings of government remember that in uh in the days of of jesus ministry here on earth there were two governments that culture had to deal with there was the the roman government and then there was the hebrew element of government both had soldiers both had enforcers both had laws and you could uh you know you could violate either one now the way that rome conquered a providence they would come in and they would conquer it but then they would allow the locals as long as their law did not violate roman law they would allow them to operate as as sort of uh embassaries um and in implement their own unique laws and that's the way it was for israel they had their own unique laws that while you might not be violating roman law you could still violate hebrew law and go to jail and be beaten and be arrested so it's it's very important to understand that so um what i i i felt the lord speak to me about today was this idea of timing again uh like the the first first two miracles of jesus i think we're coming back to this idea of timing and so many people feel as though they've they've passed their their sort of window of opportunity in life and that's i want to i want to speak to you this morning now jarius uh is is a leader of the synagogue and he is he's responsible for establishing and executing the policies of the synagogue uh and of the culture now jarius was uh is an unknown figure up to this point jarius is is just part of the synagogue which the synagogue was not friendly to the ministry of jesus you know we often hear the phrase pharisees and the pharisees were part of this of this system the pharisees and the sadducees and they were critics of jesus and jesus when he would speak to both he would often pit them against the other and and and they would come up with all their own rules and laws and by the time jesus was finished he would have both groups defending him and so he was just a master he just knew what everybody was thinking and uh and and yet uh these two elements within the local synagogue often became the greatest and most harsh critics of jesus remember it was from this environment that we uh in the temple that we see jesus ultimately arrested in the garden it was this same group of people that were the antagonists of most of the ministry of jesus so jarius was not just some long time devout believer of jesus but he was part of a group of people that were hostile violently hostile towards jesus and they followed him everywhere listening for every word that he spoke trying to entrap him they would meet regularly the gospels tell us that they would meet together and they would plan together how can we entrap him in his words and what is it that we can what questions can we ask him that would somehow cause him to violate hebrew law or roman law and and so they were always planning and scheming jarrius was a part of that group he was not a friendly he was not a fan he was not a contingent of of of of of christianity and that's that season he was part of the antagonist and so uh there's no doubt that jerius had his doubts about jesus there's no question that for at least a good portion of his his adult life jerius uh was a it was critical of the ministry of jesus but then his daughter became sick it's amazing what happens when you go through a personal crisis what happens to your long-held dislikes and prejudices and your your you know your stance and your strongholds of life i'm never i'm never going to do that and then you go through a crisis and you learn you'll you're capable of of sacrificing a lot of your long-held prejudice when you're really in a time of need how many can say amen amen and so our bias and a lot of those things change in moments when we're personally going through issues so people that we're critical of we will reach out to when we're going through a crisis and uh but at this moment his daughter his beloved daughter is now at death's door and at this moment he ignores social peer pressure and the controversy that would surely come once his his peers find out uh that he has gone and made a request of of jesus and uh they considered him a rebel they considered him an enemy of the work of god and so once his his contemporaries learn that he went to jesus there would be consequences they're going to be there was a good chance he could lose his job there's a good chance he would lose his social standing and he would he would lose his reputation obviously and so there was a lot on the line for jarius when he finally decided i'm sick and tired of worrying about the consequences my daughter is sick and i'm sick of worrying about what people think about me i'm tired of worrying about what the opinions of others would be i'm not going to worry about my job i don't care about any of it what i care about is my daughter and i need a miracle in my life there may be somebody here today and you're in that same situation you've said for years i don't need church i don't need god god's not you know just doesn't fit in my schedule but then you get into a desperate situation and you realize what i need now is not a good time church it's not even a good music program i don't need a cool church what i need is a miracle i need jesus and my life i need god to do something for me anybody is that your testimony today now if you come just to fit in if you come just to be seen you've come to fit in another social club we may not be the church for you but if you're hungry for god if you need a miracle in your life you have come to the right place now thank god for a wonderful congregation a lot of great people and again i'll say it again this is like a family church i love being a part of this local assembly but i didn't come for your sake today i came because i need something from the lord look at your neighbor and tell them i like you come on some of you don't didn't do that even if you don't like them tell them i like you but i didn't come for you i came for a miracle is there anybody that needs a miracle in their life today anybody amen because when the doctors can't help and there's no answers people who once stood against the work of god will find their way into a church where god is where they know something supernatural is happening around here that's why i like to mention it right about there roughly about there about 20 feet from from the edge of the platform we had a lady healed completely blind not somebody i think was blind somebody i know was blind been blind for over a year god opened up her her eyes and she walked across the front of this church shouting i can see i can see we had another lady right over here had severe arthritis her hands were curled up in the same service god god healed her and she had no more pain we had another young lady that had been in a wheelchair for four months doctors couldn't figure out what the issue was in the middle of a service she got up and has not gone back to that wheelchair ever since you're in a church that believes in miracles amen i know a lot of there's a lot of fakes out there and there's a lot of people that say oh it's just showmanship but i have i i have discovered when you're sick in your body and the doctors don't have an answer i'm so glad that i can call on the powerful name of jesus and he is a healer amen amen it hasn't been that long ago just back in january we had a service our prayer revival annual prayer revival and and in just a few moments 19 people instantly healed in their body just right across the front of the church if you're here today and you have a need in your body you need healing you're in the right place we have miracles happen here all the time not because of us not because of the group of people that are here but because of him jesus is here and where jesus is miracles take place not a fairy tale not just something good to say they really do happen how many here have had a miracle happen in your life now now don't just well i got up this morning that's that yeah i believe that but you know at some point in your life you were either healed god supernaturally provided where there was no way god made a way you know for a fact i had a miracle in my life if you could please stand look around you amen you are you are standing in a place filled with testimonies that god is a healer god gives miracles god makes a way amen thank you may be seated amen if you're here today and you need a miracle you're in the right place and so jairus realizes my situation has gone too far and i don't need a pat on the back i need a miracle with every labored breath of his daughter every moment he realizes the life is slipping away from her i'm running out of time now why did jarius wait so long it had to be pride pride and peer pressure you know it's amazing what they can do to us they can cause us to wait until the final moments of our life the critical moments of our life i just i just wonder why do we torture ourselves and delay and procrastinate when we're running out of time amen why do we wait so long to surrender to the lord why do we do it that's why the book of acts when paul when when saul is on his way to tarsus and and and the lord strikes him off of his beast and he falls on the ground and he says lord who art thou and he says saul i'm jesus whom you persecuted and he said saw salt it is hard for you to kick against the pricks what he was saying was it's hard for you to kick against the ox goat i'm trying to turn you i'm trying to guide you but you're kicking against it and saul all you're doing is hurting yourself why do we hurt ourselves by fighting against the leading of the lord and god tries to direct us and problems happen in our life and god's trying to point us in the right direction but we fight against it we resist it and we hold on to our position say i'm not going to church i'm not going to get right with god i'm just gonna hang on here i'm gonna fight it we hurt ourselves unnecessarily it's amazing torment ourselves life would be so much better if we just surrendered to god the way of the transgressor is hard you're just asking for more trouble by fighting against the lord wants to bless you he wants your life to be good and at some point the smartest thing that you can do is say enough is enough that i got to get right with jesus today not tomorrow not next week we're running out of time and my problems are getting worse every day yeah i tried to handle it by myself but look at what that's got for me i i don't i don't like colloquialisms and and i'll try to avoid them all the time but but there's a saying that started a few years ago when when you would express some some habit or something that you've been doing for a long time that's not working and somebody would say how's that working out for you i just want to know how how's how's that sin working out for you how's how's that that sinful behavior working out for you is your life better is it blessing you are you further along today than you were yesterday truth is we're all limiting ourselves by by continuing in the same patterns that that take us continually into trouble and and so but jarius finally decides i'm going to jesus and he runs and falls at the feet of jesus you know it must have been quite a shock for the crowd to see jerius come running one of their own i mean this he's one of us we're in meetings all the time trying to catch jesus and that's the only reason the rest of the the you know the the crew is there we're following him to try to find out things that we can use against him and here comes one of our own one of the leaders of the synagogue but he's got tears streaming down his face and he falls at the feet of jesus it must have been quite a shock for the rest of the group to think what is he doing this guy there's he's got to have some other some other motive what's he up to surely he's not going to ask him for something he's and and yet jerius cries out and says lord you've got to come help my daughter is at the point of death now at this point i think the story is significant because most of us when when that would happen we would turn and reach back into into the persons history and we would parade it and say hey wait a second you were criticizing me yesterday now you you were talking about me you know aren't you the guy that was saying that i was fake and now you're asking me for a miracle aren't you the one that's been critiquing every word that i've said for months and now you're coming to me and that's how we would respond but jesus is not like that some of us are worried that he's like that but he's not when we run to the lord he's not going to say oh by the way remember how you used to act when i tried to reach out to you and you ignored me now you want me now i'm looking good to you what happened you know what happened now you know what what changed but but jesus doesn't hang his past over him he simply says yeah i'll come i love i love the fact that that he is kind when we finally wise up and realize he is our answer jesus simply agreed often we assume that god responds to submission the way that that we do god never gloats over our surrender but he simply says i'm coming now hope in this moment is restored and here they go they're on their way to jairus's house arm and arm and of course if jerry has had his way they would be running but because he knows that her time is limited but they're walking and walking slow enough that someone presses their way through the crowd and touches the hem of his garment now mark says that he touched his garment but matthew and luke both reference the hem of his garment the edge the border the boundary of his garment this woman with the issue of blood presses her way through the crowd and touches him and there's i i don't want to confuse you because i'm jumping to a a different miracle but this woman is is significant and they're these two people are tied together this woman is homeless she's destitute the bible says that she has spent all of her living on her issue and now she's broke she's helpless and she's hopeless her condition her one condition has led her to the point of desperation somebody here today is in a similar state they've they've been dealing with a debilitating issue that sort of permeates and overwhelms all the other areas of their life it's anybody know what i'm talking about when you have that one thing that you used to isolate and say well that's that's that's just one little challenge i've got but then that thing starts growing and growing until it just completely overwhelms you until it becomes the thing that just destroys your life your relationship your your marriage that's where this woman was this one issue has destroyed and taken everything from her she is she's without food she's without shelter she has spent all of her living she has nothing left but there's still hope for you she said if i can just touch the hymn of his garment i will be made whole now the greek word in the new testament is the word cross pettin and it it means the margin or fringe or a tassel but in the old testament the old testament was written in hebrew and there's a lot that is said about this portion of your garment in numbers 15 verse 38 god speaks to israel and he he uh he tells them that that he wants them to um make fringes in the borders of their garments and that word borders mean is the word uh kanna kunoff and it it means um it means borders or boundaries or uh the fringe and it he he says and and i want you to put it on your uh your uh your garments throughout the generation so this is not just for old testament uh but this is throughout your generations and that you put it on the fringe of the borders or the canal a ribbon of blue and it shall be unto you for a fringe that that you may look on it and here's why to remember the commandments of the lord and to do them and that you seek not after your own heart your own eyes which after after which you go a whoring in other words when you look at this border in your garment i want you to remember the law of god i want you to remember the the covenant the commandments so that you're always reminded of my law and and that you need to live according to my way my plan now um we know that the law begins with hero israel the lord our god is one jesus said that that that all of the commandments are based on on two laws actually hear o israel the lord our god is one thou shalt love the lord thy god with all thy heart mind soul and strength but then the second is like and unto unto it and and it it's it's love thy neighbor as thyself and he said on these two laws all the other commandments hang now i i don't want to get sidetracked but but but that's those those are two of the laws that they would be reminded of when they saw the border of their garment um and uh in psalms 19 7 the bible says that the law of the lord is perfect converting the soul when when when you get the law in your life it will change you it'll transform you so the law is not some evil word i know in our culture and especially in church culture i don't know where it happened we somehow get this idea that that the law is bad and jesus is good but the law is bad and jesus was mercy but the law was evil jesus did not come to do away with the law he came to fulfill the law so the ceremonial laws of the old testament have been fulfilled in jesus no we don't practice all the feasts and the celebrations that we used to or the even the sacrifices that we used to but but the law jesus didn't come to do away with the law thank god because one of those laws is don't murder that's still that's still the law okay and and uh and and so i'm going to say man y'all making me nervous this morning mighty quiet all right just want to make sure we're all on the same page with all murder thing right all right all right and so they were they would remember the law and when they looked at the hymn now after this uh the jews came up with different ways to fulfill this commandment they came up with what's called the talit and if you've ever seen someone with a prayer shawl all of the fringes around that prayer shawl have meaning so the knots the colors all of those things have types and shadows so a a jew would would tell you okay that you know that those knots this is what it means this is you know there's five knots in it that's representing the law of moses and and so on and so forth so that it was symbolism the the blue threads throughout it they all meant something specific in jewish culture now the lord didn't tell them how to do it but but they kind of came up with a system of remembering the law in this over over time this style had changed and instead of the four corners the the cloth became a little bit more rounded at the bottom but it still fulfilled the same purpose the israelites uh had developed this this thing called talit and so all orthodox jews of the day wore this on their their uh the border of their their garment now when the woman with the issue of blood touched the hem of his garment what she was doing was touching this this border this boundary this con colton off of of his garment and and she was touching the law the question is why did she do it okay i know we it's easy to say well she did it in faith expecting her healing but leviticus 15 tells us that if a woman were to have a disease like this she was unclean and anything that she touched was unclean she was breaking the law she could go to jail she could be beaten she could be thrown into jail over this taken into court charged with it so this was a big deal she was putting a lot of faith in in that that touch okay i'm gonna touch him and when i'm when i touch him i will be healed she had to believe it because if she touched him and she wasn't healed somebody turns around and sees her issue she she would be end up in prison and her life would even get worse than what it was so she had placed a lot of faith in that touch that she really believed it so why did she take such a huge risk in touching jesus now the answer can be found in scripture every jew knew the word of god now 500 years before the beginning of of or before the birth of christ 500 years previous the final prophet of the old testament malachi he prophesied and he wrote the book of malachi now the book of malachi we often use it when we're when we're preaching or teaching on tithing and offering it's got a lot of great things to say about the promises that you receive as a tither and and those you receive as a giver of offerings are two separate uh areas but but he dealt with more than just tithing and offering he also dealt with the coming messiah jesus he actually talked about it most of the tithing and offering stuff happens in in malachi 3 this was in malachi 4. malachi 4 and 2 he made this statement he's talking about the messiah that's coming here's what he says but unto you that fear my name shall the son of righteousness sell the messiah the son of righteousness arise with healing in his wings and he shall go forth and grow up as calves and of the staff the word that the word of of wings uh the son of righteousness will arise with healing in his wings the word wings is translated in the in the king james version wings but it's the same hebrew word called naf meaning the border the boundary of the garment it's the same exact word so what malachi was saying is there's going to be a messiah that will be born there's going to be a messiah that will come to his people and when he arrives he's going to be the son of righteousness he's going to be perfect he's going to be pure he have he even references elijah or john the baptist that will come and prepare the way for jesus and and he says and when he comes he is going to have healing in the borders the boundaries of his garment and so when this woman reaches out and grabs the hem of his garment what she was doing was declaring i believe this is him i believe that this is the messiah everybody else doubts him but i believe i believe it's him and if this is the messiah he has got to be the one that malachi was talking about and malachi said that he had healing in the borders of his garment and so if he's got healing there i'm going to reach out and get a hold of it all right now that's inspiring that's exciting because she believed that she had a miracle in the the boundary of her her uh of his of his garment and she touched it she receives healing she's been homeless destitute she's nameless and yet jesus takes time for this woman who has spent all of her living she's wasted everything and now she's at a point of her life she has nothing left to give except faith that that's the messiah and she receives her healing now she of course inspires us all and we can say you know we i've heard a lot of sermons about reaching out and touch the hem of his garment and man this woman she she's done a lot of of of inspiring throughout the ages but it wasn't just her record in scripture that inspired but in in matthew chapter 14 and this is speaking to somebody here today who you feel as though you've waited too long in life to be influential you you you feel like my chance my opportunity to do a work of god to inspire to help anybody else is over i've i've missed my opportunity i've missed my chance malachi i'm sorry matthew chapter 14 verse 34 when they speaking of jesus and his disciples were gone over they came to the land of jenesseret and when the men of that place had knowledge of him they sent out into all the country round about and brought unto him all that were diseased and they besought him that they may might only touch the uh oh him of his garment and as many as were touched as touched were made perfectly whole where did they get that they got that from a woman who had spent most of her life with endeavors that weren't fruitful things that didn't work and finally she woke up one day and realized you know what i just believe jesus can heal me she gets her miracle thinking it's all about her no there were people that were waiting on her to make a move she god elevated her to a place of influence don't be surprised when god takes somebody who feels like they've wasted their life i'll make it to heaven but i'm the only one no no god's got a bigger plan than that there were thousands that were healed because this woman got tired of waiting she got tired of hoping she got tired of trying everything else and she said you know what i just believe he can do it and god used her at that latter place of life use her as an example turn to somebody next to tell them god wants to use you as an example he wants to use your moment their moment of faith to inspire others this is not just about you god wants to work through you to reach your family your kids your neighbors god has a plan for you stop waiting amen it's not just about you there are others that are in need and when you get your breakthrough there's going to be somebody else on the sideline saying if she can get it if she can do it if if if he can get his miracle then so can i musicians please come i'm i'm hurrying to a close amen don't listen to the enemy when he says your life is too messed up to inspire somebody else regardless of your failures your flaws your issues if you'll commit your life to god today you're going to make a difference in somebody else's life now the woman gets her miracle and we turn quickly back to jairus and let's close with this now everybody there is amazed at the power of jesus normally when the unclean touch the clean the clean becomes dirty but the righteousness of of jesus is so powerful that when something dirty touches the clean the righteous the perfect the pure that righteousness cleanses the dirty amen see sometimes we think well i'm just too dirty to come to the lord it doesn't matter how dirty you are he is so perfect and so pure it doesn't work like you think it works your dirtiness is not going to pollute the church your your your unrighteousness is not gonna it's not gonna defraud the gospel or make the church look bad it's quite the opposite he is so beautiful and bountiful and holy and righteous that all the junk in your life will just disappear and so that's it's this woman is healed and and and everybody's excited except for jarius who's anxiously he's watching the miracle and the conversation of jesus and he's happy for the woman but he's also in torment for his daughter back home and then almost immediately at the end of this miracle [Music] he looks up and he sees a familiar face working their way through the multitude the crowd and he recognizes their face they they have that look of hopelessness and sadness some of you have had to endure that before it's tragic when you know i'm about to hear some devastating news they just had that look and they say worst thing that he could ever hear a father that loves his child don't bother the master it's too late your daughter's dead jarrius is not mad at jesus he's not angry at jesus how could he be it was he wasn't promised anything jerius is not angry at jesus he's not angry at the woman who pressed her way through the crowd and delayed the lord he's not angry at the crowd that's crowding in around him he's not angry at any of them but he's angry at himself he's thinking if i only would have got over my dumb pride a little earlier if i only missed it if i would have just if i would have just gone to jesus earlier there would have been time why did i wait so long what if i would have come sooner parents i just want to tell somebody here today if you don't if you don't get your life right with god for any other reason you ought to get your life right for your kid's sake don't don't wait until their life is messed up filled with sin before you you come back i've heard people say things before well i was raised in a real strict home and i didn't want to subject my kids to that when i got in church and my response is typically but you're in church right now so it wasn't too bad for you we shouldn't cheat the next generation just because we didn't appreciate the things we suffered now i'm not justifying things that have been done in the name of religion but but we've got to be careful that we don't use the things that we despise as children to scar us to the point where we don't give our kids an opportunity to be right with the lord and be raised in this glorious truth if you don't get right for any other reason get right for the sake of those little children that are following you that are watching you [Music] and so he's angry at himself if only i would have come earlier you see jarrius and this woman both share a common trait both of them have wasted too much of their time on empty solutions their lives are both testimonies of fruitless endeavors that accomplished absolutely nothing the woman with the issue of blood she lost everything she's living on the street now she has nothing and then she tries jesus jairus he could have called out to jesus when she when she just started getting sick but he waited until she's breathing her final breath before he decides you know what this is stupid i i need to stop worried about what people think about me my career my job i need to go find jesus but too often we beat ourself up and we assume it's too late now if only i would have tried jesus first if only i wouldn't have wasted so much of my life on empty promises and vanity i want to tell you today that it's it's it's not too late can we stand with every head bowed never eye closed please no one looking around i never want to end the service without giving you an opportunity to take a step of faith james said faith without works is dead you can have a conviction you can have a feeling but feeling isn't going to change you you got to do something it's whenever we take that step of faith that god will honor it with a miracle [Music] today i want to speak to somebody feels like you wasted too much of your life too much your time you feel like it's too late i want to give you the same words that jesus gave jarius he said be not afraid only believe you got to believe that it's not too late you got to believe that in spite of yesterday's failures things can be better things in my life can be different it's not too late for the lord to use me it's not too late for the lord to work through me i've got to believe some of you have lost your faith in your future and it's time to get it back again the lord sent me to tell you i can still use you i can still bless you i can still save i know you think it's too late but it's not too late amen it's not too late would they ever hit about every eye close if you're here today and you need you need god to change something in your life and the enemy's been telling you it's too late why don't you just acknowledge that by just lifting your hand come on i hear you lord i hear you let's that's it that's good i know the enemy's been lying to you and they he's told you it's too late but it's not too late god wants to do more than just take care of you he wants to elevate you he wants to he wants to use you as an example to others to influence some someone else if your hand is lifted our ministers are here in the altar i'm asking you right now step out into the aisle and begin to make your way if everybody comes it'll just be a crowd of people that comes almost every hand was lifted here tonight or today just just take that step up hey come
