everybody welcome back to my kitchen now there's probably a lot of other things that I could demo today but I wanted to share this with you all because so many times and there are so many beginners that are afraid or have made horrible biscuits I know it took me two years I serve some golf balls I mean they were awful but this is a recipe that is going to give you no fail perfect biscuits every time now in in the bowl I've got I've already put two and a half cups of self-rising flour and this is white lily flow'r which is a soft winter wheat it gives you a fluffier biscuit or a lighter biscuit I should say and I'm in the south so white lily is plentiful but while I was getting this flour I noticed there's another brand out there called southern biscuit which is also a soft winter wheat flour just ask your grocer if you're in the north or located where white lily or isn't you don't have it it's not plentiful ask your grocer if he has a self rising flour that is soft winter wheat and if he has a flower that is just plain all-purpose flour that soft winter wheat get that and add the appropriate amounts of salt and baking powder or soda it'll it'll tell you right on the bag but this is two and a half cups the next thing that's going in and I'm going to grate it right into the right into this mixture is one stick of frozen butter and I mean this is frozen solid you're just going to take your box grater just take your box grater and on the larger side here start grating your butter into it great every bit of it the whole stick and this might take me a minute so I'll be back cut it all grate it up in there and now you're just going to take your hands and distribute it through this self-rising flour and if you can't find white lily or excuse me any other type of soft winter wheat just use regular self-rising flour you know it might not be as light of a biscuit but it's going to be a good biscuit now the next thing you're going to do is put this in the freezer for 10 minutes and then we'll be back alright we've been chilling in the freezer for 10 minutes I'm going to make a well in the middle of this and I'm going to pour in one cup of cold butter melting go ahead if I haven't told you pre-heat your oven to 475 when you start this because it takes a long time to heat to 475 and also go ahead and put some parchment paper on your baking spoons now we're going to start stirring this and you're not going to stir it more than fifteen or twenty times three four six seven eight alright now this dough is gonna be sticky I'm gonna put mine on this some baseball I'm gonna sprinkle some more flour on it and you're going to put pour this out on here and it's going to be sticky so you're going to pour it out and you may have some dry crumbs in the bowl but don't worry about it I'm gonna sprinkle a little bit of flour on top of this and I'm gonna roll it the best I can I wish I had a here we go the best I can into a rectangle this rolling pin I'm gonna take the cover off of it lightly flour your rolling pin whoops we're gonna roll it I don't have a anything under it to keep it from sliding but we're going to roll it into a rectangle and you're going to take the short ends which will be this end well you know which ends are short and fold it on top of itself I may need a little more flour down there you don't have to turn it but you're gonna do it again roll it take the short ends fold it on top this is three this is for and this is five right here and that's how many times you do it you do it five times then you're going to roll the dough out to about a half an inch thickness a little bit of dough I want that I don't have an inch now I'm making big biscuits and I'm only going to bake four of them because I'm going to freeze the rest and put them in a ziplock bag and right on the outside of the bag 475 degrees for 15 minutes that's the only you have to do so I've got my own my dough rolled out here I've got my biscuit cutter kind of dip it in the flour and then start cutting your biscuits I don't know how many of these will make go straight down I'm trying to get as many biscuits as I can so they may not be exactly round but they'll be close enough all right I got eight out of that and when you put them on your baking sheet and like I said I'm only going to put four on here make sure they touch so that they will bake straight up all right I'm going to go ahead now and put these in the oven 475 degrees for about 15 minutes keep your eye on them then well write I just took these out of the oven and they were like 30 seconds short of 15 minutes and I think that got just a wee bit too done I'm gonna go ahead and put some melted butter on the top of each one of these and we're gonna break one open you can see how all that folding made layers in these biscuits and probably if I had baked more they would have risen better because they didn't have anything to rise against let's get this one right here oh let me move this out of the way and as hot as this is I'm gonna try my best to cut it open and give you a good look at it so I'm gonna turn it on the side look at the layers and look at that biscuit tender and soft and it looks wonderful so I hope you'll give this recipe a try honest oh my goodness it's so tender outside is crispy let's see what the bottom looks like bottoms okay if I had taken them out I think maybe 14 or ten minutes they wouldn't have been so Brown you may not you may not mind them being that Brown I like mine a little lighter than that but in any case don't be afraid to make biscuits this is a perfect recipe everything is planned out for you and I got this recipe from Southern Living and I thought about all of you who are afraid to make biscuits and I I wanted to share it with you so that you could have no fear biscuits perfect biscuits no fail every time thank you for coming in today and spending part of your day with me trying to get a better view of that please give
