[Music] well hey there everybody welcome back to my sewing room and today is july 23rd 2021 and look who i have here i have emily here yay okay so she just got here and we're gonna be doing a q a a little bit later in the video but right now what we're going to do is kick off all about my kaleidoscope book and the kaleidoscope kaleidoscope sew along that we're going to be doing okay yeah so it's going to be super awesome because what we're going to do is we're going to have a quilt along and a cross stitch along so or stitch along however you want to call it so it's going to be throughout the month of august and it is all on the fat quarter shop jolly jabber with the blog um dates on there and i'm going to show you what we're going to make so what lori does always is does these little extra projects so she designed this bedrunner and the bed runner uses two of the blocks from the book so the book has three size blocks eight inch 12 inch and 16 inch and the bed runner is made with eight and twelve no no eighteen eight and sixteen so all you have to do is buy the book we do have a quilt kit at fat quarter shop i did a cute little um i didn't turn that around so you can see oh yeah i did a cute little label on the back and i used some of the 108 inch wide and this is for my prim collection and it matches perfectly so we're going to have this quilt along throughout august and on laurie's channel this channel right here next friday she's going to demo how to make the 16 inch block and then on august 16th on the fat quarter shop channel so if you haven't subscribed there make sure to subscribe we're i'm going to demo the small block but the difference is she's gonna piece it the traditional way and i'm gonna show you how to piece it using triangles on a roll and flying geese paper and then if you watch you can watch hers come back to me the next week watch mine and then decide which method which method you like best for for your quilt and so obviously that's kimberly's table runner so she did it with b cross stitch which is what the whole kaleidoscope book is sewn with is my b cross stitch collection but this is my stitch collection that just came in and into the warehouse so it's shipping to quilt shops everywhere so i'm excited about that but that's what i'm going to be making my bed runner out of is stitch and i'll be demoing the 16 inch block but they're all sewn the same way except for the differences paper piecing and traditional piecing and we added that to the book so it would make it super easy for you to follow whichever column you want to do because i think that's the great thing about lori and i is we're very similar but we piece very differently and so providing that to you is a great opportunity to let you grow as a quilter and learn and decide you know which style works best for you you could do half the quilt her way and half the quilt my way and it'd be like a laurie and kimberly quilt or you could do like the bedrunner one way and do a quilt the other way so like we're the same but not the same yep and so we like to bring that to you when we're collaborating on projects together so let's show them what's in the book okay so in the book there are three quilts the first quilt is a crib and these blocks are a whole book eight inches right yeah so this is the crib quilt all made of eight inch blocks so in each quilt there's the same amount of blocks it's the same layout but because the blocks are smaller it makes a smaller quilt and then the backing and we do list in the book which backing lori chose for each one because each of the quilts she put a different backing and we also list in the book what background sku she used because each of the three use different background skews so you you will always be able to order those the b backgrounds is what she used for her background well they're in the their b backgrounds b cross stitch at the same time so they're all be cross stitched but they're different colors in each one and then different binding and different backings and i did want to let you know that b cross is just considered a basic so it is going to stay around a long time riley blake is going to keep it in as a basic okay sorry the camera shut off for a second anyway what i was going to say was the b cross stitch is one of my b basics so it will always be evergreen meaning it will always be in stock at riley blake so i do two basics collection every year and this is one of them from last year so that's kind of fun that's why i did it with all kinds of colors and everything that might you know reach everybody and i added purple in here you guys have been asking a lot for purple so i put two i introduced two purples in this um collection one is called taffy and one's called plum this one right here is one of them this is plum and this quilt is the lap version so we'll just show you half that's happy [Laughter] so it's hot it's um it goes further down but it's the same exact layout just different sizes so you'll have different size blocks and different size sashings and you can see she used her 108 inch wide backing yeah this is also from prim it's just a different different color this is a great size too so we're calling these you know we call them like a baby quill the lat quilt but obviously you don't have to use them for just those things you can decide what you want to use it with and then this is a queen size and so a lot of people have been asking me to do queen size quilts so that's why i did this one and oh my gosh i love the pantone that gina used in this one you can really kind of see it on the dark colors gina tell quilted all of these and so if any of these if you like the pantograph all you have to do is say oh i said pantomime but i meant panda graph yeah just tell her which quilt and she she knows which one she did and there's the prim 108 inch wide and so i love that quilt that's going on my bed it's so pretty and so um then she added pillows also oh yeah okay so are you gonna hold up the small ones first okay so we did a version of two smalls and what i did was i did them opposite meaning now the background is the color and the design within the kaleidoscope block is becomes the background so you can see the opposite of what it does and you could do a little bit you could do a whole quilt like that yeah exactly so those are two small ones these are the medium ones and this was this is plum the color that i was talking about that i have introduced and then we've got a couple of i got a little thread on that one imagine that thread in the sewing room and too large so it's kind of fun to see the pillows that way so we really hope that um you join the quilt along so um on the quilt along we have this free printout and it's going to be available on the jolly jabber blog and on lori's blog when we start all the dates are on our blog now you do need the book though for the block instructions and um we're gonna do some giveaways we're gonna do three giveaways so here this is all the stuff the whole kit for the lap the lap so it's got a lot of fat eights background we're always super generous with our kids and we did also put the foundation paper in in case you want to use it and and the book will come with it too yeah the book and it has enough fabric if you use the foundation paper since that uses a tiny bit more so it gives you the option to do whichever way you like and so that's one giveaway for one person and then we're going to do this one which is the bedrunner kit the one that kimberly made that we already showed you so all of these are be cross stitched so that will come with the book and then this is the pillow kit for the medium the medium one right there the green one that we showed you it's actually alpine so and that will come with the book as well so for this giveaway just leave us a comment and you need to be following my channel and you need to like this video and you need to be following fat quarter shop's channel as well and then just just talk about kaleidoscope just leave us a comment yeah let us know what your favorite quilt is from it and i did want to let you know throughout the book we have listed skus on every single thing so any of the things that you saw here if you want to know the exact color it's in the book we try to make i publish the books under it so emma and we try to do a really good job so that you never have to ask any questions and that every question that you can think of we try to cover it in here we really do and but if you ever do have questions their staff is awesome yeah i mean like you can ask any question and they always yeah you know get back and we added some cross stitch to this book also so if you follow uh fat quarter shot flosstube or lori's channel okay how high it counts that's perfect i want you to be able to see the whole cross stitch so that's in the cool tones and that's the warm tones so i always like to give you options because everyone doesn't decorate in the same colors you know everyone wants to put it in a different room or they may be stitching something for a family member as a gift so i always want to give you options and what's great about this cross stitch is it just takes three colors i took the block so you can see i took the kaleidoscope block right here i don't know can you see those side by sides yes and see how i just made it into a cross stitch and i love it because it looks kind of country it looks kind of modern it looks it's like whatever you know i think it's everybody's style and um or at least i hope so i think it is and so that will be our stitch along and with our stitch along the same with the cool ones we will have dates for the stitch along also and they mirror what we're doing um we've divided it up into i think nine different weeks and with this on the back i want to show you her library card so if you look on the back we have put the library cards and it tells exactly we put all the information on it like who stitched the sample what thread we used all of that and we also have we also have stuck in there we also have a thread pack and a thread floss keeper and this is going to be given away with the book also so this floss keeper is like my last one that i did for stitchy stars meaning it's made out of the same material you can write on it and that's how we developed it because i wanted you to be able to write on it you can put a sticker on it too but i like to write on the back of mine with just a pencil and then you can just erase it and put your flosses away and use it for something else if you want so and all the colors in this are the different color options she provides in the book and so i'm going to be picking three of the colors i've also shown them did you show this page already where the options are okay so i'm gonna be um picking from this and so is she but we're gonna do different ones so i besides the two cross stitches that we already showed you there's six different color ways that i've chosen out of this pack and she just listed dmc since that's super easy to get at any craft store yeah and of course you don't even have to go with any of these options because you know how i always say you're the boss you're on quilt you're the boss you're on cross stitch and you can do whatever you want you can do them all in the same colors making an ombre you can do three completely different colors whatever you want to do and we're also going to do a giveaway of this floss pack this and the book so that's four giveaways that we're doing same thing just you know same rules apply and this is what i've chosen for mine i don't think kimberly you've chosen yours yet well i have and i've shown it but i might change my mind because i like what you picked so i don't know we could do the same thing again i always changed my lineup okay so out of this floss pack i chose 9 30. here you hold this up and three eight four nine and five sixty two and i think the order that i would like to do them in is i wanna do the denim in the center because see that cool one pick that up again so it's sort of almost the same they are different than the cool colorway but it's sort of the same thing but i'm going to do my denim in the center and then i'm going to do the green in the middle and the aqua on the outside for mine and then um this cloth is winter white and it's 36 count and it's by sarah from fabrics and i had this piece left over from another stitch that i did so i always leave the tag on so i know what it is and i think that's going to be perfect because i really want them to pop and show up and so when you stitch on the 36 count are you going to stitch over one i stitch over two over two and that's why a lot of reason why i like to stitch on 36 count when i want a really small project i don't know i should do the math and tell you well i'll tell you like on my next flosstube what the finish size will be but it's going to be significantly smaller because we stitched on 25 count over 2 but that means it ends up being 12.5 x's to the inch this one's going to be because it's 36 count over to 18 x's to the inch so it's going to be a lot smaller and i might i don't know if i'm going to frame it it'll be square and it would be cute in a hoop too because you can make it round so i may put it in a hoop i may make it into a small cute little you know pillow to tuck into my little baskets or whatever i don't know how i'm gonna finish it yet but um i just love these cool tones and that's what lori and i are always trying to do is you know we show you in the book or whatever product it is and then we try to show it even different after the fact to give you lots of options to appeal to all different type of quilters you're the boss of your own quilt yes you're the boss you're on cross stitch and you can get so many different looks out of all of the things um and that's what i love i love to see everybody you know who participates and they're um posting it and i just love to see all of the fabrics you're using the cloths and i i love to see all the color changes just whatever you know you want to do but speaking of cross stitch since i haven't been able to do my flosstube for a while because i've really been busy gardening vacationing and working above all but i will be but i wanted to show you this before i take it to the framers so this is my prem stitch series and we're finished with it now we just finished last month right yep and so there you can buy each of them individually or as a pack and i'm going to take mine to the framers i'm going to take it over to jamie over to the craft center and i'm going to pick out a really awesome frame because i love it this big this is on my prim 25 count lugana stitched over two and oh i forgot so i always use two threads so two threads over two threads here does that make sense so two flosses two over two when i use 36 count i like to use that because i like to use one thread and it's not bumpy stitching or anything like that you don't have to worry about railroading or anything like that but so anywho i digress so i'm taking this over to jamie to the craft center and i i don't know if i want to pick an off-white frame or something barn wood or maybe a frame that kind of matches right here this pewter color this light one might be really pretty so we'll just have to see what i find but i love how big it is i wanted to stitch it on this cloth because i wanted it larger i like how kind of vintage it looks and i want to hang it on a big wall in my family room so that's what i'm going to do with that so all right so we've talked about all of that but i do want to talk about and announce the winner cassidy do you have the ladies name of the giveaway i don't okay well we'll do that in the next segment because we have to clear all this stuff off because now next we're going to talk about my red sampler blocks and i'm going to show all of mine ready to go and i have the borders on kimberly doesn't have her borders on yet because that's what you're going to be doing here right so she's going to hold up her block i'm going to hold up my block and we're going to talk about that and then we'll find the name that cassidy picked for the winner of last week's giveaway and announced that so we'll be right back okay we're back and so now i have the name of the winner cassidy do you have the name anyway yes it's cynthia reeves cynthia reeves okay i'll just leave a comment on your comment and that was the winner for if you didn't see my video last week it was on my remix block number five and i'm giving away this giving away my vintage housewife so simple shapes my pins these are my applique pins that i use for applique the clover point point turner sue glue my i know i love that glue i call it sue glue my happy place badge and a five inch stacker a farm girl vintage and a 10 inch stacker of granny chic so cynthia you're the winner thanks for entering and that's fun i love doing giveaways and to celebrate my one year anniversary i'm gonna be doing giveaways you know i think for the rest of the summer so all right so i'll leave a comment on your comment and we'll go from there okay red sampler so i think this is like the third time i've talked about it but we are nearing the end so every monday i've been posting um blocks that i've been doing for my books here are you so i don't have chocolate all the time you talk about my books okay so she took her farm girl vintage to farm girl vintage vintage christmas and spelling bee spelling bee's actually for the back back but yeah that's the farms vintage farm girl vintage two and vintage christmas all have blocks both in the six inch and twelve inch size because she's the one who came up with that idea and saw this great granny square and so does great green square and so these are all blocks from those books and then she's added her name from the back on spelling bee and so talk about what you're doing on the back okay so before we show you all the blocks we thought it would be fun to show my block and then kimberly's block at the same time so you could see the difference in our blocks and stuff like that but in my last video when i talked about my red sampler i showed my letters from spelling bee yeah you can be like vanna white and hold up my well that's farmville i was going to talk about something in there oh sorry all right and so i use my spelling bee book in the 12 inch again i have six inch and 12 inch block sizes for each of these letters and numbers but i used the uppercase l in 12 inch lower case in 12 inch uppercase lowercase these are all 12 inch then my 12 inch sewing machine and then my 12 inch numbers and then i did two six inch blocks from the book this is one six inch block and this is the other six inch block and i did several projects within that book with these stacked on top of each other because they're now they're six inches wide but they're also 12 inches tall so that goes with that so what i did was i cut one and a half inch strips and sewed them together between each letter of the word and then between the words i cut three and a half by twelve and a half inch sashing so there's three and a half by twelve and a half between here and between there and then i just um did some fabric on the ends now i'll cut a three and a half inch strip of my backing fabric and sew these two together like from the center out and then however wide my backing needs to be for that quilt is what i'll add to the side of that and then i'll just take my background fabric and put it at the top and put at the bottom however long of yardage i need for the backing for that quilt and she's using the setting from farm girl vintage two for the fact that's what you're talking about yeah so she's using that for the front but of course you could set this and lots of different um settings that she has in her books and so so kimberly just brought her block without the borders and i have my borders on so for this book meaning we have a border on every block and so that's what you're going to be selling while you're here and so we thought that we would show you all of the blocks that we did from every week so i'm going to put my book here let's see how am i going to do this so i can read it okay so week one for the 12 inch block we did my sunny sunflower block and that's from my first farm girl vintage book okay and i'm gonna i used inspiration from her on the colors and i'll probably copy what she does on her borders which is why i'm doing it here so that i don't have to think very much yeah we both sew from my fabric mainly because that's what i have in my stash but basically i just pulled my red stash but i do have other people's fabric in my stash so once in a while i just if it looked good in the block i threw it in but most of it is my fabrics okay so then we did two six inch blocks and we did a quilting day so that's called quilting day and that's from farm girl vintage two and then the other six inch block was called taffy and that's from my vintage christmas every channels yep that's perfect long enough correctly okay i'm just going to toss these over there okay so that was week one so week two for the 12 inch block we did um oh wait i might turn around how come i don't have you do okay sorry okay thanks that's what kimberly does she keeps me straight and so mine looks smaller because i haven't added the sashing i call it sashing she calls it borders but i just haven't added that extra part to the sides yet okay so this is the 12 inch block and it's called summer star and that's from farm girl vintage my first farm girl vintage book okay this is reindeer hoops and this is a six inch block this is from my vintage christmas book so um in this setting that we're doing there are thirty six inch blocks and 20 12 inch blocks so that's 50 blocks that we're putting in this quilt besides the ones for the label okay so this is lazy daisy and this is from farm girl vintage two i wanna i i'm gonna have to watch this video so i can see our livestream yeah i normally don't like to watch my own videos okay so for week three we did cozy star for the 12 inch so if i had the fabric i tried to make it exactly the same well that's what's kind of fun just to see everybody's variation you know okay so then this is new baby quilt and this is from farm grill vintage two and then this is let's see this is wait what did we do oh starry nights i was gonna say um evening stars but i knew that wasn't right starry nights and that's from farm girl vintage too as well right so week four we're already on the week four and all of this information is on her blog and you can see on this one oh my gosh i drew some friction lines and forgot to to to get the heat off i need to do that but all you have to do is put the iron on i know i just i don't ever use those but you use them all the time yeah i've never seen any marks before okay all right i'm just embarrassed why i don't know all you have to do is put an iron on it don't be embarrassed don't hide behind my design boards okay so this is vintage pinwheel for vintage christmas and the next one is just the churn dash for my original farm girl vintage book okay all right so week five our 12 inch block that we did is the evening star that's the one i was talking about this is from farmville vintage two evening star are they the same almost no i kind of went oh you did the dark see i love that so yeah okay hold yours up so see my my darker is more prominent on the outside her darker is more prominent on the points of the stars and i love them both that's a good good lesson in fabric value placement how it changes the look of the block and yet they're still good and it's good that i didn't put the borders on mine or we would have got all these mixed up i know i heard and put my borders on so they would be done so kimberly could use my sewing machine space okay so did we show the six inch ones all right this is my granny star block i did a tutorial here this was a free block yeah free block did a tutorial on my youtube channel here and so i did that one and the the last one for that one is peas and carrots right okay so that's from my original farm girl vintage book so i have a peas and carrots block in my farm girl vintage two block that's called peas and carrots too and it's actual peas with carrots this is just peas and carrots my dad used to say that all the time like about me and my sisters or like my two brothers like you go together like peas and carrots so you know i had to do a corn and tomatoes and a piece and carrots block all right so okay time to turn the page week six city sidewalks let's do the six inch first that's what i have written down first so this one i didn't have this this gingham plaid that she had so i just used hers well yeah you use the um this is like a little houndstooth that i had in my stash and by then you had some of my pre-yardage of stitch so this is my stitch okay so that's city sidewalks six inch the other one is the cross stitch block and this is from farm girl vintage two and this one for some reason i don't have that red fabric but i need to figure out what it is order that's prim i sent you some oh okay well that was after yeah maybe it was well you had already sewn but i'd already sewn it okay because i didn't send you more fabric until the very almost the very end okay so tool bench on oh yeah we forgot the 12 inch okay this is my better churn block and that's from my first farmville vintage book and then the next one you know what we might want to just put these like on two on that week we did three six inch blocks that look like this okay and what i did was i took the 12 inch cutting and only did a quarter of it and so it ends up being a six inch block and if that's confusing it's all explained in my blog it really isn't as confusing as it sounds but i wanted some really really super simple blocks um throughout the quilt as well as some with more pieces or a little bit more complicated because i think that's what makes the quilt beautiful is just all of the you know diversified blocks okay so then we have um the 12 inch is oh this is a winter star how come i don't have my letter store here did i put it out of order i don't know what happened let me look i'm the one who did this so if it's out of order it's me are there two right there yeah but aren't those camber bees this is yours oh that's why we had an order i took her you stole my design this is my star okay 12 inch winter star she's hiding behind my board behind the board she's got the board up like this behind it she's going like this shaking her head okay winter star and that's from my original farm girl book and then we did this six inch block and we took for my vintage christmas book we took the 12 inch mitten and did the heart that's in the mitten which ends up being a six inch book and it's really easy to follow because on the diagrams we put the letters so it's easy for you to tell what you need to cut yeah it just says this block ends up being six inches okay so this is the corner tomatoes that i was talking about my first original corning tomatoes and then i have another corner tomatoes too and farm grow vintage which is actual corn and actual tomatoes i mean not actual bit pictures right that would not be good okay so i'm losing my place here where i'm glisten on week nine all right i didn't get to look around okay listen and then the six inch we did the maple leaf from farm girl vintage two yet almost copied it yep and then kitchen window from farm girl vintage this one was fun because it was so easy it was like oh yeah and see how it even add makes it look different after i'm out of the outside which is like another dimension yeah all right so now we're doing glimmer and this is from vintage let me put that and mine looks so different because i don't have that border on the outside which is why i don't mine look different so that is glimmer from vintage christmas and this is pinwheels from my first farm girl vintage book and this is from great granny squared and this is the mama block and i love to make great granny squared blocks because you trim them down i know they're fun and so they're perfect every time you don't have to worry about somehow um i there's no marks on this one so i somehow you must have pressed that one i must have pressed that one you shouldn't have said anything about the marks because they can't see the marks that's fine okay so um let's see we did the 12 inch we did the mama block oh we did the pinwheel so it's time oh but that's a different pinwheel okay just a minute well that's from next time okay did we already show the pinwheels yes we did did you show yours yeah probably yeah okay i'll show you in a second how we got confused okay so the 12 inch block we should have done a video of us putting the blocks together and trying to find it's trying to get them in order okay so this is chicken foot from page 18 of my original farm girl vintage book and then we did this is where i got confused okay see this is one pinwheel you confuse me it's your favorite we use the 12 inch cutting and did a quarter of that which is a six inch pinwheel okay so that's what that is and then we did the farm fresh flower and that's from the original farber vintage book too as well not two you can't say original farm girl vintage book two because yeah it doesn't work that way it's even more confusing all right so next is cool threads and that's for my first farm girl vintage book and this is about the time that she sent me some fabric because i ran out and said i remember yeah because she knew we had to make eight 12 inch blocks in a row now and i was like oh i'm out of fabric and then so we did four 12 inch blocks this week so this is the second one which is mama's applique and that's from farm girl vintage two book then we did um stained glass windows from vintage christmas and this one's fun because you can fit in um nine different or actually ten fabrics but it's fun to kind of do and with my quick method i did it if you paper pieced yours you only got one but if i did it my quick method that's in the book i got two blocks and so i had an extra so i just gave it to one of my friends that's doing the quilt she happened to be in town that week and so we just handed it over to her all right so then uh week 13 we did the same thing oh wait this is the last one of week 12. this is the wool star block from vintage christmas so that's the fourth one from week 12 and then the first one from week 13 12-inch block is the egg basket which is for my first farm girl vintage book i can't remember what your egg basket looks like it's almost identical huh we use the flea market fabric for the main basket and i didn't have that top fabric that's from stitch i mean from flame not from stitch from a flame bit yeah so no i light it again it's from trim okay i can't keep it all straight this is this is going to be our whole week right all right so then we did the tumbleweed from the first farm girl vintage book and then this is holly and ivy from vintage christmas so you can see a lot of them i use the same fabrics except you know a couple i changed because i just did well and it doesn't even matter the fabric is as much as it matters the value see like i told her to use like a lighter value here and then something darker that contrasts and that's what you know brings out the design of the block so you don't lose your pieces now sometimes this is a perfect one to do sometimes i like to do something with not quite as much contrast and that makes a nice block too so these two prints that both of us use have contrast from each other but not a great amount but i like the look of that as well so if you're a new quilter one thing you can do is when you're looking at a book or looking at something that you really love just look at that contrast okay so we have two more 12 inch blocks left this is mistletoe from vintage christmas i love that block that's got a lot of scenes in it because i how it's constructed but i really love how that block turns out and this is small town and this is from farm girl vintage two and so this is what i was talking about with those six inch blocks like so because this is a 12 inch block here's the cutting but if you did this one block that's a six inch block so that's what we did for some of our six inch books and you could make all four houses different or all the same yeah i didn't feel like you i really need to do that as long as they were all yeah i just did the same thing they were all scrappy there's enough you know difference in that okay so now we can just show the rest of the six inch blocks and this is snowflake or it could be a firework it's super easy right yeah that one's super easy i think i use foundation paper yeah i think i use foundation paper did you on that one okay and then this one is my christmas well i better read these i think i have these all memorized but i better read them just to make sure yeah this is christmas star and these are this week's blogs that are on my blog so this is christmas star this is from vintage christmas and then this is spring blossom from farm girl vintage two this is sunday morning i love this one i named this one sunday morning because a little bow ties in there getting all dressed up for church and that's from um my first fargo vintage book and so this is what you'll be seeing on monday so it's a sneak peek this is sneaky peeking don't have it the same way and this is one quarter block of the 12 inch cutting of scrap quilt and so we both yeah whichever way you turn it oh sorry i thought i had the right it doesn't matter but there's i use we we both use six different fabrics nine yeah nine it's afternoon i'd usually do this in the morning maybe if we put them together there's 18 different fabrics i don't know nobody got time to figure it out no no okay and then this one is the shine block and this is from vintage christmas and then this one is country crossroads this is the very last block besides the blocks in your label country crossroads you'll see how it looks different you can see this one look kimberly because you know how it looks without the borders on you can when you once you put the borders on you can see how the block really really is supposed to look but i love that i love this block it's really simple i've made this into a pillow during the farm grill vintage so long on farm girl fridays did a really scrappy pillow that's still one of my very favorite pillows you've probably seen it like in the background in my sewing room i keep it and so i had an extra block and we weren't sure if i did but i still have this extra block so we don't know i don't remember what i did and she doesn't remember what i did but i have an extra block well it's still cute i thought you had two extra blocks i do there's another one that was an extra this was like yeah i don't know but that's what happens when you start sewing and okay so the last post is on monday of the vlog so we just showed you so if you want to get ahead you could do those and then i'm just gonna you know show a picture of this block right here that i did i can't really let's step beside the second so yeah so we can do that i'll draw a picture of that talk about that a little bit more probably link to this video so that you can you know go back and forth and then the next time i post i'm going to send this quilt to julie after i get it all sewn together to get it quilted for me and next time i post about it after monday i'll show you the finished quilt and i'll show you what i do for the backing um because i'm kind of waffling back and forth on what i'm going to do but when it's done i'll i'll show you she's like i thought i figured out my backing and then i've changed it three times that's what i do a lot okay so that's the red sampler so now so cassidy it has some has selected a few questions to ask us from you guys i don't know you put it on social media and say we were coming selected some and so if you haven't seen the last video that we did on my channel in november was which was the last time you visited here we did a q a there where we covered a lot of questions that we'd already answered that we'd already answered so cash just went through and chose some so so go ahead and ask us tell us who you're asking or whatever yeah okay so first question is how did lori get started in the quilting industry does she have any special training or schooling no i don't have any special training or schooling unless you call growing up in a quilting family and learning from the time i was born you know being under the quilt frames and again i know i've said it a million times but my mom always said i was practically born with a needle in my hand so that's my training and she's just very artistic so a lot of her stuff is all hand-drawn i haven't taken any art classes in school at all so okay so the next one is for both of you it says what creatively inspires you the most from each other oh my gosh i love that when lori does her book she doesn't just put out a book and then move to the next book and then put on a book and move to the next book she's always re re re up all the books so that if you have bought something five years ago you can still be using it five years from now and i love that because she's not just putting stuff on the on the market she's actually using it and so it's a great way to show you how you can use other other things that's what i like to do because again i'm always bringing my grandparents and everything in it you know everything but they're a huge influence on me but they were always saying you know use it up wear it out make it do or do without and that's what i feel like i want you to be able to do with my quilt books is just constantly use them and not for them to be a one-hit wonder so and what inspires me about kimberly is like everything just kimberly she um i know i've said this before but like i love that she does my books i'm so honored that she does my books because she knows my vision and if she doesn't know my vision i tell her my vision and she's like okay i get it yeah we can find a way to do that because i'm like cameron i really want to do it this way and this is why you know because i'm always thinking of the future not just just that book for that time and um you're you're my person that reigns me in because i i know i've said it before but i would have like a 500 page book if i could yeah and carol was like we cannot do that i'm like i called the printer and steve said you can have 204 pages unless you want to make the pages thinner yeah that's what i'm always saying i'm not i'm not a designer that's always trying to think of things to put in the book i'm the designer who's trying to think of things to take out of the book and she's the one who helps me and i need that help because i want to put everything in it's like what what do you take out because i love everything or i wouldn't put it in right and so kimberly is able to stand back and look at it and say well i think this is what's best for this time because of this and let's save this for later and we do i just want to give a big thank you to all of my it's so emma team because i don't do it without them i don't know how to do anything in computer software so sarah does all of her books jocelyn does all of her merchandising nova crystal angel cheryl they all prove there's so many people that that do this i don't do this alone but also i don't either we have a secret coming but i can't tell you what it is but we have something awesome over there that you all are going to see we have lots of secrets i'm not going to let it out i'm just saying what are you talking about oh it's a big one and don't turn the phone around and cassidy got to see it and cassidy gave me the thumbs up while she was in the other room oh okay all right so cassidy's besides me obviously yeah okay so okay so next question is what pattern would laurie suggest for someone who wants to make a quilt for the first time oh just pick one yeah great granny squared would be a good one see how kimberly is always bringing me in because i would be like just everything just pick something you like and start it you know but okay so all my vlogs i think are easy that oh yeah because you're trimming okay you tell them well so i i didn't mean to answer that for lori but i think the great granny squared is easy because all you're doing is cutting two and a half inch squares so if you're a beginner and you don't have to cut you can buy many charm packs for all your fabrics on the inside and you put a ruler on top and then you square it up with the ruler so it doesn't have to come out exact so that's why i think that right i think that's a good thing and what i was trying to say is when i meant i think all my blocks are easy meaning okay so i have some blocks that take eight pieces of fabric and i have some blocks that take 18 pieces of fabric or so on but what i'm trying to say is you just do those each section at a time anyway so the 18 inch piece one is just going to take you longer that doesn't mean it's harder it just is going to take you longer and the way she pieces and the way her books are written are easy corner squares so you don't have to get like i'm a big proponent of triangle paper and paper piecing she doesn't do any of that so it's great it just teases you teaches you how to just do it very beginner anybody can do an easy corner square you're not having to work with bias or anything right complicated i'm just a big believer in math like if you cut it correctly and you sew it correctly and more importantly if you press it correctly then you're going to get yeah you know a block that you that's the size that you want to go in your quilt okay okay so this next one is for both of you again it's if you could only do one type of sewing or crafting what would it be so like if you could only do quilting cross stitching what's your favorite oh yeah i'm not answering that that's not okay i'm gonna answer that that's like asking who your favorite i'm gonna answer it and the answer is everything one word everything everything yeah you can't answer no no limits i i want to do it all i still want to do even more than i that i have done i love creating she loves it she's going to keep going yeah all the kind of stuff that i make a lot of stuff that you guys haven't even seen that i make that i've done my whole life kimberly seen it but yeah okay someone says it is wonderful to see such a friendship between you two what are your favorite memories of each other watching true crime well that's because she makes me do it but my one of my favorite memories is because she's okay and her finger is better aka her wrist she fell down my stairs but you can read all about that in november i mean you can watch it yeah well what i think is funny when i come what i think is so funny is um when her son comes in here his eyes get big and he's always like what are you watching i'm like i made her watch it sorry sorry he's like what are you doing what am i talking about on the video when you said and yeah and i fell down the stairs and i cut my finger and i'm like you cut your finger you know you cut your finger and you're like yeah it's right here i'm like that's your wrist kimberly that's your wrist it's not a finger i'm really clumsy like really one of the things that kevin told me when we were dating i this is going to come out bad but i think he meant it as a joke but it's actually come true so he was like you know i don't know if we could get married because you're like really clumsy so none of my kids would be athletic oh and now that's not true it's not true because he's got a daughter that's like the best dancer in the whole world his boys one of them like really really likes sports and one kind of likes it and then one doesn't so i think we yeah but you never know because yeah they're just young now and you have no idea what we're going to do so whenever he says something about we're clumsy or something i'm like oh but look at emma's not clumsy at least i produced and she gets that for me yeah she gets that for me anyway so just just fyi so you know she's not allowed to go down my stairs without holding onto the railing she can't be holding tea cross stitch anything in her hand she just has to go down the stairs i'll carry the stuff down for her yeah it's my bifocals that says why okay i promise i have perfect lighting at my house [Laughter] okay since some since kimberly is coming during pioneer day do you gals have any fun things you'll be doing to enjoy the festivities okay well tomorrow in utah here is pioneer day where we celebrate uh the days of 47 1847 where all of our ancestors came here and started utah and so we're going to do what we normally do like my kids are just going to come over and barbecue and play yard games and stuff like that and kimberly is going to hang out with us and all my kids my granddaughter and my granddoggies oh we gotta show the doggie yeah okay oh go get the dog go get the dog okay we gotta show the dog well tell us a question to be amazed around yeah and then you can do it and then we can just be yapping on and on until you you know until you come back with missy what is your favorite stitching or selling snack oh you go first um i know what your drink is tea but for snack tell them the tea you like okay how you order it and all that stuff because it's the same it's so it's so okay so i have to have black iced tea from starbucks no water which means they don't pour extra water in it and water it down to you and then extra ice and that's really my snack i mean i don't really like eat a lot when i'm stitching because i don't want to get my hands dirty but i mean i love like kind bars i don't think i don't like my brush too but when when i do munch on something when i'm stitching i love popcorn but i don't have butter on it or anything so it's just like butterfree okay so this is my one of my granddoggies this is missy this is cassidy and caleb's dog hi she's a baby she's a baby where are you going you can't go you have to say hi where you going she wants to get to cassidy you want do you want your mama she's so cute isn't she cute she's a teacup poodle yes but she's really good but she's a little bit bigger than a teacup that's her full full um growth i don't know she might have a little bit of i think she's fully grown but we think she might be mixed with something else because she's a little bit easy and she's so adorable she's so good no matter what mix she is she's my little grand donkey okay last question what other must-do activities are on your list when you guys get together do you have certain restaurants a movie antiquing shopping what do you like to do okay you talk about the restaurants and i'll talk about the shopping so we have this restaurant that we love it's called doordash i'm like we do that's the door now so we just store dash food in the morning what the reason i wanted to talk about is because what we have to eat oh oh oh cafe rio so i've already eaten it before we did the video i was like can i please have cafe rio so they don't have cafe rio in texas but it's so amazing and i love it and i love the tortillas i love the way they do the beans the rice the chicken the everything so but we do we don't really go out to eat though we really stay no we like to spend our time stitching or shopping and we just have like so much fun just like watching tv we watch like some of the same youtubers um flosstubers quilters true crime there's this new true crime series out there yeah yes and there's a new um there's a new series out on discovery plus that a customer told me about called relentless and it's so good i'm gonna make her watch it cuz i wanna watch it again okay you're gonna love it though all right so we just and we just kind of do whatever like tomorrow when i show up i'm gonna have on pajama oh wait your parents your family is coming okay i'll put pants on real pants but i'm not gonna put makeup on or anything i just come and we just hang out like i don't i just there's no makeup there's no nothing and so as far as shopping goes it's all about vintage with me and antiquing and stuff so so i i'm happy to say that i've introduced kimberly to that and she loves it i do and yeah so we just do all that stuff and go to my favorite places and so we'll be doing some of that but most of the time we're going to be sewing and stitching we're going to be home bodies this time yeah i don't want to do as much just because i just got off of two vacations and kevin's idea of a vacation is to like go 24 hours a day so my idea of a vacation here is to do nothing to like sew but like i don't want to have to like put on my makeup you know run around drive we're just going to have a girls weekend yeah yeah with kathy with cassidy that was the last question oh it was yeah okay awesome all right well it was fun visiting with you guys and don't forget to enter the giveaways i think it's going to be really fun so excited about kaleidoscope and the sew along and the stitch along and the red sampler quilt along and all of that stuff of course i'll leave links or cassidy will leave links of everything that you know you need info on and i'll chat with you later yep see you later
