[Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] good afternoon gorgeous Facebook family and welcome to Tuesday the 12th of May par bar and it is absolute delight to be with you again and to see all your names and your greetings come up in the comments I have to say I think top prizes too I think as it meg chocolate I'm not sure where you're from meg I think you're nearly the first to comment most days you and Lisa Hansen who are always on time and raring to go and you can see that we have an additional guest this morning as for faces a pin up onto your screen I will enjoy this person in a moment but it's just a delight make sure that you like and that you share who would've thought any of us that seven weeks on we would still be here doing Park and that we would still and be finding fresh content I think it amazes all of us doesn't it so here we are just plumbing the depths of the glory of God to shift and to change your worlds together okay so Sam Sarah Jane are you know them well and this is my dad this man in the corner and my dad he doesn't have an Irish accent we tried for years to induct him into the Irish accent and dad you just never picked up no imitating accent so I think that's probably why it sounds very English you have remained quintessentially English so that word print essentially sir yes it's essentially English okay so you have a Scot and an Irish and actually Sarah Jane is English - I don't know whether editions yes it's um we are equal or right numbered by the English today anyway so my phone yeah what a thought my father can I tell you what you're in your 70s and looking good on it and you've been in I met in my mid-40s and you were pastoring long before I was even born so you must have been in pastoral ministry what nearly 50 years I would have thought yes somewhere around that yes right then and so you pastored in the Irish Baptist context and then you've lectured in Bible colleges you're thought of as a senior theologian and you've pastored on the mainland continent of Europe in Spain as well as obviously in the landmass of the British Isles so this is a guy who knows what he's talking about you retired and you retired to Glasgow to cover nellbox thank you Jesus you know so and dad sits our leadership team and keeps us all right so we're just delighted to upon the depth of his wisdom no we did a quick m to three minutes yesterday I think on asking you what you what questions have you got for us oh my goodness what an intelligent bunch you are incredible articulate questions so we're gonna do our best to categorize those give us a few days and they'll come back to honour your questions and we'll go through those later or maybe next week we'll hit those but today we want to talk by killing stress but Before we jump in Sam sir James you and the Greek people you see in the comments you know it's just great to see you all again and great to see you John we haven't seen John for ages I'm Joe we had a quick catch up before but then we were swiftly on life so hopefully we can catch up later but and yeah great to see all these familiar friends all over the world I'm amazed still at all of you guys tuning in at various hours of the day where you are so we just really glad to be with you at the beginning of the week again at week 7 and here looking forward to the adventure of filling stress with you today yeah it's going to be a good time with what we've we've got ready to share with you all obviously there'll be lots of of thoughts wisdom get ready without a pen and paper for Pastor John because your boy remained as always with his wisdom and but we're just so excited to have you all with us again and someone was asking is there anyone from Wales and that as a that's a prophet well actually one of our young emerging prophets caddis rammer you'll see her comment and sometimes on our live stream she's from Wales although she lives in Scotland so a she's a Welsh prophet and you'll probably see her at some point in the future she's fiery as well so yes we do have a Welsh prophet and our midst it three in today and we're going to kill your stress and pill your anxiety and help you walk in a different way from how you emotionally navigate life right now so if that is an something that you battle with that stress and anxiety and that tension kind of journey where you yo-yo in a night of it this morning you are going to get radically free and you're going to get some glorious top tips to be completely liberated from those patterns and why have we come to this today well I think that you know particularly in our nation with Boris Johnson our Prime Minister's announcements over the weekend and many of your nations as well you will start to see that even changes to the lakhtin and the navigation of that almost reshapes the nation and it almost puts us back into that place of feeling alarm because we would love to say I am brilliant a change and I think some of us think we are brilliant at change but the reality of it is change unsettles us to the very core of our being and let me say this there is it's a subconscious there's a subconscious stress you know even if we're not fully aware of it let me ask you this question and I know it's a daft it's a daft question but when you went to the supermarket last time and you did your grocery shopping when did you last buy a different brand of bread or a different make of butter we just don't do it we are so habitual in our in our lifestyles that change can be a real like okay stressor I think that what crisis does is a crisis the accelerates and exposes our default settings the crisis amplifies the weaknesses that are already in us it speeds up our trends and actually we need to work now in the disrupting of our stress and habit patterns of anxiety and so I want you to start this morning by looking with the at Matthew six and it's the do not worry passage now we can read that kind of in like a rod over our back I mustn't worry I mustn't worry I was like an unkindness against ourselves in reading that passage but I want to take your attention to two words in it that says when we don't worry we have to know that there's a much more of the Heavenly Father much more much more and those are the phrases how much more will the well Jesus clothe you high much more will he feed you high much more will he look after you than what you can generate by your own stress and anxiety and worry and I want us this morning to walk together into much more of the father and you can start to type Jesus has much more for me Jesus has much more for me he has much more than my stress he is much more than my tension he has much more than my anxiety he has much more than my irritation he has much more than my frustration he has much more than my sense of failure he has much more than the things that I carry day-to-day he has much more and this is the moment where I can shared that stuff and I could say I don't want those patterns I don't want that anxiety I don't want that stress I want the much more of Jesus I want to come and put my whole life under the waterfall the splashing refreshing rain of the much more of my God who will upgrade my worry and my stress for much more and I think that that scripture is not just you need to do better and you need to switch off your anxiety and then in in in a kind of poke at you didn't you get it wrong it's a liberating scripture of oh Jesus I want today to be drenched submerged saturated and overwhelmed by the much more and I want the exchange of my patterns to come in this moment where we kill our stress so Dan I'm gonna jump straight over to you I'll have to call you Pastor John and a lot of people call you dad because I do it so publicly so good where do you want to kick us off this morning it's afternoon where are we okay just just to add what you said by way of introduction I think that this situation we're in now he's an awful gives birth to stress anxiety and it's a nightmare for anybody who has struggled in that area and and it is a minefield to go through how can you both be full of faith in this equation that you're walking through at moment and not avoid being stressed and not avoid the difficulty of media of getting sick and I think what trying to aim at is to get how can I have a gentle confidence and assurance of the love of God and the presence of God in my life and that's where I would be thinking of one thing to go and I face the pressures of race and I feel them building up how can I have a gentle confidence it's not a ground for listing confidence I'm not going to get struck at this virus or any other problem that's associated with it but again confidence and assurance of the love and the presence of God in my life at this moment so that going back to your Matthew 6 reference I can focus on today leave the morrow alone focus on today leave tomorrow alo because there is grace for today there is not grace for tomorrow and if you try and bring the responsibilities with tomorrow into today God says you don't have grace for that don't if you brace for that that's why we go under because we leak out there tomorrow to anxieties and stressful situations and we pull them in our mind into today and we go under and of course we're going as fast as I give you grace for the day and I will give you grace for tomorrow but you're only get tomorrow's grace to honor and it's the day if you understand what I'm saying I think I love the firmness of Jesus in that the determination of our Savior to instruct us kindly but very determinedly leave tomorrow out of it yes and how much we don't think like that Sam you also have some thoughts on today and tomorrow can you navigate that for us yeah sure and my particular that Matthew 6 verse 34 don't worry about tomorrow for at all bringers own bodies two days trouble is enough for today and I think what I would like to say to you all watching as this that today is the most important day you have ever left today is the most important day you have ever lived and when you wake up tomorrow and you wake up to a new day that day will also be the most important day you have ever lived and I think we have maybe because we are charismatic prophetic people as well but we have been taught to put push significance enter if future day that significance will come that there will be a day where you know I achieve ves I do this this leaves less cause this comes and we put significance into a future day that then almost by accident without realizing we des empower ourselves to make any real difference partnering with God today and we have to shift our main set and to understanding that today is the most important day that we have ever left and we need to get that really deep inside and even just to write them in the comments today is the most important day that I have ever left and that you start to create yourself an expectation when you wake up today things are gonna change today I'm gonna know God even more today I'm gonna have a conversation with Jesus that's gonna change my life today I'm gonna go into the office and it's going to be a super productive day today is a great day for this family situation that I've been walking in for a conversation to happen where there is some healing and there is some restoration why because today is the most important day that we have ever left and when we focus on tomorrow and when we focus on the future and let me put everything in pail everything up into the future that's when anxiety starts to rise why because you des empower yourself and when you start to feel anxious it's when you feel like I can't do anything to solve this situation I can't soar - OH and so God saying look stop focusing all of your attention on the future and start seeing what I want to do today and just and and they're kind of the need to be transparent and they need to have stories to to Ankara and for myself months ago and I had a just a couple of weeks we're just as panic that's anxiety that's fear gripped me and I'm not an anxious person I'm not really a warrior and so this was really unusual and if I'm honest really where that came from was this fear of that one day eight will this actually happen well one day I have this sort of prevention well one day I get mind well one day I have a family or one day I be able to own a house for one day and so this whole idea of building that's kind of one day idea brought with it a sense of panic a sense of fear and a sense of anxiety and remember having a phone call with Emma about her and really the conversation Wayne with yes one day these things it will hopefully happen but today what are you going to do and learning to love the mundane learning to love the mundane of today is a quick when way of overcoming anxiety what I mean by that learning to come home and do really simple things like cook your own dinner making a bed cleaning the house doing the shopping and saying things like I am loving this daily task this mundane less less this kind of weird thing that I'm doing I am learning to love it I'm learning to have joy and today des empowers that anxiety that we often build about our fear of the future somebody is just saying there in the comments why is today the most important day and I think that's unpack that because tomorrow is gone you cannot live that you cannot stand in that live moment ever again there are there's very little that you can do to shape your yesterday and some of the decisions that came from it the mercy and the grace you know for that day has passed it ended when you went to bed and tomorrow if the grace for tomorrow is not yet arisen in the earth it's not yet being handed down to you from heaven so today this moment this this this day has the blessings assigned to it as the only blessings you can access and the mercy for today is really what you've got to live under and so today becomes the most important day because it's the only day that you know that you have to live in this moment and so that sense of I want to choose how I steward this day and not waste it I want to disrupt the patterns of behavior that I am used to living in that just robbed my days with stress and anxiety and I want to say God disrupt my pattern some of you may need to take that God disrupt my patterns God kill my anxiety and stress because I think that we have to say that stress is a habit oh and some of you are going hang on a minute hang on a minute is it is it is it not stress is a habit stress is a habitual response to life situations and so I want to say to you yes there's demons involved in yes I'll kill them in a minute for you but your stress and your anxiety is a pattern and a habit that you step into to choose those to navigate your life now do we live with stressful and challenging things going on yes we do do we live with difficult decisions yes we do but how we approach those is a pattern and a choice and a habit that we form and so in the prayer of disrupt my patterns an understanding stress is a habit is massive - how you live well because we're not talking about how'd you come to this place of glorious abundance where your life situation is completely different that I can't create for you but what I can do here is I can help you disrupt your pattern enough that no matter what happens no matter whether it's a sound 23 valley of the shadow of death or whether it's a bright glorious morning you have chosen a pattern of behavior and you have a live God - so disrupt you that your habitual doing falls are broken now I know we're not heard from sir Jane but dad you wanted to talk to us and just take some time over between the difference between a peaceful feeling and a peace filled person - just let's just sit in that the difference between having a peaceful transient feeling and being a peace filled person - massive things that we need to understand a peaceful feeling that being a peace filled person okay over to you you know I think this rip thanks enough I think it's really build upon what's already been been been said but I have to replace a toxic way of looking at life with a biblical way of looking at life and that means I have to say goodbye Zeenat of paths and welcome today in its newness and I think this big difference between a peaceful feeling and being a peaceful person think of it this way there's a difference between peace as a feeling oh sorry is the difference between peace as a feeling as a temporary emotion of ease against peace as a condition where that's the orientation of my life it's as though it peace becomes a capacity which I have peace has the ability to navigate the challenges of life but most most challenges rather and cause of stress but peace is so important because peace is the one quality that helps us navigate the difficulties and the challenges of life and we will find so many stressful situations and burdens and situations that come up and threaten this condition of peace now feeling of peace is something that I can have if I can promise off whiskey I may take two whiskies okay that will give me a peaceful feeling but it will not give me the capacity to become a peaceful person it will not lead me into the condition of peace it will just give me a feeling and the problem with this is that the fact is that it will destroy if I go all these for the peaceful feeling it will destroy my ability to enter into the condition of peace because that condition of peace Jesus will empower me for will enable me to enter into and what happens is that I can so idolize the thing that gives me the feeling face maybe it alcohol maybe it's drunks maybe it's the television mal s-- but I add to my problems by wanting the quick fix of the feeling of peace and of course if I go on and on for that it leads to this addiction that I have unhealthy behaviors and it destroys my capacity for the condition of peace now how do I enter into this capacity to know the condition of peace if you go to Philippians 4 quarters there rejoice in the Lord always Philippians 4:4 I would say again Joyce let your gentleness be evident before the Lord is near do not be anxious or stressful about anything how can I embrace the open command there to rejoice always and then could be anxious about nothing to be stressful over nothing well I think the fact that in the middle you find Paul says there the Lord is near so that's the clue to my being able to rejoice always and to be anxious for nothing it's knowing that the Lord is near and the virus may be near but the Lord is nearer sickness may be near to you at this very moment but the Lord is nearer recession may be near and you're thinking of at least courting you stress but Lord his error s may be near to you but the Lord is nearer it's knowing and apply and living in today in the light of the fact and truth that the Lord is near and he becomes my refuge and he becomes my friends he becomes my daily Good Shepherd so I can grow into this condition of peace if I go on in the rest of that Philippians chapter 4 their board says finally brothers and sisters whatsoever things are true noble Mike you're lovely admirable if there's anything excellent or praiseworthy think about both things those are the things that I need to put in my mind which help me not think about things are stressful can I talk to you here about one soothing agent that I go to when I feel stressful and when I don't feel very much at peace and be painted I think we all know this one it's comfort food isn't it I go to comfort food where when I'm feeling stressed out and that's my soothing agent I have to ask myself this morning do I really believe that food will bring peace to my soul no food will bring peace to my soul I know it will change my attitude to things Carol it up maybe you know put some peanut butter on some toast and Eller on top no because I want two things emotional feeling but if I want the condition of peace I have got to have a fresh regular experience of Christ and the mind of Christ dwelling in me you see a Holy Spirit one of the names given to the Holy Spirit it's the comforter that's what I need I don't need you know soft option of the comfort food I need the comfort of the Holy Spirit in my heart assuring me that as he is with me today he will be with me tomorrow and he will guide my decisions today as he will guide my decisions tomorrow and so my focus must be on Christ and this bring keiko on Emma let's respond to mom because you have fun and you see that that that the thing that you said that we've idolized the feelings of peace I think that's a was kind of glory thought because I don't think we've seen that we've idolized the feelings of peace because I think we like to feel good so I like I don't know whatever it is for you the TV the Xbox a glass of why I don't pick your wear however you find those feelings whether its sinful or not sinful you know but the sense that we have pushed accidentally the person of Jesus and the comfort of the Spirit by complete accident away from us by the hot pursuit of the feeling of peace rather than saying Jesus I need you to be even nearer than the TV that is my distraction and the food that is my comfort than the conversation that ties me in knots I need you to be closer and I think we have to repent and we can even start that in the comments to say I repent for idolizing the feelings of peace because in essence what that does is totally that repentance clears the way from all my wrong habits I repent for idolizing the feeling of peace because in that second you are going to get free of some food addictions oh we didn't even think we were going to be there this morning but you're going to get free of some food addictions some alcohol addictions some drug addictions some porn addictions some you know whatever else it is fill in the blank because we wanted the feeling we I we idolize that feeling that it brought us which in essence became a toxic feeling that poison our emotions mind body spirit soul and we idolize that emotion and we didn't even think oh no no no it's not a bite do that the idolizing of the feeling it is a boy I need to be beast filled as Lysa I need to be a peaceful person I actually need Jesus oops I need Jesus closer than the chocolate I need Jesus closer then you know then the drugs whatever it is and so as as much as we're typing I repent for the idolizing of the feeling of peace I think we have to start to saying Jesus you have permission to be near to me and who would have thought because of course you think no no no I'm I'm Christian Jesus you have permission to be near to me when that sense of giving permission for Jesus to come right in clothes that Jesus in those moments is closer than chocolate Jesus in those moments is closer than alcohol Jesus in those moments is closer than the distraction of say yes to the dress on the TV you know the Jesus are working you to come your permission to be near to me and that suddenly you want so many you were learning some habits that whenever you go to your default place Jesus you have permission to be near to me rather than saying I buy you no I bind the spirit of and I've got this technique for it you know dealing with my food addiction I've got this technique with this diet this whatever that actually the words Jesus you have permission to be near to me maybe the one sentence that actually will liberate you and get you over the roadblocks that you've got oh boy you got some homework you got some homework here from Pastor John this morning Jesus I give you permission to be near to me but then we're going to come back to you Sarah Jane you have some thoughts really and about Jesus building peace in us to take over and yeah yeah I just think just like to comment on as John was speaking and you're unpacking there Emma and talking about this what I feel in the spirit is is a counterfeit peace it's not we know it's not real peace we know we get it from other things and you can feel the slime on it you know in this spirit and and it's really unpleasant and I have to say even in my own life in the last week or so God's been just putting his finger on that stage you really need that chocolate you know galaxy I have to say I'm a big fan of galaxy chocolate but you know it it's become too much of a focus in these lockdown weeks and so I'm denying myself the chocolate you know and there are some other things that God has put his finger on that I'm denying and I've been practicing the presence of Jesus by doing exactly what Emma's saying Jesus I'm remembering you when I'm doing job Jesus come close to me Jesus I love you thank you Jesus for who you are thank you that you're there you know just as I'm doing some mundane tasin in the kitchen washing up or you know in the bed whatever it might be but just practicing the presence of Jesus so I know that as we walk through these days with with lockdown and with life as it goes on that we can practice the presence of Jesus and access the true solid building piece that he has left us and I really was struck with these four words the hold arms and held his disciples after he came back from the dead peace be with you they're like four building blocks you know peace be with you strong words when they put together and I feel it's like a force of foundational truth that Jesus wanted his disciples to have just after his resurrection before he went to sit at the right hand of the Father there was this building foundation that he put into his disciples that he put into his people that he put into his church peace be with you my peace I give you my peace I leave with you and the peace of God is not just this temporary state of mind like we might get when we sit in the garden with a cup of tea but it's a permanent state of being that we are supposed to have built and as locked in us that whatever is going on out there in our world in our family situation in our finances in the environment or in our nation's we are solid we are built in peace and what's interesting to me is the Jerusalem's name means city of peace or abode of peace a home a dwelling place of peace and I believe that individually we are to be this dwelling place of the peace of God that we are to be built in if you will and built up with the peace of God but that when we are fitted living stones fitted together we are to be this dwelling place of a city our temple if you will of the peace of God so when you read Matthew 10:13 Jesus has an astonishing here this is even before he's died and come back this is when he's training his disciples I feel like there's an assumption from Jesus that peace is tangible pieces solid peace is something that we can hold ourselves and we can give to each other because he says to them and if the home that you go into is deserving then let your peace rest on it let your peace be built into that home if not let your peace return to you and so there's something actually of a an exchange like I can give my peace to Sam if he's having a stressful day I can give my peace and release my peace into the supermarket I can release my peace into a family that's struggling with stress because I carry and I'm built with peace and I was afraid first this morning I saw a piece like a ballast ballast is the thing that that's built into ships that holds them steady in stormy waters ballast is the thing that is a weight at the bottom that holds them up right when all about them is up and down in those strong eces and I saw the Lord saying I'm putting my ballast in you as the people of God as a weight to hold you up right in stressful stormy seas and to keep you upright with the equilibrium and I saw the peace of God then as that way resonating you every cell of our bodies and bringing peace that is just something so substantial and so holding and so just like fortifying that we will not be shaken at no matter anything going on in our environment and that is true peace and that is accessible through the good news of peace as it says in acts 1036 the good news of Jesus is the good news of peace that we and not just apprehend and hold for a moment but we can be built up and and it can be built into who we are I mean I love that I think we used to play a game and glory peace Bob we bit naughty but whenever you see like a couple arguing in the street or you know and actually there's a fair bit of it you know in a major city like Glasgow that you actually can walk do rather than cross the road if for fear like oh my goodness what if it gets violent and I get caught up in their their their marital disputes you know that actually I've taken to working really disarmingly close to them it's probably a little bit annoying but just because you can shadow them with your piece and actually to watch the the balm of peace which seems like a weird thing to say but the balm of peace it be thrown from you into and suddenly they're chatting to each other normally they're chatting to each other in Ennis Ennis sane way and of course that kind of what what is what is what has happened there why because actually exactly from that verse that I can let my peace rest on others but I must have it built into me first and so I think there are prayers that we now need to pray you know and somebody saying yes I can drop them on my own marriage you can that you can say god I put my peace in my work god I put my peace in my marriage god I put the piece that you've given me from the most solid place of all and I'll I apply it and I kit and I reach out piece and I put on my family relationships this broken situation that's happening here my church family that's in crisis whatever it is that scripture Matthew 10 that I can rest my peace somewhere outside of my own self but I think we have so you can totally revolutionize people's worlds by dropping these peace bombs I know it's a an oxymoron but you can drop these peace bombs into people's lives that totally revolutionized them but you have to be one who says first like like Jesus talks about Jerusalem being built and established you have to go through the building and the establishing process yourself God builds peace in me some of you just need to pray that right now God build peace in me come on own it people God build peace in me and suddenly every sinew every fiber every cell every bone every emotion every thought every facet of who you are peace starts to infuse it starts to take over it starts to overwhelm you you know God builds peace in me don't just give it to me like for a moment don't just have it in the core of my building being go build it till I'm establish like Jerusalem God build it till all that I have lose is all the peace that you've got God but such peace in me that all anxiety and stress is instantaneously repelled by the peace that you have soul in that is so deep I cannot be shaken no we're going to go back to Pastor John here Sam do you have anything you want to add in that before dad shares a bite and what what's next on his heart yeah just really quickly on that I think we have to get into that a understanding of peace that peace that Jesus gives us is super natural it's not a kind of earthly thing that I can somehow work my way to attain to in fact it's so supernatural that it passes your ability to understand that that's what Philippians 4:7 says the peace that passes all understanding I think it's funny now often we want peace to come to us in a way that we understand in the bar of chocolate and the glass of wine and my favorite bench watching your movies I want peace to come to me in a way that I can understand and God has go whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa well that's an earthly peace the peace I leave with you is not the Peace of the world leaves with you it's another Waddell's peace and it's supernatural and actually is beyond your ability to understand it and so the prayer is as God gave me your peace God gave me your supernatural peace but because I understand that it comes from another world and we can't work our way up there and although we can put good principles and our life that create space for that peace but ultimately the peace is a supernatural element of who God as it passes understanding and sometimes and I know that I do that sometimes I just need to set and say God I let you wash me in your peace that will pass my understanding and I don't understand what's going on I'm not sure what's what's you know what what he's doing I don't have the eloquent prayers to pray the clear-cut thoughts out but I just let that peace wash me because I know that it's supernatural and just like you would ask for that gift of courage you know God gave me your courage or you know God gave me your faith how about God gave me your spatter of peace your supernatural spatter of peace that as an as the of this world and it's beyond human comprehension and so I think sometimes that you have to take that the pressure off yourself to work yourself into peace because it's beyond your own comprehension anyway and sometimes it's setting down and saying I don't have a good idea I don't know how to get myself into peace I feel stressful I feel this anxiety God gave me your peace because it's beyond my comprehension and it's beyond my ability to understand yeah can I just say something a little bit maybe it's a bit cheeky but I think some of us have Messiah complexes now if I said to you do you have a Messiah Complex you would all gonna pop me no no no no no no I don't have a Messiah Complex but I actually think that our Messiah Complex pushes away the peace of God let me explain what I mean by that well I can't possibly you know and stop working right now because if I don't I'm going to let people die you know I can't possibly rest and switch off because there's there's so much to be accomplished you know I can't possibly and because I don't want to disappoint people I can't possibly stop I can't possibly rest I can't possibly come into peace and that sense of anxiety and stress and and work it--put and perfectionism actually not that you ever think I'm a messiah but the Messiah Complex that feels that you've got to keep going that drives you to scratch everybody else is it that drives you into performance that drives you away from celebrating your humanity and celebrating the the space of that your fragile humanity provides for a loving God to bless you when somebody saying the superhero syndrome yes and the thinking that I've got to be perfect Messiah Complex I deliberately use that because I I want to deliberately provoke and be a little bit annoying to you this morning because I think that some of us need annoyed because we are trying to save which we are trying to save our businesses and there's a rightness to that and we are trying to save our reputations we are trying to save you know the charities that we work for and on down we are trying to save our families but actually this Messiah Complex where I must do and I can't stop and I'm not good enough and you know I can't rest you know there's no permission for me to rest that Messiah Complex that allows the demonic stress and anxiety to own you rather than that saying of I want to celebrate that you made me fragile I want to celebrate that you made me human I want to celebrate that there are some things that I cannot do and actually that I need a space for you that I must switch off I must sit down I must not be everybody else to Savior because actually I need your peace and they need your peace rather than me trying to sort everything else out for them and so dad you have some great thoughts on the transfer of peace because let's get practical how does it happen how do I ditch my Messiah Complex where I want to be there for everybody else and and how do I get this transfer from Jesus rather than continually letting the sense of the catastrophic take over everything so I'm in this perpetual motion game all my life dad over to you right okay I mean if we've been parents people oh I was handing the part of the opportunity to try and comfort our children when they have been anxious or stressed or agitated by something and research says that when a parent or a caregivers the case may be soothes and comforts an infant maybe taking them in their arms but when they do that they actually help rewire the brain of the little infant they helped rewire their little nerve cells by the comfort they give so that eventually the child carries in their body but peace once existed in that situation only in the heart and life of a parent now you think that through that is an amazing process and it's called the process of attachment and soothing now if you've been a Christian for a little while I hope your mind would have really been excited by that because the Bible doesn't say we have the brain of Christ does it God in fact doesn't have a brain but has a mind but he doesn't have a brain but we are encouraged to have the mind of Christ let that mind of Christ dwell in you and the author of the book you are not Gus your brain I'm done at this point with something very important I think for us to learn to distinguish as Christian people between our minds and our brains now the brain is that sort of three-pound great issue that lives up here in that large skulls but the brain is basically passive it basically registers things and it repeats what has been registered in the brain and it reacts to what you feed it now your mind is something completely different your mind besides the focus or whatever it wants to focus on the mind is the place where you make your decisions and your choices and their for it's with your mind you decide the things that are Noble and good and right and when you decide in your mind those things we are in the line mind of Christ then you grow into the condition of peace you go into the conditional joy you grow into the condition of love as well irrespective of whatever your circumstances are because those things are inspired by the power of God at work in your life but those things the part the condition of peace and something that can overflow that you can give and pass on to somebody else very important verse in Corinthians where Paul the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any troubles with the comfort we ourselves receive from born now I'd really unpack that verse but though I am think that verse think about that verse and think about the peace that you have God has given you but it's come by the way of your mind and you have told your brain some things yes oh see so otherwise it's either your brain controls you or your mind either your brain can hold your mind or your mind controlled your brain and for the Christian the modern controls the brain and we have the mind of Christ and therefore we can give peace to someone else in a soothing way that can bring them from a situation rest and anxiety good situation of peace and rest so death can I just ask you a question in that in terms of that attachment soothing so the research is saying that when we are held and soothed that there is a transference a rewiring to come into peace by the act of being held and soothed yes there is a change in the synapses cells the cell in cell ends in the brain that that something happens and they forged ever and so the sense of if I let myself be held hmm then my brain comes into peace yes yes yes there is a transference that happens through the attachment it's funny because it's very often in ministry I just feel I think as the momma bear thing wakes up in you and this very often ministry I feel like I just need to hold this person and sometimes I do that with my children I just need to hold you or even actually was David you know my husband where it's not just a passing hug in the kitchen you know or whatever it is but there's a moment where and there's there's a holding because you just by instinct you know you need to hold on to somebody but actually what you're doing in their brain is you are transferring peace to them and so I think I want us to feel isn't it ridiculous in social distancing we can't do this but to do it squirrel away that thought then actually in the in me being held or me holding somebody else that we can actually transfer peace to them intentional hugging somebody is saying you know and I know sometimes Sarah Jane has said to me I just need to cuddle and I've given you a hug Sarah Jane you know it's not that frequently but that sense of I just need to hold my friend you know and the beauty of that I just need to hold and occasionally Sam and Sam you're not particularly heavy huggy person but there are moments I said to you I just need to give you a hug Sam you know and that sense of the yes somebody saying I'm missing that the most I mean absolutely but sometimes when we're it's stressing about our family or stressing about ourselves and we don't want an aggro conversation and sometimes language you know you'll accidentally press some of these buttons but sometimes actually what you need to do is go and grab them and hug them or say can you just hold me for a second but more importantly somebody's actually giving me the tyrese on it Thank You min Watson it has to be 20 seconds well done you I love that know how to count I will have to kind collective like the tiger hugs but I think what that must apply to as well is Jesus I let you hold me and how many times do we actually Jesus you just need to hold me right now because in that there is a transference of soothing and peace and maybe if you want a quick win for telling your stress if you want a quick win for your liberation from anxiety maybe you just need to stand still in your in your office running to the office restrooms you know wherever you need to be and start to say Jesus just hold me for twenty seconds and even actually put a timer on your phone Jesus just hold me for 30 seconds boy did you ever think that this would be your homework Jesus just holds me Jesus just holds me because in the Jesus just hold me there is the transferrin spoiler practical and supernaturally on it this morning Jesus just hold me that actually your peace then infiltrates my entire being that you can do that in the car as I said in the restroom in there wherever it needs to be Jesus just hold me till I'm soothed until my synapse is in my brain get real no wonder five times in the New Testament it says greet each other with a holy kiss no wonder the New Testament says a template for physical levels of interaction dad you had another thought and I just thought on that before we change and I just say I really psalm 130 131 is exactly what we're talking about here is this I have still done quite in my soul like a will wean child with his mother and in that sense of the the close proximity isn't it the skin-to-skin contact of a weaned child I don't know but then it will be difficult to know but you know just being close with your child and that skin-to-skin contact is so precious and so quietening that it's not just a even what we do in the natural as adults which is great and we can hold each other we've all felt the need for that I think it's it's the beyond place it's this perfect place of union of a child and mother in that place of peace that Jesus gives does when we when we lean in and I think about John leaning on the the chest of Jesus leaning in to his beloved and I remember you commenting Emma on my son and his friend Philip who are just good buddies but they just always are touching and hugging each in a kind of manly way but just you know I just want to lean on my friend and I think like Jesus and John it's just that proximity isn't it of of of being a friend but in a deep deep way like a child and his mother so I would encourage everyone to read that some and really understand what we're talking about and that is to say that there is one real comfort food one real comfort food and you and you know and you know what it is it's bread that is the real comfort food of the new testament port I can take the bread and the wine Wow Wow and something tangible in the day of intangible virtual conversations dad can you just pray for us we've got you know just a minute and release you you are a man of peace a man of great stability and very rarely do we see anything in fact I can always count on one hand you know in 45 years because you're such amount of peace and stability you know so just release that to his footing your peace may rest on all of us here watching yes Heavenly Father we thank you that your present is here and we sense your closeness we sense again your strength and you'll eat in our heart now it's a real joy to release that peace to everyone who is watching and listening to my voice at this moment Easter passes all understanding we can't explain it father but we can experience it and may that be the experience of your children today whatever their circumstances whether they were like the Apostle Paul of all the eating execution often in prison pressed buffeted under enormous stress and pressure talking about peace and may your peace whatever this personal circumstances me faces in this moment are may your peace invade us and liberate us and bring us into a period of sense of security and rest in you at this time and may the mind with price live in us well in us and control all that we think and all that we say and all that we do peace I give you Jesus Lord Jesus give that peace in death amen amen someone's just saying can you be there tattoo yes I think we all share them collectively as our dad so come to God's Word and that you can take Mike for a coffee and he'll be your dad to heart lots of wisdom so yes you know he's there for the sharing okay okay and God will stay on after to debrief but thank you for joining us this morning and we've got another three sessions this week we're only just warming up this week what a great bursting onto this for week seven and we will see you ha are people tomorrow bye-bye [Music]
