up a brother reuben and pastor levi from modesto tonight they're going to share a few words with us amen if you'll come up hallelujah amen rock paper scissors do what you got to do bro wow surprise surprise surprise did you know about this you didn't tell me i seen you guys talking i wasn't sure okay how's everybody doing tonight you're in the presence of the lord you know that we walked into this place you can feel the presence of god so thick in this place and we came just to just to pretty much come and visit uh but pastor reuben rainey your senior pastor um i've known him for for a lot of years a lot of years and when we came in tonight we came just to receive and i wanted to come and see this man he's been a big part of our life um years years down the road and so i'm thankful i'm thankful to be here i'm blessed to be a part of this what god is doing something new something fresh i'm blessed to have my wife here with me sister nikki she's with me so i'm blessed to have her i'm actually a pastor's kid so i've been raised in ministry my whole life didn't serve god my whole life raised in the ministry my whole life i've been saving i've been serving the lord now for 12 years by the grace of god i'm not going back to the world and um so i'm there under my father pastor robert romero in the city of modesto and it's just an honor and privilege to be here you can tell that i'm nervous but i'm blessed to be here i feel like i'm home if i could say that i don't know how you feel about like this is home for me and i'm blessed to be here pastor ruben i love you i appreciate the opportunity to even come and be be a guest and be here with you guys so we love you so much come on pass ruby go ahead praise the lord and then that's my best friend right there for many many years but uh it's good to be here uh my name is um ruben my lovely wife rose right here and uh it just feels good to be in the presence of the lord and uh as pastor levi said i'm a pk kid as well and i know pastor reuben for many many years and him and his him and his son jason we used to get trouble in the parking lots together and uh but it's just so good um to be here with family and uh just to be a part of what god is doing i'm so blessed um for what god has given you in this this facility this uh this this campus i mean it is a blessing you guys are blessed and um i'm really excited because you know just the the fruit from your pastor pastor reuben and this is labor and uh his vision and his wisdom um this doesn't you should not take this facility lightly at all and i passed by this place a couple of times and i saw the name and i'm like whose church is that because i thought you guys were in bueno park and then when i found out this was your place i'm like wow this is amazing but it's an honor to really be here i it is it's really an honor to be here good to see pastor reuben and uh master edgy i mean uh i seen him on on youtube and he's just like a youtube a fireball i would watch him and i literally would uh uh get wet from his spit just from uh from just listening to him and uh and uh uh and i would preach and and when he would preach i'd go he preaches like me or i preach like him you know but uh we really i think we're um brothers that we didn't even know about and then um so we're twins if you guys didn't know that uh i'm danny devito and that's arnold schwarzenegger but um you know but but um such a blessing to be here and be a part of what you guys are doing today thank you for this opportunity god bless [Applause] hallelujah amen those were the these these guys were little back in the day but royal rangers these guys were the royal rangers so when you see these kids out here ripping things up and something man they're going to grow up in the things of god and they're going to be preachers one day amen hallelujah amen if you have your bible turn with me to the book of leviticus amen i have the honor of picking up this evening's the word give and it'll walk you through it amen and i was listening to a discussion among spiritual leaders and they were speaking about tithing one of the most talked about subjects because there are still people who still don't understand the concept of giving and then what they were talking about is where does the tithe belong does it belong to the universities does it belong to missions does it belong but the bible is very clear that it belongs to the house of god the bible says in malachi is to bring in all your tithe and offering into the storehouse amen this is the storehouse this is where god feeds us this is where god develops us amen and we look back in in in genesis chapter 14 we see that that abraham was the first one to give an offering this was 430 years before the mosaic law so it goes back and one person said this he and this is what caught me he says if if 10 was required under the law what what percentage would be under grace under grace so here it says this in leviticus 27 verse 30 it says all the tithe of the land whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree is the lord's it is holy unto the lord amen so when we honor god when we say you know what lord whatever you have given me lord i will return to you what belongs to you amen the concept of giving amen and you know your tithe belongs to the storehouse it doesn't belong to tbn it doesn't belong to overseas ministry it doesn't belong to you know forever 41 it doesn't belong to any of those places it belongs to god amen and god blesses your 90 how many how many love the fact that you're 90 is blessed amen amen and you know throughout these years i've seen the hand of god bless the people of god who were faithful amen and it's a blessing to see what god continues to do that that that the word of god does not return back void that where we see today tonight this evening these young men who grew up in the things of god they seen the blessings that their parents were given and they're able to walk in those same blessings as well amen in the next generation in the generation after that amen it's a true blessing amen so tonight when we just say you know lord i want to honor you i want to just return to you what belongs to you and then you on top of that if you say you know what i want to give an offer i want to give a thanks offering god has been good to me this season and you know what god i want to thank you and praise your holy name and i'ma just you know just bless you amen so let's pray for this offering tonight heavenly father we thank you lord god for this opportunity to return to you father father like like the the men of of the test old testament lord god abraham jacob these men who have honored you lord god with a tithe father god teach us lord god to trust in you father god further this lord god for your kingdom lord we pray lord blessings over this offering the giver as they give father god in your precious name we give you honor we give you glory in jesus name and we all say you call my name [Music] you call my name is [Music] it was [Music] i try [Music] you call my name into your glorious day [Music] into your glorious day [Music] now your mercy has saved my soul [Music] jesus when i met you you called my name and i ran out of that grace out of the darkness into your glorious day you called my name and i ran out of [Music] [Music] now you call me a citizen when i was broken you were my healing now your love is into your [Music] out of the darkness hey come on hallelujah amen you can go ahead and take your seats tonight amen tonight i got the privilege of sharing god's word amen so we're going to get right into it amen the whole month where on the theme fight amen and how many know that's a great subject for us amen and i'm going to be talking out of first samuel chapter 17 i'm going to read verses 1 and 3 and then i'm going to jump to verse 17 through 24. i'm going to read out of the new life version the title of my message is dress to impress now it reads like this from verses one to three now the philistines gathered their armies for battle they were gathered at soko and which belongs to judah they set up their tents and it says in verse two saul and the men of israel were gathered together and set up their tents in the valley of elah they came up dressed for battle to fight against the philistines verse 3 the philistines stood on the mountain on one side while israel stood on the mountain on the other side with the valley between them now in verse 17 it says then jesse said to a son david take your brothers a basket of this big grain and these ten loaves hurry and carry them to your brothers among the army and take these ten pieces of cheese to the leader of the thousand man group who is with them see how your brothers are doing and bring me news of them verse 19 saul and your brothers and all the men of israel are in the valley of elah fighting the philistines verse 20 so david got up early in the morning left the flock in the care of a shepherd he took the food and went and jesse as jesse had told him and he came to the tents as the army was going out dressed for battle calling out the war cry then verse 21 israel and the philistines came near each other dressed for battle army against army verse 22 david left the things with the man to take care of them he ran to the army and went to meet his brothers as he talked with them goliath the philistine from gath came out of the army of the philistines and spoke the same words as before and david heard him verse 24 when all the men of israel saw the man they ran away from him and were very much afraid let's pray father we come to to you tonight father first of all we give you all the glory the honor and the praise lord i pray you take full control of our thoughts god you take full control god of everything that's taking place right now we surrender to your holy spirit to do what he needs to do in our lives father i pray i step aside and you use me to transmit your word tonight father the way you placed it in my heart we come against distractions right now in the name of jesus christ father and we're careful to give you all the glory honor and praise and everyone said amen and amen the reason why i titled this dress to impress is because a lot of times we as believers we know how to put on our armor now if you look at the story it said they dressed for battle but the reality is they were not really in a battle all they did was dress up go to one side of the mountain goliath on the other side of the mountain and all they did was shout at each other that's it it's like when somebody asks you how you doing brother how you doing sister oh i'm doing great but the reality is you're not doing great [Music] how many christians come to church already knowing how to put their armor on know how to carry the right bible some you still haven't even opened your bible don't even know the jehovah witness amen but it's all right amen but we know how to dress up we know how to say the right words amen and and and we know scripture and and and we know when to shout amen but the reality is we're not in the battle we're just standing on the edge amen and we're shouting at the enemy all the devils upon oh the devil ain't got nothing on me but yet we walk around in bondage i was looking at this and i was saying man the story of david and goliath is where the holy spirit is working in david but at the same time he's showing an army that was built for war and everybody thought they were in war because jesse told david gold take your brothers as food because they're in the battle they weren't in the battle that tells me that you can have people fooled because you know how to dress how many could say amen look at your neighbors he's talking about you tonight come on now i'm just joking don't get all mad some of you started mad dog me already man so i'm looking at this i'm saying man because these were veterans these were guys that were used to battle these were men that had scars all over them david was too young to go to battle but his father sent them there and i'm thinking well why did they stop fighting and i'm saying maybe there's some of you here you're tired of the battle you've been faithful at your post and and you've been going but you've been getting hit and you've been getting hit and you've been getting hit and without realizing that you're no longer in the battle you're just shouting and how many know that's reality sometimes we think we're getting hit and then i'm starting looking from another perspective maybe they were in the battle and they got tired of being hurt they're going to be people here tonight you're tired because you say i'm getting beat up i can't take it no more and the more you try to press in the more that giant shouts how many can say amen or ouch amen so when we look at the story saul the first king of israel had failed and god had promised that the kingship would be removed from the line of saul and he would raise up a new leader after his own heart and how many know that's david we know the story of david that's why when we hear the story we can get excited but david did not know the story all david knew is that he he had an assignment and he was being faithful in that assignment and it was just taking bread and food in other words he was taking lunch sometimes we get tired in our assignments because it's small i don't want to uh sure i don't want to work in the children's ministry i bring my kids because i'm taking a break why should i take care of somebody else's kids [Applause] i know i did that i've been there amen and david didn't understand he was just being faithful in the little but how many know god loves little things i said god loves little things see did we know the story david was was anointed as king then he went back to being a shepherd the hand of god was on his life but he had to go through the process in order to develop his character some of us here tonight are still developing our character amen we want the giants but god is saying no you haven't been faithful in the little and because you haven't been faithful in the little your character's not developed see they dressed to impress for battle but they weren't really in the battle they lift their hands in church they know how to speak in tongues [Music] right shando and a bag of chips right i wish i had a handoff right we all know those words it said goliath was described as a champion that that means that he won a lot of battles to call him a champion he was birthed for for war three things about giants before we get into the points every giant reveals who you are every giant whatever your giant your what giant you're facing tonight it's showing the real you some of us are tired i can't take it no more and sometimes when you get tired when you're the giant shouts too much you'll run to alcohol you'll run to prescription meds amen you'll run to that sidekick you'll run to whatever it is and and we have to understand that we not only need the armor of god but we need to attack our giants [Applause] how many ever got mad and said a cuss word didn't blame the other person you see what you made me do right you know what happened that giant revealed the real you when god shapes and molds us it's like toothpaste he's got to squeeze everything for everything can come out that's why someone where did that come from it was in you the second thing about giants people who reach giant places have defeated giants david just didn't get here by coincidence he was faithful little the lion the bear being a faithful servant now he would just bring a faithful servant taking lunch and because he was faithful in the little god took him to greater things the third thing is giants are tools that god uses to prepare us for greater things if you can't defeat your giant you're never going to reach greater things now let me ask this question what are some giants you need to deal with in your life maybe it's pride nobody can tell me that's why god can't move you to the next level because you have pride right someone's got pride like i don't do that who said to do it if it comes from pastor i'll do it that's pride god sets leadership in the church he puts authority and when you're a servant you learn how to come under authority maybe it's anger see some of you are getting angry because i'm talking about pride you already shut me off maybe it's anger you're praying god help me in my anger so he's putting you in situations that are going to get you frustrated to see how but wisers are not going to make you wiser it's going to make you more dumb and every time you you get angry you go out this this relaxes me you should go in the presence of god if you want to relax amen sit at his feet and say god i'm tired god i'm angry what about health issues that can be a giant you got a report from the doctor but how many know we believe the report amen from the king of kings amen our lord jesus christ maybe a giant is your marriage you're already looking to trade her in trade him in they got too many flat tires hello somebody right they got too many flat tires and i'm going to try no let me tell you me and my wife we've been married 40 years 40 years we've been serving the lord 39 years you know and one thing i learned is my wife the way she is now is how i made her if i treated her nice she going to be loving if i treated her bad she's going to come against everything i try to do your wife is your partner in ministry she's to help you not to complete you christ completes us how many could say amen we have to understand him and christ completes us and when we're incomplete when we're completing christ then when we get married we understand you don't complete me christ completes me but you help me fulfill the ministry that god has given us maybe a giant is your single you know in your church you look holy but outside man you're looking to see who you can hook up with single dot com or whatever the thing you go to man you start texting people you know hey you know how you doing i just want to make sure you're doing good the lord loves you you know and it's the opposite sex that you have no business texting because sooner or later that texting becomes sexting let's go on amen some of you what about doubt god says i can use you in a great way but you doubt him because you see yourself as little fear god i'm afraid to serve you i messed up my whole life when i got saved i used to tell the lord that all the time my first two years god i messed up everything in my life everything when we got married i missed out on we were going to get a divorce went in the marine corps mess that up at 17. you know so when i got saved i'm like god i'm not going to serve you oh you're called you guys tell everybody that that's the pastor's job to tell everybody you're called by god right that's the way we think [Applause] and and and so i would doubt doubt it then finally i came to the point god i'm tired of fighting with you let me just surrender and see what you can do in my life amen and when you surrender then god is able to say now i can work in those areas that you struggle with what about lust hello somebody you look holy right now but you know later on man let's just go on here what about unforgiveness that could be a giant that person hurt me i used to sit behind him in church but now i sit on the other side because i can't forgive him character you got weak character you fall for anything doesn't matter anything while they offered it to me that's why i took a hit or you go to the extreme you don't offer you just go around when they smoke it for you can make contact see too many christians know how to dress up dress up but they have no fight in them and there's too many christians that use all their energy fighting god about his purpose for their life that you have no more energy to fight the enemy god you made a mistake no god i can't pastor no god i can't be an evangelist no god i can't go to a third world country no god i can't be a rehab director no god i can't work with the children no god i can't do nothing stop fighting god amen and fight the enemy because you use all your energy telling god he made a mistake when god is saying no i did and all you have to do is trust me i want to look at the life of david characteristics of david because we've seen the children of israel they just lined up 40 days and 40 nights twice a day and just shouted had everybody full that they walked in victorious in victory some of us do that we come to church and and we're struggling and we're walking in bondage but everybody thinks you're in a battle when the reality is you're just dressing up you're just playing house you know how little girls do they play house oh you're calling me a girl if the heels fit well hey man come on the first characteristic of david david didn't start off as a giant slayer as a giant killer because we come here and we can think well david was a giants no he didn't start off as that david started off tending sheep in first samuel 16 11. i saw he was doing us taking care of the sheep the lord knew he was going to be a shepherd so he was teaching them if you can love sheep you can love people some of us we we want a pastor but you love no people you love ministry and if you get into ministry because you love ministry sooner or later you're going to fail you have to love people when you love people it doesn't matter what position you have because you're doing the same thing when you get saved or from the same thing when you're pastoring loving people david just tended cheap the next thing he did he was an armor bearer in chapter 16 verse 21 he came to saul and entered his service and saul liked him very much david was also he played music that sue the distressing spirit i mean how many real music does that just like when we came in for worship some of you came in man you dragged yourself here but as you heard our worship team go all of a sudden something was lifted from you that's the power of music amen so when you go home and you're out and you're going through a battle and the giants are yelling at you don't go play worldly music that's going to get your mind thinking the old way play some good gospel music amen that talked about the power of god amen so david understood how god looked at little things because david took care of the little things that was given to him see the lord isn't calling you or calling me to do anything extraordinary today he's calling us just to be faithful in the little sometimes we think god what big thing am i supposed to do and the lord is saying no be faithful in the little i love little things just stay faithful to the ordinary tasks he's called you to do in first peter 5 6 it says therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of god set aside aside self-righteous righteous pride so that he may exalt you to a place of honor and his service at the appropriate time he said just stay humble amen just do the little things be faithful in the little things and in due time i'll pick you up higher let me give you some free 99 we all like free stuff first samuel 17 17-29 david was the youngest of brothers see david set out to do little things in verse 20 it says so david got up early he left the flock in the care of the shepherd that tells us that david understood the importance of little thing he could have just let the sheep run by itself but god that his father gave him an assignment let me take care of the responsibility i already have that shows good character how many could say amen that show he was responsible that shows he was trustworthy see it's not the mountaintop experiences that we need help with it's the everyday routine that we need help with in spite of how simple the assignment was david realized that little things matter to god if you're taking notes write this down until you understand that little things matter to god you will never be able to fulfill your destiny the little things david did the little things with excellent david understood how it helps it's so important to do normal things david had a standard that he held himself too and that was a standard of excellence and david knew amen that that god was doing something in his life but that he had a responsibility so wherever god had him at he was faithful that encourages us that whatever post you're at whether children's ushers outside amen a son whatever worship do your best because god likes the little things your life will test you with small things some of us can't experience greater things because we're not faithful with the little things number two david heard the giant and he heard the reward in first samuel 17 23 and 24 it says as he talked with them goliath the philistine from gath came out of the army of the philistines and spoke the same words as before and it says and david heard him real simple and then a period the army of israel saw him david heard him let me know there's a difference there amen that's the difference from the supernatural to the natural in the supernatural you're going to hear things amen but in the natural you're going to see things the children of israel they saw the giant and the bible says they ran with fear and now the bible says here david heard
