mark chapter 12 verse 1 through 44 out of the message translation it says sitting across from the offering box he was observing how the crowd tossed money in for the collection many of the rich were making large contributions it says one poor widow came up and put two small coins a measly two cents jesus called his disciples over and said the truth is that this poor widow gave more to the collection than all the others put together all the others gave what they'll never miss she gave extravagantly what she couldn't afford she gave her all amen now don't get scared we're not going to ask you to give your all amen and but there's there's something here that we can see how many know that you can always know where someone's priority is by looking at their checkbook or looking at your bank statement we know what your priority is if you like food amen those burritos or whatever it is that's all your is going to go there amen and so how many know that in the house of god this is where our priority is this is where you find your vision this is where you find your purpose this is where god restores lives amen and touches us and takes us to the next level so this should be our priority we spend money on things that are important to us and so by us looking at where our money is going we're able to check the condition of our hearts let me ask you a question here uh tonight what is the condition of your heart tonight amen when it comes to the area of giving are you excited to give amen will you say man i'm gonna give because when we look at the story jesus wasn't impressed of what can be accomplished with two copper coins he wasn't impressed by that what he was impressed by was the widow's heart it almost sounds like that our foot had a widow a little widow he was he was concerned about the widow's heart he was able to look there and and because everybody else it says all these people because back then they had brass big old circle brass things so when they would throw a lot of money it made a lot of noise and so you had all these people rich people throwing in money and jesus look okay but when this this this widow she gave two coins it got his attention amen because he knew the attitude of her heart because why her gift revealed her priorities see our gift that we give to the lord is going to reveal our priorities if we say we love you lord then we're going to be able to release our finances also not just our time not just our talents but our finances amen and look to your neighbor tom he's talking about you now how many know the act of giving reveals the condition of our hearts the act of giving reveals the condition of our hearts and in the process of our giving god is shaping our priorities i would like to say that when we come into church and we start off in church and that all right give not everybody's like that because we work hard for our money how many can say amen but when god starts taking control of our life our priorities change amen you no longer are so loud to that one sports where you have to buy everything they have amen now you're like no i'm going to give my money to the church because god has done so much in my life so that's what i mean by god start shaping our priorities you no longer say well i could miss that burrito amen today i'm going to give that money amen and give it to the church i know some of you you're like what what no what do you mean i can't miss that brewery yes we can amen so when we have our priorities right it's easy for us to give our ties an offering how many know that's true when our priorities are right you're like man god hear this this is yours anyways and then we start getting envelopes that are straight they're not all wrinkled because you didn't want to let them go away man we got nice envelopes when we get back amen so jesus is here he got his attention but it was so much that he got his attention was the priority amen that that she was able to say i put christ first amen and that's all we're doing here when we come and we pray and we pick up our tithes and our offering we're saying god i'm putting you first and for some you may say well i've been faithful in my tithes i mean now it's time to step out and say god now i'm going to give above my tithes i'm going to learn to give offering amen and we do that when you go to a good restaurant and they treat you good don't you tip them a little more amen why i mean because it was they were good to you how much more i or or should i say it this way who has god been good to here tonight raise your hands up amen see that's what i'm saying how do we show it we're able to show it with our time our talents and also our tithe which is our finances so we're going to pray tonight we're going to ask god to bless our tithes to multiply that we can continue to do what god has called our church amen to do here at living word so pray with me tonight and father first of all we thank you god for the people that are here the people that are watching we thank you for those that have been faithful my god we thank you for those my god that are starting my god they may struggle a little bit god but you continue to give them the faith to put you first my god bless our tithes bless our offering my god that we can continue in these last days to do what you called us to do and that is when souls many are happy to be in the house of god today [Applause] amen amen go ahead and have a seat in the presence of the lord amen i dig that song man that song was right on right on amen i was listening to danny pick up the man i said man he's going to preach my message tonight i'm going to speak about the heart and i titled it a troubled heart amen how many here have uh had a procedure or an elective surgery of some sort and and prior to they they want to do what is called a pre-op they want to make sure before they put you under the knife amen that you're you know basically not going to die on the table so they want to see where your heart's at kind of like our check engine light amen amen i'm not going to ask how many here are driving around with a couple of those lights on your dashboard amen because what happens oftentimes is that we ignore it you know the light goes on and you know that that one that looks like a little swerve amen i know i have to google that to see what that one was it tells you if your tire pressure is low it tells you if your battery or your oil so there are signs and symptoms of the heart that indicate if that heart is troubled in the same manner in the spiritual heart is also and it it kind of parallels where they're very similar in in the sense that when the spiritual heart is failing and it's in trouble there are always signs and symptoms that that heart is in trouble turn with me to the book of proverbs chapter 4. proverbs chapter 4. oftentimes when we look at the heart we always reference it to the character of an individual the character like if i see that that individual who's like you know they're they're they're a giving person they they have a giving heart and then you see that one person who goes out of their way to to help someone and and be a part and just be helpful and kind that person has a generous heart and then we have the others where you know what man they're just they're just uh man they're they're bad to the bone ain't no good about them man they're just always in trouble with you and people will label man that person has a wicked heart a person could be a brave courageous person and that person is all heart we all grew up with individuals that man you know what that brother has caught us on man that brother is is i mean i could count on them and so in referencing a person's character we always look at the heart proverbs 4 23 it says this it says above all else guard your heart for everything you do flows from it let's pray father i thank you lord for tonight father for the opportunity to minister your word lord i i ask father god that your word fall on good ground lord that hearts are receptive father lord god as as we get into this word father god that you would just prepare us and challenge us lord god and that we would take heed of the signs and the symptoms lord i'm mindful of your presence lord god i give you full lord god that you take full control of this service lord god use me as a vessel lord i give you honor praise and all glory one of the symptoms of an individual in in the in the physical realm is that they become fatigue an individual could be suffering from a a cardiac issue and have a congestive heart failure and and they struggle with fatigueness they struggle with tiredness in in and it's very evident that this person is is lethargic in in and this is one of the signs that they look for they will take your blood pressure and they want to see where your heart is is working some of you here have have had issues with blood pressure in the past or you've had issues where you felt a fluttering or a palpitation or a shortness of breath all these are symptoms of something that is taking place inside your physical body but spiritually fatigue the definition of fatigue is extreme tiredness resulting from a mental and physical exertion how many have ever met you you you might not have a very strenuous job but the job that you have it involves thinking it involves being detailed it involves it you're in front of the computer and you're watching these things and a lot of times we could become so fatigued that we met we get a headache we get a migraine you know you start seeing blurry and these these are all signs of a tiredness of being fatigued then we have the other individuals who man you work hard out on the on the pavement man you're a construction worker or you're doing physical labor that causes your body to be physically fatigued and tired see god created our bodies to store enough energy to get through the day but then we must rest in order to recharge paul said it best he said in galatians that do not become weary and doing good how many knows that when you're doing the right thing you're you're you're doing everything that you're taught everything that you have been shown to do right that you could still become fatigued see i've said this before you didn't get tired when you were doing bed you always had energy to do the wrong thing i mean you always had that extra energy stored up inside of you man to travel man you would travel clear across the tent freeway for a little party you always had that strength you'd you'd worry about tomorrow tomorrow but see one thing about the fatigue is that it wears you down it'll wear you down physically mentally uh and and and the body starts to starts to uh uh uh expel energy and sometimes man you just feel like man just you wish you could unzip your head and just take your brain out and put in a nice cold uh bucket of water with ice how many have you ever had those days where man you just spent like man it's only four o'clock man and everything has happened flat tire car won't start a man you laid hands on it it still wouldn't start amen triple a's like on there they're on their way and you're still waiting and you know you got to be somewhere man and all this takes place and it weighs on us and it causes us to become fatigue see one of the things that we must understand is that rest is important to your spiritual walk with the lord many christians today don't appreciate the value of rest and one thing about rest that it allows the mind the body and the soul to renew and start with even more strength to focus i mean we often time man you you go into a panic when you got one cell on your phone you have backup batteries you have all these things but a lot a lot of the stuff that you do on your phone drains your battery and man you're looking for an outlet i've i've seen businessmen in three-piece suits sitting on the floor in the bathroom charging their phones because we feel man that we can't miss that call man some of you don't remember but there a lot of us do when there were no cell phones amen you and then afterwards they came up with the pager which to if you look at it now it was like what was the point you just got a beeper that somebody wanted to talk to you but a lot of the things that we do now we don't we we took for granted back then of all the things see i just jotted this down in finding rest say how do you rest i wrote down these four things the first one is come to jesus listen if you're having a struggle in your life and trying to fix things on your own you've yet to come to jesus when you come to jesus let me tell you he gives you a rest and a peace and as christians often times what we do is man we try to do things in our own strength we try to do things that in the way that we want them to do they want to do have it done but god is telling us look take your hands off of things and allow me to guide you allow me to open the door see sometimes when the door is not opening quick enough we want to kick it down we want to help god we want to go in there and start you know rearranging things and and saying god this is how i think you should do it how many know that god's plans is not our plans that god has a different way of doing things some of you are here in the house of god not by your choice not by your choice man how you got here man praise god how you got here some of you men had to come the long way some of you just you know what uh you met this person and this person introduced you to this person boom and you're and you're here and month after month and god is developing you and god is encouraging you and strengthening you and god is god is revealing things to you and it all becomes evident of what god wants to do but you what must first come to jesus you must come to jesus when people are trying to figure things out on their own what they're saying is is that i have a better way to do it listen if you're here you're watching on on our live stream and you're here in the house of god and you're struggling you need to come to jesus come to jesus matthew 11 28 it says this come on to me all you that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest how many can appreciate the rest that god has you where you don't have to like man you know what i was talking to this young man and he was like man he he says man i don't remember any time in my adult life where i wasn't on parole 25 years and he says i'm finally off of parole i'm off of pro and it's kind of like man i i never i never thought that i would get to this point because he made a decision years back that he wasn't going to allow the enemy to steal from him anymore and that he was going to commit his life to god and allow god to give him the rest see when an individual is out of the will of god there is no rest there is no wish you are living on a wish you are living on a wish in the sense that you say you know what i wish that this works out i wish that i could have that when god says look it's all there for you all you need to do is come surrender see we have a hard time with that we have a hard time with surrendering because we feel that we're going to lose all our liberties all our freedoms and the truth is is that when you surrender to god god gives you better god gives you way better than what you had where you man and puts you in a position that mentally man you're able to say you know what god man this is the first time i could actually say man i have a rest and i have a peace within myself how many here have experienced that can i hear an amen so in your busy world we all know this rest doesn't always come easily we run out of time before we run out of the task 24 hours in a day is all we have that's all we have we're all equal in that some of you sleep five hours some of you sleep 12 hours so it's what you do with that time see how many how many will testify and be truthful with yourself is that in the world you wasted a lot of time a lot of time i mean some of you are so so hooked on your on your on your gaming that man if you got paid for the hours that you spent on that you'd have a nice chunk of change so haven't come to jesus see as christians we could all come to a place in our walk where we feel we're doing everything that we can to stay in the race and slowly we can become drained and battle weary and it's it's possible it's possible we see this in in our in our military men that's why they have moments where they have r and r rest and relaxation in christianity i say r and r is restoration to release where god restores you to release you where god does that work in your life and that that you allow him see god can only do with what you allow him to do see when you go to god and i say this when you go to god as the mechanic what you're telling him is god i got a whole bunch of display lights on my dashboard right now something's going on here and he says let me let me see what's under the hood let me see what i need to do and he starts to reveal it to you and sometimes man you got a whole mess of things going on but god says let's take care of this and when you get into his word and then you come across a portion of scripture where god says let's take care of that and it starts to unfold see this is this is a process here this is salvation is awesome man but it's a process and there's there's a lot that god is dealing with is on our character see we have a lot of people who have who have a talent they could do a lot of the things that is being done here but they don't have the character that lines up with it see god is more more uh in tune with trying to see what the condition of your heart is to place you where god is saying look i need to do this in you and take that out of you and give you this which brings me to the second point pray listen if you want to find rest let me tell you the one thing that is most important the greatest weapon that god has ever given you and i is the power of prayer see prayer is you communicating with god his word is him communicating with you so the bible says in philippians chapter 4 verse 6 it says be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving let your requests be known to god and the peace of god which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through christ jesus see worry and fear rob you of your faith and your peace worry and feel fear i grew up in a household where tomorrow was always at the front door what is tomorrow then what if this what is that what is that i mean when i grew up i grew up i don't remember going to a school two years in a row we were always moving we were always doing all these all these things were coming and as children when children see their parents worrying it trickles down onto them see i think it's important that your children young and old that they see you standing for god that they see you praying for them that they see you on your knees and and living the lifestyle that you preach to have a life of prayer see when you share your requests with the lord great peace comes when you share it peace is the foundation of rest in jesus see to build anything you have to have a foundation and a christian that does not pray that does not make that part of their life there is no development you're living off sometimes off of other people's prayers your parents or what not see the one thing that that i've always taught my kids and anyone who will listen is that jesus wants a relationship with you knowing me ain't going to get you in heaven knowing me knowing any big you know pastor minister whoever they will not get you into heaven you can't go to the to the gates of heaven and when they look at the book and they don't find your name and they say well you know you know what can you can you call pastor pastor eli well no you're not in here well you know what look again they call me they call me uh uh uh silent look under look under that maybe that no see jesus wants a relationship with you jesus wants to hear from you jesus wants to move in your life and when you start to connect with god there's a recharging in your soul and it just it just gives your heart just a good a jolt amen you guys are familiar with tvs where you see that someone's down and they slap a a pad on them and they say okay everybody clear and boom and there's a a volt that just goes in and just re reignizing charges that heart that's what prayer does prayer gives you that where that strength where you could walk out of the prayer closet or out of your bedroom and you say you know what man i had some good time with jesus man i had some good time man we were talking in and you know what god was starting to reveal these things see in those 24 hours god says look i want to be your daily bread i don't want you to store everything up on a sunday and think that it's going to carry you throughout the week you need a daily bread you need a a daily uh encounter with god it could be just worshiping god in your car it could be just listening to some old cds but you have a connection and you're mindful and you're saying you know what jesus my mind is on you i never know with this backstreet boy microphone that [Laughter] see paul warned us like i said in galatians 6 he said let us not grow worry he says in doing everything that you're doing he says don't don't let weariness come upon you jeremiah 31 25 said this he said i will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint how many know where we could have those moments where you say you know what god thank you jesus man you could have a bad afternoon a bad morning but man if you're mindful and you just keep pressing in and keep pressing in and then you just say you know what god thank you thank you you know you just sit down and just shut the lights off man and just put the fan on and just put some worship music on and just just start to meditate meditate on the lord the third thing is to cast your cares on jesus cast your cares on jesus see god did not design you and i to carry the burdens of worry anxieties and become overloaded and lose your victory first peter 5 7 says this he says commands us to cast all your cares upon him for he cares about you see cast means to violently throw amen how many here had had all your clothes cast out of the house this picture that that peter is giving he says to cast all your cares he's saying look throw all your cares to the feet of jesus because he cares for you you see the understanding is is often times we feel like man we don't want to bother god with these mediocre problems that we're going through look at jesus wants to know every bit about you jesus wants to know the good things the bad things anything that is troubling you is is mindful to god he sees you he watches you when you sleep he sees every step that you make how many ever had those moments man where you know it was a god man god was looking out for you god was looking out for you that that that that car didn't swipe you or that that bullet missed you or you know what that that hot shot didn't get you bamboo the g whatever plans and assignments that the devil had jesus didn't let it happen so you must understand that whatever you are burdened with with cares of the world god wants you to take the burden from you see oftentimes we carry it around too long we carry it over daily and daily we're like that little oxen man that they put that yolk upon us as a as as a calf and that's all it knows see some there's some yolks that have been placed upon us as children as as as young adults that you know what the enemy has told you look you will never ever don't even think about doing anything great for god because of where you come from from because of your background because of your speech impediment any of these issues that you might struggle with the devil has told you but let me tell you this he's a liar he's the father of all lives and when we start to understand that and just say you know what god your word is greater than what he says he's an imitator he cannot duplicate he can only imitate the fourth thing is to trust in the lord proverbs 3 5 says to trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding see trusting the lord means that you give up worry reasoning and anxiety and you choose to enter into his rest by faith how many know before we came to the lord faith was a struggle for some of us we didn't see it we couldn't touch it we couldn't you know we we couldn't smell it we couldn't taste it see those are the senses that we're so used to if it's tangible i could see this but when god tells you to take a step when you can't see the rest of the stairwell that's faith where you say you know what god i'm going to walk in faith lord i i don't know what's going to happen but i know that you're not going to let me go out there on you know unprotected i'm going to take that step and you're saying you know what lord i'm going to do it man they asked me to put together a bible study and man i am going through all kinds of changes in my mind in my head my body everything i'm feeling anxiety i got a stomach pain i got all these things going on with me physically but man if you said i could do it i'm going to do it i'm going to take that step of faith you trust in the lord see the main reason life remains hard for many and we don't find rest is because we fail to truly trust in god we say we do when we came to salvation we had to believe who he was we believed in our heart we confessed with our mouth and we had salvation but when god starts to challenge us to grow when god starts to challenge us to leave things to let go of things but god i had this for a long time and you want me to just give it now if you give it he'll give you something better and there's peace with it another sign that an individual is troubled in heart is they lose their hunger on hospice some of the signs that they look for in an individual that is coming to the end is that they are no longer hungry they lose their appetite in the spiritual christians they start to lose their hunger for god proverbs 18 15 says this the spiritually hungry are always ready to learn more for their hearts are eager to discover new truths that's the one of the versions you might have another difference it's important that you stay hungry the way you stay hungry is you look at the menu you look at the menu and all the promises that god has for you all the promises that he has for you are right here same promises for me are the same promises for you so it's important that you stay hungry see god's word is the fuel for your soul how many here have all have feasted on junk food and regretted it i mean your day was so busy man and you said you know you want to do healthy you want to do good but man you know what that sushi at 7-eleven does not look so bad right you know and then you ask the dumb question like how long has that hot dog been spinning on that thing right there and you're like you don't want to do it but you're so hungry that you do it and and you regret it see when you spend more time feasting on nonsense you take away what god is trying to give you he's trying to feed your soul he's trying to give you something that will help you grow something that will will be beneficial to you when a person loses their appetite the heart is troubled and becomes weakened and it lacks strength one of the questions that they will ask you on an exam is is are you eating and drinking are you able to eat food and and and take liquids because that slows down the heart if you're not taking these things in that will thicken your blood and there's no circulation throughout your body and the heart starts to get weakened and it starts to slow and then and then when an individual stands up they feel dizzy because the heart is having a hard time pumping the blood to the brain in the spiritual you are not taking in the word you are not feeding yourself and you are struggling in your walk you become lethargic you become disoriented you start to question things you start to see things and you start to un and try to determine like is that god or is that the enemy talking to me see when you get when you study the truth when counterfeit in it tries to come in and creep in you're able to interpret that you're able to interpret that five ways real quick to feed on god's word first is hear it romans 10 17. so faith comes by hearing and hearing through the word of god the second thing is to read it matthew 19 4. study it ezra 7 10 write these scriptures down and study them for yourselves fourth thing is to memorize it psalms 1 19 11 i have stored up your word in my heart that i might not sin against you and the fifth thing is to meditate on it psalms 1 2 he says but in his delight and in his law of the lord and on his law he meditates day and night see believers need to stop feasting on junk food things that do not benefit you in your walk i'll let god do that and give you a picture of what you need to cut out in your life see if we start removing those things from our life we have more time to spend with god we have more time to meditate we have more time to build up the inner man the inner woman of god and then to stop dealing with the things that bother us things that trip us up things that that we struggle with but it first starts with coming to jesus they did a survey they asked how many people in the church now this is all churches not christian churches only but this is all churches throughout america what percentage of people have an actual relationship with god based off of what the bible tells us to you'd be surprised that the percentages were in the 30s see people feel good when they come to church i did i always felt like man i checked something off for the week man and i'm okay i could do anything i want the rest of the week man but i got that out of the way i'm good god he's keeping track but see god don't want weekend visits he doesn't want it he wants full custody he wants to be everything to you if he's not everything to you you're selling yourself short you're missing out see i could taste you i could tell you how good this tastes but the bible says taste and see that the lord is good i could tell you how wonderful that is how beautiful that water is but lest you dip your feet in and and just be consumed by it you will not know just based off of what i tell you see god wants to have that personal experience with you tonight i believe that there
