[Music] kilo is home to some of Japan's best cafes and I'm going to take you along to eight of them today let's get going one of my favorite cafes in kto is called kurasu and it's right next to kto station it's only about a 5 minute walk and it's a really small place right next to a 7-Eleven and it offers really cool coffee options because this is a matcha espresso latte so the first layer here is is some espresso then we have milk and then matcha and so I'm going to mix it and show you and I think they pioneered this yeah and I get it every time I come but their L lates are also really really tasty and I often buy a beans from here this is so good the balance between like the really bitter espresso and matcha as well as like the creamy milk just really unique also the aesthetic of this store is so nice they have really nice open Windows they have a lot of wood and it's got a bit of a standing space as well so you can just hang out here and chat with friends and the brist are really friendly it's also really good for people watching cuz you can look out the window and I'll always see lots of people carrying their suitcases coming down this is a must visit when you're near Kyoto station and there's also another one in downtown Kyoto towards like Karachi area area um I think it EBY sugwa so that's another great uh location that kassu has one cool thing I saw here was iced coffee on tap which isn't too common in Japan and if you're here check out the items they sell some cool things but this place this was the other kurasu location which had a coffee bean vending machine how awesome is that [Music] another Cafe I want to introduce is asria coffee and it's only about a 15 to 20 minute walk from kelter station and they're known for making really beautiful lates a beautiful latte art this is my second time visiting and I'm just always so impressed the art is just so incredible and they also offer flat whites so it's more Aussie style I'm going to give my latte a go that is so smooth I feel like getting a smooth latte like this in Tokyo is a lot harder I find it everywhere in Kil this this so smooth and they also have hot sandwiches so I got a toasted cheese [Music] one I was so hungry and for both of these I only paid 950 Y which is super [Music] affordable I like that this isn't like a quiet part of K and when I visited it's late in the afternoon but there's no one else here almost so I've got the place to myself and I have a really once again a nice big Clear Window where I can people watch and just relax also there are lots of plants here so it feels very cozy and I love it it's a very chill [Music] gu I love just relaxing at these cafes and taking in the local environment looking at the architecture of Kor is just so nice while you're walking around kyto just keep your eyes peeled because there are so many cafes everywhere so you'll walk down a small side street bam another Cafe so keep your Google Maps open and push that coffee button cuz there's going to be so much literally hiding and that's how I discover a lot of My Places just walking around and casually finding them and I always favorite them so that when I come back on another trip I can head there so even on this walk that I'm doing from the next Cafe from one Cafe to the next I've already found a bunch of other places I'm going to come back to I'm always here for work and I always love checking out new places but I have a few favorites I'm consistently going to which are the ones I'm kind of showing you today this place is just so big on cafes it's a heaven for coffee lovers welcome to weekend's coffee this place is in the middle of downtown Kor and it's actually only open on Saturdays and Sundays and I've introduced this previously but it's one of my favorites and I keep coming back here because the atmosphere of this Cafe is unlike anywhere else I've ever been to you're basically in between a bunch of machia which are old style Japanese um houses and they've been renovated so inside is quite modern but you're sitting outside in this kind of Courtyard and there's tons of of nature there's green moss they've also got autumn leaves in the Autumn season and we've got stones on the ground and the seats are quite unusual because they do have benches but then you can also sit on like the Rocks here um and plus where you actually place your coffee and so I've ordered myself a oat milk latte and apparently oat milk helps to bring out the flavor of coffee according to my friend Joe who told me that recently so I'm giving it a go so I've been here before and ordered a milk latte which definitely didn't taste quite as strong as this I feel like oat milk is a stronger espresso flavor so if you're looking for a big strong coffee hit in the morning I'd probably go for oat milk I'm very new to the oat milk scene but it's very popular in Kil I've seen it had a lot of cafes as well as Tokyo too the atmosphere is just so peaceful I love it so much except it can get quite busy because obviously it's so stunning a lot of people want to come here so in the mornings unless you come really early I'd imagine a lot of people want to just walk by and get their coffee hit this place is also located in one more area that is open I believe most days of the week if not every day and I haven't been to that one yet so I always come to The Roaster and because it's Saturday and Sunday only I'm always trying to like squeeze it into my plans or maybe even stay a day longer just to come by here and right next door there's also a Tea Bar where you can get cocktails with infused Japanese green tea and I highly highly highly recommend it I made some Japanese friends and they've offered me to try the flat white which is apparently on The Bu menu which is like the secret menu smoo this is really smooth thank you thank you I recommend and Wen w Wen ah it looks good it looks really really good wow my friends and k k oh your friend runs yeah oh very cool wow you look like you know a good spots this is school bus coffee kilor and this is the location that just opened last year which has a bakery inside and this is a really popular place place here that has a really stylish interior and it's where all the locals come honestly this is such a local spot but they have a really amazing Coffee menu and they do flat whites so it's very popular with Australians too like myself and I ordered myself a flat white and the Barista did a really really nice latte art on here so time to enjoy my first sip of the day this is the first coffee of the day Ah that's really smooth what I always love that first espresso drink of the day and because this place has a bakery too I couldn't resist getting some nice baked goods and they had vegan options as well this is a vegan friendly baguette and I also got a vegan friendly tomato herb bread bread roll I believe there's tomato inside here and they also have Bagels as well as croissant and sweets so there's lots of stuff that everyone um yeah and it's a really really nice interior here like they've got nice couches where you can relax you have like magazines you got really good music playing and the Baristas once again are all English friendly and all really [Music] nice in Japan it's quite difficult to find cafes with good coffee that have western style bread so this is a really good place especially if you just want to have like a morning breakfast and for everything here I paid about 1,200 ADM so it's within budget for sure this is a really good bagette this is really really good if you pay an extra 30 Yen you can also get butter on the side but they won't post it one interesting thing about this Cafe is that all of the Interior is done to like suit an American school bus and being Australian I've never ridden an American school bus but it has that yellow you know bright yellow EX IA um so there's really cute design elements in here and even the logo here is literally the school bus if you didn't know Japan has a real big obsession with America so a lot of cafes here will be inspired by America and there's not just cafes but restaurants so there's a lot of America core culture here which which if you don't come from America a lot of it is still foreign but I think for Americans it's probably amusing seeing what parts Japan takes and makes their own it's time to try this tomato bread I very curious to what is inside it tastes almost like sundried tomatoes yeah I like them though it's really um Tangy once again another nice thing about this Cafe is there's a nice big glass window and you can people watch I feel like that's a common theme for all the cafes I'm going to just like big large spaces big windows with nice natural light yeah I do like the SOA seats although it's just a bit awkward if you're by yourself in a big group it would be really nice to clean a seat on there and just relax cuz they have lots of local Killa magazines here you can check out and enjoy and probably discover other cafes that [Music] way a really great breakfast spot here at Milda is I like Cy Roasters this is my second time visiting and it's got a really cozy interior it's all wood it's a very Japanese style feeling to it and it's actually run by a couple and they roast their own beans in house and they specialize in drip coffee but they also offer espresso and it's very Aussie inspired because they have flat white I even saw some lamingtons and there was a match of one I'm going to take my first sip of coffee this is my first one of the day so so so tasty and they also speak really really good English here by the way and one thing thing that is really popular at Katan as well as cafes here in Japan is something called piz toast and if you've never heard of it it's like a really really thick cut of bread like really thick and essentially they'll put cheese on top as well as tomato paste the kind of tomato you'll put on like um pizza and they'll also put like onion or salami and I got just like a normal cheese one without salami which they can remove it's not on the menu so you can just ask cuz it's made fresh and it's put inside the baluda toaster and if you've never heard of muda it's a really expensive toaster that's meant to make toast taste really good look at that cheese oh my gosh this is so cheesy it's really sweet actually the tomato paste as well as the onion and the bread is just so fresh and soft it's like foamy like so it's like a cloud the onion and this is so tasty I highly recommend this I actually got here about 5 minutes before it opened and there was already a bit of a queue foring and the moment the doors open a bunch of people came in so I could imagine on the weekends this place is very busy luckily my hotel was nearby so I could just pop by yeah this is a really good find it's a Hidden Gem for sure I also want to mention the ceramics that they're using this pink cup is just so adorable and it's really easy to hold I really really like it this is the kind of thing I like to to bring home as well souvenirs from CA because a lot of Japanese pottery is just so incredible yeah it really adds to the atmosphere of the cafe dining experience as well I'm having a proper look at the menu now and their menu for drip coffee is just so extensive there are so many different beans available and they're also selling their own beans here that they're roasted inh house so you can take them home with you as a souvenir I also read online that there are a couple who run this place but the wife bakes all the goods and the husband roasts all the beans so it's a really good power combination I waited too long on the lamington and there was only one today but it's a good reason to come back cuz now I'm very curious what a mcho lamington tastes like and I was just chatting to the owner of the store and apparently she lived in um Brisbane and that's where she learned probably about Cafe culture and English and the husband just learned English through his business so yeah they're very friendly and I've read tons of Google reviews that they're just always really welcoming so if you're looking for a good place in kilor be sure to check it out at the front of the coffee store here they actually have a tasting section and today they have Ethiopia as well as Colombia and I don't usually take drip coffee but I'm going to give it a go this is supposedly the city roast with a red honey undertone it's actually quite easy to drink I love having drip coffee at a special store they're able to make it in a way that I can actually enjoy it because a lot of the time it's just too bitter for me but I do like it when it's fruity and there's one more I want to try here the columia so so the Colombia is the fruer one oh yeah this is really fruity this is super easy to drink it's like a little shot [Music] glass really popular coffee chain here in Japan and is blue bottle and although it's not Japanese originally it's from San Francisco in America and there are so many locations now throughout Japan and something unique about the ones here in Japan are that they have a really nice design they really fit into the urban lifestyle of each neighborhood that they open their stores in and so this location is in doaku in kyto it's blue bottle kyto doaku and it's right around the corner from a really stunning temple with sakura trees that kind of hang down and I ordered myself not a coffee today but a hot chocolate because I've had a lot of coffee so far in this video and it's time to shake things up and blue but actually specializes in a lot of drinks this is my first time trying their hot chocolate wow that's a really rich creamy hot chocolate I asked for it less sweet because I prefer it when drinks aren't too overly sweet and this is definitely using fresh chocolate like real chocolate it's very very rich this location here is so stunning it's basically inside an old Japanese household feels like that anyhow and we've got these nice Japanese style Windows made of wood and I've got a great view once again clear windows and there's so much happening this is a busy street there's cars going by there's bikes there's people walking and so there's a lot to just look at and enjoy the view this feels very much like Kil so if you're coming to Kil and you want to exper a cafe that let you kind of embrace that local atmosphere this is the place Blue Bottle has a very much cult following here in Japan so no matter which location you go to expect it to be busy lots of lines I happen to come in and secure the best seat right next to the window and I can see the Baristas working away and this is the second floor downstairs is where you order yeah it was very lucky the moment I came in a huge crowd of people came and they had to basically turn them away you could only get takeaway I also picked up this little map it's cute it's like blue bottle themed I guess they created it and it's like a walking map of kilor I don't know what's inside it's only in Japanese but it seems to just be a central town map and they've put in a few spots that they recommend of course the other blue bottles the only other Blue Bottle i' been to in kto was uh nanzenji nanzenji blue bottle in the Autumn is it's so so so so so so so pretty it's got all the red leaves it's got a really nice exterior and interior it's one of my favorite blue bottles in Japan if not my favorite but this is a close secer I'd love to come here early in the morning when no one's around and just kind of sit here with a book and read that' be a very nice experience [Music] welcome to Sasa Mishi gy one of my favorite cafes here in Kil it is actually an old bath house that used to be used in the '90s I believe for like 60 to 70 years and then in 2000 they renovated it into a cafe you can actually see the remains of the original wall and the mural at the back of the cafe it's really really unique and it's a fun place to just dine and relax it's a very cozy atmosphere I want you guys to check out the menu it's all handdrawn and it is so so adorable like look at this this is such a typical Japanese thing and I love it and because it's so retro they offer typical drinks that you find at K which is this melon soda float this is not melon soda this is blue melon soda I think or blue flavored lemonade and it is so cute like look at this they've got the little um Sweet Cherry we've got ice cream and then of course we have some blue coloring as well as lemonade I only get it very occasionally so it's a little bit of a treat and last time I came here in the summer the perfect summer drink and I'm feeling very nostalgic so I decided to go for it again M yum that's so creamy I got to mix it a bit cuz all the flavoring is at the bottom M if you have a sweet too I highly recommend getting this they have different colors as well they had a red one a green one and I think a yellow one as well the reason I know about this Cafe is originally there was this really popular film when I studied abroad called and it's a really important film to me I really have good memories with it but this Cafe was featured in it and the protagonists they were sitting at this table having like a date and so I remember it very clearly and I almost never get to sit here because it's a very popular spot it's right by the window and today it happened to be free so I snatched it up and I'm just reminiscing because this area holds so many memories so this is Cafe I think they embraced the local art H tret as well as Cinema because every time you come here they've got plenty of movie posters plased on the wall and they also have the most recent emerstone one I can see I haven't seen it I think it was Birds can't quite remember the name but there's tons of posters everywhere and it's just really fun to just look around and take in all of the posters everywhere right behind me is actually a manga shelf where you can just pull out a book and read it at your leisure so I might do that for example they have this book called shirokuma Cafe and I remember maybe six seven years ago this was so popular it was like an anime as well and it's just about this polar bear who like runs a cafe maybe I'll read this little it's like a bunch of [Music] animals they also had some more magazines up the back and this is my favorite thing to pick up whenever I'm in a CA when you're in cafes in Japan be sure to look out for them magazines and so these aren't just any magazines these are Cafe ones and Japan is so big on cafes that they'll have so many different Publishers and magazines dedicated to just introducing new old trending all kinds of cafes and this is one from 2024 so very very recent and this is a more older looking one I guess it's been very used at least and this is just focused on like old style like old house Mach style houses in K and I probably would want to buy this book this is my favorite type of cafe and that's why Toyo doesn't give me the same satisfaction as killo because I just love [Music] machio this Cafe also offers lots of hot drinks as well as coffee but I decided to go with a chai latte as well to warm up I'm a little chilly after my cream soda [Music] no Cafe guide to kila is complete without Cafe bibl hello and I've been coming here since 2016 because it is a really really really Cozy Cafe and I think this is one of the places that made me fall in love with Cafe culture here in kto and they serve all kinds of food and drink but they also have coffee wine alcohol and they do really really good fruit tarts I came here the other night and got a musk melon fruit tart so tasty and today I've opted for a soy cafe latte and it's very foamy I don't think I've ever got it here before very strong I feel like when there's a soy drink it's like way more intense the espresso flavor this place also has an upstairs and there's tons of books you can look at and read and my favorite seat is definitely by the window because it has all these beautiful like green plants and when it rains this place is such a mood there's also a Saka right in front of me it's so pretty so I guess every season they must be changing it and one of the great things about this place is they actually open in the evening so it's like a yodu cafe which is a night Cafe and that's a concept that was totally foreign to me until I lived here so going in the evening to such a Cozy Cafe is just so so so nice I don't know they open till 11:00 [Music] p.m. if you come here wanting to eat I highly recommend the geneves pasta it's so good and they put potatoes inside which is very new to me but every time I come here I get it I got it last night when I came with a friend so tasty if you come here make sure to bring enough cash because it's cash only and I managed to squeeze in another orange juice freshly squeezed pun not intended otherwise I would get a salad as well but have to be next time yeah I always run out of cash when I'm in killo it's like a tradition of [Music] mine my orange juice is here I really need this I've been having really bad allergies with the cherry blossom season so getting some vitamin C this is exactly what I wanted and finding freshly squeezed juice in pan at CAF is not too common so I'm always very keen to order it once I see it on the menu I got to be careful I'm going to finish this in like one big sip so there you have it some of my favorite cafes in kilor like And subscribe for more content like this and I'll see you in another video bye
