oh man how exciting the thing everybody thought would happen happened but not that legends thing that is another great baby step in the right direction open world and active catching and battling instead open world did they just borrow the engine from breath of the wild no no no this is not just another let's look at the trailer together video because there are already 3.2 billion of those now i want to answer the question when is pokemon legends rks based turns out it's more recent than people think there are a few things to consider here both in terms of in-universe lore and real-world history and these two things may actually be in a bit of a conflict with one another as you'll see towards the end they say the game takes place so long ago that the sino region's landscape is vastly different that sentence may just be to cover their butts to explain why it's an open world instead of just linear routes everywhere but maybe some big event did happen that changed the landscape we don't know that yet but we do know that the pokeballs are totally different looking at them the bottom appears to be made of wood and they seem to latch open and closed rather than the modern button style we also see a puff of steam come out of the top of the poke ball when a pokemon is caught that steam of course makes me think industrial revolution but just how accurate would that time period be well we know thanks to the fourth pokemon movie which came out in 2001 that professor oak is around 50. and when he was a kid pokeballs had a twisty cap on top rather than the just the button and this though would be around the 1960s and that appears to be made out of the more modern material likely metal so this is too recent online i see a lot of feudal japan being thrown around likely because of the outfits and the buildings but let's define feudal japan feudalism in japan was from 1185 to 1603 that's medieval and would put us in the time when maghirna and spirit tomb were new spirit tomb is a gen 4 pokemon after all though so maybe there's something there and magirna is supposedly what pokeballs are based on and looking closer magirna doesn't actually have the button in the middle rather it's this shield kind of shape perhaps not unlike the latch we see on these old pokeballs problem though that time period is way too early the steam-powered pokeball and this that's a glass lantern likely using kerosene this puts us as early as the 1850s but is this scene that we're seeing here from the same time as the game or is this some historian going through an old book and looking at old pokeballs that could be the case but then why is said historian still using a paintbrush and ink stone seemingly filling out this book that we see actively being filled out in the trailer later at the same time though see here those look like modern mass-produced textbooks when did this style of book come out well the industrial revolution which also brought us this style of lantern they were invented in the 18th century and by the 19th century these kinds of books were being produced faster than ever but what about in japan we know sinnoh is based on hokkaido the northernmost big island in japan and that the industrial revolution didn't reach japan until 1868 and 1890. this is kind of spot on i feel the thing that got me to think it was more modern than feudal japan was not only the fact that we see actual pokeballs being used rather than the pokelantis capture artifacts or the old medieval staff remember the lucario movie flashbacks to the medieval time period basically no pokemon were in pokeballs and the few that were captured were either physically captured or were caught in a magic crystal staff so this game has to be more recent than that but other than all that there's also the boys hat we know that it's probably based on lucas's hat which is a beret but they added a brim to it why would they add a brim to it this looks way too modern to be feudal japan in fact this style of hat with the brim and all is from 1886 to the 1950s the style came about in europe in the 1850s it was popularized by the early 60s and reached japan in the 1880s eventually it became a mandated every boy must wear this especially in school in the late 1880s speaking of school and headwear girls in japan were not allowed to attend school until 1899. perhaps this puts an end cap to our possible date as the girl is wearing a common peasant headdress a simple head scarf on top of the head for doing chores these were used for centuries and still are today typically it's a symbol of i am a busy woman doing household chores but now how about the rest of their outfits their boots are forgive my pronunciations in this video i just woke up fukugutsu boots made from woven barley straw designed to keep out moisture and cold when walking in snow remember hokkaido and the sinnoh region based on it are very cold regions so this is perfect but the bottom seemed to be perfectly flat so it could actually be a different form of sandal like the warazori a much more firm sandal these were mostly used in the late edo period the 1600s and the 1870s though some would continue using these for decades however depending on their wealth the industrial revolution brought better shoes with it but at first only the wealthy could afford them the boy character's jacket seems to be a haunted a common japanese jacket that they would wear to stave off the cold it too was brought about in the edo period but is still considered traditional wear today then the girl's jacket is a bit different it almost looks like a heyori another jacket however it was normally worn over your kimono which her design seems to also incorporate a bit into its overall look this seems to be a weird mix of the kimono and a jacket unless she even has an obi the boy's pants seem to be tatsuke akama honestly the whole outfit for the boy seems to be a nice cold weather ninja outfit both of them really no really look at the shinobi shiozoku it even has the black arm sleeves and then the scarf that's like literally greninja's tongue scarf we're going full strider here and we do see in the trailer them sneaking up on pokemon and doing dodge rolls those are very ninja things and it turns out this is absolutely perfect for the supposed date range we have so far the 1880s and 1890s these were the decades where the shinobi became a topic of mystery and intrigue as a consequence their perception in popular culture then was based more on legends and folklore rather than on the actual covert actors of the sengoku period but for comparison it's sort of like the fascination with the victorian time period we had in the west we started romanticizing what the time period was all about and then that became a big part of pop culture which then influenced modern things at the time it became a sort of general headspace that oh the victorian era that was cool it was like that but for the shinobi and it started influencing real world things such as architecture speaking of the town we see those are tile roofs modern roofing was unavailable to most of japan due to their lack of oil until much much later into the industrial revolution but also going back far enough into the ido period commoner buildings were mostly using thatch roofs unless they were rich that puts this town again in a more middling time period such as around the industrial revolution when tile roofing became much more common because more people could afford it and besides look at the area where you get your starters oh wait that's that's the desk from earlier with with the more modern books on top it's the same style desk too so that means that scene is from the same time as the game but anyway this building doesn't look medieval japan at all much more late 19th century especially considering the carpet carpet was considered incredible fancy in fact one of the first japanese ambassadors to europe in 1862 said he was most impressed with how the hotel had carpet everywhere and that tin cans were considered garbage remember japan at that time was still pre-industrial revolution so metal to them was precious to the point where whenever a building would burn down people would be digging through the rubble looking for the bolts and screws over in europe though two cans garbage and look at our carpets we walk on them with our shoes because like it's just a carpet over in japan though oh my gosh it's a carpet i can't even put my feet on that and actually the 1860s through the 1910s that was the time period japan started getting involved with the western world and embassies started being built a foreign embassy would bring some of their fancy carpet into their building wouldn't they and the old timey desk and the flags this looks a lot like an embassy or at least an embassy styled building that would explain all of the starter pokemon not being from sinnoh also ambassadors often travel all over the place and so i think we've got ourselves a time period the meiji period the one right after the ido period and being that this takes place in sinnoh thus hokkaido that does put us right where a major historical event took place the meiji restoration a japanese civil war took place here known as the war sometimes referred to as the japanese revolution the victorious imperial faction abandoned its objective of expelling foreigners from japan and instead adopted a policy of continued modernization with an eye to eventual renegotiation of the unequal treaties with the western powers it's when japan sort of rebuilt itself both literally from the damage of the war and figuratively by beginning their own industrial revolution and thus becoming more a part of the world as a whole rather than being isolationist it's a time period where the technology in the region rapidly advanced suddenly jumping to catch up with the rest of the world and this technology at the time of course was steam based it was a time period where embassies and ambassadors were becoming commonplace it was the time period where these hats were in style and buildings just started to modernize like this it was a time period of great biological research and scientific advancement like what the professor wants you to do in this game and it was a time period where the sengoku and ito periods were becoming romanticized in pop culture pokemon legends archaeos takes place in the meiji period [Music] or at least is inspired by it this is where things get tricky the pokemon timeline is not a direct reflection of our own i mean ash is still 10 but also technology has advanced further in pokemon than it has in our own world and megirna was invented 500 years ago and even begeerna seems more advanced than what we could do it's a world of magical creatures after all and magical creatures clearly would have an impact on scientific advancement and so pokemon legends rks could very well take place 500 years ago or heck maybe even a thousand years ago the actual date may not matter for our purposes here today though i am confident when i say that the sinnoh region of pokemon legends archaeas is inspired by hokkaido in the 1880s and 90s the meiji period it could be post-war or it could be just before the war and what they will do to reflect the war that changed everything is something that has to do with reshaping all the whole suno region perhaps we will see why giratina was banished and the banishing of iratina caused the sinner region to like reshape itself because of crazy stuff maybe that is a thing that will happen and that is why cino is different between this game and diamond and pearl but what do you think what other evidence is there let me know down below and be sure to check out my next video which is also coming out today it's sexy and never stop using your noggin or going to noggin.net because we just released a plush of
