Shalom and welcome to via after Israel a Hebrew phrase which means you shall love Israel we hope you'll stay with us for the next 30 minutes as our teacher dr. Baruch shares his expose Ettore teaching from the Bible dr. Baruch is the senior lecturer at the Sarah Avraham Institute based in Israel although all courses are taught in Hebrew at the Institute dr. Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel you are G that's one word love Israel o RG now here's Baruch with today's lesson there is a big difference between tempting someone to do something wrong and having your faith tested god never tempts encourages or put someone in a situation with the intent that they are tempted to do sin God is never part of anything that is sinful but at times to grow us mature us and because we are called to bear witness of our faith God allows us he may actually put us into a situation when our faith will be tested in order that we understand where we are spiritually and perhaps a greater reason is so that we can act faithfully and accomplish the will of God provide a godly witness to someone else and this is exactly what God called a king by the name of a 'has or a has to do to trust him to respond faithfully and God gave him a great promise that he could seek a test himself to see if really God was in this situation that God was going to be able to to overcome the enemy overcome the situation that a has found himself within with that said to get your Bible and look with me to the Book of Isaiah in Chapter 7 the Book of Isaiah in Chapter 7 now of course this chapter has a great prophecy within it and we're going to god-willing conclude this study of this first part of chapter 7 with this wonderful well known prophecy concerning the birth of Messiah a miraculous conception in order that Messiah who is miraculous himself will enter into this world in order that we can receive miracles from him now the way that Messiah that he was conceived in a woman all of this shows that God is great and greatly to be praised now in verse 1 we see what the problem is look with me to that first verse Isaiah 7 and verse 1 it came about in the days of 'has that is a has in English the son of Yotam the son of a yahoo the king of Judah so now specifically the emphasis is on this southern kingdom called Judah and obviously we all know that the key city in Judah is the holy city Jerusalem remember that as we press on so he this man a has was the king of Judah and those would happen or it seen the king of Aram that is Syria in this period of time his name was writ seen we had seen the king of Aram or Syria and fake Hawk the son ramaa yahoo the king of israel what did they do they went up to Jerusalem as one army and they went to Jerusalem to to war to make war against it in the Hebrew against her as City is a feminine now so we have something we have for the most part ten tribes now we need to remember everyone speaks about ten tribes we'll have to be careful I want to be accurate there's nine tribes in the northern kingdom two tribes in the southern and then that 12th tribe the tribe of Levites they were scattered throughout all of the kingdom both the northern kingdom and the southern kingdom now obviously there were nor more in the north but never less I want to make this point just think the northern kingdom was much more populated they had greater resources and now there was an alliance with the king of Aram and together they came as one army to make war against a hoss in Judah specifically and the commentators say to lay siege against this place and notice what what is said here look at the end of verse one Vail oh yeah holy lock em alaihe a miracle they came they were stronger they were more numerous they had greater wealth they came with an intent to war against Jerusalem but notice what it says and it was not evil this Empire was not able to fight against her against Jerusalem why very simply God said no now when God allows something here again he may not be the but if God allows something there's a purpose for it and if God allows something we can be assured that his provision and his means for victory will be available to us and notice what happens here look at verse 2 and it was said - and I would underscore this next phrase it was told to the house of David now this is an important term it is a prophetic term it is synonymous so say the sages of Judah and Judah Judaism that this term bet Davi the house of David is a messianic term it speaks of those who believe in that messianic promise and what is that messianic promise Redemption if there's Redemption there's a redeemer so this was someone when it's being addressed here it was told to the house of David this is something for those who have faith in the promises of God so it was said to the house of David saying Haram has and the work here is a word Naha usually has a variety of different meanings but when you check for example Rosh in his commentator commentary he says it means to lay Lahab air to join together to form an alliance and that's exactly and we know this what has happened it says that aram has joined with a frien if ryeom is one of the names for that Northern Kingdom normally we think of it as Israel but it's also called Ephraim so this simply tells us what we have already learned but it's being reported now in Judah the was made the Confederacy had already been established but those in Judah those specifically in Jerusalem they weren't aware of it but now in verse 2 they were told about this Confederacy that Baram had joined with a frien and when that happened notice the next part of verse 2 and his heart that is King Ahaz is part his heart shook and the heart of his people as a tree or as trees and the fourth shake because of the wind so there is fear and terror in Jerusalem in Jenin Judah Judea because of of this coming war they know that they're outnumbered they know that that the power in a natural sense is with this Confederacy that is coming for war and that is for destruction but look at verse 3 and the Lord said to Yeshayahu that is Isaiah now I say yes Yahoo because there's meaning of that Yeshe Yahoo means the God who is salvation that God is going to save him save his people so the Lord spoke to Isaiah and he says go out and meet a house and you and your son sha are your shoes remember that name sha are your shoes now names and hebrew has meaning and the name sha r is derived from the hebrew word for a remnant and the word excuse me the word cha R means remanent the word yes chief as it's spoken of here sha our yeshu --the sheshu means to return so it speaks about a remnant returning and what is this a reference to well remember what we're speaking about we're speaking about a promise a redemptive promise and part of this redemptive promise is that there's going to be a remnant that returns back to the land in order for the establishment of the kingdom so Isaiah son's name speaks about restoration it speaks about a future future reality of redemption now I would suggest to you that that this gives this seventh chapter a a a context that's different from the days of Isaiah the day of King Ahaz and such it gives us a hint of a future a messianic fulfillment within this seventh chapter by that name sha are you shoes that a remnant will return and it says here remember the context God speaks to Isaiah and he says you go out to meet a has you and your son shower your shoe to the end of the the canal of the pool the upper pool which is in the the the road called sedae Kovas today is filled the word Kobus is washing and traditionally the sages of Judea says this is where the people would go out and have their clothes washed now this is important most of the time we just just keep reading right past that we don't think of of what's the significance of this but it is important because clean clothes speaks about good deeds good deeds are the outcome of faith that's what we see throughout the scripture faith if it's functioning it has good deeds good works faith that isn't functioning faith is dead has no works now it's not our works that save us but our faith causes good works and testifies to our salvation I hope that that is just so common to you when you hear these things so there's great great revelation and the fact that we see here Isaiah meeting King Ahaz Ahaz in this location because it speaks about a change a garment a new identity God is wanting to bring change to a has and we need to remember that because that's exactly what the context is gonna tell us look at verse 4 remember the last thing that we're told about King Ahaz is that his heart is shaking with fear because of the the imminency of war the enemy is coming against judah they are going to attack jerusalem and who's responsible this man he and all the people are terrified verse 4 isaiah he goes forth this prophet of the Lord with instructions with revelation now he's toad look at verse 4 God is speaking to Isaiah and he says you say to him the word is he Chimere kind of mean guard yourself take heed it is a word that can be relating to pay spiritual attention there is a message here that you need to to hold on to the junii to keep that you need to guard so he says keep yourself and be quiet do not fear and let not your heart be BES off now what he's saying here is that this is going to require and we saying Hebrew omens what's omens courage prophecy here's the key prophecy strengthens your heart prophecy causes you to have courage a heart that's full of courage to do faithfully the instruction of God and that's why I'm so concerned that when believers are ignorant unaware not studying prophecy they they will not show themself courageous in the last days or even in their current situation so he says don't allow your heart to be soft he says don't be weak in regard to these two ends of embers that are smoking now what he's talking about is these two men that we talked about in verse one we're talking about Racine and paycock these two men notice what they're called they're called the literal word is tails and what it speaks of if you have a a large coal and you put it in a fire and it burns for a while and it gets smaller and the word tale can mean the end of and these are not coals on fire but they're smoking the imagery here is they are going to be snuffed out they're going to be extinguished so God uses these terms in a very pointed manner and he says on account of the wrath the fierce anger of rats seen and and Aram the son of Rama Yahoo so he says they are are coming - they're in there is no reason to be fearful of these two individuals this Confederacy that is coming against you verse verse five because they have taken counsel against you Aram this evil one and a frien who is the son of Rami who saying so he says even though they have taken counsel they have discussed this they have reached agreement to come to to Jerusalem and make war their counsel has reached the conclusion its proper it's right that time is at hand to destroy Judah to unite the kingdom but not for the purposes of God remember Israel that northern kingdom called Ephraim is is taken over by idolatry they are worshipping false gods not the God of Israel so he says just because they've taken counsel against you remember don't be fearful take key be quite for they are coming too and in look now to verse 6 verse 6 tells us once we already know what the council is let us go up into Judah and let us trouble her and break through and this would imply break through the walls unto unto us and so that we can set another king in her myths and they already know who they want to make as king it says the son of tough L so they have a plan they've taken counsel we're gonna go to Judah we're gonna make war in Jerusalem we're going to defeat a house we're gonna put him to an end and we're gonna put the king that we want there who will be our puppet king to rule over that that kingdom and we will rule over all of Israel once more he's not doing it out of the instructions of God in fact he's taking a pagan nation to to help him calm this job verse seven now verse seven is where it gets good it's where God gives revelation to 2fs notice what he says Isaiah the prophet is speaking he says thus said the Lord God two things as I so frequently point out it's not thus says but thus said as though it's already happened and this speaks of the assurance of this prophecy it is though it's an already done thing it hasn't happened but from God's standpoint it's going to be and if God says it's going to be we should accept it no matter how futuristic it might be no matter how unlikely it may seem in our eyes believe the Word of God so God says here thus said the Lord God not just the Lord but the Lord God and he says you will not stand meaning this this this confederacy it's not gonna stand and it's not going to do this it shall not be so all the council that these two men the word recede and the name Pecha these two individuals and it's interesting word scene can be spoken about as desire these two men's desire it's not going to stand and it's not going to be God says simply no to that and he's giving prophetic revelation to a has to understand this look at verse verse eight why isn't this going to be for the head of Aram is Damascus and the head of Damascus is racine and he says when we look here see the the encouragement for the king of Israel to do this is the support he's getting from Damascus from the king there of Syria and that is this one and he's saying this is temporary because he says we're at sea he's not going to be successful he says in 65 more years it will be destroyed and fryin from a people meaning this in 65 more years the northern kingdom Ephraim Israel is not going to be it's going to be destroyed and it's no longer going to be a people a nation anymore now what's gonna happen from the time of this prophecy and this gives us a pinpoint for dating it because 65 years later would be approximately 721 722 BC so we hear that if it's 722 ad 65 years and it would be 787b see this is when this prophecy was given and that all makes sense with the the accounting of who was raining and such verse verse 9 and the head of a crime is sham roan or samaria and the head of sham roan is the son of Rama Yahoo so he's saying look at these individuals these are not individuals that are going to be successful they don't have leadership that is able to carry out their own desires these men are inadequate he says if you do not believe this and here's the problem remember this is all about faith we're speaking about a messianic promise and a messianic promise to take hold of it to receive and to receive the outcome of it it takes faith this is what Isaiah's revealing so it shouldn't surprise us that faith in the gospel of Messiah is required faith to please God is always required and he says here a low time minou if you will not believe kilo Tom Manu now it's a play on words but because of the grammatical change in the same word it means this if you don't believe you won't be established if you don't take heed to this with faith then your kingdom is not going to be established but notice what he does verse verse 10 this is what I like about this this passage because God knows that that faith just doesn't come natural for us it's supernatural and if we trust God he will grow he will build our faith a hash was not faithful but God wanted to work in his life and grow him into a faithful man how do I know that look now to verse verse 10 and the Lord added and spoke he continued to speak in other words to hahas this King Ahaz Saint verse 11 now this is great because notice God speaks and there's no limitations he says you know I know as you you have a problem with believing therefore I'm gonna help you believe first 11 God speaks to this king this faithless King and he says as for yourself oat now the Hebrew word oat Aleph Vava it's a sign and if you do a good study of this word it is something that is supernatural let me give an example it is use for for the signs that come from the Sun the Moon the Stars remember what it says in the book of Genesis on the fourth day God created the the Sun the moon and the stars and let them before signs for seasons and times and such only God can can make a star only God can make the moon and the Sun so it speaks about a divine act a supernatural act that only God can do so this puts a very interesting context to this passage it says that this is something that only God can do remember that word aute so he says ask for yourself a sign from the Lord your God and it can be deep in shale or it can be high up above now that is an idiom meaning you can ask whatever you want nothing is too great it can be something in the heavens or something even below the earth whatever you asked whatever you want to check this out so that you know what I'm telling you is true now wouldn't you love an opportunity like that an opportunity to say okay God you're calling me to believe you're calling me not to panic not to be fearful but to be a faithful man in front of the nation that I'm called to lead and now you're willing to give me a sign any any sign that I come up with that I want you to do you're willing to do it isn't that great but notice a has response first of all and ss I will not ask I will not test the Lord now this is not a word for tempting but testing it's a word for experience it's the same word that we get the Hebrew word misiĆ³n which is an experience and here's what he's saying a has doesn't want a godly experience in his life he does not want to respond enter get involved engaged as a word I was looking for engage in in this this conversation and activity with God why because he's an utterly faithless individual he does not want to even give an opportunity for God to manifest himself to him you know I love the song and that verse that says tests the Lord or taste the Lord and see us see if he's good now this tasting is just that taste it experience it taste test and you'll find that he's good open yourself up to the Lord you'll never regret doing so a has did not and I tell you that a has is regretting that even at this moment so he says I will not ask I will not test the Lord verse 13 now verse 13 is word gets very messianic because once again the second time God addresses someone who is he addressing not the people of Judah not the counsellors of of Ahaz look at verse 13 and he said listen o house of David this is the second time that phrase house of David and it's frequent with him for example the prophecy of Zechariah the house of David is a mess anok turn it speaks about those who believe in the Messianic promise so now we see that there's a second confirmation that this passage is Messianic David the son of David all of this is messianic the house of David is basically the congregation of the redeemed are you part of that do you believe in God have you accepted his gospel than you're part of the house of David in this context so he says listen o house of David is it too small a thing from you to two weary men that also you think you can work well where II got meaning this are are you so weak men are weak but God's not is it too light of thing too too too little of a thing too to weary men no is it too weary to - - or too little too weary got nothing makes God weak nothing where is God out so he's saying why won't you do this and therefore God does something look now to our last verse verse 14 this is this great Messianic prophecy and I want to talk a few minutes about it let's just read it look net10 I don't know who let him out therefore I don't I will give himself of himself is the the key he himself will give to you a sign so this is something that God himself it's from him that he is giving and it is and out remember that word another place that that word oute appears in the book of Genesis is when it placed a mark remember Cain killed Abel and a mark was placed upon the forehead of Cain that that no one could harm him kill him well can you put a mark on someone's head that that makes it impossible for someone to kill that person no it's always something that is so supernatural that it's only God can do so here's what I want you to see two times God has spoken about a miraculous sign and that's why the individuals that say wait a second this is just saying a young woman is going to conceive there's nothing miraculous about that because it's not just a young woman let's look at the texts there for the Lord he himself will give to you and it could be for you a sign behold not just a young woman it's ha ha not a young woman but the young woman now this is going to we're going to speak about this prophecy this week next week and into chapter 8 because we see that this prophecy is so important it begins here but it goes into chapter 8 and even into chapter 9 and there's even another messianic promise in chapter 11 and 12 in other words what is being set up here is a big deal prophetically and obviously I've already said to you it's a messianic prophecy now if we look at the word Alma Alma speaks of a young woman who is a virgin how do we know this well you go to our study of the book of Genesis you will find in the book of Genesis and chapter 24 in fact let's just go there very briefly look with me if you would to the book of Genesis and chapter 24 what do we see here well this is an important passage of Scripture when we find that that Avraham sends his trusted serve Eleazar to find a wife for yetsko Isaac and what we know here is this he finds rifka but notice what it says look with me if you would to Genesis 24 and look with me to verse 16 Genesis 24 verse 16 and the Nara Nara is a young woman says she was good in appearance very good and to love now the rabbi's will tell you batula means version not alma that is not correct and they know better let's just be honest they know better it's not a honest mistake why notice what it says that this good woman in appearance and such and it could be a parent's physically but also from a character standpoint she is a batula then it says they ish lo yada says a man has not known her now why is that important well it tells us if the word batula means virgin in the in the truest sense you don't need this phrase and a man has never known her we know that if she's a virgin we know that already but the word batula is a young woman who is perceived to thought to be a virgin but when we look at verse 43 we find this same story being retold and in Rebecca's poem to her her parents says behold I was standing upon the well of water and it came about that the ha Alma the virgin and she came out to draw the implication is to draw water now it doesn't say here with the word Alma that no man has known her here's a perfect example from hermeneutics that tells us the term batula is an assumed version but we have to be told a man never knew her but Alma what is an Alma Alma is a young woman who a man has never known we don't need that extra statement because it's implied and when we look in the scripture it speaks about just a young version but a young woman who is righteous so all of these things are in this this text let's go back to Isaiah chapter 7 and verse 14 therefore the Lord I don't I hear he himself will give for you a sign behold the Virgin will conceive and she will bear a son and call his name Emmanuel what's Emmanuel II mono is with us Elle is God so this one who is going to concede a version that's a pretty good oat it's a pretty good miraculous sign I mean no one else can cause a virgin to conceive simply by speaking simply by speaking that's what God did God pronounced that this version this righteous woman who has never known a man will conceive and give birth to a son and that this one who is going to be born is called Emmanuel God with us let me close this this lesson by by one more issue Redemption brings man to God and the key word here is a word aim with that's why the rabbi's teach that the name Emmanuel is the redemptive name of Messiah because it speaks of with us God that he God is with us through Redemption and who is a redeemer Messiah that's what he comes to do to cause humanity to be with him so when we look here we see that there's a sign something supernatural how the rabbi's understand this has nothing to do with that which is supernatural the context demands that it comes in a redemptive context and that it's for remember the Lord Himself he will give for you not just to you but for you this sign now we're gonna continue this same issue next week because we need to understand this prophecy how it was how it was carried out not just once but twice if that seems confusing to you God willing we'll clarify it next week but a vital prophecy so we understand the truth of how Messiah entered into this world and what the prophets what Isaiah said concerning Messiah how he was going to be born into this world by a virgin let me end with this if you dispel reject disbelief the virgin birth you're not saved now someone say wait a second that's rather harsh here's the reason why I say it if you deny the virgin birth you do not know who Yeshua is you need to know Yeshua's identity that he's the son of God see the virgin birth is tied to the divinity of Messiah and if you deny the divinity you don't know Messiah and if you don't know who Messiah is you can't be saved by him you haven't believed in the authoritative gospel that God has become flesh and dwelt among us and he is our Redeemer well a great prophecy we'll spend more time next week and a few weeks to follow thereafter in understanding this prophecy in a more precise and accurate away until then Shalom from history well we hope you will benefit from today's message and share it with others please plan to
