[Music] [Music] it is important how we deal with the Word of God we don't look at the scripture and try to find verses that support what we believe what we think should be no we look to the Word of God for guidance for truth for revelation in order to change us so that we would be in agreement with him and what we're going to do to see evening in our final session is to look at a parable that is grossly misuse today it is the parable of the vineyard workers we find it in the Book of Luke and chapter 20 and so often when I hear this being taught it's being taught as a framework a basis for understanding God's view of Israel today but when we look at the scripture we don't find that it has nothing to do with God's view concerning Israel not today not in the time of Messiah it doesn't speak about the Jewish people though when we look at the end of this parable we find out who it addresses and that is the Pharisees and the leaders of Israel there at that time in that location not all of them but this select group we need to be cautious not to take things out of the original context you see this parable is used to say that God is finished with Israel than he has replaced Israel that the promises and the covenant 'el requirements that God has obligated himself to with the children of Israel are no longer valid but this is not what we learn from this parable so join me take out your Bible look at Luke chapter 20 and what Messiah reveals in this passage let's begin in verse 9 Luke chapter 20 and verse 9 we read and he began to the people to speak this parable now the first thing that we need to be aware of is the purpose of a parable now it's just that word in Greek we anglicize it but if we look at the Hebrew origin of this word a parable is a Michelle in Hebrew Michelle means an example but it is the same word that the term government is derived from and what the scripture is teaching us is this that a parable reveals a biblical truth a principle it gives us an example and here's the key that should ruled or govern our life it's not just some bit of information but is a principle to rule over us if we're going to be found faithful if we're going to have a right understanding that manifests itself in a right expression in and through our life so verse 9 he began to the people to speak this parable a certain man planted a vineyard now a vineyard in a unique way according to Isaiah chapter 5 relates to issue so it's about Israel but it's not spoken to Israel you see the difference it deals with Israel but it's a mess it's not directly to the Jewish people not 2,000 years ago and certainly not today so a certain man planted a vineyard and he gave it as a term of leasing out he made a contract with vineyard workers and then he traveled for much time so we see that this vineyard was entrusted to others there was an agreement will see this agreement in a moment but it shouldn't surprise us he planted a vineyard with a purpose that he would benefit from the harvests and that's an important concept harvests it deals with a end but a new beginning and this parable has and there's no question kingdom implications so he leased it out he went on this long journey and in the season God's functioning always in his season that's what we need to be concentrating that's one of the purposes of prophecy is that we can find God's timing and respond to it God is not going to respond to our clock our timeframe we need to see that he has his season so he departed and in the season he sent to the vineyard workers a servant now all of this would have been agreed upon there's nothing difficult to understand there's nothing surprising everything is going based upon the purpose of God what God and in this parable realize that in one sense remember I said earlier parables are our big picture entities they don't teach about all the fine details but a few major points so this vineyard owner he leased it out but in the season he sent to those workers a servant and ordered that from the fruit of the vineyard that they would give to him that's the agreement it's his vineyard he leased it out they work but in the end at the time of the harvest that he would receive a portion of the fruit but notice what the Texas this servant was sent to them but notice that the same disconnect but the vineyard workers they beat him and sent him away empty-handed now what do we see we see rebellion we don't see ignorant this is not a question of lacking knowledge it's that because these vineyard workers don't understand what they should do we're gonna see clearly that they do but they are rebelling because they want more they don't want what God has for them they want to take all that they can get so we read these vineyard workers they beat him that servant and they sent him away empty not Jeter's not stingy they gave nothing nothing whatsoever verse 11 and again this vineyard owner and again he sent a different servant now it's just that another one but it's one of a different variety what that means we do not know but he is not responding in the way-hey differ serveth is sent and what do we find well these many these vineyard workers this one they beat and they sent him away treating him shamefully they humiliated him that's what the text implies now they know what to do but they're not willing to agree with God so what happens well we read and again a third time these vineyard workers they were sent another servant and what did they do they injured him and they cast him outside wanting nothing to do with this third servant now three is important number in the Bible it deals with with documenting or certifying something revealing it for what it truly is and now we're going to see that this vineyard owner he's going to respond differently notice what the scripture says verse thirteen and the lord of the vineyard now notice this lordship of this one and we know from the context it is going to teach us about God the Father but here again in a large way it's an illustration to teach us a few points so this lord of the vineyard now what's important about this is this lord attaches himself he is known he is described his identity is related to the vineyard who's the vineyard issue so he's seen the text and so oftentimes people forget this that interpret this in an improper way that this Lord which they agree it's God but they don't see this close relation this inherent relationship this attachment this identity between God and Israel the scripture so frequently prophetically speaks about the God of Israel so the lord of the vineyard he spoke he says what will I do now here again God never says that but the Scriptures teach us about a vineyard owner so that we can understand one or two important truths about God he says what do I do he says I will respond this way I will send my beloved son now that language obviously it is going to teach us this beloved son about Messiah and the response of Israel to him know this is how it's usually taught Israel's response no Israel here is what the vineyard now the one who is going to be spoken about is the vineyard workers that's not Israel that is not the Jewish people collectively we're going to see at the end who are the vineyard workers who was Messiah addressing not Israel not the Jewish people we need to be very precise in reading this so he says what do I do I will send my beloved son perhaps and that's I I mean with God he knows all things so this is a good example it's just teaching us a few points God would not say perhaps this will be God knows all things but in the parable perhaps this one seeing they will respect not a servant not a special servant but his beloved son perhaps this one they're going to respect but look what happens in verse 14 but in seen him remember two different words in Greek for seen we have the the normal one blep oh just to perceive something to see it it's a visual word but this one's different this is the one to see to perceive something with understanding to see and come to a conclusion I want you to understand there is nothing confusing about this vineyard workers they understand very well notice their response seeing this one the vineyard workers reasoned among themselves saying this one is the heir see they understand who he is he is the heir of what the vineyard in fact what the Scriptures teaching us is that these vineyard workers they want to exploit the vineyard their concern is not the well-being of the vineyard but what they can get from the vineyard for themselves here again not speaking about Israel not speaking about the Jewish people not speaking about the modern State of Israel that's how people interpreted but that's not what the revelation of God is in this passage this one they say is the heir let us come and kill him why in order that the inheritance shall be ours verse 15 and casting him outside of the vineyard they killed what therefore will the lord of the vineyard do to them verse 16 now we're going to see the authority the power of the vineyard owner it says that that he will come and he will kill destroy caused to perish these vineyard owners and he will give the vineyard to others now what is the implication of that before we answer looked at verse 17 those who were hearing now there was a crowd there was a group of people those who heard this they say never let it never be now we see something that's so informative and that is that people have a greater Allegiance a greater connection to their leaders than to God and whatever that happens bad things are going to take place never have greater allegiance to a leader than to God himself we are brothers and sisters God he kind of hates titles we have one rabbi one teacher Messiah and it's only when we realized that we relate to him in this way are we going to be people who have reception from the Holy Spirit they didn't want they weren't agreeing what God was going to do and what does he do notice verse 17 it is so significant to me that when we look at his response he turns to scripture it turns to Scripture see what I like so much about the new confident is this it is rooted in the Hebrew Scriptures more than any other document when we look at the New Covenant there is a close connection to the Old Covenant the revelation of cyanide the revelation of the prophets the writings of King David's the teaching the wisdom of Solomon all these things are foundational and when we separate ourselves as becoming more and more the case from Scripture and we base our allegiance upon others upon our desires our own private interpretation remember what the scripture says Scripture is never a matter of personal interpretation you know what that means it means that scripture interprets Scripture we need to see how the Word of God deals with the Word of God and what does Messiah do look at verse 17 it says and looking at then different work not that word for looking with perception but just simply seen them it's a word of just a visual connection he says seeing them he says what therefore has been written this I know that's awkward but this having been written what therefore what he says is this I am going to give you a scripture and you need to receive it and respond what it is what is this revelation what is the meaning of this text by the way it is a well-known scripture we we say it every month and the synagogue on Rosh Hodesh the new month every holiday it's part of that scripture known as the great hello it is something that when we want to praise God on a festival praise God on a new moon we turn to these sums and we recite them this is not some obscure text in fact according to Jewish law that was enacted many many many years ago we know something see there are certain things in the scripture that you can say seed it and there's other things that you are mandated to rise up why when you rise up you are making a testimony that you hear and you're listening to its message oftentimes this passage is used for a response liturgically in the house of God and what does the scripture we'll look at verse 17 it says second half what therefore has it not be written this and that awkwardness makes what has been written in fatica this gives special attention emphasis to the scripture and what is it the stone which has been rejected by the builders now if you look at commentators there is no confusion concerning this passage there is agreement that the builders that are fer to here are the leaders of Israel in a few minutes we're going to see that Messiah he and they meaning these Pharisees and other religious leaders they understand why he said see they had perception they had understanding what did they lack submissiveness what did they lack an agreement with the things of God and one of the wisest prayers that you can make is God help me to submit help me to agree with you I promise you something anyone who agrees with God that says yes to his purposes you will never ever regret it you will be eternally grateful glad that you said yes to the things of God but likewise when we rebel when we go our way when we say no to the things of God we will be so disappointed and we're going to understand the implications the outcomes from that disagreement things are not well when we disagree with the Living God he says here the stone that the builders have rejected and here again that's that same word we talked about earlier that word that is derived from documenting something they examined and they rejected why now this is significant because we learn something see all too often today there is a belief that Judaism is just missing Yeshua that's it we've got the puzzle all made everything's there there's just one piece missing we put your shoe into it and it completes it I wish that was the case but it's not when we look at how Judaism has been built this this expression of the traditions of the elders it has been built for the purpose of rejecting him now this is important pay attention to this word because it's interesting how its read in the Old Testament in Hebrew and how its translated into Greek the word in Hebrew is the word well we say Hamas now that means if you say no I don't care for something it's very different is it not than saying I love that and that's what the Hebrew word is when it says that they rejected that's how it's often translated it's not a word rejection doesn't capture that word my us this is to be repulsed by it to love it it is strong word look at it in its original text but here the Greek has a different word and the Greek it has to do with putting something up against a standard and based upon that standard you know to receive it or reject it what's the standard the expectations of Judaism and when Messiah is put based upon the expectations of the rabbi's of those sages when they look at Masaya compared to their expectations they reject him that's what the scriptures say all of Israel didn't say that all of the Jewish didn't say that we're talking about and here's what's important if you go to Israel many of you have there's a very important place that you should go and you should have your God explain why this is a significant place the name of it is bet Shari bet sorry well it was one of the locations after the destruction of Jerusalem in the temple in 70 AD that the Sanhedrin went to and it was there it was at that location or near it and suppori that the Mishnah was was placed in its final form and what's significant about that place well it was a place where there was a a battle going on for Judaism whether it would continue as a biblical expression or what started perhaps 50 75 years before the birth of Messiah this oral tradition I realized that traditionally people say that oral tradition goes back all the way to Sinai others will say the Babylonian captivity there's truth in that but it didn't capture the masses it didn't begin to really take hold among the people until this time the time around the Ministry of Yeshua and there was a struggle though and that struggle reached its climax about 200 years after the death burial and resurrection and there in bet sorry it was decided that Judaism would go under the leadership of a very controversial individual by the name of yahuda Hennessy now you who do we know that's Judah Hennessy means the president and he was elected president of the Sanhedrin and under his leadership Junius have made that final turn to what it's become today and we need to realize something see if you talk to any rabbi today and use the term hit bully loot which means assimilation they would say that is one of the worst concepts to see people assimilate Jewish people to become like the nation's but did you realize that basically you who died on the sea and that's what he was speaking about bringing different things into Judaism like what how about reincarnation now it's called a giggle Nishimoto giggle is a cycle a will Nishimoto is souls that the souls are recycled all these things that were part of pagan religions many of them came into Judaism no at bed serene there was a major turn away from Scripture authority to these traditions of men and what we find here is that Yeshua is prophesying he says based upon an Old Testament passage from the Psalms he writes the stone that the builders have rejected that they have lo that does not fit what their expectation he says this one has become now you got to pay attention on that word because this stone that was rejected debt and you know the passage that becomes the chief Cornerstone the foundation for what God is doing and by the way if you look at this passage where this Psalm this one verse is taken from it's a passage concerning a kingdom reality a day of salvation what does salvation mean one way to understand that victory it is speaking about the one who's going to provide victory for Israel but we know that that one will be rejected first and then he will become literally he will sin the passive he will be made to become the chief Cornerstone he doesn't do it himself but rather he is placed in that position there's no disagreement it is God who does it now what's so important about this see what I've shared with you about the builders being the leaders and the stone who's a stone Messiah this is not my interpretation would it surprise you it's Russia's interpretations its foundation Judaism the leaders of old going back a thousand years or more when they looked at the scripture that is said so frequently when they look at it they understand Israel's leadership is going to reject massage see we don't hear that much it's not taught frequently in the synagogue but when you look at the writings of Rashi concerning this passage of Scripture he makes it's clear the leaders for time are going to reject and what does he use as a basis for this will zq what said in Ezekiel chapter 34 I believe word says that same thing that the Shepherd's another term for the leaders that they are going to utilize the sheep for themselves they're not going to be good shepherds so who's going to be the good shepherd Messiah that's what Ezekiel says that's what the Gospel of John says see what we find in the New Testament it's really what has been written in the old so he says the stone that the builders have rejected this one has been made into the chief corner the headstone the one that is the basis for what will be notice verse 18 now we see additional truth concerning this one and all that fall upon that stone now the word has to do with stumbling the one who falls with that stone stumbles concerning it it says he will be broken when you look at ancient interpretations of this one of the things they'll say is this is a big deal this is significant it is not an accident that our forefathers mandated going back to Babylon that we read this on holidays special times throughout the hebrew of the biblical calendar so again all who fall upon this stone they will be broken that's not good news but it gets worse and upon whom it shall fall upon meaning if you stumble over the stone it's not good but if this stone should fall upon you everyone agrees it has to do with a messianic judgment shouldn't surprise us because the Word of God says that all issues relating to divine judgment heavenly wrath belongs to who the son all this that we've spoken about that I alluded to in revelation 8 and 9 revelation 16 and then ultimately when Messiah returns revelation 19 and we see that final judgment who's pouring it out it is under the authority of Yeshua now for many in Christianity they cannot get their mind around a wrathful lamb just foreign to them this is not what they've been taught but this is exactly what the scripture reveals so the one upon whom this rock falls upon what does it say this one should be ground up into powder it's an image of of returning back to death having no eternal significance whatsoever and then what does it say verse 19 and the high priests and the scribes now is it limited to that no he's teaching us something the high priests had Authority when you look at the Gospel accounts having to do with the trial of Messiah you will find that the leadership that was against him was not the Jewish people it was the high priests and those who should have known better I'm speaking about the scribes those were the experts not in Jewish law not on the rules of lifestyle not on those that are forbidden and those things which are permissible that's what wasn't the scribes expertise it was in the Word of God Scripture knowing the Word of God and supposedly the proper interpretations and what we see here what Messiah is teaching is this he's speaking against those who miss appropriate their authority who gave the high priests their authority God did they were there in that role because God appointed them but they were misappropriating that authority and if you know anything about the time thirty years forty years before the destruction of the temple see one of my favorite places to take people in Jerusalem it's what's called the Herodian Quarter and there you go and you see what remains but there's enough to get a really good glimpse of for priestly houses and we see that that they were like luxurious boutique hotels they had all the finest things that you can imagine they were large many rooms now obviously many times they hosted priests on that that priestly rotation I want to stop for a moment because we're coming up on a time of year where most of the world celebrates the birth of Messiah and then we have many within the Messianic community looking down at that rightly so but also airing in regard to saying Messiah was born during Sukkot I was watching a a religious program there was a well-known Messianic leader and he was speaking so matter-of-factly concerning when Messiah was born we know absolutely it was during Sukkot and the host said well how do we know this and he says it was because of the priestly rotations but here's what I would challenge I would ask anyone and I would suspect that there are people among us tonight that had been told or believed that same thing he was born during Sukkot no he wasn't no he wasn't I know this for two reasons one is a biblical reason because that angel Gavriel read sometime Luke chapter 1 verse 26 we see that the angel Gabriel approached Mary that she would conceive and it happened in the sixth month and that's the six month on the biblical calendar that would have been late in the summer close to the fall now someone will say no no that six month is the six month of Elizabeth that's true it's true but when we look here we see that if that's the case and Mary conceived in the six months see when we look at the biblical language there are two different expressions for that six months one says it was her six months but when it speaks about Miriam that's Mary and the angel Gabrielle coming to Nazareth to proclaim it simply says it came about not in her six month but in the sixth month so if you do your calculations Messiah he would have been born in late spring at closeness to the summer he said what how it doesn't have to be a holiday if it was a holiday he would have told us you think that the Word of God would have beside being born on some holiday and and not revealed that to us we find that John's Gospel uses these festivals to help us understand God's revelation but here's another thing people were so rashly saying oh it was these priestly rotations that zaharie I'm the father of John the Baptist's he was from the lineage that priestly family of a B who that's true he was the eighth rotation that's true my question is this when did these rotations serve they're called miss Faye wrote in Hebrew and when you look at the Talmud they don't even know there is not one document try me on this there's not one document if you ask rabbinic authorities concerning the mission I wrote they'll tell you we know very little about them and when they say that they're applying - before the destruction of the second temple excuse me the first temple why well if you read in the book of Ezra they will tell you that when the people came back from Babylon after the destruction of that first temple there were very few priests that came you can read how many there were what names they were from what Mishima wrote what rotation what family but you know what there was just a handful and the rabbinic authorities will tell you that there were so few they made just a few rotations but we know nothing nothing about these rotations during the Second Temple period here we get researching testing there is no information whatsoever about these rotations concerning the second temple no if you look to the Talmud you don't have any information other than this a debate a debate concerning did they serve twice a year in Jerusalem or only once a year half the time and Jericho why in Jericho because the Talmud says the priests would not eat normal food food that was bought into shook in the market they would only eat the food that they would prepare for themselves they trusted no one and the Talmud speaks about them going to Jericho and preparing the food and then coming up to Jerusalem with their own food so it's very disingenuous it is very false for someone to come and say I know based upon these mishima wrote these priestly rotations when Messiah was born no way possible there is not one authoritative text whatsoever that speaks to this issue we have to stop being so casual and saying things that that we don't mean or know simply because oh it's fit so well so makes so much sense to me and people get so excited when I tell them that's not spirituality that's not leadership look at verse 19 and the high priests and the scribes they were seeking to cast upon him hands that means to seize him for the purpose of putting him to death but notice what it says in that same hour also they feared the people see he was popular people heard what he was saying they understood the implication of this text and they feared the people you know what's the problem with that we're never called to fear man never called to give man priority fear God but they didn't this is such an informative passage of Scripture in that same hour when they were wanting to seize Yeshua but they looked at the people and they knew his popularity among them so they did nothing one last part for they knew and this is why it's so problematic when people say oh this pear is about modern Israel you google you put in this text or its counterpart from Matthew and it is so common to say this is New Testament teaching against modern Israel no that's false oh it's it's about ancient Israel no just read what the scripture says for they knew that to them or against them this parable he spoke it wasn't about Israel it wasn't about the Jewish people it wasn't about all their leaders it was about those leaders there at that time those who wanted to justify themselves rather than understanding their need to be justified by them want to say again before we wrap up tonight that there is such a casualness about the Word of God there is a failure to take time and go over the text word by word so what people they may not have that training that's true but we have tools at our fingertips that can tell us so much about the word the grammatical form you may not be able to recognize it that's okay other people have recognized it and written it down and if you take a few hours to be learn it in a few Greek terms it's not a big exhausting study you can use these tools with great great benefit so that you can understand God's Word because as Ronnie said God's Word is life-changing you know when rifki shared about the situation in ethiopia what she was referring to is that so many those in africa had bought into a prosperity gospel they had been taught promise if you're faithful if you just believe enough if you do the right things in you will have massive success you will know prosperity prosperity in the physical realm where's that in the scripture it's not and you can imagine what it's like when they began seeing persecution seeing one tribe rise against another and what's happening there and there's many Muslims there and they are not instigating this conflict not at all but they're utilizing it to persecute believers the week before I was there dear AJ our main contact he says he was going to a village dismantling now if you feel led to support this group in in Africa we can help we can put you directly in touch with them we don't need to receive the funds and pass it on you can do it yourself but they have such a modest budget and he's seen things changed because of this conflict where people they can't work as much they don't earn as much they can't come as rifka share to the meetings so they stop paying their tuition and this institution is suffering greatly and what does this man do Juraj a he's got a beat-up car I know that because he picks me up it and he drives out to where the roads end and then he walks a day or two there's no roads to some of these villages and he gets there and he spends a week away from his family in the the simplest the most primitive situation and he teaches them and trains these leaders of the faith in these small villages spending a week and then he walks back a day or two and gets in that old car and he travels back to Addis Ababa and one of the villages he was going to the authorities stopped him because there was conflict and two of the evangelists we should have him here next year two of the evangelists that he was training they were killed not because of this conflict but because the conflict was going on Islamic Muslims went and utilized this this conflict to stamp out what they did not want they did not want in their community and that was those who proclaim the gospel and you can imagine that these students work 25 30 35 years of age they hear this going on and they've been taught if you are faithful if you just believe everything's going to be well you will know richest beyond measure but they're losing their seeing persecution and what their thoughts were what's wrong with us what's wrong with our faith why is god dis own eNOS and they were so dejected we were there about a year prior to this there's a totally different group saying people but there their demeanor their faces and when they heard now think of this how close with us when they hurt no God is Brae utilizing the time of persecution for faithfulness they get excited they rejoice because they saw not God's disfavor but we changed our study a little bit look at different verses and they understood that was being persecuted they were because of righteousness it wasn't that they did not have a faith pleasing to God but they had a faith worth being attacked they didn't mind the suffering they weren't lamenting the persecution they just wanted to understand why see we should be humbled we should be ashamed sometime of how easy we have it and how we do not utilize the time the opportunities the freedoms that we have for now in this country be assured we'll see this tomorrow be assured changes they are coming and if you don't believe that when they begin to happen you are going to lose didn't say salvation but as Paul says you are going to learn lose your vantage point you're not going to have the perspective that you need to have so that you can stand faithfully remember how we ended our afternoon session Yeshua says when the Son of Man returns will he find faith upon the earth you [Music]
