i'm gonna be 100 honest with you guys every traditional leather wallet i've ever owned has sucked maybe because it's usually some 20 to 30 pseudo leather wallet from some clearance aisle that looks half decent but they almost never hold up too long plus i'm a minimalist okay okay okay scratch that i like the minimalist aesthetic so i got super curious when my favorite youtubers were pushing this the ridge wallet i knew i had to get one it's been literally six years since then and i can finally say i can afford one now after two months of owning this ridge wallet is it any good can tiny slabs of metal be a decent wallet let's find out with a little review first i want to say that i might say the word credit card and then show you b-roll footage of unused at walmart gift card this is because i don't feel like letting people steal my money off the internet by seeing my actual credit card information so just bear with me there second i've been sponsored by a wallet brand before but currently have no affiliation with them or ridge wallet this review is just my honest opinion alright let's start the ridge wallet cost different prices depending on what you want the cheapest aluminum models start at 75 dollars the titanium models cost 105 and the carbon fiber models cost 125 dollars but hey you can at least get a 10 off coupon using your favorite creators code hey the prices are pretty high but at least spending all that money helps you lighten your wallet a little to better fit in the minimalist ridge wallet they come in two different variants one with a clip to hold your money or one with the strap to hold your cash they also come in plenty of different colors for each variant as well i have with me a white aluminum one with a strap because i didn't trust the clip too much but you can order the clip or elastic strap separately in case you want to change things up the box comes with the wallet itself some extra screws in case you got a few screws loose and a screwdriver if you do happen to lose any of the screws ridge wallet sells additional parts straight off of their website the front ridge wallet plate has their name etched into it it's not something that you can easily scratch off either the plates are held together by 14 screws seven on each side when you remove these screws you can then replace the elastic if it's too old or switch your cash strap for the money clip or vice versa you could technically replace the plate with a different one if you own more than two ridge wallets you can swap the plates to get a style that you want the old problem i see with a plate swap is that you have to buy a second or third wallet just to change out the plates and that gets expensive okay do you see these black plates that are sandwiched beneath the exterior finish the sides of these that touch your cards are super smooth and very slightly inclined which lets the cards slide smoothly in and out of the wallet the wall is sturdy with no noticeable flex or bending especially when i put force into it now i don't condone violent actions but if you're getting robbed at gunpoint you can easily take one of these things and chuck it at the guy and start running the other way if you have to the wall itself feels nice in the hand and the painted aluminum ridge wallet exterior has this texture that feels like the exterior of colored hydro flasks okay okay okay to be clear before any of you guys judge me i did not buy this particular ridge wallet color to match my hydro flask see i've just been on a binge of white products versus my usual favorite color of gray products but i will say it does look pretty clean and stylish when you have both joking aside the ridge wallet is length and widthwise the exact shape of a credit card just thicker and so when you have cards inside they sit neatly behind the ridge wallet plate and rest on top of this bottom elastic so that the cards don't fall out if you compare the same amount of cards in the ridge wallet versus your typical tri-fold wallet the tri-fold wallet looks overstuffed versus the ridge wallet sandwich but what does it feel like in using the ridge wallet honestly the first week with it was a little rough the elastic was still very stiff and wouldn't stretch too far so i only managed to squeeze in about five or six cards but over the course of the month it started stretching out so then i actually managed to get 15 cards at the end of it but to be completely honest with you i wouldn't recommend shoving 15 cards in there even if it can handle it here's why see the ridge wallet is great if you want to hold anything less than 10. when you take your cards out you take your finger and push the bottom of the cards up from this little cutout then if you're looking for a particular card you have to swipe each one aside as if you're looking for your favorite pokemon card in a trifold wallet you probably keep your cards in the same place each time so you know where they are from memory so if you have too many cards in the ridge wallet it would take you just as long or longer than a tri-fold wallet to pull out the card you need and put the wallet away which is not ideal if you're sitting in a fast food drive through and you feel rushed to pull out a card but i will say the form factor does have its advantages it's small and compact and can be kept in areas that a normal wallet can't be kept okay try to stop me if i'm giving you way too much information here all right most men's pants and shorts have four that's eight four different pockets two in the front and two in the back with the regular tri-fold wallet i like to keep my keys and wallets in one front pocket and my phone in the other pocket if i place the trifold wallet in one of my back pockets i feel like i'm crushing a small animal but with the ridge wallet it's small enough that i can sit on it comfortably without feeling like i committed animal abuse enough about the butt problems what's wrong with this video if you have any embossed cards you know the ones with the raised numbers and letters that pop out of the card then it makes using the ridge wallet more difficult if you try sliding in a card that happens to slide where an embossed card is it can be stopped by the embossed lettering and not let you slide your card all the way down then you have to remove the card and slide it in somewhere else this is just a minor thing i wanted to make sure you guys knew because it can get really annoying if you're carrying around a ton of embossed cards also embossed cards take up more space in the wallet and this may make it harder to shove in the 15 cards that they advertise i honestly thought the white surface would get scuffed up like crazy considering i usually keep it in the same pocket as my keys but the wallet stayed intact with some minor scratches here and there overall i think it's held up pretty well so at this point of the review you've heard all the good and bad things i've had to say about the ridge wallet so you've probably solidified it in your mind whether you're going to buy it or not already we know the pros and cons of the ridge wallet but how does the cheap knock-offs on amazon compare to them well i bought three knock-offs let's meet our budget ridge wallet competitors and see if saving a few bucks and getting these instead is a good idea [Music] this is the yin node minimalist aluminum fiber slim wallet slim wallet and rfid blocking front pocket wallet minimalist wallet for men and women this is the chevrolet sv rfid carbon fiber wallets for men minimalist aluminum wallet for men carbon fiber money clip wallet metal men's carbon fiber wallet slim men's wallet carbon fiber card holder with money clip this is the lucas aluminum wallets for men lucas rfid minimalist wallet for men money clip wallet metal men slim wallet metal card holder silver these names are awful these are all budget ridge wallet competitors they all try to provide a cheaper alternative to the ridge wallet the chevrov is the most expensive and mimics the carbon fiber ridge wallet but feels awful in the hand the edges aren't tapered off meaning the edges dig into your hands and it feels cheap because of that cards require more force than the ridge want to slide them in properly but once in they glide smoothly into the wallet the clip clamps down hard maybe a little too strong but you can slide your money in just fine the lucas and the node look just like the aluminum ridge wallets except one is shiny and one is matte the locust feels good in the hand thanks to tapered edges while the yin note suffers from the same problem the chevrop had sharp edges the lucus requires force to get a card in while the u node like the ridge wallet has little resistance to sliding a card in but see the problem with the unnote is that it doesn't feel smooth when a card is sliding in it always feels like your card is scraping against sandpaper both ways the lucas is smooth when cards are slid in the node has a strap that securely holds your cash but the lucas clip doesn't let you slide money into that clip you have to actually bend the clip up and slide your cash in before you let it go that's a bit of a hassle so as you can see all these budget alternatives all have compromises that make them in some way inferior to the ridge walnut sure the bridge wallet costs more but honestly it's overall the better product in literally every regard well except for price the ridge wallet actually costs as much as all three of these combined if you want to learn more about wallets in general there's this great youtube channel wallet topia that does great in-depth wallet reviews i'm really confused why he doesn't have more subscribers than this go check him out so overall what do i think about the ridge wallet it's a cool idea it really is when i first bought it i thought it was going to be the perfect wallet for me because i wanted something small and compact then as i kept using it i realized that it came with too many compromises that i wasn't willing to live with but with all that being said that doesn't mean i don't appreciate it it's a cool concept just not for me if so then who is this wallet for this wallet is for someone who can get by without using their wallet much meaning someone who uses apple or google pay often and just needs a card holder for their id maybe a few cards that they don't use too often but need in an emergency and to hold a small amount of cash or cards you're going to need if apple pay or google pay doesn't work or maybe you're someone who's willing to live with form over function when it comes to a wallet it's durable and it's not a bad wallet just a walnut for a specific type of person anyway guys what do you think would you own a ridge walnut are the compromises worth it what's your current wallet what other youtube sponsored products do you think i should check out next i'm thinking of squarespace or skillshare after the raycon e25 review let me know in the comment section below give this video a thumbs up and well don't forget to subscribe i'll see you guys next time
