anything happening until 10 30. amen we do have early prayers our morning prayer starts at 10 here on sundays in the prayer area as well but it's going to be a great day pastor gaddy will be speaking to us and then after church we've got a couple that we're going to be honoring getting married in october dominic and shaina's a shower will be happening after service on sunday if you are part of the you glory in this house father for you have been so good to us you blessed us thank you for a great church that you have allowed us to be a part of god and we give you glory for that it is good to be connected into a body that gives us spiritual strength and wisdom we can learn god and tonight it's going to be no different we're going to hear from your word as pastor nate teaches us that we're going to learn some things about our own lives and how we can be victorious living this life in this day and time thank you lord in jesus name amen step out from where you're sitting bring your giving to the front and say hello to someone around you god bless you [Music] so [Music] good evening everyone good to see each and every one of you you may be seated i was uh i was thinking about this on the way to church we have a we have a great church i don't think that's a bad thing to brag on that we have a great church and that's not that's not the building obviously this is a beautiful building and we're enjoying that but when it comes to the people of this church there's some great people here and there's some great people around uh one a couple of things to note or say there was a missions vehicle offering and this church pledged seven thousand dollars to that in one one sitting and that's just a sign of a great church i mean that's just a sign that people would be willing to give uh to to help to cause that's labeled move the mission that's that's just awesome then i thought about the um like if you think about the service like tonight as we come together and as you get to come and sit and enjoy the word and enjoy worship and enjoy fellowship there has to be somebody that plays the keyboard and there has to be somebody that fills the baptismal tank there's got to be somebody that turns the lights on that prepares the slides that go up on the screen that you see that runs the sound there's got to be somebody that does all that stuff that sets out the chairs or gets things arranged that greets people at the door there are some great people here so i just thought it would be appropriate at the onset to just say we have a great church and how many of you are thankful that you're a part of a great church so pastor larry did mention this this is the grand finale this is the conclusion we are ending it we started this series ladies and gentlemen on march the 17th today september the 1st so i went back and i looked at the calendar and i'm not going to give i thought about uh if if i was really dedicated and i know i'm going to get some heat for saying this i was really dedicated i would have gone back and watched every single lesson and prepared and give you a statement from every single one that happened um but i went back and i counted i did do that i went back and i counted and we have done inherit the kingdom the book of first corinthians we have done this series for 18 mid weeks when we started this this uh series we were over there so we had we had actually had some lessons from this series that were over in that building we had lessons that were online and then we've had lessons that have been in this building so this series has stretched out now let me let me tell you the reason or the heart behind why this series has stretched out like it has because wednesday nights have a very specific purpose some people ask and say like what you know wednesdays they look different than sundays yes they do so wednesdays are geared and and specifically so that we could dig deep into this book so that we could take the principles and things of this book slowly walk through them and dig out the truths and things that help us because here's the deal i love sundays at new life raise your hand if you love sundays at new life we've got great sundays that happen here did the lights just get brighter is that just me i figured there was going to be some reflection jokes that came back i knew it i felt it in my spirit uh it gets tough up here with those right there it's hard yep thank you so much man yeah that did hurt big time uh my kid my oldest boy today at school uh they he his friend knew who i was and i asked odin i said how did your friend know who i was and he said well i told him you're the bald guy [Laughter] i'm like dude like handsome guy smart guy blue shirt guy we could have gone with a whole bunch of other adjectives that's okay that's okay don't don't talk about it too much odin i did the same thing and it came back to bite me so uh we dig deep into the word of god on wednesday nights our hope is that as much as we shout on sunday that when our feet hit the ground on monday we can walk it out and live it out and that is the purpose of wednesday nights that is what we do at midweek that's why midweeks are geared the way that they're geared so that we can walk through the word of god and whatever it is that the spirit is speaking to us we can instruct in that um i am very very we are i'll say we not i we are very very intentional about inspiration for sure we love inspiration but you got to have application at some point you can't just be inspired all the time you've got to have an application to walk it out and so we hope that midweeks fulfill that for you so if you have your bible turn with me to the book of first corinthians and we're going to take a look at that here uh for a few minutes and we're going to look specifically at chapters number 15 and 16. um i want to do this on the onset i want to say a couple things one there's no way i'm going to cover every single detail in chapter number 15. it's just there are i think 50 something verses in chapter unless you guys want to be here until 10 o'clock we can do that i had several people shake their heads like new new new new uh so there's no way to cover everything but we are going to get the gist the heart of what chapter 15 says and if we are able to get to 16 maybe just a couple points that are there so that's the first thing that i wanted to say second thing i wanted to say is let me give you just a real brief synopsis of the book of first corinthians i found this uh i found this what i'm going to read to you what i'm going to give you i found this and i think in my opinion if you were to take the last 18 mid weeks that we read from first corinthians inside this book and taught i think what i'm about to read to you sums up what we've talked about and what we've covered paul founded the congregation that is in corinth that the book of first and second corinthians is written to he started this church here but the apostles relationship with this body of believers that you see in first corinthians 15 it had actually by this time that the this book is written it had fallen on hard times so imagine somebody that starts a church comes back later and his relationship with that church is soured because of some things in the church several notable factions had arisen and threatened to dissolve and work away this church there was a group inside of the church of corinth that were considered amongst themselves to be spiritual elitists they were people that viewed now listen this is very important for the whole series this is people that viewed the body and actions of the body as inconsequential so think about that for a second in the context of everything that you've heard in this series they took the body the human body and the actions of the body as inconsequential didn't matter what you did didn't matter what your body did they believed that their actions sexual relationships the eating of meats from the temple it had zero bearings on somebody's salvation that was their opinion their motto this group of spiritual elitists found inside of this church their motto was all things are lawful for me what an unhealthy unbiblical mindset ungodly mindset to say all things all things are lawful for me to do them maybe not for you but for me it's fine that was their mindset this is probably the same group of people as we've learned that valued mystical wisdom and speaking in tongues over charity and being mindful of others weaknesses they were people who devalued the human body and that would be they would be prone to privileging like a heavenly language over a language that clearly communicates to the human ear those who value mystical wisdom these are the types of those that would prone to viewing the ugly hideous cross as an embarrassment and it might need to be explained away or minimized that's the type of group that was inside of the church so paul writes a book in an attempt to highlight what is true wisdom to address the proper use of the human body to institute sexual ethics to teach on personal freedoms and liberties and the proper use of spiritual gifts that's why the book is written the book of first corinthians as we have learned over these last several weeks it's almost been almost a third of the midweeks that we've had in 2021 have been in this series this book that we've gone through first corinthians at its core is one of the most practical books in the new testament now you're probably thinking there's been a lot of deep stuff in here when you flesh it out and you cut away some of the fat so that you can understand i can understand it when we look at it it's probably one of the most practical books in the entire new testament it gives us clear principles and paths to navigate situations in the body strong theology principles and help for our current times that's the book of first corinthians now i will be honest with you when we first started the book of first corinthians i did not view it that way there were some things that i knew about first corinthians that people had quoted but i did not view it in that context but in reality in my opinion and as i think the spirit has led this church this series and this study of this book has been so helpful for right now and so we will conclude it tonight and i hope that maybe there were some lessons that jumped out to you and it's all on our youtube page so you can go back and watch lessons that have been taught here on this book but i hope i hope that this series has spoken into your life and will help you moving forward so you got your bible with you first corinthians chapter number 15. that's just an intro to uh just give you a little groundwork and then we'll work as much as we can with what the word of the lord says first corinthians 15 he's starting a brand new subject if you remember 12 13 and 14 deal with the spiritual gifts and proper operation of the spiritual gifts with 13 be in the emphasis which is love now in 15 he's going to change subjects once again and here's what he says moreover brethren verse number one i declare unto you the gospel which i preached unto you which you also received and wherein ye stand and verse number two by which ye are also saved i'm going to pause in this can you go back to verse number one i'm going to pause on this and point out a very very important progression of what paul says in this verse that we practice still to this day moreover brethren i declare unto you the gospel which what i preached preaching is still important preaching still needs to happen i don't know why i feel led to say this but i'm going to say it you cannot feed your soul just off the internet you cannot feed your soul entirely just off of either an internet devotion or some type of fancy quote or saying or whatever you can't feed yourself off that you still it was by the foolishness of preaching preaching still matters so i want you to notice the progression in this moreover it was the gospel which the gospel needs to be preached unto you which you also have received preaching doesn't do a lot of good if it's not received so things have to be preached the gospel has to be preached but there also has to be hearers and hearts to hear and receive that so it's preached then it's received then on the next thing is and wherein ye stand so i know this is such an important progression and it's good to stop right here and just talk about it for a moment it's so good to have preaching and you gotta receive the preaching that's given but it's also important to stay in the preached word to stand in it to continue in it beyond i i have the privilege of teaching sometimes the students and i talk to them about the four different types of soil and how there's the rocky and then there's the thorny and then there's the wayside and then there's the good soil and those are soil types that receive the seed or the word into their life and it does no good if the seed goes in and it doesn't produce anything out and there are types of soil that can receive it but they don't stand in it so let me tell you church we have to not only hear the word that's preached but receive it and then continue to walk in it and stand in it moreover the gospel which i preached to you which you received and what you stand in and we're going to get to what the gospel is here in a moment verse 2 by which ye are also saved so there's the fourth point it was preached it was received you stand in it and ultimately saved by it can i just pause right here for a moment you can't be saved by anything else other than the gospel it's the gospel that saves i'll never forget i was i was at a youth i was a large event it was youth congress i was a large event and this was several several years ago and the preacher who i in my opinion i'm not judging anybody i'm not telling anybody he mistakenly from the pulpit made a statement about the gospel being something along the lines of like serving the needy or reaching out to others or doing something like that and i remember a preacher sitting close to me standing up and yelling that's not the gospel now that is little bold if you want my opinion and probably not something i would have done but i get his point because let me tell you what the gospel truly is verse number three for i delivered unto you first this is the gospel all that was which i also received how that christ died for our sins according to scriptures that he was buried and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures that ladies and gentlemen is the gospel that jesus died he was buried and he rose again nothing more nothing less that's the gospel the gospel of jesus christ paul simply and clearly laid it out in fact in verse number two he says if ye keep in memory what i preached to you which so important i think paul recited this he recited the gospel the death the burial the resurrection of jesus christ he recited that he gave if you keep that in memory this is what i preached to you and this is the gospel jesus died for our sins he was buried and then he rose again now how that's lived out in our life how that's lived out in a believer peter summed that up in acts 2 and 38 to repent be baptized every one of you in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive the gift of the holy ghost he lived he summed up the gospel in that how we respond to it that we repent and die out and turn away from our sins we are buried with him in baptism as romans says we get baptized in jesus name and we receive the gift of the holy ghost which brings new life that is the gospel and how it applies to us amen how many of you are thankful for the gospel how many of you not forgot the gospel how many of you know the gospel when you first heard it and when you first experienced it it changed your life it did something for you it sets you on a new path and a new direction and we can't forget the gospel we can't walk away from it no matter what church or religious group or person walks away from the gospel this is what the gospel is that jesus died that he was buried and that he rose again that's the gospel now when he does this when he gives this and he tells us this it's for a couple of reasons one he's telling us the gospel so that we know it clearly but he's also getting ready to prove a point to the people of corinth look at verse number five with me remember he says in that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures verse 5 and he was seen of cephas then of the twelve after that now what this next part right here this is very important and we're going to come back to why it's important he was seen of above 500 brethren at once of whom the greater part remain under this present so that part i bolded it in my notes because we're going to come back to that here in a second but some are falling asleep after that he was seen of james verse 7 then of the apostles verse 8 and last of all he was seen of me as one born out of due time for out in the least of the apostles that him not meet to be called an apostle because i persecuted the church of god but by the grace of god i am what i am and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain but i labored more abundantly than you all yet not i but the grace of god which was with me therefore whether it were i or they so we preach and so ye believed now paul has taken a few verses that i just read to you and he's taken time you're going to see this in a second he's taken time to prove that there was in fact a resurrection because let's look at the next verse verse number 12. you have your bible with you look at verse number 12. now if christ be preached that he rose from the dead how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead so paul's asking this question to the church okay you have a group of people inside of your church that say that says there is no resurrection now he just spent from verse number 5 to verse number 11 basically proving your point wrong saying listen there were these people that saw jesus rose after he rose from the dead there's this group look it was cephas one of the twelve and it was james he says in verse seven and last of all he was seen of me now verse number six i told you i bolded this in my notes he was seen of above 500 brethren at once of whom the greater remain under this present so what that means essentially is he's saying at this time that i'm writing you this letter there are a lot of people alive right now that saw jesus when he arose from the dead so you're over here saying that it's not possible that resurrection can happen but i'm telling you there's a lot of people that saw jesus get up out of that grave so while you're saying and declaring this and moving it as a doctrine i'm telling you i mean just look around there's people that are still alive right now that saw it happen so he's taking a moment to disprove their their belief what they're saying what's there so he takes he takes time to address the problem so whatever this problem is that they see there's a group of people that believed a false teaching a blended thing of christian ideas and greco-roman philosophies and perhaps that they imagined that life completely ends after death that there's nothing after you die essentially so there's no resurrection more than likely there is a belief that they thought maybe the human spirit continues into afterlife without a body present so there is this false pretense idea belief doctrine that when a person dies the body doesn't continue there is no resurrection there's nothing that happens after maybe the human spirit goes on but it's unclear about what happens and paul as he does is going to correct these people from their belief and what they're saying so the rest of the chapter the rest of the chapter he deals specifically with this so that's the point of chapter 15. he's talking directly to a group of people that do not believe there's a resurrection after death so it's important to lay that groundwork now before i read to you the next couple of verses that i'm going to read you next several verses i want to i want to talk about two things that go along with what i'm about to teach on for a few moments um first off number one paul is about to make the point of this very clearly he's about to make the point if there is no resurrection what's the point of all this if resurrection is not real then why does any of this matter right so that's the point he's about to make so read with me we're going to read 13. i this this is just my style forgive me i just like to let the word speak as it does so i'm just going to read to you the text of what it says in that context in that framework if there's no resurrection what's the point this is what paul says if there be no resurrection of the dead verse number 13 then listen christ is not risen and if christ is not risen then our preaching is in vain and your faith is also in vain yeah and we are found false much worse we're found false witnesses because we've testified of god that he raised up christ whom he raised up not if so that the dead rise not for if the dead rise not then is not christ raised and if christ not be raised your faith is in vain and worse yet ladies and gentlemen ye are yet in your sins verse 18. then they also which are fallen asleep in christ they're perish they're gone what does it matter for them if in this life only we have hope in christ if if all the hope we have is what we're alive in then we're of all men most miserable right verse number 29 jump all the way down with me to verse number 29 else now this is one of the more strange verses in the bible so hang with me for a second okay else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead if the dead rise not at all why are they then baptized for the dead now there is a belief in many religions that you can be baptized for somebody else for if a grandparent or a loved one is passed on and they were not saved and this was practiced apparently just an inference here from scripture that was practiced here that you could be baptized for somebody that's already deceased but here's paul's point if there's no resurrection of the dead why does that even matter why would you even hold on to that belief if there's no hope afterwards what does it even matter to do that keep reading with me for a second and by the way by the way let me just clarify this point he is not advocating for baptism of the dead it's just a point he's making so let's be clear about that he's not saying to them their behavior is okay keep going keep it up keep doing it for aunt may it's great he's not saying that he's not approving that he's using that as illustration to say what's the point if there's no resurrection of the dead then what's what's why would you do that why would you hold on to that belief verse number 30. and this is where i th paul's as as we read this this is where i think paul is just paul and why stand we hear in jeopardy every hour like if the god like if there's no hope for the resurrection if there's no hope of life after this why would i put my life in jeopardy every single hour of every single day why was i imprisoned and why did i get shipwrecked or or why why did all these things happen why did this happen if there's no resurrection of the dead i protest by your rejoicing which i have in christ jesus our lord i die daily if after the manner of men i have fought with the beast of ephesus now he didn't actually fought with a beast he actually fought with people and he considered the people of ephesus and how strong of an opposition they gave him he considered them a beast god help me never be that i mean i'm like i'm smiling a little bit but i'm serious let me not be a spiritual opposition to what god wants to do let not my spirit attitude the way that i carry myself be a thing that the man of god has to fight are you with me i hope i still have friends let let my attitude and spirit not be somebody that fights against the will of god the man of god the purpose of god that it had that it's like they're fighting a beast which he describes as a beast of at ephesus one advantage of it to me if the so this is his point as he sums up what why does all this matter if the dead rise not then here let's eat and drink for tomorrow we die if there's no resurrection of the dead then let's just all go do what we want to do like if this life doesn't matter if if there's nothing beyond this life then let's just all go out and do whatever we want to do but let me pause for a second but if this life does matter and if there is a resurrection of the dead and if resurrection will happen and there is something beyond this place then it does matter what i do here then it does matter how i believe then it does matter what i hold myself to then it does matter my doctrine it does i've got to hold on to this if there is no resurrection if there's no thing after this life then let's do whatever we want but if there is then let's hold fast to truth and believe righteously now that's the first point i think he's making but as i was reading this i came across something i kind of saw something in scripture that really really jumped out to me and i wanted to share it tonight in this context of where we're at in this this first go back with me to verse number 13. now i have up here with me i brought some of these from home i have i have up here some dominoes and i know this is a very small illustration and you guys are far away and so you may not be able to see everything that i do but i just i brought these up here with me so you could probably i'm telling you what they are so you can see them and i'm going to scoot this table just a little bit up scoot is a great word when i said it i just thought oh that's a neat word now let me read this to you again but if there be no resurrection of the dead then christ is not risen and if christ be not risen then our preaching is in vain and your faith is also in vain yet we are found false witnesses of god because we've testified of god that he raised christ should be raised not up if so be that the dead rise for the dead rise not then christ is not raised and if christ be not raised then your faith is in vain and then you're yet in your sins still then also which are falling asleep by the way everybody fell asleep they're also perished too so what i set up right here that you can see is i just set up a row of dominoes if i walk in and you all know you've all heard of the domino effect right so if i walk in and i do something to this domino all of them go they all fall and we've all experienced that probably as a child or you've probably messed with it before and you've probably seen something like that happen other than domino's or maybe you've done it with domino's before but i want you to notice the domino effect of altering a component of doctrine and then what happens from there so if you walk up and say well this part doesn't matter anymore and we don't really believe that because it's uncomfortable for me to believe that then it really i don't i you know the cross is kind of a it's kind of an ugly thing like these people believe some of this faction so it's kind of an awkward thing to preach and declare so i can just if if i could take a part of of doctrine and move it but here's the problem with moving doctrine here's what isaiah says put isaiah 28 and 13 up on the screen but the word of the lord was unto them watch this precept upon precept precept upon precept line upon line and line upon line here a little and there a little hear me when you start messing with doctrine and truth you're not just taking one component out of it but because you remove pieces out and because of what these people did when they remove part of the resurrection out of the equation you watch what happens to the rest of their belief it all falls it's all worth not at that point so hear me this is why it is so important that we hold fast to doctrine and truth because you can't just remove a piece out and expect the rest of it to be fine there is still a power in keeping the full scope of truth and of doctrine i cannot cut verses out or cut parts out that i'm not comfortable with or i don't understand i need all of this everything that this teaches me because by removing one part i'm affecting and there's a domino effect to so many other things so i came on this wednesday night in the middle of this message to tell you to hold fast to this all of it all of it hold fast to it keep it because it matters the doctrine we hold it matters to hold the whole thing together he says this continues on in verse 33 and 34 be not deceived evil communication corrupts good manners awaken to righteousness and sin not for some have not the knowledge of god that i speak to this to your shame hope in the resurrection is a sanctification issue it leads to godly living and not corruption and there were some people in this church that did not know god and were corrupting the influence of others and they were getting out of what real truth was don't listen to statements of people that are lost don't listen to statements of people that are deceived if you wanted if if you wanted to find your way you'd first have to find someone who knew the way and then follow them and paul is saying don't listen to people who have doubt because evil communication corrupts good character and good behavior now let's continue on to verse 35. but some may say how are the dead raised up so he's going to go even further and give a great give it even more explanation and with and with what body do they come thou fool now that's pretty strong thou fool that which thou sowest is not quickened except it die this is going to get bore out here in a second i know that's a little the king james makes it a little complicated understand that and that which thou sowest thou sowest not the body that shall be that's a part of my no that's a part of my scripture that i but that i bolded thou sow is not the body that thou shalt be but bear grain and it may chance of wheat or some other grain so when when jesus spoke of his resurrection and his death and resurrection this is what he said in john 12 and 24 verily verily i say unto you except a corn of wheat falls into the ground and die it abides alone but if it dies it brings forth much fruit in a seed in the process of a seed in just a natural terms in the process of a seed there's a dying process that provides the right balance of events to bring life out of that and a small fragile insignificant seed after dying out to the process becomes something much larger greater and more fruitful now lane do you have the the picture of the seed in the in the hand can you put that up now this is a a seed looks like a pine cone but it's not it's actually a seed of a tree and you as you can see on the picture that seed is smaller than a person's hand how small it is it is insignificant in the grand scheme of what a seed looks like now when that seed takes full root can you put up the next picture that seed is a seed of a redwood tree the only way that you get that is it comes from a seed that's just a little smaller than the size of a person's hand that's how you get that tree but the only way you get that tree is if that seed falls in the ground and dies and then it is able to the right process to produce that something so small insignificant something in in other words and i'll and you'll see this in a second something corruptible and what it turns into something that's incorruptible now with that illustration in mind that you just saw between the seed and the tree let's keep reading what he says in verse 38 so look at look with me first corinthians 15 and 38 but god giveth it a body as it has pleased him into every seed his own body all flesh is not the same flesh but there's one kind of flesh of men another flesh of beasts another of fishes another of birds there are also celestial bodies and bodies terrestrial but the glory of the celestial is one and the glory of the terrestrial is another there is one glory of the sun and another glory of the moon and another glory of the stars for one star is different from another star in glory so paul's using natural and spiritual examples to illustrate resurrection here verse 42 so also is the resurrection of the dead it is sown in corruption and it is raised in incorruption it is sown in dishonor and it is raised in glory it is sown in weakness and it is raised in power and now watch here it is it is sown in a through a natural body and it is raised in a spiritual body there is a natural body and then there is a spiritual body what was sown looking one way in a smaller size and a lesser state when it is resurrected with incorruption glory and power it comes forth greater that's the power of resurrection that's the truth of what resurrection really is and that is the truth of the future of a believer what this body as weak and frail and corruptable as it is when it dies in the faith and is buried it will one day rise again i mean are you with me tonight it will one day rise again incorruptible in glory in power it will one day come forth greater than what this body is this body is prone to disease this body is prone to sickness this body is prone to error but there's coming today when this body may be put in the ground but a spiritual body will rise up and a spiritual body will come what a hope that we have my goodness why would you ever take that away from a believer why would you pull that out of a doctrine why would you remove that away from who they are we need that hope that we look forward to i don't know about you but anytime my body's in pain i stop and think about about the day where there will be no pain and there will be no sorrow and there will be no sickness that's a day coming for the believer when this body is sown and then resurrected verse 50. now i say this brethren that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of god neither does corruption inherit incorruption that's the whole point of this series you can see the logo at the bottom of the screen the whole point of the series is to get to this point i want to inherit the kingdom of god one day i'm going to stop for a second and just let that soak in i want to inherit the kingdom of god one day i realize it's hard down here right now but i want to endure to the end i want to inherit the kingdom of god and listen flesh and blood can inherit the kingdom of god corruption can't inherit incorruption it can't happen but there is something supernatural attached to resurrection and there is coming a day where i will get to experience that for myself now let's read the let's read the rest of this and let's rejoice and i hope what i read over the next few minutes i i no you're not amen in me you're aiming in the word of god behold i show you a mystery we shall not all sleep but ladies and gentlemen we shall all be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed for this corruptable must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality so when the corruptable shall have put on incorruption and this mortal shall have put on immortality then they shall be brought to pass saying that is written death is swallowed up in victory it's not my words that's his words oh death where is thy sting grave where is thy victory the sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law but thanks be to god which giveth us victory through our lord jesus christ that's not my words that's not my ideas that's not my doctrine that is the truth of what's coming listen i i went to a funeral one time it was a friend he's very close to my age he's about a year or so older than i am it was his mom and his mom got stomach cancer and it was i preached at their church a few weeks before she passed away and and her like as the body as her body was deteriorating and it just did not look like her because of all the things that she'd gone through and everything that she'd experienced it didn't look like her and he was pastoring a church at the time and then and then his mom his mom stage four cancer she only lives a few months and then she passed away and and i'll never forget at the funeral get i get to go to the funeral and i'm sitting there at the funeral and he does something he he gets up to speak which which i i they don't tell you about that when you sign up for ministry that you're gonna get to do your family's funeral they don't tell you that stuff there's no class for that so they they he stands up and i will never forget the first words out of his mouth and i'm not this is not hyperbole and i really am not trying to hype i i literally will never forget the first words out of his mouth whose mom he's standing over the casket of his mom who has just died from cancer he says this today right now cancer is not wearing a crown she is who i felt the holy ghost cancer doesn't get to wear the crown kova doesn't get to wear the crown sickness age it doesn't get to where the crown we get to wear the crown we get to rejoice forevermore and sickness and disease pass away but we get something eternal we have a promise beyond this life cancer doesn't get to wear crown my mom does today we thanks be to god who gives us the victory therefore verse in 52 in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trump for the trumpet shall sound the dead shall be raised incorruptible verse number 58 therefore my beloved brethren be ye steadfast unmovable always abounding in the work of the lord for as much as ye know that your labor is not in vain remember all the things we do on this earth for the kingdom of god it's not in vain so stand fast in it be unmovable in it hold fast to truth now there's something interesting about the book of first corinthians and and i'm actually going to wrap up here and and and 16 is a great sum it's a great summation he kind of he hits on some couple points he talks about giving and some other things that he that he hits in there and and some last minute things that he covers but there's something i noticed about the book of first corinthians that i think is really remarkable that proves the point that this book it's not an accident and it's not just a random collection of things it gives another truth or another layer to how god often speaks and operates in his word if you have a bible with you turn with me to the book of first corinthians but go all the way to the first chapter go to the first chapter the very beginning of his letter and here's what he says if you have the first first chapter in his first letter look at verse number 17-18 for christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the gospel not with wisdom of words lest the cross of christ should be made of none effect verse 18 for the preaching of the cross to them that perish foolishness but unto us which are saved it is the power of god that is how he starts the book of first corinthians he starts it with the cross but when you flip over and you go back to verse chapter number 15 and you look at verse number 52 and i read it a second ago when you look at that here's how he ends the book of first corinthians in a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trumpet for the trumpet shall sound and the dead shall be raised incorruptable and we shall be changed he starts the book with the cross and he ends it with the resurrection he starts it with the message and the power of the cross and he ends the book with the message of the resurrection that is the life of a believer to hear the message that your sins can be forgiven and they can be washed away that the power of the cross can forgive you and it has mercy and grace for your life and to end it and say one day if you believe this message and if you walk in these truths you're going to be raised from this life raised from this body and you're going to be changed in a moment in the twinkling of an eye can you stand with me tonight as you stand would you do this would you lift both of your hands up and would you just take a few moments and thank god for the truth of his word and the hope that you have god i'm not in this life most miserable of men i'm not in this life without hope and without purpose but there is something ahead for me there is something ahead for us there is something that we get to experience lord and it is through the power of your resurrection thank you god that you showed us by raising again from the dead by rising again you showed us that we one day will rise again out of these corruptible bodies into into incorruption out of this mortality into immortality you will give us god the things of your kingdom we will inherit your kingdom as we live for you down on this earth teach us mold us help us god to make it in this life so that we can make it to the other the next life in the resurrection we give you the glory in jesus name in jesus name and everyone said amen are you encouraged tonight i am i feel better just having hear the word do this as you leave tell somebody something that resonated with you in the sermon tonight in the le in the lesson speak to somebody on your way out the door and tell them what spoke to you tonight god bless you thank you remember 10 30 sunday morning 10 30 only we'll see you on sunday right then god bless you
