they are basically a bunch of cairns and leather vests what do people find cool but is actually incredibly stupid showing your middle finger in pictures unless you're an edgy 13 year old it is anything but cool nothing makes me cringe more than someone proudly holding up their middle finger especially with their tongue out my sister's fiance is in a 1 motorcycle gang and he loves to talk about how tough he is riding his bike through thunderstorms windstorms and all the peril he gets in along the way hitting guardrails losing control of the bike etc i just sit there like that doesn't make you cool that makes you stupid hearing loss concerts are awesome loud music shooting guns and more but guess what your hearing won't last i wore ear plugs about half or three quarters of the time i should have wish i always had i still have great hearing but my wife has about 10 percent less than me it's weird to hear her claim certain frequencies can't be heard in the test as i hear them also mowing snow blowing car work have some acoustic earmuffs around to help out willful ignorance for some reason it's become in vogue to stay uninformed on something rather than to have enough of the basic information to have a simple stance or opinion it's even more tragic considering the ease at which information is accessible now it's not like you have to go to the library and learn the dewey decimal system to find the most basic information on things posting your whole life on social media it's funny when you think how much some people value their privacy i knew someone who constantly posted pictures of their three very young kids including potentially embarrassing stories and photos on facebook she once posted this whole i need my privacy so don't ask for any picture spiel it's like no one asked narcissist not wearing a helmet when you're skiing or in any situation where you need one oh look at me i'm so cool i don't even care if i split my skull open and poop myself every day while i relearn english from the ground up i'm a rebel who people who pull that humanity is a disease all humans are evil etc type of crap brah who the hell do you think decided the thing you're complaining about is evil gasp humanity we all agreed as a species that the thing you're whining about is bad you're not intellectual you're an idiot doing badly in classes skipping school and making fun of smart people basically losers holding back other people from progressing i went to my tenure reunion and it was nice to see most of the nerd clique that hung around the computer lab during lunch all had 150k plus paying jobs and tech not to say that there weren't successful cool kids one of the guys became a dentist and at least two of the cheerleaders became doctors but it was nice to see so many of the guys getting picked in high school on doing well in life not sleeping nearly enough it's so weird how many people brag to me about how little sleep they get i can't recall a single conversation with someone who actually gets enough sleep and it's not like i go around asking people about their sleep hygiene habits or experiences i don't even know how i get into these conversations unless it is health related you are not cool for not sleeping enough you are unable to manage your time efficiently in order to get enough sleep people that don't care about anything i work with youth and it absolutely baffles me how apathy is considered so attractive among peers they literally bond over how much they hate life and how little purpose anything has and how little they care about anything but dating it is all a big show for each other and then with me one-on-one they are entirely different youth are so scared to bond over the things they actually care about because they are terrified of judgment over what they enjoy they are 13 and 14 years old when did such apathy become cool and why excessive drinking at least with young people it's weird when your young people seem to find being able to drink massive amounts admirable or impressive but the second middle age hits it becomes a problem and pitiful i really do worry about some people i know who are younger and have massive drinking problems and who don't seem to be able to see the long-term problems that could cause them extremely long and overly bedazzled acrylic fake nails a la cardi b i cannot understand how it's considered art or attractive how do you do normal day-to-day functions with two inch nails can you even wipe your butt or is the poop stain in your pants an artistic statement too smoking smoking has made a real 180 in my lifetime when i was a little kid in the 70s and 80s if you wanted to show how cool a character is you would show them dramatically lighting and smoking a cigarette then sometime around the mid-2000s i almost never saw anyone smoking and now when i see someone smoking i notice it and think how dumb they are and vaping sucking a robod will never look cool this new trend of people making anxiety and depression a personality i am not saying people can't be depressed have anxiety or other mental health issues i just don't think people should base their personality and identity around having or even pretending to have a mental disorder if you have a mental issue and you use it as your personality you might not be able to drag yourselves out of it if you're pretending to meet a trend you could start developing actual depression everyone and their mother has anxiety now that really only manifests when they don't want to take responsibility for their actions my little sister who has never seen any kind of therapist and refuses to is always acting rude then yelling i have anxiety instead of just being like sorry i absolutely lost it when you were just saying hi to me then pitch to fit like a lunatic when you were upset about it like no i worked very hard with my therapist to try to take steps to control real anxiety that comes on for no reason and makes me feel totally out of control if you're actually invested in being a better person you'll take steps to fix it and own your behavior not just throw around trigger words as your get out of jail free card face tattoos it's funny how artists get them as a sort of i'm all in on this there is no going back i either make it or i don't because i'm now unemployable signal a couple of years back i was at a water park with my family of course people tend to let it all hang out at water parks some can do it others not so much that said there was a woman there who was gorgeous like model perfection gorgeous and i'm saying this as a female that's what a showstopper she was she had a perfect figure an incredibly beautiful face with baby blue eyes in this gorgeous long natural platinum blonde hair her looks were exactly people pay plastic surgeons trainers and hairdressers for of course she somehow found it necessary to tattoo a huge black arrow up one side of her face i'm hoping she liked it but i just found it distracting it honestly wasn't even that great a tattoo i was just aghast that she would take what i considered perfection and tattoo a black arrow on it and it's not like she could probably remove it either without a lot of scarring i just couldn't imagine changing anything if i were as perfect as she was posturing in bars bragging about getting in fights in public places threatening and emasculating other dudes over petty stuff a long time ago i used to be a boxer i did it from about the age of 12 until i was in my mid-20s and decided that getting punched in the head was a lot less fun than i thought luckily i was never punched in a head enough times to make that thought not happen anyway as someone who was trained for a very long time to fight other people i noticed one thing about these types of guys they're usually the biggest wimps around i was never scared of someone who would threaten me in public because he and i both knew that the fight would probably be broken up before anything serious happened no it's the guys who want to fight you in a private place away from a crowd that you need to worry about excessively loud car engines massive tires and lifts on your truck that everyone knows you're not using to haul stuff just looks like you're making up for shortcomings i lived on a road in rural ohio that was popular as a scenic drive sunday mornings in the summer was a nightmare with groups of motorcycles touring through always loud always revving their engines without reason always dropping trash along the road always blaring their motorcycle stereos always a pain in the butt i am sure most of them were posers since no one can really afford the bikes they were riding and most were obese veteran here someone finds out i was in the military and tells me about how they were going to enlist but didn't for whatever reason not relevant to this thread but i don't care why you didn't join the military much like i don't care about other jobs you didn't apply for more than once i've had people say stuff like i'd have done really well in the military but i would have punched the drill instructor if they got in my face that comment doesn't make me think you're tough it makes me think you're an idiot yeah the point of dis is to create a stressful environment for you to deal with but they're rooting for you they want you to succeed there are always some people dies included who are just a-holes but that's true with any occupation at no point did i ever feel like the people yelling at me were actually attacking me personally or that they didn't have my best interest in mind it's the same dynamic as that tough coach who really believes in their team and what they're trying to accomplish so you're saying you wouldn't have made it through a low consequence tightly controlled moderately stressful environment where the primary stressors are on your side and are actively trying to make sure you succeed sure dude i bet you would have positively flourished in the military trying to emulate sociopaths and psychopaths especially ones from tv and video games i knew a guy in college who was way too into the joker he started wearing a purple trench coat mimicked the joker's laugh and even carried knives around though he never tried to hurt anyone i mean i'm all for loving dark characters but believe me you're not them and shouldn't try to be them people climbing up crazy high places and then dangling from a friend's arm or doing parkour or some stuff it's like cool if you mess up a little bit you die if you succeed you get some fake internet points from people you don't know these are by far the biggest idiots on the planet success instagram picture failure darwin award flying the confederate flag proudly nothing is more stupid to me than seeing billy bob flying his extra-large flag from his jacked up truck i call it the loser flag because that's what it is the confederates literally lost you are proclaiming your allegiance to a bunch of people whose country only existed for three years before falling apart but the biggest loser is obviously you as you have never even done anything for the country you're so proud of in the first place harley-davidson motorcycle culture where i live there are many areas that are tourist destinations especially for bike riders and motorcyclists most are fine and do their own thing until the harley groups come in they are basically a bunch of cairns and leather vests they act all uppity know everything and expect you to show them respect because of the logo on their vest they are tough but throw a hissy fit if you pass them in a 55 miles per hour zone while they are going 30. bunch of 60 year old babies trying to look tough the alpha male mentality having graduated college i've known many alpha male men and each of them was the same in that they were all miserable like seriously i've never met more insecure man children in my entire life alpha male culture is a haven for guys who really ought to be in therapy for their anxiety and deep-seated insecurity issues but who instead think that they can just f and weight lift their existential pain away pro tip you can't stop trying go to therapy get medicated if need be and learn that chasing the dragon of living up to someone else's toxic and outdated expectations of manhood is only to continue your cycle of feeling inferior and miserable if the concept of your own masculinity is threatened by the very existence of men not doing it and still being confident and you feel the need to create elaborate conspiracy theories to explain why you're right and everyone else is wrong you need help get help women who heavily embrace being trainwrecks if you see them out in a bar they're very easy to spot if you happen to be friends with any of them on social media their pages are typically cluttered with idiotic memes that are all about celebrating their personality disorders bad habits and bad decision making i wouldn't say this is looked at as cool but it's definitely seen as empowering and a matter of pride amongst those who do it littering like you are literally 99.9 of the time i guess going to a destination with a trash can in the vicinity or on the way so why unless your dog pooped in your car and you wipe with off with whatever you could find to throw out the bulk of the stench source sure that's a weird scenario that i think we could ignore but like fast food trash at a stoplight come on if you're willing to eat it in your car leave the trash in your car for another 10 minutes cars blasting loud music either in quiet neighborhoods or just in general traffic and why is it that the only people who do this are people that listen to really annoying music but you know what even on the rare occasions that i've heard it be a song that i actually like i still hate that they're doing it to begin with it's intrusive and obnoxious being punk rock i say this as someone who was really into the local punk scene for a while it's fun when you're 18 but when you get older you realize that a lot of these peoples are just angry losers wasting their lives with drugs and alcohol i still love the music i still love the ideals but god damn being a punk rock or trying to make it in a local band while still making minimum wage when you're 30 is lame give up the dream grow up get a real job acting like you're from the hood usually some suburban middle class to upper middle class high schooler 110 of people i know who actually live in those areas hated and just want to get out oh yeah and they somehow seem to know a lot less about the hood that apparently their suburb buddies do don't you
