[Music] rise up in jesus name open eyes and heal the land rise up [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] rise up do what he said [Music] it's time to rise good morning hope you all are doing well today i can't hear your responses so i'm gonna say it by faith amen awesome we're going to get right into the word this morning and it was it was interesting preparing this teaching because i was kind of asking god okay god you know what do you want me to teach on uh what do you want me to say and i felt like he gave me a title and that was it um and so everything else i kind of had to figure out which uh it's been it's actually been really interesting i was just telling brother arthaniel that uh it's awesome just seeing how god works uh in between the nine and ten o'clock services and kind of intertwines everything um and if i had to give my sermon a title i would say in this world but not of it um and i want to talk to you guys a little bit about that this morning um because well let's just jump into scripture and we'll answer why so let's turn to john chapter 17 and we're going to read from verse 6. this is jesus praying for his disciples and he said i have manifested your name to to the men whom you have given me out of the world they were yours you gave them to me and they have kept your word now they have known that all things which you have given me are from you for i have given to them words which you have given me and they have received them and have known surely that i came forth from you and they that believed and they have believed that you sent me i pray for them i do not pray for the world but for those whom you have given me for they are yours and all mine are yours and yours are mine and i am glorified in them now i am no longer in the world but these are in the world and i come to you holy father keep through your name those whom you have given me that they may be one as we are while i was with them in the world i kept them in your name those whom you gave me i have kept and none of them is lost except the son of perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled but now i come to you in these things i speak in the world that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves i have given them your word and the world has hated them because they are not of the world just as i am not of the world i do not pray that you should take them out of the world but that you should keep them from the evil one they are not of the world just as i am not of the world sanctify them by your truth your word is truth as you sent me into the world i also have sent them into the world and for their sakes i sanctify myself that they also may be sanctified by the truth i do not pray for those these alone but also those who will believe in me so this is now he's praying about us that they all may be one as you father are in me and i and you and they also may be one in us that the world may believe that you sent me and the glory which you gave me i have given them that they may be one just as we are one i in them and you and me that they may be made perfect in one and that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them as you have loved me father i desire that they also whom you gave me may be with me where i am that they may behold my glory which you have given me for you loved me before the foundation of the world o righteous father the world has not known you but i have known you and these have known that you sent me and i have declared it to them i have declared to them your name and will declare that the love with which you love me may be in them and i in them so that's jesus prayer for not only his disciples but all believers and there are a lot of instances that the the word world is in there but i wanted to if you wanted to say it this way i wanted to focus on verse 16. it says they are not of the world just as i am not of the world and again talking about being in the world but not of the world apparently there's been some confusion you know about what the world is you know people take it to a little bit of an extreme and they they want nothing to do with anything at all pertaining to anything and so it just doesn't work this way we we are in this world but we are not of it what does that mean that means we are not to love the things of this world and um actually my next scripture is first john chapter 2 verse 15. and so first john chapter 2 verse 15. it says this do not love the world or the things in the world if anyone loves the world the love the love of the father is not in him for all that is in the world the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life is not of the father but is of the world and the world is passing away in the lust of it but he who does the will of god abides forever so here uh john gives a pretty good explanation in my opinion uh of more specifically what the words of jesus that we just read in john chapter 17 and he you know the first verse says do not love the world or the things of the world and if anyone loves the world the love of the father is not in him and sometimes people take that to an extreme that it's not meant to be and like i said they don't they want nothing to do with anything but the problem with that is we are here in this world and so we're going there are things that we have to do and take care of but he answers that question right there he says for all that is in the world so this is what's in the world the lust of the flesh the lust of the eyes and the pride of life now if you think of um just about any sin that pretty much covers it and so we are to be in this world but not of it in the sense of we are here but we're not in love with the things of the world and i'm going to try and explain that a little bit more as we go along but just keep that in mind we're to be here but not be entangled with it if you want to call it that now this scripture this next scripture i guess first corinthians chapter three uh we're going to start with verse one um and i i find this scripture very interesting because uh just to add on to what what we just read in first john so let's see first corinthians chapter 3 verse 1. all right and it says and i brethren could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal as to babes in christ i fed you with milk and not with solid food for until now you were not able to receive it and even now you are still not able for you are still carnal for where there are envy strife divisions among you are you not carnal in behaving like mere men for when one says i am of paul and another i am of apollos are you not carnal who then is paul and who is apollos but ministers through whom you believed as the lord gave to each one i planted apollo's water watered but god gave the increase so then neither he who plants anything or i'm sorry so then neither he who plants is anything nor he who waters but god who gives the increase now look at verse 3 again it says for you are still carnal for where there are envy strife divisions among you are you not carnal in behaving like mere men my translation says another translation says mere mortal men uh and it kind of kind of throws you into a little loop you know it's kind of like wait a minute if we're not supposed to walk as me or men how are we supposed to walk and so it's just an interesting thought because he says here why are you behaving like me or men why are you behaving like men and so again tying this all together about being in this world but not of it we are not to look and act and think like the men like the people of the world does that make sense so we are not to be well carnal actually let me read this in the weast because i think it was just so much stronger and it will give a little bit better understanding of what i was trying to say so first corinthians chapter 3 verse 1. as for myself i also brethren was not able to speak to you as i would to those dominated by the holy spirit but as i would to those dominated by the evil nature as i would to those in christ who are still immature spiritually milk i fed you not solid food for not yet were you able to assimilate the latter in fact not even yet at the present time are you able to do so for insofar as there are among you jealousy and strife are you not those dominated by the evil nature and are you not ordering your manner of life as an unsaved man would do for whenever someone says as for myself i am indeed a follower of paul but another of a different character says as for myself i am a follower of apollos are you not mere men what then is apollos and what is paul we are ministering servants through who through whose intermediate agency you believed servants in each case in the manner as the lord gave to each of us as for myself i planted apollos water but god has been causing that which has sown to grow so that he who plants is not anything nor he who waters but god who causes things to grow so like i said the waste brings it out a little bit stronger he said he said he would he wasn't able to talk to them as those dominated by the holy spirit but as to those who are dominated by the evil nature you you see how strong that is it's it's we're supposed to be dominated by the holy spirit and not dominated by an evil nature right so again i wanted to bring that out just just to show the difference of mere men in new creation men and men that are in this world but not of it and then men that are of this world and so turn with me to colossians chapter 2. they must have moved it in my bible there we go colossians chapter 2 verse 6. and he says as you therefore have received christ jesus the lord so walk in him rooted and built up in him and established in the faith as you have been taught abounding in it with thanksgiving beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit according to the tradition of men according to the basic principles of the world and not according to christ so you guys i just want to point something out here it says beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy a lot of that has come into the church recently where you sit down and you talk about your problems and try and dig something out and something that your grandparents might have did that's the philosophy it says beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy they cheat you first of all that's not the right way to do things they also cheat you out of your finances because some of those like three hundred dollars a session anyways not going on into that for in him verse nine for in him dwells all the fullness of the godhead bodily and you are complete in him who is the head of all principality and power so again verse 8 so according to the basic principles of the world not according to christ so these are basic principles of the world that people are trying to put into the church and paul's trying to bring out in the colossians hey don't do that that's not right and yet here we are you know a couple thousand years later and we're like hey christ doesn't work let's bring in philosophy whoa hang on a second that's not right now again uh repeating this he says the basic principles of the world and then later on he says and you are completing him verse 10 who is the head of all principality and power verse 11 in him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of christ buried with him in baptism in which you also were raised with him through faith in the working of god who raised him from the dead and you being dead in your trespass and the uncircumcision of your flesh he has made a life together with him having forgiven you all trespasses having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us which was contrary to us and he has taken it out of the way having nailed it to the cross having disarmed principalities and powers he made a public spectacle of them triumphing over them in it a lot of things i want to say there but i'm going to keep reading we'll come back to it verse 16 say so let no one judge you in food or drink or regarding a festival or new moon or sabbath which are a shadow of things to come but the substance is of christ let no one cheat you of your reward taking delight in false humility and worship of angels intruding into those things which he has not seen vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind and not holding fast to the head from whom all the body nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments grows with the increase that is from god therefore if you died with christ from the basic principles of the world again there's that basic principles of the world do you why why do you subject yourselves to regulations do not touch do not taste do not handle which all concern things which which perish with the with the using according to the commandments and doctrines of men these things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion false humility and neglect of the body but are of no value against the against the indulgence of the flesh wow that was strong right now again talking about the the basic elements of the world he says why why do you go back to these basic things do not taste do not touch do not handle what does that mean well these things they're they're they're something a a carnal christian needs something to to taste to touch to feel something to sense right now we are not to be like that and look okay come back to verse 15. colossians 2 verse 15. he says having disarmed principalities and powers he made a public spectacle of them triumph triumphing over them in it and here we are talking about how we have to pull down these demons and do this thing they're around yes i'm not i'm not saying they're not here i'm not saying that they don't affect things or anything like that what i'm saying is he has disarmed them and made a public spectacle of them and triumphed over them so if you're trying to pull it out you know cast something out in your own strength or you know trying to pull something down is not even there but because we are in christ who is above these things and they're subject under his feet right now he has already triumphed over them and so we just enforce it that makes things so much easier that makes it it's it's a simple gospel it's a gospel that works right it it just it gives you freedom right it gives you this freedom that we are not to be in fear of sickness or disease or demons or anything and we are to walk this way and notice i started from colossians uh verse uh chapter two verse six he says as therefore you have received christ jesus the lord so walk in him now it's not that we have received jesus and we can and like brother othnie was saying this morning oh and now jesus just told me to pick up my feet and rest that's not what he says he said now that you have received christ walk in him so there's that part that we have to do and there's that part that is up to us right and so excuse me now in colossians we just read that that we have died to these basic worldly principles what does that mean now we are in this world not of it kind of changing my direction a little bit i've been talking you know about what jesus did and who we are in christ and that's all true but that being said there's a few examples that jesus brought up that were physical things that he he wasn't subject to those principles let me show you what i mean i don't know if that came out right but let me show you what i mean matthew chapter 14 verse 22. and i was reading i was kind of looking over all the scriptures that i was using earlier and i'm like man i might as well have just wrote up the whole book of matthew because i have matthew i don't know probably 12 13 times here so i'm going to try and not not you know not drag this on but i want i want you guys to to understand what i'm what i'm getting at so matthew chapter 14 verse 22 immediately jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side while he sent the multitudes away and when he had sent the multitudes away he went up to the mountain by himself to pray now when evening came he was alone there but the boat was now in the middle of the sea tossed by the waves for the wind was contrary now in the fourth wash of the night jesus went to them walking on the sea and when the disciples saw him walking on the sea they were troubled saying it's a ghost and they cried out for fear but immediately jesus spoke to them saying be of good cheer it is i don't be afraid and peter answered him and said lord if it is you command me to come to you on the water. so he said come and when peter had come out of the boat he walked on the water to go to jesus but when he saw that the wind was boisterous he was afraid and beginning to sink he cried out saying lord save me and immediately jesus stretched out his hand and caught him and said to him oh you of little faith why did you doubt and when they got into the boat the wind ceased then those who were in the boat came and worshiped him saying truly you are the son of god so i want you to my imagination i mean it goes a little all over the place with this story but i have a lot of fun with it because look at a couple verses i want to bring out again talking how jesus wasn't subject to the the principles of the world neither should we be but listen to this okay i'm going to summarize the story jesus told his um now when evening um now when evening came he was alone there but the but the boat was now in the middle of the sea so it's evening he's he's all alone and the boat's in the middle of the sea and he's ready to go where he told the disciples that he was he was going to meet them and so he starts just he just gets up or starts walking to where he needs to go now the water i'm not going to try and explain it physically or you know in in that kind of terms but the water was subject to him let's just put it that way because he just walked right across the water and he's walking and the disciples i mean i i don't know if the the wind wasn't you know i don't know if it was calm when jesus was walking or if he was walking it was kind of wobbling him and moving under his feet i don't know but again my imagination goes all over the place with it but let's just say jesus is walking and by by the looks of it he didn't he wasn't even going to them he's just kind of walking on by but it says that they saw him and they cried out because they thought it was a ghost and they were scared and then peter here's the thing the the next couple of scriptures i want to bring out here's the thing you guys see jesus is doing oh in this case he's walking on water right but also peter starts walking on water and so peter gets out of the boat and then you know he cries out and he's like jesus if it's you tell me to come and just like okay come uh and so peter starts coming over to him and then he starts looking around and starts noticing with his natural eyes what's actually going on and he gets scared and he starts sinking right now another thing jesus grabbed him by the hand and it says and when they got into the boat the wind ceased which is really interesting because it shows first of all that there was wind second he didn't tell it to do anything he came with the expectation of it's going to do what i need it to do and so i guess though the wind didn't bother him so i guess he was walking around kind of you know moving along on waves again this is all speculation but what i'm getting at is when jesus expected even the laws of physics to to to listen to him they listened to him now i'm not i'm not saying go fill up your bathtub and you know try walking on water i mean it was a necessity for jesus to walk on water because he needed to get to where he was going and so that's that's the way it happened and there have been stories of missionaries you know they um one particular example uh there was a village across the river that they needed to get to to preach to and they would walk on top of the water to get to it but when they had built a bridge then they couldn't walk on water anymore they had to use the bridge the whole point of that is it's got to be a necessity this isn't things for us just to play around with and be like well that was fun it's it's all for his glory right and so just a random example but anyways again showing that jesus wasn't subject to the laws of the world and then peter also he started walking on water so that shows that me or men could also do it right these are not born again christians now we are born again christians that have christ in us so what should we be able to do now the the second example i wanted to bring up was in luke actually no let's do mark chapter 11. we're going to do mark chapter 11 verse 11. i hope you guys are getting something out of this because it really helped me and i i just see i i know i've taught something similar to this before i want to take it from a different angle just because i want you guys to see this that we are to walk in the world but not be of the world right we're still here for now uh we're still here we still have to be doing what jesus told us to do but if the if the necessity or arises for us to need to do something then we should be able to do that you know speak over whether or you know whatever the case is now um mark chapter 11 verse 11. actually we'll start with verse 12. i wrote down verse 11 because it says and jesus went into jerusalem and into the temple so when he had looked around at all things as the hour was already late he went out to bethany with the 12. so just a side note this that verse 11 was jesus's little reconnaissance mission right he just went in to look around to see what was going on at the temple and you'll see why because uh well anyways we'll start reading then you guys will see why so verse 12 it says now the next day when they had come out from bethany he was hungry and seeing from afar a fig tree having leaves he went to see if perhaps he would find something on it when he came to it he found nothing but leaves for it was not the season for figs in response jesus said to it let no one eat fruit from you ever again and his disciples heard it so they came to jerusalem then jesus went into the temple and began to drive out those who bought and sold in the temple which remember in verse 11 that was he from all appearances he came in looked around saw what was going on but it was late so he came back later to do what he was going to do but he says but it says those who bought and sold in the temple and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves and he would not allow anyone to carry wares through the temple then he taught saying to them it is not is it not written my house should be called the house of prayer for all nations but you have made it a den of thieves and the scribes and chief priests heard it and saw how they might destroy him for they feared him because all the people were astonished at his teaching when the evening had come they went out of the city he went out of the city verse 20. now in the morning as they passed by they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots and peter remembering said to him rabbi look the fig tree which you have cursed has withered away so jesus answered and said to them have faith in god for assuredly i say to you whoever says to this mountain be removed and be cast into the sea and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will be done he will have whatever he says therefore i say to you whatever things you ask when you pray believe that you receive them and you will have them amen amen all right now a couple things number one verse 12 jesus was hungry right it says when they had come out of bethany he was hungry so what's jesus do he sees a fig tree it was probably the first thing he saw that he could eat off of and now what's he do he comes up to it even though in verse 4 uh in verse 13 it says for it was not the season for figgs he still came up to it why because he was expecting it to produce figs because he was coming i mean it's like jesus like there's a fig tree i'm hungry i'm gonna go eat the fig tree didn't listen to him and so what's he say let no one eat fruit from you ever again now again remember with the story of jesus walking on water first jesus did it and then peter did it and again you know jesus and then mere men if you want to call them that again they were not born again at that time now here jesus did it and he says to he actually teaches them how they can do it too he said verse 22 he says have faith in god for assuredly i say to you whoever says to this mountain be removed and cast into the sea and does not doubt in his heart but believes that those things he says will be done he will have whatever he says so that's jesus telling them why are you guys astonished that first of all they didn't produce figs but then when it didn't i told it let no one eat fruit from you ever again and it obeyed him he's like why are you guys astonished that this this thing is obeying me you can do it too if you want to stay to the mountain be removed and you have faith and do not doubt in your heart you can do it too now a final example will be matthew chapter 17. i told you guys there's a lot of matthew in this sermon but it's okay it's all scripture matthew chapter 17 verse 24. now one of my favorite stories in the bible it says when they had come to capernaum those who received the temple tax came to peter and said does your teacher not pay the temple tax he said yes that to me i was i was actually rereading this yesterday and i was sitting at the dinner table and just laughing because listen to the phrasing of this does your teacher not take not pay the temple tax he could have said no he does not or yes he does it's just kind of like yes and then the next verse says and when he came into the house jesus anticipated him saying and it goes on and so it's like in my mind the the the uh the people that received the temple tax came up to him and they're like does your teacher not pay the temple tax and peter's like yes and just walks off like if i asked that question that wouldn't have been a sufficient answer for me because it's word in such a way does your teacher not pay the tax yes so yes he does yes he does not no he does no he does not like i was just laughing yesterday anyways it to me that was just funny because he's like yes and then it says jesus and when he had come so apparently he just walked off and jesus was anticipating him and said what do you think simon from whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes from their sons or from strangers peter said to him from strangers jesus said to him then the sons are free nevertheless lest we nevertheless lest we offend them go to the sea cast in the hook take the fish that comes up first and when you have opened up its mouth you'll find a piece of money that will money take that and give it to them for me and you now again listen to jesus question he said what do you think from whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes from their sons or from strangers and peter said from strangers who are we or strangers right now jesus said then the sons are free so we're free i'm not saying that pay taxes do what's right i'm not saying you know well ruben said not to pay my taxes so i'm free no no get my point here my point is it says then the sons are free but he says nevertheless lest we offend him he said okay we're free he should take money from strangers now but here's what you do peter you like fishing go grab a pole go grab a hook a worm whatever go cast it in first fish you take open up its mouth i mean that listen to this story it's like you can't make up this stuff you know and you know i know brother curry has said before jesus told him that because he was a fisherman he loved to fish uh and of course he told him to take the first fish because if he didn't he'd probably just be fishing out there all day and you know i used to work on cars a lot and when i think about this story um and you know just thinking about my needs and and you know at that point i was still learning how to trust jesus for finances and i'm like man jesus if you did that for peter with a fish then me as someone who works on cars i should be able to open up this air filter box and instead of a filter there would be a little bit of money that i can pay my bills with right that was just kind of my my thinking but i mean just again these stories they're they're real they're true but listen to how awesome that is and it's like jesus expected okay peter here's what you're gonna do now what i think happened is jesus spoke it and so that's how it happened if jesus would have said uh you know take whatever i can't make something up on the spot but let's just say you know take the fifth fish uh and open up its mouth and you'll find the coin for us then it would have been the fifth fish and so jesus said it and it happened and so jesus said it but peter went and did it again do you guys see how i'm trying to tie jesus doing it and us being able to do it too and us being born again new creation believers jesus said you'll do the same works and greater because he went to the father amen amen all right um let's see i wanted to bring up a couple examples in in matthew chapter five um just i called it jesus's backwards thinking um and i'm not gonna read all of matthew chapter five but i didn't want to bring up a couple of things let's see so again this kind of jesus backwards thinking verse 17 it says do you think that i came to destroy the law or the prophets because some of them were thinking that he said i did not come to destroy but fulfill so verse 21 says you have heard that it was said to those of old you shall not murder and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment that's what they used to say he says but i say to you whoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of of the judgment and whoever says to his brother raka shall be in danger of the counsel but whoever says you fool shall be in danger of hell fire therefore if you bring in bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you leave your gift there before the altar and go your way so again you see jesus is thinking here he says you used to say this but i say and he picks up the bar he he raises our standards right the same thing about adultery he said you used to say you have heard it said that it was said to those of old you shall not commit adultery and then jesus says but i say to you that's almost not good enough here's what i say yeah don't commit adultery but even if you look at a woman with lust that is you committing adultery with her in your heart so again jesus is raising that standard same thing for divorce same thing for oaths same thing for you know he says that you have heard it said an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth but that's not the way we do things he says but i tell you not to resist an evil person but whoever slaps you on the right cheek turn to him the other also same thing goes loving your enemy he says you have heard that it was said you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy but i say love your enemy bless those who curse you again jesus picking up that bar he's raising our standards because this is the way that we ought to live um and there's actually a good bit more but i i don't want to i don't want to read through all of matthew i was joking earlier i might as well just have written matthew and just kind of read through the whole thing because i'm pretty much going through it all um but i hope you guys are seeing where i'm going with this i hope i hope it's coming out okay um but a couple of things couple other things i wanted to bring up in ephesians chapter 4 uh verse 28 again talking about not being subject to the world to the basic principles of the world i wanted to read ephesians chapter 4 verse 28. all right there we go sorry about that all right ephesians chapter 4 verse 28. actually let's start with verse 25. he said therefore putting away lying let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor for we are members of one another be angry and do not sin do not let the sun go down on your wrath nor give place to the devil let him who stole steel no longer but rather let him labor working with his hands what is good that he may have something to give to him who has need now i i don't want to turn this into a finances thing but look at verse 28 it says let him who stole steel no longer but rather let him labor working with his hands what is good that he may have something to give to give him who has need so why do we work the world teaches that we work so that we can have money so that we can pay for our kids college so that they can go to college and they can have a good life so that they can have a better life than us and then they can do the same thing so they can do the same thing to our grandkids and so on and so forth but that's not what jesus said that's not what the word of god says it says let him who steal steel no longer now he's not saying only thieves have to do this but all of us stole something at one time or another so we'll all fit into that category but he says let him who steals steel no longer but rather let him labor why that he may have something to give him who has need so that's why we have finances that's why we have a job it's yeah it doesn't say that so that he can only provide for those who have needs it says so that he so that he let's working with his hands so that he may have something to give him who has need now we should have enough for ourselves but we should have enough to help any person that has need of it again jesus raising the bar uh in matthew again i'm not i'm not going to turn to it to read it but he says you have heard it said this way but i say give to any man that asks right he said you give to anyone that has need now how are you going to do that if you have nothing you have nothing to give and so let us work with our hands do what is good so that we may have enough to give to others amen amen now a couple more scriptures john chapter 16 verse 33. um actually let's start with verse 31 so i don't start jesus mid-sentence jesus answered them do you now believe indeed the hour is coming yes has now come that you will be scattered each to his own home and will leave me alone and yet i am not alone because the father is with me these things i have spoken to you that in me you may have peace in the world will you in the world you will have tribulation but be of good cheer i have overcome the world amen amen now a couple of things here first of all these things i've spoken that in me you may have peace what things has he spoken well you're gonna have to read chapter 16. um he said in the world you will have tribulation so that's something that's promised us but be of good cheer for i have overcome the world now that word overcome i thought was really interesting because it's the word subdued which is very i know it's two different languages but it's very similar to the to the word that god used in genesis chapter 1 verse 28 where he says well actually let me read it genesis chapter 1 verse 28 and it's lex 27 it says so god created man in his own image and in the image of god he created him male and female he created them then god blessed them and god said to them be fruitful and multiply fill the earth and subdue it have dominion over the fish of the sea over the birds of the air over every every living thing that moves on the earth now again you guys hear that word fill the earth and subdue it jesus subdued the earth in john 16 33 he says i have overcome the world i just thought that was a really interesting correlation between the two because now because of jesus we get to walk in that dominion that adam once gave up and so now how are we supposed to live again being in the world but not of it let's turn to romans chapter 8. we're going to read from verse 18. he says for i consider that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to compare with the glory which shall be revealed in us for the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly awaits for the revealing of the sons of god who's the son of god i am if you're in christ you are right now for the creation was subjected to futility not willingly but because of him who subjected it in hope because the creation itself will also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of god now you guys hear what what he says there he said for the earnest expectation of creation eagerly awaits for the revealing of the sons of god so all of creation is waiting for us to walk like we were supposed to walk all of creation is waiting for us to walk like jesus walked right now last thing you know we talked a little bit about well let me just read it um let's do second timothy chapter two ii timothy chapter 2 we'll start with verse 1. you therefore my son this is paul writing to timothy be strong in the grace that is in christ jesus and the things which that you have heard from me among many witnesses commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also you therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of jesus christ no one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier now we are to be good soldiers for christ and it says that we are not to be entangled in the affairs of this life and that that really summarizes what what i'm trying to get out to you guys because again we are in this world but not of it we are in this world yeah there are things we have to do there are things we have to take care of but we do not get entangled in the affairs of this life actually let's turn let's turn to matthew chapter 13. sorry i keep um i feel like i need to bring out a couple of things but keep that keep second timothy in mind uh talking about not getting entangled with the affairs of this life matthew chapter 13. it's verse 1 it says on this on the same day jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea and great multitudes were gathered together to him so that he got into a boat and sat and the whole multitude stood on the shore then he spoke many things to them in parables saying behold a sower went out to sow and as he sowed some seed fell by the wayside and the birds came and devoured them some fell on stony places where they did not have much earth and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth but when the sun was up they were scorched and because they had no root they withered away and sung some fell among thorns and thorns sprang up and choked them but others fell on good ground and yielded a crop some 100 fold some 60 some 30. he who has ears let him now let's jump over to verse 18 where jesus is explaining to the disciples of what this parable means verse 18 says therefore hear the parable of the sower when anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart this is he who received seed by the wayside but he who received the seed on stony places this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy yet has no root in himself but endures only for a while for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word remember we jesus said that in this world we'll have tribulation now when tribulation or persecution persecution arises because of the word immediately he stumbles now he who receives received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word and he becomes unfruitful but he who received the seed on the good ground is he who hears the word understands it he who bears who indeed bears fruit and produces some 100 fold excuse me some 60 some 30. now back to verse 22 it says now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word now going back to first second timothy excuse me um talking about a good soldier does not get entangled in the affairs of this life why well if you do it says right here that the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word now he doesn't say the enemy does it he doesn't say you know some demon will come and do it he says the cares of this world in deceitfulness of riches now how do we not get entangled in the affairs of this world well easy you focus on jesus you focus on what brother brother othniel was saying at the nine o'clock you focus on his kingdom now how do you not how do you what about the deceitfulness of riches well go back to ephesians 4 28 that i read earlier if you come if you approach it with that mindset that i should have enough for me and i should have enough to give to others if you approach riches with that mindset i don't think you'll ever fall into a trap because you won't fall into the poverty trap because you'll know that hey i need some so that i can give it to others but you also won't fall into the prosperity trap where everything's for me for me for me i need to build it up grow it up build it up grow it up you know there's that hap there's that good balance of we we work we have finances enough for us for our needs but we have enough to give to any man that asks right so i think those two scriptures will fit pretty well with matthew 13 verse 22 about the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches now the last thing i want to do talking about the the the cares of this world and not being choked out uh not letting them choke out the word sorry not letting you know not not allowing us to be choked out by the word by the the cares of this world that could happen too i guess um now matthew 6 let's do oh sorry matthew 6 let's do verse 22. the lamp of the body is the eye if therefore your eye is good your whole body will be full of light but if your eyes bad your whole body will be full of darkness if therefore the light that is in you is darkness how great is that darkness now he says my translation says if therefore your eye is good some translations say if your eye is single and then if your eye is bad or if your eye is evil now what does this mean now to to i'm not going to read the whole thing but to get it into context jesus is talking about fasting and how people would say they're fasting but then they put a you know a face on and ash and all this other stuff no i'm fasting so they're fasting for the wrong reason so they're trying to fast so that they get noticed and then later he's talking about um or verse 19 he's talking about laying up treasures in heaven he's talking about not serving two masters so what is he saying if your eye be single if you be focused on the kingdom of god and don't let because he says you can't serve two masters yeah he was talking about money at that in that sense but you cannot serve two masters you cannot serve this world and serve jesus you can't have two masters because sooner or later you're gonna swerve off most likely in into the world now if your eye be single what does that mean if you're focused on doing the kingdom of god and again like the the seeds that we had just read about in matthew 13 being that fourth soil that good soil where you hear the word you understand it meaning that you do it and by that you build your house on rock right now that's what it means for your eye to be single it means that you you do not stray you focused on jesus but that is how you don't get entangled in the affairs of this life um that's how we are in this world but not of this world does that make sense um hopefully you guys you guys got something out of this because uh like i said we're here and we don't know how long we're here for but for now we are here for today we're here and so today as you go as you live keep this in mind yeah i know there's things we have to do we gotta go pick up food pick up groceries do this thing while we're doing all of these things there is always opportunity for us to share the love of jesus there's always opportunity for us to bring people into the kingdom to snatch them out of the kingdom of darkness and bring them into the kingdom of of light of his dear son and we have these opportunities to do that you know i i don't get people oh you know i don't have op you know i don't leave the house i work from home so this doesn't work for me put a thing on facebook it doesn't matter hey i would love to pray for anybody comment on here send me a message whatever let me pray for you there you go you just reached out to 500 friends or however many friends you have on your friend list of people that you can reach out to that you can share the love of jesus share the light of jesus be in this world but not of it because it's so easy to get entangled and and get away from what we're supposed to be doing amen not amen that's not so be it but uh but i hope you guys understand what i'm getting at and i hope this was um good for you guys but i will end with that i bless you all i thank you guys for tuning in and have an awesome week share the love of jesus share the light of jesus and be a blessing to every person you contact that you come in contact with amen
