this video thanks dashlane probable tales of survival hey kids the human spirit is a very powerful thing with the right temperament it can allow us to survive things you wouldn't believe however some people are stronger than others for example i've never so much as broke what's this i wouldn't believe however fragile wimp agile pimp so where do you all where do you think you all fall on this uh this this whatever this uh the spectrum here i don't know maybe i'm in the middle i i'm i'm middle at best some people are stronger than others for example i've never so much has broken a bone in my life haven't been hospitalized since that first time 20 years ago so i'm like certain i like calcium i haven't been hustling born with the long hair and stuff like that little eye since that first time 20 years ago so i'm like 90 certain if i'm ever forced to dance with death my soul's pussying out to the great beyond first thing on the other end of the spectrum you got guys like phineas gage gage was the 20 i'm getting a bill clinton vibe he looks like he looks like bill clinton all right let's see this guy's tale of survival five-year-old railroad worker in mid-19th century vermont he and his crew were busy gang-blasting rock to prepare the road bid for a newly planned route this involves a big hole being drilled into the ground filled with gunpowder and packed down using a tamping iron sounds being the gentleman and scholar that he is gage decides to lean forward and look directly into the hole right now the first rule of gun safety is to never look down the front of a gun everyone knows that but basically just turned the earth into a gun and decided to put his head right in front of its gaping base when you know it the powder goes off the tapping iron shoots up into his cheek moses right on through his freaking brain and goes soaring out the other side landing 80 feet away all smeared with blood and thought juice now by and large should have dropped dead immediately and been thrown into ravine for his blatant disregard for osha regulations and that would have been the end of it but i guess shiva gotama christ chan the one true god okay there's thrown in all the religions shiva from hinduism katama is the name of the buddha um and i guess jesus christ there so he's like he's like a hippie he's got like multiple arms like shiva or something and then prayer and then like the the um like meditation you know for for the buddha and stuff like that long hair like christ is this like the new deity um that's out there anyways if you want some historical context there you're seeing in vermont so i mean 1800s they're still talking about the railroad boom that was like the age of the railroad for america and there's you know horrible stories of workplace injuries all over the the railroad industry um the because yeah it was so dangerous they would use stuff like this gunpowder and dynamite which was a a big innovative thing to be able to blow through you know uh mountains and stuff like that you gotta level ground and go through tunnels and stuff like that but there yeah there was a lot of that going on you saw it in the east that you're seeing here in vermont all the way out west when you look at the um union pacific kind of railroad and and headed way out there a lot of the groups that fought in or fought i mean uh i guess you could say fight but worked on these were immigrants okay there's irish immigrants especially in the west you had chinese immigrants and those uh those were really difficult jobs um to do and not a lot of people not a lot of americans themselves wanted to really do that so a lot of those jobs yeah were given to foreigners who are coming in hoping to you know find jobs in the industrial industry and willing to take that risk you know what their life god decided gage still had unfinished business down here on out of luck three because after a few minutes of twitching on the ground he got up looked around and thought well now's a good time as any for my yearly checkup according to the doctor he went to while gage was retelling the story of what happened he suddenly started vomiting all over the place the effort of which and i quote pushed out about half a teacup full of the brain which fell upon the floor he didn't say what they did with he's okay i'm picturing his dog just running over and immediately scarfing it down then being plagued with the memories of a human railroad worker for the rest of his life this sounds like the world's worst concussion um head injuries traumatic brain injuries can you know lead to things like vomiting but his brain is spilling how's this guy conscious holy crap months following gage made a near-complete recovery physically anyway he did lose a bit of his mind which caused him to lose his mind a bit whereas gage was an upstanding hard-working citizen his untimely brain blast transformed him into an angry incoherent drunkard mumbling quote the grossest profanity whenever he deemed fit and showing little to no regard for human life whatsoever naturally he was fired from his job at the railroad so gage ended up wandering the earth earning money any way he could for a while he hung out at barnum's american museum in new york city basically making an exhibit of himself standing there with the tamping iron like hi this went through my brain bye he later had yeah basically like the old they had these old like freak shows you know the from pt barnum and back in you know a century ago or people like this yeah would go and people would come pay money to see these you know people that have these traumatic things that have happened to them holy cow i had a stint as a farmhand in california and a stagecoach driver in chile which i don't know who led the guy with severe brain trauma and no depth perception you have a vehicle but whatever over time he actually became a lot more functional until finally 10 years later when his brain remembered oh yeah i shouldn't exist leading to gage having a bunch of seizures and dying at age 36. a similar story happened with one ron hunt that's amazing though that i can't believe he survived that means brain was coming out does it show you that just there are certain parts of your brain you apparently don't need for short-term survival if you're losing that um but i've heard of that with traumatic brain injuries uh in the past that people a lot of times those people can become more violent because i don't know if it's just like a chemical reaction to their brain trying to survive that way but that's crazy and you wonder how many against stories like this are out there especially in this era of um very deregulated working conditions that you saw here during the industrial revolution where you had so many of these very traumatic injuries that happened hunt in 2003 he was an american construction worker who was drilling a hole above his head when the ladder he was standing on decided to give away leading to hunt landing face first on a 1.5 inch auger drill bit the drill went straight through his left eye and out the back of his skull the whole thing you were referencing 1.5 inches of drill looks like here's the actual x-ray that doctors took when hunt arrived at the hospital miraculously the drill ended up just kind of pushing his brain out of the way leading to no cognitive impairment whatsoever matter of fact hunt was perfectly lucid while the brain tried to figure out the best way to take the thing out of his head initially they considered cutting it out but that would have been too messy so eventually they decided to literally just unscrew it from his head like all right hold him you're like you just get the same drill and push the reverse button and then he's totally cognizant and so it it went around his very like pushed out his brain so when it screwed it and go through the brain matter it just set it to the side how is that possible is there a doctor in the comment section oh no oh you milf lefty loosey does that mean the top or the bottom what it's a rotating circle right here okay you hold on for one sec look one way the top goes left one way the bottom so which clearly the one on top why tell me why why clearly same reason north is up on the map it's just common practice all right well sorry for not subscribing to your eurocentric propaganda dan soggy anyway what were we doing if you think hunt was just a little too lucky with his incident don't worry according to snopes he was self-employed and didn't have insurance so while the accident didn't ruin his life you can sleep easy knowing that hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills and rehabilitation costs probably did our next snopes is one of those sites you can look at where they do like uh fact i guess it's like fact-checking in a way but a lot of these things that are sometimes like urban myths they go through and try to determine if it was true or not it's kind of interesting to go through snopes and see what they got tale revolves around greg rasmussen a british foreign animal conservationist who was studying wildlife in zimbabwe one day he got reports of a highly endangered rhino being spotted in the area so greg took to the skies in a single passenger plane to track the beast fate was looking down at greg that day and after a moment it said no rhino must die and a huge gust of wind came out of nowhere sending greg into a tailspin crash landing right in the middle of the untamed african bush when greg woke up he found that his legs looked like used up tubes of toothpaste so he was essentially trapped right where he was arguably worse than that was the fact that greg was dehydrated before he even took off hoping and just when things looked like they couldn't get any worse they got worse a group of elephants showed up and started harassing and straight up stampeding at greg with no other option he starts banging on the wreckage as hard as he could the elephants went and decided to leave him alone there was noise approached by a pack of hyenas and actual lionesses on the hunt but fortunately animals are all morons so the same trick worked on them too greg spent an entire day there's i think there's a lesson in there i guess not that animals are morons but make noise freak them out that way especially if you're immobile probably the only thing you can do don't try to pick a fight pinned under the wreckage fighting off wildlife severe dehydration and extreme temperatures before finally being rescued the next morning incredibly after over 100 operations doctors managed to get greggy's leggies up and running again although he was now three inches shorter which is probably for the best because now they can just stick the keys to the plane on top of the fridge so he never has another incident like this again so moral of the story us humans are resilient creatures who will do anything in our power to survive and just as greg resmussin banged on his destroyed plane to ward off predators in zimbabwe you should bang on your keyboard right now to ward off predators online with dashlane in great video from salmonella some uh crazy stories that you're hearing about there and it's like a testament to the strength and just survivability i guess of the human body that was um displayed there by these by these characters um so from the historical perspective again some of these brutal injuries can you know come uh like in the first one there from you know historically in the dust revolution in like the the 19th century um these very dangerous jobs and there was little in the way and this is pretty much global in a lot of places little in the way of kind of protections for workers and safety regulations and stuff like that because it was kind of seen as anti-business in that way and kind of a risk willing to take and that the companies themselves are supposed to be more obligated to protect their employees rather than like government oversight and of course a lot of that didn't happen and you saw um towards in the kind of the latter part of the industrial revolution you saw more unionizing and workers kind of coming together to to demand better conditions you saw politicians start to run on platforms around the turn of the century there of improved uh wages and working conditions and hazard pay and that kind of stuff but again coming from politicians there but yeah every once in a while you're still going to see in labor jobs unfortunately some of these things so make sure if you are right now working one of these kind of you know hard labor jobs or even again just like the guy that was just working on drilling probably some part of his house or something that you're always taking precautions out there and because you never know unfortunately when when accidents can happen that way all right but anyway great video there um thanks for recommending everybody that had done that and again if you liked the video um definitely hit like down below and subscribe if you haven't yet and be part of our community head over to discord if you
