how the heck do you do this what am I supposed to know how to do this hi guys and welcome back to my channel now last week I uploaded a video that is more successful than any video I've ever uploaded in a 24-hour period it's crazy I took the higher math portion of the GCSE and before I uploaded it I texted a couple friends like I don't know if anyone's even gonna want to watch this I like the concept I'm entertained by it but well anyone else yes emphatically you guys seem to love it so today to show a pretty good comparison between what students in the UK experienced when taking the GCSEs and what American students experienced when taking the SATs I decided to take the math portion of the SAT make this as legit as possible I have a number two pencil here and I even got my very own scantron specifically for this test also I hope I'm allowed this but I got myself some tea without further ado let's go first off let's put the name on the paper Evan Edinger alright I don't really care if we're using block capitals here okay the same to UK today's date it is Wednesday the 19th of June or the month first guys that is just how it is 19 19 isn't that funny exam for fun that's right we're doing it for fun an instructor will just put your mom okay we're very old here the same as last time I'm going to have my phone here with a stopwatch so you know I ain't fit the first section here is only 25 minutes and that is the non calculator I'm pretty sure the calculator section is thirty minutes and just you know just looking at this this is the first sheet of the SAT it gives you an entire reference panel with the area of a circle the volume of a cone we have the volume of a pyramid this is the stuff that you shouldn't be expected to memorize for a test you know as long as you know how to utilize it in the UK I'm pretty sure you don't get anything you just have to have all these weird things memorized well without further ado let's just jump into it Boosh oh it's double sided I forgot okay so if X minus one over three equals K and K equals three well what's the value of X well let's just sort that out by doing K equals three so we have X minus one over three equals three so we have nine equals X minus one which means x equals just bring that over ten BAM the answer is d now luckily this test doesn't matter about your work okay you just have to get the right answer that's all that matters make sure it's fully colored in okay don't any mistakes next up I equals square root of negative one what's the sum of seven plus 3i plus negative eight plus nine okay let's just make like parts go together so 7-8 what is that negative laundry i plus 9i is 12 I there's the answer negative 1 plus 12 I basic arithmetic folks off to a good start next up we have 3 on a Saturday afternoon Arman sent M text messages each hour for five hours and Tyrone sent P text messages each hour for four hours which of the following represents the total number of messages sent by omen terrowin on a Saturday afternoon also hope you don't mind is a crazy rainstorm to London right now so you might be hearing the nice ASMR rainstorm on the ceiling above but let's figure out Armand he sent M text messages each hour he's in love M text messages each hour for five hours so five hours Tyrone sent P each hour for four hours which of the following represents the total number of messages sent by Arman Tyrone on a Saturday afternoon this shouldn't be difficult I'm over H really meatless so M per hour for five so how many did he send on a Saturday afternoon how many hours are in afternoon Oh for five hours then we did it for five he did for four so we're just gonna do multiply that we get five and there goes my pencil 5m / H + 4 p / h t yes but that should be it you can't they're not like terms so it's just gonna be 5m plus 4p per hour oh so the hours cancel out it's actually five for five hours so the H is all cancel so you're just gonna have 5m plus 4p and that is my final answer yes I'm pretty certain that's the one yeah you wouldn't multiply them so that's C make sure you fully color in the bubble we're taking too long on these easy ones next up Kathy is a repair technician for a phone company each week she receives a batch of phones that need repairs the number of phones that she has left to fix at the end of the day can be estimated with an equation P equals 108 minus 23 D where P is the number of phones left and D is the number of days she has worked that week what is the meaning of the value 108 in this equation let's see so number of phones that she has left to fix at the end of the day is 108 minus 23 D where P his number of phones left and D is the number of days she's worked that week so D equals days and what's P P is the number of phones left P equals phones left and the number of phones that she has left to fix at the end of the day it can be estimated that so the phone she has left is 108 minus 23 times the day she's worked so what is the meaning of 108 108 is assumably just the stop right Kathy will complete the repairs within 180 days Hathi starts each week with 108 phones to fix that makes sense man that rain is really coming down Cathy repairs phones at a rate of 108 per hour or Cathy repairs phones at a rate of Hunter a per day none of those are correct except for she starts the week with 108 phones to fix that's B 108 that's B hope you guys are playing along at home all right good good luck next up which the following is equivalent to the expression above alright so here we have some polynomial expansion or something like that right x squared Y - we'll just do a zap zap here plus plus because two negatives and we had minus that so we're just going to zap that to a negative and then we have this was a negative so this is now a plus now that looks nice zap zap makes everything easier x squared y plus x squared Y is 2x squared y minus 3y squared and that's plus 3y squared so that just cancels out and then we have plus 5 XY squared so plus 5 XY squared minus 3 XY squared so that's plus 2 XY squared so that's 2x squared y plus 2 X Y squared 2x squared y plus 2 XY squared that is C the answer is C whoa doggie we're just speeding along H equals 3 a plus 28.6 a paediatrician uses the model above to estimate the height H of a boy in inches hey what was that now in terms of the boys age a in years between the ages of 2 & 5 based on the model what is the estimated increase in inches of the boys height each year okay so H is what we're looking for what is a well let's just if between 2 & 5 we'll just fill it in h equals 3 times 2 plus 28.6 and then we have 3 times 3 plus we'll just put quotes and then 3 times 4 plus quotes and then 3 times 5 all right so this this is actually I don't even need to do that but we'll just do it anyway because this is gonna be static so we're gonna have six nine twelve and fifteen plus twenty eight point six but that doesn't matter because looks like is he's just increasing by three each time so hey the answer is three moving on we're gonna speed along see how fast we can do this guy seven the formula above gives the monthly payments M needed to pay off a loan of P dollars at our percent annual interest over N months my master's degree coming out for this hopefully not which of the following gives P in terms of M R and n so this gives the monthly payments needed to pay off a loan that is relatable loan of P dollars so let me just put this is loan at our percent where's our where's my boy put percent interest probably yeah annual interest over n months so I put months this is just for me to help understand this which the following gives P in terms of o so it just wants me to basically just rewrite the equation so it looks like the whole thing is multiplied by B so this is quite easy watch this M oh the whole thing is times P okay okay I'm gonna divide both sides by P because that's what I want to do and then we're gonna have M over P equals that whole thing and then we're just gonna divide both sides by M and then take the reciprocal that's such a complicated way of doing it I don't want to do that I can do it the original way it's just this is a safe way for my brain right now this what I should do is just divide everything by this so basically it's M we'll do a little division sine divided by that which is going to be the same as M times with a dot okay we don't use X's past eighth grade in America come on you Brits okay so and time you reciprocal one plus R over 1200 to the N minus one and we're going to divide that by our over 1200 and then 1 plus blah blah blah doesn't matter just look for the answer like that so we have R over 1200 tops that's not it we have R over 1200 the bottom and that R plus that to the n minus 1 this is the correct answer what's this M yep M times that so the answer is B we're just chugging along here like a little choo-choo train bang next up if a over B equals 2 then what is the value of 4 B over a so let's just do a equals to B so therefore or B over a equals 4 B over just to be which equal to just - oh that's it - I hope you're already seeing the comparison between the final GCSE there and this 3x plus 4y equals negative 23 - y minus x equals negative 19 what's the solution to the system of equations system equations are always really fun so they've done this on purpose to mess us around one day 3x plus 4y equals negative 23 and then we're gonna write this - the correct way which is negative x except I want these to be I already know what I want to do so I'm gonna multiply this whole thing by x - because you know you can do that so let's just do a 4y here that's a positive and we multiplied it by 2 so this is negative 2x and then over here we have we've multiplied by 2 that is now what 38 yes negative 38 let's not mess this up now we multiply through everything by a negative 1 and that makes this a positive that makes this a negative so these cancel out and it makes this a positive so we have 38 minus 23 which is 15 equals those cancelled out and it looks like we have 3x + 2 X and that's 5x which means x equals 3 so if x equals 3 just pull the end of the original equation and we have 9 + 4 y equals negative 23 and we're gonna bring that back over there we have 4 y equals 23 minus 9 is 32 correct yeah negative 32 and that means y equals negative page so the correct answer is 3 negative 8 which is one of the options where it's gonna select B scan it in with that scantron and take a sip of tea or 10 minutes in next the functions G defined above a is a constant and G power 4 is 8 I don't have to be that way the function G of 4 equals 8 what is the value of G of negative 4 so a is a constant and G of 4 is 8 so let's just do G of 4 that way we can solve for what X is right G of 4 equals a is a constant so a 16 plus 24 which means + G of 4 is 8 so that means 8 equals 16 a plus 24 which means that negative 16 equals 16 a which means a equals negative 1 now if a equals negative 1 we just to plug that in to this equation so with G of negative 4 let's just write G of negative 4 is going to be equal to negative - four squared and that's plus 24 now negative four squared is going to be positive sixteen but then it makes it negative so we have negative 16 plus 24 which means that G of negative four is going to be equal to eight to positive eight that is an option a now this is one where I feel like I do want to check my answer to make sure because we do have a negative eight there I do think I did the correct thing here this is embarrassing if I didn't but let's just check it over really quick ax squared but a perfect yes okay I'm fairly certain that's right we're just gonna have to move on a lab have got that right there we've got in the equations above B and C represent the price per pound in dollars of beef and chicken respectively let's respect the chicken respect the chicken next weeks after July first during last summer there's too much information what was the price per pound of beef when it was equal to the price per pound of chicken so this is beef and this is chip but it wants us to do is when were these equal well let's just set them equal to each other two point three five plus 0.25 X and we're gonna do equals one point seven five plus point four oh god don't cringe it with me writing off on the page here so two point three five minus one point let's just do one point seven five right - that correct 5 minus 5 is 0 23 minus that is gonna write 5 but it's 6 right 60 yep good sorry 0.6 plus 0 equals we're gonna minus 0.25 X from both sides so it's that we get 0.15 X so we're gonna have here is divide both sides by point 1 5 so we have point divided by point 1 5 equals x now if you divide by 0.15 that cat is meowing it's the same thing as multiply what is one point five nine point one five is 3 twentieths so basically it's saying three fifths divided by 3 twentieths now what we can do here is say three-fifths times 20 over 3 the 3s cancel out the five cancels out until it's just a 4 I've done something heinous something very wrong alright we'll have to try again his time will give myself more room to 0.35 plus 0.25 X equals 1.75 plus 0.4 X let's bring that over here that means we're gonna have I want the X's on the side we have negative 0.15 X equals whoop that's gonna be negative have I done the math wrong no I did it right it's point sixty right however we can just get rid of these because they're both on the same side so we have the same thing point 15 now Nala do you calculate if this section I feel like I'm floundering like a dum dum ding I could just want to do this correctly but look at that if I can't do basic division what's going on me point six divided by so we have point six and this is not a square root science the long division sign leave me alone one five we move the decimal over two times so it's basically 15 divided by 60 the answer is four what have I done let's just put four in when X was four which is four weeks oh ah what was the price what was the price per pound so we just found X is equal to four let's just put four in four times 0.25 is one plus two 35 that's gonna be three 35 the answer is D let's just plug it in here just in case we have four times 0.4 is going to be point one six one six that to 35 yet three thirty-five let's do it D the answer is D a line how long do I have for this one twenty-five minutes alright we don't much time left how many questions Oh a line in the XY plane passes through the origin and has a slope of 1/7 which of the following points lies on the line a line on the XY plane passes through the origin here and it has a slope of up one over seven which of these is on the line zero seven absolutely not one seven absolutely not seven seven absolutely not 14 - yes the answer is D we really don't have time to check our answers because there is not a lot of time for this one okay that is one thing that's similar not a lot of time for both these tests if X is greater than 3 which of the following is equivalent to whoosh okay so X has to be greater than 3 let us simplify that we have 1 over 1 over X plus 2 plus 1 over X plus 3 this looks horrendous my gosh what let's just make sure that they're similar you know let's look at the bottom so what we can do here is X plus 3 over X plus 2 X plus 3 and we can add that to X plus 2 over X plus 2 X plus just throw those around and that means we're gonna have to X plus 5 over X plus 2 X plus 3 don't forget this is all over 1 which makes it essentially X plus 2 X plus 3 over 2 X plus 5 is that an answer well this is gonna be x squared we have plus 6 then we have plus 5 X yeah it's gonna be this one right here be bam margera let's do it okay 14 if the 3x minus y equals 12 I believe you what is the value of a to the x over 2 to the Y right well I think we're gonna do here is do one of those things where we say negative y equals 12 minus 3x and then we have y equals 3x minus 12 well if we know that what is the value of this the value cannot be determined from the information given is an evil answer I don't think there's actually think that might be the answer because look at this if I put that in there we have eight to the X which we don't know there's too many we need one more like equation to solve that 8x over 2 to the 3x minus 12 which is the same thing as 8 to the x over 2 to the 3x divided by 2 to the 12 I think either way this this has to be solvable right must be 8 to 3 X so 8 to the x over 2 to the 3x you can't separate this though I'm just gonna put D and come back to it if I have time I'm a bit upset what is the value of that 4 to the 4 why would they not yeah these don't make sense Jesus we don't have time if a X plus 2 times BX plus 7 equals 15 x squared plus CX plus 14 for all values of X and a plus B equals 8 what are the two possible values for C so a plus B equals 8 so that means that a equals B minus 8 wrong 8 minus B so we have to then put that in what are the 2 possible values of C why don't we just ignore what's going on over there and come back to 15 X can I just do 15 X and du plus 1 over here and then do 14 X so minus minus 14 yeah I think this works so at this point X can't be 14 and X can't be negative 1 I don't think that helps me it says what are the two possible values for C where is C ah oh I literally assumed I knew what C was so what did I assume she was I assumed it was one ho but it has to you know what we're gonna come back to this one I don't waste all my time on that one I know I can do it but I don't have time here if T is greater than zero and this is true what's the value of TT squared equals four oh this is this is the part we have to start writing in things T squared equals 4 which means T equals plus or minus 2 right however how do we write that it's plus or minus 2 we have to write that down right here I believe so we're just gonna write there is no option for that so I'm gonna put 2 or negative 2 goddamn Oh cuz it has to be greater than okay the answer is 2 we Circle this to move on 17 a summer camp counselor wants to find a length x in feet across the lake the lengths represented by a b eb b d and c d on the sketch are determine to be a 800 feet 40-minute feet 7 feet 8 and feet respectively segments AC and de intersect at b and that and that the same measure what's the value of x moving on I'm moving on to the next one here 1818 is that according to system equations what's the value of x okay let's solve for X immediately multiply the top one by negative by 2 and we have 2x plus 2y equals negative 18 multiplying by negative 1 and you're going to have negative x this cancels out equal laws ative oh god why am I sick I need to stop rushing 2x plus 2y equals negative 18 and then under it we're gonna put X plus 2y equals negative 25 multiply everything here by negative 1 you get that negative negative x you get the 0 and this is negative 7 so x equals 7 put the 7 in 7 plus y equal Oh what is the value of X we've already done that 7 the answer 7 and that's number 18 so we're gonna pick that set so my camera just died somewhere in between 90 and 20 I don't actually know but I hit pause as soon as I figured it out set my cameras back up and about to hit start before we go any further BAM okay so I've got 30 seconds I've just got two hundred for this one also it's 2 0 0 I've done that correct incorrectly 200 will discourage that el neck honestly I have 20 seconds to go back to 17 and I think number 15 15 is either I usually to pick a or see if I don't have time I really don't have time I'm gonna pick a if I can pick C for this one 17 I'm gonna pick a number that's here 700-800 1,400 or 1,800 I like 800 a because this was 200 know it doesn't matter none of these are actually the right answer and we're about to have time eight zeros okay that's it okay done stop we've now finished part one first impressions this is way not enough time compared to the GCSE where I did feel like I was a bit rushed this one 25 minutes geez ooh Pete okay that is not enough time for anything okay could barely drink a cup of tea in that amount of time I'm just checking to make sure I'm not going crazy it does say 25 minutes 20 questions which I should have made sure I checked that earlier that means you get a little bit over one minute each you don't have much time to check your answers and you know so far I had to guess one of these I just randomly picked and this one I just put in a random number that's there so that's what you get you know when you're when you're in this type of mess okay so now we have to move on to the next portion which is assumably going to be also not much time here we go the calculator one Oh God fifty-five minutes now I'm upset because that's gonna take a while I also don't have a calculator on me okay without further ado let's jump into it reset and go okay this time I'm going way faster because I really don't have time to mess around where is it a sheet alright I have another scantron here to go through I don't care about my name okay we'll put that in later John runs at different speeds as part of his training program the graph shows his target heart rate at different times on which interval is the target heart rate strictly increasing then strictly decriminalise in between 40 and 60 that seems pretty good so I'm gonna put 40 and 60 I'm not even going to think about it we don't have time to think in this one okay next if y equals KX where K is a constant and y equals 24 when x equals 6 24 equals K 6 so K equals 4 when what is the value of y when x equals 5 so y equals 4 times 5 which is 20 so that's C looks like there's construction happening outside my house I love the sound the ASMR construction living in London and the figure above lines Allen hammer parallel and S&T or parallel if the measure of angle 1 which is right here is equal to 35 degrees then what is the measure of 2 2 is going to be 90 I mean it's going to be 180 minus 1 whatever one is and 1 is 35 so 180 minus that is going to be 145 right 145 there's D next if 16 plus 4 X is 10 more than 14 what is the value of a sixteen plus four X is same plus four X is ten more than 14 okay just put 24 which means that 4x equals 8 which means x equals 2 so what's the value of 8 x 16 which is C wow I'm really I'm really clocking on this one okay we're not we're not messing around anymore which of the following graphs best shows a strong negative association between D and T this is a positive one this looks definitely like a strong negative correlation that one not so much we're gonna go with D I love these bubbles man fill in the bubbles one decagrams 10 grams a thousand milligrams is one gram the hospital stores one type of medicine in two deca gram containers based on the information given in the box above how many 1 milligram doses are there na to deck around container okay so they store one tube medicine in a to deca container based on this information how many one milligram dose is in to decorate a container so here we have one deca gram one will put Big D is equal to 10 G and then we have 110 with 1 G is equal to 1,000 mg so it's saying how many mgs are in two of these well we have 1000 times 10 which is gonna be 10,000 times 2 would you give me 20,000 so that's gonna be deep and then like I said we've got a rush fan 7 rooftop solar panels sounds fun the number of rooftops with solar panel installations in five cities are shown on the graph above at the total number of installations is 2020 7,500 what is an appropriate label for the vertical axis okay the number of rooftops with solar panels is shown five cities are below and this is the number of rooftop panels so what is the appropriate label so nine plus five plus six plus four plus three point five and that's gonna be equal to twenty twenty seven point five twenty roughly twenty seven point five is good oh so clearly it's gonna be one two three should be in the hundreds so number of installations are hundreds it's be cool cool for what value of n is n minus one plus one equal to zero so n minus one the absolute value of that equals negative one that's not possible there is no value there's got to be D way number 9 to 10 refer to the following information sure the speed of a sound wave in air depends the air temperature the formula buffs there's the relationship between a the speed of the sound wave in feet per second and T the air temperature sometimes I feel like I'm reading so fast and reading out loud I'm not actually taking any which of the following expresses the air temperature in terms of the speed of a sound wave forming above shows the relationship between a the speed so a is speed and T is temp which is weird cuz that's not supposed to be that's usually time so it says which the foaming expresses the air temp ah in terms of that so let's just bring it back so we have a minus 105 to over 1.08 should be the answer correct and it's a - 1005 - over 1.08 it's gonna be a number a letter a hey my favorite number which the following air temperatures will the speed of sound be closest to 1,000 feet per second so far and I so would note no scientist is using Fahrenheit which the phone air temperatures will the speed of sound which is a be closest to 1,000 so if I put the temp of let's say 50 in oh this is where I need a calculator god I've really ruined myself it's 1,000 plus let's just do one point oh eight times 50 that's gonna be what we add a zero at the end and it's gonna be 40 and 20 which is 204 right as I'm doing math real bad here oh no not 2 or 4 + that oh it's negative 50 it's negative oh so it's 1,000 1,050 2 - oh God this is where I really need a calculator you know what oh I don't have a calculator download it all God all right come back to 10 come back to 10 we'll skip 10 right now which the following numbers is not a solution of the inequality 3x minus 5 is greater you know when you run out of space on your phone and it deletes the calculator app as you're dumb all right so what's the ball me is not a solution to this inequality let's put 5 over there and we have 3x is greater than or equal to 4x plus 2 let's bring that back and we have negative x is greater than or equal to 2 and then if unable to install I don't even have space to install a calculator that's just great X is less than or equal to negative 2 so which of the following is not a solution to the inequality I mean I got negative 2 I'm having an issue let's just put negative 2 in there if X was no - we'd have negative 6 minus 5 which is negative 11 is greater than or equal to negative 2 negative 8 minus 3 is negative 11 so that actually works let's do negative 5 negative 15 minus 5 is a negative 20 and that's gonna be greater than or equal to right it has to be either that 4 negative 5 negative negative 20 minus 3 which is negative 23 is negative 20 greater than negative 3 it is gosh-darn negative 3 then gosh we'll run out of space negative 9 minus 5 is negative 14 is that greater than or equal to let's put that negative 3 in there negative 12 minus 3 negative 12 minus 3 which is negative 15 answer is yes that is okay is it negative 1 is it really the last one let's do negative 3 negative 3 minus 5 which is negative 8 it's greater than or equal to let's put that negative in negative 7 oh my god that's got to be it that's it it's a okay that's number 11 because we skipped one number of seeds for each in each of 12 apples based on the histogram growth of the following which is the closest average number of seeds per Apple okay so we have 3 times 2 we have 5 times 4 we have 6 times 1 we have 7 times 2 we have 9 times 3 that's 27 14 6 20 and 6 we have 12 we have 32 we have 46 and lastly 46 plus that is going to be what 73 divided by 6 7 8 9 12 73 divided by 12 is gonna be around 6 right like we just got a rush man the answer is going to be 6 which is C make sure you fill in those dots but I didn't believe me to barrel their team a group of 10th grade students responded to a survey that asked which math course they were currently enrolled in the survey data were broken down as shown in the table above which of the following categories accounts for approximately the 19% of all their survey respondents females taking geometry females taking algebra 2 okay so it says which the following accounts for approximately one-fifth of all the survey respondents so which one of these is about 1/5 well now if we really need a calculator okay this is this is pretty rough oh no doesn't here we go 150 plus we have three trend 310 is n so for something that is about a fifth of this what is a fifth of three ten divided by five and you get like sixty right about 62 so we're looking for something that's about 62 but a little bit less scheduling for 19% so oh no really they're really doing this is me 62 is 20% this is where you really need that calculator so the answer is probably going to be either 59 or it's gonna be 57 where I'm wasting all of my time how many times this go into it let's just say it's really interesting I can't believe I'm getting hung up on this basic stuff I mean I don't have a calculator we have 5.2 I'm assuming that means it's like 1 over 5.2 is like it's not 20% 1 / 5 is 20% so one of our 5.2 is 18% or 19 but that's the only option is slightly close so it's gotta be the 59 option the 57 one would have been a bit too small see I'm an eye I can now understand all tests are difficult okay all tests are validly difficult the table above lists the lengths in the nearest inch of a random sample of 21 brown bullhead fit outlier measurements of 24 inches is an error okay let's pretend it doesn't exist of the mean median and range of the values listed which will change the most if the 24 inch measurement was removed from the data oh this is so annoying all right I've given up I'm gonna get a freaking calculator I had to turn the Wi-Fi back on that's why I couldn't do 8 plus 9 plus 9 plus 9 I want you to know this is the literal worst I think this is clearly a trap to make me waste a lot of my time this is not how you're supposed to do this that right there is the total in this thing 262 now if we removed that 24 ah let's see will it affect the mean the median the range the most Oh oh my god it's the range oh my god that's so simple oh my god bring it back the timer you absolute idiot the range is right there see oh gosh got tricks they got shrink they got tricks up gosh ding all right 15 16 refer to the following information BAM the graph above displays the total cost C in dollars of renting a boat for H hours what does the sea intercept represent in the grassy intercept right there well that's when you had zero hours that's the start the initial cost of renting a boat yep that's the one Benna BAM a moving on which the following represents the relationship between H and C C equals 5h let's see if that was true then this would be 10 incorrect C equals 3/4 root 3 H plus 5 that would mean that when H was 2 it would be 11 well that's correct but what about when it's at 4 that'd be 17 okay I've done 2 checks and I'm moving on the answer is C sweet we're not doing so bad now ok let's move on to 17 the complete graph the function f is shown in the XY plane above for what value of x is the value f of x at its minimum so this is the function f of X for what value of x is the value f of X at the minimum if Y is f of X then the answer should just be this right here so at what value of x 1 2 3 negative 3 and that's the option that's be moving on bepah bamp bamp in the XY plane if 0 0 the origin is a solution to the system of inequalities above which the following relationships between a and B must be true this is difficult right okay even if you're used to the British way of doing things this is this is still difficult just multiple choice which of the following relationships between a and B must be true if 0 0 is a solution 0 is less than 0 plus a and then we have 0 is greater than 0 plus B so that means that a is positive and B is negative which means that a is bigger than B yeah it's greater than B we're gonna go with a kadhai 19 a food-truck sells salads who would go to that food truck for 6 dollars and 50 cents each and drinks for 2 dollars each the food trucks revenue from selling a total of 200 salads drinks in one day was pallets of good job guys how many sales were sold that day okay so 6.5 s + 2 D and that's gonna be they told they sold 209 salads so 209 of these guys and they sold a total of 209 salads and drinks in one day so s + D equals 209 and we know that 6.5 s + 2 D equals eight hundred and thirty six point five I'm glad I got my calculator now because we did x these by two which gives us 2 s plus 2 D equals 418 then we're gonna multiply verything by negative we get 4.5 s that's out and then we get equals we're gonna subtract 418 from that which is going to be four hundred and seventeen point five correct seventeen point five plus what have I done plus eighteen we're gonna use the calculator let's not flex the mental math on this one eight hundred thirty six point five minus four hundred eighteen equals four hundred and eighteen point five you see that could have a very easy mistake for eighteen point five let's divide that by four point five bam thank you calculator I appreciate you being in my life today no more no more mental math flexes on not on this test Alma great name Alma Alma bought a laptop computer to store that gave a 20% discount office original price the total amount she paid for the cashier was P dollars including an eight percent sales tax on a discounted price which of the following represents the original price Oh God so she bought a laptop and it gave a 20 percent discount off its original the total amount she paid was P dollars including the eight percent so that equals C discounted so point eight original want to put that original why not just put X 0.8 X and then it's plus the sales tax right so it's plus point oh eight point eight where is it point eight oh because it's that point eight X and then times one point oh eight that should be correct one point oh eight which the phone represents the original price in terms of P oh great so that's gonna be P over one point oh eight gosh well you also have to divided by 0.8 why don't we multiply those things together using a calculator thank you calculator saved my life one point oh eight times point a that's point eight six four it looks like point eight eight is a bit similar oh it's right here that's my answer P over those two things yes okay don't get tripped up buddy moving on to the next one we only have a couple more left I think I can do this in the time allotted very easily Dreamz recalled during one week the data in the table above was produced stop this I hate that was produced by a sleep researcher studying the number of dreams people recalled group X consisted of one hundred people who observed early bedtimes group Y had later bedtimes still hunter people if a person is chosen at random from those who recalled what's the probability that a person belongs group Y probability here we go so if a person is chosen from those who recalled at least one dream so given you've recalled a dream what's the probability that their NY so what's probably why that's the answer we're gonna be looking for the probably of why given the arm that means the probability of this probably of this given you know it's at least at least in this category now I think this is actually an easy one to do probability wise because all you have to do is add up the the things here so given that it's in this we just say let's see 11 plus 68 is 79 right 79 and then group X is 28 plus 57 28 plus 57 is 85 probably it's y given we're in this category should be 79 / 79 plus 85 + 79 plus 85 is going to be 150 plus 15 or 165 so 79 number 165 now I've done some bad math or something because Oh 164 there it is 79 over 164 and I'm fairly certain that's correct we're gonna go with C hopefully all you guys are not making fun of me because last time I was bad with that probability problem but I got it this time I used my own trick okay if you knew that trick then fine good for you I'm hella proud we shed more time for the non calc manual budgets for different programs in Kas 2007 bla bla bla don't care sure sure sure which the following best approximates the average rate of change in the annual budget for agriculture Natural Resources in Kansas the average rate of change in the annual budget for agriculture and natural resources in Kansas from 2008 2010 so which the following best represents the average rate of change in the annual budget from this to this to this well it looks like we've increased by about 130,000 and then this 100k just do the whole thing let's do the total this is increased by about 130,000 130 something's in terms of thousands of dollars add one two three and yeah it looks like 130 I'm gonna have to say we're just gonna put D cuz I want to move on of the following which programs ratio of 2007 budget - its 2010 budget is closest to the human resources programs ratio of its 2007 budget - its 2010 budget so which of the two ratios are very similar so we're comparing it to the human resources program that ratio let us bring open that calculator because your boy isn't able to do million numbers here 405 1:05 Oh divided by the 2010 1 which is five nine two one five nine two one and then we got three seven nine the answer is 0.68 so we're looking for 0.68 for what's going to be similar to that we're gonna just have to test them what looks like an increase in a very small amount not this why ways and transportation let's do a one four six eight and we got four eight two then we're going to divide that right there divide that by one seven seven three I think I did this wrong I'm apologizing already cuz this is not correct that is nowhere near it your boy don't know his math 14 and 14 and I do this correctly Human Resources is four to five what am i doing just keep going keep going up and keep going 2007 telling ten yes okay Human Resources we did that cool three seven three nine zero four divided by four eight eight 106 no not that one that one went up wait I clearly did something wrong here let's just look at the options agriculture will try that three seven three this one's taking me way too long hey the answer is that's point eight two so it's got to be education education is B I really didn't like that because that problem was a time vampire okay just sucked up all my time let's move back two o'clock so I can constantly be alerted that I'm terrified which the following is an equation of a circle in the XY plane with the center is zero four and a radius or thirds and five so we had zero for Frick okay so if I'm drawing this it's gonna be right here is the start of it at the center of the circle and a radius with an endpoint of 4/3 and five so if I move 4/3 up so here's that's 4 right 4 3 2 1 and a little bit over here and then 1 2 3 4 5 so it's gonna be around here that's quite it's quite a big bowl and it wants to know which is the equation for a circle I don't know whole I don't know this one x squared oh god I can't remember the stuff for a circle man it says this is upsetting me well if it's 0 4 maybe it's x squared plus y minus 4 squared maybe maybe that's it I have absolutely no clue with this one I'm going to put C down because I used to do a or C so we're gonna put C for 24 and I'm gonna put a star next to it so I know I can come back to that if I have any time 25 the equation above is the approximate height H in meters of a ball T seconds after it is launched vertically upward from the ground with an initial velocity of 25 meters per second hey mechanics after approximately how many seconds will the ball hit the ground so this is the approximate height T seconds after it's launched with an initial velocity of 25 meters per second so how many seconds will it hit the ground so basically when H equals 0 so 0 equals negative 4 point 9 T squared plus 25 T let's just plug some stuff in ok so when T equals 4 it's going to be 16 times negative 4 point 9 plus 100 so we want this to equal 0 5 times 16 is absolutely not going to get that because 5 times 16 is 90 so that's not quite close enough so 4 not the 14.5 though that might be enough 4.5 times that we're gonna have to open up the calculator again alright so if I do 4.5 times 4.5 equals x 4.9 equals so it's 99 points 2 2 5 112 minus 99 is not quite enough that's gonna be 13 so when we do 5 seconds at 5 seconds it's going to be 4.9 times 25 which is equal to 122 point five so remember 122 point five we do 25 times 5 there's nothing bigger than 5 it says approximately approximately it's this approximately I'm just going to have to it's got to be fun it's going to be more than 5 but I guess it's going to have to be 5 because no other thing after that kind of freaking estimate with a captain gosh-dang attached arena is a botanist studying the production of pairs by two types of pear trees she noticed that type a produces 20% more pears than trunk be based on Caterina's observations if the type a trees produced 144 how many pears did type B produced a produces 20% more and a produce hunt 44 then 144 equals 1.2 times B and then we divide 144 let's just put that in the calculator 44 divided by 1.2 the answer should be 120 that is B that's a nice round or isn't it tada a square field measures 10 by 10 10 students each mark off a randomly selected region of the field each region is square and has side lengths of 1 meter and no two regions overlap hooray these students count the earthworm's contained in the soil why what do you what are you doing go play some fortnight I don't know five centimeters beneath the ground surface in each region the results are shown cool so which of the following is a reasonable approximation for the number of earthworms to a depth of 5 centimeters beneath the ground surface in the entire field 10 by 10 they mark off a randomly selected section that each field each region is a square and has a side of one so essentially they've done 1 section 2 section 3 section 4 section 5 section and there's still 5 more this way and 9 more this way maybe what we can do is multiply this number each of these numbers by 10 and then each of the numbers by 2 so multiplying each of the numbers by 20 and I think that would be an approximately good estimate so we're gonna use our calculator here and we're gonna say number of earthworm we have the clock still go and okay just a terrify me just making sure 107 times 20 equals 2,000 140 okay it looks like the out of the options let's do 150 150 times oops 150 times 20 is gonna be equal to 3000 so essentially it's gonna be like mm mm mm mm we thought it's gonna be around C which is 1,500 let's bring it back to the clock BAM move it on I'm getting this done early just like the last one okay it's just that nan Cal really messed me up really ruin my self-esteem these system of inequalities y is greater than 2x plus 1 and y is greater than 1/2 X minus 1 is graphed in the XY plane above which quadrant Eanes no solution so if this and this is graphed which quadrant has no solutions if y is greater than 2x plus 1 let's just make a negative note sit X positive when X is positive so X plus then y is plus so that's cool says which quadrant contains no solutions all right when X is negative let's say it's an negative 1 then it's still negative then Y is negative so when X is negative Y is negative cool with this one when X is positive let's just say it's 5 then Y is positive not all the time but yeah X plus y plus and then when X is negative let's just say it's a thousand a negative thousand minus one when X is one and so that means X is positive one then it's going to be 1/2 minus 1 which means this is negative so when X is positive and small well that means it's give me quadrant three quadrant three is never used go for it be BAM for a polynomial px the value of P 3 is negative 2 which of the following must be true for px ok X minus 5 is a factor of px what okay so it's a polynomial so it's something like x squared plus 2x plus 3 or so that means let's just say it's x squared plus UX minus 3 and if we make it 3 we're gonna have 9 plus 6 minus 3 which is clearly not what we want cuz that actually equals 0 how the heck do you do this what X minus 5 is a factor of px oh because when it's 3 it's not 0 so I don't think X minus 3 is going to be an option the remainder when px is divided by X minus 3 is negative 2 I'm gonna go with D I honestly have no clue what to do for this one this is a bit upsetting compared to the GCSE I kind of always knew roughly what I was meant to do but these are these are not something I wasn't expecting ok last one of this section is which the following is an equivalent form of the equation of the graph shown in the xy-plane above from which the coordinates of vertex a can be identified as content oh gosh so it has to be like this from which the coordinates of vertex a can be identified as constants it's 1 negative 16 and that if that's the vertex then I like this I'm just gonna go with D okay we're we're at this point we've lost our will to live okay SAT is difficult as well I'm not enjoying it let's move on next up we have more of the fun ones where we have to write in the answers like this a dairy farmer uses a storage silo of course he does shaped like that if the volume of the silo oh let's let's pull up that XI thank you SAT for giving me the sheep that has all the reference numbers on it there it is all out of order but I don't care PI R squared H so PI R squared H that's the volume of cylinder and it says the volume is 72 pi so that means 72 equals R squared H what is that diameter of the base of the cylinder in yards Oh H is 8 so that means 9 equals R squared which means R equals 3 which means the answer should be 6 because the diameter is going to be 6 yards BAM ok the answer is gonna be 6 we'll just fill in the 6 right there I feel like I've missed some ok it turns out I missed this page 31 first okay so we haven't done 31 we did 35 that's cool 31 Wyatt can husk at least 12 dozen ears of corn per hour good job Wyatt why are you doing that and at most 18 dozen ears of corn per hour okay so at least 12 so somewhere between 12 and 18 good for you Wyatt based on this information what's his job a farmer what is the possible amount of time in hours that I could take him to husk 72 years at corn well in between it's gonna be 15 so if it says what is a possible amount of time in hours it could take him I mean any number in between there's correct hmm at least 12 and at most 8 based on this information what is a possible amount of time in hours well 12 times 6 is 72 we do 5 times 18 that's going to be 90 right 5 times 10 is 50 and 5 times that so 90 so that's way too much so if he does that it's going to be 4 4 times 18 is oh that's perfect good job for that so it's either 4 or 6 so I'm just gonna go with 5 it I want to do like 4 to 6 but what is the possible amount of time I think there might be 3 correct answers here yeah I'm just gonna have to go with 5 for this one I know it's either 4 5 or 6 so we're just gonna write 5 and I'm the proctor so I don't have a scantron machine should be fine he posted weight limits for a covered wooden bridge in Pennsylvania relatable wooden bridges in Pennsylvania is 6,000 pounds delivery truck is carrying X identical boxes each weighing 14 pounds I'm just gonna write 49 it passes over the bridge at the combined weight of the empty truck and the driver is 4,500 pounds what is the maximum possible U of X that will keep the weight of the truck driver and boxes below the limit so has to stay under 6 so we're gonna do here is do 14 x equals 1500 and then do since this calculator here do this and do 1500 divided by 14 the answer is 375 375 pounds now I'd like to check that but also I don't have a time so we're just gonna write three seven five three seven five perfect don't you like bubbles number of portable media players sold remember portable media players iPods a zoom according to the line graph above the number of portable media players sold in 2008 is what fraction of the number sold in 2001 2008 they sold 100 100 is what fraction of 160 100 X times 160 so x equals 100 over 160 so thank you calculator the boy can't do basic math today I'm getting used to this calculator and I'm sad point six to five which is 62 point five percent let's just check the math oh it's 62 point five percent more the number sold dozen eight is a fraction of oh no it'd be it'd be 62 five oh it's a fraction though so oh shoot I mean I could do 100 over 160 right why don't we just sort that out it's 10 over 16 which of course is 5 over 8 5 eighths that's the answer okay 5/8 5/8 saved it'll open television station sells timeslots for programs at 30-minute intervals if the station operates 24 hours a day every day of the week what is the total number of 30-minute time slots the station can sell for Tuesday and Wednesday ok 30 minute intervals so how many 30 minute intervals in a day 48 operates 24 hours a day chores Shore every day of the week so let's times that by 7 that's gonna be 336 slots per day let's just multiply that right what are you 8 times 7 36 your boy can do math oh it's bring it back to the clock what is the total number of 30-minute slots the station can do cell for Tuesday and Wednesday so times 2 is going to be equal to 672 and we're gonna move on 6 7 - I love a good sense scantron making this as ballistically as possible here 6 7 - that's correct I hope moving on to the last problem here we at last 3 problems we've done 35 the answer to that one six we're now going to 36 here's big formula for what value of X is the function H above undefined so H cannot be defined here if the bottom is 0 let's just make it so that X minus 5 squared plus 4x minus 5 plus 4 is equal to 0 oh because this 4 it's not going to be as easy as I was hoping that's x squared minus 10x plus 25 plus 4x minus 20 plus 4 equals 0 that's going to be x squared minus 6x plus 9 equals 0 which looks to be X minus 3 squared if you're asking me which means it's gonna be 3 so the answer is going to be 3 BAM next up oh my gosh from the last two homestretch we know how much time left what is the value of x in the express Jessica opened a bank account that earns 2 percent interest compounded annually that's a good job Jessica who needs Bitcoin when to get 2% initial deposit was a hundred bucks she's the expression hundred X to the T to find the value after two years so what's the value of x + x / X I believe would just be the interest rate T is the time the value of X and there should be 1.0 - I'm fairly certain because it's 2% and since it's compounding it's gonna be 1.0 - so that is gonna be 1.0 to bring in those bubbles my friend the underrated character finding nemo is here Jessica's friend Tasha Sean found an account that earns two point five percent interest compounded annually twice Sean made an initial deposit of $100 into this account at the same time Jessica mean deposit in two hundred dollars into her account after ten years how much more money will tie Sean's initial deposit have earned than Jessica's initial deposit round your answer to the nearest cent and ignore the dollar sign when gridding you respond this is it the final guy alright so that means if our expression here is 100 times 1.0 two to the tenth power and we're going to compare that to 100 times 1.0 - five to the tenth power this is genuinely what my master's degree was on like compounding interest and stuff like this so here we go fun financial mathematics calculator my friends I should have brought out my actuarial tables to help me with this one one hundred times 1.0 - whoosh sorry we know we're gonna bring out this thing do 100 times 1.0 - and I'm going to select that and pick ten hundred twenty-one point nine nine I think that might be it well we'll try now the next one we're going to do CCC 100 times 1.0 to Phi XY and 128 0.008 now that my friends now my friends is gonna do it for us what's 128 minus 1 22 minus one twenty one point eight nine nine the answer is six eleven six dollars and eleven cents more that is correct where it's six point one one six point one one alright so that is now the end of our thing I'm fairly certain we've done this we do have one starred I did skip one number ten we can come back to because I just want to write something real quick always remember to go back to the ones that you gave up on because you're a bit of a dumb no oh it's this one this this is not a fun one so which of the following air temperatures will the speed of sound be closest to 1,000 feet per second am I supposed to know how to do this so that's the formula so we want a to be a thousand so 1,000 equals so we're just gonna - that so we want negative 52 to equal one point zero eight T the temperature so 1.0 eight times oh oh my gosh divided 50/50 - divided by one point oh eight equals forty eight point one for you yeah it was big put the bead on it Bert alright man alright now we also have one more in our small amount of time left this SAT that we start and that is number 24 if we can find it in this gobbledygook there's the bay now 24 is a circle I can't remember the formulas of a circle but I know it's like X plus something y plus something square them both equals something however I don't know what that something is I think it's a plus I think it's gonna be B or it's gonna be D I really don't have much time left so I'm really gonna just have to figure this out now maybe I should just put a 2 there a or C I put C but I like a because it has 25 ninths and I feel like maybe they're trying to trick me but look that looks like a fraction I was always told never changed answer if you don't know I think we're gonna have to stop at there BAM we've now finished our SAT it is now time for the artists process of grading okay let's see how I did so I've got the test here we've got D that's correct easy to grade you can see why it's enjoyed only what 14 is D that is depressing what have I done wrong and 15 is D Wow how did I possibly do this moving on into this section here 16 the answer is 2 good 17 was 1,600 you know what I guessed on that one so that's my own fault 18 was 7 correct 19 was 4/5 or 0.8 good 20 was a hundred I put 200 how have I messed up so many this one was easy wasn't it oh I see what I did wrong it's 2 times 5 square root 2 oh I did that I'm so confused with how I messed this up square both sides oh I forgot to divide it by 2 oh my god such a simple mistake but you know you don't got time you make these mistakes this is what happens so number 20 was wrong so that's 1 2 & 3 4 or wrong in total so we're gonna put minus 4 for the non calculator section ah that's not good there's not money to get wrong okay moving on to the next part okay this isn't too bad I'm getting all these ones right Oh wrong correct wrong time I got two wrong so far why I want to know what I did wrong 22 oh I was pretty confident that oh no 22 I put D I thought that was pretty good but the correct answer was B really long dumb all right 24 oh I guess that oh my god I was gonna switch to that you know what I should have just switched oh that was no one I guessed but hey we tried our best okay next up what happened at 28 my friends what happened here what no no 28 was not B which is what I said which is quadrant three the correct answer for 28 was C quadrant 4 gosh dang 32 107 how did i botch that so bad 33 please give me a there we go five-eighths I'll take it 34 we put 90 oh god I don't dancer for 34 was 96 oh my god that makes so much sense at least we didn't get any more wrong to make ourselves cry 5 wrong minus 5 so minus 5 and minus 4 now how do we grade this okay so now we just got to add up all the stuff here that's 16 out of a possible 20 not bad because we had 4 wrong so that's 16 marks marks in the end the same margin to the points it's boy that's 16 for this section and on this section here it looks like we had minus 5 out of a possible 38 so that is 33 so 16 plus 33 one final problem we've got to do is 49 that's not so bad I hope so the total number of 49 correct I found this table on the internet which will now tell me what my grade is what is it a 690 can you believe this is not a joke when I took the SAT when I was in high school I got a 690 on the math portion I haven't gone up I haven't gone down I was really hoping to break into that 700 threshold but no it turns out I'll always be a 690 on the SAT dang how depressing but hopefully if you've never experienced the SAT before because you live in a different country now through this video you understand how it is even if you know a lot of math that time pressure really puts a lot of stress on you you can make simple mistakes and sure you can learn how to take the test and be better at it short but it's just one test it is multiple choice and boy if you don't get a good score you really can't get into a good unique but also at the end of the day free cares man 6 9 you have a 690 boy maybe it's because it was just for the means 6900 yeah so to put it in perspective to help you understand how the SAT grading system works a 690 basically is about like a seven or eight on the GCSE scale roughly not really 9 probably a bit close to an 8 so I did about the same amount of good on each test what does this mean for universities well basically if you get over a 700 you're like whoa you're good to go for most any university as long as your total of the reading plus the math is like above 1350 for the most part you're good to go but as long as you get a 600 on both the math and the reading portion you're mostly fine no matter where you go at universities that's like good to go and if you don't do that you can just reset if you took the SAT please tell me in the comments how you did and I'd love to hear from anyway it's been a really fun last two weeks I spent a long time making these videos and if you like them you can be sure to give it a big thumbs up or watch some other stuff I made over here or here pretty good stuff I'd say I mean I made it so a bit biased but hey thanks for watching and I'll see you guys next week goodbye
