I Made A City That Banned Cars In Cities Skylines

hey there friends how's it going today we're playing city skylines but we're playing a little bit weird today i'm going to not allow traffic and i'm not sure how this is going to end up so i've got this mod that allowed me to turn off certain types of traffic you can see i've turned off every type of traffic even emergency services are not allowed in this city i just don't believe in it i hate traffic pollution okay first of all i guess let's see if anyone wants to actually move in here when no traffic is allowed even the music is kind of eerie right now there's just nothing it's like a horror game all of a sudden oh wait people are moving in how'd you get here did you swim i was watching the bridge and no one came in let's go with coal i said i hate traffic pollution i don't mind any other type of pollution they're fine hey hey hey hey you can't just pull up here and park i told you no traffic clear all traffic yes you gotta make sure they don't come in here why don't they listen to me ban all vehicles apply vehicle restrictions to entire road okay surely now that should stop them the whole bridge you have to question why we built the bloody thing i don't know why i started pumping water from this place and pumping sewage into the beach but that's the way it has to be now what are you gonna do drive to my house and complain i don't think so there we go i made sure to ban it on every stretch of road just in case some of the cars that are already in the city get any weird ideas not enough fuel oh yeah how are we gonna get fuel in here [ __ ] maybe i should have gone with wind okay we're actually losing money already somehow adjust the budget to decide how many vehicles road maintenance and snow dump services okay we can get rid of that we're still losing money though we can shut down the coal plant maybe save a bit more money okay still losing money though oh wait we got 20 bucks 50a a functional city how much does another wind turbine cost i need another three grand to buy another one the city isn't even being powered imagine moving to this new city and they're like oh by the way we have banned all vehicles and we don't have enough power for the entire city in fact it might be best if we convert to an amish culture just to get out of this messy situation wait i can change the name already oh car's bad that's the name of the city honestly can you just blame god instead of me he's the one that's not giving us enough wind like it's nothing to do with me there's a flood okay and now we're really gonna be pissed off with god he's being mean how is there a flood i don't see any floods oh that looks bad that's a lot of pollution but yes cars are the problem i think i built them in a dip so it's not even generating that much wind i'll put the next one up on the hill you live and learn right unfortunately for the citizens i'm learning on the job but look i can afford another one there you go oh yeah now we have loads of power honestly who could have known if you built a wind turbine in a valley where there's no wind that it wouldn't generate power who knew this is so complicated okay the good news is is that we have enough power the bad news is a lot of people got pissed off that we had no power for so long and they left but that's okay we don't want any cry babies in the city anyway i have so much space yet i still find it necessary to demolish this person's house to make more road also your houses are too small i want big houses in my city goodbye i'll just say it's because they owned cars that's a good excuse this was williams highway i'm changing it to walker highway because i think it's witty unfortunately i need to name two of them so this one's just going to be called no cars highway it's not as creative look i know you want water but i don't have it yet okay water costs money what do you think we can just truck it in i don't believe in trucks here i can give some of you water does that help you know what [ __ ] it you're complaining you lost your the house privileges god i'd be a bad parent god the sound of demolishing a neighborhood it's music to my ears i can't even get to 400 population to get the first milestone even though it's climbing slowly i think now that i've demolished them the higher density houses are coming in you know in hindsight i probably shouldn't have built the city like an entire one-way system going all the way around because some people have to run a long way just to like get to a shop oh god i don't have enough power again can someone just go out there and blow on it all day maybe all of you could go out there and just give it a little bit of a blow every now and again it would create a lot of jobs in the city a lot of bloat can't say you know what i think is holding me back the fact that we can't have any freight i think i might have to allow trucks that horror music is getting pretty intense so i might do it now before something bad happens still no emergency vehicles allowed just trucks all right there we go now trucks are allowed oh my god look i'm speeding through the city we're not gonna have any traffic incidents anyway well we might have some pedestrians to get knocked down from the speeding trucks but we're not gonna have any traffic issues with the backlog anyway all these trucks are finally allowed in for the industry like the industries at the back of the town as well there's no way they can move stuff around and look at that spike we went all the way up to two increasing population this week oh three wow i'm getting a bit of a rush on this my adrenaline is pumping that means we can probably turn on the power plant again right so much for green energy but hey with all the cars banned we should be fine oops i expanded without giving them water again oh dear at least they called the city cars bad and not trucks bad because that would have been very embarrassing for my political career you know i know there's been a lot of embarrassment so far specifically the wind turbines and well just everything but that probably would have tipped everyone over the edge i would have been ousted oh no i'm going into the negative what happened could i take a loan or something i don't think so yet i'd only have proven myself as a mayor to get a loan at the moment okay i'm earning money again and i'm not sure why i didn't do anything but i just hope it keeps going up i think maybe because these people just abandoned their houses less people to provide for i suppose why am i living in this depressing city you know what jeremy jones that is a good question like no one's forcing you to live here you chose to live here despite all the rules and downfalls you know what it is we're losing money at night can we ban nighttime in the city please okay i got enough positive in the day to fix the water issues so that's good this is fantastic news a city that can't function at night we may as well be afraid of the dark except we actually have very good reason to be the city almost collapses every night go to sleep and you don't know if your family will be there in the morning it also doesn't help that i'm demolishing loads of buildings as we go i don't think i'm inspiring confidence in the city see look it's raining now why don't you just store up that water and use that instead of me having to pipe it to your house like that's super inefficient way of doing things all these poor citizens just having to walk everywhere in this torrential rain honestly i'm surprised they don't just buy trucks i know it's probably going to be a bit expensive but the convenience alone is probably worth it i'm beginning to think that horror music was foreshadowing earlier like this is not going well at all there's a flood in your city now for effects sake it's like you have too much water or you don't have enough water just deal with it wow i did it although it is a bit weird that the like fireworks have gone off celebrating and that darn horror music is still going but most importantly we unlocked loans i had to leave my game idle for a while to do this by the way to build up some money and slowly build up like i'm going up two citizens a [ __ ] week all right let's immediately start bulldozing some buildings and building some more i dipped under 400 immediately everyone hated that oh trash is an issue can you just like i don't know flush it down the toilet or something i don't have any resources to help you with this like the city is trash just throw it anywhere no one will notice all right fine i'll build a landfill sorry you guys i know you've had a rough time being out here in the outskirts in truth i don't even know why i built the road that way but now you have a landfill too wait can i set the speed limits i'm setting the speed limit to 10 on this chunk of the highway hopefully we can get some speeding tickets they have to slow down so much as they enter we just have to verify that they are indeed trucks and not two cars in an overcoat hashtag this hashtag city hashtag sucks period well your hashtagging sucks or even i've destroyed a city and he's using hashtags wrong and i see those things as equal why is god angry at me in every game i play first the wind then the rain now the lightning see these are the type of social posts i like everyone else is complaining like when are we going to get a school this one's just like fish how are my citizens so unhealthy if they're walking all of the time i thought walking was meant to be good for you they just always want more residential but i just can't build it i can't afford it you know what let me go to the bank if they trust me with the money it's their fault yeah 20 grand i'll take it and i'll invest it all in residential housing just tear right through the city who gives a [ __ ] oh no it's nighttime again spooky zoink scoob we're hemorrhaging money school do you think that'll make people move here i might try it might actually try improving the city and seeing will that encourage growth i don't do it lightly i didn't really want to make this a good place to live i just want people to live here how's that for a dense idea i was just sticking houses where houses really don't have enough room to go i've spent all of the banks money i hope this paid off honestly this looks like it should have a way bigger population than 479 okay 480. yeah that seems reasonable yeah that's about right no but seriously this looks way bigger than a town of 400 and something people they produce a lot of sewage for a town of 480 people do we think there's just people living here that are just not reporting themselves on the census they're just avoiding taxes yes that's it it's not me that's at fault it's the people who are wrong the school was a terrible idea i'm losing money now where's the school i want to shut it down there you go building turned off what what's wrong with you this is where you draw the line what i won't teach you things if i teach you things and make you smarter you'll realize how stupid i am and you'll take over okay time to raise taxes i'm sorry but you just have to pay your fair share there we go that fixed everything god i'm a genius just passed the burden on to the less fortunate the tried and true method i like this one person doesn't have water just [ __ ] you specifically in the whole city i don't even have the 60 dollars needed to get it to them all right if you force people to live like on top of each other and next to a landfill there's actually a lot more room than i thought to increase density we're going to be a town in no time look at this beachfront property prime for the taking ignore the fact that it's full of [ __ ] it's just a metaphor because the town's leadership is full of [ __ ] i can't believe this is actually starting to function like we're we're making money the population is going up albeit very very slowly but it is going up as i gradually expand i'm well on my way to being a worthy village one over-educated worker how is that possible oh not enough customers look my city is very healthy all right they love walking not big bite burgers i'm still confused how you're possibly over educated when i have no education here i have the elementary school but if you're saying an elementary school student is overqualified i don't know what kind of work you're looking for oh my people have discovered fire unfortunately they haven't discovered how to put it out though i don't have a fire station or anything i don't understand how i've so aggressively expanded and my population is going down like where are they leaving from i wonder if i took out another loan and i built a hospital would they like that well they would like it but would it help my population i should say i don't really care what they like or dislike all right so emergency services can go around this section but they're not allowed leave the city or cater to this side because i'm just too lazy to change the rules to be honest and i don't want them helping out other neighborhoods so it's better they can't leave the city oh jesus we're hemorrhaging money now i knew i shouldn't have introduced healthcare you know i really thought we could become a worthy village but i'm starting to doubt that's possible we're hemorrhaging money and we're hemorrhaging people the thing is i can't even get enough people in the city to unlock things to make money with like i would love to start drilling for oil and such and you know abuse the natural resources that we were gifted but it's just not possible right before my city completely collapses i'm very curious if i just allow all traffic all of a sudden what will happen to the city okay they did give me a bailout let's let's see if i can fix this i think all this should be fine i don't know how vehicles are even gonna work in this city the roads are just perfect to be honest but they're all allowed now i've saved it beforehand let's see what happens i instantly went up toward the village that makes no sense it just clicked i'm gaining 428th population now holy [ __ ] the city is flying up now now we're a tiny town this is all within a matter of seconds mind you like we're going up 900 a week all of a sudden instead of going down like four the weird thing is even though i've allowed traffic no cars like we're still going along with the city's slogan car is bad yes the city's slogan is also the name of the city we don't talk much so we're not pretty good with words or a boom town oh now the cars are coming in my 10 kilometer per hour zone is definitely slowing down traffic yeah all of a sudden everyone wants to live in this city like the population is increasing hugely my money has increased a massive amount now all of a sudden we have no power crime is rampant and fire is everywhere this is why i said cars were bad people i tried to warn you but you wouldn't listen astrologers report that a devastating meteor will strike the city in the near future you see i warned you this is the sort of thing that cars bring natural disasters and yes they are natural it's just a coincidence that they all strike at once and that they seem to be directly impacting the cars like specifically where i told them to go slowly it's totally natural i think i've proven my point that it's better to have a city without cars oh what a great day of being the smartest man alive but i think that's enough for now so thank you very much for watching if you enjoyed consider Cities Skylines insistence on cars everywhere, sprawling suburbs, Euclidian zoning and no middle housing is why I stopped playing it. No way to actually build a city the way I want it, or the way they look where I live.

Hoping Cities Skylines 2 rectifies some of this, but that might be too optimistic.

I tried a mod that adds zonable pedestrian roads, encouraging walking over the private car. At around 50k populace, too many private cars began popping up, and I had NO public transport at all. If everything is walkable, you don't even need public transport. However there certainly is a point where it's needed (when the city just takes so much space that going around just by walking isn't viable anymore)
