this is just a quick video on how to preserve beans and rice in 2-liter bottles 2-liter bottles are food grade and they're obviously pretty good quality because they keep carbonation in the soda and each one holds quite a bit of food you can see if you're storing white rice each bottle holds about four pounds and beans give or take four pounds I bought my beans and rice at Costco you get a 25 pound bag of beans for about $19 and a 20 pound bag of white rice for $11 I believe and then you get these oxygen absorbers right here to make them last even longer so that they'll last indefinitely just drop one of those in each bottle I'll put a link below where you can get those and what you'll need in order to do this project is obviously your beans and rice a bunch of empty two-liter bottles or juice bottles you see have some juice bottles there in the back the bottles with the rubber seal inside the cap so that they'll seal good keep oxygen out a big bowl a couple funnels and a couple cups so you can see what I'm doing here you can use the cup to dip the beans or rice out of the big bowl and then pour them in the funnel so as you can see I've got my cup and some beans in my hole and I just threw a scoop of beans and the beans don't go quite as quickly as the rice you have to go easy on those or they'll Jam the funnel as you get towards the end and the bottle is full just tap it to get it to settle and push as much air out as possible before filling it the last little bit that way you get as much product in there as possible and this little air and weigh the beans and rice last as long as possible so once you've got your food in your two-liter bottles and you're ready to put in the oxygen absorbers go ahead and open them but don't open them until you have enough bottles to use them all up because they'll start absorbing oxygen right away and what you want to do is roll the oxygen absorber up gently you don't want to break it or fold it in sharp corners because then it might actually spill some of the contents into the food you don't want to eat that you roll it up just small enough to fit into the cap if you need to push it down in the food a little bit do it gently tap if you need to and once it's in there where you can get the cap on screw the cap down tight for a good seal because you don't want to take the cap off again until you're ready to use the food so I wanted to show you how to tell if your oxygen absorbers are working and if you have a good seal as you can see in the top of the bottles I have oxygen absorbers and this is overnight the bottles have collapsed in as they've absorbed the oxygen and you could tell the seal is good otherwise it would be just sucking air through the lid so I think you can see the dents there where the bottles have collapsed in on themselves and in case you are curious I choose to use 300cc oxygen absorbers and they come packaged in a 22 a pack here if you order 50 at a time you get two packs of 20 and a pack of 10 and so try to have enough bottles ready to put the oxygen absorbers in before you open the oxygen absorbers because as soon as you open them they start absorbing oxygen and I will put a link below where you can get these oxygen absorbers for the best deal I've been able to find
