[Music] hello some pilots and welcome back to another microsoft flight simulator video today's tutorial is a cold and dark startup of the flyby a320nx taking it from powerdown at the gate to ready for texting out to the runway and for a full flight we will be using this checklist which is available on flights m.t.o if you would like to download it and follow along check the link in the description below go ahead and grab it and maybe print it out for easy reading with that done let's jump to the flight deck and get started now in the real world you would very rarely find the aircraft in what's called a cold and dark state like this these aircraft usually fly up and down all the time so we'll usually get it in what's known as a turnaround state with some systems running on the ground power units or on the apu but maybe this is the first flight of the day or the aircraft to just return from maintenance and then you will get it powered down like this however in the sum if you select to start it okay to a stand and not on the runway you will need to power it up and that's what we're going to do today so let's bring up the checklist and get started so for the cockpit pre-flights there's a few things we need to do before powering up the aircraft so we check that the parking brake is on the flap lever is an up position the spoilers are retracted and disarmed the weather radar and predictive wind shear is set to off the engine mode selector is normal engine master switches one and two are off the landing gear is in the down position we wouldn't want to turn on the batteries and landing gear razors that would be a very expensive mistake and finally the wipers are set to the off position also because we don't want the wipers moving when powering up the aircraft as they could scratch a very expensive windshield if it's dry and it's got dust or dirt on it with that done we can continue with the cockpit preparation so we'll move to the overhead panel so on the overhead panel we can start with the battery so battery one and two can go on the batteries provide some power but not really enough to power up all the systems and they drain quickly so we need another source of power and so for that we use the either the external power via a ground power units or the aircraft's apu for now we'll use the external power because here you see we have external power available and it's basically a grand power unit there's an external generator at the airport which plugs into the aircraft to provide it with power so with that available we'll click that to on you can hear it's powering up some of the systems okay moving on we checked the cumulative and brake pressure down here so we can see we've got pressure here this is the hydraulic pressure applied to the brakes next we can select the cockpit lighting and display brightness so we can turn overhead integral lights up and come down here we can turn on the fcu lighting and the brightness there we can turn up the display's brightness for the upper lower ecam and over here we can turn up the brightness for the nd and the pfd and you can do the same on the first officer's side and down here you can turn up the integral lights so with all the lighting sorted out there let's continue down the checklist we'll do the apu fire test because he has the apu fire test push that and you get the warning actually if i show you the display here let's do this bring that up there we get our warnings and our ecam messages so what we will do is we won't turn on the apu yet because we have external power so we'll skip that on the checklist and we'll move back to that when we are ready to start the engines okay next on the checklist back up to the overhead panel crew supply it's the true oxygen supply that goes on cockpit voice recorder test i don't believe that is modeled yet we can set eight dos one two and three to nav exterior lights we put on the maven logo lights we'll leave the wing lights off because it is day time the beacon light stays or for now the strobe light can go to auto that way when you take off the strobe lights will immediately come on no smoking slash portable device can go to auto emergency exit lots armed enunciates a large check so here we have the enunciator lot so turn it up to test it and we'll see all the lights come on and make sure they're all working and then you could leave it on either brat or them i'll leave it on price especially during the day otherwise it's hard to see them okay probe and window heat is on auto that's there leave it on auto apu available we skip that we're not using the ap aircraft temperatures that is required so these are your temperatures for the air conditioning so you can adjust those as necessary ecam page electric batteries one and two off then on so we go down yet to the lower e campus page we'll put it on electric and let's go back to the overhead and we'll put the battery one and two off then on let's get that display up here so if we put battery one and two off you see we got no power from the batteries but we still got power running from the external power i'm not quite sure the reason for this check perhaps video of you know you can leave a comment below and tell us why we do that check okay moving on next fuel pumps all off engine fire tests perform so we can do the same thing with the test engine one test engine 2 test check for remaining white lights and extinguish we don't have any remaining white lights except for the fuel pumps but we'll leave those off for now okay let's move down to the fcu flight directors one and two on barrow who said q h is the current q and h is let's put on the floor plate and check our current q h from gatwick is one zero two seven so we set that one zero two seven you could also press the b key and if you're flying in america you would use inches of mercury in europe we use hectopascals okay ether's constraints can go on ark 10 nautical miles the fcu speed is required heading as required altitude initial climb so we haven't set up the mcdu yet so we'll go ahead and leave that as it is for now but we probably will be using managed mode for all of these okay radio sets up you would set up your radio so yeah you would put in latest frequency and listen to the asus and maybe and maybe in the standby frequency you would put the ground frequency that's perhaps if you were flying on vatsam you could use that there okay mcu today so check so let's go to the mcdu okay so we're checking the data there's our engines there's the current active nav database so it is current for now next we have mcdu setup so i'm not going to go through setting up the whole mcdu i do have an mcdu tutorial on my channel if you would like to have a look at that check out the link above and you can watch that so for now all i'm going to do is just gotta go through this quickly so we have some flight loaded into the mcdu so i'll start with just loading everything in very quickly go through all of this in a data request it's going to load my last flight from gatwick to amsterdam go back wait and balance load the fuel payload we can start boarding let's go back so nsa in it request flight plan there's the flight plan let's stick a departure in there so from catwick departure that's two six right that one inserts that's in there so that's the flight plan done secondary flight plan not intermediate read nav we will leave it out for now in it be page block fuel 4620 so we'll put 4.7 rounded up to 4.7 zero fuel weight that's still busy loading the passengers okay it looks like that's loaded in okay we are full we're loaded in so next on the checklist we have rad nav sets up so we have a departure that uses vrs or adfs you can put that in there for reference and then for our frame one mic departure we have the vr of begin and we also have the detling vor if i bring up the charts and show you our departure there we have big and hill vor and here we have the decling vor so we can put those in for reference on the rad nav page so you would put in the frequency one one five point one for begin and then you would put in 117.3 for declining br okay moving on ifr clearance we have received irs are aligned flight plan is reviewed so you would review your flight plan make sure everything looks good make sure there's no discontinuities you could even step through it on the navigation display by changing this to plan step through the follow-up and make sure everything goes to where it should if navigates that would that was this for the red nerve page so you'd switch on vr1 and vr2 and then you see in the corner here it would display their distance to them this one's a little bit far away and it'll give you pointers as well on the nd there it's pointing to one of them and the other one as well at takeoff briefing you would do a takeoff briefing with your first officer you would discuss the sake of runway the departure any special requirements the weather etc squawk you would set your scorecard here in the transponder so hc would give you that when they give you your ifr clearance moving on down the checklist we have pre-startup so this is where we're going to start the apu and we are going to get ready to start the engines on the overhead panel here we have the apu master switch so that can be selected to on you give it about three seconds and then you start the apu now you'll see flap open there you have egt rising and run rising if you go outside you'll hear the apu it's very light okay while that starts up let's continue performance page we'll put in the transition altitude for our departure which is six thousand feet flaps for takeoff we're gonna do a flaps one take off and then we'll our v speeds v one one three five v road so it's one three six and v two one four zero okay that's our v-speed's done mcu take off performance is checked v speeds v1 v rotate and v2 okay apu if a3u is available apu bleed on so we go back to the overhead there it says apu is available so what we're going to do now is we're going to put on the apu bleed and we need that to start the engines this uses the bleed air from the apu to turn the engines for engine startup okay so now with that now we can disconnect the external power because now that power is being provided by the apu so external power can go off seat belt silence on air conditioning is as required on to push back and start up for pushback and side up windows and doors closed and locked so if we have a look at the door page see all the doors are closed if they're not you'd have an orange messenger and show you which door is open cockpit door closed and locked so we can lock the door there we go cockpit door is locked all the fuel pumps can go on beacon light can go on that will tell the crown crew that we're about to start the engines and they'll clear themselves and everything out the way steering pin inserted transponder to auto tcas is on standby clock run parking brake as required so let's let's get ready for engine starts so you have two options you can either do the push back and then start the engines or you can start the engines during the push back so let us do the pushback first and then we will start the engines you have a few choices for pushback you can either use the built-in pushback or you can use the push back on the fly pad here or you can use a toolbar pushback i use the toolbar pushback over here so we can go start pushback you can adjust the tag speed and select reverse so what we'll do is we'll release the parking brake parking brake is off and we can start the push back so go reverse okay once push back is done you can set the parking brake so now we're ready for engine start so we got engine mode selector to start engine master 2 on we monitor the engine page so n2 rising there's into 20 n1 rising egt rossignon [Music] okay there we go engine 2 is available so we'll do the same thing we'll start engine 1 and 2 rising wait for 20 we'll see n1 rising the n1 is rising and egt rising [Music] and there you have it engine 1 is available so let's continue with the checklist engine mode selector normal apu bleed off ap master switch off nts that's required it's not required on to the next page the next page is the before taxi checklist so auto break to max spoilers armed flaps take off so set flaps one engine ncr says required it's not required we'll check the flight controls flight control page so we'll take the side stick and we'll go a full left neutral full right neutral full up neutral full down neutral right neutral right or left neutral and that's our flight controls checked pitch trim you would set here according to the aircraft cg writer trim reset steering pin removed and with that you are ready for taxi no slot goes to taxi runway turnoff light goes on strobes on auto parking brake off so you would release the parking brake here's your take of config button so it checks everything here make sure you have no blue anything that's blue is cabin check so to do that up on the overhead five tennis please prepare for takeoff there we go no blue so with that done you would taxi to the runway and then you would do the before takeoff checklist okay so once you are holding short for the runway you're ready to do the before takeoff checklist so we can start with the cabin crew have been notified exterior lights all on so up on the overhead panel landing lights go on nose light goes to take off strobe lasts can go on or you can leave them at auto they'll go on automatically you can put the wing lights on if you want anti-ice as required it's not required packs is required t-casts so on the pedestal above t-a-r-a where the radar can go on predictor wind shear can go on weather mode as required take off memo and here you can see take off memo we have no blue so we are ready for takeoff and with that all that's left to do is enjoy your flight guys i hope you enjoyed this tutorial on a320x starts up if you did please give us a thumbs up consider subscribing for the next one thanks for watching and i'll see you in the sky [Music]
