on today's video we're going to go over setting up a slip bobber ring hey they're all Tour youtubers Steve kinetic from kinetise practical outdoors and I know all you guys have fished with these styles of bobbers before right this conventional clip on style bobbers you know for most of us this is maybe some of the first fishing we ever did as a kid with these clip on style bobbers worms that sort of thing and you know through history that style of bobber literally it's probably caught millions of fish right but there is some limitations to the clip on style of the bobbers and that's kind of where the slip bobber comes into play slip bobber they're a little bit more tricky to set up but they have one huge advantage over the clip on style bars and that's that the slip bobbers can be fished at a very wide range of depths and I'll just kind of show you what I mean here we've got this old school style bobber here set up and we've got it set up on this old school style Pole here thought that'd be appropriate for this demonstration but if you think about it you know this hook you know we probably put a worm on this hook this hook is about two feet below this bobber and you know if you're going to catch a lot of fish two feet below the surface if there's a lot of fish two feet below the surface that's perfectly fine right but what if we wanted to fish ten feet below the surface what if we wanted to fish 20 feet below the surface you know if you can imagine what we'd have to do is take this bobber and adjust it so there'd be 20 feet of line hanging off the bottom of it and you know if you think about it it would be very difficult to pick this rod up with twenty feet of line hanging below the bottom and cast it out and fact it would be very impractical you know if not impossible so that's where a slip bobber comes into play so how this bobber stop stuff works and I set one up on this really heavy black Dacron line hoping maybe you can see it a little bit better but anyways here's the stop right there and the idea behind it is the stop just needs to be a little bit thicker diameter than the actual line that it's on so then when the stop comes in contact with this sliding bead the bead can't pass through and then when the bobber comes in contact with that Mead the barber can't pass through so it actually stops this whole rig from sliding any further you can imagine you cast this out boom your jig it's water the sinker hits the water it starts sinking sinking until the bead and the stop come in contact with it you know keep in mind that this stop is adjustable so you could take this stop and you could run it 10 15 20 feet down the line and then the distance from here to your bait or jig at the bottom can be 10 15 20 feet and you know that's something that's really not achievable with a conventional clip-on bobber it would just be a way too cumbersome to try and cast it clip-on bobber with 20 feet hanging down below it so the real trick behind these bobber stops is they have to be bulky enough that when the bead comes in contact with them the bead can't pass through because the bead is what stops the bobber from passing through so they have to be bulky enough to stop the bead but they have to be small and low profile enough because you're going to be reeling them up some of the guides of your pole you're going to be reeling them up onto the spool of your reel and then you're going to be turning around and you're going to be casting it back out so this bobber stop is going to be coming off the spool on your reel back from the line guides and on into the water so you can't have something too bulky but of course you can't have something too small so that's kind of the trick with these bobber stops is to kind of get the right one that sort of works for you that holds its place on the line good that's adjustable and movable and of course stops your bobber and I got a few different styles here we'll kind of go through those this is one style of bobber stops these little rubber football types okay guys here's an example of how you would put these little rubber football type ones on a line what you do is you take the line run it through that wire loop on the end and then you just kind of grab the little football between your fingers grab this tab and then just kind of pull it away and what it does is it pulls that line right through the little football so now you've got this stop on your line another style is this speed stop brand and as you can see there are little plastic ones I call them dog ball and style and kind of look like a dog bone to me what you do is you run your line through one hole twist it around a few times and then out the other one another style are these string ones okay guys here's an example of how you use these string bobber stops just run your main line right through the straw and then what you'll do is you'll take the straw and the string and separate them pull the straw right off then you can discard it so now you've got this little Slipknot string on your mainline and you just pull the ends tight and I use this heavy black line so you can see it a little bit better and then all you do after that is just cut these tag ends off and there you have it and then another taper these little plastic four whole ones these are actually my favorite ones to use and what you do with them is you just weave the line in and out of all four holes and then that acts as a stop the small little rubber football style ones they hold their place on the line real well and you can move them up and down monofilament pretty easy so they work well from that standpoint the one problem I run into with them is if you do have to reel them up through all your line guides and up onto the spool of your reel sometimes when you go to cash back out that line will get get snagged on that that rubber stop you know I think they're not quite as low profile as I'd like they stick up a little bit and your line will get snagged on them sometimes caps you know so I really don't use those for that reason the other style the speed stop or what I like to call the dog bone style the small plastic to hold Batra stops they work well they hold their place on the line and they're very castable they reel up and down the your line guides really they don't cause any problems when they're when you reel them up onto the spool and caps back boat they don't really cause any problems but where you do kind of run into a problem with them is if you go to move them a pretty good distance because they go through one hole wrap around and then through another hole when you go to move them up and down your line they just kind of twist your line up and that's just that's just kind of a problem I just don't want to deal with if I have to move them you know if you're moving them six eight inches it's no big deal but if you wanted to move them like ten feet it can take a while to kind of move them a little bit untwist the line move them again so I generally stay away from those stops because of that you know the other one the these string style ones those string style ones are very popular I know a lot of you guys out there use this string style I just I haven't had that good luck with myself one thing that happens is they seem to go loose on me pretty easy and then they're sliding up and down the line in them I'm losing my mark I'm losing my place on the line I got to reset them and if they're not doing that I think sometimes if you use them a couple trips you go fishing a couple times they get wet then your eye out you go fishing again they get wet and then they dry out I think sometimes they kind of cinch down on that model so tight because of that that I can't even move them you try to move them in they're just they're just locked down on that model and you know of course that's that's not ideal either so you know I generally go with those four hold small little red plastic ones it really worked good for me you can adjust them up and down the line with a very little issue they're very castable and they work so that's what I've been going that smites top is the four hole plastic and that's the style of stop I have on this pool here this pole is a seven foot long pole which is perfectly fine for slip bobber fishing ideally probably eight and a half feet is even better I do have one eight and a half foot rod that I dedicate the slip bobber fishing but you know you guys have heard me say this before you know this is Canaris practical outdoors right sometimes I'm loading up to three kids in my boat we're going to go out we're going to slip bobber fish or an anchor or a weed bed so we're going to be casting out you know maybe six rods all different directions well I don't uh I don't have an arsenal of nice eight and a half foot long rods and I can dedicate just a slip bobber fishing so you know a lot of things I'll just use these seven footers they fit in the boat a lot easier a little bit easier for my kids to cast their own and they work perfectly fine like I said if you're really into it you know having that longer rod is really good you can cast things a mile with them it's really good you know sometimes you get that slack in your line when your bobber fishing it's really good for picking up at slack and taking that slack up with the hook sets you know if you can imagine Lane goes out goes to the bobber and then then from there it kinda goes straight down so you don't have a direct straight route to the fishes most when you're when you're hooking these fish with bothers so that longer rod does help but again hastens can either strike a lot of doors so sometimes we got to go to seven footers and in this particular setup this is a Shakespeare Crusader this is a rod reel combination they bought and and this cost me $15 you know and this is another thing I like to point out you really can get away with your setups being a lot cheaper with Barber fishing you know if you think about it you don't really need that high speed gear ratio you know you can get away with kind of a crummy gear ratio you can get away with the rod not really being balanced maybe it's a little heavy at at the end risk fatigue is not going to be an issue you're casting these out a lot of times we're leaving an open bill setting them down on the floor of the boat through you know risk fatigue you know being a little heavier maybe not as good a quality materials really doesn't matter I don't need ten ball bearings in this reel it's not like I'm casting an old and burning crank baits back in all day long with this so that's another thing I like to point out you really can get by with a little cheaper setup you know with this bobber fishing in general but I'll show you the rig here this is actually kind of a fusion type line you know a super line it allows me to go with a little heavier pound test and keep the diameter down then we come to our four hole stop woven through there and we come to our bead come to our bobber with the grommet at end go a little further down we come to our sinkers and swivel fluorocarbon leader in this case we've got a little hair jig on the end I'll usually put a leech on that it works good for walleyes and pass and you know that's that's the setup that I use quite often right there yeah I really like to use these fill grommeted and Bob except this nice little brass grommet their line slides through it really well and you won't wear any kind of grooves in it and you guys know these conventional barbers they pretty much catch anything that swims right well so do slip modders you know this setup with this pole this bobber I'll use the same setup for bluegills backs pipe walleyes well there you go guys quick little overview of rigging up a slip bobber I showed you some of the different stops that are out there I showed you the slip bobber that I like to use and you know if you haven't been using slip bobber I really recommend that you do I do catch a lot of fish on slip offers every year because hey you guys know right you guys know the three secrets to catching fish right location location location right if all the fish are done in 20 feet of water and you're sitting up at in two feet of water with your conventional clip-on bobber that's just not going to cut it right you guys know that anyways hey remember this hunt fish laughs repeat so Dave caneta from kinetise practical outdoors hey thanks for watching and God bless
