[Music] so [Music] okay so now we uh we've got our text lines hot and cold weather lines over to our sink and we've successfully run our cold water line only down to our ice maker box down here behind our refrigerator all right now we're getting ready to start making some pex fitting connections on the ends of these pex lines okay um tom's going to show us a couple of the fittings that we're going to be using yeah uh what we have here what we have here is a we have a angle up shut off male thread okay half inch male thread uh this is our pecs fitting right here that we're going to be using at the end of this line this line will come up this pex fitting will go onto here and get crimped on with the ring we're going to show you that in a minute this is going to get strapped right to the wall three drywall screws once we have that done and this crimped on we're gonna put teflon tape i'm just explaining what we're gonna be doing we're gonna be putting teflon tape on this nipple screwing into here in the future in the future we're gonna have a shut off on here to connect for our sink supply right but in the meantime we're going to teflon tape and put a cap on here just to keep the water water line pressure lines and uh until we get our dry water cabinet in okay this is actually a three inch chrome nipple and we'll actually be putting a that's an angle up chrome shut off on here and what size was the cap that was just is that a half inch cap yep yep a half inch these are uh shower ears drop ears we call them uh half inch female droppers a female is the part with the whole a male this is a female shutoff and a female drop here we're actually putting a male uh coupling nipple in between the male is the part with the threads where the threads stick out the female is where you thread into and just in case you want to act like you know what you're talking about when you're going to home depot and ask for these fittings that's a female that's a female drop l a drop here because it has the mounting flanges onto it half inch female here okay drop here yep all right so this is an important pex fitting right here this is what you're going to use for your hot and cold water lines to secure your pecs line to your 2x4 and to connect your half inch pecs to the bottom and as tom just showed you these just push right inside the line here after i'm pulling right out of there once and push that in there yeah so you can see what the end of that fitting looks like yep it just has a three uh three uh like ridges on it before you can put this on there you you gotta have a pex tool to be using pex all right that's the pex that's the pex tool that's a crimping tool and that that'll do either three-quarter inch packs or half-inch packs you show them the end of that tom they can see the half-inch hole and the three and the three-quarter inch hole the top one is for your half-inch the bottom one is for three now they're about 60 bucks for a pair of those guys i mean but just think of the money you're saving having a plumber not have to do your kitchen you can afford to buy the right tools um so buy yourself some pex crimping tools and keep them in your toolbox okay what we're going to do is i'm going to put this on you whenever you do a pecks ring you buy a bag of these half inch half inch pex rings all right you see that it says on there at half inch now these are made by shark bite home depot carry shark bike pex equipment and uh they're half inch rings show them one tom yep that's just a ring this is the actual ring you slide the ring on first then you slide your you slide your shed off on or your um you're dropping yeah your drop here on you take and you put this without moving your ring you want to keep that ring where there's like an eighth inch of white showing past it uh so i'll get that exactly where i want to be and then one squeeze of this tool and that's done that's correct now that that that fitting is water tight that half inch jaw of life that he just put around there and squeezed around that black ring crimped that pex tubing onto the end of this copper drop here all right i guess this is a completely pressurized watertight seal that quick we didn't need a soldering gun we didn't need flex we didn't need a torch we didn't need rosin or none of that old-fashioned plumbing stuff applies all right no fire no heat no you know pain and suffering just slept with the plastic pecs over top of your fitting put the ring on there and one squeeze and just show a little bit of eighth inch of that white wait is that where is it back or in there a little bit [Music] all right put your half inch across there across your ring and squeeze one time that's it all right now those hot and cold water lines both have the proper pex fittings on the end now what he's going to do next is going to take some drywall screws and a cordless drill and he's going to secure those to the 2x4 blocking that he just put in there okay so once you have your pex fitting attached to the end of your hot and cold water line and remember these are pecs fitting drop ears with half inch female threads inside them we're going to be using some drywall screws all right and that secures the fitting nice and tight so you can't move it to the two by four blocking okay [Music] okay now now you normally set these to the center of your drain line you could normally go four to five inches left and right to your drain line location so they'll end up being eight to ten inches apart yeah and you try to keep them at the same height keep them at the same height off the floor 20 inches all right and they look really close all right and they and now they're they're in position for the hot and cold water lines to be hooked up once we set our uh our kitchen sink base all right i'm just gonna hold this to get it the exact same height it's not rocket science here there you go all right now those those plastic pex lines are they're water tight to those fittings all right you can pressurize the water in these now and that will not let not leak at either one of those locations uh those pex rings make the toughest pressure uh connection of any plumbing fittings out there all right so that's it uh we got these uh talons hex talons just to hold them to hold up packs exactly where you want it to be these talons is just a little just a little plastic towel that goes around there and helps hold it on just like clips on your plumbing or your pec set nail tap them on see how nice that secures your line then yeah snap them on they're half inch pex talons preset nail tap it on that's it good stuff let me see all right so now we're getting the teflon tape out we're going to put teflon tape around the chrome nipple threads all right when you start your teflon tape this is very important you when if you have your nipple in your hand you're going to start your teflon tape by pressing it into threads and you're going to want to turn your fitting clockwise clockwise clockwise you're going to want to go around there with this monster tape three times is enough uh standard tape i say like seven times yeah this is twice as thick as the white tape it's called monster teflon tape um you don't have to use this you can buy the white regular teflon tape but you're gonna want to go around about six or seven times with the tape right around the end of the threads once again your nipple on both sides of your nose yep squeeze it on your nipple squeeze it on your nipple and turn your nipple clockwise ah reason being when you go to put your squeeze on your nipple i'm sorry that just sounded funny all right so yeah one two three i got three good clockwise ones on there and this one's done all right so now you can thread that into your head your half inch female threads all right that's a male nipple going into a female thread all right and he's gonna hand tighten that in there and then we have one of his caps that's gonna go on the outside and then on the end we got a half inch cap and that's a temporary cap we're gonna take that off after we set our kitchen sink and put a shutoff on but for now we're going to put that on until the drywall is finished all right half inch drop here for pecs three inch chrome nipple with teflon on both sides and a half inch cap which is a temporary cap and that's the complete setup for now for your cold and hot water okay that's all we're going to be doing for now for the cold and hot water until drywall's finished now we're going to be tightening that up with a set of uh channel locks in just a second making sure that we're uh making sure that our threads are tight inside this fitting and then our caps on but for now we're just hand tightening once you get it tightened as tight as you can with your hand you'll put us you'll put a wrench on there and crank it down tighter all right so tom's doing now one more of those nipples teflon tape always wrap your tape around your nipple in a clockwise rotation because when you thread on your shut off you won't strip the teflon tape back out of the threads in the nipple okay that's why we put it on clockwise yep yeah i'm actually turning i'm holding the tape here and i'm actually turning my fitting my nipple clockwise which is the property it does matter that you do it in a clockwise rotation otherwise you'll strip your teflon back off when you put your shut off on and you'll have a leak all right so put your teflon on thread it in to your female half inch for your uh your drop ear and then take your half inch pressure cap thread that on all these items were bought in the plumbing aisles at home depot then what you're going to want to do is get yourself a pair of channel locks tighten up your nipple yep we can we can actually i mean the chrome nipple is our finished product we'll actually grab it with channel locks right tight close uh inside here where you know we're going to be hidden when we scratch up this nipple and get get back towards your threads with your with your channel lock so you don't scratch up that nice new chrome surface on the chrome yeah it's going to show in the finished product so back where he's got it gripped right now close to the uh close to the copper fitting the drywall will cover any scratches that he makes on there so i think i have some nothing it's really gonna matter underneath the kitchen sink if there's a couple scratches on the chrome but let's say you were doing the bathroom and this was your toilet nipple you wouldn't want it all scratched up sticking out of the wall all right so he's going to use channel locks he's going to tighten both of these up and that's done over there hot and cold water lines are successfully now at the location of the new kitchen sink location um and when we get them tightened up they're pressurized ready to go finished done oh faster you can you
