How to Make & Sell Printable Calendars on Etsy, Shopify or PayHip

hi everyone welcome back to my channel my name is merah and i teach creative people how to sell their art online and today's video is all about making and selling printable calendars online whether you're doing it with etsy with shopify with pay hip or even with wordpress there are so many ways to sell digital downloads online and to create your own digital download business to make money passively from home this video was originally designed and was originally planned to be about printable calendar inspiration and printable planner inspiration however i did see the need because i got a lot of dms about the mock-ups and going deeper into detail about each topic so it was sort of split in two so we're going to have today the printable calendars but it's not just going to be inspiration i'm going to take you to canva i'm going to show you the different calendars that i've designed throughout the years including mini calendars with photos and themes as well as a year in a glance calendar that people really love with having black and white options and colorful options in different kind of sizes but after that i'm also going to show you mock-ups for a shopify store for an etsy store as well as create a mock-up for a pay-hip store and actually upload this product onto pay hip which is the easiest platform to upload digital download items to if you don't know pay hip i'm not going to go into how to open a store in this video because we've had a video about pay heep in the past and i'm going to leave a link to that video down below just a quick recap of pay hip it's a free service where you basically pay commission when people purchase from you and you can sell digital download items physical items like print-on-demand but you'll have to sell them manually you'll have to like make the transaction manually as well as subscriptions they pay with paypal and with stripe and they are super cool super fun super free to start with with other premium options that you can add money to and pay less commission from each transaction it's actually what i'm using for this channel when it comes to like sending out thank you cards if people want to donate money to the channel and there is a link to that down below as well i'm also planning on using pay hip with a different account to set up my coloring page venture for passive income in 2022 well i plan on combining it with a wordpress website that gives freebies and the whole recap of that is going to be at the end of the month if i'll actually manage to do it because this month has been insane insanely busy with so many things not including the videos so many things here in bansko that are popping up and with my nationality and getting my portuguese passport so i'm really hoping i'll be able to set it up for those of you who are interested in planners i am sorry that planners are not included in today's inspiration video but there will be a planner tutorial how to make and sell printable planners in the month of july you can go ahead and check out this channel for updates of when it's coming i know that some of you might be looking at today well we are in the middle of june and i'm talking to you about calendars isn't calendar something you're supposed to make and sell around november where people are starting to buy them well the answer is no well i will be sharing with you guys 12 month calendars that i have made because i have made them in november of 2020 you can also start making calendar pages right now printable calendar pages right now that are 16 month calendars those are usually better selling than the ones that i've done because a lot of people are looking into purchasing printable calendars around the month of august so starting right now with the printable calendar that covers the month of september 2021 till december of 2022 with a 16 month calendar printable is actually a pretty solid idea and you can have your own shop just for calendars you can combine it with different type of printables with printable planners and printable stickers and everything that you can think about that is meant for organization or you can combine your printable calendar products with print on demand calendar product and if you want me to talk more about print and man calendar products please let me know i'll be happy to make a video just about that i'm gonna take you to my screen in just a few moments to show you the calendars that i have made last year including how to make these on canva a few small advices like to show you like the ingredients of the calendar and different types of calendars that i made along with mock-ups for shopify and etsy and how to make a mock-up for pay-hip and upload it onto pay-hip but before we do that guys how to design a printable calendar using canva show you some of my ideas of the things that i've done in the past year as well as how to mock up them for shopify etsy pay hip and upload them on to pay hip and then we're gonna get back to me talk about this some more recap this topic and talk more about what we have in store for us tomorrow so the very first thing that i'm going to be doing is obviously going to canva because i do love this software and canva actually has calendar templates so the first thing i'm going to do is basically upload one of these calendar templates to see what kind of ingredients i can take from that template to help me get started so just by typing in calendar i get to see that they have a calendar and these are the sizes a wall calendar which is on inches sizes a birthday calendar classroom calendar monthly calendars photo calendar and i'm looking in here and i can also see like the calendars of mine but let's just click on the first one with calendar and here i have some awesome templates although i don't know what year they're from so i might just open a blank tab to see if i can find something that is true to 2021 so let's just create a new calendar a blank one and i'm going to go to monthly calendar here in the template options and i have a lot of variant options and i'm not going to use all of them i just want to get that snippet that pot that shows me the actual dates in order to save myself some time and we do have one of these which is pretty cool as well as this one that has the boxes in it and as you can see that some of them are just the template and some of them have actual you know the 12 pages but for example with this one if i click on one of them i get to see the dates for 2020 which doesn't help me as much so let me just delete it but let's just go into one of these which is 2021 and if i click on it let me just check right now that the dates are true so we're talking about january 2021 which started on a friday and the dates are true here although this calendar starts from a sunday and not from a monday but what i can do is i can pretty much use this element here and change the rest while transforming this into an a4 so people can print it at home so while i'm also having this open i'm also going to go here and type in a4 and just grab an a4 document and start it up you can also use us letterhead you can also use an a6 whatever you want and what i'm going to do is basically try and find more templates like this one to grab their items to grab their features and place them on the other one that i want to design but let's you know let's start with september because that's the month that we're going to be designing for and let's check if these dates are true to size september 2021 starts on a wednesday let's go in here and check out september and it does start on wednesday which means that what i can do is i can grab all of these and stick them together on my a4 document so what i'm going to do now is i'm just going to grab all of these and copy paste them to my untitled a4 document which is blank and now i'm going to think about styling so i put this exactly in the middle so what i'm thinking about now how can i style it let's go to elements i like to start things off with the box i'm going to take this box make sure that it's standard stretch it all the way center it both ways give it a nice pastel color and maybe something bright something that would easily show off the black that i have and take all of it and position it in the back of everything so this would be the background and now what i can do is i can click on text add a heading write down september place this up top here and you have these guidelines that really help you out in knowing how to center things and i'm looking at my fonts i kind of want to use one of the fonts that i got from creative fabrica because i really do love them and they honestly look super super awesome and i'm thinking maybe this one and maybe like make a really really fun calendar let me just copy paste this line change this to 2021 and i can use the same font here or a different one and let's just align it maybe try a very normal one let's see what we have here this is glacial indifference so we can just make it in the same exact font as the text below maybe bald it up a bit and we can make something like this but it kind of does look kind of blank and not quite interesting so i'm just going to select these shrink them up just a bit center them again and i'm going to go to elements and i'm going to click in on a square here and i'm looking for a very very thin graphic square i'm thinking about this one maybe and i'm going to stretch it up and stretch it down and i'm going to center it all the way and this will sort of come off as the frame of this but i kind of want it bigger and i'm thinking maybe something like this and then center it all the way and of course color in black because i'm using black colors and this will sort of come up on top of everything i kind of like this style i don't know if you do but for me this is something that works but what i want to do is i want to take all this part move it really up there and then leave a place for notes down below so for that i'm just going to take this one and push it to back so i can work on these layers i'm going to mark this i'm going to mark this and this and bring this up till the bottom of the 2021 and i can actually leave it up top if i wanted to or i can take this again and push it up to front but actually i'm thinking maybe i want to minimize this square a bit because i did minimize the text and i wanted to look evenly top and bottom like this and then grab the frame and decide if i want it to be up front or in the back and i kind of like that it's on top of this and obviously you can also change the colors to match whatever you want you can change it to black actually and turn all of this into white but i do know that a lot of people don't like a very dark calendar they feel like it uses a lot of paint when you make them and at the bottom here what i want to have is just a bunch of lines so i'm going to type in line and what i'm going to do i'm just going to select a cool little line here and place it all the way you can make it that it touches it or that it's in the middle it's up to you but i do want to make it more uh narrow like lightweight so let me just put it on two which is very very narrow maybe i need something more maybe let's try and put it on three see how that looks and i can make it a tiny bit smaller i don't have to actually make it and notice the angle is zero and what i'm going to do is i'm going to center this and this looks centered and then just copy paste it and obviously when you're doing it you can make the lines straighter but basically what i'll have to do now is just to go over all of the month here from this template and grab them or just change the dates myself manually when i will make it for september for october for whichever month and go along as i go and this is just one example for printable calendar but i actually made a lot more and i want to share them with you because i made a few other ideas for this type of project so i made this one also using canva by basically creating these shapes of a square and then putting the lines of the text on them i also gave it a header and put in a lot of lines and wrote down notes and i have this for every single month it was harder to make at the beginning like i really had to style it and make sure that it fits but then it was just copying pasting and changing the dates and i also took the same thing i literally took this part and i copy pasted it to a different a4 paper and gave it a white box of a background while changing the transparency added the date here while also giving it this echo effect in white and then added a photo that basically fits the month so january is a snow february is the month of love march is you know what i thought it would be i thought it was like more like a lucky thing for st patrick's day but i guess i failed that april with easter and the beginning of spring we have may with all the sunflowers and we have june with a beach photo in the back july which is a very this like is a us calendar because july is independence day for the united states and then i made august sort of like bright and vivid and like you know the vacation the tropics september which the autumn starts we have october with a theme meant for halloween november with the beginning of winter and december with christmas and this was another design that i made but again using this stance this template that i've selected and just copying pasting the parts and then i did another design with the same stance but i made it smaller writing the date here adding all of these separate lines and this one was actually funny because i just made it using you know this space so with these lines so i just did it all the way and created the lines this was actually before canvas started making really cool lines to make them easier and i just added a box with a color that matches one of my own graphics this watercolor graphics that i made of trees that i kind of really like i made it using tassui sketches and i did a different tree for each month with a different color of a box down below and as you can see for example because may has more dates like more numbers then the line here was shorter and i made it basically for every month every month has a separate tree for it i also did a very different design with smaller numbers and placed it on the bottom of each part here for each month and then wrote down the date in the month added sort of a coloring thing to each month as well as a dot grid at the top because a lot of people do like this type of monthly planning and i sort of made it to be this coloring like mini coloring pages as you can see here you can actually color these elements because they're all outlined and again they are relating to the month so this is you know for the united states independence day and this is for the summer and we have you know for the beginning of a school year for halloween and i also made it this way not just for the coloring part but also because i do find this to be necessary to have at least one calendar that is completely black and white because a lot of people don't have colors in the printer and they just want a black and white calendar moving on to a mini calendar that i made in black and white which is basically taking up these lines this thing and just pushing it to be a third of a page with a background of a photo and just you know just a color so it was gray and each month i just took in a different photo so january is sort of like this winter vibe february we have the roses because it's the month of love march we have saint patrick's day april with the bunny for easter may is the beginning of the spring we have june going to the beach independence day for july august with this tropical vibe beginning of school year september halloween for october we have the forests in november and december with the christmas and that's when things get interesting because i really wanted to dive deeper into this because basically what i made here is a stance of a mini calendar that people print out and they can cut and they can put it on their fridge they can put it in their journal and again if you have never been journaling or a person that is really really into keeping track of what you're doing and keeping track of your time making these ideas might be difficult for you but if you are this kind of person this is just going to be super easy because this is something that i will be using and this is something that i'm actually using in my previous calendar in my previous journal just by printing this out and cutting it and gluing it at the beginning of each month and a lot of planner enthusiastic do that but what i did here is basically created the same document but change it into coffee so i changed the colors a bit to match the colors of the specific coffee or the month i made them brighter and each month has its own coffee vibe and then i made the same thing with flowers so every month has its own flower vibe i like this one especially because you know halloween but the cutest thing was the puppy mini calendar with puppy photos that basically represent the month so we have this puppy that looks like it's kind of cold and then this one with the heart we have march with the green we have a puppy with easter eggs a puppy that smells the beginning of you know the spring a puppy on the beach for summer a little thug puppy with the american flag for july again playing on the beach a puppy in the beginning of a school year a puppy in halloween a puppy in the autumn and a christmas pug and it was so easy to make and so much fun so i made the same thing with cats so a cat in the winter a loving cat for valentine's day we have an easter cat a beach cat a cat with the 4th of july in it a cat in a school year and just making this was super super fun and super super simple i also thought about monthly inserts so people can cut them and put them in their planner so i made just you know people basically get two pages and they just print it out and cut out the months themselves and i also gave it a bit of a frame like this another type of frame another type of color frame as well as a themed color frame by just clicking here and adding photos like a photo for st patrick's day valentine's these are actually pretty much the same photos that i've used in the big calendar with few minor adjustments and i made all of these photos with transparency so people can print them out and still see the dates but i also wanted to create what we call a year at a glance so a year at a glance is when people can just print out one page and they always see the date so just you know stuff them all together in one page with different types of backgrounds and with the reverse option if people want to print it out on a dark color with certain colors and it was so much fun to make and so much fun to do and the next thing i did was create photos for my mock-up so i took one of these put it here and sort of imagine if i have my own dog grid bullet journal how can someone take it and basically print it out and cut it over here while they're writing down their june master plan and they're having their lines sort of created a mock-up and this comes from what i know that i'm doing as a person who bullet journals and uses planners so people are not getting this but this is an example of how they can basically use these designs on their own planners and pages because the thing that i did next is actually drop down one of these items like i i downloaded these as jpegs and i use them for my mock-up photos so when i went in to place it i found a photo of a girl who's really into bullet journaling holding a notebook and this is how it would look when she cuts and paste this page and glues it to her journal book and this is what it says and i wrote down you know cut and glue on your planner or journal and this is actually something that i did because i was actually planning on selling it on shopify so all of the mock-ups here if you can see the sizes they have the exact even size of 1080 pixels by 1080 pixels and what i did here is pretty simple i just downloaded everything with jpeg format i just put it here put a square on top of it and just wrote down cute cats 2021 mini calendar because that's what it is and then i showed what this package includes so it includes four pages at a4 size on a pdf file each with three months a total of 12 months and 12 cute cats so i wrote down also print at home calendar to print as many time as you want put it here this is just a square and then found a photo of a printer it's as simple as that last thing i did was basically take this page which was full and crop it in the center to show how i put it on a fridge so i just found a photo of a fridge put this on it put another element on it as if it was a magnet and wrote down cut one month and place on your refrigerator and of course this little cute girl here what i did for etsy if you want to see the sizes for an etsy mock-up photo is 2454 by 2020 pixels and i put it down here i just wrote down 2021 flower mini calendar printables and as you saw in the previous one where i just downloaded one of them and cropped the middle so i just used multiple of them in a way that people cannot go into the photo and just download it themselves wrote down floral printable 2021 mini calendar sheets with dates aligned all of them here so people can see what they're getting but they can still not steal one of them and a photo of me here i thought would be cute like you know i'm being organized this is how this is actually a photo of where i was when i was designing it sort of a personal touch i used these mock-ups again as an example here print cut and add to your planner and i wrote down examples so people would understand it's not what they're getting as well as added another photo of a fridge this is a heart as a magnet and then just wrote down or cut and place on your fridge as well as some sort of a first photo so one pdf to download and print four pages inside a4 size each page cuts to three mini calendars but then i moved on and i designed another mock-up for my other calendar which was this one with all of my trees and i made it using place it i just put it instead of an a4 page and wrote down 12 month 2021 calendar and in this case you can write down 16 month september 2021 until december 2022 calendar to print at home printable 2021 colorful trees 12 monthly calendar sheets pdf and just place them all over the different sizes i made this one again using place it i just made a woman who's holding an a4 paper and this was my logo at the time this was the name of the shop that i was using so i just put it on top of this so people cannot just steal that and use it without actually buying it another mockup that i took from place it for the other design with the coloring pages so 12 month 2021 calendar printable calendar sheets with 12 months and a dot grid here like i made in emphasis but again all of these were from playset but what i want to do now is actually take one of these and show you how i do it for pay hip because we were talking about pay heep having a different dimension setting so what we're going to do is we're going to go back to what i did basically for shopify if i want to upload this product onto pay hip and what i'm going to do is go into my pay hip account and i have this pay hip store that i'm still working on for the channel because a lot of people ask me how they can contribute to the channel or donate to the channel so i opened a pay here calendar i actually uploaded them onto pay hip and you can download them for three dollars these are 14 clip art pieces with a clear background you can download them and use them yourselves to make planners printable planners print on demand kdp wherever you want to use them the only thing you cannot do with them is sell them as clipart but if you want to support the channel or to get cute new png clip art of trees you can go ahead and check it out i'm actually thinking about adding a lot more of my clip art as a way for you guys to purchase it to use for print and demand and printables please let me know if that is something that is interesting to you guys but what i am going to do is i'm going to go to the backstage of pay hip and i'm going to go into products and add new product and there is obviously a full tutorial about pay hip like i told you from the get go you can go ahead and check it out but for now i just want to show you how i add this up if you want to add these printable calendars onto pay hip i'm going to go to this page and this was the mock-up that i have created for myself so i just downloaded these cute little mini cats onto jpeg and uploaded them onto here and gave them a shadow but what i need to do now because if i look at pay hip at the store then this is really centered this is a very vertically aligned piece of text so i'm going to go into this and what i'm going to do is i'm going to minimize the text here so cute cats 2021 mini calendar and i want to make sure that it fits in the center so i'm just going to center it in the middle here and i'm maybe going to change the font to a narrow font let's just go in and write down narrow and obviously this would be the font that you'll use for everything if i really want to have this product long term on my shop i will put it under my own branding which was londrina font but if i look at this this could also be nice this is a very nice and narrow font this is a very cute font although i think it's kind of too narrow oh my god this is so narrow i can't even read this um let's just have a look at more of these cool narrow fonts if there's something i like i do love bryce bolt condensed they have an amazing font but let's just make it a tiny bit bigger center it in the center i'm not sure if i like the effects here maybe let's delete the effects but what i can do is i can color this in white and i can color this one in a different color maybe this one to match these make it a tiny bit darker because our text is white like this for example and make these a tiny bit smaller but raise them up so this is fully centered so we have cute cats 2021 mini calendar and this is written down here in the center and i can just use these ones so i have the four p and g's i'm going to change this color to match and change these to white the text to white and i can leave it in the same font or i can change it back to this font because what's important for me is the first photo that will basically feature the alignment that will look good as a vertical because what people will see is the space here you'll see it in an instant because i'm going to upload it up so printed home calendar this one i'm also going to change to the same vibe of the blue background with the white text and you can obviously change the font to match but for this tutorial it's fine for me and now i have these five images to download not including the last one which had nothing so i'm just going to download all of them and i'm going to go to my cute cats mini calendar and as you can see here i have four pages and i'm gonna drop them down let's as pdf print sizes and download them all into one file let me just expand this one in the meantime to have a look at all of our photos and our pdf was downloaded and what i'm going to do is i'm going to go to my pay hip account and i press on add new product so upload product file this is the file that people get which is the pdf and while it's uploading let's think about a title so printable 2021 calendar mini cats calendar pages you can offer it for example for seven dollars and i'm taking a high price because what i'm going to do is create a social discount as well and i'm going to add the product images that we've downloaded onto here mark all of them and upload all of them together they're just popping up as we go along and think about what to write in the description and what i basically need to have in the description is to present the product to talk about the product to talk about how people can use it as well as the exact file that they're getting so give me a second to do that okay so what i wrote down here is enjoy monthly planning with a dose of mega cuteness my new printable mini calendar for 2021 is to social discounts add social discount for example 25 apply to all products or apply just to this printable calendar and create a social discount now once i've done this discount i can just go in refresh this page and as you can see here it says share on facebook twitter or pinterest and save 25 so if they go in and they share this on facebook this price will automatically be reduced 25 which is pretty pretty dope and the reason why i chose specifically this platform to share it with the guys by the way if you want this calendar let me just reduce the price a bit if you want to get this so much more to talk about because you could be selling printable calendars on etsy you could be selling printable calendars on shopify you could be selling printable calendars on pay hip but where should you specifically you sell them on and what is coming up tomorrow so let's go back to me and talk about this some more wow so many calendar ideas guys my brain is pumping and i'm kind of looking back at it and thinking maybe i should add that 16 month calendar myself i'm still conflicting what to do with my own etsy store which is just a mess right now filled with random things that i've uploaded for the channel and i do know that i want to use payhep for my coloring pages so it's not going to be for the calendars but i'm also thinking about maybe making a calendar that is a coloring page like a coloring calendar and that will be uploaded there and obviously i will keep you guys updated with any products that i upload myself and i am also looking into print-on-demand calendars just for the beginning of the school year maybe to make like a short period where i'm selling them and just test it out and see how it goes because it's really the money time now guys august is a month to start with planning the next year the school year as well as you know anything from september 2021 until december 2022. we showed brief mock-ups of you know pay hip and shopify and axi and i do want to make this like small recap of these three options for you guys to be able to know which one of these options is the best one for you because they are very different from each other i mean the first place that everyone goes to is etsy because it has its own marketplace and it has its own like crowd but the problem with etsy other than the fact that they can just shut you down where whenever they want or you can get bad reviews that will never go away from people who understand that this is a physical product another digital download and you have no control over branding i mean you can make your logo in your cover photo but it's still going to be orange and it's still going to say etsy up top and when people are going to purchase something from you and someone is going to ask them hey where did you get this cute little calendar they're going to say oh i bought it as a download item on etsy not on your store and it's quite hard to have an etsy store with the terms of you know you will market yourself whether it's on pinterest or or instagram or facebook and when people go into your etsy store people that you've worked hard to market your product too on social media they will just go in and they can see your competition right there but obviously there's also the good points people actually go to etsy and type in printable calendar and that's something you need the thing is people also go into google and type in printable calendar which comes into play if you're doing good seo work and setting up your own shopify store where you have full control over branding over anything and you can sell pretty easily digital download items there's actually a tutorial here on this channel about how to open up your shopify store to sell digital download items where i show how i update the plugin and how you basically upload everything onto shopify it's pretty pretty easy the only minus with the shopify is the upfront costs which are 29 minimum with the cheapest option but you do get your own domain your own control and a blog but if you do want to make it sort of like half this and have that you can go and check out pay here because joining them is free and you only get to pay them you only have to pay them when someone makes a sale and you don't even have to pay them it just automatically deducts itself and i think it's like five percent which is not a lot for basically a service that gives you your own instant digital download store the problems are that you don't have your own domain you can customize it to your liking using various fonts and various colors and really make the store font that you like as well as operate your own blog with them to get more traffic from seo and yes when you're working with pay hip or shopify and you're referring people in from pinterest from instagram and from facebook they only see you you have the you are you are the only person on that stage which is something that i think that i prefer better now after i started my journey many many years ago and learned that bringing traffic in is hard and i might as well be the only person there and if you're thinking you know i don't know what to start with if you already have the product i would honestly recommend if you don't know enough about marketing if you're just putting your first foot in the door you're just trying it out set up an etsy store there is a link down below for 40 free listings like your first 40 listings will be free it's actually a dual thing so when you do that i also get 43 listings from my store and you get 43 listings to your store and you can go ahead and start out without these upfront costs and you can also start with pay hip without these upfront costs and see how well you are with marketing your own thing without the comfort of a marketplace and then if you say oh this is not for me i'm not good with marketing myself i get more sales on etsy because my marketing is not good and i rely on i see traffic drop the pay hip or just keep it up there floating it doesn't cost you money and focus on etsy but if you do see that most of your sales are coming through your own marketing efforts and your marketing efforts are being paid off better on pay hip maybe it's time to invest that money and open a shopify store just thinking maybe that would be a way to like organize things in your head if you
