SELL Digital Downloads & Printables for FREE Using Payhip - PayHip Review

hi everyone welcome back to my channel my name is melroy and i teach creative people how to sell their art online in today's video we're going to be going over the pay hip system which allows you to basically instantly open a shop for digital download items for subscriptions and for physical products with these three options as well as a way to just get started for free and stop getting paid today or tomorrow or as soon as you find out how to get clients i really want to go over the system with you but specifically for this tutorial to talk about their options for digital download products i am thinking i'll probably make a few more videos about pay-hip including their membership plan and subscription plans as well as their options for actually selling physical items but today we're going to be talking about digital downloads in a way i feel like we're completing the work we started yesterday when we set up shopify and the digital download app that they have to sell digital download and printables not on etsy so pay hip could be a really good alternative for that even though they don't give you the option to run your own domain and they have some limitations in terms of that but otherwise they have all the branding options you fully can customize the colors of your website you can set up a shop with one product with a lot of products and basically try and make this your own shop and your own niche and start selling right away without having to pay any fees in advance the biggest fallback from using this system but it's the same one with shopify is the fact that you don't have a marketplace to back you up like etsy because people go into etsy searching for printable wall art searching for printable planners for digital download svg files and you do have clients coming into etsy looking to buy but we're not on etsy five years ago we're at 2021 and everything is so different right now with etsy so many shops have opened up since coronavirus started there are almost 5 million sellers if i'm not mistaken it could even be more because these are statistics based on 2020 but there's so many sellers and so many people just selling out everything and if you do end up marketing yourself and bringing people into your platform to purchase anything they will see your competition straight down below and that's something that when i'm thinking about setting up my own personal business and i want to move forward with selling printable coloring books and coloring pages i really don't want to have to do all this work and you know get the clients and work on pinterest and work on instagram and just bring traffic into etsy where they can just buy from my competitors because they have more reviews i want to have something that is truly my own and pay hip seems like a good option for it at the moment i actually discovered pay hip because of you guys i got so many messages and so many comments about operating this sort of like a donate to the channel buy me a coffee that a lot of youtubers do a lot of online creators do that and i was looking into doing something like that but i didn't want it to be just you know just donations just people sending up money i wanted to be able to give something back even if it's you know just a thank you letter or something cute to give you guys back for donating money to the channel and i didn't want to set it up on etsy because i felt like it would be weird to just have an etsy shop with like two or three products to basically give me money and i'm gonna send you a thank you letter it seemed kind of weird so i was really digging deeper into this topic of how i can do like an instant shop for digital downloads and that's how i discovered pay hip i'm actually using it for this channel's donations it's payhip.comoyo there is a link to that down in the description and i just started a new pay hip account today for selling my coloring pages and i did it while filming my screen to show you the process of how you basically set up the account how you get paid and everything you need to know right from the start i really do love this system and i think that it correlates to my goals for 2022 to be able to only have passive income in my life and that means that this income comes from things that i've already done for example if you write a book and you publish it as an e-book or as a physical book to be purchased with kdp on amazon then if someone purchases it you basically do nothing like they do all the work for you whether it's this send the person the file or whether it's to create the book but you do nothing so you do all your work in advance and it's kind of the same with youtube because i do these videos in advance and later on get money from youtube ads or from affiliate links that i have down below in the description for example for creative fabrica and i really do love this system for passive income and it's something that i'm i feel like i need in my life having dealing with ptsd and my back problems i really do feel like i'm not in a mood to get clients to constantly come up to me even though clients would pay me more than you know printable coloring book if i'm opening the website for them and designing a store for them but i really do feel like i want to lay back a bit and go to my creative side do these creative videos do my coloring books and my coloring pages and get paid after and one of my goals was to find sort of this topic that really puts everything together something that i can sell something i can use affiliate links for and if you do not know what affiliate is or affiliate links or affiliate marketing you can go ahead and check it out the affiliate marketing 101 video that i've had just a few days ago that really explains all the terminology that i've been using right now there's linked that obviously down below in the description and i'm really looking into having this wordpress website that is a blog that also gives like freebies of things like free coloring pages and also refers people to purchase coloring books that other people are making with an affiliate link as well as to purchase pencils and sharpies and markers with an affiliate link as well as to sell my own coloring pages like printable coloring books and i didn't want to set it up with woocommerce i wanted to set it up in a place that will be really easy and pay hip just checks out all my boxes while pay hip gives you the option to instantly open a shop for digital download items and printables they give you so much more they have a special system to create coupons to create social share instant discount that means that for example if i'm uploading a coloring book a printable coloring book for ten dollars i can decide that whoever shares this on pinterest twitter or facebook is gonna get an automatic 25 discount which is amazing and it's through their system they also integrate with all of the big mailing systems and mailer services like aweber or mailchimp or even get response and the list is really long they have the option to fully customize everything the colors in your shop the fonts in your shop your own logo to design if you want the logo to be on top of the menu or on the side of the menu and people can just check out and buy whatever they want and you'll get paid either with paypal or stripe immediately pay-hip offers three pricing plans the first one is free and it's not a free trial it's a free plan forever and with this free plan you basically only pay when someone purchases something from you and they take a five percent fee from everything that you're selling if you don't wanna pay five percent you can pay them twenty nine dollars a month and pay two percent transaction fee or pay them ninety nine dollars a month and get zero transaction fees but again with all these pricing options it doesn't mean you're getting less options you know for customization for coupons and for all that you get the same exact features no matter how much you choose to pay them and i'm starting with just the free one and getting transaction fees i think it's the best one for me because i'm not selling yet but if you're starting to sell and you're seeing more money coming in you could just transform this to a different pricing account and save up on those fees once you start selling which is something that i think a lot of people sort of do when they open an etsy shop and then when the transaction fees becomes too much more than having your own shopify store they migrate and basically open a new shop on shopify to pay them that money and save on the transaction fees but this is something that with pay heep you can pretty much do automatically yes they don't give you the option to have your own domain but you can also set up a blog from there and also very unique features like sort of this preview feature so for example let's say you're selling printable stationery or you know printable planner stickers so you've made this enormous bundle of like 15 sheets of printable planner stickers and you can actually upload it onto your pay hip account as a product but make one of these printable sheets one of these printable sticker sheets as a free option so save it as a pdf separately and then upload it as a freebie so people can already start looking at what they're gonna get before they're actually paying for it and with this system of offering free stuff i think we've talked about it when we talk about opening a blog for freebies to support your printables etsy journey people like free stuff and sometimes if you give them something good for free to test it out yes they will pay for the full product especially when it's printables and you can really price it down quite cheaply i want to take you to my screen where i'll show you how i took one email that i opened for this new venture that is pdfcoloring.com that i purchased few days ago and i want to show you the process of signing up uploading the first product and designing my store but more than that i also want to show you that as i'm doing it pay-hip actually tells me what's missing what do i need to do so basically all i do is just follow their stats i am going to use canva in the process and a little bit of place it to create some of my mock-ups and i do love these tools if you want to check out playset there's a link down below to the playset full tutorial that i've done it's mostly for print-on-demand but i also use it for printables when i need good mockups and i really really do love their system and i want you to take from this video not just the fact that i'm selling coloring pages and i'm starting to sell coloring pages i want you to take every possibility that you have with printables you can create sudoku books to print out you could sell you know printable sets of wall art you can also sell customized stuff and have people correspond with you because unlike etsy you have all the information about the clients already there every person who has ever purchased from you is going to be saved on your customer tab and you can basically check out everything at any time including very easy to understand analytics dashboard to know the top 10 places that you're getting traffic from as well as the countries of the people who visit your store and how many visits you have every day the last seven days the last 30 days etc and i just want to take you to my screen and show you the process of really opening up this account uploading my first product and sort of going over the shop designer it does kind of look like shopify which is really really cool and of course i'm gonna also keep you updated in this channel as i progress because as i said i want to have a full wordpress blog with freebies i want to have more coloring books uploaded to pay him to this account i want to have my affiliate links and sort of create this like ecosystem of a blog with freebies with affiliate links and with a link to purchase products they also seem to have a good integration to basically put some of their code inside a website which i have not checked up yet but once i check it out and sort of start building this ecosystem that i'm planning i will keep you guys updated and i hope that this will be in june but before we get to my screen and get started two small screen and set up a pay hip store to sell digital downloads not on etsy so without further ado meet pay hip a platform that i'm really excited about and while i do have an account with pay hip i just logged out of that account for the very reason that i'm setting up a new account because you can have multiple accounts using different email addresses but still the same paypal to get paid and i just want to take you to their pricing page for a second because as i said before they are free to use and you get all the features that you want with either one of their pricing plans the free ones or the paid ones it's just a matter of your percentage and basically your commission so with a free account you pay five percent transaction fees their plus account that costs twenty nine dollars a month you pay two percent transaction fees and the pro account that costs ninety nine dollars a month you do not pay transaction fees and you can change the plans as you go along you can start with a free one and if you see you're selling a lot more and you want to reduce fees just make the calculation and switch to plus or to pro and what we're going to do now is we are going to sign up for free the email address i'll be using is for the domain that i bought two days ago which is pdf coloring which is the website that i want to have for the coloring pages and let me just set up a password and create my account and the first thing you need to do is your name or business name and that will be displayed on your store and what i want to write down here is pdf coloring and now it verifies that same thing again so it's pay hip.com pdf coloring let's get started with selling it's really that simple and as their store builder is quite new so you have these big new updates for your store so they have a fully customized with all aspects of how your store looks you have stove search you have a blogging options and your store is available to be translated in eight languages and they pretty much tell you that you have to spend some time redesigning it and i don't have a problem with that i'm just gonna go down and it just tells me that i've completed 25 of my stores set up so what else do i need to set up i need to set up a first product i need to set up checkout and then i need to celebrate which is kind of kind of cool i can also upload a profile image add a short bio and customize the store design yes the system is really that simple you also have all the access points here to manage your product your analytics your marketing and your customers and what we don't have here is the store because another tab for the store will be created once a new product will be added so let's just start with adding my first product and i can add a digital product i can add a physical product as well as a subscription billing which is quite nice guys to have a subscription option here but i think that maybe we'll be talking about the other two options later on because we're just gonna go with add a digital product and as i said this is super simple it's even easier than shopify because the very first thing to make sure that i'm not going to sell something that doesn't exist is to actually upload a product file so i'm going to click here and i'm going to go to my downloads where i have downloaded a printable mandela pdf book and upload it onto pay hip i can give it a title give it a price and basically upload the product images which are my mock-ups as well as the option to upload another product file because sometimes you know we sell multiple files in the same listing or in the same product and let me just name my product and i can choose the pricing in each and every currency i always choose us dollars and let's say i want to take five dollars for this product and then i need a cover to add images i can add up to nine items up to nine images as well as embed a video or audio file write my description and with advanced options do so much more that we will be going over quite soon but let's start with uploading a product image and they require that the minimum image size will be 1000 pixels so i'm gonna go to my canva account go back because i was on the design page and create a custom design and i'm just going to make it to be 2 000 by 2 000. i have this thing where if someone says like this needs to be at least 600 pixels then i'll do 1200 like i always double it somehow and this should be a product that explains to people what i'm selling so i'm selling a coloring book and i uploaded these five mandalas obviously my printable coloring book is going to be way bigger it's just the test product for this tutorial and i also did sort of coloring to one of these mandela so i'm going to drag it over here as well and i'm thinking maybe i should just start with this one and sort of broaden it up because i made it actually quite big so there is room for this and what i want to do now is create a text on it to basically say like mandela coloring book and i'm going to choose a different font i really like working with londrina i think it's really easy for me in terms of branding and i will be working with it on the website as well as with pay hip and it's really important for you guys to flat out do exactly what you need to do in terms of your branding and everything i don't know if you've seen the etsy video like what to do before setting up an etsy shop but one of the first things was to do your branding firsthand and i already know like parts of the branding that i would want to have and this is going to be mandela coloring book you can add like a pdf you can add whatever you want to it let me just see that it comes off nice i want to center it a bit and maybe add some of my other mandela's in the background like for example this one and sort of push it back as well as this one and push it to back and now i'm thinking maybe i need something behind this so i'm going to go to elements i'm going to type in square choose this shape minimize it sort of center it around the mandela coloring book thing and i can change the color to match one of the colors of the existing painting of the mandela like pink and change the opacity down just a little bit so it's going to look i don't know more realistic in a way and i also want to add some effects because i kind of like the echo effect when it's white it sort of gives it like this glowing glowing look that i really really like and this would be the first design let me just download it and see what it does because when i'm approaching a new platform i don't know how things are gonna look i mean they say to put it in a minimum of 1000 pixels but how is the photo going to look on my store so i'm just going to download it and quickly upload it on to my pay hip account to add this product image here i'm also thinking i might want to go into place it and create another mock-up of you know someone actually coloring this so let me just do that real quick and i have these photos of kids coloring i have a person coloring here maybe that would be a good one i have this photo which could be really nice i have a coloring book which i'm not going to use because it's not a physical book it's a it's a printable one so i'm not going to be using that let me just go here now i'm going to choose this one and this one and i'm going to insert image from my device let's quickly add my mandela's like this one for example and download it and let's choose a different one and download that too and obviously you can make full-on mock-ups of showing everything that people get it's very very very easy to create it's really quite simple i have downloaded both of these and i'm gonna upload them you can upload them first to canva add your own logo to them like your own style or you can directly upload them here whichever you choose for your branding and for your style and right now what i'm seeing here is that the photos are going to come off a bit squishy because they're presented as a 1000 by 1000 pixels like a full-on square but i still don't know if that's what's going to be in my store so i'm going to wait with this a bit to see if i want to crop them using canva again and go down and just write my description right now i don't know a lot about what i want to write so just wrote down enjoy hours of fun and relaxation with my new printable mandela coloring book this unique mandela coloring book was illustrated by me during my art therapy sessions and it offers five coloring pages you can simply download and print at home file tab pdf coloring book you can add so much more information here this could be a very very long description of a very short one and then we have here the advanced options so this product is tax exempt and that is based on your country your taxation how your country defines basically you know printable items if this is an e-book it also is some sort of a tax benefit in certain countries you can unlist this product which means the product will be active you only you can see it but it will not be shown on your product page in your stores you can also upload a preview file for your customers which means for example if this was an ebook of some someone reading it so if it was like 250 pages of a content ebook you could upload a preview file five pages so people could start reading it or for example if i make a 20 page printable coloring book i can upload one coloring page for free and basically when people want to look at this product they will get one free product and this is a really really nice feature i can limit the number of times people can purchase this product and i can automatically subscribe customers to a mailing list if i have a mailing list integrated with pay hip or generate a unique license key for each sale so for example for software's i don't know if you've ever used wordpress but sometimes if i buy a theme it can only be used once so i get like a license key and then i put it within the system which is not really relevant to us and let's just you know add this product and see what happens this is the product and show me my product page and remember our shop is not yet designed so if i go to my product page this is my product page five dollars printable mandela coloring book enter your payment details to be able to receive payments because it's still not done and let's just go back from the product page and back to the dashboard where you'll see that you're now 55 percent complete with your store set up let's set up the checkout because i want to be able to get paid so here i can connect pay him basically to my paypal account or to my stripe account and the five percent or two percent or zero percent that you'll have to pay pay hip for your commission for your transaction you might also have to pay paypal it's based on your account settings or your or stripe and now i'm going to link this to my paypal account and i'm linked and there's also a place where you can write down a statement that will appear on the customer's bank statement so for example what was this so let me just write down pdf coloring because well that's what they bought and save my settings and you can see here that i've completed 85 percent of my store setup and what i need to do right now is celebrate upload my profile image add a short bio and customize store design so let me just upload a profile image just click here and i'm adding a cute image i've taken a few days ago and my name again i can edit it so i can get it to may arroyo but it will not change this one i can add my bio let me just write something up real quick so i wrote a quick bio about myself i can add a website link in this case it could be to me or it could be to the new website i'm not sure i want people to visit it i can add my instagram link which could be mine or the one that i'll set up for this youtube link facebook and twitter i kind of wish they'd had a pinterest build link here but you know never mind let's just save settings and i want to see if my photo was updated because it doesn't really look like it was so i've completed 95 of my store setup let's go to customize the store design and it first takes me to customize the product page but i want to customize the store page so that's my main page and this is pretty much how it looks right now which i don't like it very much and as you can see here my photo didn't quite make it let me just go in and find because i need i think i need to find a photo that is full on square i'm just going to go to canva where i already have this square set up ready and just go through my photos of my uploads and find a good photo of me to download as a full square and then use later kind of like this one let me just download the second page and re-upload it as my profile photo because you know guys this is the most important part you go into these things and you should just be flexible you just go in check out what you've done and basically by that decide what i need to do more let me just go to my settings back and here's the profile image i'm just going to click on it again and upload this one and now that photo is visible because that photo was a full square which is what i needed to do to get to begin with let me just refresh this store page and now you can see a photo of me but this is not really a nice store right it doesn't really look like a store so let me just go back to dashboard and click here and now it tells me that i'm 75 because i still need to customize store and let's customize the design and now that these changes have been set up the store looks completely different i mean this is how the store is going to look and the system actually kind of resembles shopify so we have the collections page we have custom pages we have product pages subscription pages blog pages that we can all design but collection page is basically your home page it's the first page that people get to because if i'm going to refresh this now this is what people get to see the exact same thing and what i cannot move here is the header and the footer because they all have these fixed positions but i have my collections and about me so i want to edit my header first of all and here i can change the entire store style which means the fonts and the colors so let's go to the fonts and see what fonts they have okay let's go to headings and see that the font is proxima something and i don't want it let's see if they have laundrina no they do not have londrina oh it's my favorite font and they don't have it not good let's see what other fonts they have maybe i'll find something else to be good and suitable i like this one and here i can also change the weight of it the size of it any kind of other heading or go back and change the fonts of the paragraph but for the paragraph i actually like their exact style i can change the style of the buttons so for example the button here has this font which i like or go to miscellaneous's where i have other features but i kind of really do like these options they're very nice and advanced settings to upload a page background photo to custom do it yourself with css if you know a bit of coding and to control the colors of everything so the highlight colors the black dark whatever colors i have here in the store and i kind of like it this way guys so when you do it yourselves if you want to change the whole color scheme go ahead and do it but i really do like these colors so i'm going to go back and i'm going to go to my header and i'm going to choose the store logo which can be the store title just the name of me or i can upload a different logo and for my store logo let me just go here back to my canva i want to see how it looks if i take a store logo that is you know full on squared so i'm just going to write down pdf i'm just designing something really simple here guys just to get started obviously i think i'm going to really really redo it later because i would want something a bit more personalized but i just want to see how it looks if i need a square logo if i need a horizontal logo so i'm just gonna upload this photo here and as you can see it just created this like small thing so now that i know what it does i'm gonna go back here i'm gonna put this all the way down and put this here i'm going to try and center the pdf in the middle between these letters like this and i'm going to download this photo with the transparent background because i do want a transparent background i think it's important right now and after the image is being downloaded i'm going to manually crop it obviously you can just open a different size on canva but this was faster for me go back to my editor and upload this photo this time and this would be my logo and choose this image i can change the size of the logo the height of the logo but it kind of looked nice when it was on 50 and you can click here if you want to use a different logo for mobile devices or just save my changes and the store title is not going to be mail anymore it's going to be something to match google seo and save my changes and as you can see the photo that i've uploaded here to this shop it was a square photo but now it became more of a vertical look which is good because i centered the text in here so that makes it okay we have the navigation links in the header which are these that we can edit at a different link for example i can add my pinterest link i can add my website link or any other link that i want to add i can customize how the logo versus the menu looks like in a way i really do like these settings or the logo can be in the center or the logo can be above this which is also kind of nice so i'm going to choose this layout i can choose to display a search button here or not and basically transform this header however i want it to look like and i can also edit an announcement bar and for example i already know that some of these pages i i want to offer like a social sharing discount so i wrote down new social sharing gets you an instant discount more details inside the books and i can choose to show this announcement everywhere or just on a home page and save my settings the announcement could also have a link so for example you can do like new uh 50 discount coupon code on instagram and then link to your instagram and now i'm going to go back and i can add different sections so right now i have the collections here which only shows one product because that's what i have and i have the about me section but i can add a gallery for example if i have colored this book or these books or all of my works in different ways i can add photos of them i can add a slideshow that would be really really awesome whether it's going to be at the top with the header or at the bottom below i can add different lists with photos without photos i can add images this is like really really easy i can add text spots like this and i can also embed a video so if you want to discuss your product if you want to talk about something you can add a youtube video link here i can add featured product section featured collection sections featured collection lists of sections also a section for testimonials if you have people who gave you reviews on their products i can add a logo list for example your partners which is not really relevant to me i can add a contact us forum down below as well as a newsletter sign up here and also another about me section this is like super super easy guys and i really want you to go ahead and play around with it and try to figure out what it is that you want to say and i can also edit my footer for the entire website i can add a menu to the footer i can turn it into different types of columns and have like you know a logo and social links put in my logo image here add a text under the logo save these changes i don't have currently social links to add because i don't have facebook for it i just have pinterest and they don't have pinterest for some reason but if i'm going back to editing the footer i can add another footer column for a newsletter sign up like this one another footer column for custom text like this one and another one for another menu for example to my pinterest account let me just grab a link i just opened this today guys like five minutes ago i'm really looking forward to working on this project you know guys really really really looking forward to working on this project thinking i'm going to make it one of my main projects for 2021 to be a part of my passive income in 2022 and i'm basically adding it here let's save my changes and all of this i'm editing basically on the collection page but let's go to the contact page so this is my contact page the top is the same the bottom is the same and it just says get in touch you can click on here change the text that you have here you can also add different sections so for example if what if i want my contact section to also have my image or a slideshow or a gallery i think that would be nice so i'm going to choose this gallery and it's going to be either under or above my contact section so for example i can go and save this gallery for example these would have been photos of the colored pages for my store and i can drag the contact form below so this is what people are going to see when they come in i can also add like text above it and really really customize it and make it my own and let me just publish this basically saving everything and visit my store now so my store now has just one item i think that i'll make another video in a few weeks once everything is going to be set up here and just show you how i built everything i think that could also be useful i can go to my contact page which is this one and let me just go into one of the pages here and this would be the page that people get to see and the photos are changing with me like they're changing their volume but maybe i would want to have all of them you know on the square footing to make sure that everything looks good but right now what i have here is i said to people that if they share this on social media they get an instant discount so i actually have to create it guys and let's just go back here and exit our story builder go to marketing click on social discounts guys it's really simple add a social discount so i want to apply this social discount to all of my products and offer 25 off if people share this on social media and i'm going to create this social discount and this is great because this is basically an automatic coupon so if i refresh the page that i'm at right now for the coloring mandela you can see that if someone facebooks it tweets it or saves it to pinterest they get 25 off automatically it's insane guys it's the best way to make sure that your business pushes forward with people just you know just flat out sharing everything that you do to get an automatic discount that you have to do nothing for like they don't have to contact you you can also add coupons different coupon codes for percentage of sale adjust the name of the coupon code for a special product or for all your products you can limit the number of times it's going to be used and give it an expiration date and then share this coupon on social media and also have an affiliate for this so you can give this link to your affiliates and they will sign up using their own paypal account and they will get links to basically promote you and get money and commission from it it's a pretty amazing system even though you have to pay your affiliates yourself you can connect this system to any mailing list we have aweber campaign monitor convert to kit drip elastic email email octopus get response mata mimi mailchimp and mailerlite you can also do cross-selling which if you have two products you can basically sort of promote them together so customers will be able to add both of them into the cart or see one of them later on as well as add upgrades to basically anything so for example if you want to have a certain product like let's say i have a coloring book that i want to push out so anytime someone will buy any coloring book from my store i there would be like a pop-up for a special product for less price this system is really really really awesome i kind of like it the analytics here pretty much looks empty because i just opened up the shop but it will be very easy for you guys to check out your daily views your daily sales you can adjust to it to periods of times that you want to have a look at you can also see where people come into your store as well as view a map so for example if i had 10 people coming from the united that obviously will also have to be within the wordpress website that i'm building so actually i need a font that is also available on canva on my wordpress account as well as on pay hip so i'm going to be doing a lot of research in the next few days i'm also looking to gather up a lot of more of my printable coloring pages that i have on so many different folders on my laptop that i just couldn't find them and really book them together into printable coloring books and also offering this free option for one free page like the preview option which is amazing and the social sharing and work on a facebook account for this website and work on an instagram account for this website and really start building my ecosystem the right way but just like i said in the beginning this is not just about selling coloring pages online selling printable coloring books this could also work for selling printable planners selling printable calendars printable planner sheets like sticker sheets you can also be selling your ebooks and whatever you write you can sell out educational sheets like homeschooling sheets or any kind of flash cards you can sell up one product and just set the whole shop to talk about this one product or you can set up multiple multiple products as well as subscriptions and physical items which we will be talking about more in future videos if there's more content that you
