[Music] hello and welcome into my latest live broadcast today is Saturday it is the fourth of January 2020 welcome in and today I'm gonna show you very quickly kind of a shorter video for me how to make a bootable Windows 10 USB installation media now I've already shown how to do this before in a previous video it slightly changed a little bit and in fact there are at least three entirely different ways you can go about doing this the way I'm going to show you today is going to require you have a Windows computer the other way I've shown you you could use anything connected to the Internet but this will require that you have a Windows computer so before I get started I want to shout out to Michael Brooks Michael had a bad CPU funny we need you never hear about that for years and years and years and then boom boom twice one right after the other then Michael decided to upgrade his system I think and he didn't want the replacement CPU it was no longer gonna do him any good but he just decided to send the CPU in for warranty and then when it came back in he would send it to me so he can give it away in a future build now combined with there was an h3 10 like mini-itx board that was contributed by Ryan in Nevada I think this will work in there so we might be able to piece together something we've got plenty of little solid-state drives 240 gig solid-state drives lots of power supplies just need a case for it and we'll have a system to give away what Michael sent this just arrived in today's mail moments ago this is an i7 7700 it's 3.6 gigahertz it's definitely no slouch and and again this is how Intel does their warranty replacement also back on the counter behind me there's a power supply that came in today from Corsair just like Intel you know they said just mail back the CPU and you end up getting a heatsink back as well of course Sarah did the same thing they said just mail the power supply keep all your cables and they mailed us a brand new 750m in a sealed box just like you would buy at the store which means we la will have a lot of extra cables which is fantastic I love when companies do that I really do because the older cables you know they get dirty or they get lost and and then one other thing arrived in the mail today this is a product I'll be reviewing maybe later this week the folks at our Rico asked me if I'd be interested in testing a 512 gig portable NB me solid-state drive and you know we've we've done these tests before these usually get about a thousand give or take megabytes per second the box says 9:40 here and it's got a three year warranty on it and I like that it's smaller than what you can make yourself and then we can compare the price and the performance and everything on it so that'll be coming up hopefully later this week and my thanks to the folks at Orrico or or Eko for reaching out to me and asking if I would be interested in reviewing that any sort of memory storage hard drives I'm very interested in reviewing so and while I'm talking a few contributions have come in so before we get started with today's tutorial let me give some quick shots out to the generous folks in the chat room who are contributing and helping keep this a sponsor free channel Madhi uol's contributed $2 Brendon Looney contributed 2 pounds Eddie to adjust contributed 20 euro very generous Thank You Eddie and he says it's just because and Michael B says hey Keri keep up the great work I enjoy your videos right out and thank you Michael so what I'm trying to accomplish with this video is to show you the easiest way possible that you can make a Windows 10 USB installation media that you always see me use I've got one I keep it right here this is my Windows 10 flash drive you see I just took a little label maker and I labeled it because that's all this flash drive can be used for now these flash drives are a bit more money these are the SanDisk Extreme Pro USB flash drives they do costs three to four times more money than any other Drive of the same size and that's because they're very fast your speed doesn't matter for you buy the cheapest one the cheapest flash drive to do this you need a flash drive that is 8 gigabytes minimum size so it's gotta be an 8 gig flash drive it can be larger than 8 however you won't be able to use the flash drive for anything else so if you were to use a 64 gig flash drive you will essentially have 56 gigs unavailable for you to use so that's kind of a waste of money to buy a flash drive that big and then only be able to utilize that much of it but you can do it if you want to I'm just suggesting buy a flash drive 8 gigs and if you can only find 16 that's fine too there's 16 or cheap and again if you want to if if speed is important to you when you're looking at the price of a flash drive look at the performance of it as well and not just what the manufacturer says look down at the reviews a at Amazon and see which ones are reviewed the best they'll usually have screenshots of crystal discs mark testing I love when the reviewers do that and that can help gauge how much you want to spend for what you're gonna get back in return now for me I do Windows 10 installs multiple times a week you may only need to do it once a year not even that so the speed issue may not be an issue for you oh and David Kane just contributed $15 he says Carrie I'm wondering what's the best version of Windows tend to go to if you're using windows 7 ultimate and have a coke on me and give the dogs that cookie that's a very good question you can upgrade to Windows 10 for free from a Windows 7 if you have a legitimate legal license of Windows 7 Ultimate you can use the same tool I'm about to show you and it should upgrade you for free so you shouldn't have to make any decision it will decide for you and it should activate it no cost when you use this tool this tool is completely free and is completely legal it is provided by Microsoft and it will install Windows 10 on a clean install in what we call a trial mode or a testing mode it it will fully function with no expiration but it'll be a watermark on your screen and some personal is a options won't be available to you until you activate it it's the activation that costs money it's the activation where we talk about piracy so if you have a valid Windows 7 license it will work to activate Windows 10 and there's already a video on how to do that here in the channel and I'll make sure I link to it later on in the video notes below but essentially what I'm gonna do I've got this computer behind me that I just built so this is a nice clean install I don't have anything on it and I thought this will be a great machine to demonstrate this on because there's nothing unique about it this is just a brand new build and I just have some testing software on it so let's let's go to the desktop here and I can walk you through this very very simple process and again there's more than one way to accomplish this I've already shown a completely different way about a year two years ago and now I'm gonna show you the way Microsoft wants you to do it which is actually much much easier especially for those of you that are not technical people so let me switch over to this desktop now there it is and let's go to when we see I have to make my screen bigger there okay I can see now so what we're gonna do is we're gonna open our browser it doesn't matter if you use Firefox or Chrome this is a new install so we just we have edge on there and we're gonna go to Google which we've already gone to Google up here and I can save you this step with a link is already in the video notes for where I'm about to go but this is how easy it is to do you would do will do windows media and then I don't have to type any further you'll see the first option media creation tool right there that's the tool we want that's what makes this so easy and the very first link that appears right here and again this link is in the video notes right now we're gonna click on that and I'll make this full screen just to make sure you can see it big and bold this was really super super easy to do now if you have Windows 7 you want to upgrade it to Windows 10 or you want to do a full clean install of Windows 10 follow these steps first we're gonna click create Windows 10 installation me to click it says download tool now this is what we want right here and of course that's the link for it so we're gonna click on that and then we're going to save this into our downloads directory once it's been saved we're gonna click on run down here we click on run and of course it says you know do you want to allow this device to make change yes yes the software is from Microsoft it's good and now we can close the browser we don't need the browser open anymore so now the tool is running this is the Windows 10 media creation tool and whether you're running Windows 7 Windows 8 or Windows 10 you can run this tool on it and you can do everything you see me do if you upgrade from windows 7 to Windows 10 or from windows 8 to Windows 10 you will not lose any programs you will not lose any data Microsoft may tell you your Windows security essentials is not compatible when you do the upgrade you just hit confirm and Microsoft will automatically uninstall it for you and reinstall the new version with Windows 10 you don't have to physically go to the control panel and uninstall anything unless the upgrade identifies something on your system that's not compatible which very rarely ever happens but you often will see that Microsoft Security Essentials things but you don't you don't have to do anything other than click confirm so back to making our media this is your sort of end-user License Agreement and you know you can go through and read all this if you'd like I certainly won't stop you but my videos are already long enough without reading all of this out loud to you so we'll leave that to you and you only have one choice to proceed and that is to click accept whether you like it or not is sort of irrelevant now it's going to process a little bit more this is a brand new computer and it's very very fast this may take a little bit more time on the machine you're using be patient and we want to get our USB flash drive ready so well that's running let me get let's go back on this screen that we see right now it's asking if we want to upgrade so if you had Windows 7 or 8 you would just select upgrade this PC now if you wanted to upgrade it which has nothing to do with making a USB media okay that's totally separate but it's the same tool you see our second option is to create the installation media tool you can use USB DVD or even just save an ISO file but to keep this super super simple for those of you out there who are not you know geeks like I am just click create installation media and click Next now this comes up and says use the recommended options for this PC which is probably these options here I always uncheck this just because I like to have control but I'm not gonna change anything we want English we want the Windows 10 it'll put on both editions of home and pro in fact every version of Windows 10 that's why the specific version is not listed here and and of course we want it to be 64-bit nobody should be running 32-bit anymore you won't be able to see more than 4 gigs of RAM if you have a 32-bit operating system whether it's Windows Linux Mac whatever so you definitely want 64-bit then click Next right down here and it says do you want to make an ISO file and that's just a file of an image an image file or do you want to make a bootable USB flash drive and it needs to be at least 8 gigabytes remember you won't be able to use the flash drive for anything else so yes I want to make a USB flash drive and I hit next now it says we can't find a USB flash drive now at this point let me flip back over to my main camera so you can watch me here at this point I've got my flash drive this is just a blank flash drive if this flash drive has anything on it I will lose everything on it when I begin this process it's going to erase this flash drive if it wasn't already erased and turned it into a Windows 10 installation media and I will not be able to use it for anything else unless reformat it and then of course it'll be back in the condition it is right now which is blank so I'm gonna go ahead and plug this into any available USB port I want this to go quickly so I'm going to pick a blue USB port because that's a fast flash drive and plugging it into a black USB port would slow that flash drive down defeating the whole purpose of why I paid extra for it now that's plugged in if we go back over to the main screen the computer desktop I mean to say now we'll see that the desk the the flash drive is loaded here and it shows its contents are empty which again doesn't really matter because I mean it's gonna verify to you if there's something on there you thought it was empty you find out oh wait a minute it's not empty you better back it up now if there's anything you want on it we're gonna close this down because we don't need to see emptiness and we're gonna refresh the drives list and there it is there's a this is a 64 gig Corsair not of Corsair the flash drive I'm using I thought I grabbed a 16 gig I grabbed a 64 that's fine for all intents and purposes it doesn't really matter it's just and I want to keep r.e.m ffice izing you will not be able to use the flash drive for anything else so it's kind of a I could have got away with spending less money right buying a smaller flash drive but I'm just gonna use this for demonstration purposes or maybe you're not even gonna keep it maybe you just need to make your Windows Media USB tool use it and then erase it and use it for something else maybe you only have one flash drive that's fine too you can always remake it again in the future when you need it come back to this video and reuse your flash drive again however regardless of that that is the driver selecting here it sees any USB flash drives we have installed so I recommend you only put one in or you may be confused over which one you're using and then we're gonna click Next and that pretty much they think at this point we just wait if memory serves correctly you just sit around and wait until it's done and it's going to process and create an ISO image and then place that onto your USB flash drive and when it's done you can now boot your computer to USB and begin the Windows 10 installation process you can also use this if you have Windows 7 or Windows 8 and while you're in Windows 7 or Windows 8 run setup off the USB flash drive and it will offer to do an upgrade you don't want to do the upgrade from a clean boot if you're running Windows 7 or Windows 8 and you want to do the upgrade either use the tool that I just showed you and select the option to upgrade this PC now or you can make the media like I'm showing you now and plug this media into your Windows 7 or Windows 8 computer and run setup off of it from your Windows 7 or Windows 8 desktop and you'll see this is moving along pretty rapidly I want to emphasize to you that downloading windows 10 and creating this media tool is perfectly legal Microsoft wants you to use it they want you to have it furthermore they want you to buy a product key so what they're gonna do is they're gonna make Windows 10 a little annoying to use and till you buy a product key but it will continue to work and if you don't mind the annoyances you never have to pay for it and it's perfectly legal now that being said when you upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8 you can upgrade to the same version so Windows 7 home to Windows 10 home windows 7 pro to Windows 10 Pro when it comes to 32-bit the 64-bit I'm not sure I think you'd have to do a clean install to go from 32-bit to 64-bit because nothing is compatible you have to completely reinstall the operating system from scratch and whether or not those product keys will work from Windows 7 and 8 on a 32-bit version to a 64 I've not tested so I don't know for sure so we're already about 50% through this process and this is all being done live in real time to give you an idea of what you can expect if you were to go through this and try this yourself and while that's happening I think I can put my camera back on where's my camera there I am and I'll just put myself right over here yeah that works for me Fritz's contributed $2 thank you so much Patrick's left me know that asrock came out with a new bios for this system behind me that's good to know we can we can do that too if times permitting we're at 99 percent of progress now we went back to zero that's so what that did is that just downloaded Windows 10 which is over 4 gigs about four and a half five gigs and so it verified the download and now it's taking the file and it's moving it to the flash drive now so if I look over at the light on the flash drive it's probably blinking over there as the flash drive is now writing the file and that's why the flash drive needs to be a minimum of eight gigs because we're going to use about five of it and they don't sell a five gig everything's in multiples of two 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512 1024 2048 4096 90 128 yada yada yada yada yada I think I think those numbers are right I don't know once it starts getting big I need a calculator but anyway this just takes a few moments it's really not a big deal and you can reuse this flash drive over and over and over and over and over again to install Windows 10 every time a new version of Windows 10 comes out in the spring and in the fall I suggest you go through this process and make a new bootable installation media because if you don't then you will have to download that big update to get it caught up-to-date so this will save you a step if you just do this about every 6 months if you're gonna keep one loaded otherwise like I said if you only have one flash drive make this when you need it erase it when you're done use it for other stuff when you need it again rinse and repeat so you don't have to keep it forever you don't have to dedicate a flash drive to it forever just dedicate it long enough to when you need it and be sure and update it you don't want to be putting on a Windows version that's older and then go through updates that's wasting your time when you could have just updated it for free and you'll be the same exact method except the file that downloads will be an updated file but that will be transparent to you it will be the same process it'll look the same except when you install it it'll be a newer version so hopefully I'm clear on that now we're about 90% done 99% done and that's it we're done so we can click finish that's all there is to it now a lot of people are confused on how to get their computer to start booting off of a USB flash drive and I wish I could tell you there was just one way everybody could follow but unfortunately with some manufacturers you push f10 others you push f12 others you push f8 others are go into the BIOS by hitting delete or f2 or you know there's all kinds of different ways manufacturers will run that process if you have Windows 10 installed already you can tell Windows 10 to boot off the next boot from a bootable flash drive but that doesn't make sense why you would do that why you would install Windows 10 when you already have it Windows 10 has built-in tools to handle all this for you automatically without needing to do this so I can only show you on the hardware we've got here so this is an AZ rock board and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna tell I want the as rock board into the BIOS but once I'm into the BIOS and and however you need to get into your BIOS you will go to where it says boot or save and exit and somewhere in there there should be options for where you want your computer to start from for one boot only so if I try that now I don't know how this is going to go but let's give it a shot I have fastboot enabled on the system which is why it boots so freakin fast and it makes it darn near impossible to get into the BIOS quick enough you've got to hit the right key now for for asrock and msi and asus and gigabyte if you're a home builder and you've got a desktop where you know cuz this is the same process with a laptop but when we talk about the process of getting into the BIOS all the main motherboard manufacturers before I just mentioned you can hit delete over and over and over again before your windows logo appears you've got to do just keep hitting the Delete key until you get into that BIOS I'm gonna try that now be successful but to make my chances a little better I'm gonna choose a complete shutdown rather than a restart because the restart happens even quicker once all these lights go off I'll know the system is off there it goes now I can turn it back on and immediately start hitting delete right away right away you can hear I'll repetitively hidden a/c still didn't happen fast enough and this is where you can get yourself in trouble because getting into the BIOS can be a little tricky now as Rock has a utility you can download on their motherboard drivers page that has a little utility to restart the computer into the UEFI mode and Windows 10 has that option too and I'm just going to show you how to do that with Windows 10 otherwise we just have to keep repeating this until we you know you can even hold the button down try different things to get you into that if you turn fast-food off you'll be akin to the BIOS a lot easier but fastboot the whole point of fastboot is that it removes that delay looking for that BIOS key in order to speed up your boot time and you know as you can see it works really really well but what I can do if I if I go to the control panel in Windows 10 if I go to the gear if I click on the start button click on this gear where it says settings and I'm going to go to update and security and then I want to go to recovery right here on the left side then I want to go to restart now under advanced startup restart now now it's not restarting don't let this fool you now we want to click use a device use a USB Drive network connection or Windows Recovery DVD so what do you want to use I want to use a UEFI removable device we're not going to boot off the network and we're not going to boot off a CD or DVD we want to boot off the UEFI USB flash drive and now it should automatically restart and start off of that flash drive and we should see the Windows 10 installation options appear so you'll see it slowed down quite a bit and let's see if I'm right if it boots into windows or does it boot into now see it booted into the Windows Media installation which is our USB that simple now when it comes to how we're going to get into the BIOS another way like let's say you've got Windows 7 you can't do that you don't have an as rock board so you don't have the option let's say I'm downloading a piece of software to reboot you into UEFI I can hold the power button down until the machine shuts off here there it is turn it back on remember I always do this from the power down and I'm just gonna hold the delete button down and see if that helps at all I always try different things you can see the bottom right corner told us to press f2 I think is what it said there or delete to get into the BIOS that by holding the button down that got us in now I can go into the BIOS here under and again your BIOS is probably gonna look different than this unless you have an AZ rock board but they're all basically the same you have got to not be a robot you've got to use your eyes and you've got to read the options on your screen if you're not willing to do that you're gonna be emailing me saying I can't I don't know how to do it and I can't help you because I cannot see the unique hardware that you have and if you can't see it when it's right in front of you I don't know how you think I can help you what you can do is reach out to the manufacturer email or call their support or google it and find out how other people are booting on the same hardware you have I don't know what else to tell you each manufacturer does it a little bit different and certainly with laptops it can be a lot more convoluted but at least if you have your own desktop that you built not a pre-built machine but when you built you probably have gigabyte Asus MSI or as rock is your motherboard and if you do it's gonna be very very close to what I'm about to show you so when we look at the screen in fact let me make this bigger so like it see fullscreen on my side here there we go we look here we're in a basic screen we're not in the advanced screen and you can tell because there's very few options here for us and if you look at the upper right corner way up here it's my mouse gonna work there's my mouse if you look all the way up here it says Advanced Mode f6 now when gigabyte boards Asus boards that beats typically done at the bottom of the screen but whatever that means we can click on that with the mouse or we can hit f6 on the keyboard specifically with this motherboard so I'll hit f6 now if we go all the way to the right you'll see all these options at the top it says main OC Tweaker advanced tool hardware monitor security boot guess which one we want we want boot and on boot there are these options there's the fast boot that's why everything's booting so quickly boot we can change our boot option here but that changes it permanently if we only want to do this one time then this isn't even the section even though it should be I thought it was gonna be in here but this doesn't dissuade me I just know I'm in the wrong screen so we'll go to exit and you'll often find this in the exit where the options to save and exit your BIOS like you see here and typically at least on gigabyte asus and asrock boards and i think on msi you'll see boot override listed here now again you'd think that would be under boot but it's typically listed under the save and exit area and now you can choose two different boot options our intel SSD and Vimy drive or our SanDisk which is the USB flash drive and if I click on SanDisk twice the machine is now going to attempt to boot from that just this one time and I'm gonna prove that to you because once the Windows 10 media starts which it's there it is right there I'm gonna hold the power button down it's gonna turn off and then I'm gonna hit the power button again leaving the flash drive in it will not boot to it now now it's gonna boot to the internal drive and this is important because after windows installs the it has to reboot to finish the install but if it keeps if you've set it to automatically boot to the drive it'll just go into a circle and start the whole installation over again with the main screen what language do you want it doesn't undo anything you would at that point turn the computer off and pull out your flash drive and then turn it back on and then the install can complete as it boots off of the process off of your internal drive that you're installing it on or you could go into your BIOS and make that change to boot to the other drive first which is why there's a difference between changing your boot oder permanently and just a temporary boot override and again if you remove the drive that's another way to solve it at least until you plug the drive back in at some point in the future and boot from it incidental accidentally but that's all there is it's really super super simple perfectly 100 percent legal on the up and up it's not complicated it's not rocket surgery it's as I've just shown you very very simple now let's talk about upgrading the BIOS on the asrock motherboard again how you upgrade BIOS is varies from one manufacturer to another asrock has this tool where instead of going to the asrock site downloading the BIOS putting it on a flash drive the flash drive typically has to be formatted in fat32 or it won't see it all this other stuff you want to use a small flash drive because fat32 only sees up to like four gigs anyway they see it gets all convoluted so asrock thought well how can we make this easier for our customers and here's what they did let's once again let's start back into the BIOS and I'm gonna repeat the same thing I did which is to go to the settings to update in security to recovery restart now and I want to troubleshoot Advanced Options and UEFI firmware settings so it says you want to restart to change your UEFI firmware settings yes now I went through that rather quickly but this is YouTube you guys have a pause button and a rewind button and you can run it through it your own speed as many times as you need to now it's gonna restart into the BIOS without me touching a button which is fantastic super easy if I want to check for a new BIOS and if I have a standard internet connection like people have at home all the IP addresses and everything are handed all automatically by your router so unless you're one of those people that's you know done some customization then you probably don't need me to explain any of this to you you already know how to update your BIOS so for the rest of us to update the BIOS we're going to go to f6 again in the upper right corner it says Advanced Mode and then we're gonna go to where it says tool right up at the top of the page right up here and we want UEFI update utility there's instant flash that's if we want to copy it to a flash drive and do it locally and then there's internet flash so we're gonna do internet flash and what that's gonna do now is it's going to get an IP address from a wired Ethernet connection that Wireless it's got to be a wired Ethernet connection to your router this is normally something that happens in Windows but we're not in Windows we're in your BIOS so we're gonna let the BIOS reach out get an IP address from your router this may take a couple minutes again it's not it's not as fast as Windows you'll also see there's a QR code in the bottom right corner of the screen that you could use your smart phone to go to the website directly I don't use QR codes myself but if that's something you want to do that's why it's there so we're gonna wait for this to initialize and hopefully it will not take too much longer I mean this is taking longer than making the darn Windows 10 installation media but what this does is it takes all the guesswork out you don't have to find the right motherboard and the right bios for that board not that that's super hard but this is even easier than that because this will automatically go and recognize if there's a new update compared to what you have where as I do that as a human being as a technician I use my brain and I look at the version that I have and the version that's available and I am able to determine as a human being within a relatively short period of time if the version available is new that being said for some people that's asking too much apparently so so by doing this this does all of that for you but I probably would have been done by now that's the truth I'd have been done so we're just gonna let this go a little bit longer and see if it's going to get in it shouldn't be taking this this is ridiculous yeah it's clearly got a problem so we're gonna try again sometimes you just repeat it even though we've changed nothing we'll try it one more time just like doing anything now yeah so and I want to emphasize asrock did this so that it would be easier but it requires far more patience one of the things that I like about the way I work is I work at my speed and not at this speed like just sitting here watching a this thing go 0% is crazy I know I'm plugged into the network so this should work and if it doesn't we'll do it the old style which is to just go to as rocks website look up the phantom gaming 7 motherboard click on the bio section we've got BIOS version 1.2 I understand version 1.3 is out will download it on the streaming computer copy into the flash drive or we could actually we could do it all on this machine now and I think about it because we've got windows on it usually I do the BIOS update before I install Windows which this machine already had the latest at the time was 1.2 whenever you're checking your BIOS you should see your current bios in a list so if you're looking at BIOS and it says you've got version 80 to be like an Intel nook might say and your BIOS version is cff like those aren't even the same format what you want to do when you look at the latest bios it'll show you previous bios's and you want to look through the previous bios to see if a number matches the number you have if not you're probably looking at the wrong motherboard and save you some time now I'm just absolutely done waiting for this this is ridiculous I'm gonna try one more time turn this off turn it back on I'm gonna hold the Delete key down we're going into the BIOS one more time maybe if it lets me in good f6 go to tool go to internet flash and let's just see if maybe this time it'll cooperate one last one last chance for asrock to show us their amazing technology here oh oh it's moving this time much better this is more what I expected to see the first time around and it says my firmware version is up to date is it or isn't it now this is what I don't like about automation I keep telling you guys automating things is a huge mistake unless you're in a constantly audited and supervise it it's just I don't have that faith I don't believe our firmware version is up to date I truly don't believe that's true so I'm gonna click okay and we're gonna exit out of here and we're gonna go back into Windows we don't have to save any changes here we'll just uh just get back into Windows and you'll see how fast this machine boots it's incredibly quick nice okay and so the way I'm going to check just to see if I'm being lied to so I'm gonna go back to Google again and I'm gonna type in the name the manufacturer and model of this motherboard which is as rock and it's a phantom gaming seven that's all I have to type and the very first link that comes up you'll see it's gonna take us to Azra comm forward slash Intel z3 90 fan and games in that is the link we want so that's why I like Google the first link is the one you want now up here you'll see it says support and I don't know why a suits and gigabyte all these guys do this this is not the support you want that's generic support for asrock we want specific support for this product which is down at the bottom we click on support then we go to BIOS and it says the current bios version is 1.3 well what BIOS version do I have let's minimize this and we'll bring up cpu-z now cpu-z is available for download just go to Google type in CPU Z and download the zip file will run the 64-bit version it's portable there's nothing to install on the zip version and then when this starts it'll give us all our information of our hardware so our CPU our cache is and then of course what we want is the mainboard under the mainboard we look under the version of BIOS it's P 1.2 the the asrock website said it's 1.3 and the bios going into the the UEFI bios and having it check for us said that we were current with 1.2 so it lied so we're gonna just download the instant flash version we can do it through windows - I don't normally do this but let's try it because we can so you'll see that you can update through internet flash which is we download the file copy it to a flash drive reboot into the BIOS and then manually point it to the file we downloaded and let it update this requires less knowledge this you just download the Windows File and you run it within windows so we can save it first then open it and we'll close the browser and we run the executable file which is asrama XE oh we have to extract everything first so we'll say extract all and it's gonna put it all in the Downloads folder now we run as rom exe and we can click YES on that now it says before BIOS update please close all applications make sure you're not overclocking your system do you want to continue well we just did a clean installations running in the background I don't have Word Excel or Outlook or the browser nothing's open we have a couple of windows open but that's ok we can leave those open or we can close both of them doesn't matter I can close cpu-z it's just a good idea close everything then hit OK now it's going to read the flash that we have in basically what appears to be a DOS window and it says the system is going to shut down are you ready press Y for yes press n for no we'll hit the letter Y and now it's important you keep your hands off everything keep your hands off your keyboard keep your hands off your mouse and just sit and be patient and let the software do its thing if you interrupt this process you may brick your machine make it completely unusable so it's very important but if you're one of those people that ask to push buttons you need to walk away for about a couple minutes otherwise if you're well behaved sit on your hands and watch until it's done now this may take longer on some other boards than other motherboards and there are different processes like most HP's and Dells you're gonna update your BIOS just like this you're not gonna update it the way I show on gigabyte and Asus where you put the file on a flash drive because they're dealing with end users and they cannot rely on an end user following directions so as long as the end user downloads the right file the file checks that's why it read the BIOS before it started it wanted to make sure that we weren't trying to flash the wrong BIOS if we had the wrong BIOS it would have stopped and said no go you've got the wrong files not compatible with your hardware now back in the old days it would have tried to flash it and that's why you'll still hear people today say oh this is dangerous and you should be careful those are the people that were around back in the day like I was they have not embraced today the technology and how it's evolved it's come a long long way so we're not running for 86's anymore and if anybody tells you it would be careful upgrading your BIOS you just let them know we're not running a 486 it's gonna be fine now the machine just powered itself off automatically I've touched nothing I'm not panicking because I know this is what it's supposed to do again hands off leave it alone it's gonna start itself up in just a moment here and you probably like having a moment of oh but see look came back now some systems may reboot once or twice or three times so you just did it again that's fine leave it alone it's normal for your system to do that somebody else's system may only reboot once it pens on the motherboard the manufacturer and how they implemented by some biases are more complicated than others that completes the process now a lot of times you'll get a window that pops up once it's done booting it'll say congratulations your BIOS update was successful or not successful not all manufacturers do that I'm kind of being patient here just to see if that pops up but I am I'm not saying it so the way I can check is I'll go back to cpu-z again which is right up here and we'll just check the motherboard BIOS version now now without running CPU CPU ID comm is where you get CPU Z without running that I could manually hold the Delete key down and go look in the BIOS to find the version I just think this is faster and easier so we'll click on the mainboard tab and we should see version 1.3 instead of 1.2 and you can see the date is much closer to today than the previous one was which is how we know it's newer it's a bigger number it's a more recent date it's that easy later than just that easy so this was all done live unscripted I never know what's gonna happen but you can see with the confidence that I have in the number of times I have done this over the last nearly 30 years the big deal that people make about on the Internet is hardly justified based on what you've seen with your own eyes right now it's really just that simple so I will address any questions folks have here in the chat room and then we're gonna wrap this up for today so let me go ahead and shut this down we're done with this machine so we'll close this out and we will choose shut down and go ahead and put your question in the chat I'll do my best to answer it you'll see how fast this even shuts down it's looks like click love it love it love it love it and then I'll go back to being fullscreen myself I really need to make a hotkey for that I'm sure OBS will let me do that Benten strout's contributed $5 he says have a happy new year seen a very interesting article in Forbes today about the last Windows 10 update in November and there's always something to write about remember journalists have to have something to write about that's how they earn their living so just because there's an article about Windows 10 doesn't mean that's anything special that's just another day in the publishing business and tomorrow that guy that journalist is gonna have to think of something else to write about so keep that in mind I don't even know what the articles about I don't care because there's nothing major happening with Windows 10 with the previous update that again if I was a journalist that had to write about something I guess it's something to talk about but it's not really critical or important in my opinion hello to all my friends in blue in the chat I'm sorry I haven't acknowledged you guys earlier we got shanking and at Hewitt's min Steve Larkin Trotman Charlie Chan Mitchell Morrison joins us I know that guy Patrick Manny Sheeran idle air there's a lads tip edge Chris chase Shayne King Scott Hallinan and Carl Wilson Vern Mahoney and who else we have in here we've got Oh Billy Xue contributed seven Australian dollars he's seven he says awesome tutorial hey Thank You Billy trying to keep things simple keep it simple Jason Bomb and Randy ruff welcome in guys John Craig of course welcome into Jon and DJ matrix Jim eNOS contributed five bucks he says Carrie can you use this Windows 10 media to reinstall windows 10 without losing any apps or data so you don't have to do that if you want to fix your windows 10 this is the old-school way doing this if you have Windows 10 now and you're having any problems with it Windows 10 has its own tools built into it that you don't need this the only time you would need this is if your Windows 10 won't start like your system won't start but if it starts then you can use your own repair tools Windows Windows 10 zone repair tools to fix it I'll show you that this is only if your windows won't start so either you don't have window or the windows 10 you have won't get to the desktop for some reason then you would boot to this that's why we're making it you could also as I mentioned use this to upgrade windows 7 or 8 to the current version of Windows 10 and it will keep all of your apps and all of your data you won't lose anything unless something is not compatible and it will tell you that before it begins and then you can decide I don't want to proceed also if you install Windows 10 has an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8 and you decide you don't like it you have 30 days to rewind it and put it back the way it was I never do that I would make an Acronis image or a clone of my drive with Windows 7 or 8 just prior to installing Windows 10 so rather than uninstalling Windows 10 I could restore my image much much faster without any doubt of anything being screwed up because sometimes rarely but it happens it fails so as long as you have your backup which you should always have anyway but make that backup just prior and use that as your safety net and then forget 30 days now you've got as long as you keep the backup to roll back to it anytime you want to so this is something you know what you do to protect yourself is up to you well let's say let's say we had a problem we Windows 10 but Windows 10 still boots right so let's fire this back up one more time and let's say Windows 10 has got some kind of weird I don't know issue that is we think maybe if we reinstall windows 10 on top of itself it'll fix it well we don't need this to do that everything to do that is already part of Windows 10 this is how the operating system has evolved over time this is not Windows XP this is not Windows 7 this is not Windows 8 this is Windows 10 folks this works differently and a lot of the problems that we've had over the last 25 years with Windows have been resolved or addressed not all of them but many of them and one of them was this this idea that you had to reinstall very rarely does a reinstall ever fix a windows problem these days with Windows 10 it's very very rare furthermore motherboard reliability power supply reliable everything is far more reliable today than it was 10 15 20 years ago so the number of repairs I'm having to do are much much less but what I'm having to do more is attack the configuration side of things migrating data or addressing printers that don't work computers won't get on the network those kind of problems will always exist and they'll always be a job for an IT tech and yes I still get bad power supplies and I still get bad motherboards but it doesn't happen near as often as it used to and there's a number of reasons for that that I'm not going to get into because I am going to show you now how to get Windows to fix itself if you go to the settings option here and go back to update and security and go back to recovery and then you can choose to reset this PC that's the option I was ignoring because I wasn't my intent to cover this I was just gonna show you how to make a Windows 10 media but what the hell let's just show you everything put it all out there so it says if your PC isn't running well resetting it may help this lets you choose to keep your personal files or remove them and then reinstall windows it gets started it says what do you want to do do you want to keep your files that's gonna remove your programs but it'll keep your files and do a fresh clean install of Windows so when it's done you'll have to put word back on or Excel or whatever applications you use you'll have to put those you'll have to reinstall those afterwards but all the data that you created with those apps all your photos all your music all your Excel spreadsheets whatever that's gonna be left alone and that's the thing see all that stuff can't be replaced you can always reinstall an app even if you don't have it even if you have to repurchase it you cannot repurchase your data so ideally you're always gonna have a backup and this is just saying I really don't want to restore my backup this will be easier or is your computer so screwed up and you're so convinced you have a virus that can't be removed that you just want to remove everything and start over as though the computer was brand again back to day one wipe it completely clean and then install Windows 10 as though it was a brand-new build just completely erase everything all your data all your files all your apps those are your two options here you're either gonna have to reinstall your apps or you're gonna have to reinstall your apps the only question is do you want to keep your data and again if you have a backup which you should you can choose accordingly so let's say I want to keep my files and it says I'm getting things ready this won't take long now don't worry it's actually I think it's going to confirm with us before it proceeds and it does it says we want to make sure you understand what you're about to do here it says I'm ready to reset this PC what we're gonna do is put all the changes back to their defaults that means all those little messing about in the registry that you played with that all gets put back to normal again moving your Documents subdirectory to a different drive or a different default location all of that is going to be put back the way it was intended to be from the engineers who wrote this software it's going to keep your personal files and it's going to remove all your apps and programs and it will list the apps and programs that's going to remove it's going to tell you ahead of time when you do this these things are going to be gone so these are the things that I added the intel SSD toolbox the intel nvme driver and Microsoft onedrive which I you know goodbye I don't care about that I didn't put that on that came through a Windows Update I'm guessing and then if you're ok with that hit the reset button if you're not ok with that hit cancel in the same way if we do the other option which is to remove everything it'll say getting things ready and it says current settings are just removed your files this is quicker but less secure you can click change settings and you can see that it's going to and with this option it's going to clean your drive and that means if you ever have to send the drive in for data recovery it may not be possible so this is like like a Sakura race apparently I didn't even know that was going to come up but anyway you can turn that on or off and then you click confirm and and that will take you through the full and complete wipe with a clean fresh install of Windows 10 as though the computer you just brought it home from the store or you just built it for the very first time all history of any you sonic will be erased all your data all your programs likewise you could do that from creating the tool and booting from it you could erase the partitions on the drive and then start over again if you want to so it with a computer there's always multiple ways to accomplish the same task but that just seems like you're going out of your way and using a flash drive and creating something when all you have to do is click a few buttons within Windows 10 if your Windows 10 won't start then you won't have a choice but to boot off of a either a recovery or or a bootable media to do repairs or installation media and you'll see Windows has its own backup tools too I mean when you get in here everything you don't need to buy a Cronus you can use Windows backup the problem with windows backup is it does doesn't have any options for you - like a Cronus does there's not any compression algorithms or encryption you just sort of run it and it's free and it's basic but it's better than nothing and what else am I forgetting here I think that's everything there's more Recovery Options learn how to start fresh with a clean installation of Windows we click on that way to do that all right we'll let it do it fresh start start fresh with a clean and up-to-date installation of Windows start fresh well it's the same thing this will keep your personal files and some window settings and remove most of your apps including Microsoft Office third party antivirus will be removed and desktop apps that came pre-installed on your pre-built computer those are going to get removed too as well if you click learn more it'll take you to this web link that will explain all of this you can go through and read that if you'd like and again if we click get started and click yes it says this will remove all apps and programs except those that come standard with windows like Microsoft Paint stuff like that your device will be updated to the latest version of Windows and this could take twenty minutes or longer depending on your device and we can click Next and it says getting things ready this won't take long now it's warning you this is your last attempt to back out of this if this is not what you want to do that's why I went ahead and clicked this bar because I don't want to redo this although it's a fresh clean install and I can do it again I don't want to and it says I just want to remind you these other things we're taking off and now you can hit cancel or next which should in my opinion this should be continued not next but continue that's fine where you hit cancel and you just follow the screens all the way through and bada-boom bada-bing you're done save yourself paying a technician or Geek Squad to do that when you can do it yourself Jim Innes thank you for the question and the contribution to the channel I want to remind you that the Internet is a great place to answer any questions you have if I'm not around or if I if you're not getting my attention in the chatroom type your question into Google or even into YouTube search there are other fantastic YouTube content creators out there that will be that have videos that demonstrate how to go about removing certain kinds of viruses without reinstalling or different ways of reinstalling theirs like I say at least three different ways off the top of my head to make a flash drive bootable for Windows 10 installations and there's probably more than that that I'm not aware of if I actually wanted to know and I searched it I'd probably find a few other ways to do it so if you find a video that tells you how to do it it doesn't look right or doesn't feel right or it's not clear to you go back to your search results and click on the next one and repeat until you find one that makes sense and try it and see how it works and see where that leads you anytime I do any work on a computer that's a customer's computer always make sure you have a backup or work off of a temporary hard drive drives are so cheap these days you'll see often times when I'm working on a client's computer like that white and black computer I had or the corsair 780 t the big case i disconnected all of the hard drives that were that belonged to the customer and i took a fresh clean hard drive or one that's what we call a scratch drive one that i can just use for experimenting plug that in I loaded Windows 10 fresh and clean on it and then I'm able to diagnose forward from that and knowing that there's no software related issues that the customer may have with some programs they've installed or viruses they might have so I've removed the customer software out of the equation and at the same time I'm not messing about with any of the customer software and risking potentially losing it if I was going to do that and then I would make a backup with the Kronus and put that onto one of my flash drives like I've got a couple of these 256 gig flash drives if the customer strives bigger than that I've got these homemade MDOT 2 SATA USB drives this one's 500 gigs if it's bigger than that these go up to 2 terabytes in size by the way so I could just buy a $200 or 2 terabyte em to drive stick it in there m2 santé I mean if the customers customers got more than 2 terabytes of data then I'd have to go to a mechanical Drive and it would take a lot of time to back it up however without that backup you're walking a tightrope with no net so if I got to let it run overnight then then that repairs gonna wait until that backup is done and always verify your backups it's critical that you verify on a Cronus or in any software that after your backup is made there's usually a button that says verify or test my backup always check that it's going to add a few minutes to how much time it takes it's worth it Shayne King says hey mate a belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Thank You Shane back atcha my friend Glyn Davies says I can never shake my concerns about updating a BIOS on a PC that has no problems yeah well let's that's wine there's nothing wrong with that see the thing is I don't have to support you you're not gonna call me when you have a computer problem it might be 8 o'clock in the morning on Monday that might be a great way to start my week and the problem is resolved by updating your BIOS let's just say so whether or not you choose to update your BIOS it has no effect on me and if you don't want to do it then please don't do it I do it because I'm trying to stay in business and I want my customers to have the best experience possible so I have different motivations than you do I'm not telling you what to do please don't think I'm telling you what to do I'm explaining what I do and why I do it and if that doesn't sit well with you then you know with the information and I offer a lot of information take what you want leave the rest it's all good Philip Drake contributed $2 he says hey Keri and doggie say Thank You Philip what cooler is in this case this is the silverstone PF 240 liquid cooler this is Silverstone's first introduction to liquid cooling it's an all-in-one cooler and it's got really cool LED fans on it they need better installation instructions so they sent me another one of these this is available in both 140 240 and 360 size 240 is the most common size that's the size most people buy and the question to make sure your case can accommodate 240 millimeter radiator or 360 or 140 whatever size you buy the bigger the radiator the better it cools the more expensive is and of course the bigger the case you're gonna need to put it in so it's a fantastic cooler I'm very very happy with it and you'll see another video with this cooler being installed in another machine in fact it's the coldest cooler I've ever seen I've never seen a CPU run as cold as the CPU was running in this motherboard with this cooler and I can't get over how pretty it is it's just a very even the ram is changing color in the same sequence I didn't even realize that the other day but if you watch how this turns this turns like uh like right now it's blue and this is matching it exactly and then the RAM is also matching it but I can't quite figure out if it's moving this way or this way on the RAM but I can see the same colors on the RAM appearing in sequence with the same colors on them that's this I didn't do that on purpose it just so happens that it speaks the RGB language that this motherboard is communicating with I guess for lack of a more technical term I just thought it was random but it appears to be in sequence with everything else see does that turned purple that turned purple that's green that's green that's that's blue that's blue that's purple again that's purple up in the watch that corner there and how it lines up with that cooler right there in fact you probably can't see it very well because the brightness is too high let me get this a little closer and then let me bring the gain down on the video and then you should be able to see those colors pop a lot yeah I didn't even realize that Ram was sequencing with everything else that's pretty cool because I've not installed any software and you can control the RGB through software with asrock software or you can go into the BIOS with some preset modes and just change it in the BIOS you can make it blink or stay static or turn off or breathe or yeah so it's fading from one color to the other you could have it you know bluntly change colors which I like it fading into different colors I think that's cool stupid but it's like many stupid things that's cool do you recommend changing a legacy BIOS to UEFI on a gigabyte motherboard if you're gonna run Windows 7 8 or 10 on it yes but motherboard that's a z77 chipsets pretty old because we've had since d7 we've had z87 z97 z170 SZ 270 z3 70c 390 so there's your six generations behind which puts you at a system that's probably about 12 years old maybe it's a little older than that and sometimes it's just time for the recycling heap on those or put them into Linux and give them an easier life so at this point it's really up to you if if you want to go to UEFI to see if you can get a little bit more life out of it if you've been running it for the last 12 years without it I don't think you're gonna see much of an improvement personally but that's up to you certain things that you're not gonna be able to do until you update the UEFI if I have to explain what those things are to you that you don't need it regardless of how many RAM modules you have it doesn't matter if you have one or two that has nothing to do with 32-bit versus 64-bit there's some false information in the chat room from one of my moderators that is not how Ram works it's a mathematical issue 32-bit is 2 to the power of 2 32 times which gets you to a mathematical limitation of over 4 million that's your four gigabit limitation it's called math with 64 bit you can go 2 to the power of 64 so 2 times 2 times 2 times 2 times 2 64 times and that's your new Ram limit whether it's one stick or a hundred sticks is irrelevant of RAM and that's why it has nothing to do with Linux or Apple if they're 32-bit it's again 2 to the power of 32 do the math tell me what number you get Leftwich what's to know in your experience as a Cronus given any problems with creating an image onto an MDOT to nvme SSD from a SATA SSD no I've had no problems creating images on USB Thunderbolt internal SATA drives external SATA drives drive bays drive docks never had an issue that's again why you always want to verify your backup after it's made Raphael says thank you for sharing your knowledge with us right on Raphael that guy gets it thank you when when windows 11 come out there is no such thing as windows 11 it will never come out I've already got a video on that so let me show you how you can use my video let me show you how to use YouTube it's really really cool and you have there are questions you have that I have answered a thousand times so now let's just use this opportunity to show you if we go back to this computer behind me and we bring up YouTube which I have right here and then we're gonna go to we'll just go to youtube up here why oh you too you be calm alright so now we're in YouTube and I want to know exactly what you typed when will windows 11 come out and look at the very first link that comes up the very first link you see it says Carrie Holzman right here if we click on that you'll see that there is a quick tip video that is and we got to watch the ad here what's if you skip the ad I don't get paid so I'm not gonna get paid now if we look we give it a thumbs up see that's a thumbs up people keep asking about thumbs up I gotta create an account so here I talk answer that question and it's all of two minutes long it's that easy to get most of your questions answered if you want answers to questions you don't know you have then you can click right on my name under the video right there click click on Carrie holzman and then click on videos now you can look based on date everything from quick tips viewers submitted videos there's an entire library of over 900 videos in here that go all the way back to 2012 if you want to watch one of my original build videos you could say you could go up here in search Karrie Holzman build 2012 well you're here how to build a computer 2012 version two hours long Here I am 17 years ago you can scroll through see if there's a certain part you want to see like oh there's the close up he was talking about all those front panel switches a power switch reset switch look how good I did that you know and if you don't want to wash it a little window you just go down here to the corner and you can go full screen by hitting this little bracket right here and now it goes full screen and if this little ad gets in your way click the little X to get rid of it and you can see down here it's like there's your hard drive LED your power switch see where it says PW that's representing this top red square re s is the green square below it it's signifying each two pins represents the top row and then the bottom row and that goes back 17 years I've been doing this far longer than that but but on YouTube I think that's one of my earliest videos if you're just looking for something to do furthermore if you just want the quick videos you don't want to sit around for for 2 or 3 hours of my videos go to Carrie Holzman quick tips and then you'll find there's a quick tip channel here's how to update your BIOS and you'll see that all these are coming from cari Holzman if you look down here so these are all off the main channel but if we go up here and say I don't know let's try computer quick tips I have a separate channel right here called computer quick tips that you can subscribe to and again if you if you scroll down to computer quick tips you'll see it's got far less subscribers right because I've got over 275 thousand subscribers as of today in January 2019 we need more subscribers here so if you guys aren't subscribed to this please click on the link and you can go through all of these videos and we have a lot of videos here right up here click up here where it says videos and you can go through all of these quick tips videos most of which are just a few minutes long and there's a lot in there common questions that I get every day or regularly anyway about you know should I leave my computer on or should I shut it off how do you use the Samsung magician software how can i upgrade from Windows 7 to 10 for free do we salvage old parts can you build your own flash drive what's it in between a solid-state drive versus a hard drive what about piracy in Windows 10 what about free security solutions free antivirus what about differences in thermal compound do they matter what about parts for gaming computers or how do you make an image or what's an image versus a clone what's the difference what's a good laptop to buy or what are chipset drivers and what about raid or what about Ram what about power supplies or what about optimizing Windows 10 or how do you test the RAM and how do you backup a computer and what's a solid-state hard drive it what about shopping on eBay is that a good idea so all of that stuff goes on and on it's all great in my opinion fantastic content that many of you are missing out on and it's not the two hour-long marathons that I do this has all been condensed down my sister does the editing she's got to sit there and listen to all listen to everything I say to Whittle out 99% of it to go there he said something useful and then she edits that out puts an intro and an outro on it and then she uploads it both to my main channel and to the computer quick tips channel now the computer quick tips channel is her baby and we want to see that grow and become its own living self-sustaining beast so you guys if you're interested in the quick tips to just get to the gist of it please please please subscribe to it share it with your friends and social media and let's get that channel to grow and that way we've got a little something for everybody between my regular stuff as well as the quick tips on top of that there's still the Subaru repair videos myself and Mike he is the Subaru guru he and I will work together to show you how to completely rebuild a Subaru engine in the same way that I show you guys how to build a computer every bolt every wire is if you've never done it before there's Subaru Mike right there there's all the Pistons there's the the the block the engine block and we're gonna cover every bolt every wire if you've never done it before you can follow along with us and you will have in this case a short block so a short block means he's not putting the heads on it and I'm doing all the filming in the editing and mike is the guru mike is the knowledgeable guy here he's been doing that for many many years and mike is the reason I now drive a Subaru I still have the Mustang but I also have a Subaru Forester and ever since mike worked on it he bought it used had a bad motor it somebody ran it out of water froze the motor up mike fixed it sold it to me and it's been running gangbusters I have not even had to put tires on it nothing and it's been over a year ago whereas my Chevy Blazer and my Hyundai Veloster were going into a shop about every 45 days so anyway I'm real happy to own a Subaru and I'm even happier to know that I got a guy I can trust who knows what he's doing that gets the job done quickly he gets it done right and he's willing to share his knowledge with the world and if you're curious what are carries most popular videos you can go up here you can go back to YouTube you can type in Carey holzman right look for a video whoops I guess I didn't do that right we'll type in Carey Holzmann we can click on the main channel again down here it says home videos playlists community channel we'd click on videos and you can go over here and say I want to sort this by the most popular videos right the MUNs that are most watched the most popular and here you'll see I've got just a couple of videos that have reached over a million views I've got the how to repair a dead computer with 2.1 million views but that's you know how many years ago I've got what's the difference we need MDOT to SATA vs NV me drive that's at 1.7 million views my scamming the scammers video which is hilarious if you've never seen it's at 1.2 million views and guess what the next one that's gonna hit a million views is gonna be we're not quite there yet but that video I just showed you of Subaru Mike showing how to go bolt by bolt wire for wire on how to reassemble a short blocks Li Bru EJ 2.5 motor is going to hit a million views next that's pretty freakin cool and so you can get an idea of what other people are watching one of the videos I'm most proud of is this computer repair problem right down here it says right here a computer problem other text could not fix when I made this video and released it it didn't really perform any differently than any other videos and about a year later the owner of that computer contacted me and and was checking up on me and whatever and I remembered that we had this great video that needed to be edited and my sister just recently jumped on board to help me with video editing and I called her while I was in the car and I said can you download that video and edit it and bring it down to a more a reasonable time and as soon as she did that and released it with a really nice thumbnail it jumped to half a million views and then it just kind of pitted out but if you haven't seen it check it out it's a very valuable lesson to learn about computer repair in there and I'm very very proud of that one and I got real lucky with it too I'll admit I got lucky but the fact of the matter is there's no reason that video shouldn't have seventeen million views and then some we're just not reaching the people that you know people just aren't finding it so anyway that's how you use YouTube that's how you can go through my video library if I'm not live if you're jonesing for a little carry in your life there's probably a lot of videos I've made that would interest you and you're just not aware how to find them that's the way you do it and this will scroll on and on and on this'll just keep going I really hear I'm making popcorn here I'm showing a professional data recovery company and how they do their work and of course this is still sorted in order of popularity so everything from car repair there's some cooking videos there's there's me and in Oregon I just created an intro well I was gonna make me watch the ad no it's not there we go sometimes I go on vacation somewhere and I take a shot with the camera for a future intro like I didn't know what video I was going to attach it to I just said I said I had the camera to my wife I'm like here hold the camera let me make an intro and then and I'm just a generic you know hey I'm Kerry Holzman and I'm here in Oregon and welcome to my latest video and then the titles roll you know I had no idea what video I was gonna make I just wanted to do something different and so you'll see that from time to time on my channel as well you can see the all the different in exotic places I visit once every three years when I leave the house alright we can close that out so there I've been meaning to talk about that for a long time I'm glad I got that off my chest I feel better now David Griswolds contributed $10 he says hello Kerry loved the Saturday livestream I work all week and this is the only time I can watch live right on David I'm glad I had this opportunity you'll see L in the chatroom L is my sister she's the one doing the editing and making all these really cool creative thumbnails thanks Jimmy thanks for knocking my microphone down boy look at this look I'm getting right now what is your deal boy what do you want hmm you just okay there's videos of the dogs walking and there's just dog videos on there too just for people who enjoy the serenity and Zen of watching a dog lay out in the yard with the wind blowing through its fur I got your face no I got your face it's mine now it's my face you're so sad look at your eyes so you just shook my hand off and then put your head underneath it though Blaine's in jail I hear Blaine's I guess of Blaine's and yell good boy good boy okay enough of my I'm gonna name the dogs click and bait that's what I think I should do this one is click it look like okay final questions or I'm gonna wrap it up we're about an hour and a half into this and I have to go David says he's saying it's cookie time that's the only words he knows so yeah so L is in the chat room L is my sister if you guys want to compliment her or encourage her auden edits and thumbnails you could speak read to her right now in that chat room some people have asked me Carrie how do I get into your chat room when you watch my videos when they are actually live there is a chat room right there if you're not seeing the chat room then you're not watching the video live after the videos are made live YouTube processes them and then makes them available like any other video so if you're watching a video that's titled live okay in the beginning of the video I say the day I say hi I'm Carrie oldsman today is and one of the reasons I do that is to help people determine if they're watching live or not but ultimately ultimately if you're not seeing the chat room over there then you're not watching a live video it's something that may have been recorded live earlier that same day if it happens to be the same like I'm saying today's in January for 2020 but right now it's 355 in the afternoon and now you're watching this at let's say 10:00 p.m. my time six hours from now I'm not live anymore you're watching something I recorded earlier in the day and you will see the chatroom replay but you will not be able to participate in it and that's the only secret there is to catching me live now I'm hoping this year will be the year that I hopefully will have a studio and I will have regular working hours so you will know exactly what time I will be live at least two days a week I haven't figured out what the schedule will be but there will be a schedule and so you won't have to guess right now because I'm doing so many different things I'm trying to balance everything and triage and by triage I have to prioritize what needs my attention right now and when can I make a live video and I have to balance all that out and that's why they're sort of come and go with you know one week I might do a video a day every day another week I could have a cold or I can have a situation with a client that takes up my time that's priority and I don't have time to come back and film after that there's lots of reasons why videos don't get made currently and again in 2020 I'm hoping to address that in one shape in one way shape or form so we remove the confusion you know so as I'm watching a live video well I don't change the title it was live so I apologize that YouTube makes that so confusing Benj trout's contributed five dollars he says Carey I'm glad that you correct me on things I was misinformed about I am appreciative of your Corrections Thank You Ben yeah what I just don't like when people spout off things as facts that are not facts and they're not experts it's okay to ask it's okay to preface what you say with it's my understanding that you know and then of course to follow it but when you don't preface it with that then it comes off as though you're an expert and you're telling somebody else who potentially knows less than you do and so they look up to you and they're believing you and it's dangerous no matter how smart you think I am there's guys a lot smarter than me that I look up to and there's times when I misspeak or I confuse my facts because it's live and it's unscripted and I just hate it when I do that but I'm you know I'm my own worst critic because I'm like oh I got a I got to fix that I'm doing the very thing I tell other people not to do sometimes because I work off script so I always advise all of my viewers to verify all information whether it's coming from me or coming from anybody find another source of that information and ideally find an official source somebody says Microsoft's coming out with the Windows 11 don't point me to a video on YouTube that's fake point me to a Microsoft website with the product release you know with the with the the PR release the the public relations company that's gonna be out there marketing the crap out of that also because of some generous contributions that have come in I made what I will call a frivolous purchase what one of the things I want to do this year is I want to start making videos for a content that it seems you guys want to see even though it doesn't make any sense to me for example I just ordered an AMD 39 50 X processor 750 dollars plus sales tax I think a thing was like eight hundred and twenty eight hundred and thirty dollars for a chip and I need to pick a an x5 70 board if you have a good x5 70 board you can recommend with nice RGB please let me know in the comments section below the video and I will consider it I want a nice good x5 70 board this is going to go into a pure bass 600 windowed case from be quiet I don't know what I'll do for a power supply yet but I'll use that trident royals ii crystal lit up ram and I'll throw it up you know like a samsung 970 Pro Plus and or Evo plus in it and it's just ridiculous stupid overkill to the gills and then I will probably offer it to sale to somebody who wants to buy it for the cost of parts and I know that that video will get more views than a practical video that would you would actually consider buying I don't understand why this works this way I don't know why a review on a Ferrari that you can never own and you can never afford and that you will never buy will get more views than a review on a Chevy Cruze that is affordable and that you know would actually benefit you to have the information to consider when purchasing a car the Chevy Cruze video which is practical will get that many views and the Ferrari video will get that many so in that vein I will be building the xenos g3 with the Intel Core i 999 hundred KS with the Trident Z royal Ram I will fill every dim suck it up with it so stupid oh and on that AMD 3950 we're gonna use the same cooler right here we're gonna use the the silverstone PF 240 cooler and i'm also going to make a how to install the south the Silverstone PF 240 rj RGB liquid cooler which is all-in-one it's all sealed you don't have to do it and I'm gonna talk to well I've already spoken to the gentlemen I mentioned who does custom mods like extreme customized stuff well beyond like he does what I do as far as building computers and he takes it a whole nother level by fabricating 3d printing and modifying cases to fit certain themes and let's just say he and I are about the same age he and I grew up with arcade machines and it would be kind of cool for him to dig down deep into his creative side and build something that I can use is my new streamer that has a 1980s arcade theme the only question is as if I can afford it so he and I are going to talk more about that next and then I will have him film the fabrication maybe we can run it in time-lapse you know so it's not a how-to video it'll just be something to watch and I suspect that's gonna generate a ton of views so instead of doing everything educational that I think is beneficial and helpful and practical where I get this many views I'll have a video of a singing cat and I'll get a million views I don't know I'll still continue to do the same videos I've always done but I'm going to put more focus and effort on over the top overkill ridiculous builds at least two or three times a year if I can afford it and then I will probably offer those builds for sale at cost in order to recover the cost of what it's gonna do and we'll see what sort of view numbers and new subscribers I get I really don't want to pander but at the same time if that's what I have to do if that's what the people want let's do it what do you guys think of that fest Elvises paint the case with art no no he's he's he's gonna completely customize the case they'll be sawing and drilling and gluing and 3d printing and modifying and it won't even if you look at some of his videos which which I showed you in a previous I'll show you again here let me show you the kind of work this guy does I'm sure many of you have seen this before but we probably have some new viewers in here where is it Carrie here they're connect to server' No maybe I deleted it already Wade looks like I deleted it but if you go on YouTube when you look up Metro Exodus here I can put a link in the chat room for you guys and you can watch the video rather than me rebroadcast it anyway that would be better for him to get the the view numbers we go to YouTube and then we'll do Metro Metro I guess that's not enough a bill to a computer build there it is so I'll copy that link and metro so that's the link to the well had my back I couldn't see what I was typing but Metro Exodus the fork a custom build this is the kind of work this guy is capable of doing he's incredible and his name is Bill Owen and Bill is incredibly talented and I would very much like to work with him on something sometime this year I just hope I can afford him that's my only concern I don't know how many hours he has to spend and what he's going to charge and I don't want to rip him off I don't want him to do something for nothing I you know I insist on paying him so we just have to figure that part out him Irving has just contributed five euro he said this is for ell for her great work on quick tips thanks al that's nice of you thank you Irving Irving posted some shared his computer set up on my Facebook page he's got a real nice set up he's curving watches us from Marseille in France said hey Syd we have a worldwide audience here hits and cough has contributed $4.99 he goes here's for the 3950 bill yeah it's 39 50x I haven't picked the motherboard so pretty much I know what case I'm gonna use power supply doesn't really matter I'll find something for that that's no big deal whether or not we choose to throw a graphics card I mean I'll have to put a graphics card in it because it it'll be weird if I don't so we'll put like a nice high-end graphics card in it the g.skill royal Rick it's gonna be probably somewhere in the ballpark of $3,000 I'm gonna guess I'm not exactly sure but I'm gonna guess right in the $3,000 range and then when it's built and it's pretty and all the cable management is done I have no use for it so I will offer it for to any viewers in the United States and I'll ship it to you I won't even charge for the shipping I just need to get it out and I need to recover the investment so I can reinvest into the next thing so I think I'm gonna try that and see if that works Glyn Davies contributed ten Australian dollars he says here's something to go towards your new arcade machine or your yacht your choice just one yacht Jason Baum has contributed $4.99 he says I'd like to see a test the new gen for envy me speed since you're using X 570 great point Jason and I consider that done that is my intention as well I completely forgot about that I will test the new I will get a you know I know Corsair has a nvme solid-state drive that's at the PCI 4 spec I know we're very early on it and it's not performing as well as it will perform a year from now the hardware that's coming out right now is first-generation and so as SSD manufacturers evolved that technology over the next well this year I think we're gonna see significant increases in speed I'm not suggesting anybody should go get PCIe 4.0 solid-state drives at this point because you will probably spend the same amount of money 12 months from now for the same capacity and go at least a third faster than what they're doing today just so you know but we'll do it because it's the pinnacle of what we can do today and that is what gets views David Kayden contributed $10 he says Carey I use a 2 terabyte Barracuda for game storage would you recommend something like a Western Digital gold or something enterprise would be good for game storage as they are good amounts of storage for games you know it's been really hard for me to say I really have stepped away from mechanical drives I will tell you one of the biggest mistakes I made was putting regular drives in tune as devices there are Nazz specific drives the Seagate iron wolf and Western Digital Red Line what ends up happening I guess when you put a bunch of drives next to each other is their vibration that they create apparently creates other problems for surrounding drives and so these NAS drives they're not just an excuse to mark the price of the drive up they generally have a better warranty and they're designed to be next to other drives that are vibrating so over a long course of time you won't have the problems that end up happening with the desktop drives so I've experienced desktop drives that work for a couple of years in turn as and and they all start to fail and maybe that's why that's happening I don't know but since I went with my son ology I've got a to drive array just you would put it in a RAID one so one drive mirrors the other with two twelve terabyte drives that thing has been flawless what's it been two years now not a hiccup not an issue everything is perfect perfect perfect perfect I can't recommend that enough when it comes to game storage desktop storage really look at the warranty on the drive the better the warranty on the drive is the better the drive is there's a reason why manufacturers have bigger warranties on some drives and lesser warranties another and it's telling you what that reliability is so consider that and then read reviews and pick what's the size at the budget with the warranty and the speed that suits your needs and thank you David for contributing to the channel I wish I could I wish I knew you well enough and I wish I understood what your needs were and what your hardware was that I could specifically give you a make and model but the best I can do is show you how to do that research yourself and and they're just games anyway so if the drive dies so what can I just reinstall the game and replace the drive Brendan Mooney create contributed to pounds I'm not sure if I covered that contribution and that I see any others oh and folks in the chat room if you have answer stating these questions please shout them out by all means when somebody's asking a question and you know an answer or you want to offer an answer please PLEASE offer it David Martinez says Kari I just bought a solid state drive and updated my dad's PC to Windows 10 and it was easy of course it's easy that's what I'm trying to sort of trying to say man this stuff is super easy there's no reason to be intimidated for it there's no reason to pay somebody like me to do it unless you're just really busy and don't have time and you trust me which is often the reason why people ask me to build computers it's not that they don't feel they can do it they just want me to do it because they're busy and they trust the quality of my work and that's very flattering to me but absolutely if you have the time and you're only reason you're not doing it is because you're afraid you can't believe me you can and there are lots of people that can help you if you have issues I see Luke greenie as says harmonic vibrations can be devastating yeah I guess it has something to do with that look I don't know I'm not a I don't know about hard drives the way I used to might focus the last couple of years has been on solid-state drives and if I get a 12 terabytes solid-state drive in mine as you know damn well I'll do it but that day is not here yet so I do realize they're available for like the big big solid-state drives that are the price of a car when they're affordable for the consumer loved upgrade one but in the meantime I Seagate iron wolf 12 terabyte drives are flawless absolute Ollis and what a big difference from like a Seagate Barracuda 4 terabyte or the only had the I had for 3 terabyte drives and a Seagate NAS and the Seagate NAS is crap compared to Synology and those every single one of those 3 terabyte drives died I think in the first year and then two of them dried it at the same time which which is why Brian over at $300 data recovery help me get my data back off of one of them that wasn't critical it was one of those things like if I could get it back I'd like it but I'm not gonna pay any money to do it and I was seeing Brian anyway and I swear it took Brian three minutes because he's got you know he's got this hardware that's fifteen thousand dollars combined with some software that's probably worth $2,000 and he plugs the drive in and it does all the work for you it's like I was this is here's all your directories what do you want back he's like there it is Carrie and I just brought a little Drive and I was like oh I wish I'd have brought a bigger capacity Drive I'd take it all just to take it but I didn't know that I didn't need it I just have all the old computer America shows and I just wanted to save those I don't know why I'll probably never listen to him again but that's that was what was on there and they weren't really important but they're part of my history and I'd like to keep it and they're too big or they were too big to put up into the cloud affordably nowadays it probably could put it up there but again it's it's nothing I'm probably ever gonna go back and listen to but it is a part of my history Carrie what do you use for backups I use I'll show you what I primarily use I have a couple of different things it depends what I'm backing up so on mine as I don't put anything important on mine s cuz I don't back up mine as it's just a raid one and if I get ransomware and it infects it or if somebody burn burgles my house and steals it or any of that stuff you know data data goes bye-bye so I have a couple of different ways I backup for backing up here for local backups I like to use a little laptop drives I've got bunches and bunches of these they're very cheap you can get you know four terabyte five terabyte two and a half inch drives they run off USB power there's no separate power cord I've had these for years it's very rare I ever see wouldn't go bad and I don't leave them plugged in I plug him in make my backup and I unplug them that's why they last so long these are all one terabyte oh this one's a 2 terabyte I put a little label on it because they all look alike and I will do System Images to these but I am starting to phase these out and instead I'm moving to solid-state drives 2 terabyte solid-state drives are very affordable now you cost you about Oh 200 bucks which is still three times more than one of these two terabyte drives but it's a lot faster and a lot more I'd say a lot more reliable but I'm not having any reliability issues so I've got here's uh here's a couple of actual backup drives of mine that I'm currently using so on the streaming computer I just backed this up yesterday and the reason I'm using solid state is they're very fast so I'm backing up a ton of data and this thing gets super super hot so this is the say brint USB enclosure for MDOT to SATA drives and I've got a two terabyte SATA probably like a Western Digital blue in there or something and then I've got one of these this is a samsung t5 and these are little spendy so we only have one and you plug that into USB and you'll see the size difference here right and that this is what I back up my desktop on this is what I backup the streamer on and these are just kept in the house now I also have an Acronis cloud account and then I will back up to the cloud on my desktop and the streamer so if anything happens at the house I have a secure in the cloud encrypted backup that I can fall back on it'll just take me longer to restore and then of course I've got my little USB flash drive so anything that's like let's say my OBS configuration that's about 13 Meg's to download that I can put that on a flash drive I'll put it over under the nads so it's universally available to me around my network if I want to you know in a spur-of-the-moment use a different computer to stream I can I don't have to reconfigure OBS all over again and then I've got um where is it when companies send me these products like the haricots as I mentioned earlier sent me this this is an nvme solid-state drive that's 512 gigs I I will use this for some kind of backup somewhere these are again a little spendy they're very very fast and if I'm gonna move 500 gigs this is what I want to move it to because it'll go five times faster than those hard drives those little hard drives I was holding the Seagate passport in western digital elements there six of one half dozen of the other they both cost about the same same warranty and they perform about the same those only move data through the USB port at around 20 megabytes a second which is pathetic I'm moving data back and forth to mine as at 110 megabytes a second and if I'm using one of these locally into a USB 3.1 or 3.2 port I should be able to move data according to this at 940 megabytes a second so you can do the math on that that's nearly six or seven times faster than my network and furthermore much much faster than the little mechanical drives I'm using but if I'm gonna back up a lot of data and I want to do it cheap not necessarily fast then I use the mechanical drives and I do it at night and I go to bed and I always verify my backups always verify them as soon as whatever backup software you're using there should be an option somewhere in there that you check a little box that says to verify my backup to compare it to make sure that it was done correctly don't wait until you need it to find out your backup but doesn't work or files are missing or corrupted like you don't want to have a fire exit out of your house to a window that doesn't open you know you need to check it will this window open if I have to get out of it how does it open you should know that before you need to know that someone's talking about the z77 chipset was from 2012 it's not 12 years ago it's seven years ago it's old it seems to me z77 was somebody brought that up when was it introduced april of 2012 okay fair enough that's the old socket 1155 in my world that would be obsolete that would that would be that wouldn't even be a system I would necessarily want to give to disabled veterans because of its age it's just too old ideally you want to replace a computer about every 5 or 6 years at the latest latest ideally you'll do it about every 3 or 4 or keep little upgrades going every year don't just leave it the way it is and anything it's gonna last forever it's not a toaster it's not an appliance we're still evolving the Internet at a rapid pace as well as the computer technology so many things exist today that did not exist in 2012 that that computer was never engineered for and it can never do and that includes the threats in the way that the hackers exploits the operating system in ways they've never done before op the antivirus then has to be more robust and requires more RAM and more CPU power to power it to go against all these advanced threats and then of course you've got new technologies different types of Wi-Fi and SATA USB SATA has improved up to SATA 3 I don't know 77 had SATA 3 now we're even phasing that out to MDOT to nvme which you can never do on that computer unless you have UEFI to boot from it and you'd have to put an add-in card in and now you're just you're you're just patching it you're just putting band-aids and duct tape on it and to me that's not a sign of reliability and you're just prolonging the inevitable and the question for me to you is you can either change that computer out when you want to on your schedule or you can wait for it to fail and or or be exploited and have all your data stolen and be forced to when it decides it's time so you can either react to it or you can be proactive and do it on your schedule on your budget because when it happens and you're forced to deal with it it'll be at the worst possible time and it won't be ideal to be shopping around for the best price at that time you're gonna for most people be in sort of a panic mode and it is my preference my preference to handle everything calmly on a schedule with research so I know what I'm getting I know I'm getting a good price and then I will phase it out on my time for I have customers and they want to be reactive instead of proactive I don't want those customers so again that's just my attitude do what's right for you just explaining when I have a customer and they won't take my advice and they'll say well we'll just wait till it breaks you have no idea how much stress that puts on me Glenn livet has contributed five Canadian dollars he says great videos Kerry I hate ads so here's some money cheers Thank You Glenn yeah I'm with you I'm trying I am I am trying desperately to keep this channel as free of ads as possible but I also want to grow the channel and if we have more contributors like you and I see Hugh Wong has contributed two bucks he says nice system Gary Thank You Hugh we viewers like you possibilities that opportunities begin to appear versus being limited with what I can do this is why I'm able to build that 39 50 X this is why I'm able to build the 99 hundred KS and this is why if anybody says I'm an AMD fanboy or an Intel fanboy I've got them both covered I am I know you can't please everybody but damn it I'm gonna try anyway and in order to do that there's a lot of funding that is taking place to pay for everything and then ideally somebody will want to buy it and then with that money I receive I can turn around and put it into the next project and we can have some really cool and amazing content as well as the regular practical stuff that I do normally and maybe even some fancy productions maybe someone like Mitch and I can get together and do some fancy edited video you know while polished and edited to just be like everybody else but that won't be the normal thing that'll just be like a fun little thing we do on the side so I I don't want to do the same thing I want to keep experimenting and I want to keep making it interesting for me keep it interesting for me as well as sharing my knowledge and we can hopefully have a laugh and some fun along the way so thank you thanks you guys David Kane says feel free to hit me up on Facebook we can talk and get to know each other if you want well thank you David thanks for your contribution bear in mind I don't really sit and talk with anybody on Facebook somebody might reach out to me and say hello and I'll say hello and that's about the extent of it because I got eight million other things I've got to do I have a customer I was supposed to invoice three weeks ago I won't get paid until I give them an invoice and that invoice should have been due on January 1st I haven't even so much as had time to sit down and write up the invoice when you guys send your contributions through PayPal I always send it thank you but sometimes those thank-yous they won't come for three or four or five days and that's because I can't just hit reply I have to log into PayPal which has two-factor authentication get my phone get my code and then have to find your contribution in the PayPal summary then there I can see your email address which I can copy and paste from the email that PayPal sends me and then I can put the response you know hey thank you for your contribution thanks for watching and I have to do that for each and every email and so I will often cut and paste some responses but they're all still done by me they're all done by hand there's no automation to that and and it's discouraging sometimes to have to go through and do all that login for one email I might wait till there's ten or fifteen it's a ton and Craig that all out so if somebody's just like hey Carrie what are you doing you're probably not going to engage me in conversation because it'll be taking me away from other work I've got to do don't take it personally but I will be polite and I will say hello but if you're a customer and you're having a support issue or you want to order a computer for me I got all the time in the world you know will the schedule a time we'll talk on the phone an hour two hours Mahdi knows this bill and Oregon knows this people know that when their customers they take immediate priority whether their current future or past customers they're always a customer and I want to make sure that they know that as busy as I am I'm busy because of them they're the ones keeping me busy so so if you're a fan on the channel and you want to say like China that's great thank you I do appreciate it but with regards to engaging in a how do you do what I will probably end up doing is some form of a meet up we'll see I saw that the Harkins movie theaters will rent out the theater for about $100 an hour so we'll see what kind of response we get in the Phoenix area for people who would be interested in coming out maybe we can get Harkins to show one of my quick tips or a video made just for the meetup on the movie screen we can do live Q&A and just hang out and chat that would be a lot of fun so that's another 20/20 out bucket list item for this year Robert Cronin said he's a busy man guys I'm happy he gets our line when you can even get on the channel I respect the man for being as busy as he is as tight as we're going that's kind of you again my there's way too much on my plate I don't want to be rude to anybody you know but at the same time it's very flattering that people want to talk to me yeah I grew up really without any friends and and people didn't want to talk to me now I have the opposite problem too many people want to talk to me and I don't have enough time to to engage in that apart from scheduling something specifically for that but I hope you appreciate or at least understand it's nothing other than time and Brendon Lindy's contributed to pounds hey Thank You Brendon the goat says be careful you don't burn yourself out Carrie I've already burned myself out a couple of times and when that happens I step away for a while I know that the when that starts happening the quality of my videos goes down my views goes down the amount of money I make goes down I get more frustrated it's a downward spiral but I'm reinvigorated 2020 is here we're here now and I've got a lot of things I said I didn't want to do this is the year I'm doing them they all I don't expect all of them to succeed but I'm not gonna continue doing the same things I've always done there's going to be a different approach sometimes and I want to see what the results are and I'm gonna just keep experimenting with that till I find the right formula that works that includes the studio that includes content exclusively for paid subscribers that includes meetups meet-and-greets if there's enough people locally or willing to come out to justify it potential sponsorship opportunities that don't make me a sellout you know only all these kind of things they're all gonna be and many more things that I want to explore throughout this year and of course the video content that I always do these live videos these will still remain that's still going to be the same as far as that goes it's just well I'm doing that because again there's so much more room on my plate right I'm gonna tack on all this other stuff in an attempt to find something that pleases everybody in the sense that I get the views I want I'm getting the subscribers the growing at a faster rate they I just don't have the answer to it yet it's the same issue every business has how do I the business is growing it's not growing fast enough for my youtube channel to get to be where I want it to be if I don't change anything and I keep doing exactly what I've always done and I don't make any changes by the time I hit a million subscribers I'll be a hundred and forty five years old I don't think that's possible so I need to make the changes now if I ever want to see a million subscribers I have to take a different approach and at the same time I've got to be careful not to make it too different and end up going the opposite direction that would be bad so it's gonna be a lot of toes in the water as I kind of feel out what's working and what's not working and 2020 is gonna prove to be a very interesting year because of that so I'm really invigorated I'm far from burnout I'm really invigorated about it because there's a lot of potential here Carrie do you have an email so people can wire money yes I can show you that I talk about this a lot but since I've got this machine hooked up behind me I'll just show you if you go to your browser and type in tech - or - vets like veteran ve TSM that's going to take you to the website of Mike and I we do our podcast about running a computer repair business we talk about the trials and tribulations frustrations and challenges that we have to overcome whether we're talking about taxes or invoicing or difficult customers weird problems with computers this is an audio podcast you can listen to and your convenience and we're on show the latest show is 148 so we've done 148 of these shows I know up at the top I got to change this it says it's a weekly podcast we were sort of biannual at this point we do a show every few months but regardless of that every show is available and if you look over to the right you'll see there's a donate button right here and you can click that at any time to contribute the donate button goes through PayPal and PayPal takes 3% of your contribution but when you see the contributions in YouTube super chat those super chat contributions YouTube is taking 30% of whatever you're contributing and for $1 $2 even $20 it's not a big deal but with it's 50 bucks or it's more substantial not only is YouTube taking 30% of it but then I have to wait to get paid upwards of 60 days with PayPal I get it instantly I can refund it if you're like hey I don't like you anymore give me my money back I'll give you your money back no problem I can't do any of that with super cheque you know I get it instantly and I can send you a thank-you with super chat I can't even send you a thank-you because I have no idea who it came from so right below that it says contact us and there's Mike Smith and there's Kerri Holzman now if you have your email properly configured in Windows then when you click on that it will open your email application so see I don't have anything configured here if that doesn't work for you then you can just hover your mouse over the link I think yeah and if you look at the bottom left corner right now on the screen right above my Start button do you see that little window that just popped up I'll bring it back again when I hover over it that's the email address right there it says mail to : and then after that that's the command that's that's got the email address and that's how you can reach me however if your request is not business-related if you're not a prior customer you're not interested in becoming a customer you just want to talk to me you just want to share a problem you're having with me I probably will not have time to engage you I will probably respond with you know you can go to tech guy dot org for free support so if you're looking if you have a question and you want to solve it yourself and you just want to pick my brain and you don't intend to pay me for it I just don't have time because there are other people paying that are waiting but you can go to tech guy dot o-r-g which I'm just typing up there and this is a free support site I have to I have to spell it correctly te CH GUI dot o-r-g and that's tech support guy this is free 24/7 it's all volunteer based there's no warranty no guarantee and the information you get may or may not be accurate however they cover all different kinds of topics so if we go over to the forums side you can see there's everything from how to remove viruses security questions networking questions we have an email issues web design questions with programming business applications games other software digital photography questions multimedia hardware software development Windows 10 Windows 8 Windows 7 Windows Vista Windows XP Windows Server earlier versions of Windows Linux and UNIX Apple and Mac DOS Apple mobile devices Android mobile devices Windows Mobile devices other mobile devices you could see this is all broken down in all these different categories you go in there put your question in there and there's no limit to how many questions you can ask and the people there just simply do it to help others so please be kind to them nobody's getting paid for this so the fact that anybody respond - you should not result in an argument or a fight you can just say thank you regardless if you thought their information was helpful or not that's all based on a on a community of people who want to help each other and they all have the best of intentions I will say that a lot of money I've made has come from people with the best of intentions completely screwing up somebody else's computer to the point where they had to pay me to fix it but the help here is this website's been around like 20 years they've been doing this for free they've got a long history of being a place I'm comfortable recommending so but that'll answer those questions as well and let's see I can close that now and let's go back to camera one now I'm also excited for those of you who perhaps I run into a lot of skeptical people online and so some people think then when I tell you I've got these cameras you think I'm showing you the same camera twice so so just to prove to you I haven't put them in action yet again I've been so busy and I've got all these grand plans but these are the two brand new XF 400 cameras and of course what you're seeing me on is this is a identical to these two so these are some big monsters here so these are the XF 400 camera Dave and camera Peter and this camera the main camera hmm maybe that'll be camera John I'm not sure yet but that's sort of an homage to the people who have contributed generously to the channel so that I can afford these are twenty five hundred dollars a piece each one has a 256 gig memory card in it those are like 80 bucks apiece and then they have a tripod head that's about thirty dollars a tripod that's another hundred dollars and we don't get me started on the microphones so for right now I just have the microphones that I've had before and that's all I should need these should just be additional for different angles close-ups and things like that and they do exist they are here and I just have to put a plan of action and to utilize them efficiently so that's why I'm explaining why I'm so excited about 20/20 I've got seventy-five hundred dollars worth of cameras I never had before plus they still have the old cameras and that means if I want to do something a little risky like driving my car over a camera I'll use one of those these aren't going underneath the car but but again it's the contributions from the community that have made that possible I mean look for me to have one of these is incredible you know I don't come from a place of money I'm not a trust fund baby my last name is not Kardashian so to have one of these just like wow it's like well if I had anything I wanted then I wouldn't want three of these I wouldn't want a more expensive camera I wouldn't want a different model of camera this is exactly the camera I would want but if I could have anything I wanted I'd want three of them well I got three of them now it's time for me to put them to use so we'll be doing that this year as well and I'm excited for that really excited because they're the same model of camera all the lighting in color as I move you know from camera one the camera two to camera three year or from camera John to camera peter dinh camera Dave that you guys won't be seeing different lighting conditions and color that's what's been happening with the because none of my cameras are the same this is the first time I've had multiple cameras that are the same model and they are 4k cameras but I'm not yet broadcasting in 4k that I also hope to be doing in 2020 as well so Dwight do I sound like I'm really excited about this year I am far from burnout by the way this computer has been running the whole time behind me we've got this fan running these two fan runnings and the straight power eleven power supply from be quiet is running and I'm standing right next to it I'll even take them it's dead silent like I can feel the breeze so I don't know if that is but I don't hear it it's the fans are dead silent the person that's getting this computer they're gonna love it what time is it twenty two five my time okay so you only got about twenty minutes here David Keynes contributed two dollars he says business is business I understand it's more than business this is about trying to make this community larger if I allow an individual to consumer monopolize my time and then I am voluntarily consenting to allowing them to prevent me from using that same time to grow a bigger community include even more people into it to try and go out there and market myself or to come up with other video ideas that will perhaps gain an audience I haven't yet acquired well at the same time you know not losing the audience I have and to continue to grow it and I can't do I can't be in two places at the same time so it's it's really about the community it's what's best to take this to the next level where we are is fantastic and I've been working on it since 2012 right so this is not an overnight success although I wouldn't even call it successful at this point it is still a side gig for me I want it to be my full-time gig and I want this community three to four times bigger than it is now before I die so it's time just you know to take this momentum and to keep pushing it forward and just strike while the iron is hot and see what we can make of it together and and in order to do that then the time I spend away from the camera needs to focus continually on my customers my future customers locating a studio remember I still have all the other things people have to do I don't have a maid I don't have a butler I still have to take out the trash and put the do the dishes and do my laundry and mop the floors and you know I stuff to do all the ordinary things everybody else has to do but I don't clock in and I don't clock out I don't I don't have a 40-hour a week job I wake up I work until I go to bed with far a few exceptions I might relax and watch a little TV or go out to a movie occasionally I stop to eat sometimes I go out to eat sometimes I just eat something here because I'm the only employee so if I don't do whatever needs to get done it simply does not get done so time for me is very very precious and I have overloaded items on my plate so I wouldn't say it's business so much as it's trying to us trying to make a dream a reality and I've got enough of a taste of it in my mouth now because the channel is at this size where it's like oh this is actually possible now like when the channel is smaller and you have a few thousand subscribers or whatever they can start to feel a little like and it's just a little side thing I do for fun but then when it starts to you know become a certain size and it starts to gain a certain momentum like oh there might be something here let's find out and that requires a new concentration that is gonna require a little experimentation to figure it out but I'm I'm excited for it and I'm only allowed Facebook only allows 5,000 friends and so if you try to friend me on Facebook and it's not allowing you it's because I've hit that limit but almost every day somebody unfriend me with 5,000 friends who knows you know they could have friend years ago and forgotten about it or whatever and if you just try a couple times throughout the week you'll probably get through I always confirm all the friend requests I mean unless somebody's got a you know profane name or something like that but otherwise you know I just confirmed them and you're welcome to be my friend on Facebook but if it's not allowing it just try again the next day and the next day some days three people are want to friend me and other days nobody unfriend me but it's a constant flux of people coming and going so don't be discouraged if you don't get through the first time good writer 2009 says good job Carrie I like your video since I found you here on YouTube right on good writer and it's my goal that there are others like you out there who don't know I exist that we can reach out to them and make me aware I'm over here DHR Street speed says camera Dave yeah I haven't labeled these yet I finally got around to putting labels on the batteries because all the batteries on the Canon cameras are the same physically so I've labeled these as the XF 400 batteries with the date so I get an idea if it's time to replace the batteries and then I will put a label one of these will be Dave one of these will be Peter and I think the other ones gonna be John but DHR Street speed is is Dave for those of you who want to know one nine one by seven says all seagate fire CUDA SSDs in our super micro servers have died these enterprise SSDs only a few months old seems they're as bad as their drives I can't speak for that I don't know in data centers I don't know if wood drives are more reliable than others there been other issues that's a very unique scenario that you know enterprise level stuff is generally not covered in YouTube videos it's why you hire employees that were supposed to know these things and hold them accountable to the decisions they make and I'm not an expert in that so I couldn't tell you if you got a bad batch or somebody didn't know what they were doing and they weren't configured right I don't know maybe they weren't being cooled properly there's a lot of variables where the people using them with the reasons why they failed prematurely and other cases there's a manufacturing issue but if it's just you and other people are using the same SSDs and their enterprise environments without a problem I wouldn't be so quick to say it's a problem with the SSDs I don't know enough to say one way or the other it's interesting nonetheless camera Mitch okay no Mitch we'll hold the camera Mitch's contributions come from being here in helping me Mitch doesn't send me any money and nor would I want him to it's quite the opposite I try and pay Mitch in some way shape or form for his time here he's got to drive across town you know just the gas alone is probably costing him $10 just to just to come come here and go home so but we will definitely have one of these cameras at Mitch's hands very very soon we'll see if he complains that it's too heavy Mitch you in there today Kevin wants to know if my family members support all my stuff in the kitchen here let's just say I'm looking to get into a studio let's put it that way Bearpaws contributed 2 pounds he says keep up the good work hey Thank You Bearpaw Shaun Baxter contributes 2 pounds Thank You Shaun thanks you guys 1 9 1x7 says I'm in a hospital NIT we have an external company dealing with our servers yeah ok so here's the problem these these service providers they're looking to make profit they're not necessarily and I'm look I don't know who your service provider is but they're not all the same some of them have no clue what they're doing others like I've seen Hospital it was a story of a whole school system infected with ransomware because the contracted service provider basically got the system unsecured their system which enabled them the hackers to get in and have remote access to everything the service provider was accessing remotely which included the entire school system school district service providers have gone on a business service providers on the medical billing for blood lab work here in the United States didn't secure their stuff properly and as a result they got sued because all this customer private medical information was then exposed and released to the wild and so the companies that hire the service providers sued them for the damage caused to their company and that company responded by filing for bankruptcy and shutting down so just because you have a service provider doesn't mean you've got the best service provider or that they're making the best decisions and ultimately it should be the on the service provider when the things that they suggested fail they're held accountable to replacing repairing etc if they're not doing that it'll sound like a very good service provider but I don't know I'm not there I'm only hearing it from you I'm only hearing you know every coin has two sides every front has a back I don't know what their side of it is but something somebody's got some motivation to do what they've done and we just don't know if that motivation was purely for profit or if it was sincere for what was best for the customer I don't know I bet carrie has a second kitchen for the real meals yeah yeah it's on my yacht Glyn Davies has contributed five Australian dollars he said I'd be very happy to do camera work for you every day if I didn't live exactly 8221 point three six miles away yeah you know Mitch's Kimmy it really isn't that bad when you put it that way it's nice of you to offer just the same it's the thought that counts right okay I'm ending in five minutes guys five minutes last questions let's do it let's go last five minutes Brett Hibbs says thanks to you Carrie I'm interested in computers again in fact they upgraded my mom's old computer with a new power supply and graphics card right on Brett and let's make you blue here let's turn Brett blue love it I love positivity I like support and I like kindness those three things will get you turned blue here not just once though you've got to do it I've got to see and recognize you in good writer 2009 so good job oh that even read that one already thank you Karina says anybody who finds you Carrie is no doubt going to stay you are the best that's kind of you thank you wish it was true it's all right just the fact that they've they've there's a lot of channels on YouTube there's a lot of competing videos not necessarily on the topics that I cover but there's a lot to choose from so for anybody to click on mine that's the first obstacle to overcome once they're here then the second thing is to make content that I hope they find relatable that they want to come back again oh I do see Mitch in there ready to go Mitch says I won't complain I'm just teasing I'm the one who complains that's my job I'm really good at it Mitch says I've been working out so I'm up for it well we're gonna test that I will I will say that this camera probably weighs about 4 4 to 6 pound let's call it 5 pounds that doesn't sound like a lot but if you have to hold it like this you know like what to say I'm installing motherboard in the case or whatever it's all mitch has to weigh up like that and I'm sitting there chatting going on and so-and-so contributed in the check and Mitch is like you know you're gonna need to move this along Carey and he starts bracing his arm and then maybe the camera Mitch hasn't had it shake yet but you get to a point where it starts to really feel heavy so we'll just see how you've been working out okay go ahead does your YouTube channel talk to your audience this is what I see all day this is what you look like to me you have one eye and you're very stoic okay three minutes three minutes left last questions three minutes Thomas Robinson says there's another great show Carrie have a good night say Steve say state stay safe Thank You Thomas turn in Thomas blue how about a 360-degree camera for 20 21 videos I've already had that idea I thought hmm it would be really cool if you could look all around the classroom the classroom my kitchen and that when you know you can put a VR headset on and you could look around and at any time that you looked far enough away that the counter was no longer in the shot that the video would pause and my voice would say we will continue when you pay attention and then when you look back at the counter then the video would presume you know continue in resume good thing I'm teaching just like a real teacher would do that's the only thing I want to do with it just like that be cool that's how much of a nerd I am Abdul Azim Patel's contributed 2 bucks he goes what are your thoughts on the CISSP or cisa certificates I don't know what those are whatever industry that's for if the in general any certifications are unimportant unless you have an employer or a potential employer that requires them otherwise I see them as a waste of time and money and I'm just talking about certs in general not those specific certs some industries require certifications for FINRA or HIPPA compliance requirements but again if a job doesn't require it what's the point in having it Patrick Doyle says great show Carrie love the channel thanks you guys we'll get everywhere with flattery I really appreciate the kindness I haven't seen any trolls today which is weird how about a chest cam so that I do have I recently bought a GoPro and there is a harness you can wear but when I did that be a couple of years ago I did a GoPro computer build it made people nauseous in fact maybe I can show it to you if we go back to let's go back to this desktop and hit YouTube up again and let's do Carey Holzman go throw there it is now this was done a few years ago it was what 2015 2014 it was July 2014 and I used the GoPro to try and give you a more you know a view of what I'm seeing and you can see that tint on it was very yellow and there's no Steadicam so it's like it's constantly wavering and it was making people motion sick so it was a good idea now this wasn't on my chest this was I was wearing it on my head and I was never quite sure where the camera was pointing I had no way to monitor the video I just filmed it and hope for the best now I do have a more modern GoPro that will enable me to monitor the video output but I don't know that it's gonna solve the the motion sickness issue and hopefully the lighting will be better you see how everything has a yellow tint to it and it's drastic when I switch from my main camera to the GoPro and back you'll see yeah so that there's me with the main camera there's the main camera notice there's no yellow tint anymore and then we go to the GoPro and in the lighting and the color that's what I'm saying oh it's important that all the cameras are the same so you know that shot looks pretty good it's pretty clear colors are pretty good and then I'm gonna get to the GoPro again here in a moment I think well regardless you can see and there's my old crappy floor good riddance to that old floor you can see the yellow look at look at how yellow the countertop looks so yeah anyway been there done that be careful what you ask for so I could say you about that and that's the title of the video if you want to search for it that's the July 2014 build video all right well that was fun thanks you guys so much for joining me today it was great hanging out with you I hope that you hope you enjoyed today's video trolled my trolling tintin you look so young in 2014 I look young now whoever said that I can't see you because I'm so old I can't see it's bad joke anyway reward so thanks again I will see you all probably on Monday I'm gonna try and broadcast on Monday I've got the brand-new Corsair 750m power supply to put into martin's computer or if you remember that repair from a couple days ago like I said Corsair sent me a brand new power supply sealed in a box as if as if I just went and bought a new one and the benefit to that is all of his pre-existing cable management will plug into the same plugs and I just have to you know run the cable management on the two non-modular cables which is the 24 pin and the 8 pin motherboard power so that'll be probably Monday and then I've got to finish up the cable management here on this beast I'll do that off-camera between now and then I hope and then be able to show you final you know the final view of what that looks like and then my sister can edit all that you know this build take all the chitchat out of it and now she's got an ending when I do that the white and black computer I fixed I got to ship that out on Monday I was not able to get it out yesterday as I was hoping to do that build back over there back over there I've got to finish that up and I have two new builds next week one of which is going to be for a piece of software called blender so if you're interested in that watch for that build coming up Tuesday or Wednesday I think that's gonna wrap it up for me thank you guys again for joining I will see you all again very very soon until then bye for now you you you
