hello and welcome back this is Steve from ski coaching online and in this video we're going to look at how to ski parallel but more importantly how to keep your skis potion together um so this is a common question we get asked um with people that ski around and they watch videos of themselves and they can see that their their stance just doesn't look natural um so when we say closer together let we want to be how our body is laid out so we want to see a bit more naturally for how we're made up um and what we want to do is instead of trying to stand on two feet we want to be able to balance more on our outside foot and what that will do then that'll enable this inside leg to fall kind of how it wants to fall in your body makeup um which then will look a bit more natural for how your how your body sits so as just getting down here one of the things I'm thinking of is I'm just trying to be a bit more active in getting onto that new outside foot um so as you can see see I'm standing on a hill here so it's a red slope um I'm on a pretty mellow bit of it um but I you can see that my this leg here my uphill leg or if I was making a turn my inside leg that's more flexed than my outside one so if I want to then go the other way this one then has to extend okay to get a little bit longer and in the process of doing that I can feel my weight shift um onto it so I can feel all of my weight move onto this new leg to help me out I actually flat the other leg slightly to so as I'm extending my new outside ski I flex this inside ski and what that does that enables me then to be almost in this position this is what it feels like I'm doing but I'm actually not obviously the skis are on the snow but in my body I'm actively extending the outside leg whilst flexing the inside one what that does it puts me more towards my outside ski it's another thing to think of as well tactically have you ever been skiing ever been in a car and when you're going around the corner you feel like you're getting pushed to the outside of the car like you um ever driving quite fast and the car turns and it feels like you're getting pulled to the outside of your car this same when skiing if I'm going quite fast here okay and then as I extend that outside leg it feels quite heavy quite early because I'm going quite fast down the hill so when you're skiing around if you find that you're St or your skis you kind of stuck in that FL orall it's quite wide like this get some area that you're comfortable with take the speed up a notch okay again only do this on an area of comp and it's nice and flat like here and then practice extending that new outside leg until you feel that all of your weight is on it and balanced on it and what that will give you is give you a little bit more balance on that leg give you definitely a bit more strength through this part of the corner um and it will enable then an outcome will be that your skis will sit a more natural distance apart give this a try next time you're out on the hill let me know how it goes and I'll catch you next one
