five foot three 63 inches 160 centimeters that is how tall i am this piece is about as tall as me i have shoes on that are vans old school vans that actually have a little bit of a platform so i want to show you guys this piece that we are going to be painting here's the piece it is pretty much the same height as me and i have shoes on so if you guys want to see me do this if you want to see it stay tuned hey everybody if you are new here my name is christana and welcome to my youtube channel i realize that boy you yelling at us cannon what's the problem he's mad that i'm talking to you guys i realized that for those of you who have been following me for a while i never say hi to you in the intro so welcome back friends thank you guys so much for coming back and watching this piece this week is going to be a little less colorful than i've had the last few weeks but we are going to be doing some blending and we're going to use some dark wax and try to pull out the accents of all of these right here you can barely see them because it is painted all black but i think that we can really make these pop this is a piece that is perfect for dixie bell slipstick which is a gripping primer and so you're going to learn how to paint over a finish that is super shiny this piece is made of wood but there are some plastic resin molded pieces like the feet things like that this is actually a huge set that i'll be working on i'm not going to video the entire thing i will be taking pictures so you can see the progress of the entire set but this is the only one we're going to be videoing i'm going to do the same thing on all of them so if you guys want to see how i transform this big black chest that you can't see any of the details in to something amazing stay tuned the first step of this was to remove all of the hardware from the entire chest of drawers [Music] the next step was to clean this chest of drawers with my dixie belt white lightning and i'm going to go ahead and just clean the entire thing and then once i'm done cleaning it i'm going to go back over that with some clean water and a clean rag so that i can get any of the residual off so i don't have any adhesion issues this piece is a mixture of wood and some areas have a resin molding on them it also has a really shiny and slick factory finish and so i'm going to use dixie belt slick stick on this slick stick is a gripping primer and it is used to be able to adhere the paint into surfaces that may be glossy or have adhesion issues so i shake it up and i stir it just to make sure that it is nice and mixed together and then what you're going to do is put one coat of your slick stick on there you let it dry for a few hours and then you put your second coat of your slick stick on there and then you let it dry for 24 hours and then you can go back and paint right on top of it and you're gonna have a really good and strong base to put your paint on and you don't have to worry about the shiny surface not hearing or the paint not adhering to the shiny surface this is a problem solver and i love using it on things that are not wood or larger pieces of furniture that are mixed with the resin or a really shiny surface i am going to be doing some on-site work for this set it is a king-sized set and i can't be sanding at someone's house and they're just too big to move so slick stick is a great alternative and i just you can't i'm not going to sand the resin areas and so because it's a mix of the both i just use the slick stick as my problem solver i do put everything on its back and i make sure that i get underneath there and get the legs and everything so that's what i'm doing right now is it's on its back and i'm making sure i put my slipstick on there you can use slick stick with a brush you can use it with a high density foam roller which is what i'm doing right now these are flatter surfaces and i just figured it'll be a little bit faster you can also spray it as well i don't have a very good spray set up so otherwise i would be spraying this because of all the ornate pieces on this it would have made my life a little bit easier but it's okay i'm just going to roll it and i'm going to take my brush and put it on so same concept you're gonna put a coat on and then you're gonna wait a few hours and put a second coat on so you absolutely can use a paint roller to put it on again this is a high density foam roller that i'm using once i'm done with the roller i go back in with my brush and just get all the cracks and crevices that your brush can't reach [Music] do my slick stick is sat overnight so i'm going to take my manatee gray and i'm going to put that on my piece for my base coat so i will end up blending but i wanted to use a lighter gray because using a lighter color helps me visualize where i want my blends at versus doing a darker color so i'm gonna put two coats of manatee gray on the entire chest of drawers you can see i take the drawers out and i put the drawers back in i'm going to get on the top of here and i'm going to do the top of the piece so make sure you're kind be kind and paint and i'm going to mist this a little bit so that way it helps my paint move a little bit easier so i can have a smooth finish on the top of the piece because it's so flat you could always use a roller if you really want on these pieces but if you use a high quality synthetic brush a little bit of water you can really get a nice finish on those flatter areas [Music] for this i have two coats of manatee gray and what i'm doing is i'm mapping out my blend so you can see around the edges there's a darker gray that is hurricane gray so i'm going to show you right here how i am mapping out how i blend on drawer fronts so what i'm going to do is i'm going to outline everything with the hurricane gray first because i want it to go from dark to light from the outside i want it darker and once it goes into the inside i want it lighter so i'm going to go around both drawers with the hurricane gray to give me that darker shading do now that i've done my hurricane gray i'm going to go back in with my manatee gray and i'm going to put it in the center and make sure you spritz it with your continuous fine mist bottle and i'm going to kind of overlap what i just did because this is how i'm going to blend them together i want to have wet paint so that hurricane gray is still wet this manatee gray is still wet you can keep misting it with your mister bottle but you can see i'm kind of just doing little circles and stuff like that it's this is a rough blend right now we're not making it perfect at this very moment now what i'm going to do is i'm going to take fluff i'm going to miss the middle of it i'm going to take fluff in the center so that way we have a highlighter so it's going from light to dark when we go from the beginning the middle to outside and i'm just using this brush and i'm kind of blending it in just a little bit and then what i'm going to do once i have that blended in a little bit is i'm going to take my mister bottle i'm going to take a clean dry neutral brush and i'm going to start the actual blending process so right now i have laid down my hurricane gray on the outside some manatee gray in the center and then some fluff on top of that manatee gray in the center center this is my clean dry neutral brush i'm going to mist it and because this paint is all still wet i'm going to use this brush and i'm going to feather it all together i'm going to do circles i'm going to go horizontal vertical i'm going to do diagonal and i'm going to just blend this all together because these colors are so close and because the paint is already wet and you're using a mister bottle this makes this blend super super easy so if you are new to blending use colors that are very similar and you can do something like this this is how you do from light to dark you're going to use a light hand when you're doing this but this allows everything to blend what i will end up doing after i have blended this entire part is i'm going to go back and i'm going to outline a little bit with my hurricane gray just to add a little bit more shading and then i will take my neutral brush my clean dry neutral brush and kind of feather it in but this is a really easy blend for you if you are a beginner and you're going to see me do it again on this drawer right here [Music] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] do [Music] so [Music] do now you can see how the two top drawers are blended i just showed you this because they look different but you can work one drawer at a time don't feel like you have to put all the paint all over because it will dry so use one drawer at a time now i'm going around the edges of the drawer and showing you how i clean them up i am using hurricane grain on the gray on the edges because that's what i used on the outside so this is how you make it look nice and professional is go back after you've blended and use the color that's the closest on the outside of the drawer and just put that on the edges of the drawer now i'm going to put my easy peasy spray wax on the entire piece now i didn't show you this part but i did go through and i distressed it a little bit so if you if it looks distressed it is i did i'm sorry i didn't record it but i'm using easy peasy spray wax right now because this is kind of my priming wax because i am going to be doing black so what you do is you spray this on the entire piece and then i take a microfiber cloth and i rub it in and then i'm going to wait about an hour and you can go in with your colored wax and it allows you to wipe away the colored wax a little bit easier because it has that wax underneath it you can also use this wax as an eraser and you'll see that too in a second so we're going to put this wax on here and now i'm going to go in with my besting wax in black i am going to use the brand new la petite brush from dixie bell and i'm going to use a microfiber cloth i'm going to show you right here i'm going to be putting this in it's not at the edges of the piece but it's at the edge of that inset where that the little dots are where that little trim is and so i'm going to put my black wax on here and i'm going to wipe it back immediately with my microfiber cloth to where i like it you can put it as dark or as light as you want and if it's too dark you can take a little spritz of your easy peasy spray wax or any clear wax and you can use it as an eraser so you'll see me do that here [Music] do [Music] do [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] do [Music] do so you've heard the term waxes last but that is not the case with dixie bells wax and their top coats so i'm taking gator hide and i always use a high quality synthetic brush that is only used for my top coat so that i know that there's no little parts of paint in there that will get in my final finish and i am going over my drawer over the black wax over the easy peasy spray wax and i'm going to protect this again now the wax is buffed into the paint the wax is dry it's been about 24 hours it depends on your humidity level and your environment if it takes a little bit longer so i've also worked with this paint enough to know when it's dry so if you're not sure give it about 36 to 48 hours to dry and this allows me to know that this finish is going to be completely protected so now i'm going to take some gilding wax and silver and i'm going to use my finger and i'm just going to go over the ornate areas to add just a little bit pop of color i also i'm going to use a makeup brush on some of the bigger areas but this was kind of the finishing on here i do use this gilding wax on the hardware as well so you'll see that in a second [Music] i could be wrapped around your arms instead of being lonely we could be gazing at the stars but now it feels just like i wandered off into a room and closed the door behind me i never gave the key to you even though i wanted to i should be trying something new but now my body's sick i'm tired of dwelling in the dark it's just that my heart can't take it i didn't know what it would cost me when i let you go i feel alone and i'm just singing it should have been you another time another place i just know gilding wax is oil based and that is why i put it over the top coat so the gilding wax is also self-sealing i cleaned my hardware and now i'm going to change the color of it with the gilding wax and it will stick to the gilding wax and so you'll see right here it was a little bit rough before and now i'm taking the gilding wax and just lightly putting it over it and now i'm transforming it give this a few days to dry and then once it's dried it won't come off of that hardware it's not going to come off your fingers or anything else like that so again the gilding wax you can put it over your top coats i do not recommend that you top coat over top of it because it is oil based and oil and water do not mix the dixie belt wax is water based and their top coats are water based and it's a proprietary blend so that is why it works together but you don't want to top coat over your oil based gilding wax just do your oil base last it's self sealing now i'm going to put my hardware back in and boom this piece is done and now i only have two nightstands a king size bed a low long dresser and a floor mirror and another mirror on top of the dresser to finish but it's gonna be fun all right everybody so this piece is done i hope you enjoyed
