Extreme French Provincial Furniture Makeover

this week we are just creating i'm using whatever i can get my hands on and just having fun things are flying in the air the final result is what i call an aged french glam with a touch of parenthesis just a touch sparkle if you want to see how to get this look then let's get started [Music] i started with this basic french provincial and table it's a typical french provincial design and just what we need for this look i'm removing the hardware on these to work on them easier [Music] i'm going to lightly sand this to make sure my paint sticks when working with formica the best way to make sure your paint stick is to just give it a light scent a rough paper but a light scent i'm using crud cutter to quickly clean the piece i'm just recently found out about this and i love it once you're done with it there is no need to rinse it off that is the best part and that is a duke in 4k like isn't he lovely the first thing i'm going to do to this table is add some voodoo band moldings you will need some glue and a heat gun for this or a blow dryer will work as well the way you use these is first by heating them up they become soft when you do this and bendable then you want to add glue to them [Music] this was my first time working with such a big molding so i was learning as i went by the time i glued it on it wasn't that hot or soft anymore so i had to go back and fix it i fixed it by heating up parts of it again and adding more glue to the edges then i held that down for a little bit and got a nice tight fit i also had a little piece of this leaf blocking the drawer which i had to cut [Music] it's very easy just get a razor blade and cut it straight very easy i promise [Music] the second time around it went much faster and much easier the more you do something the easier it gets it's just normal in life also be careful holding a heat gun too long to your furniture because you're going to end up burning your furniture like i did that is another way to age your furniture i guess any little gaps left over i filled with wood filler to make it look perfect [Music] now it's time to paint i'm using beverly paint and doing one of my favorite color mixes my favorite color mixes ever like forever we're going to turn this ordinary baby pink color in sophisticated and dusty pink color huge difference in there just a touch of brown [Music] i painted in every direction and i also tapped my brush a little bit [Music] all that leads to some extra texture on our paint which i wanted [Music] that texture is going to make sense later on and help us out you will see [Music] [Music] i did use two coats of this for solid coverage [Music] now to start adding character we're using this adhesive stencil i'm using a sponge brush and truffle for this this adhesive stencil is perfect for baby surfaces like these drawers don't apply too much paint if you want that faded aged look like i'm doing [Music] you can always apply more if you want it a bit darker in some areas [Music] to fade the edges i wet my brush a little and pass the original color over them [Music] [Applause] [Music] when creating an aged look it's all about fading and shading it's all about adding so much character [Music] now for some gold leaf [Music] and this gilding size is my glue it works great it's very important to have a good glue for gold leafing your gold leaf is just going to be as good as your glue it's simple as that again you want to apply that everywhere you're going to gold leaf you want to fan dry this glue for a few seconds for better results i press the entire sheet on it at first [Music] as it starts flaking off you can use those pieces and reattach them [Music] maybe we could try again [Music] i love the look this gives but again i love everything in gold but gold leaf is just extra gold like it's very cold [Music] and of course we're gold leafing this [Music] molding [Music] now for some protection i'm using clear wax and a brown wax for shading yesterday you want to start with clear wax and then wipe off the extra baby then i'm just adding a small amount of brown to the borders [Music] and [Music] this is going to add more depth to the piece i love to do this i also like to do this around the hardware and now all the texture is grabbing the brown wax so nicely and everything comes together [Music] i did a little bit of this around the roses with a detailed brush [Music] duke was hanging out with me the entire time as usual what a good boy he is [Music] and it was done oh my god what a beautiful results i am so in love with this piece [Music] i think this is the prettiest french provincial table i have ever done [Music] this was a lot of playing but look what we got i am so in love with this piece and i'm calling it a dusty rose a french
