How do they compare? Microtech Combat Troodon vs Cypher

welcome to the hollow grind we have a couple of big boys up for comparison on the table today the micro tech combat Troodon and the micro tech cypher these are two of the largest micro tech ot FS that are still very pocketable and offer many features though large they are light enough to carry comfortably and deploy with the quickness let's take a closer look the cypher is a recent addition to the micro tech family and comes in many body and blade configurations its chassis has been sculpted down to a thinner width than the combat Troodon but still offers sculpted gripping points for a secure feel in hand the deployment and retraction are very very smooth and feels slicker than most OTS though a big blade it fills a larger hand very evenly now let's compare it to its other brother the combat Troodon is a force to be reckoned with arguably micro Tech's most popular knife is a very useful design for both EDC and defensive purposes the grippy texture will keep the knife in hand whether wet or dry but it is not so aggressive that it creates discomfort it deploys with a strong positive force and retracts with the same Authority very quick for a large OTF but wait what about the other ends big difference indeed the combat Troodon has a raised dome style end with a titanium carbide insert this works very well for emergency use as a glass breaker but can also be used as a non-lethal impact device by comparison the glass breaker and impact device on the cypher is flatter and more artistic in appearance however the raised insert serves both purposes as well the cipher comes in at just about nine and a half inches overall with a four inch blade it's slimmer and longer than the combat Troodon this one has a smaller sized blade and overall length it is wider and slightly shorter than the cipher its pocket time the combat Troodon is my favorite micro tech model and maybe yours as well one day in pocket the knife carries light and secure the ambidextrous extra wide and long pocket clip stays right where you put it for my large hands it sits perfectly in the palm and puts the deployment button easily within reach the ends that is rounded and is easy on the hands the texturing is superb for a secure feel in either standard or reverse grip I've used a few of these models for EDC and I must admit how well they work and are very dependable the cipher though longer than the combat troodon still carries very light for its size the custom looking right carry pocket clip is slender but grips very well this model fires with a smoother and softer feel but still solid the longer chassis gives you that extra reach in addition to the blade length it's even more apparent and reverse grip the smooth finish is complemented with contoured edges and finger sculpted areas for easy indexing the cipher is very sophisticated side-by-side brothers-in-arms the combat Troodon and cipher will carry light and serve you well thanks for watching we hope you've enjoyed this installment of knife comparisons please visit us at the hollow grind comm or an Instagram forward slash the hollow grind and don't forget to Like and subscribe [Applause] [Music]
