average elementary school kids you know who've uh grown up watching pokemon you know no big deal pretty normal right and the whole elementary school was trading the cards like as if they were like dealing okay get to fifth grade and it's the same thing but with yu-gi-oh middle school comes along and what about papa you aren't allowed to like anime anymore okay liking anime was also suicide starting at the beginning of middle school it was those awkward years where adolescents were receiving too much pressure to mature and a step in the process was to start distancing yourself away from these things that would seem too childish such as pretending no one likes spongebob but newsflash everybody loves spongebob just admit it you aren't cool for hiding it you scum anyways now that you know the cool thing is to like adult cartoons like family guy and family guy now in a previous collab video with emma richie and sea dog va i've stated and i quote back in the day liking anime is the worst thing you could ever do to which of some of you middle schoolers deflected my statement with what do you mean i still get bullied for liking anime and i'm still in middle school well you know what imagine that pain but times it by five anime culture in the west has grown exponentially faster thanks to the internet to the point where people can now make a living out of their passion such as creating videos about them cosplaying drawing whatever you name it okay back then you couldn't do you get where my boomer take is going here during elementary school when i got ridiculed for watching anime and cartoons there was no one there to tell me that it was okay i couldn't just run to the internet and talk to my other weebles out there no i was alone what i could do though let's play bricks on macintosh baby all right hear me out i remember this day like it was yesterday this was one of the days i almost stopped publicly showing my affection for anime it was fourth grade i was walking up the stairs to get to my next class and unfortunately i had to cross paths was two fifth graders fifth graders are scary essentially they're kings of the school i don't know how it got brought up but they asked me if i watched dragon ball z of course i say yes because dragon ball z is sick but little did my young did his brain know i was in for a verbal whooping yeah you still watch cartoons grow up man dragon ball z for kids it's all about wwe and then and the worst part was that it was like a it was like a double team attack so it hurt even more like come on guys you you you guys know how it feels to get gang built man it hurts like dude i was fourth grader owie man i thought the earlier incident in fourth grade was just a fluke so i decided to let my guard down when i entered sixth grade and this is when the uh the drawing incident happened okay you can hear the full story in emily's video but basically to sum it up i was ridiculed in front of the whole class for drawing an anime character i never drew anime in front of anyone in school ever again enter high school and i am now in my loner phase the only people who knew how much i liked anime were either family members or the very few friends that i had which wasn't that many who were all in different classes and grades okay and uh i became a closet weeb now i get it there's a reason why public affection for anime is so embarrassing most people's first thoughts when hearing someone confess that they like anime is that they start thinking about the porn they're probably thinking you're really perverted and you know what they probably ain't wrong i used to and still do collect manga ever since i was a kid and there was one scenario that i remember all too well i was around age 13 and my dad walked in my room while holding in his hands a manga i bought called juan ma half i got nervous because uh i kind of felt what what was coming he goes hey in this comic there's a naked woman uncensored running around nips and everything can you please explain i then had to reply with the truth which was the comic is japanese and the culture is quite different bathing is part of the culture and in the manga i promise you that most of the nude scenes aren't meant to be perceived as sexual most thankfully he believed me and left me alone and i'm glad he did because it's true also remember half a sick and it's just all in lighthearted good fun anyways that's just one of many examples of how anime would be misunderstood the culture is quite different and anything different will raise some eyebrows i can't even count how many times some dude would see that i'm watching anime and immediately jump to the conclusion and start screaming yo no you buffoon i'm watching a very manly show it's very cultured now my pops have stated to me before that everyone needs balance within their life too much of anything needs to be controlled yeah i did not follow this advice i was gaming and watching anime non-stop like i like i breathe it dude now this is a problem because uh when it came to trying to make friends in middle school in high school we're talking to girls i had a very hard time trying to come up with conversations that didn't revolve around these topics i should have just listened to my dead there were and still are tons of references and jokes that would appear in my thoughts in certain situations that would strictly revolve around anime but obviously i would refuse to say it out loud because they wouldn't understand and i'd make a fool out of myself unless they were a filthy disgusting degenerate weeb like me now this is a problem that i now realize and it needs to be fixed so i decided to wait out the rest of my high school years because in high school once you're kind of labeled in a certain way it's too much effort to escape and it garners way too much attention okay it's best to wait it out but once i graduated high school and entered college i focused on trying to explore and appreciate a wide variety of interests things i've closed off before i decided to open it i still played video games and watched anime of course but i was just more open-minded and broadened my horizons because i actually want to talk to people at this point i decided to just start embracing my love for anime i was no longer afraid of what people would think and i no longer tried to hide it i i think i just came to the conclusion that anime has been ingrained into my life for far too long and it just became a part of who i am now my roommate can vouch for me here all right taylor if you had one sentence to describe my room in college what would it be dude do i see the full sentence or can i use one word sure whatever works man [Music] that's actually a better answer than i was hoping dude i thought you were just going to say anime titties or something dude that was way better well i mean yeah the reason it was embarrassing was anime city you heard the man i embraced that squid if you guys out there ever feel like how i felt back then right now then i highly suggest going to anime conventions when they're available it's a blessing because it's a place where your hobbies and interests really feel validated with other like-minded people at the highest possible peak fitting in is as easy as one two three because basically normies are the odd ones out for once although my heavy interest in anime has made my social life quite difficult dark souls level when growing up i don't regret it at all because after all i've made lifelong friends through it inspired me to draw and be creative and frankly there's just too many anime nowadays that there's something for everybody right okay uh this is an anime video i need i need to do something cringy hold on sorry sorry sorry i'll see you later let's go bye bye bye
