Homemade Floating Sluice Experiment

[Music] get everyone Alicia from Grady Galt and today Steve and I we're back up at the creek but today we're doing something a little bit different a few weeks ago blue board we had a few days of rain so we came up with the solution to a problem that we've been having in this section of the Creek which is not a great deal of water flow so stay with us we're gonna get it to show you and let's see how we go [Music] so here's our little invention I have to give at least 95% of the credit to Steve and I'll take 5% of the credit because he used my pool noodles but we've come out with this little floating sluice and attached to it is this Fisher's hand pump so there's the nozzle there's the pump end and so usually this pump is attached to a bucket we have used it before but we have attached it to this floating sluice that we made now the actual sluice bit it's out of um guttering that you're putting like your driveway so like ground guttering I suppose you'd call it up here's the crash box so as your pump it's gonna come through here down through here and we've got different kinds of mats we've got type of miner's moss which is just a regular house mat sorts of little riffles and everything and down here here's the pan so if anything comes out tailings End we should catch it now it's all just held together with PVC and bracket some things and then floating with the pool noodles so this is where the fishermen pump hooks up to the back of the sluice Steve just made this little crush box [Music] so hopefully we can see some results in here and this bit here as well this is just for the larger rocks as they come in hopefully helps them just move out and the finest smaller gold hopefully will drop down into here so let's get this baby pumping now this is this spot in a few of our videos that you've seen where we bucketed the sluice well it's gotten deep there was some rain a couple of days ago so has filled up a little bit I'm nearly gumboot deep and one thing we forgot we're going to attach a rope to it to tie around her waist in case it floated away that I think will be pretty safe today so with this fish's pump is just go to prime at first so just pumping water in I made a few videos in this spot before and you can't run a sluice so in one of our videos we will bucketing the sluice with buckets of water to run the material through so this is where the inspiration this little device came from [Music] [Music] everything seems to be moving through there all right hopefully we've caught some gold in it I'll just give it some clear water yeah try and hold it up a few pumps so just hand out the little pan that's in the tailings and section and there was like two little nano dots in there so they went back in the creek so we might even suck them up again we have seen a couple of little pieces in the top so looks like it might be working it's a few little bits really little small fine bits up just under the crush box in there either pink cool they're gonna keep pumping okay so if struck a problem nothing to do with a float a ting or anything that we've made in this loose but the hand pump just crafts in that bit that the nozzle goes onto stever's is clearing the hose and then we heard it break so this is actually 3d printed plastic I don't know if it was already a bit dodge that's such a disappointment so that's ruin our plans were in the main pumping for probably 20 minutes but that's how it goes can't predict the future so what we're gonna do now we're gonna take all of the maps out in the different sections and we've got different buckets and pans so we can roughly see if or where the gold was sitting but we have seen a few little fine little bits up in here so we're gonna clean it up because we can't pump with it anymore see if we got any take this bad boy home see if we can fix it and we definitely come back because at least we know now that it's floating and it didn't seem cool nothing flew off it so let's clean it up okay so we're gonna clean out the bottom section first and we've made it so everything just pulls out nine clips [Music] pretty fine okay so now we're doing the next section just slides out not sure there's a little bit too long as most to find out I actually stuck only okay so will the mats are clean new just doing the pan that set down to they'll catch the tailings zip okay there's nothing in there little tailings pin it's a whole little black scene okay now I just cleaning out the actual sluicey bit just flashing that down into the pan again it's done okay we'll check this pan nothing in that there's nothing lifting that it should be all on the mats so now we're gonna clean them up so the first one was from the kind of bottom II section the next one was up in the top section so we're gonna pin them out and see how much probably go so this is the first bucket and it had the grain pocketed kind of similar to a mine is most matting in it which was at the furthest point of the sluice it's really a solid painted black scene [Music] [Music] okay so just getting down to the last of the black scenes there's a little bit [Music] and there's some really nice little pieces you know so for about 15 minutes of actual pumping we so wish we could have pumped for the three hours that we planned but we'll use this as a little test run yeah that's what you'd pull a test run so we're cleaning the hose out that was attached to the hand pump and it's corrugated inside so it's acting as like a riffle so we're gonna clean it out see if there's any gold hiding in there because there might be this has been one of our major concerns with this design that this would trap the gold so we'll see if it has just letting it fill up with water and then just raising it up straight give it a good shake hopefully in that bucket he's very empty adding to we've just got a big rock in there it doesn't float away as the water goes through all right okay so this is the bucket and that's all the material that came out of the hose I mean they could be more still in it but David a pretty good clean-out pan this tiny little bit off and see if there's any gold hiding in there and yeah there was gold in it tiny little nano dots I mean I don't think the GoPro pick it up but there is a few little few little baby dots in there well my theory with the para gates in the hose is that they'd fill with black sand and the gold would right across the top and find its way out tiny little bit there nothing to worry about not much material from that one okay so we've cut the bucket down that had the top section material and we're just panning it back we've had a few little snakes so far rising through the black sand so there is gold in here dense blacks and yeah here we go yeah I just roughly do it so we can have a look well well that did work hmm the damn pump didn't break there's some nice gold in there just try and get it a little bit closer nice so that was probably yeah 15 20 minutes of actual pumping so if we got the three hours in we wanted to we would have got some really really nice gold we did get really nice girl but we would have got more of it okay it's just a test run it's experiment we're experimenting and now we know that it floats doesn't sink and because we're worried about the pan down the end getting too heavy but it didn't seem to be a problem nothing broke off or fell off my pool noodles were a success we got some nice gold so we're definitely coming back and we're gonna spend more time with the hand pumps loose not bad 15 minutes of pumping and we're gonna get some more nice shiny girl but I'll get a nice picture of it also you can see it cuz the poor old GoPro struggling with a lot today yeah it's really overcast and son keeps popping out it's about to rain so we're actually gonna pack up and probably hit now awesome super happy so our little Frankenstein works about a hundred case from here to our house so heading home get
