Hermitcraft 8: Episode 5 - DOUBLE MEGA FARMS!

we aren't doing so well despite looking like superman crashed into a farmer's market having a thriving potato based vending machine business which actually it does actually seem to be thriving an absolutely enormous starter base gigantic industrial potato farm that is producing way too many potatoes i actually can't keep up having enormous ghast farmer and a machine that plays wonder wall despite having all of these things we're not doing so well i see things like this and i realized that the number of diamonds i have and the number of resources i have is not that much you know i i don't really have that much going on i've prioritized other things other than gathering these bits and these are the bits i need to be gathering so i think it's time that we run down into the mines and it's times like these where i really wish i could bring a weapon however i'm hoping that this mining session should be a little bit less deadly because i'm adapting my mining technique once again i'm sure you'll remember when we all initially started mining on the hermitcraft server in this new minecraft 1.17 world there was a little bit of panic that there just weren't that many diamonds it felt like there were no diamonds to be found it was taking forever all sorts of theories started popping up as to what the best y level for mining diamonds was and a lot of people settled on y equals five now i'm not sure on the facts i i haven't i haven't looked into what's being confirmed here but i thought today i would try sticking with the old faithful y equals eleven and it worked well it worked really really quite well so purely anecdotally for me it doesn't seem like anything's changed i honestly think that maybe some of us had just forgotten what it was like to not mind with enchanted tools and we were getting complacent with that being said remember i'm a complete who has done zero research but check out this this is from about two two and a half hours worth of mining and i would say that is really quite good i mean one and a half stacks of diamonds strip mining without the use of a haste to beacon that is not bad that really is not bad so now not only are we doing incredibly well on the projects front making tons of progress building ridiculous builds but also we're doing pretty well on the being incredibly rich front i tried to say that without sounding flexy and it ended up coming out really flexy like the ultimate flex however to continue this flexathon i have now fully filled up my valuables chest i have no more room for valuables if mumbo is a potato and mumbo eats potato is mumbo a cannibal if a potato eats another potato is he cannibalizing the potato do potatoes even have feelings i'm a potato do i have feelings it doesn't even matter if the thing that you're eating has feelings can you be a cannibal if you have no feelings but the thing that you eat has no feelings i mean i certainly don't feel bad about this situation how do the potatoes feel okay i'm going to choose to ignore that so what's our first project then hmm any any projects thankfully yes i would like to build up an enderman farm now as you can see there is already an enderman farm on the hermitcraft server but this is an enderman farm that allows you to get xp or in this case xb was an unexpected joke now obviously that type of farm favors killing the enemy by hand which obviously i can't do so i need to kill them with spikes because that's considerably more humane you see i don't really need the xp but i definitely do need the ender pearls so that's why i need to construct this thing and also i've never really built an enderman farm on the hermitcraft server before so this should be exciting stage one testing and having dropped a lot of enderman i've discovered that this is the perfect height for which endermen die on drip stone this pillar is 23 blocks tall which means that we can build this farm incredibly low in the end which for those who don't know is incredibly important for creating an efficient farm for example this design here by nem bomb is ridiculously fast despite having a tiny spawning platform because it's constructed on y equals zero however having spent a few hours working on this thing there is a problem there is there is a problem that i'm not entirely sure how i'm going to fix it seems that occasionally when mobs land on these drip stone they don't actually get affected by the drip stone which means that it's not reliable at killing them and this doesn't just go for the small drip stone blocks it also goes for the larger double height drip stone blocks which i thought would fix it because i thought maybe they were falling in the gaps between them but they're not they're not i i don't know what to do about this i have some good news i've managed to come up with a solution that has a 100 kill rate and that is to put them down one by one chambers there's a one by one hole leading to one piece of drip stone and that is 100 kill rate but the new problem is what you can see behind me the clogging up around the dropping areas that's that's really hurting the efficiency there however i do have a plan and that is this this is my plan i realize because i'm not killing the enderman they don't actually have to fall in one spot like you have to do with regular end of an xp farms i can actually make multiple killing areas which makes this thing considerably more efficient as you can see now we don't have that situation where endermen get backed up they see the endermite and then they immediately run to the center and immediately walk down to their deck and this thing is really quite efficient i would say it has been running for maybe two three minutes and we already have essentially a full double chest of enderpearls which is very good news because between designing this and the mining session i did it's taking me all day so i would have been very upset if it hadn't worked so now let's hop back onto the hermitcraft server and i have been confronted with this chest fantastic and it's about now that my nihilism kicks in and after last night's incredibly unsuccessful ghost farming session it's kicked in doubly but now that i've accidentally caught this bee in my boat so all of those feelings have gone away anyway currently i'm just gathering up resources so that we can actually get this thing fully constructed and this should hopefully do the trick in terms of actual functionality this farm is really really simple it just relies on a big old platform and also has to be at y equals zero and far away from anywhere else that enderman can spawn so i'm going from the current enderman farm and i'm going to go 128 blocks in this direction and yes you best believe that i'm absolutely terrified at this point in time well it turns out i've been a complete i forgot that of course endermen can't spawn on half slabs but they actually can teleport onto them which makes this bridge kind of pointless these three ender pearls are starting to look real tempting the only thing that they can't teleport onto is double carpets which thankfully because we have the new moss blocks shouldn't actually be too difficult to get but with that being said we did need a whole ton of them but hopefully that's enough it was not but now it is okay perfect let's actually construct this thing let the time lapse commence do [Music] and the farm is now completed and honestly i'm not entirely sure that i made it loud enough i mean this this i mean it definitely feels like this goes against the peace love of plants thing this definitely feels like the most death that i could possibly create this is a it's a lot of death it's an it's an awful lot of death i mean we are already overflowing whether the pearls i don't even think you can hear me right now i cut it myself please love the plants baby the statistics are the only things that matter this farm has been enormously successful though like this is this is seriously cool i'm very happy with what we've created this is going to be more than perfect for what i need but now it's time to move on to the next farming project yeah that's right i'm building a second farm in this hermitcraft episode but first it's time to settle the peace treaty [Laughter] that's the first thing that i heard i said wait potato [Music] how are you boy uh well i'm just i'm i'm kind of i'm i'm waiting for you because i i need you to sign the peace treaty the tree the tree the tree is the war over yeah yes i mean these fire it kind of has to be doesn't it there's nothing that i can do that really competes with what we have going on here and frankly there was no way i was going to remove it i don't know if you've seen i i've turned it into my base so it's now my best it's beautiful i love what you've done with it in fact i think this has worked out brilliantly yeah i mean you know who would have thought that i would you know this whole tree wall would have started and then ended with me getting a free base out of it i think actually even though technically on paper you you've kind of won because you played the last move i feel like i feel like you've won yes i i've constructed this little this little peace treaty room the treaty it's somewhere around here i mean there's all sorts of like various different access points and things that are going on down here but yeah this is the room there's nothing special but i've designed it so that we have to both because we are the only people involved in this wall right okay we both have to hit buttons on either side actually gain access to the treaty so you ready yeah three any one of them uh yeah either one either one that was just for symmetry three two one cool okay beautiful yeah beautiful some nice redstone engineering there and this is the peace treaty i've already done my signature treaty it's just a bunch of squiggles you've got a fantasy one yeah yeah i mean it's like you know it's a squiggle but it's also kind of in the shape of my mustache what does the k stand for oh that's my middle name kubo it's it's not it's not kubo it's well given current circumstances of the season it's it is it is slightly embarrassing it's uh yeah mumbo kills a lot jumbo that is that's the nickname that your parents gave you straight away they knew they knew they saw his face i need to go and i need to get myself a fancy squiggle like that yeah yeah you can't just write you can't just write korean yeah i can't just write green okay hold on i'm excited i i'm i'm this is the new wall there we go the ridiculous signature war just just to clarify what happens if this book goes missing it's destroyed i don't know stop i don't know i i don't know what happens if peace what happens to p street like have you have you been transported from the egyptian era it's hieroglyphics it looks like graham yeah i was going to say agreeable i'm well this is this is excellent use so are we is this this is now locked in i guess i'll hit the button the peace treaty has been sealed in the chamber um let's let's hope and pray that no one disturbs it yeah at any point i never got to use my monstrosity pun oh what was it oh here's the magic of editing and and we're back rolling okay and there's been no cuts and go this is we're going to splice this in you know this is in the middle has been a monstrosity no wait i didn't even do it right once just a tree i think it's safe to consider that one settled now we get back to farming and the next farm that i really want to construct is a blaze farm so we need to take blaze from a mob spawner and we need to kill them without us killing them now that could prove to be a little bit challenging because of course we can't use lava we can't use fire we can't use anything that's going to cause fire damage and also blaze don't take full damage so all of these things they they definitely make life tricky for us but that's not to say that it's impossible i have a few ideas and a few theories as to how we can make this thing work so hopefully hopefully they don't actually function oh these magma cubes are a nightmare just let me get by good good good there were four more around the corner so let's design this farm in creative mode except after doing a bunch of testing using various different passive killing methods such as suffocation and entitygramming i remembered something very important about blazes how could i have forgotten this ablaze will not drop anything unless it's killed by a player it needs to be killed by a player and that is that's a huge problem for me a player who can't kill anything that is a that's a big problem but after doing a lot of thinking there is a potential solution in the form of wolves i did a google and it turns out that wolves counters player kills wolf kills counters player kills but then they don't get added to the statistics as a player kill so this wolf here it can kill a blaze and it will count as a kill from me i'll get the xp and also i will get the drop from the blaze but that kill won't be added to my statistics which is perfect that is like the absolute ideal scenario except the only issue is this is really difficult to build and i'm not sure if i can actually make this thing work which is frustrating so i'm going to have to rub my two brain cells together incredibly hard here it is now the next day and i've been working incredibly incredibly hard on this one but i do feel like i'm making progress now currently i don't have the actual blaze spawning chamber set up you can see i've got this command block which just automatically teleports any blaze that spawned from the spawner down into this area here which i personally think is actually quite smart so what we have is we have a crusher this is a crusher this takes all of the blaze down to one heart and then the blaze drop down into this area here and i'll be stood here holding a shield and they'll try and attack me and as soon as that happens the wolf will try and attack them now as far as i can tell the blaze are not aggressive towards the wolf until they're aggressive towards me and then the wolf attacks them and that makes them aggressive towards the wolf but the cool thing is because they're down to one heart when the wolf attacks them they die immediately so they don't have a chance to get aggressive towards the wolf which means in theory the wolf should be safe now this is all in theory because i haven't actually tested this thing yet in survival mode but i guess we're about to find out what exactly happens here so i'm going to hold down the right click button my shield is activated it's enchanted with unbreaking three and also mending and this is very good news this actually seems like it could work so you can hear the blaze are currently being crushed in the crusher and as long as it doesn't start overflowing then i think we might actually be okay and my blaze is staying oh okay that's a problem that i hadn't thought of but it doesn't seem to be an issue we might genuinely be onto something here we might genuinely build something it's keeping up i actually feel like this could work this is pretty epic so let's go straight to work and build it oh one thing that i have done is i've signed up to tag this i think i think this one was my diamond block i don't know i did it i did it a few nights ago really late at night i just saw this they went inside and chucked in my diamond block so i'm ready to go what are you doing why are there so many bees all over the place by the way like there seems to be bees everywhere those would be in my boat no there's a bee here i have a feeling i know who is responsible for this one sorry got a little bit distracted there blaze farm and after working on this thing in creative mode for a few hours more doing the transportation chambers making sure that the light level of the blaze spawner isn't too high so they stop spawning but also making sure that our blaze spawner is actually within range of where the player is going to be standing because of course otherwise the blaze won't spawn which involved redesigning a decent amount of the redstone i have discovered a bit of an issue with it quite uh an issue and that is after about an hour's worth of just constant testing a wolf died and i'm not entirely sure how it came about i don't know what happened i don't really understand it for the wolf is dead so i've got a little bit more testing to do because i would like to iron out that problem maybe it's just something i stay on top of with feeding the wolf or potentially giving potions of healing but either way we need to do a lot more testing however i would say that all of this all of this stuff up the top here is 100 locked in i'm not going to be changing that so we can get that constructed on the hermitcraft server this has taken me far longer than i care to admit replant replant replant replant replant replant and now having crafted more signs than i think i've ever had to craft these should be all of the resources that i need to build up our little blaze farm so we've got all of the glass we've got all of the blocks redstone bits and pieces the lava to move the blaze around and importantly the oak fence gates that will allow them to drop into the center i don't know why i emphasize the oak fence gates they're not really that important in the grand scheme of things but still they you know they are needed and i think it goes without saying if i die with all of this stuff on me then i'm going to eat myself out the window or as an intellectual would say defenestrate myself so first plan of action is to deactivate the blaze spawner which actually hopefully shouldn't be too bad i'm on fire i'm i'm i'm on fire at this point in time but i'm just going to ignore it i'm going to choose to ignore it and just keep doing my thing okay that hasn't been successful that has not been successful oh i don't know what to do i don't know what to do i i chose to be the brave man and run away and hide in this little area here i apologize to all members of the no wing club but there we go my score has been reset there is no way i'm building this thing without my elytra which by the way i just repaired by breaking a communal furnace it's it's the perfect way to get xp and i will be using that later on so after a number of battles and near-death experiences i think this should be our entire blaze spawner blocked off so no blaze should be able to spawn from this thing at this point in time of course that doesn't stop me being absolutely nailed by anything else that spawns elsewhere but it definitely makes life a little bit easier now i just need to build up the platform which they're going to be falling down onto which should be all pretty much completed okay now it's time for all of the glass to go in place and this is definitely going to be interesting if i just keep my head down and keep placing glass nothing can hurt me because what i can't see cannot hurt me those are the best rules to live by and amazingly it did actually work and the glass cube has now been constructed next up on the very dangerous to-do list is to build up the area for the redstone now i plan on making this completely gas proof i'm going to make it solid so that hopefully we shouldn't have any trouble there now in terms of design for this little gas proof box we're going to go for deep slate and nether brick partly because i think will look really cool but also partly because i seem to be running out of deep slate and you can probably see why if you're ever feeling low just remember i've somehow managed to make minecraft my job despite being utterly useless at it that means that you can do anything that you want in life not gonna lie this place is starting to look incredibly incredibly cool i absolutely love i love these new block textures they just work so well they're so versatile it looks equally cool from the outside these things are so brutal they cause so much damage it does look cool from the outside though look at that serious business go away oh dear it appears my spud is exposed anyway redstone time now and to be fair there isn't really too much to it in the top half of this blaze farm all we need to do is hook up these pistons right here to a redstone clock now that mainly consists of redstone running into target blocks but this piston here which is going to be above the majority of the circuitry unfortunately there's not enough space for it so instead we have to do a bit of an observer up which sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is and what's rather hilarious and also slightly depressing is that if you were building a regular blaze farm this would really be everything that you would need you just drop the blaze down to this block here and then you could kill them with a swooping edge sword but this is no regular blaze farm why did i build a really loud thing before i was finished why would i do that if you're wondering what i'm up to now i'm placing in the signs that will stop the lava flooding everything and the lava is to switch off the blaze farm so it's not constantly running and switching off this will also switch off this i promise now for my plan of action on how i'm actually going to activate this thing and i'm i'm i was hoping that wouldn't happen that is what that's what i was hoping wouldn't happen what that was that was bad that is really bad oh no that happened so fast ah i wasn't prepared i wasn't prepared do i have any ender pearls i really hope i have some ender pearls oh gosh and man those magma cubes they are lethal when you don't have much armor they are lethal okay please please tell me it didn't explode out the top okay i can i can kind of live with this i can kind of live with this i can kind of live with this oh i can't live with this oh i can't live i can't live with that i'm just gonna close him in i need that stuff oh this is a big issue maybe oh this is genius if i just do a bit of that action okay that works this works this this is okay this is not awful but it's bad that's even worse ah i watched i watched some diamond stuff uh fall into the lava there ah gosh well i heard some fireworks so it sounds like somebody came to help me out great i just got killed by magma cube as well this is not good hello you're in a bit spot of bother uh yeah big time big time big time big time that's not good you're not not having fun what are you trying to do at the moment i'm trying i'm trying to build a blaze farm but it's kind of difficult when you can't kill things like these magma cubes are just real i gotcha that's a real problem oh gosh i don't know how you're doing this to be honest oh they they're your pearls all right yeah that was i didn't get so i didn't get so far on that day oh no your stuff is gonna be spawn i imagine where are you building this thing uh it's it's really not far away this is the problem i think we're loading it oh we're going the wrong way don't worry no i can't worry about it i need to go this way i also think some of my stuff dropped in lava i'm almost oh no well we can always help you with some armor i think we got some villains that's the wrong way oh you don't i i i'm something tells me you're probably not going to get your stuff back at this point no you might be right i'm almost certain i i don't i i could have sworn i saw someone fly past oh it's down down here okay yep is this kind of where you did uh i think it was oh oh i'm on fire i'm on fire well it's somewhere down there i fell from here because i end up hurled up here but then fell right ah hold on let me tell i'll hit boxes let's see if i can find anything i'm not sure oh wait i think oh that pikmin's wearing my stuff there's xp over there as well that pikmin's wearing my stuff i mean there's everything else is despawned oh no oh no at least he's got your elijah right oh i'll make sure yeah everything else is if you need some like items i can i can give you some stuff uh the thing is though it's a bit hard yeah that's that's gonna be a real problem um can you like sit in a hall real quick all right i'm gonna give him a nice whack okay i have your elytra and i've got your pants nice i i mean i've lost as much as we got wow that is yeah take some rockets as well look if you need some help with getting some things recovered i can give you some stuff no no i i'm all good i'm okay this is my own doing i'm i'm the one who's trying to build stupid farms without being able to kill anything that's a it's a real issue oh the fact that you're doing it at all is very admirable will get this blaze farm up to the point that i wanted to get the blaze farm to despite losing all of my stuff okay lava bucket in there good good all right and then boom okay we might now actually be able to work with this oh my word this feels wrong this definitely feels like this is an accident waiting to happen my goodness i can't even see what i'm mining this doesn't look safe it is quite unsafe it's arguably the most unsafe yeah yeah no wonder you died here so i've got a gift oh nice there you go friend of your ex it's all shiny freshly enchanted wow this is like this is way better than any axe that i've had this is i've received an upgrade yeah i had a feeling it would be this is this is wicked enjoy the potato peeler right with help from my very fancy new axe we've managed to get through it and i've managed to not die in the process which honestly is quite remarkable and now all of the open fence gates are all in place which means we can stop putting our lava pushers in this could be more challenging than i was expecting right one lava okay oh gosh this feels precarious two lava fantastic that is the third piece of lava there and then the final and i should never have to come up here again so that there is our very temporary blaze catcher if someone actually wanted to use this as a regular blaze farm then they totally can but soon it's all going to be swapped out for our ridiculous wolf killer i felt like this thing could probably do with the gas proof roof so i'm just quickly working on that but now that that's all in place i think it's time that we actually try switching this thing on so that button there should remove all of the lava and then we should begin to see some blades starting to spawn there we go so that blaze has just popped up and then he will gradually be pushed by the lava he will end up in the piston pusher and he will end up in that one by one area down there perfect okay this thing is fully functional that netherrack and that piece of cobblestone is going to be there forever and it's going to annoy me but that is fine i am absolutely okay with that because against all odds we have actually managed to create a functional blaze farm which is totally totally ridiculous this is so silly all right that piece of netherrack was annoying me let's let's sort that out there we go look at that professional minecrafter i also removed the fence post as well because that was affecting efficiency amazing absolutely amazing all right i hope that you've enjoyed this slightly hectic very technical and very very stressful episode on the hermitcraft server it's been a ton of fun and i will catch you in the next one see ya yes i am removing this block there we go it is gone right goodbye and i totally
