Hannah's Car Left Her Stranded! Malibu Crank, No Start

their viewers and welcome back to the self-made auto channel so we got a important repair today miss Hannah's car Carosa out in Malibu left her hoof in it so she's been plagued with this intermittent crank nose started to happen how many times hey three times and each time it's dumbest she's been a long ways away so the first time ended tourism Buffalo and so I talked to around the phone and long story short the fuel pump was running something and while GM it's going to need a fuel pump she got under bash on the fuel tank couldn't get it running whatever in a desperate measure removed the fuel pump relay for whatever reason and put the fuel pump relay back in and a car started which I assumed at that point is coincidence and I have you know no reason not to believe that because simply removing it and putting it back in unless there's a pin fitment issue doesn't do anything so she bought a new relay a bwd Brooklyn delivered and you know put that in the car had been running you know about a week or two week yeah went about a week did it again pull the real help pop it back in both car starts and the third time the door was yesterday a third time third time [Music] okay so third time it did it pulls really out puts it back in and starts right off so I told her when it happens call me and finally it did it in a convenient spot and cuz I went back there you know obviously I checked it for and you know the tin fitments good on a relay it really works it's not overheating there's not too much an force draw everything seems fine so I suspect I'm like well when you do this something's happened then something's wiggling you know you're doing something besides pulling related out unfortunately a quit yesterday so after work I took a peek out of four and didn't have camera with me so I'm just going to show you guys what I did I'm gonna show you what's wrong with it and we're going to fix it here so in case you have a Malibu it's a symbol from Malibu you can fix it in perhaps maybe this is just an isolated case but ma'am get going so I'll give you guys a rundown you ready for anything aren't you okay well there it is so the fuse box on these mountains hides back here pull the lid off it and this is the fuel pump relay that she would take out and put back in now you see this is the OEM relay and it's obviously that's good pin fitment because you can see the drag marks on the male side of the pins stick that back in so what I did yesterday got there verified that it was not a security issue you know which he already knew no security light on the car was a start stall is that because they had a little bit of pressure in rail so I took the relay out I put a relay test jumper in there made sure that we had the control side and the load side which we did the relay would turn on it had power coming out for five minutes or five seconds you know then to shove a cop so that's good let's all the control side is good the load side is good it's putting power out and now we just need to make sure that powers making it to the pump and being that we didn't have a lift I'll show you where I was under the car so conveniently GM has actually put the fuel pump harness or fuel tank harness I think there's more than just the pump on your pressure sensor and fuel level sensors stuff like that maybe can extra vent ah this was you know hanging here a little bit nicer than what it is right now so I grabbed the gray wire which is going to be our load side of our fuel pump took some Pierce lighting set so I got some liquid electoral tape on it I put on there last night Pierce that and check for power down here knowing that I had a fuse box and I had nothing here so we knew that if either you know bad connection here because this was the tank side so I just took and simply unplugged it and then went on the I think was the third terminal and yeah third terminal in and check to hear at this connector to eliminate you know poor connector and still had no power so at that point I used some logical deduction or as I like to call common sense and I knew that this Hannah would pulled relay in and out and you know that's when the problem happen so I said let's look at the back of the fuse box first you know make sure the termination there is good before we go you know chasing a broken wire whether it be under the backseat or wherever and I'll show you guys when I'm going to take and clean this up now because we got lift you've got to read tape it and then we're going to take and read zip tie it back up to this part and rake cable if now if you are an owner of a Malibu I do believe there is a service Bolton on these they will rub through on this parking brake cable and you can see this one's got you know watch some pretty heavy tape on it I find that I just take them out of their factory holder click them together and then I just wired time up to this parking brake cable I'm not sure what the service Bolton entails but I'm pretty certain they have one out on these so that's how I fix those like I just put a couple of zip ties on there you know this does this part my cable didn't have that much movement but at least when the cable moves you know the the wires will move with it and anytime I've ever seen these brake it's always right back here at this Junction people like that so yesterday I took and just pulled the road back a little bit here let me just take this one out for the purpose of video mm-hmm no beard okay all right so we pulled that down exposing the suspect fuse box scoot you guys around juice box back and discovered somebody back here with the silicone unfortunately I don't know why they did that so the purple wire left on diagram that is the feed wire for the rear window defogger but the way we're after I'm going to show ya so as soon as I pull this down I had my test light back here hook the ground looked at our diagram of course we took diagrams with us and I you know knew this you know I think it's seen one I think it is no see 10 something like that I think it's see 10 pin 10 year anyways it is a feed wire that goes to the fuel pump soon as I touch it with my Tesla to lit up but then I add Hana crank it and immediately started but you can see I think there's going to be real kind some reading on this terminal because it looks a little toasty so it's that terminal right there and you can see the discoloration in that gray wire I think this is very similar to the Buick we just did where you get some pin fitment issues so getting pins iment issues then you circuit heat you can actually grab this of course I can okay we can everybody can see here we go so you can move that wire up and down on the pin and I don't know I don't know anymore than what I did right here so with that being said I'll show you what I think our fix is going to be because I'm the best boss ever right yeah see totally agrees I went to the junkyard today and got hand on one of these other guys and what I did those terminals we're looking at we're right here this empty hole in this empty ol here I just took it apart and deep in them so you can buy these weather patterns I don't remember the GM number on them but the fact is I don't have that crimping tool and I probably can't do that good of a crimp anyways even if I have the tool and these terminals are on buck or some apiece and this baby and cost with nothing so what I want to do is we're going to hook that round look at it hopefully it didn't ruin the box if it did we've got one if not we're going to slide a couple pins in it call it a day all right enough jibber-jabber we should have just done a video on the nose start my hand was crying freaking out she was everything alright here we are it opened up what's our pin look like which one's it going to be third one down weather is a tiny bit of melting around it and it goes into a printed circuit board I don't know if that's a printed circuit board but in itself looks good there's a little bit of melting of the plastic around it which I guess is to be expected because of the way this is I tell you what get do I got it is there a needle on my card is there a pocket screwdriver right need one of them no man there's some melting of this connector oh yeah so that terminal of that pin the actual female pin here looks it looks good it doesn't look like it would happening let me see the needle as a pin drag on it feels pretty darn good hmm oh man but it's gotten hot enough it's actually melted the lock pin away that holds the terminal inside the housing here that it's not a c10 that is a 8:10 well folks would that be incest what we need to do which kind of sucks is we need we actually need to change out this hole we need to change out this hole connector and the purple the purple wire there has also done the same thing that is also melted right into the housing make sure I'm looking a great one here oh no I'm not big dummy so the purple thing look at that like an idiot so the rear window defogger is the one that melted the one for the fuel pump relay okay so jeez sitting here like a fool I'm going to edit all that crap ha all right so the one for the rear window defogger which is this one here the purple wire so that is melted that's that's melting the connector the pin fitment on that one is good that's why I'm kind of a little peculiar here so the one right here move my light out of your way one right here for the fuel pump you can obviously see I don't know if you guys will be able to see it or not it's going to have that's kind of pimp it may see how easy this pin goes in there's there's no resistance there it's a little metal tang that holds it tight against the fuse box is is loose compared to like this one I'm not going to push it inks I don't this has been you know the wrong size but it's obvious that you know there's pin segments there so [Applause] realistically which probably should still changes out because your rear window defogger one is melted which not a huge deal we'll get her swapped out in her back on their own I'm just wondering if we should change the fuse box also because that is slightly melted on that pin you know I don't know let me think about it alright so I took and stripped down our connector off the fuse box because I want to make sure I didn't break the good one before let's take a pic that one apart so before we take this apart because we have multiple wires that are the same color groups alike you know double brown double brown I'm just going to take a sharpie and draw a little black lines on these because we're going to take some cell phone pictures before we pop it apart in case something stupid happens and same thing down here we've got three clusters of Gray's so I'll just leave one plain gray and then we'll sharp you some black with the bottom on these two and then we'll pick some up here or sharp you them up a little bit higher you probably see no piece of tape some I don't suspect we're gonna have any issues because we're just going to do one at a time anyways but you never know number things have happened in my shop you mix up that one wire so there so hopefully that makes sense everybody like I say you know now we could take a picture now we can identify you know wait a min you know the ones with the Sharpie marks are up here and you know share marks down here whatnot and whathave you the only ones we won't be pulling out are the two that are junk and I'm still debating on whether or not to just swap the whole box the new box is good but I did not get it out of the same year I got it out of an old five so that being said let's just have a gander this before we get all pumped up if I know it's not the same let's see it appears to be the same probably as a weather pack connected right on our part number right on us which I don't know now that's smart but we'll just look at it so it's same to you looks the same to me so we'll call it good it looks good all right we're going to take some pictures we're going to get sir how much I ought to do a couple of them but I'm not going to make you sit through this whole process but it's kind of like watching grass grow so that's pretty simple we're just going to pull the pull the lock tab out of it now theoretically we probably should disconnect the battery but it didn't but we should if you're doing this at home you should and I have a suspicion on this so because I've never seen this before on these Malibu's what I suspect is perhaps a problem with the rear window defogger somebody came back here they found the pin was bad they unconnected this somehow ended up with some pin fitment problem on the fuel pump when they put it back together boom Hana's walking that's what I'm thinking yeah see because this lock is broke that's why they put silicone on that that's part of this one comb I don't know if it's this one no it's this one here is broke and suntan guns you got chipped off you bought this car totally jimta tricky car sales many price new rod so what I want to do is I'm a marked the top left corner of this box with white paint marker and then we're going to mark this one white paint marker that way in a quick reference I can have a gander at it see I just had it upside down would it totally screwed up that would have pissed me off because they look almost identical this way here is it a quick look I can be like my right side up oh yeah course attic so now and it's going to watch me do this so I don't screw any of them up and we're going to start with the top row and work our way over and like I say if you're doing this at home definitely unhook your battery we're going to come in we're going to hit the little release tab with our special service tool third one in we just take our new one push it up she clicks and then repeat the process this is the fourth one in top row is the release pull it out makes that little so click it in just like that then second row down last one Old Yeller I go there she is put the needle in your mouth try not to swallow it click it in so that's what I'm going to do and I'm going to continue to do this until every wire is gone and in its proper place and then we'll put the locks back in that course wolf will replace the broken one and it will kick the camera back on because you guys don't want to sit here and watch me do this whole stinking thing of course you did watch it two and a half hour video of me soldering wires which really makes me concern for you folks so this is third row down sick of them in to your car doesn't run it's all funny to your car doesn't run then we're looking at a diagram so if I did screw this I'm people I asked you know what if it did screw up of course we took pictures with the cell phone but the other thing we could do is we have a connector pinout diagram that we could get but I'd rather not mess it up so anyhow to be to be continued let's roll so we're about halfway well it took a few minutes being that we are halfway and we have the ability to put the lock back in I'm going to put it back in that way there you know everything locks in good but you never know just in case or doesn't come out on us so now we will carry on where's our purple in our grey way and I've already popped out of this black just going to put those in as a reminder to myself to not pull them out of the other box let's click that one in click that one in move carrion lock degree give me the other give me that blue comesit a guy that good thing I had ripped them out like a caveman go through the same so I decide everything they are looking at at some engineering or their GM actually use the same lock just flip them upside name that's really good so they can stick this in I guess it's a little way they don't really these don't really lock I guess I kind of do okay only on that one that little middle pin between the two that's the only little Locker is so there our harness is complete - these two wires a little bit [Music] that back way you know what we got like 50 sewing seam rippers now I'm sure the people would love some use a sewing a seam ripper they always complain when I use my knife they don't really complain they just come in use sewing machine reversed and a bunch of viewers that sent me that and yet I did not just use it not being disrespectful it's just my knife is in my pocket at all times this will close the duct tape back up let's see you have some chompers there Emily let's not twist these put we're nuts on them no you don't Hannah you don't don't shake it yes that's what that's what contractors do that's like myself you work on contractors trucks big yellow wire nuts under the dash and like a 120 household switch screwed to it with some drywall screws nothing against contractors fantastic people I actually envy their skills but household wearing does not transfer to automotive wiring in that respect you got some strippers the one named ginger oh no those ones computer sent me Z no idea what brand they're I love them I used to hate automatic strippers cuz I got these ones and now I love them I love strippers that's probably bad you can take that out of context Hannah mmhmm yeah best part about these strippers they don't cost you a dollar and you don't go home with glitter on you oh crap you know what do we have any more heat shrinkage that we use it all the other day biscuit because I just checked because we ordered some from cable organizer but it won't be here till Friday rut row I know we got some larger stuff for this that connection and what look I might have a secret stash for you found some in my secret stash so we're going to weigh together the fuel pump wires here see if I can get them on my big meat nugget fingers here terrible this kind of stuff did I bring my little I need to stick these on here just this is steadier for me when I do get it it's good obviously sometimes it don't when I get it right it'll be right it's kind of like John men Steve I'm actually like bobble the clown trying to do this one Thunder is going on here come on there told you once I got it it would be used so there's that now we're going to be using our Weller not from the other day from doing the Saturn we're in a solder like 300 I noticed at the end of this thing is getting like super filthy I don't know let me just wipe it off with a wet sponge or I've never really used solder and we always use a little mini torch tin it now because it's what people want YouTube do all right I do not inhale so four people said they're really friggin are video early remember that they're saying they were very concerned for my safety I've got a lot of bad stuff my day you know as you know I'm pretty sure it's the lead smoke the soldering gun takes now well that that's beautiful fire one guy says you told me to comedy private message me I may seem sick we gave them I'm always a gut pains or something watching me try to solder yep that's right though me so you know what I did you know I did have nope I gave them all his money back for watching my video are we funding them every bit of what a couple hundred bucks a little bit of Labor you know replacing the entire interior harness on an old piece of crap Saturn sure I'm sure the customer - signed right up for that would be $5000 ma'am some people are pretty unrealistic most of our viewers are pretty awesome now I'll be honest with you look at that I got that one please go ahead positive let's hope we always have your positive just like the happy place dude bigger wires take a little while to heat up yeah buddies down the bottom underwear pull the solder down to it come on cider needs a little bigger tip there she goes uh curator who gets smoking here is like an old clambake back in the day there we go we're good okay let's flip that up and over well there it is fancy fancy so that's power probe mini torch lot of people ask me about this so I have a power probe mini torch kit which I've had for many many moons and poner probe apparently watches my videos and they recognize that I never used it for you know this adapter for the heat shrink I just use the torch I have this adapter I just never used it because you got to get it out and put it on and this and that and that's why I told the guy so he sent me a whole porch with that adapter on it so I was pretty pretty nice of them he said I don't even have to promote their products which is really good because I don't I mean I like Paulo probe not saying that I I don't promote their products I'm just saying I don't I don't promote products like I'm a channel like commercial stuff you know could you guys get really nasty if you do that this is bad right now because that one is a pretty thick solder joint I don't want any little pricklies coming out short ow fuel pump turns on rear window starts to fog it of course somebody in the comments are going to see why didn't you offset your solder joint well dude I didn't put it on the backside of the harness and they can ever know cause no problems so they're good Turkey I don't know if that's what the people really sounds like Hannah I don't how come you don't have a half roll tape monkey now I can't really get it through there I usually get it roll down to about half and then we open a new roll now get one down there really tiny and then get a new roll so we got multiple size tape rolls kicking our on that's more variable than a half used April it's got 33 of course on that jet breath cheap crap I've actually been in situations before where I've unraveled a half or all just because needed it well I think we did a pretty dang good job in assuming the car runs which is still an assumption at this point we're taping it up like it's going off that's usually when you get burned basically like fact if you take this to a car show people attend at Las Vegas Factory why I take this to a car show I don't know why do people take their place Dodge Chargers and Chevy Camaro their car shows just stupid that takes a canalis exactly you going down to win Chevy Malibu class let's see that look guys can go in there not like that but like that I want to know if should we change the box she's got the tiniest little melt mark there Oh debate in the other box isn't burnt but I don't know if it's exact interchange it's got the part number echo and Mexico I think this it like that go right isn't exile I don't know if those are part numbers or some kind of production number cuz they're different where colors is that creasing she chose to use our it's a little different than the inside well after giving it some careful consideration but I'm not going to swap it really configure each and stuff different on the inside I don't want no beef not want to chase in this car all the way across the country so the terminal is nice and tight I think it just has a little bit of exterior melted on the outside from you know the pin fitment the arcing whatnot what have you that's my theory it is just a theory though where's the nut driver in my pocket don't the tucked around what someday wrong and be old and that's just a matter of fact but even if something accessory quit you know he doesn't even know where the fuse box is little I'm going to pop the back seat out and like check his old fuse now tell me you money which I completely understand if I had a shop I want these bikes backs on one of them sweet Jesus and so wouldn't some of you but in some cases you know customers they don't wander parts back what if they do I gave them back to all right and I know that I said pretty much come a cleaner here with lye uh-huh I lied it I told the people that your fuel pump was fine it's not wrong too much amperage and all that but basically as a big fat lie cuz I never really checked it I just don't relay and use my my mystical feelings assuming is not to get let's really get hot but because we just went through the painstaking effort of replacing all that business sugar sugar we can't fit in here that really what's that really number 26 number 26 window defogger selfie that crap so we're going to check Sanford's y'all on a fuel pump right now to make sure we're not having any current issues come on Hannah that was like the funniest pun I've ever done get it current issues oh not even a tither Uniting down I got nothing Hannah nothing funny joke - is like a mechanic joke alright hop up in the car there hand lady we're going to get our scope set up because we're going to see make sure fuel pump is good I'm expecting maybe like six and a half's and maybe eight and a half amps ish under my new in here my aunt plans done Brett did skewed like a tenth of an amp so that kind of sucks trying to get new ones had this baby long time fired up there Emily wrong way guaranteed every time [Applause] negative there she is so we're going to be making sure that our fuel pump 90 liter water changer time across the screen here about 20 milliseconds maybe so that is the fuel pump waveform and it's about I don't know maybe seven and a half amps along those lines you'll puff looks good in that respect no open segments or drop-off big glitches let's pop back in here and just look at that with a digital meter you were at oops wrong scale oops wrong button [Applause] 7.37 amps can shut off for a fumigator there it is folks I'm happy with that that seems to be about average the fuel pump obviously did not cause our bolts oh yeah right now it's zero now if I put on a lower scale home it's going on like a tune and scale yeah I know inside for new one for a desert using the Pico oops put in screen by it darn it all but a lot of times I'll say I just grabbed those tools handy self little self-contained unit so that's that we're good we're happy and then as far as the rear defogger drawing too much current well those are big big energy suckers as it is so you get a little pin tip and problem on those little guys and then I'll take no time for them to go to nucular back cover back on we're done ski where's my needle all right found it good I just want to pull out the fuel pump terminal yeah well what do that like yes yes uh now we can see the route besides terminal fitting here and see if we can get this little guy to focus for a while I don't know how to do this I'm terrible at this camera so maybe you guys can see that we see how fingernails dirty see how it's kind of green and crusty like she's been hot so sue a little overheated there plus the pin fitment you can see all its kind of you can see right straight through that you shouldn't build a few straight through that you shouldn't be able to see past that tang you get it pick now when I'm picking up what I'm putting down I guess will be there anyway maybe now we can get extreme close-up that poor boy pulled right out freakin hacks who does this kind of crap very serious if you want a shop to do that shame on you you know I can come on poke him boom that is see if we can push this one out nope she's friggin melted can't really show you too good on that got some ding dong put freakin silicone all over it well I wanted to show you folks it's really good no not going to happen however we'll have a look so not the terminal you may not be able to see that knot or the terminal is but the next one down there's actually a plastic blob melted down from that terminal from being overhead overheated so no probably really piss poor representation that's kind of fun anyhow that's it we did what we had to do there was a lot of smoke in that one so you can see perhaps I can't see crap because the flight to my's but you can see where that terminals burned down that was rear defogger nothing that we're really concerned about but pretty sweet sticker there mm-hmm put it on there when she wasn't looking you scraped it off your last car had an accident accident grace in the is short you look at the card on jaca 34-foot Tommy blip the car if you looking Jory pretty close so anyhow guys that's it that's it and a little hot rod here a little more involved than I thought I thought we were going to be doing just one terminal not the whole block slush so that's what it is not too big a deal it's got to swap it around don't mix up the connectors I would have liked to obstruct this fuse box in there but it doesn't look like an exact match and they get pretty specific year to year so I don't want to take a chance and end up being here all night trying to get this toilet working again so we'll leave it at that I don't suspect that there's going to be any issues I think the little melting was from the heat that's always makes
